 Wake Of The Flood

Numbered Limited Edition 180g LP from Mobile Fidelity
Here Comes Sunshine: 1973 Set Launches Dawning of New Era, Revamped Lineup
Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Larger-Scale Arrangements, Brass Accents, Woodwind Passages Emerge Like Never Before—Tremendous Sound
Album Presents the Dead in All Its Incarnations: Country-Rock Merry Makers, Gospel-Sent Balladeers, Folk-Rock Storytellers, Psychedelic Innovators
Part of Mobile Fidelity’s Amazing Grateful Dead Reissue Series: Live/Dead, Skull and Roses, From the Mars Hotel, and In the Dark Also Available on 180g LP
For the Grateful Dead, Wake of the Flood ushered in an exciting new era of change and potential. The band elected to depart Warner Bros. and start its own record label. A new lineup emerged after keyboardist/vocalist Ron “Pigpen” McKernan passed away and the group landed jazz-schooled pianist Keith Godchaux and his wife, Donna, who gave the ensemble a new option in the form of a dedicated backing vocalist. Having road-tested a batch of new originals, the collective eagerly sought to expand its broad musical palette in the form of a large-scale studio LP that involves horn sections, violin, and choral figures. Diverse, unique, and mellow, 1973’s Wake of the Flood overflows with the luminous vision, stellar songwriting, and ensemble reciprocity made possible by its historical circumstances and inspired creators.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes and part of the label’s unprecedented Grateful Dead reissue series, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited edition 180g LP of Wake of the Flood presents the Dead’s family-styled blend in supreme fidelity. More than any other Dead studio effort, Wake of the Flood utilizes the myriad alternatives offered by the studio setting. Recording to 24-track, the group invited no fewer than six horn players to the fray, with saxophones, trumpets, and trombones synching up with the six-piece band on two songs. In addition, virtuoso violinist Vassar Clements makes a guest appearance and Texas legend Doug Sahm lays down 12-string guitar, contributing to an amalgamation that’s nothing short of epic in ambition—and, in the case of the thematic “Weather Report Suite,” epic in length.
Mobile Fidelity’s engineers recognize how beloved this iconic effort is to so many people. Approaching the mastering process with the same type of focus, perception, and foresight that the Dead bring to the compositions, their painstaking work reveals previously obscured details, timbres, movements, and sounds that greatly add to Wake of the Flood. You can hear and sense it in terms of the LP’s poetic sensibility, arching scope, mythological illusion, and emotional impact, all as natural as the rustic images portrayed on the album’s artwork.
Bass fanatics, take note: During the sessions, Phil Lesh was in the midst of utilizing an Alembic “Quad” bass equipped with four pickups to allow each string to be recorded individually, or, one per track. The oceanfloor-deep bass frequencies on this pressing will loosen anything not properly tethered in your room. Jerry Garcia, too, debuts a new Alembic-produced guitar on the album; his rich tonalities swim in the currents of every song here.
And every tune here is first-rate, good ol’ Grateful Dead. Two separate albeit symbiotically related songwriting teams—Garcia/Hunter and Weir/Barlow—guide excursions into forget-all-your-troubles country-rock (“Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo”), spirit-boosting funk-cum-psychedelia (“Eyes of the World”), mournfully bracing blues balladry (“Stella Blue), and reassuring folk-rock (“Here Comes Sunshine”). Akin to the album’s overall mood, the latter track progressively unfolds, each passage blooming with additional optimism, fortitude, and purpose.
Similarly, the lyrical clouds and thunder ultimately pass on Weir’s beautifully complex and terrifically executed three-part “Weather Report Suite,” a team effort that represents one of the rare occasions of the Dead pairing with a horn section. A live favorite for many years, the tune never possessed onstage the atmosphere-filling soundscapes and theme-enhancing instrumental elements that it does here. Is there a better way to conclude a masterpiece that subconsciously reflects dawning of a new era and the indefatigable hope that comes with it? Doubtful.
Bask in the glory that is Wake of the Flood with this incredible 180g LP pressing. Get your collectable copy and lowest-numbered available version by ordering today!

 Studs Terkel's Wax Museum
Bob Dylan
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
• STUNNING 180 GRAM VINYL RELEASE OF THIS BOB DYLAN LIVE PERFORMANCE
• 1000 ONLY LIMITED EDITION
• On the morning of April 25 1963, directly after the conclusion of his final Freewheelin Bob Dylan album session, Bob journeyed to Chicago for a live club appearance and a radio interview.
• The gig, on the evening of the same day, was at a newly opened club called The Bear, in which manager Albert Grossman was a partner.
• But the primary reason for the 700-mile excursion west was for Dylan to appear on a radio show the following evening, hosted by the extraordinary Studs Terkel.
• Capturing the entire broadcast, during which Dylan is questioned and discusses with Studs his thoughts and ideas behind both the songs he performs and others he had written by this juncture, this CD contains a legendary event during which a 21 year old Bob Dylan also performs full acoustic versions of 7 self penned numbers.
• Across just over an hour of airtime, Studs and Bob chat like old friends as Dylan is prompted towards playing certain tracks from his then fairly slim body of work, but comes up trumps by pulling songs not just from his imminent second record, but including one from the album after that and showcasing 3 songs that wouldn’t see the light of day on record until the 1990s.
• Serving both as a historic document of a little known event in the career of a true musical icon, but also as a wholly enjoyable listening experience that stands up to numerous repeat listens.

$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
• STUNNING 180 GRAM VINYL RELEASE OF THIS BOB DYLAN LIVE PERFORMANCE
• 1000 ONLY LIMITED EDITION
• Not yet 21 and with his first album still unreleased, a largely unknown Bob Dylan was invited by New Yorks WBAI radio to perform a live broadcast for Cynthia Goodings Folksinger s Choice programme on March 11th 1962.
• This legendary recording, available here for the first time on vinyl, illustrates perfectly the scope and manner of Dylans live repertoire in the months leading up to his debut release.
• In addition to the three originals, all newly minted by Dylan, he covers songs by the likes of Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie and Big Joe Williams, but interestingly does not perform any tracks that would feature on his first record just weeks from release at the time of this broadcast.
• Folksinger's Choice also contains the only known Dylan performances of Smokestack Lightning, Hard Travelin and Roll On, John and features the first known outings of The Death Of Emmett Till and Standing On The Highway
• The 11 songs performed are liberally interspersed with chat between Bob and Cynthia, however, far from spoiling the show, this only go to enhance one of the best early recordings we have of Bob Dylan, making this LP an incredibly important early document.

 Second Winter
Johnny Winter
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
In 1969, with several albums already under his belt in a short time like The Progressive Blues Experiment, Johnny Winter headed down south to Nashville and recorded what many believe to be one of his finest albums to date, Second Winter. The album features the original line up of Johnny Winter (vocals/guitars) Edgar Winter (keys and saxophone), Tommy Shannon (bass) and Uncle John Turner (drums). This power quartet laid down some of the finest rock and roll and blues performances ever caught in a studio setting, as well as forever etching the name superstar to Johnny Winter’s career.
Always an avid audiophile and record collector himself, during the original recording sessions, Johnny believed that all the tracks would sound better if spread out over an extra side, instead of the traditional two sided LP, therefore creating the infamous and probably first three sided rock album in history! He summed it up perfectly “We also really liked everything we’d done and didn’t want to leave any of the songs out. We couldn’t honesty give you more, and we didn’t want to give you less, so here is exactly what we did in Nashville, no more and no less.”
It’s no secret that Friday Music has been championing this acclaimed world class artist for years now with his own authorized and top blues charting Live Bootleg Series projects, as well as classic vinyl re-releases from the Columbia and Capitol Records vaults. It is now with great pleasure they announe the continuing Johnny Winter 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his phenomenal earth shaking Second Winter album. Mastered from the original Columbia Records tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at RTI, this incredible limited edition album comes full circle now in its first time audiophile vinyl domain release.
All his greatest hits are here like "Johnny B. Goode," "Miss Ann," "Fast Life Rider" and of course his classic interpretation of Bob Dylan’s scorching "Highway 61 Revisited." A visionary always with each and every one of his releases, Johnny Winter put his all into this album which showed an appreciation to his rock and roll heroes like Chuck Berry and Little Richard, his contemporaries like Bob Dylan, while also being a cultural icon in the psychedelic era solely with his Texan slide and unparalleled blues playing, an unforgettable rock voice, and a fan base that just keeps growing every day.
Fellow legend and brother Edgar Winter and the rest of the band truly excel throughout this entire album as well, on tunes sweltering blues workouts like "Memory Pain," "I Hate Everybody" and the incredible jam "Hustled Down In Texas."
Friday Music has also included the long out of print original gatefold album cover designed by Tony Lane, as well as the fine photography of Richard Avedon.

 Conditions Of My Parole
Puscifer
$24.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed

Puscifer is the brainchild of Tool/A Perfect Circle front man Maynard James Keenan. Spin said of the debut album: "...sharp and giant-sounding, with a delightfully subversive sense of melody" while Kerrang described the set as "Filthy, sexy, electronic beats that writhe and shake it like Tool never could." With Conditions of My Parole, Keenan retreated to his Arizona homestead, recording the twelve-track album he describes as "Twin Peaks in the desert." The result is twelve slightly sinister yet perversely danceable songs that use the notoriously reclusive Keenan's surroundings as inspiration.

Wilco The Whole Love on 180g 2LP + CD
Double Audiophile 180g Gatefold Vinyl Pressed by Pallas in Germany w/ CD Housed in a Cardboard Sleeve
The Band's Debut Release on their Newly Launched dBpm Records
For Wilco, the release of The Whole Love represents more than just the eighth studio album from this innovative Chicago rock band. It signifies yet another new chapter in the band’s constantly evolving, enduring and storied career. Just as their departure from Warner Bros. for the release of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot created a thrilling story, now The Whole Love, on their newly launched dBpm Records, sets one of contemporary music's most creative and independent-minded bands on a wide open road.
Recorded in their northside Chicago loft, the 12 new songs on The Whole Love capture the balance between the band’s art sensibilities, their fondness for traditional American music and their love of classic guitar-driven pop rock. The Whole Love is a veritable sonic stew, showcasing Wilco’s far-reaching musical prowess (multiple guitars, keyboards, synthesizers and percussion plus Mellotron, strings, loops and more) perfectly accompany Jeff Tweedy’s provocative and insightful lyrics. The album was produced by the band and engineered by Tom Schick (Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright).
Coinciding with the album’s release will be the first leg of Wilco’s North American tour, including 2 nights in Toronto's Massey Hall, New York City's Central Park, Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and Atlanta plus shows in Boston, DC, Raleigh, St. Louis and a bunch of other cool stuff east of the Mississippi. Nick Lowe, whose song "I Love My Label" was ceremoniously covered by the band for the b-side of their "I Might" 7" single, supports on all dates.

 Death Of A Ladies Man
Leonard Cohen
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Leonard Cohen's fifth album (released by Warner Bros. in 1977) was produced and co-written by Phil Spector. The duo managed to write 15 songs in just three weeks together but only 8 made the final cut of the album. The combination of Spector's famous 'Wall Of Sound', a general sense of loose fun in the studio and the unbridled sexuality and voyeurism of the lyrics certainly represents a big step forward. At the same time, Death Of A Ladies' Man both lyrically and stylistically is one of Cohen's career peaks, maybe even a masterpiece. Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg even sing backup vocals here on the chorus of the classic "Don't Go Home With Your Hard-On." 180 gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.

