 The Bright Mississippi
Allen Toussaint ("Tousan")
$29.99
Vinyl LP + CD - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Through his work as producer, composer, arranger and consummate session man, New Orleans native Allen Toussaint has truly earned living-legend status. He’s collaborated on landmark recordings for such artists as Ernie K. Doe, Lee Dorsey, Dr. John, the Meters, the Pointer Sisters and Labelle and released acclaimed albums of his own. The 70 year-old pianist, already a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, was the recipient, on the recent Grammy Awards telecast, of the Recording Academy’s prestigious Trustee Award, honoring a lifetime in the studio, both behind the scenes and in front of the mic.
On The Bright Mississippi, his Nonesuch debut, Toussaint continues to break new ground with his first jazz-oriented set, displaying the same effortless swing and relaxed charm he brought to his classic rock and roll sides. He salutes Big Easy stars of a previous generation, the jazz greats who, in the early 20th century, built the genre from the ground up and turned the ears of the world to New Orleans. Backed by an all-star combo that sounds like a group of old friends, Toussaint reinterprets classic jazz and blues tunes popularized or written by such New Orleans greats as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton and Joe “King” Oliver, as well as pieces composed by fellow travelers Django Reinhardt, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. He accedes the producer’s chair to trusted friend Joe Henry, who sat behind the board for Toussaint’s contributions to Our New Orleans, Nonesuch Records’ best-selling 2005 benefit release aiding hurricane victims on the Gulf Coast. Henry also produced The River In Reverse, Toussaint’s 2006 post-Katrina collaboration with Elvis Costello.
Henry assembled a decidedly non-traditional band of backing players for The Bright Mississippi, assuring a fresh take on such venerable tunes as “West End Blues,” “St. James Infirmary,” and “Dear Old Southland.” Joining Toussaint for four days of sessions at Manhattan’s Avatar Studio were guitarist Marc Ribot (Costello, Tom Waits), bassist David Piltch (k.d. lang), clarinetist Don Byron, trumpeter Nicholas Payton and drummer Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant /Alison Krauss, Sam Phillips). Nonesuch label-mates Brad Mehldau (piano) and Joshua Redman (saxophone) stopped by for one tune each.“It was wonderful,” says Toussaint of these convivial sessions.
“Everything is live, of course. This isn’t the kind of assembly line music where somebody put the wheels on here and somebody put the top on there. Everything got done at the same time, so everybody fed on eachother, their personality and tonality.”

 Electric Dirt
Levon Helm
$24.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Electric Dirt (Dirt Farmer Music/Vanguard Records) is the second album in the last two years from American musical treasure Levon Helm. Its predecessor, the Grammy-winning Dirt Farmer, his first solo LP in a quarter century, followed Levon’s near-miraculous recovery from throat cancer, and as such represented a new lease on life for the legendary artist, who rose to prominence as the drummer and vocalist for Levon and the Hawks, which later became The Band. Electric Dirt again finds Levon steeped in tradition in his connection to the land and those who live by it, but this record goes deeper and wider, incorporating gospel, blues and soul elements in a bracing collection of originals and carefully chosen outside songs. As with Dirt Farmer, multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell took the reigns as producer and the album was recorded at Levon's "The Barn" Studios.
"Our objective here was to take the honesty, innocence and purity of the Dirt Farmer record which represents a true element of what Levon is all about, but also expand on that and explore deeper the goldmine of Levon’s musical artistry," states Campbell.
Track Listing:
1. Tennessee Jed
2. Move Along Train

