 All For You
Diana Krall
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
On this salute to pianist/vocalist extraordinaire Nat King Cole, Diana Krall has a lot to live up to, presenting a group of compositions that are ingrained in the public's memory as part of a lasting legacy of both jazz and pop music. It's to her credit that she went about this intimidating task with a resourcefulness and quiet grace that makes All For You an exceptional tribute. A majority of All For You features Krall in an appropriately unadorned trio setting wonderfully capturing the essence of the Cole trio's arrangements. Krall swings hard with guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Paul Keller on "I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm" and "Hit That Jive Jack," often employing Cole trio devices such as repeated unison figures and on-top-of-the-beat eighth notes on bass. Krall's own sultry, understated singing and crisp, straightforward piano is distinctive enough to cast a fine new light on these classic songs. Here on 180g Double Vinyl!

Live At The It Club (Mosaic Records)
Thelonious Monk
$99.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 4 LPs
|
The Thelonious Monk Quartet with Charlie Rouse lasted 11 years. October 31 and November 1, 1964 at the It Club in Los Angeles showcase Monk at particular high point pianistically; in fact, he went into a Los Angeles studio and recorded the album Solo Monk on the afternoons preceding and following the live taping. He is in full force throughout, but his playing is particularly superb on the standards "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" and the previously unreleased "Sweet And Lovely."
The band plays standards, many of Monk's famous tunes, a few lesser known items like "Gallop's Gallop" and "Blues Five Spot" and the recent compositions "Teo" and "Bright Mississippi." Propelled by Gales and Riley, Monk and Rouse deliver amazing 10-minute excursions on such Monk classics as "Nutty," "Rhythm-a-ning" and "Blue Monk."
Rouse in his sixth year with Monk had hit his stride, truly becoming Monk's musical alter ego. Remarkably, drummer Ben Riley had joined the quartet at the beginning of 1964 and bassist Larry Gales had only logged in a month at the time of this taping; yet they already show the first signs of collective greatness on these evenings.
Mosaic has returned to the original three-track tapes and mixed them down to beautiful sounding analog stereo masters, presenting the six sets they played that night as they happened.
Track Listing:
1. Blue Monk
2. Well, You Needn’t
3. ‘Round Midnight
4. Rhythm-a-ning
5. Epistrophy (theme- Saturday set one)

 Bleach
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Colored - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Marking the 20th Anniversary of Nirvana's debut album, Bleach, Sub Pop is reissuing the groundbreaking set in expanded and remastered form. This deluxe double-LP includes a never-before-released live performance, special packaging, and the first run will be on 180g white vinyl (the first run of the original LP was also on white vinyl).
Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, Bleach was released in June of 1989 and remains unequivocally and unsurprisingly Sub Pop's very favorite Nirvana full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of the group's 1991 sophomore effort, Nevermind. Subsequently, Bleach has gone on to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone.
This 20th Anniversary Edition has been remastered from the original tapes at Sterling Sound in a session overseen by Endino. The bonus tracks comprise an unreleased live recording of a complete February 9th, 1990 show at Portland's Pine Street Theatre and features performances of "Love Buzz," "About a Girl," and a cover of The Vaselines song "Molly's Lips." Like the studio album, the concert has also been remixed from the original tapes by Endino.
A 16-page LP booklet includes candid photos of the band not previously released to the public rounds out this premier package.

Wilco
$20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
+ Full Length CD - LP Cut from Original Masters and Pressed at Pallas in Germany!
Established from the ashes of alt-country legends Uncle Tupelo by Jeff Tweedy and other former members, Wilco was an apple that initially didn't fall too far from the tree. Their debut album, A.M. builds on the former group's brand of updated country-rock and emotionally charged songwriting, albeit with a more noticeable emphasis on the rock here. Many of the best creations on A.M. from the driver's-licenseless drunk in "Passenger Side" to the bar-band celebration of riverboat gambling on "Casino Queen" also sport an unprecedented sense of humor and playfulness that ultimately strengthens the songwriting and its appeal.

 Smokin'
Humble Pie
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
When Peter Frampton left Humble Pie, the band he co-founded, the group replaced him with fireball guitarist Clem Clemson. And Humble Pie grew a whole lot more raucous, more freewheeling and downright greasy. Their third album, the first with Clemson, is unquestionably their greatest with Steve Marriott's soulful wail totally unleashed. Smokin' yielded the group's most memorable anthem - "30 Days In The Hole." Stephen Still guests on some funky Hammond organ on "Road Runner 'G' Jam." Cut from the original analog masters with the most intense attention paid to every minute detail, this reissue is positively Smokin'!
Track Listing:
1. Hot 'N' Nasty
2. The Fixer
3. You’re So Good To Me
4. C'Mon Everybody
5. Old Time Feelin'

