 All For You
Diana Krall
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
On this salute to pianist/vocalist extraordinaire Nat King Cole, Diana Krall has a lot to live up to, presenting a group of compositions that are ingrained in the public's memory as part of a lasting legacy of both jazz and pop music. It's to her credit that she went about this intimidating task with a resourcefulness and quiet grace that makes All For You an exceptional tribute. A majority of All For You features Krall in an appropriately unadorned trio setting wonderfully capturing the essence of the Cole trio's arrangements. Krall swings hard with guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Paul Keller on "I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm" and "Hit That Jive Jack," often employing Cole trio devices such as repeated unison figures and on-top-of-the-beat eighth notes on bass. Krall's own sultry, understated singing and crisp, straightforward piano is distinctive enough to cast a fine new light on these classic songs. Here on 180g Double Vinyl!
1. I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm
2. Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You
3. You Call It Madness
4. Frim Fram Sauce
5. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
6. Baby Baby All The Time
7. Hit That Jive Jack

 My Aim Is True
Elvis Costello
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Elvis Costello’s remarkable My Aim Is True announces the arrival of a singular talent. Having long ago secured its status as one of the greatest debut albums ever recorded, the 1977 set hasn’t lost any of the vibrant urgency, lyrical edge, or biting wit that made Costello the pin-up model for new-wave music.
Blending punk-fueled motivation with pub-rock, reggae, and classic American rock n’ roll strains, the landmark effort includes many of the singer’s best-known and most beloved tunes: the poisoned ballad “Alison,” voyeuristic “Watching the Detectives,” slinky “(The Angels Want to Wear My) Red Shoes,” and rave-up “Mystery Dance” included. There isn’t a bad note here.
The history behind My Aim Is True is as rich as the songs. Before landing at then-fledgling English indie label Stiff Records, Costello had been laboring as a computer operator housed next door to a lipstick factory. The conditions couldn’t be riper for the cynical blue-collar observations and fierce humor that pierce tracks like “Welcome to the Working Week” and “Less Than Zero.” Costello took inspiration from London subway rides, venomous politics, and surrounding vanity. Having been rejected by what he estimated amounted to every other label in the city, Costello began calling in sick to his day job in order to record material for what become My Aim Is True.
Made for just 1000 pounds and over the course of four six-hour sessions, the experience found Costello recording his parts in a room the size of a telephone booth. His backing band—Clover, not the Attractions (save for on “Watching the Detectives,” left off the original UK release)—rounded out the slinky, melodic songs with spare details such as fuzztone pedal steel guitar and organ. The minimal budget ensured that nothing extra or fancy was employed. Overdubs weren’t really an option; what was played is basically what you hear.
Notorious for being reissued umpteen times, Mobile Fidelity is thrilled to present the one edition of My Aim Is True that every fan needs to own. Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes—not from copies as so many other versions are—and pressed on 180-gram vinyl, this numbered limited-edition LP is the definitive My Aim Is True. No compromises, no tricks. Just the music delivered with peerless clarity, purity, and transparency. The rawness of Costello’s voice, jangle of the rhythms, hum of the organs, and even the impact of the drumsticks have never been experienced with such realism. This is what organic-sounding albums are supposed to sound like. You will hear this again for the first time. And of course, there's the iconic cover art, presented in full-scale perspective.
Track Listing:
1. "Welcome To The Working Week"
2. "Miracle Man"
3. "No Dancing"

Live At The It Club (Mosaic Records)
Thelonious Monk
$99.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 4 LPs
|
The Thelonious Monk Quartet with Charlie Rouse lasted 11 years. October 31 and November 1, 1964 at the It Club in Los Angeles showcase Monk at particular high point pianistically; in fact, he went into a Los Angeles studio and recorded the album Solo Monk on the afternoons preceding and following the live taping. He is in full force throughout, but his playing is particularly superb on the standards "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" and the previously unreleased "Sweet And Lovely."
The band plays standards, many of Monk's famous tunes, a few lesser known items like "Gallop's Gallop" and "Blues Five Spot" and the recent compositions "Teo" and "Bright Mississippi." Propelled by Gales and Riley, Monk and Rouse deliver amazing 10-minute excursions on such Monk classics as "Nutty," "Rhythm-a-ning" and "Blue Monk."
Rouse in his sixth year with Monk had hit his stride, truly becoming Monk's musical alter ego. Remarkably, drummer Ben Riley had joined the quartet at the beginning of 1964 and bassist Larry Gales had only logged in a month at the time of this taping; yet they already show the first signs of collective greatness on these evenings.
Mosaic has returned to the original three-track tapes and mixed them down to beautiful sounding analog stereo masters, presenting the six sets they played that night as they happened.
Track Listing:
1. Blue Monk
2. Well, You Needn’t
3. ‘Round Midnight
4. Rhythm-a-ning
5. Epistrophy (theme- Saturday set one)

 Bleach
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Colored - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Marking the 20th Anniversary of Nirvana's debut album, Bleach, Sub Pop is reissuing the groundbreaking set in expanded and remastered form. This deluxe double-LP includes a never-before-released live performance, special packaging, and the first run will be on 180g white vinyl (the first run of the original LP was also on white vinyl).
Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, Bleach was released in June of 1989 and remains unequivocally and unsurprisingly Sub Pop's very favorite Nirvana full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of the group's 1991 sophomore effort, Nevermind. Subsequently, Bleach has gone on to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone.
This 20th Anniversary Edition has been remastered from the original tapes at Sterling Sound in a session overseen by Endino. The bonus tracks comprise an unreleased live recording of a complete February 9th, 1990 show at Portland's Pine Street Theatre and features performances of "Love Buzz," "About a Girl," and a cover of The Vaselines song "Molly's Lips." Like the studio album, the concert has also been remixed from the original tapes by Endino.

