 Diamond Life
Sade
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Elegance, class, and sophistication barely begins to describe the sound of Sade. Her 1984 debut album, Diamond Life, shimmers with glamour and style, a sleek, catchy hybrid of pop, soul and jazz. The album was driven by an irresistible sound, mood music that crosses over to dance with excellent musicianship and clever lyrics.
Diamond Life spawned her first Top 10 U.S. hit, the bossa nova-tinged, "Smooth Operator," with its unforgettable sax work, a true classic. Other standouts are the swinging horn-peppered "Your Love Is King," the retro-funk of "When Am I Going To Make A Living," the tender and lovely "I Will Be Your Friend," as well as an imaginative remake of Timmy Thomas' 1971 hit "Why Can't We Live Together" (with an extremely long, brilliant jazzy intro heavy with congas).
Diamond Life had international sales of over six million, becoming one of the top-selling debut recordings of the '80s and the best selling debut ever by a British female vocalist. There has never been a lead singer quite like former model Sade Adu, her cool vocals and exotic looks grabbed everyone's attention. Her ponytails, large hoop earrings and backless dresses, and the fantastic blue-tinged black and white cover art offered up a retro look to match the sound. Everything shimmers here with a sultry yet subtle beauty, pulling you into an atmosphere of a midnight lounge or the club scene from which Sade first emerged. Diamond Life is the album that started it all!

 Reckoning
Grateful Dead
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Cut From the Original Analog Masters and Pressed on 200g Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings
In the fall of 1980, the Grateful Dead purposefully played a series of shows at two venues, the Warfield Theater in San Francisco and Radio City Music Hall in New York City, that were considerably smaller than the stadiums and arenas they were, by that point, regularly selling out. They did so with the express interest of recording in an intimate space the opening portion of each show, a stripped-down acoustic set featuring Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir playing acoustic guitars, Brent Mydland playing piano, drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart playing reduced kits and bassist Phil Lesh turning his electric volume down considerably.
The group chose a set list of classic folk and country tunes mixed with their originals and Reckoning is a very obvious ode to the band's early 1960s origins of folk, bluegrass and country. These are the sounds from which this whole long, strange trip was born, and Garcia in particular shines radiantly here.
The sound, as with all records that are stripped to their bare essentials and rid of an overcrowded electric set, is right up there with the very best the Dead ever released. This is also the record for those on-the-fence fans that could do without the wandering-away-from-the-pocket sound that characterized much of the Dead's music. The songs here are tight and compact while still remaining dynamically delicate.

STUNNING 180 GRAM VINYL RELEASE OF THIS BOB DYLAN LIVE PERFORMANCE
1000 ONLY LIMITED EDITION
On the morning of April 25 1963, directly after the conclusion of his final Freewheelin Bob Dylan album session, Bob journeyed to Chicago for a live club appearance and a radio interview.
The gig, on the evening of the same day, was at a newly opened club called The Bear, in which manager Albert Grossman was a partner.
But the primary reason for the 700-mile excursion west was for Dylan to appear on a radio show the following evening, hosted by the extraordinary Studs Terkel.
Capturing the entire broadcast, during which Dylan is questioned and discusses with Studs his thoughts and ideas behind both the songs he performs and others he had written by this juncture, this CD contains a legendary event during which a 21 year old Bob Dylan also performs full acoustic versions of 7 self penned numbers.
Across just over an hour of airtime, Studs and Bob chat like old friends as Dylan is prompted towards playing certain tracks from his then fairly slim body of work, but comes up trumps by pulling songs not just from his imminent second record, but including one from the album after that and showcasing 3 songs that wouldnt see the light of day on record until the 1990s.
Serving both as a historic document of a little known event in the career of a true musical icon, but also as a wholly enjoyable listening experience that stands up to numerous repeat listens.

 Elvis
Elvis Presley
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP

Mastered by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the Original RCA Records Tapes
Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the great depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early '50s, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the career of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known.
Elvis had the amazing ability to sing both R&B and country simultaneously. This with the persona and choreography of a Hollywood movie star on stage, the young Elvis Presley was soon touring, and over the year achieved a number of regional hit singles, electrifying audiences into frenzies wherever he performed.
The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long term deal, and his first RCA single "Heartbreak Hotel" forever etched 'The King Of Rock And Roll' trademark to his name. In 1956 after a chart topping debut LP, his second smash #1 album simply called Elvis truly proved once again that his career was unlike any other in music history.
Filled with more energy than a fireball, the Elvis album took off with the Little Richard classic rocker "Rip It Up." Another chart topping single followed with the much revered "Love Me," a song which he would perform well into the '70s. The album also featured more smash hits like the Otis Blackwell/Elvis Presley rocker "Paralyzed," a blues belter Arthur Crudup revisit with Elvis interpretation of "So Glad Youre Mine," and Red Foleys tender ballad about mans best friend "Old Shep." In total, the album showcases twelve important Elvis Presley recordings which have truly stood the test of time.
In honor of the Man, the Music, the Legend, the 'King Of Rock And Roll', Friday Music is very proud and honored to announce the first time 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl release of the RCA Victor classic Elvis by Elvis Presley. As a first installment in their exciting Elvis Presley 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series, they are very pleased to present this masterwork in all its high fidelity glory.

The Flaming Lips
$22.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
1993's Transmissions From The Satellite Heart is the Flaming Lips' second release for Warner Bros. and first with guitarist Ronald Jones and drummer Steven Drozd. No one trick pony, the ambitious 11-song set balances further pop fare like "Turn It On" and extended numbers like "Moth In The Incubator" and "Slow Nerve Action," with an acoustic folk cut in "Plastic Jesus," all with a post-modern style and grace.

 Abbey Road
The Beatles

Vinyl LP Reissue - Sealed
|
The Beatles - Abbey Road on a domestic pressing at a good price! George came into his own as a writer with "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something." The sessions proved to be the last for the Beatles. The cassette version of Abbey Road has "Come Together" and "Here Comes the Sun" switched on the track list, and the UK version does not list "Her Majesty" on the back cover, whereas some US copies feature one or the other, or both. Rumors circulated for some time that Paul was not wearing pants for the cover photo and they were airbrushed on, but photo outtakes from the same session have proven this false.
Abbey Road won the 1969 Grammy for Best Engineered (Non-Classical) Recording. Nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Group.

$35.99
Gruv Glide Record Cleaning Solution - 4.5 oz
|
Gruv Glide Will Lower Your Noise Floor, Reduce Surface Noise and Extend Stylus Life! A Stereophile Recommended Product! Aerosol formula provides a microscopic layer of lubrication that reduces record wear and prevents static build-up. Comes in a kit with two pads. The new formulation leaves no residue, reduces surface noise and extends stylus life.
Gruv-Glide is a dry record treatment that actually enhances the fidelity of the record. Prior to its development, even the highest quality cartridge could not produce the maximum available reproduction from the phono record. Now for the first time, Gruv-Glide will allow you to hear more micro-detail while bringing out the best possible sound.
Gruv-Glide not only increases fidelity, but also reduces surface noise, removes static, and cleans the record. The treated record and cartridge stylus will last longer due to the increased tracking ability and reduced friction. One application lasts for an indefinite period of time. The kit will treat at least 200 records when used as directed, making it a very economical record care system.

 A Love Supreme
John Coltrane
$16.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
This album is pure and raw Jazz. Every song demonstrates Coltrane's prowess on the sax. In one word this album is 'emotion.' Coltrane seems to poor his whole heart into this project. All the players are in peak performance mode and it shows as each take their turn demonstrating their talents. On the track titled Resolution McCoy Tyner struts his stuff on the piano, and Coltrane makes his sax literally cry. I would consider this one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time.
Historically speaking, this was one of only two albums that Coltrane recorded all year in 1964. Coltrane's other album that year was titled Crescent. Love Supreme was awarded gold status by 1970 and I can see why, it is a great album.
The beginning of Pursuance/Part 4 - Psalm is a drum set that is wonderful and then Coltrane comes screaming into the song with a wonderful brassy sax sound. This is followed by Tyner who is all over the keys of the piano. This last track is pure and raw emotional jazz.
This album could hold a slot next to Miles Davis' work titled Kind of Blue. The album is dedicated to God, whom Coltrane says in the inserts, is the Love Supreme. If you don't have this album then you are missing one of the greatest Jazz album's ever recorded. Get it and see why all the reviews below rave on about this masterpiece.
Track Listing:
Part 1 - Acknowledgement
Part 2 - Resolution
Part 3 - Pursuance
Part 4 - Psalm

 Sin & Soul
Oscar Brown Jr.
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
When Oscar Brown died at the age of 78 in 2005, one journalist at least, from The New York Times, was unsure as to how to describe the artist to whom America had just bid a final farewell. To write in his obituary that he was a jazz singer seemed too platitudinous, because Brown didnt just sing his songs, he performed them. But it would have been just as wrong to honor him as a jazz songwriter, despite his collaborations with Miles Davis and Max Roach, because he was more closely associated with gospel, folk and blues.
His vocal qualities lie in a recitative-like, dry declamation, sharp as a knife, as is clearly heard in "Work Song." The pain brought on by lifes adversities can be cried out internally even if you appear to remain unaffected outwardly ("But I Was Cool"). A portion of sarcasm is necessary when the singsong of a slave trader constantly calls for higher bids ("Bid Em In") and when a babbling child can pester its daddy with both banal and existential questions ("Dat Dere").
The generously manned band does not often play all together as in the springy "Signifyin Monkey." Here we have just a few chords on the piano ("Watermelon Man"), there a gently plucked guitar ("Brown Baby"), or a quiet pulsating rhythm ("Afro Blue"), very often not much more was needed for a sin and soul performance by Oscar Brown, who, by the way, and so typically American, regarded himself as an entertainer.

