'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' is the critically and commercially acclaimed solo album by female Fugee Lauryn Hill. Originally released on August 25th , 1998, it has been widely praised for its seamless fusion of R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Gospel, and Neo-Soul. The songs vary in style, but make for a cohesive album. In 1999, the album garnered 10 Grammy nominations at the 41st Grammy Awards. When Hill won 5 Grammies that night, her achievement made her the first female to receive that many in one night. The album includes collaborations with soul singer D'Angelo on "Nothing Even Matters"; guitarist Carlos Santana on "To Zion"; singer Mary J. Blige on "I Used to Love Him" and well as then little-known John Legend playing the piano on "Everything is Everything".

The CCR Box Set -- Absolute Originals (45 RPM)
Creedence Clearwater Revival
$199.99
Vinyl LP 45 RPM - 8 LPs Sealed
|
"This set of eight 45rpm LPs might be the most luxurious item I own, but it's a slice of nirvana…The sound is unbelievable, and the quality and packaging are just as wonderful." Stereophile Records To Die For – Brian Damkroger, Stereophile, February 2008
Think these classic CCR songs sounded better than ever on Analogue Productions' recent LP reissues? Well, you're right of course.
Or at least you WERE right. Now they sound even better. That's because we've cut the choicest tracks from each of these seven albums at 45 RPM. With so few songs on each side (some releases have only one song per side) and at 45 RPM, your cartridge is going to track better and ultimately SING sweeter.
With the biggest hits from each record (packaged in replicas of the original jackets), you'll get in-depth liners by rock critic extraordinare Ben Fong-Torres of Rolling Stone fame, and photos by Baron Wolman and Didi Zill, both of whom were there to document CCR "back in the day." There is also an essay by Steve Hoffman, who along with Kevin Gray, remastered these gems at AcousTech Mastering. We've also included a bonus record that includes rare mixes of "Bad Moon Rising" and "Proud Mary," cut at 45 of course.

2008 was quite a year for Vampire Weekend. After the release of their eponymous debut album in January, the New York quartet graced the cover of Spin Magazine, played on almost every television program from Saturday Night Live to David Letterman, and toured the world several times over including stops at the Coachella and Bonnaroo festivals. They regrouped in early 2009 to begin the recording of their sophomore album, Contra. Like their first, Contra was produced by keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij and is the realization of a whole and unique musical vision that sees the band stretching out and adding new textures, instrumentation, and rhythms into their sound. Primarily recorded in New York with a springtime sojourn to Mexico, Contra feels altogether fresh, joyous, and like nothing else, but is immediately recognizable as the sound of Vampire Weekend.

 Y Not
Ringo Starr
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
For the first time ever, Ringo Starr produces himself on his most personal album yet. Ringo is joined on Y Not by old and new friends including Paul McCartney, with whom Starr sings on Y Not’s stunning first single, “Walk With You,” a moving new song about the power of friendship.
Y Not is a groovy and deeply felt song cycle that finds Ringo leading a smaller core group of old and new friends including longtime pal and recent brother-in-law Joe Walsh, Dave Stewart and longtime “Roundheads” member Steve Dudas on guitar, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on keyboards, Don Was and Mike Bradford on bass. The album also features Starr’s engineer and co-producer Bruce Sugar on keyboards, as well as some special guests like Joss Stone, Ben Harper and Richard Marx on vocals, Ann Marie Calhoun on violin and Tina Sugandh (aka Tina The Tabla Girl) on tabla and chanting.
Starr’s songwriting collaborators on Y Not also include familiar and new names like Joe Walsh, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Glen Ballard, Richard Marx, Van Dyke Parks, Gary Nicholson plus Gary Wright and former Roundhead band member, Gary Burr. Yet no collaborator featured on Y Not is likely to receive as much attention as Starr’s former bandmate and longstanding mate Paul McCartney, who adds a characteristically brilliant bass part to the inspiring “Peace Dream,” Starr’s latest heartfelt plea for peace and love and even more notably provides his unmistakably fabulous vocals to “Walk With You,” an exquisite new composition by Starr and Van Dyke Parks.
Indeed, there’s a whole lot of genius on display throughout Y Not. Highpoints here include “Fill In The Blanks,” the album’s rocking opening track written, played and sung only by Starr and Walsh. Then there’s “The Other Side Of Liverpool,” a revealing autobiographical song that explores Starr’s earliest and darkest days.
Track Listing:
1. Fill In The Blanks
2. Peace Dream
3. The Other Side Of Liverpool
4. Walk With You
5. Time
6. Everyone Wins
7. Mystery Of The Night
8. Can’t Do It Wrong