 After The Gold Rush
Neil Young
$22.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
Now Shipping - To Arrive No Earlier Than 11/23!
|
The second of three consecutive masterpieces Neil Young recorded between 1969 and 1972, After the Gold Rush captures the vibes, emotions, and cautious optimism of the era better than any album of its time. Moreover, it contains a host of impeccably written and performed songs that transcend the period and stand as an inextricable part of the American conscious.
Recorded at Young’s Topanga Canyon Ranch and featuring backing from the legendary Crazy Horse, the then-unknown prodigy Nils Lofgren, and several other friends, the 1970 album embraces many of the seemingly artistic contradictions and eccentric diversity that have made Young so peerless. The title track, a devastatingly gorgeous balladic meditation on the '60s and a warning of what may come in the 1970s, proved prophetic. Every other song is equally spectacular and significant.
The bristling whip-crack of “Southern Man” furthered Young’s no-holds-barred political commentary and prompted a response song in the form of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” an anthem that its target praised. The country heartache of “Oh, Lonesome Me” simultaneously plays off and into the romantic spirit of the uplifting “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” and the exuberant romp of “When You Dance You Can Really Love.” In one swoop, Young and company traverse the Heartland, Southern plantations, Appalachian valleys, and Los Angeles hills.
Having languished for decades, this masterwork (named as one of the '100 Best Albums of All-Time' by Rolling Stone) has finally received the long-overdue sonic treatment it’s deserved. Remastered from the original tapes by Young’s expert team and overseen by the artist himself, After the Gold Rush now sounds better than ever. Young has never sounded so immediate, detailed, rich, or present on a studio album.
The record joins 1968's Neil Young, 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and 1972’s Harvest as part of the initial batch of Young recordings pristinely mastered from the original tapes, pressed on high-quality audiophile-grade LP, and packaged in sleeves that faithfully mirror those of the originals.

1. Tell Me Why

 Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Neil Young

A colossal effort that signifies his first collaboration with Crazy Horse, bar-none the best garage-rock support band ever assembled, Neil Young’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere explodes with loose electricity, country-influenced harmonies, and fervent interplay that took melodic rock music in then-unforeseen directions. Moving away from the mellow fare that distinguished his self-titled debut, the pioneering Canadian icon stretches out and showcases his penchant for unhinged guitar solos and drifting arrangements.
Having come across the Rockets while recording his first solo outing, Young spared no time in recruiting the band for his own purposes. With the trio of Danny Whitten, drummer Ralph Molina, and bassist Billy Talbot renamed Crazy Horse, and Young ready with an energetic collection of tunes that called out for longer instrumentals and raw tones, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was recorded in a scant two weeks time and just four months after Young’s prior effort.
His symbiotic chemistry with fellow kindred spirit and rhythm guitarist Whitten is evident on the drawn-out “Cowgirl In the Sand” and murderous “Down By the River,” both a tangle of rolling narratives, mysterious tension, amplified feedback, and longing emotion which remain staples in Young’s live repertoire. As does “Cinnamon Girl,” which is distinguished by one of the most famous and magnetic riffs of all time. At this stage of his career, Young had never written such an engaging and expressive set of songs and the album remains a landmark on which every tune is a classic.
Having languished for decades, this masterwork has finally received the long-overdue sonic treatment it’s needed. Remastered from the original tapes by Young’s expert team and overseen by the artist himself, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere now sounds better than ever. Young has never sounded so immediate, detailed, rich, or present on a studio album.

 Smokin'
Humble Pie
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

When Peter Frampton left Humble Pie, the band he co-founded, the group replaced him with fireball guitarist Clem Clemson. And Humble Pie grew a whole lot more raucous, more freewheeling and downright greasy. Their third album, the first with Clemson, is unquestionably their greatest with Steve Marriott's soulful wail totally unleashed. Smokin' yielded the group's most memorable anthem - "30 Days In The Hole." Stephen Still guests on some funky Hammond organ on "Road Runner 'G' Jam." Cut from the original analog masters with the most intense attention paid to every minute detail, this reissue is positively Smokin'!