1. True Love Leaves No Traces
2. Iodine
3. Paper Thin Hotel

Very few albums are regularly credited with changing people’s lives. R.E.M.’s Life’s Rich Pageant is one of them. For a generation that came of age in the 80s, as well almost everyone that came within earshot of its contents, the Georgia band’s 1986 landmark effort remains an utterly distinctive sonic blend of elegance and whimsy, seriousness and humor, artfulness and accessibility. It’s here that R.E.M. evolves beyond its college-rock identity albeit retains its youthful innocence, here where Michael Stipe’s enigmatic vocals finally attain the same level of prominence as the group’s potent rhythm section.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes and meticulously pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity’s 180g LP version of this masterwork allows the record’s expressive punchiness, dynamic extension, treble-driven jangle, and more forceful playing to be experienced as originally intended. Indeed, Life’s Rich Pageant is notable for its production: Board operator Don Gehman lends the group a harder edge and cleaner sound than it had in the past. On this audiophile-grade reissue, the results come to the fore in the form of contemporary-sounding arrangements, cohesive structures, and cleaner tonalities. If anything, this LP helps make the case for the many that Life’s Rich Pageant—not Murmur or Reckoning—stands as the band’s finest hour.
Lyrically, R.E.M. hits upon more concrete themes, and while Stipe’s occasionally mumbled singing still lacks clear enunciation—a trait that adds to the songs’ mystique and surrounding textures—there’s no mistaking the overt political and environmental sentiments in tunes such as the hit “Fall on Me” and gorgeous “Cuyahoga.” Similarly, “Flowers of Guatemala” epitomizes R.E.M.’s hallmark ability to turn allegory into dreamy poetry, the counterpoint melodies, atmospheric guitar fills, and majestic bridges all enchanting devices of a band that manages to get its point across via spiritual performances and indirect suggestiveness.
Such qualities lie at the heart of Life’s Rich Pageant, on which subtle details and concerted purposes unite to make transcendent, lasting art. Bolder, more pronounced, refined, and immediate than that on previous efforts, Mike Mills’ bass lines and Peter Buck’s swelling guitar passages augment the hard-driving beats as well as Stipe’s increasingly upfront vocals. Disposing with the intentional murkiness and subconscious approach of earlier records, R.E.M. goes in attack mode here, with even mellow numbers resonating with an attention-getting kick. It doesn’t hurt that the band covers the field with expertly executed songs that comprise garage rock, jangle pop, rustic country, and more. What a record.
We don’t need to tell you about R.E.M.’s importance to modern music. And this record plays a large role in establishing the group’s reputation.

 Night of Hunters
Tori Amos
$34.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Night of Hunters is a 21st century song cycle that finds the enigmatic Tori Amos drawing on themes from Satie, Granados, Chopin and other great composers. Her twelfth studio album and her first for Deutsche Grammophon tells a modern love story that is only unraveled after a journey to Ireland's mythic past. The album is an all-acoustic work. Guests include such esteemed players as The Apollon Musagete Quartet and the Berlin Philharmonic clarinet soloist Andreas Ottensamer.
With Night of Hunters, which she wrote and produced, Amos carries on the tradition of variations on a theme to create a bold new work while paying tribute to the mastery of the original compositions. In her own words: "I have used the structure of a classical song cycle to tell an ongoing, modern story. The protagonist is a woman who finds herself in the dying embers of a relationship. In the course of one night she goes through an initiation of sorts that leads her to reinvent herself, allowing the listener to folllow her on a journey to explore complex musical and emotional subject matter. One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted and how both exist within us."

 Biophilia

"What I always wanted to do was to reconnect musicology with nature," Icelandic composer and performer Björk recently told the New York Times. "I always wanted to make bass lines behave like gravity."
Biophilia is the Icelandic singer and composer's most ambitious undertaking in a 20-year career distinguished by continuous innovation and artistic evolution. The album title refers to a love of all living things, and in every aspect of this game-changing multi-media effort, Björk brilliantly connects nature, music and technology.
In addition to the music itself, this project will offer interactive iPad apps, designed by the industry's most creative minds, that feature games, musi, and editorial content-allowing listeners to explore more deeply the concepts and sounds of each of Biophilia's songs.
The artistic and technological reach of Biophilia is nothing short of visionary. As New York Times critic Jon Pareles has put it, "Biophilia is a possible paradigm for the 21st-century album, one that welcomes the interactivity of the Internet and harnesses the power and flexibility of devices that incorporate video, audio and user control far beyond the play button." Media artist and chief Biophilia apps designer Scott Snibbe, enthuses, "To me, it feels like the birth of opera or the birth of cinema."
At the core of this groundbreaking project, of course, are Björk's sonically brilliant and emotionally stirring new songs, akin to the magical, otherworldly, atavistic hymns of her acclaimed 2001 disc, Vespertine. On Vespertine, Björk rhapsodized about a new romance; here, she attempts nothing less than to retell the story of the creation of the universe in her own compellingly idiosyncratic voice.

2. Thunderbolt
3. Crystalline
4. Cosmogony

 Bad As Me
Tom Waits
$21.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Bad As Me is Tom Waits’ first studio album of all new music in seven years. This pivotal work refines the music that has come before and signals a new direction. Waits, in possibly the finest voice of his career, worked with a veteran team of gifted musicians and longtime co-writer/producer Kathleen Brennan.
From the opening horn-fueled chug of “Chicago,” to the closing barroom chorale of “New Year’s Eve,” Bad As Me displays the full career range of Waits’ songwriting, from beautiful ballads like “Last Leaf,” to the avant cinematic soundscape of “Hell Broke Luce,” a battlefront dispatch. On tracks like “Talking at the Same Time,” Waits shows off a supple falsetto, while on blues burners like “Raised Right Men” and the gospel tinged “Satisfied” he spits, stutters and howls.
Like a good boxer, these songs are lean and mean, with strong hooks and tight running times. A pervasive sense of players delighting in each other’s musical company brings a feeling of loose joy even to the album’s saddest songs.
Track Listing:
1. Chicago
2. Raised Right Men
3. Talking At The Same Time
4. Get Lost
5. Face To The Highway
6. Pay Me
7. Back In The Crowd

 Mockingbird Time
The Jayhawks
$29.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
During their heyday in the first half of the 1990's, The Jayhawks perfected a captivating sound that seamlessly blended the elegant folk-rock of The Byrds, the adventurousness of Buffalo Springfield, the hippiebilly soulfulness of The Flying Burrito Brothers, and the soaring harmonies of The Beach Boys. So it's richly ironic that their reappearance coincides with a dramatic resurgence of the musical approach they played such a central role in perpetuating. But this time around, The Jayhawks themselves are revered as icons by the young bands carrying on those same traditions, and it's their own legacy that they're advancing.
On Mockingbird Time, their eighth album, and the first with the original lineup since 1995's Tomorrow The Green Grass, they're once again pushing the envelope on songs and performances of rarefied dynamism and grace. The album's shapes and textures range from the string-laden grandeur of "Hide Your Colors" and the widescreen vistas of "Tiny Arrows" to the streamlined 12-string jangle of "She Walks in So Many Ways" and the amphetamine frenzy of "High Water Blues."

 Kicking & Screaming
Sebastian Bach
$20.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed

As the lead singer of Skid Row, Sebastian Bach was hailed as one of the last true rock stars. His looks, showmanship, charisma and pipes perfectly suited the blend of heavniness and hooks that his band offered. Far from just being a multi-platinum recording artist singer/songwriter/actor/entertainer Bach has expanded his career over the past decade to include TV (Gilmore Girls) and Theater performances (Jekyll & Hyde; The Rocky Horror Picture Show).
In early 2011, Bach signed a worldwide recording contract with Frontiers Records and headed to the studio to record under the direction of Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Atreyu, Filter). The new album presents the debut of the talents of young virtuosic guitarist Nick Sterling and drum pro Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Riot, Iced Earth), alongside Bach’s inimitable vocals.
The result is a high-energy, hard rock album along the lines of 'Skid Row', 'Slave To The Grind', 'Subhuman Race' and 'Angel Down', but the songs, performances and sound quality are heavy, interesting and completely rock 'n' roll.

Considering the ‘60s psychedelic heavy metal sound which Wolfmother gained fame with in 2006 with their debut album ‘Wolfmother’, they could be called “a band out of time”.
Andrew Stockdale, Chris Ross and Myles Heskett formed the band in 2000 and in 2004 they recorded a four-track demo so they could book shows. From then on the band shifted into a higher gear: a jump to the majors, the release of their eponymous self-titled debut album and a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2007.
Music On Vinyl has given this release the special MOV-treatment resulting in a beautiful gatefold sleeve containing two coloured 180-grams audiophile LP’s. Pinnacle First-Era Grateful Dead Record Captures Best of Both Worlds: Band’s Improvisational and R&B-Based Blues Sides on Display
Ranks #244 on Rolling Stone’s List of the 500 Greatest Records of All-Time
Part of Mobile Fidelity’s Amazing Grateful Dead Reissue Series: Skull and Roses, From the Mars Hotel, Wake of the Flood, and In the Dark Also Available on 180g LP
If you want to experience why on any given night the Grateful Dead was the best live band going in 1969, you need to hear Live/Dead. If you want to understand how personal chemistry, symbiotic interplay, and otherworldly energy can lead to a near-extinct onstage combination of soulfulness, surprise, and suspense, you need to hear Live/Dead. Ranked by Rolling Stone on the magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Records of All Time. Universally acclaimed by both Deadheads and non-devotees alike. The perfect synthesis of the legendary group’s first-era vital characteristics and cosmic faculties. A gorgeously recorded sonic artifact and more, Live/Dead is outright essential.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes with the utmost care, and part of Mobile Fidelity’s unprecedented Grateful Dead reissue series, this numbered limited edition 180g 2LP version of Live/Dead raises the iconic album’s lofty prestige even higher. Recorded at three San Francisco concerts in early 1969 with a mobile 16-track studio, the 7-song set has always possessed excellent fidelity in large part because of a mic splitter—specially created for the project—that fed both into the PA system and record inputs, allowing the engineers to capture the shows without any loss in quality.
Seldom have venue dimensions, acoustic properties, spatial characteristics, low-frequency resonances, amplifier tonalities, soundstage balances, and vocal timbres been so faithfully reproduced—or enhanced. Mobile Fidelity’s version elevates Live/Dead into the revered pantheon of the most respected reference audiophile LPs. Close your eyes and you’re dead center, ten rows back in two of the Bay Area’s most beloved halls: Fillmore West and Avalon Ballroom. The degrees of realism are utterly staggering; no, you don’t need any, ahem, chemical assistance to facilitate the transcendent experience.
Renowned for contagious communication between its members, the Dead operates on a interstellar plane throughout Live/Dead. Witnessing the ebb-and-flow manners in which guitarist Jerry Garcia, bassist Phil Lesh, and drummer Billy Kreutzmann respond to one another’s passages and blur the lines between jazz, psychedelia, and rock disciplines. Meandering jamming this is not. Solos burn, rhythms thunder, bass lines roll, melodies twist. “Dark Star” remains the touchstone for what’s possible in epic frameworks, with notes climbing, darting, and skittering amidst a dark canvas seared with mystic vibes and punctuated with blossoming instrumentals. Along with the inseparable pairing of “St. Stephen” and “The Eleven—a sequence that highlights the raw gospel beauty of Garcia, Lesh, and Bob Weir’s harmonies as well as breathtaking tightrope segues—the explorative excursion epitomizes the Dead’s progressive inclination, cohesion, and ability.
Live/Dead isn’t all about the art of the improvisation. R&B-driven electric blues comes courtesy of organist/vocalist Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, still in excellent health, and pianist Tom Constanten, who departed the band shortly after these shows occurred. The latter’s counterpoint playing and spiritual accents shadow the shivering ballad “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” and underscore a rousing, percussive-laden marathon take of “Turn on Your Love Light.” Call-and-response segments, spontaneous exchanges, and joyous merry-making doesn’t come any better. Live/Dead is a landmark in every sense; it remains the first 16-track album released. Its impact is still felt today.
From the illustrative cover art (hint: the word “Dead” subtly spells out “Acid” on the back cover) to the gatefold graphics and the extraordinary sonics, Mobile Fidelity’s 180g 2LP edition ranks among the label’s best releases. Ever. Secure your lowest-numbered edition by ordering now!