 Love Scenes
Diana Krall
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
The Grammy nominated, Love Scenes features Diana Krall's mastery of the romantic ballad in an intimate piano trio setting with Russell Malone on guitar and Christian McBride on bass. Now in this magnificent sounding 180g Double Vinyl LP Set!
"When my producer, Tommy LiPuma, and I were deciding on the songs for my newest record, it never occurred to me that the songs we ultimately chose would be all about love. I selected songs that I personally liked, and that had a special meaning for me. However, as is often the case during the creative process, a connection among the songs just seemed to organically appear. The songs are indeed about romance. But to me there is a broader and more personal attachment to each of the songs than the standard definition of romantic love might imply. I think that these songs represent the strength of love, including the love of family and friends. But rather than describing my own thoughts about each song, it is my hope that all of you who listen to the music and read the lyrics will discover and imagine your own personal "love scenes" among the mountains, oceans, rain and gardens of these songs." - Diana Krall

 Lotusflower/MPLSound
Prince
$34.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Prince has never shied away from ambitious projects, and 2009's Lotusflower/Mplsound is just the latest in a long, illustrious string. The new collection builds on the variety evident throughout Prince's career, mixing up rock, funk, R&B, silky-smooth balladry, and left-field genre influences. Lotusflower takes a page from psychedelic rock, and it's a pleasure to hear Prince bring his guitar to the fore and let his Hendrix-influenced playing loom large (right down to the distortion-drenched cover of "Crimson and Clover"). Mplsound finds the icon looking back to his funk-fueled earlier work, throwing in some falsetto ballads like "U're Gonna C Me."

 Live At Reading
Nirvana
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Ranked #1 in Kerrang magazine's "100 Gigs That Shook The World" and voted as "Nirvana's #1 Greatest Moment" by fans in an NME poll, Nirvana's historic August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at the UK's Reading Festival is one of the most bootlegged concerts in the annals of rock 'n' roll. Now, fans finally can own a pristine copy of that entire performance complete with remastered audio.
While the show’s centerpiece was a performance of nearly the entire Nevermind tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn’t be released until a year later on In Utero: "All Apologies,” “Dumb,” and, in its first ever public performance, “Tourette’s." The career-spanning set list also reached back to the band’s 1989 Sub Pop debut album, Bleach, for “Blew,” “About A Girl,” “School,” “Negative Creep,” and the band's first single “Love Buzz,” and even further back for “Spank Thru.”
Other songs from the Reading set would appear in studio form on the Incesticide compilation later in the year: “Aneurysm,” “Been A Son” and “Sliver.” Additionally, the band played a pair of beloved covers by two bands that helped shape the formative Nirvana sound: “The Money Will Roll Right In” by Fang and “D-7” by The Wipers.
Track Listing:
1. Breed

 The Live Anthology
Tom Petty
$149.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 7 LPs Sealed
|
This one is a must. Decades in the making and culled from hundreds of hours of live concert recordings covering every era of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ tours, The Live Anthology spans 1978-2007 and represents the best tracks as personally chosen by producers Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, and Ryan Ulyate. The Live Anthology comes on the heels of two sold out tours, the Grammy-winning documentary Runnin’ Down A Dream (directed by Peter Bogdanovich), and a headline performance at the Super Bowl XLII halftime show. Now, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, one of rock and roll’s greatest touring bands, mark their unparalleled string of successes with the release of this landmark collection of live recordings that is unlike anything previously available. This is the band’s story told through the music alone.
The producers made no fixes or overdubs, letting the newly-mixed original recordings showcase the invention, spontaneity, craft, and the musicianship that has made Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers among the most celebrated live performers of their time. Along with powerful interpretations of their own classic hits and originals, The Live Anthology features the band tackling some of their best-loved cover material, from classics to obscure beauties to unexpected adaptations including the theme from Goldfinger, the Zombies’ “I Want You Back Again,” the Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil,” early Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well,” Booker T. and the MGs’ “Green Onions,” James Brown’s “Good, Good Lovin’” and many more. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers travel wide, paying their musical debts through song and showing just how confidently the band moves across genres and over time.
The Live Anthology features artwork and packaging by renowned contemporary artist Shepard Fairey. All 51 tracks were mastered specifically from the original live performance recordings and pressed onto 7 x 180g audiophile-quality vinyl LPs. An accompanying deluxe book with liner notes offering personal perspective on the band and their music by Tom Petty, Warren Zanes, Bill Flanagan, Robert Hilburn, Joel Selvin, Austin Scaggs, and Phil Sutcliffe rounds out this once-in-a-lifetime set.