 For The Good Times
Norah Jones & The Little Willies
$20.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
I love playing country music, says Norah Jones. More than any other genre, it makes me feel at home. Over the past 10 years, The Little Willies, a group of friends and like-minded souls that includes Lee Alexander (bass), Jim Campilongo (guitar), Norah Jones (piano, vocals), Richard Julian (guitar, vocals), and Dan Rieser (drums), have periodically gathered to make music for fun, playing their favorite country tunes and conjuring that down-home spirit.
With their second album, For the Good Times, The Little Willies take on songs by such masters as Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Dolly Parton. The results demonstrate the joy they take, and commitment they make, to a project that was first born for purely practical reasons.
Material for the new album was taken from the Willies live repertoire, and by passing around ideas drawn from disparate sources. The selections include more surprising choices, like the trucker classic Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves and Foul Owl on the Prowl, from the soundtrack to In the Heat of the Night. Alongside the more obscure songs, though, For the Good Times also includes some of the best-known songs in the history of country music, like Partons Jolene and the title track, written by Kristofferson and made famous by such singers as Ray Price and Al Green.
Track Listing:
1. I Worship You (Ralph Stanley) Norah & Richard vocals
2. Remember Me (Scott Wiseman) Norah vocals
3. Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves (Cal Martin) Norah & Richard vocals
4. Lovesick Blues (Cliff Friend/Irving Mills) Norah & Richard vocals
5. Tommy Rockwood (Jim Campilongo) - instrumental
6. Fist City (Loretta Lynn) Norah vocals
7. Permanently Lonely (Willie Nelson) Richard vocals
8. Foul Owl on the Prowl (Quincy Jones/Alan Bergman/Marilyn Bergman) Norah & Richard vocals
9. Wide Open Road (Johnny Cash) Richard vocals w/Norah backing
10. For the Good Times (Kris Kristofferson) Norah vocals
11. If Youve Got the Money Ive Got the Time (Lefty Frizzell/Jim Beck) Norah & Richard vocals
12. Jolene (Dolly Parton) Norah vocals

David Oistrakh's performance here is Absolutely Stunning! This classic recording features the conducting talents of Jascha Horenstein (Bruch) & Paul Hindemith (Hindemith) accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra. David Oistrakh is considered one of the best violinist of the twentieth century, premiering new concerti by Nikolai Miaskovsky and Khachaturian as well as two sonatas by his friend Sergei Prokofiev!
This timeless gem is revealed here in all its passion and sonic glory. Mastered directly from the 1962 half-inch analogue tape 15ips tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on 180g 45rpm Audiophile Vinyl at RTI, this is truly a one-of-a-kind Musical Journey! "Hindemith's concerto has never before blossomed into such rewarding lyricism. Even the orchestral contribution under the composer himself is strikingly passionate and with the soloist to provide many moments when the ear is ravished by the beauty of phrasing and inflection, the listener has much to enjoy.
The recording is one of the very finest ever made of the combination of solo violin and orchestra. The Oistrakh/Horenstein performance completely displaces its competitors. It is marvelously well recorded -- Oistrakh has never sounded so real on a disc before -- and the reading owes nearly as much to the conductor as the soloist. The expansive dignity of the opening of the brass sets shows immediately how fine the orchestral contribution is going to be and Oistrakh's playing throughout is ravishing, raising the statue of the work immeasurably. The slow movement is especially memorable." - Rated 19/20 in Robert Moon, Blue Back Guide

Strictly Limited-Edition Set Comprises Recordings Primarily Made Between 1947 and 1954
Unrivaled Sonics: First Time Original RIAS Berlin Tapes Have Been Made Available
With the great demand for the LP version of their internationally successful Furtwängler 12CD box set, Audite presents a selection of recordings in LP format for audiophile vinyl enthusiasts. Containing compositions by Beethoven, Bruckner, Schubert, Brahms and Wagner, the LP boxed set (comprising 14LPs on 180g vinyl) presents the principal works of the CD boxed set. The majority of the concerts given by Wilhelm Furtwängler and the Berlin Philharmonic between 1947 and 1954 were recorded by the RIAS Berlin. The original tapes from the RIAS archives have been made available for the first time for this edition so these recordings also offer unsurpassed technical quality.
These RIAS recordings are documents of historical value: they contain a major part of Furtwänglers late oeuvre as a conductor, which was characterised by a high level of focus in different respects. Focus on repertoire which has at its core the symphonic works of Beethoven, Brahms and Bruckner (CD & LP box) and is supplemented by works by Bach and Handel and also by topical composers of the time, including Hindemith, Blacher and Fortner (CD box only): artists who were counted amongst the members of moderate modernism and who were not perceived to have been tainted by the cultural politics of the National Socialists.
Focus was also a guiding principle in Furtwänglers concert programs which always feature a particular idea. His interpretations also demonstrate extremely high levels of focus: concentration and focus for him meant a contemporary decoding, a re-creation, which would express the fundamental content of a work. A number of works, the Third, Fifth and Sixth Symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven as well as Johannes Brahms Third Symphony, are included in two interpretations. They reveal how Furtwängler was able to accentuate different aspects of a work whilst maintaining the same, clear basic conception, and how the actual interpretation depended on the context of the particular program.
The production is part of Audite's series "Legendary Recordings and bears the quality feature 1st Master Release. This term stands for the excellent quality of archival productions at Audite. All historical publications at Audite are based, without exception, on the original tapes from broadcasting archives. In general these are the original analog tapes, which attain an astonishingly high quality, even measured by todays standards, with their tape speed of up to 76 cm/sec. The remastering, professionally competent and sensitively applied, also uncovers previously hidden details of the interpretations.

Numbered Limited Edition 180g LP from Mobile Fidelity
1994 Self-Titled Major-Label Debut a Folk-Blues Classic
Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Gorgeous Vocal Inflections, Astonishing Acoustic Guitar Lines Possess Incredible Detail
Pure Blues: National Steel Guitar Playing, Raw Harmonica Solos, Soulful Strumming Infuse Originals and Pair of Covers
In an age where most contemporary bluesmen strive to mimic the past and pattern their music after the greats, Keb' Mo' is content to be himself. Original, charismatic, and immensely gifted, the guitarist/vocalist (born Kevin Moore) brings country blues in the late 20th century on his stunning self-titled Epic debut, which quickly climbed the charts and turned the former backing instrumentalist into a household name. Replete with gritty textures, close-up vocals, and resplendent acoustics, Mobile Fidelitys scintillating analog version of this 1994 set finally possesses the fidelity that brings Mos Delta strains out of the backwoods and onto a lively back porch.
Half-speed mastered from the original tapes, this numbered limited-edition 180g LP represents the very first time that Mos watershed album has been given a much-needed sonic facelift. Gone are the hazes that obscured his singing, artificial ceilings that blunted the highs, and digital fog that interfered with the multitude of illuminating tones, details, and notes. Whats revealed is startling intimacy and soothing emotion, Mos gorgeous vocal timbres and inflections given equal space with his guitar, harmonica, and pace. Finally, a great-sounding contemporary blues record that doesnt resort to derivative recycling and bland revivalism.
The son of Southern parents, Mo' channels his heritage via a batch of superb folksy songs that relax, refresh, and regale. While hes since traveled in a more commercialized pop-oriented direction, Mos initial salvo is nothing but raw, pure blues played with unbridled passion, tremendous conviction, and what is best deemed the essence of heart and soul. Keb' Mo' engages with a compelling mix of tradition and modernity, the headliner refraining from any attempt at assuming an artificial personality and instead basing his reputation on quality songs. As such, Mos material resonates with deep, mellow vibes and extraordinary National steel guitar work, which complements his fluid, acoustic finger-picking and soulful strumming.
Mo' occasionally teams with an ensemble. But this record is mostly all about the basics: guitar, voice, and harmonica. Tunes such as Victims of Comfort and Angelina testify on behalf of his phenomenal country-blues songwriting; his covers of Robert Johnsons Come On In My Kitchen and Kindhearted Woman Blues speak to his reverence for the past. Shuffles, ballads, dance songsMo nails them all.
You owe it to yourself to hear this master musician in the finest possible sound. Every movement on the guitar fretboard, every breath Mo' takes before exhaling words, every crisp and gutsy pluck of the stringsthey have never possessed more dynamics, detail, or life. Imaging and soundstaging are incredible.
Keb' Mo' remains one of the finest blues albums made in the post-Stevie Ray Vaughan era. Dont miss this American gem that so many have since tried to copy.

 John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman
John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman
$59.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed

On March 7, 1963 Coltrane and Hartman had decided on 10 songs for the record album, but en route to the studio they heard Nat King Cole on the radio performing "Lush Life", and Hartman immediately decided that song had to be included in their album. The legendary compilation was made that same day at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Each song was done in only one take, except for "You Are Too Beautiful."
The album has become an instant jazz classic, and the renditions of "Lush Life", "My One and Only Love", and "They Say It's Wonderful" are considered definitive.
Recorded March 7, 1963. Produced by Bob Thiele, Engineered by Rudy Van Gelder.
"Rudy Van Gelder recorded both sets [ORGLP 17 John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman & ORGLP 27 Johnny Hartman / I Just Dropped By To Say Hello], and they display Hartman's voice amidst a mildly reverberant soundfield, which the 45rpm format exposes to its very limits. Piano is captured particularly well, preserving its timbre and delicate ambience. The 180-gram LPs, pressed at Pallas in Germany, are exceptionally quiet, exposing the texture of Hartman's voice and delicate dynamic gradations of Coltrane's achingly beautiful playing all the better." - Marc Mickelson, www.theaudiobeat.com, Music 5/5, Sound 4/5
"Rudy Van Gelders recording is sympathetic to the musical setting, with Hartman center stage, looming large and just kissed with reverb. Even Tyners piano sounds clean and well-textured, while Coltrane and Jones share a channel, with the tenor sax upfront and the drums pushed appropriately behind." - Michael Fremer, www.musicangle.com, Music 10, Sound 9

The LP included four #1 R&B hits: "3 O'Clock Blues" and "You Know I Love You" (1952), "Please Love Me" (1953) and "You Upset Me Baby" (1954); four other top ten hits; plus "Blind Love" from 1953 and covers of Tampa Red's "Crying Won't Help You" (1955) and Gatemouth Moore's "Did You Ever Love A Woman" from 1956. To fill out the album, a superior alternate take of "Sweet Little Angel" was included. As John Broven observes in his notes: "In 1957 "Singin' The Blues" gave the first real indication that B.B. King was destined to be a major star." Absolutely seminal material; his classic hits.

Weight: 12lbs (5.5kg)
Cleaning Solution: 4.5 liters (1.2 gal) of distilled water added to 20ml of cleaning concentrate.
Manufacturer's Description:
Records are precious. Not only are they arguably the best-sounding medium for reproduced music, but they often constitute irreplaceable collections. Even with careful handling contamination cannot be avoided in the long term. It is also well known that residual compounds from the LP pressing process obscure inner detail unless removed by cleaning even new records.
Reiner Glass of Audiodesksysteme has developed a professional quality, easy to use record washing machine he call the Vinyl Cleaner. The Vinyl Cleaner is fully automatic. The record is placed perpendicularly from above into the equipment opening and the red activation button is pressed. When the green LED shines, the clean LP can be removed. During the cleaning process rotary cleaning barrels made from a microfiber material move in opposite directions while a unique ultrasonic system carefully and thoroughly removes even the finest contaminants from the grooves. In use the cleaning solution is thoroughly filtered to avoid recontamination of the LP. Two high performance fans guarantee effective drying with quiet operation.
Technical: How can sound clean?
Ultrasonic is sound generated above the human audible level.
A physical effect called cavitation results from the generation of ultrasonic frequencies in a liquid. In this cavitation process ultrasonic compression waves are created by an ultrasonic transducer. When the amplitude of this soundwave increases to a level where the surface tension of the liquid is broken, the fluid will tear apart leaving behind millions of microscopic vacuum bubbles. These vacuum bubbles then rapidly compress or implode creating millions of tiny liquid jets small enough to clean inside the smallest grooves of an LP. This process, also called microagitation, displaces any contaminants on the surface of the LP.