 Live In Paris
Frank Sinatra
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Live In Paris is Frank Sinatra’s definitive concert album. Yes, there are many good ones—Sinatra at the Sands is also among the finest—but none better captures the essence of the singer’s voice, showmanship, and command than this 1962 session, which remained unreleased until 1994. Backed only by a sextet, the main focus here is on Sinatra’s peerless singing, phrasing, and style. Needless to say, the iconic crooner doesn’t disappoint.
It’s impossible to overstate the magnificence of the interpretations on this set. Looking for the ultimate renditions of “My Funny Valentine,” “In the Still of the Night,” “One for My Baby,” “Night and Day,” and “Ol’ Man River”? Search no more. Sinatra’s readings of these classics exceed his superb studio versions, as well as those that appear on other live albums. And consider the setlist: “The Lady is a Tramp,” “Come Fly With Me,” “Chicago,” “I Could Have Danced All Night.” Superb. And Sinatra is simply “on,” bringing a combination of swinging enthusiasm, reverent charm, and dignified emotion to standards. He triumphs with a powerful voice yet affected by the ravages of time and cigarettes.
Fans of Sinatra at the Sands should take note. Sinatra in Paris is much more intimate, with the scaled-down arrangements and small band allowing songs to bask in the glory of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ voice. Yes, Sinatra’s period onstage comments can seem crude. But they take nothing away from the sheer superiority of this recording.
Ever since its release, the lone drawback to Sinatra in Paris has been that of the inferior sound quality. Lament the shortcoming no more. Half-speed mastered from the original tapes and pressed onto two slabs of quiet 180-gram vinyl, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition 2-LP set lifts the veil on the music and allows it to soar with a richness, texture, openness, and presence that have until now gone missing. You will swoon over the improvements.

 Black Gives Way To Blue
Alice In Chains
$19.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The new Alice In Chains album Black Gives Way To Blue is the sound of a new beginning of a legendary band returning to life. Right from the album’s powerful and deeply meaningful opener “All Secrets Known” through its redemptive closing title track, Black Gives Way To Blue, the first new Alice In Chains album in more than 14 years, is not just another rock reunion, but something far more inspiring.
Alice In Chains always was and always will be very much a band. So after taking a more than respectful break to mourn the loss of their brother and band mate Layne Staley, the surviving members of Alice In Chains, Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez, gradually began to make music again. The band came together for the first time in 2005 to take part in a benefit for the victims of the tsunami in Indonesia.
The following year, Cantrell, Kinney and Inez decided that the time was right for Alice In Chains to reclaim its legacy again on tour. They did so with the help of a new guitarist and vocalist William DuVall, a gifted singer and player in his own right from Atlanta who previously worked with Neon Christ, Comes with the Fall, and as part of Jerry Cantrell’s touring band. As live audiences discovered, DuVall brings a sound and stage presence all his own. Yet when DuVall and Cantrell blend their voices, as Cantrell and Staley did so often, there could be little doubt that the spirit of Alice In Chains was once again alive and well.
Black Gives Way To Blue is the next step for a group that over the course of their career earned multiple Grammy nominations and sold more than 19 million albums worldwide and achieved 11 Top Ten singles. At the same time, the album offers the full, bracing impact of Alice In Chains, a band that kept heavy rock exciting at the dawn of the '90s and helped set the stage for an even grungier Seattle sound still clearly firing on all cylinders.
Recording on Black Gives Way To Blue began in October of 2008 at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Northridge and finished at Henson Studios in Hollywood. The band produced the album with Nick Raskulinecz, whose past credits include Foo Fighters and Rush. Black Gives Way To Blue combines some classic Alice In Chains textures with a renewed sense of energy and possibility, from the epic and fantastically electric rocker “A Looking In View” to the exquisite and romantic ballad “Your Decision” to the album’s stunning first single “Check My Brain,” a throbbing rocker in which a band associated with the Pacific Northwest makes a wry and witty observation on working and living in California.
Through Black Gives Way To Blue, there is a deep sense of the unique life that this band has lived, of “Lesson Learned,” to borrow the title of another standout track. In the end, the album offers a kind of shared group autobiography by a band that has survived so much. Together, they are in a way “Last Of My Kind,” to use the title of another album highlight penned by Jerry Cantrell, long a dominant songwriter within Alice In Chains, with lyrics from DuVall. “Imitations are pale,” DuVall and Cantrell sing together on “Black Gives Way To Blue,” a brand new Alice In Chains classic that really has it all; the brooding hurt, the brute force and the beautiful introspection.

1. All Secrets Known
2. Check My Brain
3. Last Of My Kind
4. Your Decision
5. A Looking In View
6. When The Sun Rose Again