 My Aim Is True
Elvis Costello
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Elvis Costello’s remarkable My Aim Is True announces the arrival of a singular talent. Having long ago secured its status as one of the greatest debut albums ever recorded, the 1977 set hasn’t lost any of the vibrant urgency, lyrical edge, or biting wit that made Costello the pin-up model for new-wave music.
Blending punk-fueled motivation with pub-rock, reggae, and classic American rock n’ roll strains, the landmark effort includes many of the singer’s best-known and most beloved tunes: the poisoned ballad “Alison,” voyeuristic “Watching the Detectives,” slinky “(The Angels Want to Wear My) Red Shoes,” and rave-up “Mystery Dance” included. There isn’t a bad note here.
The history behind My Aim Is True is as rich as the songs. Before landing at then-fledgling English indie label Stiff Records, Costello had been laboring as a computer operator housed next door to a lipstick factory. The conditions couldn’t be riper for the cynical blue-collar observations and fierce humor that pierce tracks like “Welcome to the Working Week” and “Less Than Zero.” Costello took inspiration from London subway rides, venomous politics, and surrounding vanity. Having been rejected by what he estimated amounted to every other label in the city, Costello began calling in sick to his day job in order to record material for what become My Aim Is True.
Made for just 1000 pounds and over the course of four six-hour sessions, the experience found Costello recording his parts in a room the size of a telephone booth. His backing band—Clover, not the Attractions (save for on “Watching the Detectives,” left off the original UK release)—rounded out the slinky, melodic songs with spare details such as fuzztone pedal steel guitar and organ. The minimal budget ensured that nothing extra or fancy was employed. Overdubs weren’t really an option; what was played is basically what you hear.
Notorious for being reissued umpteen times, Mobile Fidelity is thrilled to present the one edition of My Aim Is True that every fan needs to own. Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes—not from copies as so many other versions are—and pressed on 180-gram vinyl, this numbered limited-edition LP is the definitive My Aim Is True. No compromises, no tricks. Just the music delivered with peerless clarity, purity, and transparency. The rawness of Costello’s voice, jangle of the rhythms, hum of the organs, and even the impact of the drumsticks have never been experienced with such realism. This is what organic-sounding albums are supposed to sound like. You will hear this again for the first time. And of course, there's the iconic cover art, presented in full-scale perspective.
Track Listing:
1. "Welcome To The Working Week"
2. "Miracle Man"
3. "No Dancing"
4. "Blame It On Cain"

Embryonic is The Flaming Lips' 12th studio album and first double LP. According to ringleader Wayne Coyne, Embryonic was conceived as a double album as a means of forcing the band to become more free and uninhibited. “I believe I was stuck thinking of us as being a group of reckless, sloppy freaks,” he explains “and that, if we weren’t constantly trying to be more disciplined or more refined or more together, maybe our creative luck would elude us.” As the title suggests, Embryonic has an air of being a work in progress rather than a completed action and it makes for some very exciting and liberating music from one of music's most enigmatic performers.
"It sounds like John Lennon but if he got together with Miles Davis and they went back in time, but there was a supercomputer that they could figure out how to work." - Wayne Coyne/NME on Embryonic

 Dire Straits
Dire Straits
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Dire Straits’ self-titled debut arrived in the midst of punk’s reign but couldn’t have been further removed from the era’s slash-and-burn style. Here is tasteful, jazz-inflected rock, all smoothly skating on virtuoso guitarist Mark Knopfler’s winding guitar lines and the band’s laidback rhythms. Equally drawing from country, roots, and folk influences, the British quartet’s stripped-down music knew no peers in the 70s, and has never been matched to this day.
Part of the reason for the band’s uniqueness owes to its clean, vibrant sound. Just as Knopfler’s narratives reflect poetic and surrealist texts, the group’s arrangements, an intoxicating combination of easygoing shuffles, bluesy boogies, and pop-honed ballads, mirror the old-fashioned soulfulness and spaciousness inherent in the classic recordings of the late '50s and early '60s. It’s no wonder why Dire Straits has long been a favorite of audiophiles the world over. When it comes to sonic purity, transparent soundstages, and rich tonalities, few, if any bands sound better.
And now, thanks to the meticulous efforts of Warner Bros., Dire Straits’ 1978 breakthrough debut can be experienced like never before. Remastered and cut from the original analog tapes and pressed on high-quality 180g vinyl, Dire Straits is simply out-of-this-world good. Knopfler’s mesmerizing guitar textures and cool vocals appear as if they’re right in front of you. Details, imaging, and presence are on a level associated with the finest audiophile recordings.
As it’s proven for the last few years, Warner Bros. treats vinyl with the ultimate respect, and this must-have Dire Straits record is no exception. Listeners with original copies of the LP, or Simply Vinyl’s pressing, will be absolutely stunned upon hearing the improvements. And the rest of us can simply rejoice in knowing that low-key songs such as “Sultans of Swing” and “Southbound Again” resonate with an airiness, openness, and palpability they’ve never claimed prior. A five-star pressing!

