 Quatrain

High Definition Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Mention the sole and frighteningly rare 1968 LP by LA’s Quatrain among devoted psych collectors and the response will likely be a unison chorus of solemnly nodding heads. Slip a copy of this lost, heavy monster on the turntable, however, and those same heads will bang hard in wah-wah-smeared, acid-rock ecstasy.
From ’65 to ’69 Quatrain was a regular attraction on the Southern California scene, working as the house band at the popular Topanga Corral and up and down the Sunset Strip.
“We played places like the Hullabaloo, the Stratford,” recalls Quatrain drummer Jim Lekas. “We shared bills with The Byrds, Love, the Buffalo Springfield, went up against Spirit in a battle of the bands. We used to play with The Leaves all the time. It was just an incredible period, so much great music going on. And we were right there in the middle of it.”
Produced and engineered by future Neil Young producer David Briggs, Quatrain burns with stinging fuzz-guitar leads (“Fragments,” “Ask Me No Questions,” the cryptic “Flowing Robes”) and floats and flickers like orange sunshine (“Rollin,” “The Tree”).

Can's Radio Waves is a fine collection of rarities gathered from various recordings, most of which are live and include vocalist Damo Suzuki. "Up the Bakerloo" is an earlier version of the track from The Peel Sessions, though twice as long and featuring Damo Suzuki's free-form vocals; "Paperhouse" was recorded from an energetic German TV appearance; "Entropy," from a live show in 1970; and "Little Star of Bethlehem" the only song here featuring vocalist, Malcolm Mooney. The final two cuts are B-sides of singles that never made it on a proper album; "Turtles Have Short Legs" and "Shikaku Maru Ten."

PJ Harvey’s second album, 1993’s Rid Of Me, is an art-punk classic that pushes the genre and the listener to extremes. Alternating between searing noise/feedback and sparse open spaces, Rid Of Me is truly an emotional experience. As usual, legendary producer Steve Albini maximizes every space and sound, working with that exacting, mechanical precision that he has become known for, the perfect complement to Harvey’s harsh, stark, disturbed songwriting. #52 on Pitchfork’s 'Top 100 Albums of the 1990s,' PJ Harvey’s best album is back in print here on 180g vinyl for the first time in years!

Straight out of South Yorks comes 'the rap Jonnie Briggs' and Sheffield's one-man answer to the Beastie Boys, Kid Acne. Romance Ain't Dead is an 11 track assault that's one of the funniest and slickest albums of the year. Romance Ain't Dead's many highlights include; the straight up braggadocio warning shots of opener "Eddy Fresh"; "Don't Pity Me's" autobiographical tales of Acne's acid fuelled hospital trip and first exposure to NWA; the blazing, fuzzed out "2,3 Break It"; South Yorkshire tourist board's worst nightmare comes true in "South Yorks" and the final rowdy jamboree of the lead single "Sliding Doors." The album features the programmed beats of Brighton based Req One and fellow Sheffield resident Ross Orton handles the fine production. Orton's other credits include production on MIA's Arular and Kala as well as being the drummer for Jarvis Cocker.

 Rook
Shearwater
$15.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

|
Austin's Shearwater returns with their hugely ambitious followup to 2006's Palo Santo. Rook meditates on man's intersection with the natural world. Images of animals and landscapes act as metaphors for human relationships, a dark fairy tale encased in a cycle of songs.
Jonathan Meiburg's bold, soaring voice, occasionally falsetto, still anchors the songs, which broaden his pastoral pro-folk chaotic celestial mindbend into new realms. Beyond the continuing touchstones of late Talk Talk, Nico and John Cale, there are now allusions to Van Morrison and hints of Joni Mitchell. All this is set in a newly lush sonic gorgeousness of harp, strings and woodwinds atop the magnificent rhythm section of Thor Harris and Kim Burke. This LP version comes on 180g Vinyl in a Stoughton gatefold jacket and includes MP3s and a bonus track.