 Wilco (The Album)
Wilco
$21.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Wilco’s newest release and seventh studio outing, Wilco (the album), took shape quickly in January 2009 after the band traveled to Auckland, New Zealand to participate in an Oxfam International benefit project. The band began cutting tracks for the new album, producing it themselves with the help of engineer Jim Scott. The sextet completed the album at its Chicago loft studio and performed some of the new material in April at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Wilco (the album) combines the intimacy of its previous studio release, Sky Blue Sky (2007), with the experimentation of A Ghost Is Born (2004) in a set that boasts strong melodies and gorgeous, often unabashedly pop arrangements. Wilco has clearly laid out the welcome mat to admirers of all aspects of its career. The album even opens with “Wilco (the song),” originally unveiled in the group’s performance on The Colbert Report last October.
Vocalist Jeff Tweedy’s lyrics remain frank and fascinating, and, similar to Sky Blue Sky, most songs are conscise. “Bull Black Nova,” however, features a dramatically building arrangement and thrilling guitar crescendo that comes across as more of a duel than a jam. It’s followed by the gentle “You and I,” a duet between Tweedy and Canadian indie sensation Feist, and “You Never Know,” a glorious anthem. The album culminates with “Everlasting Everything,” a piano-driven ballad with delicate sonic nuances that lyrically celebrates love’s enduring power.
The vinyl version of Wilco (the album) is pressed on 180-gram audiophile-quality vinyl and includes the complete album on CD and MP3. Per Wilco's high standards, the sonics are tremendous, filled with immense detail, warmth, and presence. Yet another masterwork by the best American rock band going.

2. Deeper Down
3. One Wing
4. Bull Black Nova
5. You And I
6. You Never Know

 Murmur
R.E.M.
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
R.E.M. developed a strangely subdued variation of their trademark sound for their full-length debut album, Murmur by de-emphasizing the backbeat and accentuating the ambience of the guitars. Even though it's firmly rooted in the tradition of American folk-rock, post-punk, and garage rock, Murmur sounds eerily timeless, as if it appeared out of nowhere. Part of the distinctiveness lies in the atmospheric production, which exudes a detached sense of mystery, but it also comes from the remarkably accomplished songwriting. R.E.M. went on to produce a few albums that may have been on par with Murmur, but they never made anything that sounded quite like it. Reissued here on audiophile quality 180g vinyl with original packaging.

 Voltaic
Bjork
$24.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP + CD - Sealed
|
Volta had been designed, Björk has said, as a journey, with the sound of fog horns and clanging bells linking individual tracks and artists from around the world making guest appearances, including Congolese band Konono No. 1, Malian kora player Toumani Diabaté, pipa virtuoso Wu Man, beat-master Timbaland, Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale and sublime chanteur Antony Hegarty. The New York Times called it “a 21st-century assemblage of the computerized and the handmade, the personal and the global.”
Voltaic, then, is a remarkable, multi-media document of what happened after the record was completed, a journey of a different sort as the ever-evolving singer assembled her live band, made a collection of typically amazing videos and one-step-ahead remixes, and toured the world for two years, making headline appearances at diverse venues and large festivals, including Glastonbury, Coachella and even Harlem’s Apollo Theatre. She recorded the Voltaic live album in one take at Olympic Studio in London with her new band, prior to her 2007 Glastonbury appearance, presenting the set she would play on tour, songs from Volta and new arrangements of such older material as “Pagan Poetry,” “All Is Full Of Love” and a thunderous version of “Army Of Me.” It’s a stunning performance, featuring cutting-edge computer technology, an old-school horn section and a female, ag-toting Icelandic choir.
Volta, said the NME, was “another amazing statement of intent full of hope, eccentricity and wonderfulness.” Voltaic presents a fascinating abundance of evidence that, as the NME put it, “there’s still no one like her.”

Day Trip / Tokyo Day Trip
Pat Metheny
$36.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed w/ 2 CDs
|
The Day Trip sessions were recorded at Manhattan’s Right Track studio in late October of 2005, sequenced and released into a 10-song set in the winter of 2008. Reviews from the daily U.S. press along the way have been a compendium of superlatives. The Philadelphia Inquirer declared, “Metheny shows why the trio is still relevant...There’s nowhere to hide, and the easy fluency of Metheny’s chops create a unique world. His energy and verve make it fun to follow where he goes.” The Boston Herald concurred, “The trio format brings out the best in guitar virtuoso Pat Metheny, going all the way back to his stir-causing 1975 debut with drummer Bob Moses and late bass legend Jaco Pastorius...But his current ensemble...is arguably his best yet.” And the Louisville Courier Journal summed up the nightly reaction to the trio’s sets, “It was a collaborative tour de force that earned a standing ovation.”
Tokyo Day Trip was originally released in May of 2008 as a 5-track EP recorded live in Tokyo with the Day Trip trio prior to their studio sessions. This 3-disc vinyl release combines the contents of the full-length album and the live EP in a 3-pocket deluxe gatefold package plus 2 CDs in baby jackets.
“The Pat Metheny Trio’s playing conveys a sense of proportion, substance and coherence, along with rigorous clarity; solid benchmarks for any great improvisers at the peak of their game.” – The New York Times