Rickie Lee Jones Pirates On Numbered Limited-Edition 180-gram LP From Mobile Fidelity. Singer-Songwriter’s gorgeous-sounding 1981 album finally remastered!
Rickie Lee Jones' Pirates arrives like a cloudburst in the desert of Eighties formula pop music and recycled heavy-metal rock.” So wrote Stephen Holden in Rolling Stone in his five-star review of the eclectic artist’s sophomore album, a set that continues to defy eras and styles. While less-well known than her 1979 self-titled debut, the ambitious 1981 record remains Jones’ definitive statement—an effort steeped in biographical details, fictional circumstances, and classic literary elements.
Narratively blending West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet while also exploring spirit worlds and her breakup with Tom Waits, Pirates is at its core an idiosyncratic fusion of possibilities. And does Jones deliver! Accompanied by an all-star lineup that includes trumpeter Randy Brecker, Steely Dan icon Donald Fagen, drumming colossus Steve Gadd, session pro Victor Feldman, and legendary jazz arranger Ralph Burns, the singer-songwriter achieves a musical nirvana that encompasses post-bop, coffeehouse folk, bohemian pop, romantic soul, Beat poetry, and Broadway showtunes.
Harmonized vocals and jive talking bring the piano-based record’s rich characters to life, making it seem as if listeners are overhearing conversations between strangers. In more than one way, Pirates is a self-contained theatrical production in which Jones’ singing is the star attraction. Her moody whispers, cries, and coos are the voices of spurned lovers, alienated outcasts, and unlikely heroines. Albums with this kind of stylistic magnitude, close-up intimacy, and emotional intensity come around only once or so a decade.
Mobile Fidelity is proud to have had the opportunity to remaster Pirates from the original analog master tapes and produce a version that captures every nuance of this great-sounding studio masterpiece. Co-produced by Russ Titelman and Lenny Waronker (whose long list of credits include Randy Newman, James Taylor, and Eric Clapton records), trust us when we say that this 180-gram LP is one of the finest-sounding pop records you’ll hear. Fans of Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Carole King, and Sarah Vaughan should consider this requisite listening. MoFi’s mini-LP style packaging only adds to the allure.
So don’t hesitate: Be the “Lucky Guy” that Jones sings about on the record by securing your lowest-numbered copy of Mobile Fidelity’s half-speed mastered LP of Pirates today!

 Court and Spark
Joni Mitchell
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Court And Spark completed Joni Mitchell's transition from folk-singer to sophisticated rock auteur. In addition to her meticulously crafted melodies and evocative, image-rich lyrics, the songs here are breezy and immediately appealing. This is in part due to Tom Scott's L.A. Express, a sinuous jazz-based combo, but also to Mitchell's knack for pop hooks. The album's accessibility made it Mitchell's most commercially successful, yet the personal intensity and insight of her songwriting never wavers. Court And Spark confirmed her standing as one of the most important and subtle talents of the rock era.

 Blood Visions
Jay Reatard
$16.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed

In the late '90s, 15-year-old Jay Lindsey, living right outside Memphis, played all of the instruments on a demo tape by his newly-minted performing moniker of “The Reatards.” This cassette was sent to Eric Friedl of the Oblivians, who had used the “Goner Records” imprint on a couple of releases. His next would be a 7” by The Reatards, followed shortly by a full length LP, Teenage Hate (Goner, 1998).
After quickly building a reputation for an anything-goes live set, and releasing another excellent full length Grown Up, Fucked Up (Empty, 1999), Jay Reatard shoved what was previously a side project to the forefront and started raising eyebrows with something other than live mayhem: songwriting and an ear for breaking ground.
Jay’s first title under the solo “Jay Reatard” moniker, Blood Visions was released in early 2006 on In The Red, and it politely sat on the shelves for over six months until the live act brought up the rear and things started to happen. More singles for more labels, a handful of mind-bending SXSW performances, nonstop touring, a bidding war…and the first quarter of 2008 found Jay Reatard on Matador Records.

 Rastaman Vibrations
Bob Marley
$30.99 $29.99
180 Gram audiophile virgin vinyl Import LP -Sealed
|
For Bob Marley, 1975 was a triumphant year. The singer's Natty Dread album featured one of his strongest batches of original material (the first compiled after the departure of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer) and delivered Top 40 hit 'No Woman No Cry.' The follow-up Live set, a document of Marley's appearance at London's Lyceum, found the singer conquering England as well. Upon completing the tour, Marley and his band returned to Jamaica, laying down the tracks for Rastaman Vibration (1976) at legendary studios run by Harry Johnson and Joe Gibbs. At the mixing board for the sessions were Sylvan Morris and Errol Thompson, Jamaican engineers of the highest caliber. Though none of these cuts would show up on Legend, Marley's massively popular, posthumous best-of, some of the finest reality numbers would surface on the compilation's more militant equivalent, 1986's Rebel Music set. 'War,' for one, remains one of the most stunning statements of the singer's career. Though it is essentially a straight reading of one of Haile Selassie's speeches, Marley phrases the text exquisitely to fit a musical setting, a quiet intensity lying just below the surface. Equally strong are the likes of 'Rat Race,' 'Crazy Baldhead,' and 'Want More.' These songs are tempered by buoyant, lighthearted material like 'Cry to Me,' 'Night Shift,' and 'Positive Vibration.' Not quite as strong as some of the love songs Marley would score hits with on subsequent albums, 'Cry to Me' still seems like an obvious choice for a single and remains underrated. Though record buyers may not have found any single song to be as strong on those terms as 'No Woman No Cry,' Rastaman Vibration still reached the Top Ten in the United States.