 Rott 'N' Roll
Grayson Capps
$16.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed

Rott ‘N’ Roll has become the phrase of choice for Grayson Capps fans to use in describing his music. It expresses the raw energy of Grayson’s songs that mix backwoods rock, southern soul and country blues with tales of prostitutes, alcoholics, drifters and paranoia. On his fourth album, Grayson and his band The Stumpknockers churn and burn harder than ever. Raucous numbers like “Big Black Buzzard, ” “The Sun Don’t Shine On Willy” and “Going Back To The Country” are instant classics in the singer/songwriter’s repertoire. Yet a more introspective side is also on display with two of the most personal songs he’s written to date, “Arrowhead” and “Guitar.” Having drawn comparisons over the last few years to the likes of Tom Waits, Townes Van Zandt and Drive By Truckers, Rott ‘N’ Roll proves that Grayson’s vision is ultimately as singular as those to who he’s compared.

 Salt And Pepper

$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
One of the underrated gems of the 1960s, Salt And Pepper is an exciting matchup of tenors Sonny Stitt and Paul Gonsalves. It is very much a jam session set, with "Salt And Pepper" being a heated medium-tempo blues and the two competitive tenors stretching out on "S'posin'" and a lengthy "Perdido." The most memorable selection from the date is the one on which Stitt switches to alto, "Stardust." His beautiful playing behind Gonsalves' warm melody statement raises the session to the classic level. Also included on this consistently exciting release is a Sonny Stitt quartet set. Although Stitt (doubling on alto and tenor) recorded scores of quartet sessions, he sounds particularly inspired here, especially on such offbeat material as "Estralita," the Dixieland standard "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" and "My Mother's Eyes." Highly recommended to bebop and straight-ahead jazz fans.

Lisa Hannigan, the acclaimed Irish singer whom The New York Times calls "exquisitely ethereal," is poised for the release of her highly anticipated solo debut, Sea Sew. Hannigan's chance meeting with acclaimed singer-songwriter Damien Rice led to a long period of collaboration and development. From the outset, Hannigan quickly generated attention for her own vocal performances and spent the subsequent few years touring the world, meeting wonderful musicians and friends, writing songs and contributing backing vocals on many friends' records. Such collaborations included the Frames and Mic Christopher and Hannigan even sang with the legendary Herbie Hancock. During her seven-year collaboration with Rice, Hannigan compiled a notebook of songs that make up this record. Hannigan, along with a talented band of friends including Tom Osander on drums, Shane Fitzsimons on double bass, Donagh Molloy on trumpet, melodica and glockenspiel, Gavin Glass on piano, Lucy Wilkins on violin and Vyvienne Long on cello, recorded Sea Sew over 14 days in Dublin.

Originally recorded in 1999, The Get Up Kids' second full-length album, Something To Write Home About has all the elements of a perfect emo record; catchy pop hooks, revving guitars and confessional lyrics about confusion, alienation and loss. The angst and need at the center of this music lends the album an aura of youthful naivete, but the Get Up Kids have the songcraft, focus and sincerity to back it up here, giving them the edge on many of their contemporaries.

This program of sultry, minor key music with a Brazilian tinge seems inspired by Ike Quebec, who was suffering from advanced cancer that would claim his life three months later. But here is big-toned, impassioned tenor is in tact. Quebec's take on the bossa nova craze that explored that year (1962) is more muscular than Stan Getz's and doesn't rely on the familiar Jobim and Gilberto songs of the day. He and Kenny Burrell solo on the sly, subtle rhythms of Wendell Marshall, Willie Bobo and Garvin Masseaux.

1965 was one of the turning points in the career of John Coltrane. The great saxophonist, whose playing was always very explorative and searching, crossed the line into atonality during that year, playing very free improvisations that were full of passion and fury. Just two months after recording A Love Supreme, Trane began recording an album of outside material heard here on The John Coltrane Quartet Plays. The Light Of A Golden Day, The Arms Of The Night
Douglas Armour
$14.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
The Light Of A Golden Day, The Arms Of The Night is the debut LP from Los Angeles located Douglas Armour. The album finds the artist expertly blending our favorite poptones from days past to create a hyper-literate pastiche that’s equal parts nostalgia and forward-thinking. Echoing its title, the LP has a structure that plays off binary oppositions to create one of the most varied pop albums we’ve heard in a long time.
The first movement is defined by crunchy, danceable house beats that provide a sonic bedrock for the lush bubblegum harmonies that Armour never lets us down with. Tight basslines merge with drum machines and are colored with cloudy synthesizer passages and crystal-clear guitar lines to perfectly compliment the vocal melodies. "Fall Apart Again" is reminiscent of a West Coast version of Hot Chip, even breezier and sunnier with less irony and more hooks. "Trembling, On the Verge" adds to the formula by going back even further and ending up sounding like Hall & Oats with access to today’s equipment.
The second movement finds Armour in a more reflective state-of-mind with gritty electronics swapped for warm Wurlitzer tones, shimmering Southern California guitars and a subtle yet effective alt-country slant that provides a stunning contrast to the record’s first half. "As Bright as the Stars" is a little bit folk and the poppy hook is unavoidable. Also included here is the "Prince of Wands," a carryover from Armour’s 7-inch which has been a DJ staple in New York for almost a year now. And, finally,
The Light Of A Golden Day, The Arms Of The Night concludes with "The Mystery, It Never Lasts," a finely crafted acoustic closer that finds the singer repeatedly calling out for Los Angeles in beautiful, angelic harmonies remeniscient of the late Elliott Smith.
Great lyrics, tight arrangements and lush instrumentation allow Armour to play with genre expectations on his own terms here, creating a blended concoction that feels like an old friend has come to visit and the bond is new again.