 Middle Cyclone
Neko Case
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Neko Case's last album, 2006's Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, achieved that rare plateau where critical acclaim meets commercial success. Along with her work in pop darlings The New Pornographers, Neko’s string of extraordinary releases has brought her that iconic status where an artist can forge an uncommonly deep and meaningful bond with her audience. Neko’s many fans hang on her impressionistic lyrics, classic pop harmonics, and luxurious voice, and her new album, Middle Cyclone, revels in all three. With Neko's indefatigable touring band (guitarist Paul Rigby, bassist Tom V. Ray, vocalist Kelly Hogan, multi-instrumentalist Jon Rauhouse and drummer Barry Mirochnick) building the bedrock of the tracks, Case was able to bring in a collection of friends and fellow travelers including M. Ward, Garth Hudson, Sarah Harmer, and members of The New Pornographers, Los Lobos, Calexico, The Sadies, Visqueen, The Lilys, and Giant Sand. From the ragtag “piano orchestra” that drives the Phil Spector majesty of “Don’t Forget Me,” (one of two carefully conceived covers on the album) to the guitar/vocal intimacy of “Middle Cyclone,” the new album represents both a continuation and a profound leap for Neko Case, the fusing of her longterm themes of nature vs. man into a shining lyrical broadsword, like the one she wields on the extraordinary album cover. “Things like animals and nature, they're located in the tender receptor of my brain. I'm just now trying to come to terms with the notion of loving people as much as I love those other
things because I grew up in a way that made me love the one but not the other.

 Insomniac
Green Day
$18.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In anticipation of Green Day's upcoming new release, 21st Century Breakdown, Reprise Records has announced it will be reissuing the band's entire catalog on vinyl throughout 2009.
The Berkeley pop-punks' 1995 album Insomniac was their fourth release overall and follow-up to their breakthrough major label debut Dookie. With Insomniac the group took everything that was great about its predecessor, i.e. its simplicity, hooks, lack of pretension and disdain for authority, and upped the ante with darker motifs and heavier songs. It resulted in a quality collection of uncompromising punk rock with breakneck drumming, pounding bass, catchy riffs and snot-nosed vocals.

Who Are You (200 Gram) (NEW PRESSING)
The Who
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Sadly burdened with the trivia of being the last studio recording to feature drummer Keith Moon and thus closing the chapter on the band's original line-up, this 1978 release was also a major progression, not unlike what The Beatles and The Beach Boys undertook as they matured from their simple, rudimentary but still freakin' great early years.
In the three years since the release of Who By The Numbers, The Who foursome had undertaken solo projects and other individual interests. Finally reuniting after such an unusualy long hiatus, they recorded Who Are You between late 1977 and early '78, in a variety of London-area studios. Without a doubt, everyone in the world would have welcomed recycled Who akin to their first decade of hits. But simple, catchy rock riffs were to be superceded in more complex subjects and daring arrangements. Pete Townshend's observations of moving on and saying farewell (Sister Disco), the creative process (Guitar and Pen), FM radio and its banal recycled music (Music Must Change) and battles with alcohol (Who Are You) are some of his most poignant writings. Bassist John Entwistle contributes three songs, the most in any one Who album. 905, Had Enough and Trick Of The Light reflect some of his finest, often-overlooked, work.
The album peaked at No. 2 on the Pop chart in the U.S., most likely prevented from going No. 1 by to the Grease soundtrack. The lone single released, the title song Who Are You would become a concert staple, often expanded into a jam for Townshend's guitaristics, and then be licensed out in 2000 for the opening theme to the hit television show CSI: Crime Scene Investigations. This venerable Classic was re-mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood from the original analog master tapes provided by The Who.