 Candy-O
The Cars
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
How did the Cars move beyond their smash 1978 debut (also available on Mobile Fidelity 180-gram LP) and secure their status as one of music’s leading bands for years to come? Look no further than the quadruple-platinum Candy-O. Continuing along the streamlined pop paths of its predecessor, the sophomore effort is preoccupied with desirable women that are as mysterious, sexy, and cool as the group’s music—and the record’s pin-up cover.
With rare exception, few new-wave artists enjoyed much of a career outside of a one-hit wonder. Candy-O proves the Cars were anything but. It’s loaded with minimalist atmospherics, pulsing bass lines, catchy refrains, and labyrinthine synthesizers that stick in your mind for days. And while retaining a simplicity that’s a Cars hallmark, the album also takes myriad stylistic detours: the glam-rock accents of “Dangerous Type,” a song whose title references the record’s mysterious and lusty matter; the percolating riffs of the contagious title track; the dizzying garage-rock nature of the upbeat “Got a Lot on My Mind,” complete with a tooting Farfisa organ. Nothing drags or feels out of place.
Through it all, vocalists Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek keep their heads about themselves, singing in direct albeit detached tones that convey the tension, excitement, and risky promise inherent in the lyrics. Hook-laced choruses abound. Yet all is not what it seems.
“Hooks are mechanical by nature, but the affectlessness of these deserves special mention; only listeners who consider alienation is the craze a great insight will find much meaning here. On the other hand, only listeners who demand meaning in all things will find this useless. Cold and thin, shiny and hypnotic, it's what [the Cars] do best--rock and roll that is definitely pop without a hint of cuteness.” –Robert Christgau, The Consumer Guide
Half-speed mastered from the original analog tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition LP brings the Cars’ distinctive melodies and exotic arrangements to the fore in ways that have never been heard outside of the recording studio. For the first time, Roy Thomas Baker’s vocal production shines, with each member’s contributions rescued from a cold sonic murk that detracted from the music’s impact on both vinyl and the extremely compressed CD. Once you hear the newly uncovered dynamics and rich textures, you’ll be wondering where they were all of these years. Chalk this up as an essential addition to your pop collection.

1. Let's Go
2. Since I Held You
3. It's All I Can Do
4. Double Life
5. Shoo Be Doo
6. Candy-O

 Ghost To A Ghost/Gutter Town
Hank Williams III
$29.99 $14.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
With his own new label, Hank3 Records, and the sense that he has thrown off the chains holding him back creatively, Shelton Hank Williams III, aka Hank III, is coming out swinging in 2011 with the release of four records. The unprecedented launch, in a distribution partnership with Megaforce Records (MRI), features a broad range of music that bridges more than one head-thumping genre, a familiar theme that true Hank III fans have embraced for years. Ghost to a Ghost/Gutter Town, a double-album set, is a straight-shooting country collection, flavored with Hank III's trademark hellbilly sound, and heavily weighted with Cajun influence (especially on Gutter Town) and an ambient, lonesome mood, and a few very special guests.
All three projects were recorded at The Haunted Ranch, Hank III's home and studio that lies on the outskirts of Nashville, a fitting place since the town has never really known what to do with this grandson of the American icon. He finally parted ways with Curb Records January 1. "I have musical freedom. I'm able to say 'Here's my record' and I don't have to go through a million different channels just to put out a song," he says. "It's all me now."
Hank III wrote the lion's share of the songs that appear on Ghost to a Ghost/Gutter Town. The players are Andy Gibson on steel guitar and banjo, who also aided in its recording, David McElfresh on fiddle and mandolin, Zach Shedd on standup bass, Daniel Mason on banjo, super-picker Johnny Hiland on guitar, Billy Contreras on fiddle, and Rory Hoffman on accordian. Guest appearances include the mythical Tom Waits on the haunted "Fadin Moon" from Gutter Town and on the Ghost to a Ghost title track, Alan King of Hellstomper, Les Claypool of Primus fame, Dave Sherman, Troy Medlin and Hank III's dog Trooper.
Cuts such as "Gutter Town," "Ridin The Wave" and "The Devil's Movin In" on Ghost to a Ghost and "Goin to Gutter Town," "The Low Line" and "I'll Save My Tears" on Gutter Town highlight both the excellent musicianship on the records, and Hank III's unmistakable, confident vocals. The release of all three projects represents a new birth for Hank III, and he's happy to have the chance. "Megaforce Records has helped me with my vision to do something that never been done before," he says. "They're handling my distribution, and I wanted to flood the market and do everything different. I wanted to come out of the gate strong. I'm opening up the mind a little bit and bringing some different styles together."

 Lioness: Hidden Treasures
Amy Winehouse
$17.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Following her tragic passing in July, some of the producers and musicians who worked closely with Amy Winehouse, among them Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, spent time listening over the many recordings that Amy had made, before, during, and after the release of “Frank” and “Back To Black”. It was said by all who worked with Amy that she never sang or played a song the same way twice. It quickly became apparent to Salaam and Mark that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend.
The 12 track collection features previously unreleased tracks, alternate versions of existing classics as well as a couple of brand new Amy compositions, and has been compiled by long-time musical partners Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson in close association with Amy’s family, management and record label Island Records. “Lioness : Hidden Treasures” proves a fitting tribute to the artist, the talent and the woman and serves as a reminder of Amy’s extraordinary powers as a songwriter, a singer and an interpreter of classics.

 The Pink Panther
Henry Mancini
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The film director Blake Edwards brought into existence what is probably the best opening sequence to his comic crime film when he commissioned a young enterprising company to produce an animated Pink Panther cartoon film. The creative team came up with the idea of giving the cold, glittering diamond the guise of a cool, pink panther, which leads a bungling detective on a merry dance to the slinky sound of the Panther theme.
Henry Mancini would not be Mancini if he did not bathe the film location, the skiing resort Cortina d’Ampezzo, in highly varied musical colours and genres. His well-known love for dance music finds itself in the samba ("It Had Better Be Tonight"), the shuffle ("Champagne And Quail"), and the cha-cha ("Something For Sellers").
But also the ballad, sung by a muted trumpet and saxophone ("Royal Blue"), or the simple combination of keyboard and strings ("Piano And Strings") are all woven into the story. One of the most memorable and delightful sounds is that of the accordion, whose melodies evoke an atmosphere that is filled with the Bohème, Paris and the sound of the musette. This music is never gaudy, but subtle, just like a panther padding quietly along.

 Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-Nerd
Lynyrd Skynyrd
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Perhaps people needed help pronouncing Lynyrd Skynyrd's name when the Florida band's debut album came out in 1973, but soon no one would need help recognizing - or requesting - the album's classic rock anthem "Free Bird." With the exception of this nine-minute epic, Pronounced is actually quite lean and mean. Full of instantly recognizable Skynyrd standards like "I Ain't the One," "Gimme Three Steps," "Poison Whiskey," "Simple Man," and the ultimate rock ballad "Tuesday's Gone," there isn't a single weak spot on it. By blending hard rock, blues, country, and the heart of the South with the distinctly sentimental voice and intelligent lyrics of Ronnie Van Zant, Lynyrd Skynyrd didn't just create an anthem with this album, they defined a genre. They also won themselves an opening slot on the Who's US Quadrophenia tour. Fun Fact: Leonard Skinnerd was a physical-education teacher at the band members' high school that busted their chops for having long hair.

2. Tuesday's Gone
3. Gimme Three Steps

 Breakfast At Tiffany's
Henry Mancini
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Long nights, dizzy parties, a variety of men-friends, and breakfast standing before the window display of the famed jewelery company govern the life of the dazzling Holly Golightly, who has in reality a very ordinary name and poverty-stricken background.
All the more rich is the musical carpet that Henry Mancini lays beneath the feet of the exotic, wealthy-husband-seeking socialite. The tender, plaintive worldwide hit "Moon River" apart, Mancini and his Hollywood musicians mix a sugar-sweet sound with enough acrid elements to glaze over the capricious lady’s character. The cool big band sound is spiced with a bold trumpet solo ("The Big Blow Out") and mellow violins with a suspiciously tame male choir ("Breakfast At Tiffany’s").
As is well known, there is a great deal of dancing in the film, including a number with a Latin-American rhythm ("Latin Golightly"), and a grooving mambo ("Loose Caboose"). At the end of the film even the "Moon River" swells to become a bubbling cha-cha, as though to say that a 'happy end' must in no way sound sentimental.

 Europe '72
Grateful Dead
$59.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed
|
Nearly 40 years ago, the Grateful Dead released Europe '72, a triple live album documenting its historic trek across Europe that became not only one of the band's best-selling releases, but also set the gold standard for live Dead.
The Grateful Dead’s first tour outside of North America took them to all sorts of historic and unusual venues in England, Denmark, West Germany, France, Holland and even Luxembourg. Many members of the Dead family came along on what was really an extended working vacation that was designed to both expose the Dead to new audiences and also reward the band for their unlikely conquest of America during the preceding two years. As a hedge against the costs of the nearly two-month trip, the Dead’s label, Warner Bros., paid for the band to lug around a 16-track recorder to capture the entire tour.
This was a band at the top of its game, still ascending in the wake of three straight hit albums: Workingman’s Dead, American Beauty and the live Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses). It had been a year since the lineup had gone to its single-drummer configuration, six months since Keith Godchaux had been broken in as the group’s exceptional pianist, and this marked the first tour to feature Donna Godchaux as a member of the touring band. This would also be Pigpen's final tour with the band.
There was a ton of new, unreleased material that came into the repertoire in the fall of ’71 (after Skull & Roses was out) and during the spring of ’72, including “Tennessee Jed,” “Jack Straw,” “He’s Gone,” “Ramble on Rose,” “One More Saturday Night” and “Mr. Charlie.” All those future classics were interspersed with songs from the aforementioned hit albums such as “Cumberland Blues” and “Sugar Magnolia,” as well as spectacular versions of “Truckin’” and “I Know You Rider.”

The Beatles - Abbey Road on a domestic pressing at a good price! George came into his own as a writer with "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something." The sessions proved to be the last for the Beatles. The cassette version of Abbey Road has "Come Together" and "Here Comes the Sun" switched on the track list, and the UK version does not list "Her Majesty" on the back cover, whereas some US copies feature one or the other, or both. Rumors circulated for some time that Paul was not wearing pants for the cover photo and they were airbrushed on, but photo outtakes from the same session have proven this false.
Abbey Road won the 1969 Grammy for Best Engineered (Non-Classical) Recording. Nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Group.