 Rastaman Vibration
Bob Marley

For Bob Marley, 1975 was a triumphant year. The singer's Natty Dread album featured one of his strongest batches of original material (the first compiled after the departure of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer) and delivered Top 40 hit 'No Woman No Cry.' The follow-up Live set, a document of Marley's appearance at London's Lyceum, found the singer conquering England as well. Upon completing the tour, Marley and his band returned to Jamaica, laying down the tracks for Rastaman Vibration (1976) at legendary studios run by Harry Johnson and Joe Gibbs. At the mixing board for the sessions were Sylvan Morris and Errol Thompson, Jamaican engineers of the highest caliber. Though none of these cuts would show up on Legend, Marley's massively popular, posthumous best-of, some of the finest reality numbers would surface on the compilation's more militant equivalent, 1986's Rebel Music set. 'War,' for one, remains one of the most stunning statements of the singer's career. Though it is essentially a straight reading of one of Haile Selassie's speeches, Marley phrases the text exquisitely to fit a musical setting, a quiet intensity lying just below the surface. Equally strong are the likes of 'Rat Race,' 'Crazy Baldhead,' and 'Want More.' These songs are tempered by buoyant, lighthearted material like 'Cry to Me,' 'Night Shift,' and 'Positive Vibration.' Not quite as strong as some of the love songs Marley would score hits with on subsequent albums, 'Cry to Me' still seems like an obvious choice for a single and remains underrated. Though record buyers may not have found any single song to be as strong on those terms as 'No Woman No Cry,' Rastaman Vibration still reached the Top Ten in the United States.

As Cal Tjader's reputation and popularity grew as one of the major forces in Afro-Cuban jazz, he was able to hire some of the music's most able artists. On this 1958 album, recorded at San Francisco's famous Black Hawk, his band included percussionists Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo, pianist Vince Guaraldi, and bassist Al McKibbon, a veteran of the Dizzy Gillespie band that opened American ears to the charms and urgencies of Afro-Cuban rhythms. "Having Al in the band," Tjader once said, "is an impossible dream come true." Among the pieces here are several by Tjader and one that was destined to become a classic in the literature of Latin jazz, Ray Bryant's "Cubano Chant."

 But Seriously Folks
Joe Walsh
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP
|
There arent too many legends like guitar hero Joe Walsh. From his mid-west beginnings with The James Gang, he racked up enough significant sales and airplay to warrant his very own massive solo career, then performing later with Barnstorm and then three decades plus with The Eagles.
As if a whirlwind tour and unbelievable album success with The Eagles Hotel California werent enough for this spirited guitarist, Walsh went back into the studio in 1978 and created his own top chart platter But Seriously, Folks.
Filled with eight unprecedented Walsh rockers, But Seriously, Folks was truly one of his most enduring classics in large part due to the eight minute burner "Lifes Been Good." This song will forever be associated with the '70s rock superstar lifestyle binge as it was also a featured song in the rock movie soundtrack extravaganza FM.
Even more time tested tracks like the blues rocker "At The Station," AOR classics "Over And Over" and "Tomorrow" plus the brilliant and melodic "Indian Summer" made this the album of choice for many rock radio programmers for over a year upon its initial release.

After Laughter Comes Tears: Complete Stax And Volt Singles + Rarities 1964-1965
Wendy Rene
$23.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Its been a long time coming, but After Laughter Comes Tears is the first ever anthology of Southern soul legend Wendy Rene, whose classic, organ-driven After Laughter (Comes Tears) has been covered or sampled by everyone from the Wu Tang Clan (Tearz) to Alicia Keys (Where Do We Go From Here) to Lykke Li and El Perro Del Mar.
Born Mary Frierson in Memphis, TN, home of Stax Records, Wendy Rene was christened by Otis Redding on signing to Stax as a teenager in 1963. Back then, she and brother Johnny Frierson, both singers at the Church of God In Christ, were determined to make it in music. Forming singing quartet The Drapels with two friends, they took the bus to 926 E. McLemore Avenue, auditioned for Stax co-founder Jim Stewart, and won a deal on the spot. As soon as we finished with the Drapels songs and (the rest of the band) were going to the bus stop, I showed Mr. Stewart my songs, recalls Rene. The result? Stewart found two acts in one, and Mary had two contracts with Stax.
Both Drapels and Wendy began recording with the greats, thats The MGs on the groups Young Man, Booker T. Jones playing organ on After Laughter and Steve Cropper playing guitar on the dance craze-inspired Bar-B-Q. Though her career was brief, Wendy Rene left behind a thrilling catalog of classic soul.
Here, Light In The Attic gives it the archive treatment it richly deserves. First ever anthology of Southern soul legend Wendy Rene including 11 singles, 9 rarities and 2 unreleased songs. This 2LP set features glorious mono sound restored and remastered from the original tapes, notes by Andria Lisle interviewing Rene and unseen photos and original label art.

 Music
Carole King
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Released on the heels of her breakthrough, Tapestry, Carole Kings Music is every bit the equal of its more famous predecessor, a Number One smash that features impeccable songwriting, infallible melodies, and extraordinary piano playing. In short, everything thats made King an institution. After of years of being overshadowed, this 1971 singer-songwriter classic has finally been given the audiophile treatment its long deserved.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited-edition 180g LP of Kings second solo masterpiece is rife with intimacy, transparency, soulfulness, and you-are-there sound. Never before remastered, Music seems like a brand-new album, Kings familiar voice, intelligent arrangements, and ravishing support band presented on a deep, three-dimensional soundstage. Your appreciation for and understanding of Kings inspirational lyrics and ravishing performances will increase tenfold. Mobile Fidelitys 180g LP brings you that much closer.
Accompanied by percussionist Bobbye Hall, drummer Russ Kinkel, guitarist/vocalist James Taylor, and a cavalcade of professional wind musicians, King delves further into R&B and jazz-derived pop, coming up aces every time. Warm, intelligent, and cohesive, songs echo with simplicity and honesty. And as is typical of much of Kings work, several of tunes here were later covered by other artists, including Its Going To Take Some Time (the Carpenters). Yet the originals trump the later renditions, and the rendition of the standard Some Kind of Wonderful stands as the best ever recorded.
With Taylor lending more of a hand on Music than he does on Tapestry, King expands her confident reach on the piano and peppers the songs with graceful touches of saxophone, flute, pedal-steel guitar, and woodwinds. Ballads sway (Surely), gospel brightness lifts spirits (Brighter), and backup vocals float heavenly pop (Song of Long Ago). Yet the best aspect is Kings voice, infused with fondness, concern, joy, and a quiet power that parallels the delicacy and deliberate nature that define Music.
Mobile Fidelitys audiophile edition is free of the limiting artifacts that have helped keep this record in the dark for the better part of the past few decades. Previously diminished, acoustic guitars, subtle brass elements, and soft percussion contribute to the enjoyment of the songs, and Kings voicepleasant, assuring, emotionalcomes through with incredible clarity and inflection. The brilliance of the legendary Lou Adlers original production is restored to its full glory.
If its at all possibleand it isthis treasure now sounds even more heartwarming than it did upon original release. The companion to Tapestry, Music is an auraland sonicdelight.

 The Procrastinator
Lee Morgan
$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP 45 RPM - 2 LPs Sealed
|
In 1961, Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter formed the frontline of one of the greatest versions of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In 1967 they had a reunion for The Procrastinator, showing just how much they both had grown through the years. Morgan, who had a major hit with The Sidewinder a few years earlier, had broken away from the Clifford Brown trumpet tradition to become a brash, adventurous and consistently stunning soloist who perfectly symbolized the era.
Morgan's brand of forward-looking hard bop was influenced by free jazz and put a premium on uninhibited self-expression. Shorter sounded unlike anyone else and wrote highly original compositions. Playing in a sextet with Bobby Hutcherson and Herbie Hancock, Morgan and Shorter contributed all of the songs which include the funky Party Time and other pieces that push hard bop to its limit. The results are exhilarating, vital and timeless.

 Generator
Bad Religion
$10.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Generator knocks about stirringly with a steadfast, mid-tempo punk roar, keeping the songs simple but continually on the upsurge. Brett and Greg Hetson's guitars piggyback to ever-rousing heights, utilizing the essential chords and keeping limits on flashy things like solos or effects, never letting the enthusiasm or sentiment wane. With all players striving to turn each listening experience into a placard-waving melee, Bad Religion emblazons honest, dissatisfied-with-the-status-quo lyrics with an uberpunk spirit, Greg Graffin's vocals growing more gravelly and endearing with each record.
With the implicit understanding that strength lies in brevity, Bad Religion hew mighty exhortations to action out of a well-trampled happy-punk base, and the sheer motivational impact of "Generator," "Only Entertainment," "Atomic Garden" and "No Direction" sweeps clear any charges of oversimplification or sameness. Generator is a brutal noise that is louder, faster & angrier than ever! A plethora of power punching punk pedagogy.

05. Babies in the Dark
06. Heaven is Falling

Edgar Winter, the multi-talented superstar brother of blues rock legend Johnny Winter, has been a fixture on the rock music scene now for several decades. While launching his own successful career with his solo albums and Edgar Winters White Trash, the natural progression for this man was to develop his own supergroup which would become the platinum and gold selling The Edgar Winter Group.
Releasing their first album in 1973, They Only Come Out At Night was an overnight success, thanks to the mind altering studio jam "Frankenstein" which has since become one of classic rocks finest moments. This instrumental smash featured the stunning keyboard of Edgar Winter, the incredible guitar of resident shredder Ronnie Montrose, the thumping bass of the late great Dan Hartman and of course the solid percussive hits of Chuck Ruff.
The album went onto receive more attention from radio programmers across the globe as even further hit songs would rapidly develop including the blues rocker "Undercover Man," the country rock feel of "Round & Round" and of course another top charter with the summer Top 40 Rock driving sounds of Dan Hartmans "Free Ride." The Rick Derringer produced album would go on to stay on the charts for a long time and receive multiple platinum status in a very short time. Truly, one of classic rocks finest albums ever recorded!
Now for the first time ever on audiophile vinyl, Friday Music announces the first installment of their Edgar Winter 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his platinum plus album They Only Come Out At Night. Break It Yourself
Andrew Bird
$74.99
Vinyl LP + CD + DVD Box Set - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Break It Yourself is the highly anticipated follow-up release to Andrew Bird's 2009 album Noble Beast. Produced at his own Western Illinois barn-turned-studio, the sessions for the album featured a mix of distilled, grounded songs and some wild soloing with fine support from long-term collaborator Martin Dosh on drums, Jeremy Ylvisaker on guitar and Mike Lewis on bass. The 14-song set includes cuts as the steel-drum heavy Danse Caribe, the instrumental Behind the Barn and the lush, eight-minute Hole in the Ocean Floor among others.
We had our front of house engineer Neal Jensen bring his old Tascam 8-track tape machine and Yamaha board (nothing fancy) out to my barn, Bird said about the recording. We rolled tape as we were learning the songs and to our surprise we started nailing the songs by the second take. I think we got a rough, unfussy honesty in this session.
In addition to versions of the album on 2LP and CD, this super deluxe collectible vinyl box also includes the short film Here's What Happened on DVD featuring live performances, the creation of the album and a rare look into Birds' private studio.