|
Neil Young's career defining fourth solo effort Harvest spawned the folk classics, “Heart of Gold” and “Old Man,” as well as the affecting “The Needle and the Damage Done,” and it went on to become the best-selling record of 1972 and one of Rolling Stone’s '100 Greatest Albums of All-Time.' While firmly rooted in old-timey country and traditional music, the record ventures beyond conventional pastures and incorporates stabbing guitar-driven swamp (“Alabama”), hayride jigs (“Are You Ready for the Country?”), and orchestral pop (“There’s A World”) into its broad sonic swath.
Young’s lyrics here are extraordinarily reflective and poignant. He’s got love on his mind, and yet his emotions run the gamut. The music is both a release and a meditation, the stripped-down structures and economical playing conspiring to deliver maximum feeling and slow-burn impact that one never forgets.
The album features the likes of steel-guitarist Ben Keith, bassist Tim Drummond, pianist/arranger Jack Nitzsche, and drummer Kenny Buttrey, as well as a who's who of background vocalists that includes none other than David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, and James Taylor.
Having languished for decades, this bonafide masterpiece has finally received the long-overdue sonic treatment it has needed. Remastered from the original tapes by Young’s expert team and overseen by the artist himself, Harvest now sounds better than ever. Young has never sounded so close, lifelike, palpable, or three-dimensional on a studio album.
The record joins 1968's Neil Young, 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and 1970’s After the Gold Rush as part of the initial batch of Young recordings pristinely mastered from the original tapes, pressed on high-quality audiophile-grade LP, and packaged in sleeves that faithfully mirror those of the originals. For Harvest, this means a paper stock that you need to feel to believe.

4. Heart Of Gold
5. Are You Ready For The Country?

 Live In Paris
Frank Sinatra
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Live In Paris is Frank Sinatra’s definitive concert album. Yes, there are many good ones—Sinatra at the Sands is also among the finest—but none better captures the essence of the singer’s voice, showmanship, and command than this 1962 session, which remained unreleased until 1994. Backed only by a sextet, the main focus here is on Sinatra’s peerless singing, phrasing, and style. Needless to say, the iconic crooner doesn’t disappoint.
It’s impossible to overstate the magnificence of the interpretations on this set. Looking for the ultimate renditions of “My Funny Valentine,” “In the Still of the Night,” “One for My Baby,” “Night and Day,” and “Ol’ Man River”? Search no more. Sinatra’s readings of these classics exceed his superb studio versions, as well as those that appear on other live albums. And consider the setlist: “The Lady is a Tramp,” “Come Fly With Me,” “Chicago,” “I Could Have Danced All Night.” Superb. And Sinatra is simply “on,” bringing a combination of swinging enthusiasm, reverent charm, and dignified emotion to standards. He triumphs with a powerful voice yet affected by the ravages of time and cigarettes.
Fans of Sinatra at the Sands should take note. Sinatra in Paris is much more intimate, with the scaled-down arrangements and small band allowing songs to bask in the glory of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ voice. Yes, Sinatra’s period onstage comments can seem crude. But they take nothing away from the sheer superiority of this recording.
Ever since its release, the lone drawback to Sinatra in Paris has been that of the inferior sound quality. Lament the shortcoming no more. Half-speed mastered from the original tapes and pressed onto two slabs of quiet 180-gram vinyl, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition 2-LP set lifts the veil on the music and allows it to soar with a richness, texture, openness, and presence that have until now gone missing. You will swoon over the improvements.

 Black Gives Way To Blue
Alice In Chains
$19.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The new Alice In Chains album Black Gives Way To Blue is the sound of a new beginning of a legendary band returning to life. Right from the album’s powerful and deeply meaningful opener “All Secrets Known” through its redemptive closing title track, Black Gives Way To Blue, the first new Alice In Chains album in more than 14 years, is not just another rock reunion, but something far more inspiring.
Alice In Chains always was and always will be very much a band. So after taking a more than respectful break to mourn the loss of their brother and band mate Layne Staley, the surviving members of Alice In Chains, Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez, gradually began to make music again. The band came together for the first time in 2005 to take part in a benefit for the victims of the tsunami in Indonesia.
The following year, Cantrell, Kinney and Inez decided that the time was right for Alice In Chains to reclaim its legacy again on tour. They did so with the help of a new guitarist and vocalist William DuVall, a gifted singer and player in his own right from Atlanta who previously worked with Neon Christ, Comes with the Fall, and as part of Jerry Cantrell’s touring band. As live audiences discovered, DuVall brings a sound and stage presence all his own. Yet when DuVall and Cantrell blend their voices, as Cantrell and Staley did so often, there could be little doubt that the spirit of Alice In Chains was once again alive and well.
Black Gives Way To Blue is the next step for a group that over the course of their career earned multiple Grammy nominations and sold more than 19 million albums worldwide and achieved 11 Top Ten singles. At the same time, the album offers the full, bracing impact of Alice In Chains, a band that kept heavy rock exciting at the dawn of the '90s and helped set the stage for an even grungier Seattle sound still clearly firing on all cylinders.
Recording on Black Gives Way To Blue began in October of 2008 at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Northridge and finished at Henson Studios in Hollywood. The band produced the album with Nick Raskulinecz, whose past credits include Foo Fighters and Rush. Black Gives Way To Blue combines some classic Alice In Chains textures with a renewed sense of energy and possibility, from the epic and fantastically electric rocker “A Looking In View” to the exquisite and romantic ballad “Your Decision” to the album’s stunning first single “Check My Brain,” a throbbing rocker in which a band associated with the Pacific Northwest makes a wry and witty observation on working and living in California.
Through Black Gives Way To Blue, there is a deep sense of the unique life that this band has lived, of “Lesson Learned,” to borrow the title of another standout track. In the end, the album offers a kind of shared group autobiography by a band that has survived so much. Together, they are in a way “Last Of My Kind,” to use the title of another album highlight penned by Jerry Cantrell, long a dominant songwriter within Alice In Chains, with lyrics from DuVall. “Imitations are pale,” DuVall and Cantrell sing together on “Black Gives Way To Blue,” a brand new Alice In Chains classic that really has it all; the brooding hurt, the brute force and the beautiful introspection.