 Metals
Feist
$17.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
On her new 12-song collection, Metals, Canadian singer/songwriter Feist is joined by her longtime collaborators Chilly Gonzales and Mocky. The trio spent a frigid month "Trying to sound like we had played together as long as we'd collectively known each other, around 50 years," then decamped for California's rugged Big Sur coastline to record them. Feist co-produced the album with her aforementioned collaborators and Valgeir Sigurosson (Bjork, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.)
"Recording can be a weightless free float from your day-life, and I like to pick places with certain fertile qualities that can give me a visual hook that I'm there to do something other than what I would otherwise do. And that clean line between land and see, the graphic edge of the continent pointing out toward the east, meaning not the Atlantic next stop Europe feeling, but next stop somewhere you've never been," Feist says. "Plus, you are somewhere that looks completely unfound and yet it's been so perfectly recorded literarily. Steinbeck made 1000 albums there! Henry Miller and Anais Nin probably considered that line between land and sea, too. And on top of it, we truly found the perfect room to build a studio in, perched on the cliffs. A giant empty space."
Metals' songs range from low rumbling and moody ambiences to brutal and intense, as if it sonically maps the fog rolling in and the resulting cracking of thunder. "There's a lot more chaos and movement and noise than I've had before," Feist says. "I allowed for mistakes more than I ever have, which end up not being mistakes when you open things up and make room for them. It was about un-simplifying things and leaning on these masterful minds I have so much respect for. We were sort of testing the air, like a sea captain licks his finger to see which way the wind is coming from. It was less Brill Building and more naturalistic."

 Homemade Ice Cream
Tony Joe White
$24.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Originally released in 1973, Homemade Ice Cream is the sixth album released by Tony Joe White. Features "Did Somebody Make a Fool Out of You".
You may or may not know of Tony Joe White, but we all know his two most famous songs - "Polk Salad Annie" and "Rainy Night In Georgia." This record is up to the standards of those great numbers. So soulful, humid, rich and textured. Or as Tony Joe would say, "It's swampy."
The last four songs on side two of this album are going to positively floor you. They are so sparse and bluesy and emotional. And the sound is as good as the music. With this new QRP pressing, the sound is so good it's tape-like. So solid and jet-black is the foundation from which the music just jumps. Ya gotta hear it to understand what we're trying to describe. It's one of those jaw-hit-the-floor, sit-in-stunned-silence, goose-bump-raising, tears-in-your-eyes records. You know, the kind we're all looking for as audiophiles?
Homemade Ice Cream was originally released in 1973 on Warner Bros. and was co-produced by White and legendary Atlantic producer Tom Dowd. It's White's sixth overall record and his third for Warner Bros. This is very much a back porch acoustic affair. The music has the space to breathe, one of the reasons for the life-like sound.
This title is not eligible for discount.

1. Saturday Night in Oak Grove, Louisiana
2. For Ol' Times Sake

 The Sea of Memories
Bush
$22.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Multi-platinum rock band Bush return with their highly anticipated new album, The Sea of Memories. Recorded with producer Bob Rock (Aerosmith, Metallica), The Sea of Memories is the seminal band’s first studio release in 10 years. The album captures the electricity and trademark intensity of classic Bush delivered in a setting that’s fresh and alive. Songs like “The Sound of Winter,” “Heart of the Matter” and “All Night Doctors” are propelled by heavy guitar and hypnotic beats, simple song structures and sublime textures.
About the album, Rossdale says, “When making music, you have a choice to repeat what you’ve done or move on. It would’ve been safe to just rework (1994’s debut album) ‘Sixteen Stone’ over and over, but what kind of life would that be? When you’re driving down the road, you’re focused on what’s in front of you; you don’t really think to keep checking in your rear view mirror. I like the idea of art changing, developing and morphing.”
Track Listing:
1. The Mirror of the Signs
2. The Sound of Winter
3. All My Life
4. The Afterlife
5. All Night Doctors
6. Baby Come Home
7. Red Light
8. She's a Stallion

Aerosol formula provides a microscopic layer of lubrication that reduces record wear and prevents static build-up. Comes in a kit with two pads. The new formulation leaves no residue, reduces surface noise and extends stylus life.
Gruv-Glide is a dry record treatment that actually enhances the fidelity of the record. Now for the first time, Gruv-Glide will allow you to hear more micro-detail while bringing out the best possible sound.
Gruv-Glide not only increases fidelity, but also reduces surface noise, removes static, and cleans the record. The kit will treat at least 200 records when used as directed, making it a very economical record care system.

 A Love Supreme
John Coltrane
$16.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
This album is pure and raw Jazz. Every song demonstrates Coltrane's prowess on the sax. In one word this album is 'emotion.' Coltrane seems to poor his whole heart into this project. All the players are in peak performance mode and it shows as each take their turn demonstrating their talents. On the track titled Resolution McCoy Tyner struts his stuff on the piano, and Coltrane makes his sax literally cry. I would consider this one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time.
Historically speaking, this was one of only two albums that Coltrane recorded all year in 1964. Coltrane's other album that year was titled Crescent. Love Supreme was awarded gold status by 1970 and I can see why, it is a great album.
The beginning of Pursuance/Part 4 - Psalm is a drum set that is wonderful and then Coltrane comes screaming into the song with a wonderful brassy sax sound. This is followed by Tyner who is all over the keys of the piano. This last track is pure and raw emotional jazz.
This album could hold a slot next to Miles Davis' work titled Kind of Blue. The album is dedicated to God, whom Coltrane says in the inserts, is the Love Supreme. If you don't have this album then you are missing one of the greatest Jazz album's ever recorded. Get it and see why all the reviews below rave on about this masterpiece.

Part 1 - Acknowledgement
Part 2 - Resolution
Part 3 - Pursuance
Part 4 - Psalm

Includes 16 Page Booklet
Limited Edition Remastered 180g Vinyl Culled from Reel to Reel Tapes & BBC Transcription Discs
Featuring Previously Unreleased BBC Archive Material from Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple and the Yardbirds Among Others!
Sourced from proficiently recorded reel to reel tapes and BBC transcription discs, Radio Tymes presents very rare and desirable recordings from some of the '60s major players, and indeed some groups who would find wider acclaim during the following decade.
A band still going strong today, Radio Tymes rewinds back to the early days of Deep Purple with the discovery of their first live performance ever broadcast on British radio in mid-1968, as well as an incendiary number from the last session by the original line-up. Superb recordings from The Yardbirds' final BBC session in 1968, including the legendary "Dazed And Confused," finally appear in excellent quality, and unbelievably a document of Jimi Hendrix singing live on Simon Dee’s Dee Time TV program has surfaced which has not been heard anywhere since 1967.
Two great tunes by The Move from the first ever Top Gear provide ample proof as to why they are regarded as one of the most revered groups of the era, and from the very same program psychedelic heroes Tomorrow with Keith West play their underground anthem "My White Bicycle." The live version of "Sabre Dance" that initiated Love Sculpture's top ten single accompanies two other fantastic covers from their colorful repertoire, and Barclay James Harvest add more fuel to the fire with the quite perfect and upbeat "Night."
Radio Tymes is a legitimate collection licensed from the BBC and the relevant record companies, and as per usual the LP comes with a 16 page booklet. All the music has been professionally restored, with the Deep Purple tunes having been worked on at Abbey Road Studios no less, and the results of restoring music from old reel to reel tapes in particular is startling to say the least.
Track Listing:
1. The Painter - Deep Purple (transmitted on BBC radio show ‘Chris Grant’s Tasty Pop Sundae’ on 6th July 1969)

On October 10, 2010, Solomon Burke passed away at Amsterdam Schiphol airport on his way to perform a gig with his Dutch collaborators De Dijk. What was supposed to be a release party for their album Hold On Tight then became a celebration of the life of the one true King of Rock 'n Soul.
De Dijk, heroes of the Dutch music scene, and Solomon met and shared the stage while on tour in 2007, and they came up with the idea to record an album together. King Solomon was true to his word; De Dijk adapted a number of songs from their back catalogue for Solomon to sing, and they dove into the studio for what sadly turned out to be Solomon's last album. De Dijk's bluesy spin on soulful hard rock turned out to be a sweet musical match with Burke's powerful vocals, Hold On Tight is one of the truest rock'n'roll projects he worked on.
As allmusic.com puts it: 'an impressive finale to a genuinely remarkable career.' The first available edition on vinyl!

Numbered Limited Edition
Rod the Mod's Definitive Album: Timeless Feel-Good Set Contains Eternal Chart-Topper "Maggie May," Introspective "(Find A) Reason to Believe"
Ranked #172 on Rolling Stone's List of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
Stewart's Band Includes His Faces Mates: Ron Wood, Ian McLagan Shine
Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI (The Best Plant in America): LP Boasts Organic Warmth and Full-Range Extension
Rod Stewart owned the early 1970s. When he wasn't recording great sets with the Faces, he was redefining how folk, country, and soul music could be folded under rock's umbrella. Filled with first-rate originals and terrific interpretations of classics, Every Picture Tells A Story remains Stewart's watershed moment, a brilliant synthesis of organic warmth, earthy tones, raucous romance, and loose performances. Those who only know Stewart from his later evolution into a sappy balladeer will be overwhelmed.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI (the best record plant in America), MoFi Silver Labels' numbered limited edition LP presents the 1971 smash in the most transparent, warm, and full-range sound the music has ever enjoyed. Stewart's supremely soulful vocals come on with insouciant passion and joyous persuasion, the detail allowing listeners to hear into his lungs and feel every breath he draws. His equally superb band is presented amidst an expanded soundstage that's free of artificial ceilings and harshness introduced by several digital remastering editions. The explosive sound is akin to watching a fledgling group come into its own in a small club.
Kicking up the tempo and slightly increasing the edge from his previous solo effort, Stewart transforms blues, folk, country, and soul into a hard-rocking hybrid that maintains acoustic properties but isn't afraid to step out and report on what it's like to have a night out on the town. Anchored by Mick Waller's free-swinging percussion, every song triumphs, with Stewart's slightly hoarse and eminently emotive vocals communicating each word as if they're literally sewn as hearts on his sleeve. Ron Wood's slide guitar and gritty chords complement the singer's earnest conviction, and Ian McLagan's organ adds bittersweet accents. Nothing here is blue; Every Picture Tells A Story is a celebration.
Stewart combines American and British folk styles on the strolling "Mandolin Wind," the touching song epitomizing the simple, direct approach that underpins the entire album. On the breathless title track, Stewart embraces his inner playboy, the tune's likable crude-and-rude swagger sent up on crackling rhythms and visceral harmonies. The British native handles Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow Is A Long Time" and the evergreen "That's All Right" as if he wrote them. The best aspect of Every Picture Tells A Story relates to how genuine and believable Stewart and his good-natured company sound throughout.
If you are a fan of rock, soul, folk, or the blues, you owe it to yourself to have a superb copy of this timeless record that shows off its translucent and organic tones, extraordinary vocal performances, and crack backing band. Mobile Fidelity's Silver Label numbered limited edition LP does just that. And it restores one of the most iconic album covers in history. As for that "Classic Edition" statement that's always hovered at the top of the record? Never truer than now.