 High Plains Drifter
Lee Perry and the Upsetters
$22.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
The years 1968 to 1973 were truly extraordinary for Lee Perry: He founded his own Upsetter imprint, had UK Top 5 chart success, toured the UK and Europe, and released a staggering 280 plus singles and over a twenty albums. High Plains Drifter rides in with saddle bags of lost musical gems from these creative years.
Perrys passion for spaghetti Westerns lands right in Sergio Leone territory. With R&B influenced horns (a trademark on many of his early productions) he pushes musical boundaries, working with ex-Mento star Count Sticky, who provided jive talking inspired intros and exultations over Perrys sharp rhythms.
This album pulls together 20 undocumented Jamaican singles (and one dub plate) that beautifully showcase these influences and Perrys development as a producer. A great 2LP set of productions as strong as any of his releases on Pressure Sounds.

 The Sound Of Jazz

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

"The Sound of Jazz" is a 1957 edition of the CBS television series Seven Lively Arts, and was one of the first major programmes featuring jazz to air on American network television.
The one-hour program aired on Sunday, December 8, 1957, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time, live from CBS Studio 58, the Town Theater at 851 Ninth Avenue in New York City. The show was hosted by New York Herald-Tribune media critic John Crosby, directed by Jack Smight, and produced by Robert Herridge. Jazz writers Nat Hentoff and Whitney Balliett were the primary music consultants.
The Sound of Jazz brought together 32 leading musicians from the swing era including Count Basie, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Billie Holiday, Jo Jones and Coleman Hawkins; the Chicago style players of the same era, like Henry 'Red' Allen, Vic Dickenson, and Pee Wee Russell; and younger 'modernist' musicians such as Gerry Mulligan, Thelonious Monk, and Jimmy Giuffre. These players played separately with their compatriots, but also joined to combine various styles in one group, such as Red Allen's group and the group backing Billie Holiday on "Fine and Mellow".
The show's performance of "Fine and Mellow" reunited Billie Holiday with her estranged long-time friend Lester Young for the final time. Jazz critic Nat Hentoff, who was involved in the show, recalled that during rehearsals, they kept to opposite sides of the room. Young was very weak, and Hentoff told him to skip the big band section of the show and that he could sit while perform

Dusty Springfield

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - Sealed

Dusty... Definitely is the ninth studio album by singer Dusty Springfield, recorded and released in the UK in 1968. Production credits go to both John Franz, and for the first time, Springfield herself. The songs on this album were chosen because Springfield "liked them", as stated in the liner notes. Like the vast majority of her LPs, the album shows a diverse range of styles ranging from soul ("Take Another Little Piece of my Heart"), pop ("This Girl's in Love With You"), folk ("Morning (Bom Dia)") to lounge ("Who (Will Take my Place?").
The two sides of the album reflected very different moods: the first side was packed with fast-paced, louder numbers, while the second side was more mellow, which Springfield suggested would be suitable for listening to at night.

 Beethoven Symphonies No 1-9
Ludwig Van Beethoven
$349.99 $290.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Box Set - 9 LPs Sealed
|
This Numbered, Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set features 9 LPs pressed on 180 Gram Virgin Vinyl!
Cut by Hendrik Pauler and Pressed at Pallas in Germany!
Exceptional Acoustic Brilliance!
This is really like the good old days a new complete Beethoven cycle on vinyl LP! Of course, Andreas Spreer also had several Beethoven symphonies pressed on vinyl for Tacet (each of which is also worth recommending), but now all nine are available in a high-quality box with a sturdy plastic slipcase. Inside are LPs which have been impeccably pressed by Pallas on 180-gram vinyl and a lavish, large-format 32-page booklet.
In other respects as well, everything is of the very best quality. The distinguished Polyhymnia team around Jean-Marie Geijsen did the original high-resolution digital multichannel recordings and the editing. The stereo SACD mix outstanding, by the way was not simply used for the analog master, however. Instead, Ralf Koschnicke of the Duisberg audiophile label Acousence remixed the multitracks on the analog level. The press matrices were made by none other than Hendrik Pauler at Pauler Acoustics, in the studios of his father, Günter, also committed to absolutely superb sound. It was worth the expenditure. The award-winning recordings, dating from 2004 to 2008, sound overwhelmingly good.
The Performance:
Anyone who has heard them in the concert hall will not soon forget this experience. The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is an orchestra that reacts with incredible alertness, carries out the conductor's directions with lightning speed and passion characteristics which are sadly lacking with a good many municipal symphony orchestras. Perhaps it is because the musicians are partners in their own orchestra, which means that they decide all matters democratically but also bear the business risks themselves, whereas in a "normal" orchestra the musicians generally enjoy civil service status. The fact that the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie was the first orchestra ever to receive the German Record Critics' Certificate of Special Merit in 2009 is justified, as demonstrated by this Beethoven cycle, which was recorded from 2004 to 2008 and, after its release on SACD, is now available for a limited time as an 9LP box set!
There are countless recordings on the market of this most important symphony cycle in musical history. Whereas Wilhelm Furtwängler emphasized the solemn dimension of the music with relatively measured tempos, a tradition continued by such disciples as Barenboim, many contemporary conductors, like Herreweghe, Vänskä, Manze, etc., adopt an approach influenced by the principles of historical performance practice with a lean sound in the strings and winds, brisk tempos, and sharper accents.
The Kammerphilharmonie and Paavo Järvi also follow the latter path. Although they use modern instruments except for natural trumpets and timpani compared to the traditional symphony orchestra, their reduced forces come close to the performance practice of Beethoven's day. The result is a relatively bright, transparent sound in which even seasoned Beethoven listeners can discover previously hidden musical details.
With a good many modern conductors, the emancipation from tradition sometimes seems "contrived" Beethoven brushed the wrong way. With Paavo Järvi, however, everything flows organically. Although he does not shape the Andante cantabile con moto from the First Symphony as an expansive stream of sound, with a brisk tempo he gives it a supple, elegant character, and its charming melody is not lost. During the first movement of the Fifth Symphony, with its famous "fate" motif, he does not emphasize its dramatic weight but takes the movement briskly and jauntily. With sharp accents, abrupt dynamic changes, and a driving tempo, the subsequent climaxes ultimately seem no less explosive than with the "old greats."

 Just a Little Lovin'
Shelby Lynne
$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Originally released by Lost Highway Records in 2008, Just A Little Lovin' is Shelby Lynne's stirring, emphatic tribute to the late British singer Dusty Springfield. It is to date the highest charting album of Lynne's career, reaching #41 on the Billboard 200, thanks to such endearing renditions of Springfield classics like "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me," "I Only Want To Be With You" and "How Can I Be Sure" among others. The set was even produced by the legendary Phil Ramone, the engineer for Springfield's original recording of "The Look Of Love."
Reissuing this masterpiece was quite the undertaking for Analogue Productions. Keep in mind that almost without exception, for every pop record recorded after 1992, even if it's recorded to analog tape like this one, the songs are stored individually. That means that there is never an actual complete album master compiled. So to cut an LP from tape, they had to have mastering engineer Doug Sax assemble an analog master in order so that he could then cut the record to LP, using his famed tube electronics.
The resulting 200g heavyweight platter from Quality Record Pressings is dead quiet and smooth. Plating was also done in-house at QRP by Gary Salstrom. And on the heels of Analogue Productions' reissue of Dusty Springfield's Dusty In Memphis, which was named Stereophile's 'Recording of the Month' for February 2012, the timing couldn't be more perfect. An unparalleled mixture of great music, great performances and a great recording!

This is a really wonderful album; Joni just laid it all out there for the world to hear. I feel this new version is the true giant killer. Parts were cut, plated and pressed at RTI and the actual 1971 Reprise master tape was used in disk cutting. Most of the songs on this vinyl version were cut without ANY equalization at all so this will be the closest you will ever get to the sound of the true master tape!

Scout - Turntable

Back to our Turntables page!
"Rather, this is a flat-out, unconditional, "Holy Mother of Crap, I can't believe how good this thing is" recommendation. It's hard to imagine another way of spending $****.** that will add this much to your system." - Art Dudley - Sterophile
The SCOUT has become the worlds best-reviewed turntable! The SCOUT is the lowest priced turntable in STEREOPHILE'S Class "B" and has attained high performance records worldwide. For improved stability and damping, the Scout's chassis is made from 1 1/8" thick MDF bonded to a 12 gauge steel plate. The massive platter is composed of 1 3/8" acrylic and is mounted to an inverted bearing of Teflon and brass on a 60 Rockwell case hardened shaft. The 600 RPM AC synchronous motor is contained in a separate steel housing and drives the platter with smooth, quiet operation.
The new JMW-9T tonearm is the perfect complement to the Scout, offering all the advantages of a unipivot tonearm at a bargain price. The arm has a no friction bearing mounted onto a solid stainless steel rod with a knurled ring to set VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle).
As with the more expensive JMW-10.5i" and JMW-12.7" arms, the tonearm wand assembly of the JMW-9T can be removed and replaced in seconds. This allows instant cartridge changes with multiple armwands. An RCA junction box allows any RCA-terminated interconnects to be used. The JMW-9 uses the same geometry and mounting as the Rega RB300 tonearm and can be dropped right into the Rega armhole with no modifications.
”The Scout blew me away with its control, detail, and zest for the music. I loved it. It’s hard to think why anyone would want more!”

Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Johnny Mercer Songbook
Ella Fitzgerald
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

The Johnny Mercer Songbook is very last release by Speakers Corner in the superb Ella Fitzgerald songbook series. To speak of 'songs' by Johnny Mercer, and just calling him a 'composer', falls far short of the truth for he is the personification of a top composer, a great lyricist, and a shrewd businessman, who set up a monument to himself with his extremely successful record company Capitol Records. Ella sang Johnny Mercer’s compositions over and over again, and on this recording we have a wonderful version of "Something’s Gotta Give" and Johnny Mercer’s theme song and showpiece "Dream". His inspiration as a lyricist is masterly. Who else could have thought of such a gorgeous introduction to Stan Getz’s number "Early Autumn" ...When an early autumn walks the land and chills the breeze and touches with her hand the summer trees...
Or the refrain from "I Remember You": ...When my life is through, and the angels ask me to recall the thrill of them all.... All in all, Johnny Mercer composed or wrote the lyrics to over 1000 songs, 13 of which Ella performs here in masterly fashion and in her own inimitable style – mellifluous, electric, or swinging.

 Carmen Fantasie
Anne-Sophie Mutter
$74.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Anne-Sophie Mutter is joined by the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by James Levine performing Sarasate's Carmen-Fantasie!
Some violinists impress by a dazzling technique, as flawless and polished as a diamond. Some impress by the intensity of their vision, their genius for saying something fresh with a musical phrase that the listener may have heard a thousand times before. Others by their daring, their willingness to push themselves beyond the boundries of safety - perhaps by choosing an audacious tempo, or by producing some extraordinary and startling tone-colour. Anne-Sophie Mutter does all this and more!
Gathered together here is music that Mutter might play as encores after an intense recital or concerto programme. Several were written by composers who were themselves virtuoso violinists, and whose very intention was to test the technical mettle of all who dared to attempt a performance. For some violinists, simply playing the notes would be enough. But being Mutter, these pieces are interpreted with as much care and intelligence as the most profound concerto.
Discovered as a child prodigy by Herbert von Karajan, Mutter has been holding the world's music-lovers mesmerized for at least 17 years.
Recorded: Vienna, Musikverein, Grosser Saal, November 1992.