1. All Secrets Known

4. Your Decision
5. A Looking In View
6. When The Sun Rose Again

 Sea Change
Beck
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Beck’s Sea Change remains the best record of the indie icon’s career. And how. The sonic chameleon shocked the world in 2002 with this warm-sounding folk-pop album—a sincere, honest, and mature meditation on the end of a nine-year relationship with his girlfriend. As for the vocalist’s trademark irony, sarcasm, and humor? Not here. In their place is an affecting emotionalism to which anyone who’s ever been in (or out) of love will relate. The music is equally personal and meditative. Gorgeous string arrangements come courtesy of his father, David Campbell, and illustrate the heartbreak that informs the beautiful melodies and tranquil moods.
Best of all, this album is anything but a bummer. Intending to be heard to from start to finish, Beck begins the record with songs conveying emptiness and loss, and gradually moves on to narratives that detail what changes are necessary to regain a sense of identity, purpose, and feeling. By the time he reaches the concluding “Little One,” the healing has begun. Consider this Beck’s mellowest gold—a feat confirmed by its selection as the #2 record of 2002 on Village Voice’s all-encompassing Pazz & Jop poll.
And now, thanks to truly painstaking remastering efforts, this embraceable and intimate gem sounds better than ever. No lie. Master tapes of every cut were delivered to Mobile Fidelity engineers on a separate reel, with the finished product taking months to perfect. Unlike previous digital versions, no compression or dynamic processing was used, making this half-speed mastered 180-gram 2-LP set not just the definitive version — it’s the only analog version worth owning!

While Hendrix remains most famous for his hard rock and psychedelic innovations, more than a third of his recordings were blues-oriented. Besides several Hendrix blues-based originals, it includes covers of Albert King and Muddy Waters classics, as well as a 1967 acoustic version of his composition "Hear My Train A-Comin'."

 Bitches Brew
Miles Davis
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

The mercurial Bitches Brew is thought by many to be one of the most revolutionary albums in jazz history, having virtually created the genre known as jazz-rock fusion. Miles adds to his In A Silent Way concept here with soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, additional drums and percussion, plus African, Indian and Brazilian instruments. The result was unlike any music heard before or since. A complete rejection of traditional songs, chord progressions, or even melodic conventions, the album signified that music could be just layers of texture and sound. Bitches Brew is not just an important recording, it's an essential one!

 A Love Supreme
John Coltrane
$16.99 $15.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
This album is pure and raw Jazz. Every song demonstrates Coltrane's prowess on the sax. In one word this album is 'emotion.' Coltrane seems to poor his whole heart into this project. All the players are in peak performance mode and it shows as each take their turn demonstrating their talents. On the track titled "Resolution" McCoy Tyner struts his stuff on the piano, and Coltrane makes his sax literally cry. I would consider this one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time.
Historically speaking, this was one of only two albums that Coltrane recorded all year in 1964. Coltrane's other album that year was titled "Crescent." "Love Supreme" was awarded gold status by 1970 and I can see why, it is a great album.
The beginning of "Pursuance/Part 4 - Psalm" is a drum set that is wonderful and then Coltrane comes screaming into the song with a wonderful brassy sax sound. This is followed by Tyner who is all over the keys of the piano. This last track is pure and raw emotional jazz.
This album could hold a slot next to Miles Davis' work titled "Kind of Blue." The album is dedicated to God, whom Coltrane says in the inserts, is the "Love Supreme." If you don't have this album then you are missing one of the greatest Jazz album's ever recorded. Get it and see why all the reviews below rave on about this masterpiece.
Part 1 - Acknowledgement
Part 2 - Resolution
Part 3 - Pursuance
Part 4 - Psalm