 Sea Change
Beck
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Beck’s Sea Change remains the best record of the indie icon’s career. And how. The sonic chameleon shocked the world in 2002 with this warm-sounding folk-pop album—a sincere, honest, and mature meditation on the end of a nine-year relationship with his girlfriend. As for the vocalist’s trademark irony, sarcasm, and humor? Not here. In their place is an affecting emotionalism to which anyone who’s ever been in (or out) of love will relate. The music is equally personal and meditative. Gorgeous string arrangements come courtesy of his father, David Campbell, and illustrate the heartbreak that informs the beautiful melodies and tranquil moods.
Best of all, this album is anything but a bummer. Intending to be heard to from start to finish, Beck begins the record with songs conveying emptiness and loss, and gradually moves on to narratives that detail what changes are necessary to regain a sense of identity, purpose, and feeling. By the time he reaches the concluding “Little One,” the healing has begun. Consider this Beck’s mellowest gold—a feat confirmed by its selection as the #2 record of 2002 on Village Voice’s all-encompassing Pazz & Jop poll.
And now, thanks to truly painstaking remastering efforts, this embraceable and intimate gem sounds better than ever. No lie. Master tapes of every cut were delivered to Mobile Fidelity engineers on a separate reel, with the finished product taking months to perfect. Unlike previous digital versions, no compression or dynamic processing was used, making this half-speed mastered 180-gram 2-LP set not just the definitive version — it’s the only analog version worth owning!

With their eponymous 1984 debut, The Smiths began their tenure as the definitive British indie rock band as well as the torchbearers of a new musical era. Johnny Marr's inventive songwriting and Morrissey's unconventional croon made for an evocative sound that was both original and innovative. Songs about homosexuality ("Hand in Glove") and child molestation and murder ("Suffer Little Children") enshrouded the band in controversy and cultlike devotion, both of which would only grow from here.

 The Soft Bulletin
Flaming Lips
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP + CD - 2 LPs Sealed
|
One of the most respected and innovative bands in music, The Flaming Lips scored a major breakthrough with 1999’s The Soft Bulletin, the group’s most accessible album to that point. Courageous, accomplished and exploding with imagination and sonic texture, the album topped more than 60 year-end “best of” lists, helped rank the psychedelic-noisepopsters among the world’s most influential bands and led to the bestselling success of 2002’s Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. The Soft Bulletin, in this ultimate 180g vinyl version, is a must-have modern classic.
After lauded indie albums, The Flaming Lips debuted on Warner Bros. in 1991 with the masterful Hit To Death In The Future Head. In 1994, “She Don’t Use Jelly” from Transmissions From The Satellite Heart became an unlikely pop hit. Clouds Taste Metallic (1995) led to a year of touring and 2002's Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots became the band's most widely acclaimed album.

 Side By Side
Duke Ellington
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
There’s only one guy who can make an alto saxophone sound like this and superlative after superlative come to mind when you listen to these nine numbers, which were recorded at the close of the '50s. The idea of scaling down Duke Ellington’s band for jam-session-like numbers is absolutely genial because it offers soloists great opportunities to display their artistry. And these wind musicians are the best of the best, masters of their instruments. We have Roy Eldridge, who influenced the transition from swing to be-bop and a modern style of trumpet playing; Harry Edison, whose light and airy Basie-swing style cannot be denied; and Ben Webster, who amalgamates both the Count’s and the Duke’s style of swing. And then there is Johnny 'The Rabbit' Hodges, whose natural feeling for rhythm and gentle tone is brought to optimal expression within this concept.
"Squeeze Me" and "Stompy Jones" both stem from the '40s and are often performed, but in this session they have been rejuvenated in a masterly fashion. The standard "Let’s Fall In Love" demonstrates Lawrence Brown’s highly personal sound on the trombone and then goes on to spotlight Roy Eldridge and Johnny Hodges, both of whom prove that they are at the very zenith of their artistic prowess. "Ruint" and "Going Up" provide a showcase for Johnny Hodges, while "Just A Memory" focuses on the gentle, sometimes rather sentimental sound of Ben Webster.
Just as exceptional is the recording quality of this LP. Timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the two sessions, the reissue offers a excellent opportunity to pay homage to the Verve recording engineers.
Track Listing:
1. Stompy Jones
2. Squeeze Me
3. Big Shoe
4. Going Up
5. Just A Memory

 Bitches Brew
Miles Davis
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

The mercurial Bitches Brew is thought by many to be one of the most revolutionary albums in jazz history, having virtually created the genre known as jazz-rock fusion. Miles adds to his In A Silent Way concept here with soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, additional drums and percussion, plus African, Indian and Brazilian instruments. The result was unlike any music heard before or since. A complete rejection of traditional songs, chord progressions, or even melodic conventions, the album signified that music could be just layers of texture and sound. Bitches Brew is not just an important recording, it's an essential one!

 A Love Supreme
John Coltrane
$16.99 $15.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
This album is pure and raw Jazz. Every song demonstrates Coltrane's prowess on the sax. In one word this album is 'emotion.' Coltrane seems to poor his whole heart into this project. All the players are in peak performance mode and it shows as each take their turn demonstrating their talents. On the track titled "Resolution" McCoy Tyner struts his stuff on the piano, and Coltrane makes his sax literally cry. I would consider this one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time.
Historically speaking, this was one of only two albums that Coltrane recorded all year in 1964. Coltrane's other album that year was titled "Crescent." "Love Supreme" was awarded gold status by 1970 and I can see why, it is a great album.
The beginning of "Pursuance/Part 4 - Psalm" is a drum set that is wonderful and then Coltrane comes screaming into the song with a wonderful brassy sax sound. This is followed by Tyner who is all over the keys of the piano. This last track is pure and raw emotional jazz.
This album could hold a slot next to Miles Davis' work titled "Kind of Blue." The album is dedicated to God, whom Coltrane says in the inserts, is the "Love Supreme." If you don't have this album then you are missing one of the greatest Jazz album's ever recorded. Get it and see why all the reviews below rave on about this masterpiece.
Part 1 - Acknowledgement
Part 2 - Resolution
Part 3 - Pursuance
Part 4 - Psalm