European label Lark Records released the album in December 1983, but its US release was delayed until a month later as to not compete with the band's then-current album Restless and Wild, which had arrived in the US in early 1983.
It is the band's best known and highest-selling album, selling about two million copies worldwide, and is Accept's only record to attain Gold certification in America.
The album's lead single, "Balls to the Wall", became Accept's signature tune and remains a metal anthem and trademark in the genre.
Critic Martin Popoff has declared Balls to the Wall the greatest metal album of the 1980s, praising the combination of smooth production, powerful guitar riffs and strong melodies that are found throughout the record.

 Night Club
Patricia Barber
$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Nightclub, vocalist/pianist Patricia Barbers first of standards was a long time coming. From the very beginning of her brilliant 20-year career, devoted fans, including her own mother, had been begging Patricia to dedicate a record to standards. "These songs have always been a part of my repertoire and are a big part of who I am but I wanted to try and define myself in a different way before making a record like this," said Barber in September of 2000 when Nightclub was first released.
It was, and is, hard to argue with her approach. Accompanied by an all-star cast of supporting musicians, Barber delivered an album Time called devastating. Highlights include her stunning version of "Yesterdays," the rarely recorded vocal version of "Invitation," and an achingly beautiful take on So In Love from the songbook of Barbers songwriting idol, Cole Porter. A multiple Stereophile R2D4 winner recorded by Jim Anderson, Nightclub is the American popular songbook given new life by one of the most expressive voices in contemporary music.

 Seven Deadly

Orange Colored Vinyl
Nothing would be easier for British rock legend UFO than to rest on their laurels. The band could easily release the
occasional best-of album to earn a few additional royalties and otherwise content themselves with looking back at
their exceptionally glorious past. And it certainly wouldnt be a problem for UFO to sell out tours on the strength
of their legendary name with a great hoopla and low artistic values. But idleness or indeed a musical standstill
have always been out of the question for Phil Mogg, Paul Raymond, Andy Parker, and Vinnie Moore. These in
equal measures experienced and ambitious musicians are interested in the present, their love of creativity and the
active continuation of their celebrated band history. And now we can look forward to Seven Deadly, the bands
latest studio album which combines present and future with UFOs greatest fortes.
As already mentioned, UFO continue to be a live force to be reckoned with. Their 2011 U.S. tour was an absolute
smash, and at the time of Seven Deadlys release, UFO will be performing at the Monsters Of Rock Cruise The Voyage: there could hardly be a more fitting setting for this exciting new album!

Miles Davis

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Culled from three separate nonet sessions that took place from early 1949 through March of 1950, The Birth Of Cool was the literal blue print for the sound known as cool jazz thus its title. Featuring the fluidity of bop, innovative big band arrangements and a relaxed overall elegance, the Gil Evans arranged sessions find Davis supported by pivotal performances from such jazz luminaries as Kai Winding, Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz and Max Roach among others. Despite such a large band, the proceedings sound remarkably intimate with concise and sophisticated songs built largely on tone and mood. A seminal recording in the history of jazz!

 Dvorak - New World Symphony
Herbert von Karajan
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

In 1955 Herbert von Karajan was appointed music director for life of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. However, Karajan continued his close association with the Philharmonia Orchestra during the rest of the 1950s and with the orchestras founder and legendary EMI Producer, Walter Legge. EMI remained (on their Columbia label) Karajans record company until 1959 when he signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon. Hence, this recording was made towards the end of his contract with EMI, although he would return to the label in future years for occasional projects (like the Beethoven Triple Concerto on HIQLP006).
Recorded in Berlins Grunewaldkirche on 18, 19 & 20 May 1958. Produced by the legendary Walter Legge, assisted by Fritz Ganss and engineered by Horst Lindner.
Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS80 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional playback head. Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards and features the original album artwork.

From 1957 to 1974 Sir David Willcocks held the post for which he is probably best known, Director of Music at King's College, Cambridge. He made numerous recordings with the college choir, of which the Fauré Requiem is probably the most admired and toured extensively with the choir, giving concerts worldwide, as well as garnering further acclaim internationally through television and radio appearances. He held this and other academic positions at Cambridge until the 1970s when he accepted the post of director of the Royal College of Music. In the 1971 Queen's Birthday Honours, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and was created a Knight Bachelor in 1977 in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Honours.
Interestingly, the Fauré Requiem was not recorded in Kings College Chapel but the more manageable acoustic of Trinity College Chapel, Cambridge, on 10 December 1967. Produced by Christopher Bishop and Engineered by Neville Boyling.

FANTASTIC 140 GRAM CLEAR QUADROUPLE VINYL REISSUE OF THIS LEGENDARY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN LIVE PERFORMANCE
AVAILABLE IN A DELUXE HARDBACK SLIPCASE
The words 'legendary', 'seminal' and 'classic' are very often over-used in the heated hyperbole that surround rock concerts in general and Bruce Springsteen gigs in particular.
They lead to overblown phrases such as "essential for every fan" and one of his greatest ever shows.
This recording of a concert Bruce and the E-Street Band played in Philadelphia in February 1975 really is that of a legendary Springsteen show, a seminal moment in his career, a classic performance and an essential part of any fan's library of The Boss work. This is one of his greatest ever performances.

 La Fille Mal Gardee

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Herold & Lanchbery's most celebrated recording, La Fille mal gardee, presented on the Highest Quality 180 Gram 45rpm Vinyl from ORG!
John Lanchbery was an English conductor and composer famous for his ballet arrangements, especially those for The Royal Ballet. Lanchbery was principal conductor with The Royal Ballet for 13 years starting in 1959.
Undoubtedly, Lanchbery’s most celebrated recording – in both a highlights and later a complete form – is of his music for Frederick Ashton’s La Fille mal gardée. Sir Frederick Ashton was a leading international dancer and choreographer, who is most noted as the founder choreographer of The Royal Ballet in London.
The French composer Hérold usually takes all the credit, but Lanchbery’s selection is far more elaborate than that attribution might suggest. Herold was a French opera composer, now best known for the delightful ballet score for La Fille mal gardée (1828). Born just over a year before Rossini, he did much to make ballet music more important in its own right; at the time it was the norm to to make ballet scores entirely out of existing opera melodies and popular tunes.
Louis Joseph Ferdinand Hérold, to give him his full name, is only one of at least half a dozen composers whose music went towards giving La fille mal gardée as we know it today its special flavour.

 MDNA (On Sale)
Madonna
$39.99 $29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
“There’s only one queen and that’s Madonna, bitch,” boasts Nicki Minaj. Nicki's impassioned proclamation at the close of MDNA's stomping anthem "I Don't Give A..." could not be more sharply on-point. After nearly 30 years of making music, no one has come close to matching the impact of Madonna. She is truly peerless, ever-evolving and experimenting with sounds that continually set the pace for global popular music. Madonna's unwavering commitment to her craft has translated into sales of over 200 million albums worldwide, not to mention record-breaking tours that raise the bar for creativity.
With MDNA, she breaks innovative new ground with songs that explode with ferocious rhythmic energy, while also offering the kind of irresistible pop melodies that are the hallmark of her classic compositions. Since pre-release sales orders began exclusively on iTunes worldwide, the album has reached #1 on the store's charts in 50 countries and became the largest one-day pre-order of any album in iTunes history.
MDNA opens with "Girl Gone Wild," an anthemic collaboration with Italian club wunderkind Benny Benassi. Amid a frenetic collision of beats and keyboards, Madonna sets the tone for an album that she vividly characterizes as having the intensity of a "caged animal." From there, the listener is taken on the heart-racing, reckless joyride "Gang Bang," a reunion with Ray of Light collaborator William Orbit. At the first ominous, bass-soaked thump of the beat, it's clear that Madonna and Orbit are navigating previously unchartered musical territory. The unapologetic, foreboding tone of anger in her vocal builds to the point of violent mania. And just when you think she couldn't go any further, she does. This is Madonna at her most primal and animalistic.
There is no denying the kinetic chemistry that Madonna shares with Orbit, as exemplified by their additional MDNA creations. "Some Girls" exudes an almost masculine funk swagger, while "I'm A Sinner" shows the pair indulging in jangly guitars and retro-splashed pop percussion. It is also with Orbit that Madonna has created her most delicate compositions, most notably the deliciously romantic "Falling Free," and the gently percussive "Masterpiece," which won a 2012 Golden Globe Award for its inclusion in her motion picture directorial debut, W.E.
In contrast to Madonna's pensive moments with Orbit on MDNA are flourishes of spectacular joy with Benassi. It is during their dancefloor-friendly tracks that longtime aficionados of the artist's pure-pop efforts will experience absolute bliss. He brings out her cheeky, playful side on "I'm Addicted," which reveals its massive pop-hit potential in its booming bassline and its meticulous, infectious chorus chant.
Of the collaborations Madonna explores throughout this project, the results of her time with French DJ/producer Martin Solveig are the most unexpectedly intriguing. Their shared affinity for film and art imagery is unmistakable in their lyrics, drawing an ear-tickling contrast with the sweet, often varied tones of their music. "Turn On The Radio" has a charming, earnest quality, while the top-10 hit "Give Me All Your Luvin'" has a sexy, surf-rock vibe that conjures images of sunshine within its first few instrumental bars.
Perhaps most powerful of Madonna and Solveig's tracks is the reflective "I Don't Give A...," during which she ruminates on the necessary end to a relationship with brutally sensitive prose like "I tried to be a good girl. I tried to be a wife. Diminished myself. I swallowed my light." It's a startlingly beautiful, delicate moment that evolves into a climax of extraordinary empowerment.
MDNA is unequivocal proof that Madonna continues to be the world's most inventive musical artist. Her desire to bring bold new ideas to the mainstream is unparalleled. No doubt, this will be illustrated in a worldwide concert trek that will show the artist shattering the boundaries of a traditional stage show. Madonna understands and respects the simple purity of pop music, while thriving on the belief that people are as smart and hungry for truth and art as she is. It is that belief that will undeniably keep Madonna creating more inspired and inspiring music for years to come.