2. Had Enough
3. 905
4. Sister Disco
5. Music Must Change

 Bitches Brew
Miles Davis
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
The mercurial Bitches Brew is thought by many to be one of the most revolutionary albums in jazz history, having virtually created the genre known as jazz-rock fusion. Miles adds to his In A Silent Way concept here with soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, additional drums and percussion, plus African, Indian and Brazilian instruments. The result was unlike any music heard before or since. A complete rejection of traditional songs, chord progressions, or even melodic conventions, the album signified that music could be just layers of texture and sound. Bitches Brew is not just an important recording, it's an essential one!

The White Stripes' 2000 cult classic De Stijl is the stripped down duo's second release and it finds them truly coming into their own with more complex arrangements and a wider dynamic range. From the pop bounce of "You're Pretty Good Looking (For a Girl)," to the blues howler, "Hello Operator," to the dirge-like "Death Letter," De Stijl is the album in which Jack White's artistic ideals caught up to his ambition, resulting in another step forward for the band and one step away from their 20001 breakthrough, White Blood Cells.

 What's Going On
Marvin Gaye
$29.99
Gain 2 Ultra Analog 180 Gram Vinyl LP - Sealed

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has obtained the master tapes of this landmark album and for the first time What’s Going On will be released on 180g UTLRA ANALOG LP. As with all Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab releases, meticulous attention to detail is paid during the transfer process.
Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On was a landmark recording and is considered one of the greatest albums ever made. Rolling Stone named it Album Of The Year when it came out and, in 2003, it was ranked number 6, the highest for a non-rock album, in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. Originally, the title cut was recorded as a single, and Motown chief Berry Gordy refused to release it, citing that it was too personal and political. "What's Going On" became Motown's fastest-selling single at that point, going to the number one spot on the R&B charts for five weeks and number two for three weeks on the Pop listings, which lead Gordy to request a full album's worth of material.
“What's Going On”, the single, was recorded in June of 1970. The remainder of the album was recorded in March-May of 1971 and was released on May 21st of that year. It was produced entirely by Marvin Gaye.

 A Love Supreme
John Coltrane
$16.99 $15.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
This album is pure and raw Jazz. Every song demonstrates Coltrane's prowess on the sax. In one word this album is 'emotion.' Coltrane seems to poor his whole heart into this project. All the players are in peak performance mode and it shows as each take their turn demonstrating their talents. On the track titled "Resolution" McCoy Tyner struts his stuff on the piano, and Coltrane makes his sax literally cry. I would consider this one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time.
Historically speaking, this was one of only two albums that Coltrane recorded all year in 1964. Coltrane's other album that year was titled "Crescent." "Love Supreme" was awarded gold status by 1970 and I can see why, it is a great album.
The beginning of "Pursuance/Part 4 - Psalm" is a drum set that is wonderful and then Coltrane comes screaming into the song with a wonderful brassy sax sound. This is followed by Tyner who is all over the keys of the piano. This last track is pure and raw emotional jazz.
This album could hold a slot next to Miles Davis' work titled "Kind of Blue." The album is dedicated to God, whom Coltrane says in the inserts, is the "Love Supreme." If you don't have this album then you are missing one of the greatest Jazz album's ever recorded. Get it and see why all the reviews below rave on about this masterpiece.
Part 1 - Acknowledgement
Part 2 - Resolution
Part 3 - Pursuance
Part 4 - Psalm

The classic Bob Marley album, the one that any fair-weather reggae fan owns, Legend contains 14 of his greatest songs, running the gamut from 'I Shot the Sheriff' to the meditative 'Redemption Song' and the irrepressible 'Three Little Birds.' Some may argue that the compilation shortchanges his groundbreaking early ska work or his status as a political commentator, but this isn't meant to be definitive, it's meant to be an introduction, sampling the very best of his work. And it does that remarkably well, offering all of his genre-defying greats and an illustration of his excellence, warmth, and humanity. In a way, it is perfect since it gives a doubter or casual fan anything they could want. Let's face it, the beauty and simplicity of Bob Marley's music was as important as his message, and that's captured particularly well here.