 Discwasher D4 Vinyl Record Cleaner
$21.99 $19.99
|
A favorite among collectors for many years. Use the brush dry or wet with the included 1.25 oz. fluid. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris.
The D4+ Record Care System is the result of intensive scientific research on safe record cleaning. The D4+ System is a cleaning system unlike other products, which reduce record dynamics and fidelity. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris. Containing less residue than tap water, D4+ fluid will clean without depositing new residues on the record surface; it will not encourage any biological growth as do "constantly damp" cleaning methods.
For longer life, Discwasher recommends that records be lightly cleaned each time before playing. New records should also be cleaned before their first play. Although presumed clean, many new recordings still have mold release compounds in their grooves, thus requiring cleaning.
HAND CRAFTED
The handle of the Discwasher D4+ Record Care System has been hand crafted and finished from solid American walnut, creating elegance for an already superior cleaner.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ROUTINE PRE-PLAY CLEANING
Application
Apply 3-6 drops of the D4+ fluid in a line on the leading edge of the pad (the arrow on the end of the handle points to the leading edge). Distribute the fluid along the leading edge of the pad using several deliberate strokes with the bottom of the D4 bottle, causing the pad to form a strip of damp fabric.
Position
Position the disc washer handle/pad with the arrow end on the outside edge of the record. Gently contact the record with the damp leading edge of the pad. The turntable motor may be assisted by gently turning the record with you finger on the label.
Clean/Dry
Allow the damp leading edge to contact the record for about three revolutions. Dry the record with a simple rolling movement of the handle, allowing for the middle and back edge to contact the album for several revolutions, assuring thorough drying.
D4+ Record Care System.
- Simply the finest record cleaner available.
- Cleans records while retaining fidelity.
- 1.25 fl. oz. D4 recording cleaning fluid.
- D4 pad with solid walnut handle, and convenient storage case.

 What's Going On

Gain 2 Ultra Analog 180 Gram Vinyl LP - Sealed

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has obtained the master tapes of this landmark album and for the first time What’s Going On will be released on 180g UTLRA ANALOG LP. As with all Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab releases, meticulous attention to detail is paid during the transfer process.
Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On was a landmark recording and is considered one of the greatest albums ever made. Rolling Stone named it Album Of The Year when it came out and, in 2003, it was ranked number 6, the highest for a non-rock album, in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. Originally, the title cut was recorded as a single, and Motown chief Berry Gordy refused to release it, citing that it was too personal and political. "What's Going On" became Motown's fastest-selling single at that point, going to the number one spot on the R&B charts for five weeks and number two for three weeks on the Pop listings, which lead Gordy to request a full album's worth of material.
“What's Going On”, the single, was recorded in June of 1970. The remainder of the album was recorded in March-May of 1971 and was released on May 21st of that year. It was produced entirely by Marvin Gaye.

 Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane
Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
John Coltrane's development as an improviser accelerated in the mid-1950s when he was with Miles Davis. During six months of 1957 with Thelonious Monk in a celebrated engagement at New York's Five Spot Cafe, it went into overdrive. Coltrane said later, "Working with Monk brought me close to a musical architect of the highest order. I felt I learned from him in every way - through the senses, theoretically, technically." Because of the artists' conflicting contractual agreements, Jazzland (Riverside's sister label) was unable to capture the Monk quartet live a the Five Spot. Producer Orrin Keepnews managed to record three studio tracks that did not see the light of day until the sixties. "Ruby, My Dear," "Trinkle, Tinkle" and "Nutty" let us hear what all the excitement was about. "Off Minor" and "Epistrophy" find Monk and Coltrane in a septet that included the great Coleman Hawkins. This record also includes "Functional," an unforgettable Monk solo blues.

 Surfer Rosa
Pixies
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The Plymouth Rock on which alternative rock was founded, the Pixies’ Surfer Rosa forever altered the music environment—even if it did take most of the world a few years to catch up with its brilliance. Internationally acknowledged as a pioneering record, its rollercoaster blend of harsh and soft tempos, male and female singing, intense punk and bubblegum pop tones, dark and light quips, and off-kilter sensibilities is the influential equivalent of the Velvet Underground’s oft-cited 1967 debut.
The 1987 debut established the Pixies as otherworldly visionaries whose songs such as the insistent “Bone Machine,” badgering “Something Against You,” and sensual “Cactus” remain ahead of the curve. Having analog fanatic and noise aficionado Steve Albini working production ensured that the music would retain a requisite rawness and in-your-face sonic signature that paralleled the fundamentally chaotic, compulsive characteristics of the Pixies’ songs.
And now, thanks to the painstaking efforts of Mobile Fidelity engineers, you will truly hear this groundbreaking record as if you were experiencing it for the first time. Vivid, immediate, massive, and detailed, this is how Surfer Rosa was meant to be heard when Albini completed it and turned it into the label.
Why pay $175 for the Pixies’ Minotaur limited-edition box that features the band’s four original records with dated (read: bland, compressed, and flat) sound when you can spend far less and, in addition to this superior 180-gram LP copy, get hybrid SACDs of Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, and Bossanova that play in all CD players and feature remastered sound sourced from the original master tapes? Jeff Anderson, who oversaw the release of Minotaur, says there is no remastering on the box because he didn’t want to touch the original master tapes. We did, and having finally hunted the true masters down, know you’ll agree with our results.
“The heaviness and hugeness of the room-reverberating drumbeat that begins the album-opening “Bone Machine” epitomizes the record’s forward impact, visceral punch, grinding crunch, and dynamic headroom. Rather than cluttering the mix with an avalanche of effects, Albini left space without sacrificing live detail or volatile oomph, shown to great effect on “Broken Face,” “Gigantic (there’s a piano—who knew?), and haunting “Where Is My Mind?,” which opens unto a sonic canyon that swallows the listener whole.” –Bob Gendron, The Absolute Sound, September 2007

Originally released on the Beserkley label in 1976 (though most of the material was recorded in 1973), The Modern Lovers is a universally accepted proto-punk classic. It's an album that bridges the gap between The Velvet Underground, a band whom leader Jonathan Richman was obsessed with, and the first wave of punk rock. While also displaying the goofy wit that would later be Richman's signature, The Modern Lovers is equal parts geeky, emotional, angst driven, life affirming, and, from start to finish, absolutely brilliant.