 I Am The Blues
Willie Dixon
$36.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Chicago Bluesman Willie Dixon was perhaps best known for his songwriting. He wrote or co-wrote over 500 songs and his songs have been recorded by some of the best-known blues musicians of his era, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, and Buddy Guy.
Later, his songs were popularized by groups, such as The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Cream, and Led Zeppelin, whose "Whole Lotta Love" was loosely based don Dixon´s "You Need Love". On this 1970 LP, the quintessential blues songwriter performs his own tunes - every one a classic: "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man", "The Little Red Rooster", " Spoonful" and of course "Back Door Man" to name a few!
Long overdue, the album was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1986, whereas Willie Dixon was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Blue/Purple Swirl Colored Vinyl
First 1,000 numbered & limited colored vinyl

In a musical era dominated by Nirvana and grunge, New Jersey native Dave Wyndorf and his Monster Magnet managed to set the world on fire with an abrasive bash of retro hard rock.
A simple rehashing of Led Zeppelin- and Black Sabbath-riffs would never do, and so they set their drug-damaged minds to redefining those riffs to psychedelic effect, creating their own brand of Seventies inspired space-rock.
Released in 1993, "Superjudge" is their second album. The band somewhat abandon the feedback-heavy jams of their debut in favor of groovy, and dare we say catchy, songs that still sound gritty enough to get that essential stoner feel.
A hedonistic harvest from the mushrooms planted by Hawkind, Steppenwolf and Blue Cheer…

 Marley Original Soundtrack
Bob Marley
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed
|
The Third World's first superstar and arguably the most recognizable human being on the planet, reggae giant Bob Marley is celebrated in a film by award-winning director Kevin MacDonald ('One Day In September', 'State of Play', 'The Last King of Scotland', 'Touching the Void' and 'Life In a Day'). 'Marley, which tells the definitive story of the superstar who rose from the ghetto to become one of the greats of popular music before dying tragically young at the height of his fame, 'received a rapturous reception at its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on February 12, 2012.
Bob Marley was born February 6, 1945 in rural St. Ann's Parish, Jamaica, leaving home at 14 to pursue a music career in Kingston. A naturally gifted musician and singer he recorded his first track in 1962. In '72 finding himself stranded in London with his band the Wailers he signed to Chris Blackwell's Island Records and went on to enjoy global success and to put reggae on the music map. Many of his songs - which highlighted both Jamaica's poverty and the spirituality of its people - have since become universal anthems. Bob Marley died of cancer on May 11, 1981 at the age of 36.
Says Kevin MacDonald, "Marley the film is an intimate, human portrait of the legendary singer. But as with any film about an artist - the main purpose has got to be to send the listener back to the music with a renewed appreciation for its beauty and significance. That's why I am so happy that Island are releasing this special collection of songs from and inspired by the movie."
Says Chris Blackwell, "Kevin MacDonald has made a wonderful film about Marley. I think it will touch the hearts of many. It tells Bob's story properly for the first time and you get a real sense of the man and his incredible talent. His spiritual message is as relevant now as it ever was and his music still resonates around the world."
The soundtrack to "Marley" includes, for the first time on record, the 1978 One Love Peace concert performance of 'Jammin' during which Marley joined the hands of bitter political rivals Michael Manley and Edward Seaga, a gesture which went some way towards restoring peace to a strife-torn Jamaica. The tracklisting of the soundtrack follows the chronology of the film.

With In Utero topping the charts on both sides of the Atlantic following its September 1993 release, Nirvanas celebrity was not in question. When it was announced that the band would be headlining at Seattle’s Pier 48 on 13th December 1993, with a bill that was also to feature The Breeders, Cypress Hill and Pearl Jam, fans braved pouring rain to queue overnight for free tickets. Pier 48s cavernous warehouse on Seattle’s lakefront couldn’t have been a more perfect venue for the ultimate grunge showcase, and with the show broadcast across multiple TV and Radio networks for all to enjoy, the gigs legacy was assured. The Nirvana set played that cold December night almost 20 years ago is included on this LP.
Previously unreleased broadcast of the seminal Pier 48 gig
Also included is a second Nirvana broadcast of the bands show at The Palace, in Melbourne, Australia on 2nd February, 1992, with Nirvana showcasing much of what was then their new album, Nevermind
Finally an additional four tracks from the two appearances Nirvana made on legendary American sketch show Saturday Night Live are also made available
Together, these vintage recordings complete this career spanning package and provide the ultimate collection of live Nirvana performances

 Radio Music Society
Esperanza Spalding
$29.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
It has not taken Esperanza Spalding long to emerge as one of the brightest lights in the musical world. Listeners familiar with her stunning 2008 debut, Esperanza, and her best-selling 2010 release, Chamber Music Society, were well aware that the young bassist, vocalist and composer from Portland, OR is the real deal, with a unique style-spanning presence, deeply rooted in jazz yet destined to make her mark far beyond the jazz realm. That judgement was confirmed in February of 2011 when Spalding became the first jazz musician to receive the Grammy Award for 'Best New Artist.'
Radio Music Society is her most diverse, ambitious and masterful recital yet. The set is a companion, rather than a sequel, to Spalding's previous release, which reached #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. "Originally I thought it would be fun to release a double album," she explains, "One disc with an intimate, subtle exploration of chamber works and a second one in which jazz musicians explore song forms and melodies that are formatted more along the lines of what we would categorize as 'pop songs.' Those are the two things that really interest me, and it intrigues me to think about different presentation approaches while writing each kind of song. On the pop song side, I think about listeners who aren't into jazz, but I also think about the people within my musical community who can interpret each idea best."
"Radio Song," the album's opening track, both sets the tone and confirms the aptness of Spalding's 'radio music' metaphor. "Everyone has the experience of turning on a car radio," she explains,"mindlessly flipping through the dial and suddenly a fragment grabs you and you're totally digging it. I wanted to capture that moment when the music just sinks in. It's about the power of song, and how at the least it can save the day."
Songs about love run also run the gamut on Radio Music Society. "Hold On Me" is a narrative of unrequited love, inspired by people who cling to dreams of relationships that can never be realized. "Let Her," one of Spalding's older compositions, was inspired by "different people I've known who are in miserable situations, then complain when they end." "Cinnamon Tree," written to cheer up a friend, celebrates platonic love, and Spalding's belief that "the love between friends is just as important as romantic love." "Crowned and Kissed," with references to King Arthur and Midas, is about "the unsung royalty in your life, men and women who quietly, every day do the most honorable things, and who deserve to be honored even if they don't end up with castles and thrones." The edgy "Smile Like That" marks the moment a person realizes that his or her partner has developed other interests.
Among its many strengths, Radio Music Society is a celebration of the men and women who have helped cultivate Spalding's talent, as well as those who have nurtured her vision and inspired her along the way. "I've had the honor and blessing of working with so many phenomenal jazz musicians over the years," she says. "As I've gotten to know them and their music, I've grown to love them as family and colleagues. I wished for an opportunity for us all to interpret songs together, so that they can be heard and received by a larger audience."
That music is realized by many of the brilliant musicians who are part of Spalding's ever-expanding universe. In addition to longtime partners Joe Lovano, keyboard player Leo Genovese and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, the album contains contributions from jazz legends Jack DeJohnette and Billy Hart; guitar heroes Jef Lee Johnson and Lionel Loueke; an array of master vocalists including Algebra Blessett, Lalah Hathaway, Gretchen Parlato, Leni Stern and Becca Stevens; hip-hop giant Q-Tip (who performs on and co-produced two tracks); and two Portland-based musicians, Janice Scroggins and Dr. Thara Memory, who provided essential mentorship in Spalding's youth.

 Yerba Buena Bounce
The Hot Club Of San Francisco
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Exceptional 200-gram deluxe vinyl pressing. Deluxe gatefold jackets crafted by Stoughton Printing. With Yerba Buena Bounce, its 10th album, The Hot Club of San Francisco confirms its reputation as America's longest-running and finest Gypsy Jazz ensemble. Inspired explorations of Django Reinhardt's tunes, originals and more, are captured in shimmering sound. The Hot Club of San Francisco is a quintet of accomplished and versatile musicians who celebrate Django Reinhardt's and Stephane Grappelli's renowned Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of three guitars, violin and bass from the original Hot Club but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the group's superb lead guitarist, Paul Mehling. Hearing the ensemble takes the listener back to the 1930s and to the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris. Mandolinist David Grisman, father of Dawg music and good friend of The Hot Club, makes a special guest appearance on two tracks. The set is further enhanced by bandoneon virtuoso Seth Asarno. Two bonus tracks feature the quintet augmented by three Dixieland horns.
Recorded by multi-Grammy-nominated "Prof." Keith Johnson at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California, the Yerba Buena Bounce sessions benefited from the historic ambience, scene of hundreds of classic jazz and rock recordings. Using his own custom-built microphones and electronics (as always), Johnson was able to utilize some of Fantasy's unique facilities, such as a legendary echo chamber, to add luster to his always life-like soundscapes.

The Freewheelin Bob Dylan, Another Side of Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, Blonde on Blonde, and Blood on the Tracks Also Available from Mobile Fidelity
Basements have long been associated with raw, off-the-cuff rock n roll, the damp and dark spaces serving as the woodshedding venues for countless bands. Yet no basement is more famous, and none yielded music as familiarly weird, wholesomely American, joyously loose, and identifiably humorous as that in the upstate New York house dubbed Big Pinkthe location where, during the summer and early fall of 1967, Bob Dylan and The Band played a vivid tapestry of covers, originals, and traditionals that signaled the advent of Americana. Once again, the Bard changed the world.
As part of its Bob Dylan catalog restoration series, Mobile Fidelity is thoroughly humbled to have the privilege of mastering the iconic LP from the original master tapes and pressing it on dead-quiet LPs at RTI. The end result is the very finest, most transparent analog edition of The Basement Tapes ever producedand the first-ever analog reissue. Inimitable, the particulars of The Basement Tapesespecially, the gather-round-in-a-huddle assembly of the instrumentalists, home-made character, domestic vibe, and low-volume nature of the recordingscome to fore here in a manner that takes the listener down the stairs at 2188 Stoll Road and brings the images of Dylan, Rick Danko, Robbie Robertson, and Co. to life.
Fresh off experiencing a motorcycle accident and the wrath of audiences hostile to his embrace of amplified music, Dylan elected to retreat to the comforts of rural and family life. He soon began collaborating with members of the Band in his house, ultimately moving the sessions to Big Pink. Informal, peaceful, relaxed, open-minded: The collaborations blanket country stomps, roots hootenannies, forgotten spirituals, earthy originals, chaotic marches, dreamscapes, dance tunes, folk laments, catch-as-you-can improvisations. On The Basement Tapes, mythical ghosts and dead legends reappear, reveling in the absurdity, comedy, mystery, aura, and alchemy.
In Invisible Republic, his scintillating book about the sessions, cultural critic Greil Marcus states: At a time when the country was tearing itself apart in a war at home over a war abroad, the music was funny and comforting; it was also strange, and somehow incomplete. Out of some odd displacement of art and time, the music seemed both transparent and inexplicable when it was first heard, and it still does. Indeed, The Basement Tapes appear to emanate from an indefinable chasm between modern and ancient, self-evident and mysterious, shapeless and fully formed, abstract and concrete, histories unwritten and chronicled. But every note chimes with freenessa liberating fun, humble simplicity, and bond-creating camaraderie felt in every hoot, holler, laugh, and false start.
The Basement Tapes capacity to remain so gloriously honest and timelessperformances that genuinely couldve been made today, ten years from now, or back in the 1930shelps account for their emotional resonance and unsurpassed reputation as a snapshot of how unencumbered American music, and art with deep historical roots and connective cultural tissues, is supposed to sound.
Mobile Fidelitys reissue squares away the late-night bleariness, jovial atmosphere, low-ceiling dimensions, and ensemble-based perspective of the sessions, allowing the listener to become Hamlet, the dog who slept nearby Dylan, Robertson, and Co. as it all went down. This is not to be missed.
Given the sonic and artistic merit of this album, we anticipate huge demand.