The classic Bob Marley album, the one that any fair-weather reggae fan owns, Legend contains 14 of his greatest songs, running the gamut from 'I Shot the Sheriff' to the meditative 'Redemption Song' and the irrepressible 'Three Little Birds.' Some may argue that the compilation shortchanges his groundbreaking early ska work or his status as a political commentator, but this isn't meant to be definitive, it's meant to be an introduction, sampling the very best of his work. And it does that remarkably well, offering all of his genre-defying greats and an illustration of his excellence, warmth, and humanity. In a way, it is perfect since it gives a doubter or casual fan anything they could want. Let's face it, the beauty and simplicity of Bob Marley's music was as important as his message, and that's captured particularly well here.

 Discwasher D4 Vinyl Record Cleaner
$21.99 $19.99
|
A favorite among collectors for many years. Use the brush dry or wet with the included 1.25 oz. fluid. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris.
The D4+ Record Care System is the result of intensive scientific research on safe record cleaning. The D4+ System is a cleaning system unlike other products, which reduce record dynamics and fidelity. The more active, yet safe, D4+ fluid is actually able to lift and suspend contaminants in solution on the record surface so the D4 pad can easily and efficiently remove debris. Containing less residue than tap water, D4+ fluid will clean without depositing new residues on the record surface; it will not encourage any biological growth as do "constantly damp" cleaning methods.
For longer life, Discwasher recommends that records be lightly cleaned each time before playing. New records should also be cleaned before their first play. Although presumed clean, many new recordings still have mold release compounds in their grooves, thus requiring cleaning.
HAND CRAFTED
The handle of the Discwasher D4+ Record Care System has been hand crafted and finished from solid American walnut, creating elegance for an already superior cleaner.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ROUTINE PRE-PLAY CLEANING
Application
Apply 3-6 drops of the D4+ fluid in a line on the leading edge of the pad (the arrow on the end of the handle points to the leading edge). Distribute the fluid along the leading edge of the pad using several deliberate strokes with the bottom of the D4 bottle, causing the pad to form a strip of damp fabric.
Position
Position the disc washer handle/pad with the arrow end on the outside edge of the record. Gently contact the record with the damp leading edge of the pad. The turntable motor may be assisted by gently turning the record with you finger on the label.
Clean/Dry
Allow the damp leading edge to contact the record for about three revolutions. Dry the record with a simple rolling movement of the handle, allowing for the middle and back edge to contact the album for several revolutions, assuring thorough drying.
D4+ Record Care System.
- Simply the finest record cleaner available.
- Cleans records while retaining fidelity.
- 1.25 fl. oz. D4 recording cleaning fluid.
- D4 pad with solid walnut handle, and convenient storage case.

Prog-Rock Masterpiece from Yes! Cut from the Analog Master Tape!
Propelled by the timeless hit 'Roundabout,' Yes' fourth album, Fragile, became an instant classic and is undoubtedly one of prog-rock's finest moments. It was the first Yes record to feature Rick Wakeman on keyboards and the first to display the inimitable artwork of Roger Dean. And it's now been remastered by the incomparable team of Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at AcousTech Mastering. Typical of Kevin and Steve's work, this version of Fragile is warmer, richer and airier than the 1971 original. Rediscover a classic.
By far the most successful and enduring progressive rock group ever, Yes have been navigating the sonic stratosphere for more than three decades. Weathering myriad personnel changes and as many musical trends, their popularity has endured like granite. As Q Magazine put it, Yes are 'the long haired dads of Radiohead.'

 What's Going On
Marvin Gaye
$29.99
Gain 2 Ultra Analog 180 Gram Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has obtained the master tapes of this landmark album and for the first time What’s Going On will be released on 180g UTLRA ANALOG LP. As with all Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab releases, meticulous attention to detail is paid during the transfer process.
Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On was a landmark recording and is considered one of the greatest albums ever made. Rolling Stone named it Album Of The Year when it came out and, in 2003, it was ranked number 6, the highest for a non-rock album, in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. Originally, the title cut was recorded as a single, and Motown chief Berry Gordy refused to release it, citing that it was too personal and political. "What's Going On" became Motown's fastest-selling single at that point, going to the number one spot on the R&B charts for five weeks and number two for three weeks on the Pop listings, which lead Gordy to request a full album's worth of material.
“What's Going On”, the single, was recorded in June of 1970. The remainder of the album was recorded in March-May of 1971 and was released on May 21st of that year. It was produced entirely by Marvin Gaye.