2. No Woman, No Cry
3. Could You Be Loved
4. Three Little Birds

Art Pepper The Way It Was! On Numbered Limited Edition 180g Vinyl LP
Art Pepper’s The Way it Was! was recorded for Contemporary between 1956-60 and the album is built around four previously un-released tunes pairing Pepper with the tenor of Warne Marsh. Filling out the program are three incredible tracks from Pepper's 1960 masterpieces Gettin' Together and Intensity as well as a cut from his 1957 release Meets the Rhythm Section. Supported by the likes of Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones, Wynton Kelly, Jimmy Cobb and Red Garland, their workouts on the standards “The Man I Love,” “Autumn Leaves” and especially “The Way You Look Tonight” establish a brilliant east-coast meets west-coast summit. Art's creamy alto more than holds it's own with some of New York's bop-elite, resulting in a masterpiece in its own right. Now here on Mobile Fidelity Numbered Limited Edition 180g Vinyl!

 Who Are You (NEW PRESSING)
The Who
$19.99
Vinyl LP Reissue - Sealed
|

 Discwasher D4 Vinyl Record Cleaner
$21.99 $19.99
|
A favorite among collectors for many years. Use the brush dry or wet with the included 1.25 oz. fluid. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris.
The D4+ Record Care System is the result of intensive scientific research on safe record cleaning. The D4+ System is a cleaning system unlike other products, which reduce record dynamics and fidelity. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris. Containing less residue than tap water, D4+ fluid will clean without depositing new residues on the record surface; it will not encourage any biological growth as do "constantly damp" cleaning methods.
For longer life, Discwasher recommends that records be lightly cleaned each time before playing. New records should also be cleaned before their first play. Although presumed clean, many new recordings still have mold release compounds in their grooves, thus requiring cleaning.
HAND CRAFTED
The handle of the Discwasher D4+ Record Care System has been hand crafted and finished from solid American walnut, creating elegance for an already superior cleaner.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ROUTINE PRE-PLAY CLEANING
Application
Apply 3-6 drops of the D4+ fluid in a line on the leading edge of the pad (the arrow on the end of the handle points to the leading edge). Distribute the fluid along the leading edge of the pad using several deliberate strokes with the bottom of the D4 bottle, causing the pad to form a strip of damp fabric.
Position
Position the disc washer handle/pad with the arrow end on the outside edge of the record. Gently contact the record with the damp leading edge of the pad. The turntable motor may be assisted by gently turning the record with you finger on the label.
Clean/Dry
Allow the damp leading edge to contact the record for about three revolutions. Dry the record with a simple rolling movement of the handle, allowing for the middle and back edge to contact the album for several revolutions, assuring thorough drying.
D4+ Record Care System.
- Simply the finest record cleaner available.
- Cleans records while retaining fidelity.
- 1.25 fl. oz. D4 recording cleaning fluid.
- D4 pad with solid walnut handle, and convenient storage case.

 Dial S For Sonny
Sonny Clark
$11.99
Vinyl LP Reissue - Sealed
|
Dial "S" for Sonny, Sonny Clark first session for Blue Note Records and his first session as a leader, is a terrific set of laidback bop, highlighted by Sonny Clark liquid, swinging solos. Sonny Clark leads a first-rate group -- Art Farmer (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Wilbur Ware (bass), Louis Hayes (drums) -- through four originals and two standards, balancing the selections between swinging bop and reflective ballads. There are traces of Bud Powell in Sonny Clark style, but he's beginning to come into his own, developing a style that's alternately edgy and charmingly relaxed. Hank Mobley, Art Farmer and Curtis Fuller have their moments, but Sonny Clark steals the show in this set of fine, straight-ahead bop.

 Relapse
Eminem
$15.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Anticipation for Eminem's new studio album Relapse has been building since the fall, when the hip hop superstar first announced the album title and debuted the freestyle, "I'm Having A Relapse," during an interview on his Shade 45 satellite radio station. The release of "Crack A Bottle" from Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent brought that anticipation to a head. The track soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Eminem's second #1 after 2002's "Lose Yourself") and set a Nielsen SoundScan record for opening week download sales. "Crack A Bottle" will be included as an album track on Relapse.
With the announcement of the release date for Relapse also comes confirmation of something that had been rumored in recent weeks: Eminem is already working on a follow-up album, Relapse 2, that fans can expect in the second half of 2009. "A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year," explains Eminem. "I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff."