Import LP
The British one hit wonder who in the mid '60s topped the charts with the classic "You Were On My Mind" and then 1966's "Pied Piper," which became a global smash hit and is still remembered as one of the defining songs of an era. Many had Crispian St. Peters pegged to become the new Tom Jones, but after just a few hits he completely dropped off the radar. Besides these two songs, he is also remembered for some comments he made about being better than the Beatles, claiming at one point to have written dozens of songs, all better than anything McCartney or Lennon had ever written. An incredible retrospective on a superior quality double 180g Import LP set.

Blue Note Reissue
"…As much as I'd love to relay all kinds of anecdotes about the challenges Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray encounter during the mastering sessions, I witness none. These boys know the sound of the facility and the Van Gelder masters like the backs of their hands…Back home a month later, I unpack some test pressings Chad Kassem has sent me…I hear the most realistic-sounding drums ever reproduced by my system. It's as though I'm sitting at the point of creation, experiencing the same high that brought such gifted musicians together as one. Steve Hoffman, Kevin Gray, Chad Kassem, and Don MacInnis have done Rudy Van Gelder and his Blue Note artists proud." – Jason Victor Serinus, Stereophile, April 2008
Tokyo Blues, a quintessential mid-'60s Blue Note session, is Horace Silver's tribute to the Japanese people who have long supported his funky, Latin-flavored modern jazz. American jazz has always been wildly popular in Japan, and this album is Silver's homage to the many fans that he has encountered on various triumphant tours of the island nation. While Silver's trademark funky Latin/swing is at the forefront, the inspiration of eastern delights is clearly evident in all aspects of this grooving date.

 The Young Disciples

Release Date: January 2009
By 1967, East St. Louis, Illinois, once dubbed an All-American city by the U.S. Chamber Of Comerce, had become St Louis, Missouri's evil twin. Unemployment, drug addiction and vicious gang activity put a dark and heavy lid on a bi-state area that once birthed world-changing talent the likes of Chuck Berry, Josephine Baker and Miles Davis. But both cities still spawned their heroes, and Allan Merry was one of them. Something of a legend for his work with Ray Charles, Merry channeled his talent into teaching, forming the Young Disciples through the South End Community Center to keep the kids off the streets and out of the gangs. With nearly eighty local youths involved, from both sides of the Mississippi, the Young Disciples encompassed solo acts, duos, male and female vocal groups, a massive horn section, and a troupe of African dancers. Every sweat-drenched recording included here emerged from this grass-roots organization that changed, if not saved, lives. Former East St Louis Mayor Carl Officer had a slogan he liked to pitch: "There's A City Under Here." Here's the musical proof of that possibility. Deluxe 2LP set comes housed in a brick-thick gatefold sleeve with 21 re-mastered tracks and a pull out YoDi brochure.

Polly Jean's third proper album is her most mature and accomplished to date. Following the harsh sound and brutal honesty of Rid Of Me, To Bring You My Love feels like a step outside of herself, a reflection rather than an outpouring of emotion. Relying heavily on religious imagery and presenting a twisted blues reminiscent of future-beau Nick Cave or Tom Waits, To Bring You My Love is quite a departure from the sparseness of Steve Albini's production on Rid Of Me.