 Transatlanticism
Death Cab For Cutie
$49.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Import
As musical lunacy goes, things have gotten as crazy as it gets for Death Cab for Cutie since 2002's You Can Play These Songs with Chords compilation. A wildly successful tour with Dismemberment Plan, a collaboration for singer Ben Gibbard with emo-electronic guru Dntel under the Postal Service moniker, and a whole new legion of fans swooning to Gibbard's lyrics as if he were a modern day answer to Kiss Me-era Robert Smith have all amassed considerable hype around Transatlanticism. But the group proves themselves more than equal to the task, answering the call and proving the cynics wrong with their most focused and most mature work in their entire catalog. Transatlanticism wastes absolutely no time and dives in head first with "The New Year," one of the most melodramatic openings to an album since the Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight" from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The mellow, mixed-meter percussion and dense atmosphere of "Lightness" is a brilliant lead into the pop-happy "Expo '86" and "The Sound of Settling" before setting up the climatic and intensely dramatic title track. Unconsciously taking a page from Blur's "Sing," the hypnotic drumming and guitar call and responses through the eight-minute climax of the album are backed with a singalong finale that unquestionably will have every audience on the next tour singing along and holding up their lighters. And while most albums would be left exhausted after such a track, the group keeps things moving, albeit at a much slower pace than compared to the anthems that packed the first half. Gibbard seamlessly makes the transition between songs that full out rock to songs that are comparable to Elliott Smith's finest hour with great ease. But it's Gibbard's poetic lyrics and signature introspection that remain a bench mark for Death Cab; and it's the group's maturity as musicians as well as songwriters that make Transatlanticism such a decadently good listen from start to finish. The band has never sounded more cohesive, the track sequencing is brilliant, and it caps off a triumphant year for not only Gibbard, but a band whose time and greater recognition is finally due. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide

Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970
Leonard Cohen
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Leonard Cohen Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 is a fascinating and timely portrait of the artist as a young man, just three years into his recording career (though he was already a published poet and novelist for 15 years). As he mesmerizes the Isle Of Wight audience, Cohen intersperses a baker's dozen songs with tales both real and apocryphal, as well as a handful of his poems.
This double 180g vinyl LP edition of Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 represents the 77-minute concert set as performed by Cohen and his backup band: Bob Johnston (Cohen's Nashville-based Columbia A&R staff producer), and Nashville musicians Charlie Daniels (electric bass, fiddle), Ron Cornelius (lead guitar), and Elkin 'Bubba' Fowler (bass, banjo). They were joined by backup singers Corlynn Hanney, Susan Musmanno, and Donna Washburn. During the course of their European tour, which Cohen only agreed to undertake if Johnston (producer of Cohen's most recent LP, Songs From A Room) would manage him and organize the band, the group began to call themselves The Army, owing to the battles they were subjected to by audiences on the road.
All but three of the songs on Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 originated on Cohen's first two LPs, his debut Songs Of Leonard Cohen from 1967 ("So Long, Marianne," "One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong," "The Stranger Song," "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye," "Suzanne"); and Songs From A Room from 1969 ("Bird On The Wire," "You Know Who I Am," "Tonight Will Be Fine," "The Partisan," "Seems So Long Ago, Nancy"). The three other songs "Diamonds In The Mine," "Sing Another Song Boys," and "Famous Blue Raincoat" were destined for Cohen's third album, 1971's Songs of Love and Hate.