 Electric Light Orchestra
Electric Light Orchestra

Remastered
England's Electric Light Orchestra, better known to its fans as ELO, went from cult status to arena-level superstardom in the 1970s, evolving from eclectic classically-influenced prog-rockers to state-of-the-art hitmakers. At the peak of their popularity, they were one of the world's biggest-selling recording acts, and also one of the most unusual. Combining rock instrumentation with a full string section, ELO couldn't help but stand out, both musically and visually.
Originally launched by Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan and Roy Wood as a side project to their legendary band the Move, ELO arrived in 1971 with their self-titled debut album accidentally released as No Answer due to a miscommunication with the band's US label. The core trio of Lynne, Wood, Bev Bevan, augmented by Bill Hunt and Steve Woolam, approach the music here both like a hard rock band attacking a song and a string ensemble playing chamber music.
The philosophical differences between Wood and Lynne only commingled for this lone album however, as Wood relinquished ELO to Lynne and went on to form Wizzard. Although their styles were wide ranging, citing Wood's baroque-flavored “Look at Me Now” and Lynne's hard rock number “10538 Overture” as examples, it was that same bookend combination that also makes the album a masterpiece way ahead of its time.
"All in all, I think these tracks are quite amazing because neither Roy or me had any idea how to approach this project, we just got on with it." - Jeff Lynne
"I would have to say that together, Jeff and myself made my original dream into a reality. If I am to be honest, I sincerely love him for it." - Roy Wood

 Hair
Ty Segall & White Fence
$16.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Known for rock and roll both savage and incisive and pastorally acidwinged, TY SEGALL and WHITE FENCE have collaborated on a set of songs that accelerate wildly from where we last found them. Hair squares their guitar-fringed traffic with purple flashes, escalating every song before multiple explosions rock the frame during their penultimate joust. Goodby Bread and Is Growing Faith are both amazing records in their own right, but neither has the dual-turbine speaker-breakers to be found on Hair. Chanting to and from the dome with your living soundtrack, providing the Hair-dressing for your psychic salad are Ty Segall & White Fence-builder TIM PRESLEY, with SEAN PRESLEY and MIKAL CRONIN along for the frantic carpet ride. It unrolls from within and in between them and electricity takes many forms, plunging from rock trips to acoustic strollers to poppy reveries to freak-downs at side’s end. Hair gets tangled deep in clouds of guitars and drums and counter-riffs and percussion and noise, then pressed flat and combed back with vocal harmonies and compression.

2. I Am Not A Game
3. Easy Ryder
4. The Black Glove / Rag

 In Session
Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan
$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM - 2 LPs Sealed
|
In Session, recorded in 1983, is the only known recording of Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan performing together. Its long-overdue commercial release (the album didn't come out until 1999) stands as a fitting tribute to the genius of two of the greatest musicians ever to have played the blues on electric guitar. Now, it's available on vinyl for the first time.
Anyone who's witnessed a much-anticipated jam session only to be disappointed - with each participant deferring to the other, the end result being that neither ever got out of first gear will welcome this pairing of two giants of blues guitar. Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan obviously shared a mutual admiration, but it simply wasn't in either one's makeup to a) be intimidated or b) take a backseat to anyone. Not without kicking up a little dust.
This is such a precious set to any fan of either of these blues giants. In addition to the free-spirited jams, there are priceless episodes of conversation between each song, both men exchanging accolades and King giving the much younger Vaughan (though tragically it was Vaughan who died first) some sage advice. This simply is a must-have.

 Out of the Game
Rufus Wainwright
$29.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Rufus Wainwright returns to the pop foray with his eagerly anticipated new Decca album, Out of the Game. Produced by the celebrated Mark Ronson, this is the seventh studio album from one of music's most accomplished, contemporary singer/songwriters.
A labor of love for both Wainwright and Ronson, Rufus calls Out of the Game, “the most pop album I’ve ever made,” while Ronson recently stated, “it’s the best work of my career.” Recorded in New York in the fall of 2011, the twelve songs are hook-laden, memorably arranged tracks reminiscent of Rufus’ early work, following 2010’s more quietly intimate outing, Songs For Lulu.
From the uptempo opening chords of the title track and first single, to the gospel tinged rock of "Jericho," through the beauty of "Sometimes You Need" and the emotional pull of "Candles," this new release ranks alongside Rufus Wainwright’s very best.
Musicians on the album include the Dap-Kings who Ronson used for the groundbreaking Amy Winehouse Back To Black album and his own Record Collection; Wilco’s Nels Cline; Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Andrew Wyatt from Miike Snow; and Sean Lennon and Martha Wainwright.
Influences, as ever, were all encompassing. Ronson says Out of the Game, “has a real 70’s, Laurel Canyon spirit” while Rufus cites “all the greats, Elton, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, basically the brash and beautiful. It’s also very Rufus.”
Affectionately referred to by Elton John as "the greatest songwriter on the planet" and praised by The New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Grammy nominee Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation. He is the son of folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and brother of Martha Wainwright, but Rufus has achieved his success by carving out his own singular sound in the worlds of rock, opera, theater, dance and film.

 Sibelius Song Recital
Jean Sibelius
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Jean Sibelius composed songs from the beginning almost to the end of his lifetime. Shortly before his death, he arranged the piece, which closes this album, Kom nu hit, Död, and so opened a stylistic gateway to Modernity. All the songs in this collection were composed around 1900 and are filled with Late Romantic harmony, a glorious sound and emotional feeling.
The song "Svatar Rosor" is immersed in an alternating bath of major and minor to evoke a dramatic and tragic mood, while the wonderfully colorful "Den Första Kyssen, op. 37 no. 1" depicts in music a girl’s dialogue with the evening star. And with "Flickan kom op. 37 no. 5" and "Var det en dröm op. 37 no. 4," a powerful vocal drama is placed alongside a lyrical gem. Of the latter work Sibelius allegedly said: "Here you are, this is my most beautiful song!"
Without a doubt, Kirsten Flagstad is the ideal singer for this repertoire. Her highly dramatic soprano voice rises monumentally over the surging orchestral sound but dims down appropriately and effortlessly in the hushed passages. Wagnerians, Strauss lovers and fans of grand romantic gesture will thoroughly enjoy this LP.

 Rocket Juice & The Moon
Rocket Juice & The Moon
$22.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
High up in the skies, amongst the clouds, super-group Rocket Juice & The Moon was born. It happened back in 2008, when Damon Albarn, Flea and Tony Allen convened on the same Lagos flight, to play and exchange musical ideas in that city as part of the Africa Express collective. Relishing a shared enthusiasm for one another's work, and bonding immediately, there and then, the triumvirate laid down the blueprint for Rocket Juice. Still, more than a year passed before conditions were set for three weeks together at Albarn's West London studio, recording and refining two-dozen startlingly out and deeply funky instrumental grooves. The next stage was to invite onboard some extremely talented friends, with further sessions in Dallas, New York, Chicago and Paris -- Erykah Badu, no less, queen of contemporary soul. Three companions from Africa Express: Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, whose debut album has topped World Music charts since its release; her multi-talented compatriot Cheick Tidiane Seck, whose prodigious keyboardism has lit up releases by artists ranging from Youssou N'Dour to Hank Jones; the young Ghanaian rapper M.anifest; and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, long-time stalwarts in the Honest Jon's set-up. Finally, the tracks were dispatched for mixing to Berlin, to be meticulously honed, polished and envenomed by Mark Ernestus, one-half of the legendary Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound partnerships. The result is Rocket Juice & The Moon -- a triumphant exploration and proliferation of kinetic Afro-funk rhythms: organic, exuberant, communal music-making. From the inaugural bars, the liquid pulse of Fela Kuti's classic recordings drives the action through a suite of 18 shape-shifting compositions. Allen's intricate cross-patterns jostle and lock with Flea's nimble, rumbling bass riffs. Joined by Seck on "There" and "Extinguished" -- Albarn's keyboards spray synth fusillades up top, over, and under -- splicing into the mess of wires running between the freaked Afro-disco of William Onyeabor and the space-jazz-Moog of Sun Ra. The HBE brings extra intensity and drama to "Leave-Taking" -- likewise Flea's trumpet to "Rotary Connection" -- teasing out the haunting melody coiled in the mix. Beautifully buoyed by Erykah Badu's unmistakable vocals, "Hey, Shooter" brilliantly traverses metaphysical spaceways sans any semblance of noodling. "Lolo" and "Follow-Fashion" -- featuring the open-hearted sensuality of Diawara's singing, M.anifest's brawny science, and more brass blasts -- play like its musical cousins or codas. Indeed, the album's shrewd sequencing creates the composite effect of tracks working both individually or within the context of an extended song-cycle. "Poison" is bittersweet and ruminative, and down-tempo and dubby, "Check Out" and "Worries" amplify the range of styles and moods. And by the time of "Fatherless" -- a chugging Afro-blues that evokes John Lee Hooker lost in Lagos, one gets the sneaking suspicion there's very little outside the reach of this collective's inventive musical grasp.

 Master Of My Make Believe
Santigold
$23.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Santigold is Santi White: an artist whose perseverance relies on invention, a champion who survives off her own skill and faith. She is a major muse watched by the inspired world, an in categorical performer who collapses time and genre with one hand guided by tradition, while the other hand carves out a shining future. Santigold is neither calm nor mayhem, but from her lungs burst every color in between.
After four years of hide and seek in which blogs blew up at the sudden release of any track with her name attached to it, Santigold returns in a moment of global aggression and vulnerability. Honing in on the hyper-media cult of personality, in her unmistakable voice she asks the listener: Into what fantasy do you hurl yourself as you gaze into the glow of your machine? The answer to this question is central to what drives Master of My Make-Believe, her latest work to be released this spring on Atlantic Records.
As an antidote against self-celebratory status updates in a climate where the focus on fame outweighs a days emotions, Master of My Make-Believe summons pop culture zombies back to life. This is sound proof of an artist on a diligent journey, measuring the power of individual mood against social clamor. Sifting through a wondrous wreckage of airplay, upload, and anguish, Santigolds talent lies in filtering reality through freakdom, to find in desire a timeless spark of raw magic.
Anyone caught referring to Master of My Make-Believe as a sophomore effort is only half right. Though relatively fresh as Santigold, Santi Whites history of writing, production, and performance stretch beyond the centurys flip. Her collaboration with the industrys most recognized and respected talent is something continuous and wide reaching, making her musical lineage all the much richer. Declared Best Breakthrough Artist by NME in 2008 and Pop Music Vanguard by ASCAP in 2009, the voice that defines Santigold is as complex as the faces that pack a subway car, as intimate and honest as conversation on a weathered stoop.
Through chopped pianos, the clink of glass bottles, and the peaking blast of motorcycle engines, Master of My Make-Believe accounts for 21st century details of life from the hearts center to the minds periphery. In her pen and in her voice, the breadth of substance presented in Santigolds newest songs is immediate and complex. There are valleys here wherein the drudge of daily living is met with caution and confronted by mortality, but underneath it all there is the celebration of each persons power and vision to fight toward what they believe. Consider this your invitation.
Track Listing:
1. GO!
2. Disparate Youth
3. God From The Machine

5. Freak Like Me
6. This Isn't Our Parade
7. The Riot's Gone

 Howl
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
$29.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Vinyl reissue of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's third album Howl, originally released by RCA/Echo in 2005, cut as a double LP with embossed gatefold sleeve.
Named after Allen Ginsberg's famous poem, the 12-song set marks a noticeable departure in the band's sound, infusing elements of country, blues and gospel as well as underlying themes of sin and salvation. A tribute to their hometown of San Francisco and its ties to the Beat generation, the album's appropriated retro feel may also have T Bone Burnett to thank who happens to be credited in the liner notes for "additional recording assistance."
With low-key Americana anthems like "Shuffle Your Feet" and "Ain't No Easy Way," Howl may be an uncharacteristic release in the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club catalog, but it's no less rewarding or musically accomplished.