 All For You
Diana Krall
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
On this salute to pianist/vocalist extraordinaire Nat King Cole, Diana Krall has a lot to live up to, presenting a group of compositions that are ingrained in the public's memory as part of a lasting legacy of both jazz and pop music. It's to her credit that she went about this intimidating task with a resourcefulness and quiet grace that makes All For You an exceptional tribute. A majority of All For You features Krall in an appropriately unadorned trio setting wonderfully capturing the essence of the Cole trio's arrangements. Krall swings hard with guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Paul Keller on "I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm" and "Hit That Jive Jack," often employing Cole trio devices such as repeated unison figures and on-top-of-the-beat eighth notes on bass. Krall's own sultry, understated singing and crisp, straightforward piano is distinctive enough to cast a fine new light on these classic songs. Here on 180g Double Vinyl!

Live At The It Club (Mosaic Records)
Thelonious Monk
$99.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 4 LPs
|
The Thelonious Monk Quartet with Charlie Rouse lasted 11 years. October 31 and November 1, 1964 at the It Club in Los Angeles showcase Monk at particular high point pianistically; in fact, he went into a Los Angeles studio and recorded the album Solo Monk on the afternoons preceding and following the live taping. He is in full force throughout, but his playing is particularly superb on the standards "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" and the previously unreleased "Sweet And Lovely."
The band plays standards, many of Monk's famous tunes, a few lesser known items like "Gallop's Gallop" and "Blues Five Spot" and the recent compositions "Teo" and "Bright Mississippi." Propelled by Gales and Riley, Monk and Rouse deliver amazing 10-minute excursions on such Monk classics as "Nutty," "Rhythm-a-ning" and "Blue Monk."
Rouse in his sixth year with Monk had hit his stride, truly becoming Monk's musical alter ego. Remarkably, drummer Ben Riley had joined the quartet at the beginning of 1964 and bassist Larry Gales had only logged in a month at the time of this taping; yet they already show the first signs of collective greatness on these evenings.
Mosaic has returned to the original three-track tapes and mixed them down to beautiful sounding analog stereo masters, presenting the six sets they played that night as they happened.
Track Listing:
1. Blue Monk
2. Well, You Needn’t

 Live In Paris
Frank Sinatra
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Live In Paris is Frank Sinatra’s definitive concert album. Yes, there are many good ones—Sinatra at the Sands is also among the finest—but none better captures the essence of the singer’s voice, showmanship, and command than this 1962 session, which remained unreleased until 1994. Backed only by a sextet, the main focus here is on Sinatra’s peerless singing, phrasing, and style. Needless to say, the iconic crooner doesn’t disappoint.
It’s impossible to overstate the magnificence of the interpretations on this set. Looking for the ultimate renditions of “My Funny Valentine,” “In the Still of the Night,” “One for My Baby,” “Night and Day,” and “Ol’ Man River”? Search no more. Sinatra’s readings of these classics exceed his superb studio versions, as well as those that appear on other live albums. And consider the setlist: “The Lady is a Tramp,” “Come Fly With Me,” “Chicago,” “I Could Have Danced All Night.” Superb. And Sinatra is simply “on,” bringing a combination of swinging enthusiasm, reverent charm, and dignified emotion to standards. He triumphs with a powerful voice yet affected by the ravages of time and cigarettes.
Fans of Sinatra at the Sands should take note. Sinatra in Paris is much more intimate, with the scaled-down arrangements and small band allowing songs to bask in the glory of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ voice. Yes, Sinatra’s period onstage comments can seem crude. But they take nothing away from the sheer superiority of this recording.
Ever since its release, the lone drawback to Sinatra in Paris has been that of the inferior sound quality. Lament the shortcoming no more. Half-speed mastered from the original tapes and pressed onto two slabs of quiet 180-gram vinyl, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition 2-LP set lifts the veil on the music and allows it to soar with a richness, texture, openness, and presence that have until now gone missing. You will swoon over the improvements.

 Bitches Brew
Miles Davis
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

The mercurial Bitches Brew is thought by many to be one of the most revolutionary albums in jazz history, having virtually created the genre known as jazz-rock fusion. Miles adds to his In A Silent Way concept here with soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, additional drums and percussion, plus African, Indian and Brazilian instruments. The result was unlike any music heard before or since. A complete rejection of traditional songs, chord progressions, or even melodic conventions, the album signified that music could be just layers of texture and sound. Bitches Brew is not just an important recording, it's an essential one!