 Self Portrait
Bob Dylan
$28.99
High-Definition Vinyl LP -2 LPs Sealed
|
One of the most controversial albums in Bob Dylan's remarkable catalog, the 1970 double-LP Self Portrait continues to exercise considerable fascination amongst Dylan devotees. Released on the heels of the artist's game changing Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait offered a quirky assortment of studio and live tracks, encompassing Dylan originals as well as covers of familiar pop and folk numbers, recorded with an all-star musical cast.
At the time of its original release, the sprawling, unconventional Self Portrait generated an immense amount of discussion and disagreement amonst Dylan admirers. The ongoing controversy surrounding the album has been fueled over the years by Dylan himself. At various times, Dylan has defended Self Portrait as a heartfelt artistic statement, dismissed it as a joke and described it as a concerted effort to escape the pressures of his unwanted status as the voice of a generation. Whatever the artist's actual intentions, Self Portrait retains a unique niche in the hearts of Dylan fans, and is often cited as an early landmark in the birth of alternative country.
Self Portrait's highlights include the Dylan originals "Wigwam," later featured in the Wes Anderson film The Royal Tenenbaums; "Living the Blues," subsequently covered by artists ranging from Leon Redbone to Antony Hegarty; and "The Mighty Quinn," which Manfred Mann had turned into a British Invasion hit in 1968. The latter song is one of a quartet of live tracks drawn from Dylan's legendary performances with The Band at the historic Isle of Wight festival, along with memorable versions of the Dylan standards "Like a Rolling Stone," "Minstrel Boy" and "She Belongs to Me." Also featured are Dylan's readings of a variety of outside material, ranging from his iconic interpretation of the rural folk song "Copper Kettle" to his distinctive takes on such familiar tunes as Paul Simon's "The Boxer," Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Mornin' Rain" and the vintage Every Brothers hits "Let It Be Me" and "Take a Message to Mary."
Sundazed has restored this one-of-a-kind release to its original double-LP format. Mastered from the original analog master tapes, the album is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl, with meticulously reproduced original gatefold cover art.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

One of the most enduring musical partnerships of our time, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) are revered for their peerless vocal harmonies, inspired songwriting and musical virtuosity. When the trio first sang together at a friend’s Laurel Canyon house in 1968, their uncanny harmonic convergence was immediately apparent, and CSN took shape. Each member came to the new venture from other high-profile bands, Crosby from the Byrds, Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Nash from the Hollies, and together they formed that rarest of musical entities, a supergroup that lived up to its billing.
CSN’s stunning 1969 self-titled debut album is one of the true masterpieces of the rock ’n’ roll canon. The album made it all the way to #6 on the Billboard charts and delivered two Top 40 Pop singles with “Marrakesh Express” and “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.” Also features the CSN classics “Guinnevere,” “Wooden Ships,” “Helplessly Hoping” and “Long Time Gone.”
“Crosby, Stills & Nash are a most important part of the brilliant history at Atlantic Records. The uniqueness of their vocal blend, as well as the uniqueness of each solo voice, made them the top vocal group in the world, and they are still today thrilling millions of fans they have accumulated over the years.” — Ahmet Ertegun

 Nevermind
Nirvana

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Remastered 180-Gram Pressing Cut from Original Master Tapes by Bernie Grundman and Pressed at RTI. This is THE Definitive Version of the Life-Altering 1991 Blockbuster Album!
Pressed on Dead-Quiet Blue-Colored Virgin Vinyl and Limited to Only 4000 Copies Worldwide!
Few records changed the world. Nirvana's Nevermind is one of them. Released in September 1991, the well-produced yet emotionally raw album catapulted grunge into the mainstream and forever altered the popular musical landscape, turning Nirvana into household names and singer Kurt Cobain into the reluctant spokesperson of his generation. By year’s end, Seattle-based music, fashion, and attitude consumed popular consciousness. Nevermind had restored the gritty passion, rebellious mentality, and cathartic power long missing from mainstream rock. Call it the mighty sword that in one swoop fell the excess, plasticity, and emptiness of 80s music.
The record’s impact is also be measured by the success of its singles. Named by Rolling Stone as the #9 Best Song of All Time, the anthemic “Smells Like Teen Spirit” became an institution on radio stations and MTV. Subsequent singles “Come As You Are,” “Lithium,” and “In Bloom” also testified to the genius of the soft-loud arrangements and whip-smart commentary on Nevermind, which at its core was a blockbuster pop album in punk clothing.
More than ten million copies later, the record has only picked up more accolades, having been included at or near the top of nearly every major publication’s Greatest Albums list. Nevermind is listed as:
#1 in Spin’s 90 Greatest Albums of the 90s
#1 Album of the Year in Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop Poll
#6 in Pitchfork’s Top 100 Albums of the 1990s
#17 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time
#1 in Entertainment Weekly’s Best Albums of the 90s
In addition to the groundbreaking music, sound quality has always been among the album’s finest aspects. Cleanly produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Andy Wallace, Nevermind features explosive dynamics, bursting tones, and a wide-open midrange. While Cobain later disparaged the sound as being too polished, the truth was that the room-filling sound allowed the record to grab the attention of anyone within earshot. Much imitated but never equaled, the sound became the template that nearly every band requested be put on their albums.
And it has never sounded better. Cut for ORG from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on blue-colored 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, ORG’s Limited Edition Collector’s Version is THE definitive edition of this masterpiece. WE GUARANTEE THIS BEATS EVERY PREVIOUS PRESSING. Dave Grohl’s titantic drumming, Cobain’s gut-wrenching screams and distortion-packed guitar riffs, and Krist Novoselic’s loopy bass lines all feature life-size imaging and incredible presence. Do not pass this up!