 Strangeland
Keane
$24.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
British rockers Keane are back with their fourth studio album Strangeland due out on Cherrytree/Interscope. The album was produced by Dan Grech (Radiohead, The Vaccines, Howling Bells) at Sea Fog, Keane songwriter/pianist Tim Rice-Oxley's studio in South Downs, UK. The group is now a four piece with the addition of new bass player Jesse Quin who collaborated with Rice-Oxley in the group Mt. Desolation.
Tim Rice-Oxley on the album: "Strangeland feels like an adventure that brings with it different things for different people, and like any adventure is full of uncertainty, and the potential for mishap, as well as the possibility of amazing things and glorious discoveries. I love the idea of the journey through Strangeland being a journey of redemption."
Keane is singer Tom Chapin, drummer Richard Hughes, keyboardist Rice-Oxley and bassist Quin. Four years have elapsed since Keane’s last album Perfect Symmetry; two since Night Train, the EP which followed its three full-length predecessors to the top of the British album charts, securing them a place in pop history. If Keane’s feverishly loyal fanbase wondered what the group’s next album would sound like, they weren’t the only ones. In the eight years following the release of 2004’s 9 x platinum Brit award winning Hopes & Fears, every Keane album has marked a clear progression from the previous one: the anxious emotional terrain mapped out by Under The Iron Sea to the iridescent poptimism of Perfect Symmetry.
“In many respects, it feels like the completion of a circle,” says drummer Richard Hughes. “On the album you have songs that draw upon the experiences we used to share as kids, growing up in Battle. You can never really go back, of course. Once in a while though, after a good day, we’ll go to the local pub and talk about everything and nothing until it’s time to go home. Whatever it is that makes us Keane, that invisible glue, is still there. And you can hear it all over Strangeland.”

1. You Are Young
2. Silenced By The Night
3. Disconnected
4. Watch How You Go

6. On The Road

 AM / FM
Rita Wilson
$29.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Although Rita Wilson is well-known as an actress (It’s Complicated, Sleepless in Seattle, The Good Wife) and a film producer (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Mamma Mia!), few may be aware that her early show biz ambitions were actually musical. Born and raised in the Hollywood Hills (nearly above the Hollywood Bowl), Wilson harbored dreams of becoming a singer in the 60’s and 70’s after falling in love with The Beatles, The Mamas & the Papas, Janis Joplin, and The Supremes, among others. She even took a part-time job as a ticket-taker at what was then the Universal Amphitheatre as a way to see such popular acts of the day as Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor and The Eagles.
Wilson has finally achieved her dream with the Decca Records release of her debut album AM/FM, an intimate, elegant and beautifully sung collection of classics from the ’60s and ’70s that, taken together, make up the soundtrack to her life. “That time period was hugely influential on me as a kid and as a teenager,” she says. “I’d spend hours and hours lying on my bed, holding up the albums, reading the liner notes, and learning all the words to these songs that expressed exactly what I was feeling. They were like a little road map of human experience. Back then, we would even memorize the names of the musicians and photographers. There wasn’t a ‘thank you’ mentioned on a liner note that wasn’t studied and analyzed.”
Carefully curated by Wilson, her producer, Fred Mollin, and Decca Records’ Senior VP of A&R Jay Landers, AM/FM is filled with songs that resonate emotionally with Wilson. “I can remember where I was when I heard each one and what it meant to me,” she says. The album is essentially divided into two sections. The first half, AM, features songs from the ’60s that Wilson remembers singing along to on AM radio while riding in the back seat of her parents’ car and that recall the “lovely innocence and hopefulness of the time”: The songs include “All I Have To Do Is Dream,” (written by Vanessa Joy Amorosi, Mark Ronald Holden & Irmgard Klarmann), “Never My Love,” (written by Richard P. Addrisi & Donald J. Addrisi), “Cherish,” (written by Terry Kirkman), “Come See About Me” (written by Edward Holland Jr, Brian Holland & Lamont Dozier), “Angel Of The Morning” (written by Chip Taylor), “Walking In The Rain” (co-written by Phil Spector and songwriting team Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil for the Ronettes), “Wichita Lineman” (written by Jimmy Webb), and “You Were On My Mind” (written by Sylvia Fricker).
By the time Wilson got her own car (a Datsun 2000 Roadster) at age 17, popular music lived on FM radio. She became enamored with the folk-rock singer/songwriters who dominated those airwaves in the early ’70s and her favorite songs make up the FM half: “Good Time Charlie’s Got The Blues” (written by Danny O’Keefe), “Love Has No Pride (written by Eric Kaz & Libby Titus),” “Please Come To Boston” (written by Dave Loggins), “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” (written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King), “Faithless Love” (written by J.D. Souther), and “River” (by Joni Mitchell). “As I got older, I began to understand that not everything had a happy ending,” Wilson says, “so I was drawn to songs by women who wrote about how love was not always the dream fantasy; that there was pain and disappointment involved.”
Augmenting Wilson’s exquisite vocal performances are appearances by special guests Chris Cornell, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Webb, Jackson Browne, Faith Hill, Vince Gill, and Patty Scialfa (who also produced “Come See About Me”). “When I was growing up, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and Dolly Parton would all perform on each other's albums,” Wilson says. “I remember thinking how great it was that all these wonderful artists would help each other out. There was a camaraderie and connection between them that I thought was very cool. I’ve always loved the idea of an artistic community where people collaborated.”

 Sounds Like This
Alo
$17.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
With its delightfully vibrant blend of inventive musicality and genre-blurring reach, Sounds Like This sees ALO operating with fresh verve and vitality, their always-kaleidoscopic funk pop ‘n roll aglow with exceptionally ebullient songcraft and deliriously danceable grooves.
The California-based band’s fourth Brushfire Records release showcases their unfettered passion, wit, and imagination while simultaneously exploring hitherto uncharted musical terrain. Invigorated by an unstructured approach to the studio process, ALO have accessed new avenues of resourcefulness, resulting in a truly distinctive collection of songs that adroitly captures all the glorious ingenuity and adventure of the band’s legendary live sets.
In April of 2011, ALO convened at San Francisco’s Mission Bells studio with no plans other than to make some music together. With studio owner/longtime collaborator David Simon-Baker assisting behind the board, the band opted to take the same improvisational tack towards recording as they do on stage. Any distinctions between pre-production and real recording would be shed, allowing for ALO’s instinctive spontaneity to make it to track.
ALO let their imagination run free, both musically and lyrically, resulting in such larger-than-life highlights as the Old West flight of fancy, “Cowboys and Chorus Girls,” the self-explanatory glitterball workout, “Room For Bloomin” and at the heart of the album, the raucous reverie for days past, “Blew Out The Walls." Where prior albums featured songs penned individually and then arranged by the band, this time out, ALO were determined that their collective spirit inform every groove.

 Neck Of The Woods
Silversun Pickups
$19.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Neck of the Woods, the third album from Los Angeles, CA fuzz-rockers Silversun Pickups, started with a chance meeting when the band stumbled across Grammy-winning producer Jacknife Lee (R.E.M., U2, Weezer) while recording guest vocals for a Snow Patrol track. But band frontman Brian Aubert is quick to point out that, in fact, pretty much everything about the album from producer to studio location right down to its found-photo album art, has been serendipitous. "It's bizarre," the affable singer/guitarist explains. "We can't take credit for any of it. It just accidentally happened."
For one example of a happy accident, Aubert was surprised to discover Lee's home studio was smack in the middle of the Topanga Canyon woods, minutes from where the singer grew up. "I hadn't been back in years, he recalls. "I thought it would be fun to walk down my old street. It was like playing with fire a little bit. So much came back that I had forgotten about and it was a really emotional experience. I just realized this place and the feelings I had are still ingrained in me."
Aubert says the songs sound "like a horror movie," all of them beginning to percolate while he was country-hopping and people-watching during a European vacation. "(2009's) Swoon was more about what I was feeling at that particular time," he says, "whereas with this one, I wanted to see what built me. It was learning why I am the way I am."

Limited Edition - 1,000 Copies
Hand pulled screen cover art
Its not often that an album disavowed by its own
author at the time of release goes on to become considered
a modern classic. Yet thats exactly what
happened with Chicago blues legend Howlin Wolfs
1969 LP The Howlin Wolf Album, a release that has
since attained mythical status due to the controversy
behind it.
Released on Cadet Records, a subsidiary of legendary

Album was a radical experiment for a well established
artist: attempt to integrate electric instruments
and psychedelic arrangements into his revered
signature blues sound. The result was an album that
Wolf himself initially disregarded on the nowinfamous
cover, but one that has won a special place
amongst dedicated music aficionados thanks to its
unique mix of traditional blues and electric rock elements.
Get On Downs reputation for high quality reissues
continues with The Howlin Wolf Album, which
features a special Stoughton vinyl pressing with
audio remastered from the original analog tapes for
optimum sound quality and comes packaged in a

FANTASTIC 180 GRAM BROWN VINYL REISSUE OF THIS LEGENDARY LEONARD COHEN LIVE PERFORMANCE
RARE LIVE BROADCAST FEATURES RECORDINGS OF BIRD ON A WIRE, SUZANNE AND JOAN OF ARC
1988 was notable in the career of Leonard Cohen for a number of reasons. Not only was he was still reeling from the rejuvenation of his career in the US, largely as a result of Jennifer Warnes Cohen covers album from the previous year, Famous Blue Raincoat, but his own, second album of the decade was finally released.
Im Your Man was a collection of songs quite unlike anything Leonard had recorded previously, and the sound, replete with fashionable 1980s synthesisers, was greeted with applause unlike similar forays from contemporaries such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
The album was promoted via a series of television interviews, and an extensive tour of Europe, Canada and the U.S. Many shows were broadcast on European and US television and radio, but generally considered to be the finest of the tour was transmitted across the airwaves from the Massey Hall in Canada on 9th November.
Featuring 6 of the 8 numbers from I’m Your Man augmented by a gorgeous Joan Of Arc, a lengthy I Tried To Leave You - featuring band introductions and a few amusing anecdotes - and from his previous record, 1984s New Positions, Heart With No Companion and Coming Back To You are featured too.
Being on home turf, Leonard was never going to get out alive without giving the old guard a bit of what they came for most, so the show is almost bookended by classics Bird On A Wire and Suzanne.
As the final track on this wonderful LP, Leonards reading of his 1992 epic The Future , from the album of the same name, broadcast live on Canadian TV in 93, is included as a bonus cut.

Originally released in 1982, The Nightfly is the critically acclaimed debut solo album from Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen. Nominated for several Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year, The Nightfly was certified Platinum in both the US and the UK thanks to the album's duo of hits in "I.G.Y." and "New Frontier." 180g vinyl in Stoughton single-pocket paper-wrapped jacket with lyric insert at Furnace/Record Industry.