 Today And Now
Coleman Hawkins
$49.99
45 RPM 180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - 2 LPs Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
Coleman Hawkins recorded three sessions for Impulse Records in the early to mid '60's. Of the three, Today And Now is the most compelling and the unusual choice of repertoire is what sets the album apart. The Hawk plays with an abandon that is altogether effortless throughout and his versions of the traditional song "Go Li'l Liza" and the fairly obscure Quincy Jones ballad "Quintessence" are creatively rendered. His band consisting of pianist Tommy Flanagan, bass player Major Holley and drummer Eddie Locke, back the tenor king here with a similar imaginative approach. A largely impromptu session, each song develops and evolves with each chorus, and it would serve as one of Hawkins' last great records.

Garage fans agree: We The People’s ragin, tough-as-nails punk tracks “Mirror of Your Mind” and “You Burn Me Up and Down” rate among the era’s best. But believe it or not this band was capable of even more. Along with the above two hammer-down classics, Too Much Noise collates everything the seminal—and surprisingly diverse—Central Florida outfit cut for the Challenge label during the band’s mid-’60s heyday, including the raga-rock fave “In the Past” (covered by the Chocolate Watchband) and the tender folk-rock ballad “(You Are) The Color of Love.”
Sourced from the original analog masters, here are We the People’s three scarce and essential Challenge single sides plus material recorded for the label but unreleased at the time—all of it in raw, skull-crushing fidelity on CD and high-definition vinyl.

Released in 1976 as an expansion of 1974's Limited Edition, Unlimited Edition collects previously unreleased recordings made by Can between 1968 and 1974. A distinct looseness permeates the songs here and many of the 19 tracks, including several from their ongoing Ethnological Forgeries series, are instrumentals, however, both former singers Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki are also represented. Unlimited Edition is a fascinating insight into a band that at times has been looked upon with an almost religious zeal and a lot of what's presented here easily stands up on its own and with the band's legend.

Release Date: February 2009
The long awaited re-issue of 1982's Vicious Circle from Indianapolis-based Zero Boys. Unlike most coast punk of the time, the Zero Boys were pointing the way to a scene that could accommodate heaping helpings of melody, intelligence, and rock 'n roll, not just turbo-charged ferocity. When the Ramones lost it, the Zero Boys found it, adding a slam brigade fist to the blitzkrieg beat. They managed to come up with one of the best early '80s punk records. Vicious Circle has been remastered from the original tapes. Liner notes by Jack Rabid. Between this and History Of, the entire recorded output of this legendary Midwest punk band's original line up is finally collected.

Debuting on Speak n Spell Records in 2006 with the Shaky Hands EP, Cut Off Your Hands quickly set stages and airwaves on fire. With nationwide billing on 2007's Laneway Festival and jaunts to LA, SXSW and New York, it was tellingly, the band's first visit to London that proved to be their watershed moment. Having been bewitched by the band in Texas, Steve Lamacq (hosting John Peel's old show on the BBC) wasted no time in pulling them into his Maida Vale studios. It was also while in London that the group found themselves working with ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler on their second EP, Blue on Blue. Now, based in Hackney, London, the band have put the final coat on this, their debut LP, You And I, with Butler once again at the helm.

You Dig The Tunnel, I'll Hide The Soil is the London Quartet, Hatcham Social's debut album recorded at Big Mushroom studios in the north of England with the Charlatans singer Tim Burgess and Jim Spencer at the controls. A few live favorites make reappearances but otherwise the album consists of brand new songs highlighted by the lead single "Murder in the Dark" and the frankly terrific summer-anthem-in-waiting "Sidewalk."

In late May 1968 (the exact date not known) the Beatles came together at 'Kinfauns', George Harrison's home is Esher. One by one, first John, then George, then Paul, they recorded 23 of their newest compositions by double tracking themselves on George's reel-to-reel tape machine. These songs, most of which were written during the Beatles' two-month stay on a meditation course in Rishikesh, India, February to April 1968, were subse2quently recorded for the 'White Album'. Not all of them made it onto vinyl and thus remain unreleased (at least as Beatles versions). Judging by the outcome of this session, it must have been a very sunny and relaxing day. Spring certainly was in the air (and a bit of pot maybe). Just accompanied by their acoustic guitars, John, Paul, and George recorded very charming and joyful early versions of their newest tunes. Sometimes slightly out of sync with their own double tracking - but who cares? Spontanity counts! Had this session been recorded 30 years later, it would have been a bonafide MTV Unplugged performance!