 Sin & Soul
Oscar Brown Jr.
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
When Oscar Brown died at the age of 78 in 2005, one journalist at least, from The New York Times, was unsure as to how to describe the artist to whom America had just bid a final farewell. To write in his obituary that he was a jazz singer seemed too platitudinous, because Brown didn’t just sing his songs, he performed them. But it would have been just as wrong to honor him as a jazz songwriter, despite his collaborations with Miles Davis and Max Roach, because he was more closely associated with gospel, folk and blues.
His vocal qualities lie in a recitative-like, dry declamation, sharp as a knife, as is clearly heard in "Work Song." The pain brought on by life’s adversities can be cried out internally even if you appear to remain unaffected outwardly ("But I Was Cool"). A portion of sarcasm is necessary when the singsong of a slave trader constantly calls for higher bids ("Bid ’Em In") and when a babbling child can pester its daddy with both banal and existential questions ("Dat Dere").
The generously manned band does not often play all together as in the springy "Signifyin’ Monkey." Here we have just a few chords on the piano ("Watermelon Man"), there a gently plucked guitar ("Brown Baby"), or a quiet pulsating rhythm ("Afro Blue"), very often not much more was needed for a sin and soul performance by Oscar Brown, who, by the way, and so typically American, regarded himself as an entertainer.

 I'm With You
Red Hot Chili Peppers
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Children are born, but a friend dies. A new guitarist arrives as the old one leaves. And a band is reborn after an overdue break. Beginnings and endings. That's I'm With You, truly the beginning of a new era for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The 10th album of the Los Angeles band's singular career sees the band refreshed, renewed, once again working with producer Rick Rubin (their fifth partnership, including the last album, 2006's monster Stadium Arcadium double album tour de force). It expands the same combination of funk and finesse, intensity and tenderness that's made the Peppers sine qua non in modern rock, but with a new set of life experiences from the intervening years that coalesced into a dynamically fresh start.
I'm With You was written collectively by the four members: founding singer Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith (who's been with the band since 1989) and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer (the new guy, though he's been a long-time friend of the band and served as second guitarist on much of the Stadium Arcadium tour). That process, coming after the band took two years off following its 2006-2007 world tour, happened in a full year of sessions starting in a Hollywood basement and continuing in the unlikely idyll of Big Sur, where they used a studio converted from a barn at Beach Boy Al Jardine's spread. Recording was done in Los Angeles and at Malibu's Shangri-La Studios. The result is the most heartfelt, playful and accomplished album in the band's storied career.

 The Deep End Volume 2
Gov't Mule
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

After the death of Gov't Mule's founding member, Allen Woody, it was the intention to record one record as a tribute to Woody. But as the sessions proceeded, the list of bassplayers Woody admired became longer and longer leaving the remaining members Warren Haynes and Matt Abts no choice then to split the project in two releases.
In September Music On Vinyl released 'The Deep End Vol. 1' as a double LP and now we complete the set with Volume 2.
Haynes and Abts teamed up with Phil Lesh (The Grateful Dead), Les Claypool (Primus), Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica) and Billy Cox (Band Of Gypsies) resulting in, again, a double LP with genres varying from funk to heavy metal and psychedelic rock to punky weirdness.
Despite these variations of genres the music manages to sound like Gov't Mule and it elevates 'The Deep End Vol. 2' to a coherent record.

 Turnstiles
Billy Joel
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
By 1976, Billy Joel had proven his merit as an auteur of California-based singer-songwriter pop-rock. On Turnstiles, the legend focuses his attention on more ambitious matters: Making an album whose scope and range dwarf that of his previous work, and shot his star into the stratosphere. Encompassing everything from urgent rock to soft pop and saloon fare, Turnstiles is a classic of major proportions.
Mobile Fidelity has gone back to the original master tapes to present Joel’s encompassing music the way it was always intended to be experienced: Intimate, detailed, expressive, warm. The record’s widescreen sonics are at last properly cinematic, flush with colors, textures, and atmosphere.
Progressing away from sensitivity, Joel casts his eye towards broader horizons. For him, that meant moving from the West Coast back to his native New York and embracing the city’s doo-wop, Broadway, and R&B heritage. Joel’s diversity comes through in a spectacle of memorable tunes, including the infectious “All You Wanna Do Is Dance,” acerbic “Angry Young Man,” and gorgeous “I’ve Loved These Days.”
Still, no song better illustrates the allure—and breadth—of Turnstiles more than “Say Goodbye to Hollywood,” bathed in the sort of fabulous Phil Spector sound, huge drum echoes, and Brill Building orchestral sweep that Joel grew up on. Similarly, the sprawling ballad “New York State of Mind” clearly states the singer’s vision and mood. On the definitive track, Joel luxuriates in full string accompaniment and soulful saxophone playing that gives the pop standard its foundation. Not for nothing did Joel insist on keeping his touring band for the album, a decision that resulted in the firing of the record’s original producer.
Supported by talents such as arranger Kenny Ascher, guitarist James Herb Smith, and percussionist Mingo Lewis, Joel succeeds in wrapping his head around a rich swath of American pop music, stopping by way of New Orleans, Kansas City, Memphis, Chicago, and other cities on his way from California back to the Garden State. While lacking the fame of the subsequent The Stranger and 52nd Street, Turnstiles is in every way their equal.
Finally, the delicate nuances of Joel’s phrasing, pregnant pauses, and introspective emotion can be experienced in three-dimensional fidelity. In addition, the spectrum of the orchestra’s power and finesse, ravishing poignancy of the lyrics, and bittersweet qualities of the melodies bloom with unforced immediacy. The previous veiled sonic character and stultifying dryness have been corrected, presenting Joel and his crack band with illuminating precision and feeling.
Turnstiles has never sounded better—and it never will.

 Yuck (Deluxe)
Yuck
$16.99
Vinyl LP + Bonus 12" - Sealed

Yuck's self-produced self-titled debut showcases a band capable of sprinting off in pretty much any direction you can think of, so diverse and fully realized is its vision. It also shows that their previous releases were merely skimming the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the quartet of Daniel Blumberg, Max Bloom, Mariko Doi and Jonny Rogoff are capable of. This is a confident, wildly ambitious record, but also one which brims over with a ragged warmth and tenderness, tipping its hat at alt music heroes past such as East River Pipe, Dinosaur Jr and Sparklehorse while at the same time retaining a unique identity entirely its own.
From the rousing call to arms of the opener “Get Away,” to the hypnotic sturm und drang of “Rubber”, and the grungy serotonin rush of “Operation,” it is clear that this is a band in full control of their powers when it comes to anthemic and offbeat guitar rock. But they also reveal an achingly fragile side too, as with the gorgeous, heartsick croon on “Suck” or on “Sunday” where Blumberg asks, “Did you take the rhythm from me? Yesterday I had it all” over chiming, jangling guitars.

 The Great Escape Artist
Jane's Addiction

Vinyl LP - Sealed

Great bands break rules, but legends write their own. Jane's Addiction – back again with THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST, their first studio album in eight years – have actually written the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs (“Jane Says”, “Stop!”, the HBO Entourage theme song, “Superhero”) and a cinematic live experience. Their songs serve as the Ten Commandments for alt rock, inspiring an entire generation of bands such as Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and Tool.
When the Los Angeles quartet came along, they merged alternative and rock like no one before, becoming the first alternative rock band, creating a new sound and attitude. Acclaimed for their swirling sonic symphony and unique studio alchemy, Jane’s Addiction have sold over seven million records in the US alone. They’ve also garnered Grammy nominations and spearheaded the movement of modern American festival culture by launching and headlining Lollapalooza.

In the fall of 1976 The Marshall Tucker Band went to the UK and Europe for their only tour so far in those territories. The tour featured Bonnie Bramlett and Grinders Switch as support acts. The band was red hot in America and the time was right to spread the word to other countries. Founding member and lead singer Doug Gray remembers "We didn't know what to expect but from the people at the hotel to the crew at the Hammersmith Odeon and finally the sold out crowd all made us feel so welcome we couldn't believe it. It was the same in Scotland with a different accent." When the label and band decided to release the new version of Greatest Hits on vinyl, they had the space to include these three live tracks, recorded in Glasgow, Scotland, and London, England, which have never before been released.

 Piano Man
Billy Joel
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Billy Joel’s Piano Man established a legend via two elements that became a trademark of his career: simple, yet disarmingly effective lyrics that speak to universal truths and instilled feelings of pathos. With the classic title track, Joel captures the emotions and expectations all of us—consciously or not—attach to our favorite musicians: “Sing us a song you're the piano man/Sing us a song tonight/Well we're all in the mood for a melody/And you've got us feeling alright,” he croons. Indeed, Joel has everyone feeling good on this breakout set.
Never before properly remastered, Mobile Fidelity secured the original master tapes to present this 1973 singer-songwriter masterwork in unparalleled fidelity. The cavity of Joel’s piano, tension of the strings, and reach of his voice are astounding on this numbered limited-edition LP pressing. The New York native finally seems as if he’s playing in your room rather than down the hall.
After the commercial failure of his debut, and resulting legal disputes with his label, a determined Joel took up a six
month residency as a lounge singer in Los Angeles. The vocalist continued to pen songs, including his signature track, “Piano Man,” a fictional narrative motivated by the real-life stories and actions of the patrons he witnessed during his cocktail club residency. Joel also drew inspiration from a fellow peer with whom he’d ultimately collaborate on a series of highly successful tours that continue to this day: Elton John. The Englishman’s Tumbleweed Connection fueled a creative spurt in Joel, who extends the record’s Western imagery and bluesy themes.
Ignoring introspection in favor of rich character sketches, Joel utilizes his knack for melodic flair, filling out the songs with comprehensive arrangements and a swift sense of purpose. His tales—“The Ballad of Billy the Kid,” “Captain Jack,” “Ain’t No Crime”—are supported with phenomenal harmonies and thematic flavors that arrive courtesy of instrumental accents from first-rate players that include guitarist Larry Carlton, banjoist Fred Heilbrun, and drummer Ron Tutt. Joel supplies the requisite emotions, and Piano Man oozes with life.
Mobile Fidelity’s 180g LP possesses a warmth that, until now, none of Joel’s records possess. Soundstaging, imaging, and immediacy are refined and mannered, and the enthusiasm and completeness of Joel’s craft come into supreme focus.
No fan of 70s rock or pop should be without this stellar pressing!