 A Love Supreme
John Coltrane
$16.99 $15.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
This album is pure and raw Jazz. Every song demonstrates Coltrane's prowess on the sax. In one word this album is 'emotion.' Coltrane seems to poor his whole heart into this project. All the players are in peak performance mode and it shows as each take their turn demonstrating their talents. On the track titled "Resolution" McCoy Tyner struts his stuff on the piano, and Coltrane makes his sax literally cry. I would consider this one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time.
Historically speaking, this was one of only two albums that Coltrane recorded all year in 1964. Coltrane's other album that year was titled "Crescent." "Love Supreme" was awarded gold status by 1970 and I can see why, it is a great album.
The beginning of "Pursuance/Part 4 - Psalm" is a drum set that is wonderful and then Coltrane comes screaming into the song with a wonderful brassy sax sound. This is followed by Tyner who is all over the keys of the piano. This last track is pure and raw emotional jazz.
This album could hold a slot next to Miles Davis' work titled "Kind of Blue." The album is dedicated to God, whom Coltrane says in the inserts, is the "Love Supreme." If you don't have this album then you are missing one of the greatest Jazz album's ever recorded. Get it and see why all the reviews below rave on about this masterpiece.
Part 1 - Acknowledgement
Part 2 - Resolution
Part 3 - Pursuance
Part 4 - Psalm

 Discwasher D4 Vinyl Record Cleaner
$21.99 $19.99
|
A favorite among collectors for many years. Use the brush dry or wet with the included 1.25 oz. fluid. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris.
The D4+ Record Care System is the result of intensive scientific research on safe record cleaning. The D4+ System is a cleaning system unlike other products, which reduce record dynamics and fidelity. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris. Containing less residue than tap water, D4+ fluid will clean without depositing new residues on the record surface; it will not encourage any biological growth as do "constantly damp" cleaning methods.
For longer life, Discwasher recommends that records be lightly cleaned each time before playing. New records should also be cleaned before their first play. Although presumed clean, many new recordings still have mold release compounds in their grooves, thus requiring cleaning.
HAND CRAFTED
The handle of the Discwasher D4+ Record Care System has been hand crafted and finished from solid American walnut, creating elegance for an already superior cleaner.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ROUTINE PRE-PLAY CLEANING
Application
Apply 3-6 drops of the D4+ fluid in a line on the leading edge of the pad (the arrow on the end of the handle points to the leading edge). Distribute the fluid along the leading edge of the pad using several deliberate strokes with the bottom of the D4 bottle, causing the pad to form a strip of damp fabric.
Position
Position the disc washer handle/pad with the arrow end on the outside edge of the record. Gently contact the record with the damp leading edge of the pad. The turntable motor may be assisted by gently turning the record with you finger on the label.
Clean/Dry
Allow the damp leading edge to contact the record for about three revolutions. Dry the record with a simple rolling movement of the handle, allowing for the middle and back edge to contact the album for several revolutions, assuring thorough drying.
D4+ Record Care System.
- Simply the finest record cleaner available.
- Cleans records while retaining fidelity.
- 1.25 fl. oz. D4 recording cleaning fluid.
- D4 pad with solid walnut handle, and convenient storage case.

 What's Going On
Marvin Gaye
$29.99
Gain 2 Ultra Analog 180 Gram Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has obtained the master tapes of this landmark album and for the first time What’s Going On will be released on 180g UTLRA ANALOG LP. As with all Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab releases, meticulous attention to detail is paid during the transfer process.
Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On was a landmark recording and is considered one of the greatest albums ever made. Rolling Stone named it Album Of The Year when it came out and, in 2003, it was ranked number 6, the highest for a non-rock album, in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. Originally, the title cut was recorded as a single, and Motown chief Berry Gordy refused to release it, citing that it was too personal and political. "What's Going On" became Motown's fastest-selling single at that point, going to the number one spot on the R&B charts for five weeks and number two for three weeks on the Pop listings, which lead Gordy to request a full album's worth of material.
“What's Going On”, the single, was recorded in June of 1970. The remainder of the album was recorded in March-May of 1971 and was released on May 21st of that year. It was produced entirely by Marvin Gaye.

 Transatlanticism
Death Cab For Cutie
$49.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Import
As musical lunacy goes, things have gotten as crazy as it gets for Death Cab for Cutie since 2002's You Can Play These Songs with Chords compilation. A wildly successful tour with Dismemberment Plan, a collaboration for singer Ben Gibbard with emo-electronic guru Dntel under the Postal Service moniker, and a whole new legion of fans swooning to Gibbard's lyrics as if he were a modern day answer to Kiss Me-era Robert Smith have all amassed considerable hype around Transatlanticism. But the group proves themselves more than equal to the task, answering the call and proving the cynics wrong with their most focused and most mature work in their entire catalog. Transatlanticism wastes absolutely no time and dives in head first with "The New Year," one of the most melodramatic openings to an album since the Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight" from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The mellow, mixed-meter percussion and dense atmosphere of "Lightness" is a brilliant lead into the pop-happy "Expo '86" and "The Sound of Settling" before setting up the climatic and intensely dramatic title track. Unconsciously taking a page from Blur's "Sing," the hypnotic drumming and guitar call and responses through the eight-minute climax of the album are backed with a singalong finale that unquestionably will have every audience on the next tour singing along and holding up their lighters. And while most albums would be left exhausted after such a track, the group keeps things moving, albeit at a much slower pace than compared to the anthems that packed the first half. Gibbard seamlessly makes the transition between songs that full out rock to songs that are comparable to Elliott Smith's finest hour with great ease. But it's Gibbard's poetic lyrics and signature introspection that remain a bench mark for Death Cab; and it's the group's maturity as musicians as well as songwriters that make Transatlanticism such a decadently good listen from start to finish. The band has never sounded more cohesive, the track sequencing is brilliant, and it caps off a triumphant year for not only Gibbard, but a band whose time and greater recognition is finally due. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide

 Self Portrait
Bob Dylan
$28.99
High-Definition Vinyl LP -2 LPs Sealed
|
One of the most controversial albums in Bob Dylan's remarkable catalog, the 1970 double-LP Self Portrait continues to exercise considerable fascination amongst Dylan devotees. Released on the heels of the artist's game changing Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait offered a quirky assortment of studio and live tracks, encompassing Dylan originals as well as covers of familiar pop and folk numbers, recorded with an all-star musical cast.
At the time of its original release, the sprawling, unconventional Self Portrait generated an immense amount of discussion and disagreement amonst Dylan admirers. The ongoing controversy surrounding the album has been fueled over the years by Dylan himself. At various times, Dylan has defended Self Portrait as a heartfelt artistic statement, dismissed it as a joke and described it as a concerted effort to escape the pressures of his unwanted status as the voice of a generation. Whatever the artist's actual intentions, Self Portrait retains a unique niche in the hearts of Dylan fans, and is often cited as an early landmark in the birth of alternative country.
Self Portrait's highlights include the Dylan originals "Wigwam," later featured in the Wes Anderson film The Royal Tenenbaums; "Living the Blues," subsequently covered by artists ranging from Leon Redbone to Antony Hegarty; and "The Mighty Quinn," which Manfred Mann had turned into a British Invasion hit in 1968. The latter song is one of a quartet of live tracks drawn from Dylan's legendary performances with The Band at the historic Isle of Wight festival, along with memorable versions of the Dylan standards "Like a Rolling Stone," "Minstrel Boy" and "She Belongs to Me." Also featured are Dylan's readings of a variety of outside material, ranging from his iconic interpretation of the rural folk song "Copper Kettle" to his distinctive takes on such familiar tunes as Paul Simon's "The Boxer," Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Mornin' Rain" and the vintage Every Brothers hits "Let It Be Me" and "Take a Message to Mary."
Sundazed has restored this one-of-a-kind release to its original double-LP format. Mastered from the original analog master tapes, the album is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl, with meticulously reproduced original gatefold cover art.

 Nevermind
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
On Colored Vinyl!
|
Remastered 180-Gram Pressing Cut from Original Master Tapes by Bernie Grundman and Pressed at RTI. This is THE Definitive Version of the Life-Altering 1991 Blockbuster Album!
Pressed on Dead-Quiet Blue-Colored Virgin Vinyl and Limited to Only 4000 Copies Worldwide!
Few records changed the world. Nirvana's Nevermind is one of them. Released in September 1991, the well-produced yet emotionally raw album catapulted grunge into the mainstream and forever altered the popular musical landscape, turning Nirvana into household names and singer Kurt Cobain into the reluctant spokesperson of his generation. By year’s end, Seattle-based music, fashion, and attitude consumed popular consciousness. Nevermind had restored the gritty passion, rebellious mentality, and cathartic power long missing from mainstream rock. Call it the mighty sword that in one swoop fell the excess, plasticity, and emptiness of 80s music.
The record’s impact is also be measured by the success of its singles. Named by Rolling Stone as the #9 Best Song of All Time, the anthemic “Smells Like Teen Spirit” became an institution on radio stations and MTV. Subsequent singles “Come As You Are,” “Lithium,” and “In Bloom” also testified to the genius of the soft-loud arrangements and whip-smart commentary on Nevermind, which at its core was a blockbuster pop album in punk clothing.
More than ten million copies later, the record has only picked up more accolades, having been included at or near the top of nearly every major publication’s Greatest Albums list. Nevermind is listed as:
#1 in Spin’s 90 Greatest Albums of the 90s
#1 Album of the Year in Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop Poll
#6 in Pitchfork’s Top 100 Albums of the 1990s
#17 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time
#1 in Entertainment Weekly’s Best Albums of the 90s
In addition to the groundbreaking music, sound quality has always been among the album’s finest aspects. Cleanly produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Andy Wallace, Nevermind features explosive dynamics, bursting tones, and a wide-open midrange. While Cobain later disparaged the sound as being too polished, the truth was that the room-filling sound allowed the record to grab the attention of anyone within earshot. Much imitated but never equaled, the sound became the template that nearly every band requested be put on their albums.
And it has never sounded better. Cut for ORG from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on blue-colored 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, ORG’s Limited Edition Collector’s Version is THE definitive edition of this masterpiece. WE GUARANTEE THIS BEATS EVERY PREVIOUS PRESSING. Dave Grohl’s titantic drumming, Cobain’s gut-wrenching screams and distortion-packed guitar riffs, and Krist Novoselic’s loopy bass lines all feature life-size imaging and incredible presence. Do not pass this up!