 'Cause I Sez So
New York Dolls
$16.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The New York Dolls strutted onto the scene in the early 1970s with an irresistible mix of proto-punk rebellion, Stones-y swagger, and a glam, gender-bending blur of lipstick and platform boots. Their self-titled 1973 debut LP, #213 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, was produced by pop-rock wizard Todd Rundgren, who reunited with the band for, 'Cause I Sez So, the fourth studio album of their intermittent yet highly influential career. Recorded at Rundgren’s Utopia Sound Studio in Kauai, the album features original Dolls David Johansen (vocals) and Sylvain Sylvain (guitar) plus Steve Conte (guitar), Brian Delaney (drums) and Sami Yaffa (bass). The 12-song track list features 11 new originals plus a send-up of “Trash,” a standout from their ’73 debut that Rolling Stone praised as a, “nonsensical, good-rocking ass-shaker.”
“It was amazing working with Todd again, and I think we were able to evoke the special sound of our first album and drag it by the hair into the present.”— David Johansen

Gain 2 Ultra Analog 180 Gram Vinyl LP - Sealed

For the follow up to their classic 1988 debut Surfer Rosa, the Pixies brought in producer Gil Norton (Echo & The Bunnyment, Patty Smith, Foo Fighters) and the results were equally as brilliant if not superior to its predecessor. Doolittle boasted a cleaner sound and received excellent reviews, which led to greater exposure in America. Both a benchmark and a timeless monument, the album brazenly mixes surf-pop and grunge, with schizophrenic pacing and head banging jolts. Cited as one of the quintessential alternative rock albums of the '80s by Rolling Stone, Doolittle is undoubtedly one of the most epic and influential indie rock albums of all time. Highlights include "Monkey Gone To Heaven," "Wave Of Mutilation," "Here Comes Your Man," "Debaser" and "Hey" among others.

 Kill City
Iggy Pop and James Williamson
$14.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed Pink Vinyl
|
Released on Bomp in 1977, Kill Ciy captures Iggy Pop in a rare moment of vulnerability and few can argue that in terms of the quality of material and the strength of Iggy's voice, that this is indeed an overlooked achievement. Kill City opened the door to the wealth of other rare Stooges material that followed. It's also unique in Iggy's career, coming from a period following the breakup of the Stooges when his life was in disarray and his songs, as a result, expressed a personal angst never quite equaled again. The vinyl version has been out of print for a couple of years and this new pressing is on pink vinyl, limited to 800 copies.

200 Gram JAPANESE HQ Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

CSNY's First Album In Nearly A Decade!
CSNY provided much of the soundtrack for the antiwar movement of the Vietnam era, and four decades later, they’re doing it again. In 2006, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young reunited for the Freedom Of Speech Tour. In 2008, they premiered CSNY/Déjà Vu, a feature-length documentary based on that controversial tour and now the only place to hear those impassioned performances is here on this Double 200g edition of CSNY/Déjà Vu Live! A mix of CSNY classics and more recent antiwar material from Neil Young, CSNY/Déjà Vu Live marks the return to the socio-political stage of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young in a musical déjà vu!
CSNY made its debut with 1970’s #1 Déjà Vu, seven-times platinum, but then broke up, though the double live 4 Way Street followed in 1971 and went #1 and quadruple platinum. A 1974 summer reunion tour inspired the live compilation So Far, #1 and six times platinum. They returned once more with 1988’s platinum studio disc American Dream. After another hiatus, they were back with 1999’s Looking Forward. CSNY/Déjà Vu Live is the foursome’s first album in nearly a decade.
This vinyl release features two 200g black vinyl discs, pressed at Furnace (in Japan) and packaged in a paper-wrapped Stoughton gatefold jacket.

Besides several Hendrix blues-based originals, it includes covers of Albert King and Muddy Waters classics, as well as a 1967 acoustic version of his composition "Hear My Train A-Comin'."