 The Unreleased Recordings
Hank Williams
$18.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In 1951, at the peak of his storied career, Hank Williams had a daily fifteen-minute show sponsored by Mother’s Best flour and farm feeds. WSM Radio brought him into the studio to prerecord shows that would air when he was out of town. Hank sang with his regular studio band and performed his hits as well as songs he never recorded commercially anywhere else, like old hymns and family favorites.
He recorded onto sixteen-inch acetate discs meant to be played only once or twice. Improbably, some of those discs have survived. These recordings give us a deeper insight into Hank’s life and music, showing a personality that had never been revealed previously. They showcase his humor as he jokes with his band and the emcee, his love of music as he talks unguardedly about his favorite songs, and captures him in his prime. They are three-dimensional portraits of one of the giants of American music.
Following their critically-acclaimed 3-CD box set release of Hank Williams: The Unreleased Recordings in October 2008, Time Life is now proud to release this collectible vinyl edition featuring the best of some of these shows. One listen and you’re in another place and time, hearing the history of country music up until 1951 filtered through the music’s all-time greatest artist.
A historic album drawn from the very best of the Mother’s Best recordings, it includes two complete shows unavailable elsewhere at retail. It's a time capsule, taking listeners back to early morning country radio in 1951.
It’s a rare, informal glimpse into the heart and soul of country music’s greatest star who died in 1953, at age 29.
Follows on the heals of Time Life's critically-acclaimed 2008 release of the 3-CD Hank Williams box set that got dozens of national reviews and huge press support.
This Hank Williams series is fully endorsed by the Williams Estate: children Hank Williams Jr. and Jett Williams.
Superb audio quality is better than Hank’s studio recordings! The restoration and mastering efforts were led by Grammy Award-winning studio engineers Alan Stoker at the Country Music Hall of Fame and renowned expert and Grammy-winner Joe Palmaccio.
Collectible, special vinyl release pressed at a premium facility using 180g virgin vinyl with Stan Ridgway. The warmth of vinyl pressings is an ideal counterbalance to the trebly sound of 1950s recordings, and Time Life is confident that Hank has never sounded better than on this LP.

 Crosby Stills and Nash: Demos

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
12-Song Collection of Previously Unreleased Demos from 1968 to 1971 Offers a Behind-The-Scenes Glimpse at the Earliest Days of One of Rock’s Most Legendary Partnerships!
After four decades as “three together,” the creative partnership of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash is one of the most enduring and influential in contemporary music. This compilation of previously unreleased material takes an unprecedented look at the earliest days of their collaboration with 12 demos from 1968 to 1971 of destined-to-be-classic songs that would later be featured on CSN’s studio albums and solo titles. While a number of demos feature members performing solo (and one finds them joined by Neil Young), the set opens with the trio harmonizing on “Marrakesh Express,” recorded four months before their self-titled debut LP was released in 1969. Other rarities include seminal takes on “Almost Cut My Hair,” “Chicago,” “Long Time Gone,” “Love The One You’re With” and “Déjà Vu.”
The collection, produced by Graham Nash and Joel Bernstein, reaches as far back as ’68 with Stills’ “My Love Is A Gentle Thing,” and also features his solo classic “Love The One You’re With.” Highlights include CSN harmonizing on a January ’69 take on “Marrakesh Express,” Crosby and Stills on “Long Time Gone,” and Crosby and Nash joined by Neil Young on “Music Is Love” (a song later featured on Crosby’s solo debut If I Could Only Remember My Name). Among the other highlights are three songs that would appear on Nash’s solo debut, 1971’s Songs For Beginners, including “Chicago” and “Sleep Song,” and Crosby performing unaccompanied on “Almost Cut My Hair” and “Déjà Vu.”
“On some of these songs you really hear us becoming a band, trying out different ideas in our songwriting and singing and harmonies. It really is a time capsule.” — Graham Nash