Stones' Classic Remastered on 180g LP
Universal Music Group and The Rolling Stones present the remastered version of their groundbreaking 1978 album, Some Girls, which introduced the band to a whole new generation of fans. Justly considered one of the finest works by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Ronnie Wood, Some Girls topped the US charts over three decades ago and remains the best selling album of their storied career.
Some Girls is the Rolling Stones' most direct and diverse collection of material from Mick Jagger's irresistible falsetto on the four-on-the-floor filler "Miss You," their eighth U.S. #1, to the country-flavored "Far Away Eyes" via the Chuck Berry meets punk snarl of "Respectable." And let's not forget the sensuous, "Beast of Burden," one of Keith Richards' finest tunes, which reached #8 on the U.S. singles chart, the garage rocker "Shattered," the albums' third U.S. Top 40 entry, and the soulful swagger of the group's version of The Temptations' "Just My Imagination," another timeless offering in their canon of classic Stones Motown covers.
Following the critical praise and commercial success afforded the re-mastered, expanded editions of Exile On Main Street, which matched the chart performance of the epochal 1972 album, and returned the Rolling Stones to their rightful place at the top of the British charts in 2010, the extensive reissue of Some Girls constitutes the next step in the band's ongoing relationship with Universal Music Group.
Some Girls holds a special place in the history of the Rolling Stones and demonstrates why they remain one of the most thrilling and influential bands of all time. The 1978 album features the Keith Richards' classic "Before They Make Me Run," a signature song he still performs defiantly to this day. Some Girls documented Mick Jagger's love of 1970's funk reflected in "Miss You," the dance track that wrong footed many people, made the club and black charts, and made it okay for other mainstream acts at the time to 'go disco'.
The 1978 album also courted controversy because of Jagger's tongue-in-cheek lyrics on the title track, on "Miss You" and on "Respectable," perceived as a retort to the punk and new wave groups who had borrowed so much attitude and copped so many anti-establishment moves from the Rolling Stones. Ironically, the furor around the elaborate Some Girls package, designed by Peter Corriston and featuring the band members in drag, a nod in the direction of the picture on the 1966 single "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" and likenesses of Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Raquel Welch, Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe that hadn't been legally cleared, necessitating a swift withdrawal and rethink.
Some Girls demonstrated the distinctive and definitive riffing from Keith Richards, with its abundance of unstoppable licks and majestic power chords driving the band into its brand new musical direction. This album not only defined him and his playing, but also defined a new era for the Rolling Stones, with Richards since described as "a sense of renewal." Some Girls marks the only other time since recording "Satisfaction" where Richards used an effects pedal to 'elevate' the sound.
The album cemented the position of guitarist Ronnie Wood, who had joined in 1975, and added his trademark slide and pedal steel playing to several of the album's most memorable tracks, including "When the Whip Comes Down" and "Shattered." He also co-wrote the "Shattered" B-side "Everything Is Turning To Gold." Some Girls also marked a move to the Pathe Marconi Studios in Paris for the Glimmer Twins production team of Jagger and Richards. These factors helped what is arguably the group's most focused and dynamic album, driven by the sans pareil rhythm section of drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman.
Some Girls featured fewer guest musicians than any Rolling Stones album since 1971, but the contributions keyboard-player Ian McLagan, Wood's bandmate in The Faces, saxophone-player Mel Collins, and harmonica player Sugar Blue (discovered busking on the Paris metro), made "Miss You" in particular sound brighter than ever.
Thirty-three years on from its original release, the re-mastered vinyl edition of Some Girls shows exactly why the 1978 album has often been hailed as the equal of Exile On Main Street. The album stands as both a time capsule and a timeless listen and it features the band at their tightest and toughest, at their most vibrant and vital.

 Johnny Winter
Johnny Winter
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
When an international weekly magazine calls a musician the "white pope of black art", then it sounds suspiciously like charitableness towards a blues musician in his prime, whose good years are in the past. As if! In the case of Johnny Winter, the reviews of his 2011 tour were just as glowing as in his early years, when Rolling Stone magazine described the gaunt Mississippi bard as "a cross-eyed albino with long fleecy hair playing some of the gutsiest fluid blues guitar you have ever heard". Intentional or not: Winter was able to win for himself some of the "rocker" laurels that were reserved for the young Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. But Winter let everyone know that he was only interested in the blues, gutsy, evoking Howlin’ Wolf’s and Muddy Waters' growling groove, yet nimble-fingered enough on the strings to conjure up astoundingly sleek garlands of sound that fit precisely into each bar of music.
Winter remains pretty cool when people attempt to identify personal afflictions in his music: "When I play blues, I feel good," he stated recently to a journalist. That the same goes for over 40 years ago is substantiated by both sides of this debut album.

 Tchaikovsky - The Sleeping Beauty
Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky
$109.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed
|
His symphonies are ballets, his ballets are symphonies; such has often been said about Tchaikovsky’s lengthy dance compositions. This opinion is not entirely due to the fact that these works had to please the audience without being danced to after Diaghilev’s legendary ballet company was dissolved. Rather more, Tchaikovsky’s instrumental and incidental music is pervaded by movement and dance rhythms that act as a musical scaffolding. Almost as legendary as the incomparable heritage of Russian music is the reputation of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, whose recordings are famed for their lush and saturated sound colouring.
Ansermet transforms the score into a veritable firework of sound, without ever straining after cheap effects by means of a thunderous sound; the strings are clean and warm in all registers, the brass volleys blare out keenly, and the percussion is dauntlessly resolute. This performance and Decca’s customary excellent sound recording render great homage to this music. All the more reason to be glad that this particular Sleeping Beauty has been awakened at long last.

 For The Good Times
Norah Jones & The Little Willies
$22.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
“I love playing country music,” says Norah Jones. “More than any other genre, it makes me feel at home.” Over the past 10 years, The Little Willies, a group of friends and like-minded souls that includes Lee Alexander (bass), Jim Campilongo (guitar), Norah Jones (piano, vocals), Richard Julian (guitar, vocals), and Dan Rieser (drums), have periodically gathered to make music for fun, playing their favorite country tunes and conjuring that down-home spirit.
With their second album, For the Good Times, The Little Willies take on songs by such masters as Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Dolly Parton. The results demonstrate the joy they take, and commitment they make, to a project that was first born for purely practical reasons.
Material for the new album was taken from the Willies’ live repertoire, and by passing around ideas drawn from disparate sources. The selections include more surprising choices, like the trucker classic “Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves” and “Foul Owl on the Prowl,” from the soundtrack to In the Heat of the Night. Alongside the more obscure songs, though, For the Good Times also includes some of the best-known songs in the history of country music, like Parton’s “Jolene” and the title track, written by Kristofferson and made famous by such singers as Ray Price and Al Green.
Track Listing:
1. I Worship You (Ralph Stanley) – Norah & Richard vocals
2. Remember Me (Scott Wiseman) – Norah vocals
3. Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves (Cal Martin) – Norah & Richard vocals
4. Lovesick Blues (Cliff Friend/Irving Mills) – Norah & Richard vocals

After the demise of Andy Sturmer and Roger Manning's Beatnick Beatch, the two recruited Roger's brother Chris and former Three O'Clock guitarist Jason Falkner to create Jellyfish. While Jason and Chris left after the first album and tour, the follow-up, Spilt Milk, was created by Andy and Roger with help from Jon Brion (Aimee Mannn, Kanye West, Fiona Apple, Spoon), Lyle Workman (Todd Rundgren, Bourgeois Tagg, Beck) and T-Bone Wolk (Hall & Oates).
Even though the group lasted for only two albums and four years, their influence on power pop bands since has been as profound as the bands that Jellyfish were influenced by: Cheap Trick, Big Star, Badfinger, Raspberries, Brian Wilson and more, all part of the power pop tradition being handed down one generation at a time.
Omnivore Recordings release of the two Jellyfish albums on LP marks the fist time either have been commercially available on vinyl in the U.S. Bellybutton was only released on vinyl as a promotional item in 1999, its only official release at the time was on CD. Free Again: The "1970" Sessions
Alex Chilton
$24.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In the latter months of 1969, somewhere between the moon landing and the start of the Vietnam draft, the concerts at Woodstock and Altamont, Alex Chilton decided to take back his life. During that annus mirabilis, while the world experienced a generationally sparked social, political, and cultural upheaval, the 18-year-old Chilton was in the midst of a revolution of his own.
For the past year, Chilton had been strapped in a creative, professional, and personal straitjacket. He was the lead singer of a million-selling band, The Box Tops, but felt like little more than a puppet of the group’s producers. In the era of free love, he’d been pressured into a shotgun marriage and fatherhood. And he’d ultimately come to see himself as the pawn of an unscrupulous business machine, sent to grind it out on the road in a series of silly lip-synched TV performances and one-night stands while someone else cashed his checks.
As he entered the studio that summer to make his first solo recordings, the man who would come to define the very spirit of musical independence was still bound in chains. At a time where liberation and self-expression were rallying cries, Alex Chilton was about to break free. Free Again: The "1970" Sessions features the first solo recordings from Chilton post-Box Tops, pre-Big Star mixed and engineered by Terry Manning.

Love & Rockets Vol. 1: The Transformation
Murs
$19.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Murs is the hardest-working rapper alive. If he's not running circles around America as part of Paid Dues, the annual hip-hop festival that he created and organized, he's doing backflips across a stage in Budapest, or shaking hands with fans in Japan before catching a bullet train to a packed in-store performance. When he's not on the road, he's in the studio, feverishly adding album after album to a cavernous discography which boasts projects released by major-label behemoths like Warner Bros. clear across the industry spectrum to indie powerhouses like Rhymesayers and Def Jux, a testament to the respect this man commands from the underground and commercial world alike. And all from a guy who only got a manager three years ago.
To hear him tell it, he has no choice but to work hard. From the rhymes in his notepad to the hair on his head, Murs is not your average rapper. Hell, he's not your average guy. Never has been. "I'm just a nerd, man," he laughs. "I've always walked different, dressed different." His stomping grounds is the Mid-City area of Los Angeles, the kind of neighborhood where cornrows and Chuck Taylors are decidedly more common than dreadlocks and Vans, so Murs was on his own from early on. "I would always get on the bus and hear 'ay cuz, ay blood, what's wrong with your hair?'" Those were the days when he first put pen to paper and began perfecting what he calls 'sitcom rap': songs about the everyday life of those of us who don't live in the hood, and don't live in Hollywood either – the life the majority of us are living. Listening to Murs is something like listening to a regular guy who just happens to know how to rap. His lyrics are straightforward, down-to-earth, and honest, delivered with a vocal tone and forcefulness that recalls a slightly more relaxed Ice Cube.

A proficient and Classically trained violinist, Pierre Monteux, he premiered Stravinsky's Petrushka (1911), Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe (1912), The Rite of Spring (1913), Debussy's Jeux (1913)!
On this 180 Gram Audiophile 2LP 45rpm Pressing you'll hear extraordinarily lush harmonies, pointed French phrasing, an absence of sentimentality, and an intuitive feeling for Ravel's meshing of classic-erotic. A Masterpiece for Orchestra! "Monteux's interpretation fits the piece like a glove. Flowing tempos knit the orchestral fabric together effortlessly into the "choreographic symphony" of the work's subtitle, without stinting on atmosphere or sheer color. The opening is mysterious but not sluggish. Ravel's sunrise reaches a glorious apotheosis, with the choir well-balanced in the mix. The quicker bits have plenty of excitement and glitter." - Classics Today "From the mysterious, exotic opening of the introduction, Monteux and the LSO capture the lushness and richness of the harmonies with an unbridled sense of French passion. The many different sections are linked through Ravel's subtle and delicate transitions; they achieve a real transparency under Monteux's clear hand... The clarity of the choral singing is excellent -- the frequently subtle changes of pitch, often lost in murkiness in other performances, are gently but clearly emphasized here with taste. Monteux, a violinist by training, compels his LSO string players to play Ravel's harmonics with a real core and edge to the sound, minus the usual French wispiness." - All Music Guide