 Stormbringer (35th Anniversary Edition)
Deep Purple
$29.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Stormbringer falls short of the excellence of Machine Head and Who Do We Think We Are, but nonetheless boasts some definite classics -- including the fiery "Lady Double Dealer," the ominous title song (a goth metal treasure), the sweaty "High Ball Shooter," and the melancholy ballad "Soldier of Fortune." Most of the other songs on the decent, if uneven, Stormbringer (which Metal Blade reissued on CD in the early '90s) are not essential. Like Come Taste the Band, Stormbringer will be of interest to Deep Purple's more enthusiastic fans, rather than casual listeners who would be much better off starting out with either of the above-mentioned studio projects or the live Made in Japan. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
2009 digitally remastered double vinyl LP 35th anniversary edition of the veteran British Hard Rockers' 1974 album comes with a crisp new remaster. Stormbringer was the ninth studio album by Deep Purple, originally released in November 1974. (and featuring the Mark 3 line-up of the band that included David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass) this album, much more prominently featured the soul and funk elements that were only hinted at on previous album Burn. Tom Waits, raconteur, poet, singer, pianist, writer, genius and one-man revivalist of a bygone world, in a 1978 concert from Austin, Texas. Trailblazing sould man Booker T. Jones has written the most audacious chapter of his career with Potato Hole, his first solo album in decades, and the natural evolution of his groundbreaking work leading Booker T. and the MGs. Far
Regina Spektor
$20.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Far is the highly anticipated follow-up to Regina Spektor's gold album Begin to Hope. Far continues to reveal new layers in Spektor's songwriting as she pursues the next level in her inimitable musical style. With her uninhibited imagination and her hands-on approach in the studio, Far not only succeeds with 13 impressive and accessible tracks, but it spotlights Spektor's remarkable gift to craft intelligent and refreshingly honest odes to life. Four exceptional producers collaborated with Spektor on Far: Jeff Lynne (ELO, The Traveling Wilburys), Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem), David Kahne (Paul McCartney, The Strokes) and Garret "Jacknife" Lee (Weezer, R.E.M.).
Spektor's ability to explore rich soundscapes and combine them with her evocative and intricately structured melodies and lyrics has grown tremendously on Far. From the gripping lyrics of the first single, "Laughing With" to the intoxicating beat of "The Calculation," from the multi-layered vocal work on "Blue Lips" to the rocking "Eet," Far is the work of a talented, daring and important artist.

One Foot In The Grave: Expanded Edition
Beck
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
This 15th Anniversary Expanded Edition of Beck's One Foot In The Grave features the original album remastered, plus 16 bonus tracks including 13 previously unreleased recordings. Also includes songs from the "It's All In Your Mind" single.
Recorded before Mellow Gold, One Foot In The Grave showcases Beck as a postmodern folkie, and the results are revelatory. Stripped of the intoxicating production that dominated Mellow Gold, Beck’s songs prove to be wonderful, vibrant tunes, teeming with emotion, haunting wordplay, and simple, memorable melodies. It’s alternately haunting and jubilant, and Calvin Johnson’s occasional harmonies lend the record an intimate warmth. It’s a gentle record, and its collection of small gems are every bit as impressive as the songs on Mellow Gold or its 1996 follow-up, Odelay.

The news that they've pooled their inordinate talents to one collective whole quickly spread across the Internet last year. The fact that they've succeeded artistically beyond anyone's wildest dreams is all the more reason to celebrate. Nick Drake's final album, Pink Moon, is the record that made Drake the cult figure he remains today. Recorded over two late nights in November of 1971, the intimate album features a captivating and stirring Drake alone on vocals, acoustic guitar and piano. On Tour With Eric Clapton
Delaney And Bonnie And Friends
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In the late '60s and early '70s, Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett played vibrant, country-tinged blues-rock that also owed a heavy debt to gritty Memphis R&B. And while their singing and playing were consistently top-notch, their profile was not weakened by their association with Eric Clapton, who toured with them between his stint in Blind Faith and the formation of Derek and the Dominos. In fact, when considering Clapton's musical evolution, it seems clear that the rootsy, downhome vibe of Delaney & Bonnie was a direct influence on the direction of his solo career. This excellent live set showcases Delaney & Bonnie's superb vocal performances and Clapton's superior guitar playing. Whether on the driving, Stax-style soul ("Things Get Better") or good old rock & roll (Little Richard medley), the band which consists of some of the finest musicians of the day, tears it up.

Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The NIght)
Yusuf/Cat Stevens
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
With his reintroduction to the pop world behind him, renowned singer-songwriter Yusuf (the artist known as Cat Stevens) is ready to once again strike up an intimate relationship with his audience. After retreating from the pop stage following classic '70s multi-platinum albums such as Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat and acclaimed hits such as "Wild World," "Peace Train," "Moonshadow," "Morning Has Broken" and "Father And Son," Yusuf returned in late 2006 with his first pop album in 28 years. Now he's back again with a second album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night).
"I was absent from my audience for so long," Yusuf says, "people thought another album would never come. The 2006 album, An Other Cup, was a surprise. With this new album, the distance is much less. I'm back to doing what I do best, painting pictures with music and storytelling on a very human, personal, intuitive level through lyrics and song, so I can help people feel good again. I guess in some ways the new album picks up where the Cat Stevens the public knows left off."
The album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night), was produced by the now singularly named Yusuf with help from Martin Terefe (James Morrison, Jason Mraz, Martha Wainwright), and recorded around the world. Guests include Morrison, Michelle Branch and Holly Williams (granddaughter of Hank Williams, Sr.).
"The new album is a response to the way An Other Cup was received," Yusuf explains. "Fans said they wanted to hear more of me with a guitar. So, this album is much more folk-tale oriented. Also, apart from one track, all of it was recorded live. I listened to a lot of' '70s L.A. music, such as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carole King, and it inspired me to go back into that intimate style of recording. The songs are somewhat autobiographical but abstract enough so everyone can relate to them and connect them to their own lives."
The title track, "Roadsinger," unfolds the tale of an outcast who revisits his old hometown; along the empty street a child peeks from behind a store window and gives an innocent smile out of the shadows of prejudice. "The theme of a journey has always been big with me," says Yusuf. A journey that was unexpectedly cut short in 2004 was when Yusuf was flying from his London home to Washington, D.C., en route to a meeting with Dolly Parton, who had recorded "Peace Train" several years earlier and wanted Yusuf to play guitar on her cover of his "Where Do the Children Play." The incident that made headlines was resolved in 2006 and Yusuf's new song "Boots and Sand" resulted.
"There are plenty people who sing, but not enough who have walked far from their block," he says. I embraced an unexpected spiritual path that was confusing for many (converting to Islam in 1977). "Sadly, I'm still often misunderstood. Some people want to put me into their own one-sided view, but I don't fit those limitations. My world is still borderless and wide. The removal of conflict and establishment of peace has always been my global objective. It's a shame that lot of people, including some Muslims, overlook the name Islam, which actually comes from the word 'Peace' in Arabic."
The forthcoming album also showcases some songs from his upcoming musical Moonshadow. The story takes place on a planet of perpetual night where only the moon's shine lights the darkness; it is about a boy's meeting with his Moonshadow and the adventures they share in search for the a world of the sunlight and happiness. As well as having many new songs, the surrealistic musical, Moonshadow also weaves classic songs from his past, including "Morning Has Broken," "Wild World" and "The First Cut Is The Deepest."
Yusuf's return to his guitar came about when his teenage artist-musician son, Muhammad (aka Yoriyos), brought one home again. One morning, Yusuf was alone in the lounge when he looked over and felt a draw of curiosity overtake him. He slowly picked it up. "I put my fingers on the fretboard to make a 'C' chord," he remembers, "and surprised myself, It's still there! It felt right. So I started playing again." On the forthcoming album, Yusuf even plays electric guitar on a couple of tracks, along with keyboards. "This part of my career feels similar in one sense to when I began," Yusuf reflects. "I had to get past the songs on Mona Bone Jakon before I could move on to Tea For The Tillerman, etc. This time around it was the same story: I laid the groundwork with my debut album, An Other Cup, which inspired a great new collection of songs and scribblings. I had quite a few in my back pocket and again it was my son who sparked the next step. He said, 'Isn't it time to start recording a new album?' And it was."