 Whites Off Earth Now
Cowboy Junkies
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP sealed
|
Upon its release in 1986, the Cowboy Junkies’ riveting debut sounded like nothing else at the time. Gloriously, it still doesn’t. Haunting, harrowing, eerie, and gorgeous, the soft-toned album reinterprets eight classic blues in a ghostly manner that combines Delta traditions, European classical minimalism, roots country, and thoroughly understated ambience.
The album’s spare, hyper-realistic approach stood as a proud contrast (and still does) to the overly polished, studio-slick blues, pop, and rock efforts mainlined out of high-tech studios. Recorded in just seven hours with an ambisonic microphone, Whites Off Earth Now!! is one of the most acoustically resplendent and dynamically rich records ever cut. The Canadian band’s intentional attempt to reclaim purity has made WOEN a cult classic and audiophile favorite.
Comprised of three siblings and a bassist friend, Cowboy Junkies stuck to songs that they had been playing live since 1985 when it came time to solidify their existence with an actual album. They favored potent standards such as Robert Johnson’s “Me and the Devil Blues” and “Crossroads,” John Lee Hooker’s “Decoration Day” and “Forgive Me,” Bruce Springsteen’s “State Trooper,” and Big Joe Williams’ “Baby Please Don’t Go.” In the Junkies’ hands, these tunes take on newfound ethereal power and riveting danger. Sung in a hushed lullaby voice by singer Margo Timmins, lyrical meanings change and emotional chills increase. Subtle illusions of calmness hold steady, but droning guitars and short bursts of bruised feedback generate a tension that drives these songs into our subconscious.
Disgusted with what they rightly perceived as the contrived, overly processed sound of 80s recordings, the group agreed to let producer/engineer Peter Moore experiment with an unconventional recording technique. The decision proved a stroke of genius. Set up in an uncomfortably hot garage padded with carpets and materials to dampen echoes, the foursome gathered around a single Caltrec Ambisonic Microphone—the quartet recorded direct-to-two-track. The results are magical, the natural and unimpeded sound that audiophiles dream about.
Mastered from the original tapes by Mobile Fidelity, this numbered limited-edition 180-gram LP captures every last finite detail and note. Microdynamics and sonic cues abound. The sticking together of Timmins’ lips from the heat and sweat right before she begins to sing on both Johnson tunes; the sound of drummer Pete Timmins putting his sticks down at the end of “I’ll Never Get Out of These Blues Alive”; myriad creaks, shuffles, and vibrations. What was a stunning headphone record is now an unreal stereo experience. This is what in-the-room presence is all about; albums don’t get more realistic-sounding. The sense of space is staggering.

3. Me And The Devil
4. Decoration Day
5. Baby Please Don't Go

 Singles 1966-1969
Velvet Underground
$39.99
Vinyl LP (7x7" Box Set) - Sealed
|
Sundazed is proud to release The Velvet Underground Singles 1966–69, a 7 x 7" single box set honoring the legendary New York combo's 7" vinyl output in their rare mono versions. The set features exact reproductions of Velvet Underground singles, two of them with their original picture sleeves. The singles are packaged in a distinctively designed box, along with rare vintage photos and new liner notes by Rolling Stone's David Fricke (who also penned the acclaimed notes for the historic 1995 Velvets CD box set Peel Slowly and See).
The Velvet Underground whose membership included Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, Maureen Tucker, Doug Yule and Nico introduced numerous sonic and thematic innovations that laid much of the groundwork for punk and alternative rock. Although they're now acknowledged as one of the most influential bands in rock history, during their existence the Velvets barely registered on mainstream radar, and were often reviled by mainstream observers as well as hippie-era arbiters of cool. But, as Fricke writes in the new set's liner notes, "Somewhere, in another rock & roll universe, the Velvet Underground are more than a legendary band. They are stars, with hit singles, the original seven-inch masterpieces inside this box."
Although they never came close to scoring a hit, the Velvet Underground was ideally suited to the 7" single format. "The Velvet Underground were a great singles band," David Fricke notes, adding that the Velvets "invented modern rock with searing guitar distortion, throbbing improvisation and brutally realistic tales of life on the wild side. But they did it all in these classic pop songs—compact miracles of raw drive, intimate beauty and Top 40 ecstasy, heard again in the original, thrilling mono single mixes."
The seven singles included in The Velvet Underground Singles 1966–69 comprise the four Velvets singles originally released in the U.S. on the Verve and MGM labels, plus an additional pair of singles that were prepared for release but never made it to the marketplace and a special radio-only promotional single. The singles feature alternate mono versions that differ in significant ways from the songs' better-known stereo album versions. For instance, the band's 1966 debut single "All Tomorrow's Parties" appears here in a special mono edit that amplifies the song's melodic beauty and sonic tension, and a mono mix of their sophomore single "Sunday Morning" emphasizes the song's haunting quality. Meanwhile, the mono single version of "White Light/White Heat" exemplifies the vintage Velvets' stark, distortion-laden fury, while a mono edit of "What Goes On" accentuates that song's inherent pop jangle.
The Velvet Underground Singles 1966–69 also includes two unissued singles, one with a never-released pairing of "White Light/White Heat" backed by "I Heard Her Call My Name," and the other with "Temptation Inside Your Heart" and "Stephanie Says," recorded in the waning days of the band's classic Reed/Cale/Morrison/Tucker lineup and unheard by the public for nearly two decades thereafter. The set's seventh single is a reproduction of a vintage promotional disc, a two-and-a-half minute radio spot promoting the band's eponymous third album and featuring legendary disc jockey Bill "Rosko" Mercer, with excerpts from "I’m Set Free," "What Goes On" and "Beginning to See the Light," as well as a picture sleeve with an un-airbrushed variation on the album's iconic cover art.
By presenting the Velvets as a singles band, The Velvet Underground Singles 1966–69 shows, in David Fricke's words, "rock history the way it should have been: the Velvet Underground as the New York Beatles, guaranteed to blow up your radio and your mind."

Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music
Ray Charles
$11.99
Vinyl LP Reissue - Sealed
|
In 1962, Ray Charles turned the musical world on its ear with his soulful take on popular country and western music of the day with his Modern Sounds In Country and Western Music. The album became his first number one on the Pop Albums chart, staying there for 14 weeks, and included four charting singles ("Born to Lose," "Careless Love," "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "You Don't Know Me"). The album represented the culmination of a lifelong love affair Ray had with the genre from his days listening to the Grand Ole Opry radio broadcasts as a child to his time playing piano with the hillbilly band, the Florida Playboys in his late teens to early Atlantic Records rehearsals playing Bill Monroe's "Kentucky Waltz."
Charles had been contemplating an LP of country chestnuts for years, so to him it wasn’t a radical concept. What was earth shattering was the way Ray redefined each song. His sanctified voice would never be mistaken for that of the original artist and there was a huge difference between traditional country fiddles and the cosmopolitan strings gracing this groundbreaking release.
Track Listing:
1. Bye Bye Love
2. You Don't Know Me
3. Half as Much
4. I Love You So Much It Hurts

 Yellow House
Grizzly Bear
$14.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Grizzly Bear has come a long way in the past 2 years. From its original incarnation as a one man band of acoustic guitar, field tapes and a drum machine to it's current state as a full band complete with drums, two guitars, bass, woodwinds, effects pedals, cradled by four part harmonies, Grizzly Bear's music has made the leap from charming lo-fi folk rock to breathtaking, experimental cinematic pop. The talent between the four members of the goup is evident from their deft playing, which also makes for a brilliant and engrossing live act.
Grizzly Bear are remarkable not just for their attention to detail but for their concern for how a song feels. Flush with heart and melancholy, their music is seductive and intimate, deep with hazyeyed choruses, whistles, piano and banjo. Their Warp Records debut, Yellow House melds the possibility of the digital age with the classic American songbook. Transportive and beautiful. It will be your soundtrack to late nights, summer afternoons and first kisses.

 Chet
Chet Baker
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Although always recognized as a trumpeter with unsurpassed lyrical qualities, Chet Baker had many ups and downs in his long career. The very late 1950's was not an up period; the West Coast label he was under contract to readily allowed Riverside to borrow him as leader on four albums. Most of them were extremely uneven, but this one definitely worked.
The album has a strong basic concept (simply to turn Chet loose on some first-class standard-ballad compositions) and one of those casual all-star lineups that the jazz scene of those days made possible: Bill Evans, Kenny Burrell, Herbie Mann, Pepper Adams, Paul Chambers, Connie Kay and Philly Joe Jones.

 Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane
Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

John Coltrane's development as an improviser accelerated in the mid-1950s when he was with Miles Davis. During six months of 1957 with Thelonious Monk in a celebrated engagement at New York's Five Spot Cafe, it went into overdrive. Coltrane said later, "Working with Monk brought me close to a musical architect of the highest order. I felt I learned from him in every way - through the senses, theoretically, technically." Because of the artists' conflicting contractual agreements, Jazzland (Riverside's sister label) was unable to capture the Monk quartet live a the Five Spot. Producer Orrin Keepnews managed to record three studio tracks that did not see the light of day until the sixties. "Ruby, My Dear," "Trinkle, Tinkle" and "Nutty" let us hear what all the excitement was about. "Off Minor" and "Epistrophy" find Monk and Coltrane in a septet that included the great Coleman Hawkins. This record also includes "Functional," an unforgettable Monk solo blues.

 Surfer Rosa
Pixies
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The Plymouth Rock on which alternative rock was founded, the Pixies’ Surfer Rosa forever altered the music environment—even if it did take most of the world a few years to catch up with its brilliance. Internationally acknowledged as a pioneering record, its rollercoaster blend of harsh and soft tempos, male and female singing, intense punk and bubblegum pop tones, dark and light quips, and off-kilter sensibilities is the influential equivalent of the Velvet Underground’s oft-cited 1967 debut.
The 1987 debut established the Pixies as otherworldly visionaries whose songs such as the insistent “Bone Machine,” badgering “Something Against You,” and sensual “Cactus” remain ahead of the curve. Having analog fanatic and noise aficionado Steve Albini working production ensured that the music would retain a requisite rawness and in-your-face sonic signature that paralleled the fundamentally chaotic, compulsive characteristics of the Pixies’ songs.
And now, thanks to the painstaking efforts of Mobile Fidelity engineers, you will truly hear this groundbreaking record as if you were experiencing it for the first time. Vivid, immediate, massive, and detailed, this is how Surfer Rosa was meant to be heard when Albini completed it and turned it into the label.
Why pay $175 for the Pixies’ Minotaur limited-edition box that features the band’s four original records with dated (read: bland, compressed, and flat) sound when you can spend far less and, in addition to this superior 180-gram LP copy, get hybrid SACDs of Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, and Bossanova that play in all CD players and feature remastered sound sourced from the original master tapes? Jeff Anderson, who oversaw the release of Minotaur, says there is no remastering on the box because he didn’t want to touch the original master tapes. We did, and having finally hunted the true masters down, know you’ll agree with our results.
“The heaviness and hugeness of the room-reverberating drumbeat that begins the album-opening “Bone Machine” epitomizes the record’s forward impact, visceral punch, grinding crunch, and dynamic headroom. Rather than cluttering the mix with an avalanche of effects, Albini left space without sacrificing live detail or volatile oomph, shown to great effect on “Broken Face,” “Gigantic (there’s a piano—who knew?), and haunting “Where Is My Mind?,” which opens unto a sonic canyon that swallows the listener whole.” –Bob Gendron, The Absolute Sound, September 2007