David Oistrakh's performance here is Absolutely Stunning! This classic recording features the conducting talents of Jascha Horenstein (Bruch) & Paul Hindemith (Hindemith) accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra. David Oistrakh is considered one of the best violinist of the twentieth century, premiering new concerti by Nikolai Miaskovsky and Khachaturian as well as two sonatas by his friend Sergei Prokofiev!
This timeless gem is revealed here in all its passion and sonic glory. Mastered directly from the 1962 half-inch analogue tape 15ips tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on 180g 45rpm Audiophile Vinyl at RTI, this is truly a one-of-a-kind Musical Journey! "Hindemith's concerto has never before blossomed into such rewarding lyricism. Even the orchestral contribution under the composer himself is strikingly passionate and with the soloist to provide many moments when the ear is ravished by the beauty of phrasing and inflection, the listener has much to enjoy.
The recording is one of the very finest ever made of the combination of solo violin and orchestra. The Oistrakh/Horenstein performance completely displaces its competitors. It is marvelously well recorded -- Oistrakh has never sounded so real on a disc before -- and the reading owes nearly as much to the conductor as the soloist. The expansive dignity of the opening of the brass sets shows immediately how fine the orchestral contribution is going to be and Oistrakh's playing throughout is ravishing, raising the statue of the work immeasurably. The slow movement is especially memorable." - Rated 19/20 in Robert Moon, Blue Back Guide

1970 was a really good year for Blood, Sweat & Tears. The colourful, distinguished group was awarded a Grammy® in the categories “Album of the Year”, “Best Contemporary Instrumental Performance”, and “Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)“.
The concept of merging jazz, blues and arrangements of classical themes worked well, with music journalist Leonard Feather commenting that »it brought music into rock«.
Everything seemed to be allowed – as long as it sounded good: almost spontaneously, it seems, the musicians develop a somewhat boozy, cheery "Hi-De-Ho" happening out of synthetically created chivalric fanfares, or conjure up a medieval scenario ("The Battle") with the archaic sound of a harpsichord and solo voice. That caustic big-band soul ("Lucrezia MacEvil") and seemingly familiar rock songs ("Fire And Rain") find their niche here fits in with the free spirit of this third album, which boasts no otherwise specified title. One listens to this disc, wondering what surprise is in store in the next beat, the next phrase, the next number. And there is a wonderfully liberating feeling in knowing that nothing is a ‘must’ but all is allowed.

Let's Go Eat At The Factory
Guided By Voices
$16.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
After a fifteen year hiatus, the "classic line up" of Guided By Voices (Robert Pollard, Tobin Sprout, Mitch Mitchell, Greg Demos, and Kevin Fennell) finishes off its year-long reunion tour by releasing an album of 21 new songs, deliberately choosing to return to what bandleader Robert Pollard calls the "semi-collegial" approach of iconic GBV albums like Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes. Let's Go Eat The Factory is much more than a mere return, however: sprawling, variegated, heavy, melodic, and yet still recognizably and coherently Guided By Voices in both its literal and mythic senses. "At first I said: no reunion, period," explains Pollard about the decision to revive Guided By Voices. "And definitely no record or re-formation. But the tour went so well; the response was really unexpected. I thought at some point that a lot of people would like to hear new GBV music. The chemistry was still there."
Choosing to eschew the recording studio, Let's Go Eat The Factory was instead manufactured in the living rooms, basements, and garages of various long-time bandmembers. Some tracks were recorded more-or-less live at Mitch Mitchell's garage, where the band would often practice back in the early and mid-90s. These sessions comprised Mitch, Bob, and Jimmy Pollard, Bob's brother and long-time collaborator, who, though never a part of the touring ensemble, always played a crucial role on the classic-era releases. Some tracks were improvised over acoustic jam sessions at Greg Demos' house. Many were recorded at Tobin Sprout's place in Wherever, Michigan, and later lovingly fucked with in order to achieve the proper level of weirdness. Band members occasionally switched instruments (Bob plays drums; Mitch plays drums; Kevin plays drums; Jimmy Pollard plays bass; Greg plays lead guitar; Toby plays pretty much everything; etc.), and Bob gladly accepted input from other band members. Tobin Sprout wrote or co-wrote and sings on six out of the 21 songs.
The aesthetic is very much in keeping with Guided By Voices, but in some unexpected ways (more prevalent use of keyboards and samples, for one thing) the 21st century can't help but poke its nose into the resulting music. Devoted fans of Bee Thousand will not be disappointed in, for instance, the demonically tuneful "Chocolate Boy," or the relentless chug of "We Won't Apologize For The Human Race," which Tobin Sprout describes as "Peter Gabriel singing 'I Am The Walrus.'" Other standouts include "Doughnut For A Snowman," which Pollard calls "the goofiest, twinkliest song I've ever written," and "Spider Fighter," a Tobin Sprout number that was in fact the first song title conceived for the new album, and which features a piano coda that Pollard likens to "a Pete Townshend demo for Lifehouse."
Track Listing:

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Box Set - 14 LPs Sealed

Strictly Limited-Edition Set Comprises Recordings Primarily Made Between 1947 and 1954
Unrivaled Sonics: First Time Original RIAS Berlin Tapes Have Been Made Available
With the great demand for the LP version of their internationally successful Furtwängler 12CD box set, Audite presents a selection of recordings in LP format for audiophile vinyl enthusiasts. Containing compositions by Beethoven, Bruckner, Schubert, Brahms and Wagner, the LP boxed set (comprising 14LPs on 180g vinyl) presents the principal works of the CD boxed set. The majority of the concerts given by Wilhelm Furtwängler and the Berlin Philharmonic between 1947 and 1954 were recorded by the RIAS Berlin. The original tapes from the RIAS archives have been made available for the first time for this edition so these recordings also offer unsurpassed technical quality.
These RIAS recordings are documents of historical value: they contain a major part of Furtwängler’s late oeuvre as a conductor, which was characterised by a high level of focus in different respects. Focus on repertoire which has at its core the symphonic works of Beethoven, Brahms and Bruckner (CD & LP box) and is supplemented by works by Bach and Handel and also by topical composers of the time, including Hindemith, Blacher and Fortner (CD box only): artists who were counted amongst the members of “moderate modernism” and who were not perceived to have been tainted by the cultural politics of the National Socialists.
Focus was also a guiding principle in Furtwängler’s concert programs which always feature a particular idea. His interpretations also demonstrate extremely high levels of focus: concentration and focus for him meant a contemporary decoding, a re-creation, which would express the fundamental content of a work. A number of works, the Third, Fifth and Sixth Symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven as well as Johannes Brahms’ Third Symphony, are included in two interpretations. They reveal how Furtwängler was able to accentuate different aspects of a work whilst maintaining the same, clear basic conception, and how the actual interpretation depended on the context of the particular program.
The production is part of Audite's series "Legendary Recordings“ and bears the quality feature “1st Master Release.“ This term stands for the excellent quality of archival productions at Audite. All historical publications at Audite are based, without exception, on the original tapes from broadcasting archives. In general these are the original analog tapes, which attain an astonishingly high quality, even measured by today‘s standards, with their tape speed of up to 76 cm/sec. The remastering, professionally competent and sensitively applied, also uncovers previously hidden details of the interpretations.

Numbered Limited Edition 180g LP from Mobile Fidelity
1994 Self-Titled Major-Label Debut a Folk-Blues Classic
Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Gorgeous Vocal Inflections, Astonishing Acoustic Guitar Lines Possess Incredible Detail
Pure Blues: National Steel Guitar Playing, Raw Harmonica Solos, Soulful Strumming Infuse Originals and Pair of Covers
In an age where most contemporary bluesmen strive to mimic the past and pattern their music after the greats, Keb' Mo' is content to be himself. Original, charismatic, and immensely gifted, the guitarist/vocalist (born Kevin Moore) brings country blues in the late 20th century on his stunning self-titled Epic debut, which quickly climbed the charts and turned the former backing instrumentalist into a household name. Replete with gritty textures, close-up vocals, and resplendent acoustics, Mobile Fidelity’s scintillating analog version of this 1994 set finally possesses the fidelity that brings Mo’s Delta strains out of the backwoods and onto a lively back porch.
Half-speed mastered from the original tapes, this numbered limited-edition 180g LP represents the very first time that Mo’s watershed album has been given a much-needed sonic facelift. Gone are the hazes that obscured his singing, artificial ceilings that blunted the highs, and digital fog that interfered with the multitude of illuminating tones, details, and notes. What’s revealed is startling intimacy and soothing emotion, Mo’s gorgeous vocal timbres and inflections given equal space with his guitar, harmonica, and pace. Finally, a great-sounding contemporary blues record that doesn’t resort to derivative recycling and bland revivalism.
The son of Southern parents, Mo' channels his heritage via a batch of superb folksy songs that relax, refresh, and regale. While he’s since traveled in a more commercialized pop-oriented direction, Mo’s initial salvo is nothing but raw, pure blues played with unbridled passion, tremendous conviction, and what is best deemed the essence of heart and soul. Keb' Mo' engages with a compelling mix of tradition and modernity, the headliner refraining from any attempt at assuming an artificial personality and instead basing his reputation on quality songs. As such, Mo’s material resonates with deep, mellow vibes and extraordinary National steel guitar work, which complements his fluid, acoustic finger-picking and soulful strumming.
Mo' occasionally teams with an ensemble. But this record is mostly all about the basics: guitar, voice, and harmonica. Tunes such as “Victims of Comfort” and “Angelina” testify on behalf of his phenomenal country-blues songwriting; his covers of Robert Johnson’s “Come On In My Kitchen” and “Kindhearted Woman Blues” speak to his reverence for the past. Shuffles, ballads, dance songs—Mo nails them all.
You owe it to yourself to hear this master musician in the finest possible sound. Every movement on the guitar fretboard, every breath Mo' takes before exhaling words, every crisp and gutsy pluck of the strings—they have never possessed more dynamics, detail, or life. Imaging and soundstaging are incredible.
Keb' Mo' remains one of the finest blues albums made in the post-Stevie Ray Vaughan era. Don’t miss this American gem that so many have since tried to copy.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed

On March 7, 1963 Coltrane and Hartman had decided on 10 songs for the record album, but en route to the studio they heard Nat King Cole on the radio performing "Lush Life", and Hartman immediately decided that song had to be included in their album. The legendary compilation was made that same day at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Each song was done in only one take, except for "You Are Too Beautiful."
The album has become an instant jazz classic, and the renditions of "Lush Life", "My One and Only Love", and "They Say It's Wonderful" are considered definitive.
Recorded March 7, 1963. Produced by Bob Thiele, Engineered by Rudy Van Gelder.
"Rudy Van Gelder recorded both sets [ORGLP 17 John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman & ORGLP 27 Johnny Hartman / I Just Dropped By To Say Hello], and they display Hartman's voice amidst a mildly reverberant soundfield, which the 45rpm format exposes to its very limits. Piano is captured particularly well, preserving its timbre and delicate ambience. The 180-gram LPs, pressed at Pallas in Germany, are exceptionally quiet, exposing the texture of Hartman's voice and delicate dynamic gradations of Coltrane's achingly beautiful playing all the better." - Marc Mickelson, www.theaudiobeat.com, Music 5/5, Sound 4/5
"Rudy Van Gelder’s recording is sympathetic to the musical setting, with Hartman center stage, looming large and just kissed with reverb. Even Tyner’s piano sounds clean and well-textured, while Coltrane and Jones share a channel, with the tenor sax upfront and the drums pushed appropriately behind." - Michael Fremer, www.musicangle.com, Music 10, Sound 9

Best of Disco Demands Vol. 1
Al Kent
$22.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

The Disco Demands series started sometime in the early 2000s - I couldn't give you an exact year because it didn't feel like a big deal, so I never noted it. I simply wanted to put out a compilation of some records I really liked and maybe make a little of the money back I was spending on them. Buy some food and stuff.
There's always been Disco comps around of course but there was rarely anything that strayed too far from the standards.. the same songs kept appearing over and over again, or the comps would feature records you could pick up anywhere for little money. I've never seen the point in that. I gave up judging a record on its value or rarity a long time ago but surely there's more to disco than Exodus, Martin Circus, Mass Production and all those Salsoul, West End and bloody Prelude records. So it was a nice surprise to find that there were other people out there who thought the same way.
Volume 1 was pretty straightforward - just some nice records, with the only edit being an instrumental of Disco Socks; a strange, thinly veiled reference to the disco sucks movement. Then on Volume 2 I included a few of my edits and introduced the cover up concept to the disco world. That caused a bit of controversy, which of course I loved. And so it continued for five volumes.
What we have here then is the full series, give or take one or two cuts, all remastered, many re-re-edited, with lots of nice naked pictures to boot. For those who've asked since day one "will there be vinyl" I can finally say yes, you're holding it!