 MTV Unplugged In New York
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Recorded in November 1993, less than six months before singer Kurt Cobain killed himself, Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged is a watershed document that presents a band at the peak of its powers. Unlike any other “unplugged” affair, the diverse album is not a simple stripped-down regurgitation of greatest hits or a cash-it-in set of nostalgic favorites. Rather, the live effort is among the most emotionally naked spectacles ever released—an album so starkly intense and profoundly personal, it’s impossible not to get chills down the spine.
Such intimacy and wide-range dynamics are reasons why to seek out the best-ever pressing of this detailed gem. And we happen to be able to satisfy your needs. Cut for ORG from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on colored 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, ORG’s Limited Edition Collector’s Version is the definitive edition of this masterpiece. WE GUARANTEE THIS BEATS EVERY PREVIOUS PRESSING. Hear the soft pitter-patter of drummer Dave Grohl’s delicate brushwork, the shape of each hushed note coming from Cobain’s guitar, and every inhale and exhale of Cobain’s voice from a stunning, up-close perspective that puts the band onstage in your room.
Made primarily with acoustic instruments—Grohl even trades sticks for brushes, Krist Novoselic picks up an accordion, and cellist Lori Goldston prominently figures in the arrangements—Unplugged in New York reveals Nirvana’s folksier side and clear ambition to move beyond abrasive rock. The setlist is as surprising as the stylistic makeover. Save for renditions of “All Apologies” and “Come As You Are,” the adventurous material includes brooding covers of the Meat Puppets' “Lake of Fire,” “Plateau,” and “Oh Me” as well as harrowing versions of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World,” and the Vaselines’ “Jesus Don’t Want Me for a Sunbeam.”
And then there’s the heart-shattering climax. Intensely private and disturbingly primal, Nirvana’s rendition of the Leadbelly standard “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” takes its place among the most cathartic songs ever committed to record. It’s the musical equivalent of the insides of Cobain’s soul being ripped out and put out display for all to see.
Hurry! Limited to 4000 copies worldwide, these will go fast. Do not pass up this chance to own the Nirvana swan song that Rolling Stone named one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!

 In Utero
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
A reactionary statement to the phenomenal commercial success of Nevermind, In Utero remains Nirvana’s most noisy, caustic, uncompromised, and aggressive album. It’s also the band’s best, a brilliant combination of contagious hooks, feedback-drenched squalls, bruised beauty, and biting lyrical wit intended to blindside causal listeners with raw emotion, difficult listening, and painful honesty. Rife with medical imagery and references to disease, sickness, decay, and dismay, In Utero is the distraught sound of personal catharsis and unyielding trauma. More revealingly, the record doubles as a haunting foreshadowing of singer Kurt Cobain’s suicide that took place just months after its release.
Unhappy with the high-gloss production and pop-based arrangements on Nevermind, Nirvana set out to make a harsher album that would literally alienate millions. While the trio succeeded in its goal of getting intimate with blistering dissonance and acerbic tones, In Utero resonated with the public, debuting at #1 on the Billboard charts and ultimately selling more than four million copies. Echoing John Lennon, Cobain’s piercing songwriting spoke to the disaffected masses that shared his anguish and set new standards for ironic depth that still stand. For every unsettling screed (“Serve the Servants,” “Milk It,” “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter,” “Tourettes”) there are introspective moments of folk-inspired elegance (“All Apologies,” “Pennyroyal Tea,” “Dumb”) that hint at the direction in which Nirvana was headed.
In Utero is equally legendary for the controversies involving its production. Originally helmed by Steve Albini, an engineer known for capturing live ambience and natural tones, the album was eventually remixed by Scott Litt after the group complained about the vocal sound. While the exact specifics of what party demanded the redo remain blurry, the finished results are staggering, with the added harmonies, better bass definition, and vocal volume boosts achieving an ideal balance that satisfied the band’s wishes. Now, you can hear it like never before.
Do not pass up this rare chance to own the Nirvana classic that NPR “Sound Opinions” radio co-host Jim DeRogatis named the best alternative rock album of the 90s!

 Small Faces
Small Faces
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Nowadays the Small Faces are criminally overlooked and often thought of as only the preamble to the Faces and, of course, Rod Stewart. At the time of their debut's original release back in 1966 however, they were one of the absolute greatest rock bands in the UK, with the Who and Rolling Stones being their only real competition. And lead vocalist Steve Marriott could sing circles around both Jagger and Daltrey. Reissued here in all its soul-influenced garage-rock glory is the Small Faces masterful debut.

Highlights include "Strawberry Wine," "The Rumor," "The Shape I'm In" and the classic title track.
All 'From The Capitol Vaults' titles feature carefully replicated artwork and packaging true to their original single or gatefold jacket LP releases.

With his 1970 self-titled solo debut, Stephen Stills, like his CSN&Y bandmates, decided to explore other musical avenues. Stills offers up his trademark Southern California folk-pop sound here while incorporating the Latin, swamp and blues influences that were just beginning to emerge in his songwriting. The London session allowed Stills to finally team up with Eric Clapton on the track "Go Back Home" and Jimi Hendrix, who died prior to the album's release, is notably featured on the track "Old Times, Good Times." Other collaborators include John Sebastian, Rita Coolidge, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Cass Elliot. Features two of Stills' biggest hits with "Love the One You're With" and "Sit Yourself Down."