 The Fall
Norah Jones
$18.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
“For this record, I just had a sound in my head,” says Norah Jones. “I wanted the grooves to be more present and heavy. And I also just wanted to do something different. I’ve been hanging with the same group of musicians for a long time, and I thought it was a good time for me to work with different people and experiment a little.”
The result of these experiments is the multiple Grammy Award-winner’s new album, The Fall. The album is an exciting evolution from her previous three releases, which have sold a combined 36 million copies worldwide. The first obvious change on The Fall is a lengthy list of new collaborators. Producer Jacquire King, who has worked with Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, and Tom Waits, among others, helped Jones put together a group of musicians, including drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer). Jones also joined forces with several notable songwriters on The Fall, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, as well as her frequent collaborator Jesse Harris.

 World Painted Blood
Slayer

Vinyl LP - Sealed

Nine studio albums, thousands of live shows and nearly three decades into a career that’s made them one of the biggest and most important metal bands in the world, the members of Slayer know exactly what kind of music they make, brutal but beautiful, punishing yet precise. A fresh Slayer record is a thing of terror but also one of trust, you can depend on what you’re getting even if you’re unprepared for it. As guitarist Jeff Hanneman says, “At this point I think a Slayer album pretty much speaks for itself.”
World Painted Blood, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2006’s Christ Illusion, is one of Slayer’s most impressive efforts yet, a vicious, uncompromising look at what’s broken in our society and how frighteningly powerless we are to fix it. King says World is “more well-rounded than the last couple of albums.” Lombardo calls it “a speed metal record with emotion.” Produced by Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Slipknot). Executive produced by Rick Rubin.

Incorporating the warmth, melodies and simplicity of '70's and '80's California rock/pop, Battle Studies is a confessional, relaxed and liberated album recorded in a private home in California where Mayer lived and worked over the course of six months before wrapping at the famed Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.
The album's first single, "Who Says" challenges conventional standards of what one can accomplish or undertake despite society's constraints. Battle Studies also showcases universal themes on "Heartbreak Warfare," "Assassin," and "War of My Life," while flexing guitar chops on "Rock Song," and a reinterpretation of "Crossroads." The famously collaborative guitar player also invited one of music's brightest new talents, Taylor Swift, to appear on "Half of My Heart."
"I approach music like a director doing a period piece," says Mayer. "Where Continuum was R&B and Soul, Battle Studies was written with the timelessness of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young in mind. The melodies and message are concise and from-the-gut with the efficiency of simplicity."

 Kind Of Brown
Christian McBride
$49.99
210 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP -2 LPs Sealed
|
Kind Of Brown is the Mack Avenue debut for dynamic composer, bandleader and musician Christian McBride. Although he’s has toured and recorded extensively with his jammy, electric Weather Report-like band, Christian felt the primordial urge to return to New York’s hallowed jazz basement, the Village Vanguard. However, since the Vanguard doesn’t allow any “rock n’ roll music” he assembled Warren Wolf, Carl Allen, Eric Reed and Steve Wilson to form Inside Straight. The quintet holed up in the famed Fantasy Studios (Berkeley, CA) to record Kind Of Brown, a release fueled by the imagination/spirit/sweat of all those whom had toiled at the fabled studio before them, a truly encyclopedic roster.
This limited edition, two LP set, 33 1/3 rpm, is 210 gram vinyl for the boomingest bass. The gatefold packaging features liner notes by famed producer Orrin Keepnews, and each LP set comes with a free digital download of Kind of Brown, plus cover art.

Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall
John Coltrane
$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Jazz has had its share of archival discoveries, not the least of which were Dean Benedetti's recordings of Charlie Parker. But the discovery of more music from the Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane is made all the more extraordinary because so few knew it existed and the only official recordings by this band were made in its first weeks of existence. Now, a forgotten November 1957 Carnegie Hall concert taped by Voice of America radio has been discovered by the Library of Congress with two appearances by the quartet.
These two 25-minute, five-tune sets feature the quartet in great fidelity and unbelievable form. The empathy and invention of the group here far surpasses the Riverside session, made months earlier. Playing together every night for 18 weeks sharpened the skills and interaction of these brilliant musicians. Monk's piano playing has never sounded like this; his arpeggios are virtuosic and each note rings with clarity on the Carnegie Hall piano. Coltrane had fully mastered Monk's music by this time. In the confines of short playing times (most tunes are four to six minutes in duration), he plays with a fervid intensity trying to cram all his ideas into a brief amount of time. Ahmed Abdul-Malik and Shadow Wilson play the intricate arrangements with fluidity and push the soloists to great heights. Thanks to the clarity and presence of Wilson's drums on this recording, his work will be a revelation to anyone wh | | | |