 Rachmaninoff: Symphonic Dances
Eiji Oue
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Sergei Rachmaninoff was one of the most beloved composers of the 2oth century. His music is redolent of his Russian homeland, and it sings long, lush melodies that define the term "romantic." Everyone who knows and loves his piano concertos will enjoy these lyrical and dynamic works for orchestra. The Symphonic Dances in recent years have become one of Rachmaninoff’s most-performed scores. "Vocalise" is one of the great classical melodies, and is hummable by everyone. Grammy nominated in 2003 for Best Engineered Album - Classical; Keith O. Johnson, engineer.
"This may be some of the best sound Keith Johnson has ever gotten out of Symphony Hall in Minneapolis, and certainly Oue's most convincing work with the Minnesota players, who sound for all the world more like the Philadelphia than that orchestra does these days. How Johnson got that huge climax at the end of the Dances cleanly onto tape transcends engineering and goes into the realm of magic." - Harry Pearson, The Absolute Sound
"No one can approach Reference Recordings' unparalleled sound in this music. The sweet liquid presence of the high end, especially the critical massed strings, approaches perfection when it blends with RR's characteristic ambient soundstage, fine inner detail and bass impact." - Arthur B. Lintgen, The Absolute Sound
"Even by the exalted standards one has come to expect from Reference Recordings, this is something extraordinary. This is the kind of recording that gives one renewed faith in the possibility of reproducing the power and beauty of an orchestra in a home environment, the kind of thing that makes audio worthwhile. Not to be missed." - Robert E. Greene, The Absolute Sound
"The recording is once again absolutely stunning, brilliant and plushy at the same time, unequaled by another label in this piece." – Peter Aczel, The Audio Critic
"Overall, the sound is the best I’ve ever heard from Reference Recordings. That also means that overall there’s none better that you can currrently purchase. You don't need any more details, just trust me and run out and buy it." – Karl Lozier, www.enjoythemusic.com
"Once again, Keith Johnson has raised the bar of excellence in the recording of a symphony orchestra. It's a fabulous recording and a super performance of the Symphonic Dances, and a testament to the brilliance of Keith Johnson and his associates." - Anthony Kershaw, Audiophilia.com
This title is not eligible for further discount.

 Clear Heart Full Eyes
Craig Finn
$19.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Clear Heart Full Eyes is the Vagrant Records solo debut album from, Craig Finn, frontman for the critically acclaimed group The Hold Steady. In early 2011, Finn challenged himself to write a new song every day in his Brooklyn, NY apartment. "I had written a bunch of songs that were outside of the norm for The Hold Steady, a little quieter and perhaps more narrative," says Finn. "I wanted to gain some experience and insight into the process of making a record by working with new people."
Finn traveled to Austin, Texas in July, removing himself from all familiar surroundings, to record the album with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail of Dead). Of the album's title, Finn says, ”It's a juxtaposed reference to 'Friday Night Lights,' a TV show that excited and moved me and also happened in Texas. Further, Clear Heart signifies honesty and transparency, and Full Eyes suggests experience."

 Voyageur
Kathleen Edwards
$24.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Kathleen Edwards’ Voyageur is the acclaimed Canadian singer/songwriter’s fourth album, and her first since 2008's Asking for Flowers. Co-produced with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Voyageur is less of a departure than it is a journey, and like any transforming trip, it demands that we let go of any preconceptions about the destination. Voyageur evokes a spectrum of overwhelming feelings within the atmosphere of a lucid dream. Edwards’ characters speak to the grief, loneliness, shock, and confusion that come with endings as well as the hope and irrepressible joy that accompany new beginnings, but the stories are told with a seductively quiet strength. Aided by the musical support of Justin Vernon and Norah Jones, Voyageur features such standout tracks such as “Change the Sheets,” “Mint” and “A Soft Place to Land.”

 El Camino
Black Keys, The
$26.99
Vinyl LP + CD - Sealed
|
Reviewing The Black Keys' 2010 Top Ten breakthrough album Brothers, Rolling Stone called the duo "a two-man combo with a big-band mind." That description seems downright prophetic now. With the hard-rocking El Camino, The Black Keys' fourth Nonesuch release, guitarist-singer Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney conjure up an exhilarating, stadium-sized sound in collaboration with producer and friend Danger Mouse. El Camino boasts a no-nonsense brilliance: The pace is fast, the mood is upbeat, the choruses unfailingly addictive — made for shouting along, preferably in a large, sweaty crowd.
A band already at the top of its game has gotten even better. And The Black Keys have done pretty damn well so far this year, with three 2011 Grammy awards for Brothers under their belt, an MTV Video Music Award for "Tighten Up," more than 850,000 copies of Brothers sold in the U.S., and upwards of a million units worldwide, plus innumerable licensing placements in film, TV, and commercials. El Camino features one stand-out track after another, such as first single "Lonely Boy," "Gold on the Ceiling," and the surprising, acoustic-guitar-driven, tempo-shifting "Little Black Submarines."
"This record is more straight ahead rock and roll — raw, driving, and back to basics," says Auerbach. As Carney has put it, The Black Keys "respect the past while being in the present," and that formula has made them sound like nothing less than the future of rock and roll. While the largely self-produced Brothers, recorded at the famed Muscle Shoals Studio in Alabama, had a more soul and blues-oriented sound, El Camino often recalls the blitzkrieg-paced British-style rock of the 1960s and 70s, post-Beatles and pre-punk: artists like T-Rex, The Sweet, and Gary Glitter, along with the heavier swing of such bands as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
The references are there, but the sound is very much contemporary and utterly their own, equally informed by The Black Keys' passion for hip hop and R&B and bolstered by the atmospheric production approach of Danger Mouse (a.k.a. Brian Burton), who was behind the boards for 2008's Attack & Release and collaborated with them on the funky "Tighten Up" for Brothers. As Auerbach notes, "Brian understands all the different kinds of music we're into. He's got really great ideas about melody and song structure. For him it's all about the song." Also rejoining them is consistently innovative mixing engineer Tchad Blake, who Auerbach calls "a genius with audio, a complete wizard."
El Camino arrives just in time to serve as the ideal holiday gift for The Black Keys' rapidly growing fan base. It came together quickly in an unfettered burst of creativity by the hard-charging pair. They recorded these 11 tracks between tour dates for Brothers at Auerbach's new Easy Eye Studio in Nashville, where he and Carney have now relocated after years of working in their native Akron, Ohio. The duo plans to embark on a six week European Tour at the start of the New Year, with U.S. dates to follow shortly thereafter-including several arenas.
In a time of global austerity, The Black Keys work simply and efficiently, with a minimum of tools and a wealth of ideas, to produce the richest, fattest, coolest music around. Upon the release of Brothers last year, Britain's Uncut magazine called them "one of the best rock'n'roll bands on the planet," and El Camino, confirms that.

 A Good Day
Priscilla Ahn
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
As the label that founded Norah Jones, Blue Note strikes singer-songwriter gold again with Priscilla Ahn. The charming folk artist honed her skills at various L.A. clubs before translating her magnetic, intimate style on one of the new decade's most impressive debuts, A Good Day. Rife with organic production, subtly complex arrangements, and wise lyrics, the album signals the arrival of a talent on par with female contemporaries Jones and Sara Bareilles.
Mastered from the original master tapes by Mobile Fidelity, A Good Day sounds positively exquisite on 180g LP, the very first time this sure-to-be audiophile vocal favorite has been made available on vinyl. While Mobile Fidelity typically issues albums that are at least a decade old, the label's engineers and decision makers felt too strongly about Ahn's 2008 album to squander any opportunity to release it. Such is the capacious amount of low-level detail, acoustic information, timbral presence, natural dynamics, and wide-spectrum frequency response present on a vocal-dominant effort that sparkles sonically as well as musically. A Good Day is the kind of airy album meant for high-end turntables, analog-friendly amplifiers, a cozy seat, and glass of fine Bordeaux.
Helmed by noted producer and Beck colleague Joey Waronker, A Good Day teems with understated string sections, fingerpicked arpeggios, rustic atmospherics, and confident harmonies. Ahn's relaxed, rural-based childhood memories work their way into delicate ballads and cozy midtempo strummers, as does her more recent stint in California's sun-baked environs. Simultaneously innocent and experienced, she's equally at home with tender love-struck admissions as she is with tough-skinned declarations. Always in control, her lyrics and music belie her then-24-year-old age.
Fans of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Laura Nyro should immediately be drawn to Ahn's personal, intimate vibes. The upstart multi-instrumentalist not only plays guitar but also masters autoharp, piano, ukulele, Wurlitzer organ, bells, and glockenspiel on tracks rife with texture and color. Yet the main attraction remains Ahn's wispy, clear, dream-like voice. Soft and sensual, spirited and soothing, her coos, whispers, and wordless flights take off like a breeze on a clear summer day, gently blowing against fields of golden flowers and pillowy clouds.
Indeed, Ahn's is a comforting voice you'll want to experience in the highest-possible fidelity. Experience the blissful aural sensations and myriad sonic hues delivered by Mobile Fidelity's numbered limited-edition 180g LP, and luxuriate in acoustic folk-pop that brightens moods, massages the senses, and clings to the soul as well as any you've heard in recent memory.

 Which Side Are You On?
Ani DiFranco
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Ani DiFranco releases her eagerly awaited album Which Side Are You On? on the Grammy-winning artist’s own Righteous Babe Records. The release marks DiFranco’s first studio album in more than three years. The collection features 11 new songs alongside a radically reworked rendition of the classic title song, famously popularized by the one and only Pete Seeger nearly five decades ago, but no less relevant today.
Backing DiFranco is a remarkably diverse line-up of stellar musicians, including members of her own crack touring band as well as such guest players as Ivan and Cyril Neville (of New Orleans’ first family of funk and R&B, The Neville Brothers), avant-saxophonist Skerik (Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Bonnie Raitt, The Meters), acclaimed singer/songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, guitarist Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman, Amos Lee), and a host of New Orleans-based horn players known for their work in such outfits as Galactic, Bonerama, and The Rebirth Brass Band.
The newly recorded version of "Which Side Are You On?" is a funk-fueled epic, incorporating not just Ani’s band, but Pete Seeger himself on banjo and vocals alongside The Rivertown Kids, a Hudson Valley-based children’s chorus, and The Roots of Music Marching Crusaders, a brass band consisting of students from The Roots of Music, a music education program for at-risk middle-school students in New Orleans. DiFranco contributed her own straight-from-the headlines verses to the song and has used it to close her own live shows ever since. The album represents an extraordinary snapshot of DiFranco’s own life as well her sense of where the country stands at this particular moment in time.