One of Dorham"s tried and true classics, 1961’s Whistle Stop is a virtual all-star collective. Again featuring his former Jazz Messenger band mate Hank Mobley on tenor (when did this guy eat or sleep?), it equally showcases the classic stylings of pianist Kenny Drew, Paul Chamber’s bass and perennially solid Philly Joe Jones on the skins. This album presents the jazz classic Blue Bo! ssa , as well as Epitaph, a majestic, concise coda enhanced by Dorham’s fine mute work, on-par with the Milesian standard. Cut from the original MONO master tapes by Bernie Grundman using Classic Records’ ALL TUBE pure MONO cutting system and pressed on Classic Records Quiex SV-P II proprietary “flat” profile.
Clarity Vinyl represents the ultimate in vinyl formulations because it is comprised of over 90% percentage of the highest quality co-polymer available - a key component in vinyl pellets used for manufacturing vinyl records. Further, Clarity Vinyl has no carbon black additive, common in vinyl formulas for LP’s. Carbon Black contains trace metals that become magnetized and cause “electrical distortions” in cartridges during playback that smears the sound. By taking out the Carbon Black, Classic Records is able to dramatically reduce the “electrical distortions” and thus bring more “Clarity” to the playback process, providing a more realistic musical experience to the listener and LP enthusiast.

Boasting the first jazz instrumental to sell a million copies, the Paul Desmond-penned "Take Five," Time Out captures the celebrated jazz quartet at the height of both its popularity and its powers. Recorded in 1959, the album combines superb performances by pianist Dave Brubeck, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, drummer Joe Morrello and bassist Gene Wright. Along with "Take Five," the album features another one of the group's signature compositions, "Blue Rondo a la Turk." Though influenced by the West Coast-cool school, Brubeck's greatest interest and contribution to jazz was the use of irregular meters in composition, which he did with great flair. Much of the band's appeal is due to Desmond, whose airy tone and fluid attack often carried the band's already strong performances to another level. Together, he and Brubeck proved one of the most potent pairings of the era. Now available on Classic Records Clarity Vinyl SVP-II 200g as a Single Sided 45rpm Four Disc Deluxe Box Set.

Charles Mingus’s name appears no less than five times on the record sleeve! His vanity may be open to criticism, but in the case of this particular disc, the Impulse record company was quite right to place him so forcefully in the limelight: Charles Mingus, who died in 1979, is here composer, bass player, arranger, leader and ‘animal tamer’.
He composed six of the seven numbers - if you can call it ‘composing’, that is, when he sings the harmonies over the telephone or plays them to his musicians, only to demand exactly the opposite from them in the recording studio!
As a bass player, his meaty sound drives the soloists onwards, only for him to change the tempo abruptly at the very next moment, and forcing them to change their well-trodden improvisational path.
He learned to arrange music from Duke Ellington, whose way of working he adopted: notes are not set down for just anyone to play, but for a specific musician. And here we have the crème de la crème: Booker Ervin, Eric Dolphy and Charlie Mariano.
As a leader, Mingus created his own special moments such as when he forces the whole ensemble to follow him in his spontaneous, contrapuntal ideas.
And during the whole of his life he felt like an animal tamer in the music pit. At these recording sessions in January and September 1963, real personalities sat on the stools - and Messrs. Byard, Williams, Preston and Richmond were by no means meek little creatures.
Looking for a tip as to which title to play first? What else can one say but ‘try them all’. They’re all great! And the pressing too, is absolutely first rate, with none of the streaks that the old Impulse vinyl records always had. One is only too willing to forego the wishy-washy sound that is found on so many of the cheap re-releases - you’ll find that the playing of the ensemble is crystal-clear on this album!