New Order formed in Manchester, U.K. in 1980, rising from the ashes of Joy Division after lead singer Ian Curtis' tragic death. Guitarist Bernard Sumner took on vocal duties, and with drummer Stephen Morris, bassist Peter Hook and keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, the group became one of the biggest British acts of their era. Pioneering the fusion of new wave, alt-rock, electronica, synth-pop, house and club music, their unique sound was as thought-provoking and soulful as it was dancefloor-ready.
Movement, their 1981 debut, finds the group exploring the future after Joy Division with darkly melodic stand-out tracks including “Truth,” “Denial” and “Dreams Never End.”

 Shotgun Willie
Willie Nelson
$17.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed

The legendary career of Texas-born music icon Willie Nelson has spanned six decades and stands as one of contemporary music's greatest legacies. Nelson first rose to fame as a Nashville-based songwriter, penning many now timeless standards including "Crazy," a top hit for Patsy Cline. Feeling constrained by the Nashville music establishment, Willie relocated to Austin in the early ‘70s, where the melding of rock and country audiences made a huge impression on him. He began fusing folk and roots rock with a rebellious "outlaw" country flavor, inventing an authentic, stripped-down sound that remains vastly influential to this day. At this pivotal point in his artistic evolution, Nelson signed to Atlantic Records, delivering two signature albums revered as all-time masterpieces of his extensive repertoire, Shotgun Willie and Phases And Stages.
The David Briggs/Arif Mardin-produced Shotgun Willie, originally released in 1973, is widely considered one of Nelson's finest albums. With stellar support from contemporaries Waylon Jennings and Doug Sahm, the album is highlighted by the signature songs "Whiskey River," "Slow Down Old World," "Sad Songs And Waltzes," and the Leon Russell-penned "A Song For You." Standard weight vinyl in a single pocket LP sleeve.

The Drive-By Truckers have been making music together for 13 years resulting in 7 critically acclaimed studio albums which could not contain all of the songs written by the band. DBT recently dug into the New West Records vaults and put the finishing touches on a selection of songs that were never quite completed. The result of the collaboration is The Fine Print: A Collection of Oddities and Rarities 2003-2008, a 12-track album of previously unreleased and rare songs. The Fine Print features songs written by band members past and present, including Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley and Jason Isbell. Seven of the twelve songs come from The Dirty South era, a highly creative time for DBT. The record also contains four covers including "Rebels" by Tom Petty, which the band recorded originally for the TV show King of the Hill and "Like A Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan which provided Shonna Tucker with her first ever lead vocal performance on a DBT recording.

Originally released on the Beserkley label in 1976 (though most of the material was recorded in 1973), The Modern Lovers is a universally accepted proto-punk classic. It's an album that bridges the gap between The Velvet Underground, a band whom leader Jonathan Richman was obsessed with, and the first wave of punk rock. While also displaying the goofy wit that would later be Richman's signature, The Modern Lovers is equal parts geeky, emotional, angst driven, life affirming, and, from start to finish, absolutely brilliant.

A wildly successful tour with Dismemberment Plan, a collaboration for singer Ben Gibbard with emo-electronic guru Dntel under the Postal Service moniker, and a whole new legion of fans swooning to Gibbard's lyrics as if he were a modern day answer to Kiss Me-era Robert Smith have all amassed considerable hype around Transatlanticism. But the group proves themselves more than equal to the task, answering the call and proving the cynics wrong with their most focused and most mature work in their entire catalog. Transatlanticism wastes absolutely no time and dives in head first with "The New Year," one of the most melodramatic openings to an album since the Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight" from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The mellow, mixed-meter percussion and dense atmosphere of "Lightness" is a brilliant lead into the pop-happy "Expo '86" and "The Sound of Settling" before setting up the climatic and intensely dramatic title track. Unconsciously taking a page from Blur's "Sing," the hypnotic drumming and guitar call and responses through the eight-minute climax of the album are backed with a singalong finale that unquestionably will have every audience on the next tour singing along and holding up their lighters. And while most albums would be left exhausted after such a track, the group keeps things moving, albeit at a much slower pace than compared to the anthems that packed the first half. Gibbard seamlessly makes the transition between songs that full out rock to songs that are comparable to Elliott Smith's finest hour with great ease. But it's Gibbard's poetic lyrics and signature introspection that remain a bench mark for Death Cab; and it's the group's maturity as musicians as well as songwriters that make Transatlanticism such a decadently good listen from start to finish. The band has never sounded more cohesive, the track sequencing is brilliant, and it caps off a triumphant year for not only Gibbard, but a band whose time and greater recognition is finally due. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