"I have my two new Blue Note LPs here and as I sit writing this I am listening to the Dexter Gordon, WOW!…sitting here listening to this wonderful music, just clean, no background noise, a black background, like the studio that they recorded this in, it is wonderful. The instruments coming out of the sound stage positioned as they were recorded, this is a real treat." – Miller Steel, Acoustic Sounds customer
"...these first five Acoustic Sounds Blue Note re-issues are pure bop genius...The best news is that Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman were keen enough to do nothing more than gently clean up the masters, bringing us even closer to the hard bop edge. The 45 rpm pressings that I received were all super quiet with every last drop of resolution from the master tapes. I had almost forgotten just how good Paul Chambers and Phil Joe were together as the backbone of these groups. I've always loved this music but I didn't remember it sounding this good! Hank Mobley offers us some brilliant sax bits on one of Kenny Dorham's finest recordings, Whistle Stop and Dexter Gordon's performance blew me away as well. The biggest surprise were the Lee Morgan records. I suggest turning these up loud, since they possess unlimited energy and some hooks that will knock you out. Amazing! Just a small warning: Once you start playing these Blue Note recordings you will be hooked. The good news is that Acoustic Sounds is working on at least 20 more of these jazz gems. So make sure your turntable has a setting for 45 rpm, clean your stylus occassionally, and get ready to be transported to nirvana." - Dan Babineau, Tone Audio, No. 14 2008, www.tonepublications.com
"I have just listened, in succession, to my mono and early stereo versions of each LP. I have purchased other similar reissues over the years, but find the engineering and pressing of this 45rpm/180 series to be superior to all to others. This is particularly since I find many new releases to be of inferior quality or handling during manufacture, despite being re-engineered and of heavier vinyl." – Barry Paulson, Acoustic Sounds customer
Dexter Gordon connects immediately with the sublime rhythm section of Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones on this, his second Blue Note album. The material ranges from Drew originals to pieces from Gordon's score for the Los Angeles production of "The Connection" to stunning performances of the standards "The End Of A Love Affair" and "Smile."

 Cloud Nine
The Temptations

A masterpiece in psychedelic soul from The Temptations and perhaps the most perfectly realized album from their years working with Norman Whitfield! The set's awash in that bottom-heavy, rumbling funk mode that Whitfield brought to the group at the end of the 60s, served up in bold tracks that push the group's vocals to a whole new level, and which bring in a more righteous sound than anyone might have expected previously from Motown! The centerpiece here is the amazing "Runaway Child," a really extended number that has all the political soul of a Curtis Mayfield tune. Other titles include "Cloud Nine," "Don't Let Him Take Your Love From Me," "Love Is A Hurtin Thing," "I Gotta Find A Way," "I Need Your Lovin" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine."

 Art Blakey!!!!! Jazz Messengers!!!!!
Art Blakey

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Art Blakey discovered and championed young talented musicians such as Clifford Brown, Lou Donaldson, Keith Jarrett and Wynton Marsalis to name but a few. But he also delivered the "message" of hard bop through thousands of performances at festivals right down to the smallest club. Lively, joyous performances, the very highest technical standards and somnambulistic music-making characterize this recording. Right from the very start it is clear that these jazz ambassadors have a new message for us. The hard-beat recordings win in lyricism thanks to the gentle sound of Curtis Fuller's trombone, something that was often missing in the powerful Blue Note sound. Four jazz evergreens give the musicians the time and opportunity to display their soloistic talents. The real climax, however, is to be found in the harmonic layering of the three winds which lend the themes new appeal. The message was broadcasted many times until the death of Art Blakey, but the history of jazz would have been a great deal poorer without these milestone recordings on the Impulse label. Art Blakey certainly knew how to delight his audience with fire, originality, a wealth of ideas and great humor. All these attributes are applicable to the six titles on this album.

It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best
Karen Dalton
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
After re-releasing vaunted folk-singer Karen Dalton's sophomore LP In My Own Time in 2006, Light In The Attic Records is proud to announce a much needed official vinyl reissue of her 1969 Capitol debut. Its So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best is a heart wrenching and bluesy introduction to the intoxicating world of Dalton and her deep well of musical secrets.
It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best spans generations of classic American songwriting (Ledbelly, Jelly Roll Morton, and Tim Hardin) and with Dalton’s unsurpassed interpretive depth and emotional range, it’s no surprise that artists from Fred Neil to Nick Cave have sung Dalton’s praises over the years. Even the likes of Bob Dylan have fallen under her spell, recalling the singer’s illuminating presence on the New York music scene during the pair’s formative Greenwich Village days: “My favorite singer in the place was Karen Dalton. She had a voice like Billie Holiday’s and played the guitar like Jimmy Reed.” But championing endorsements aside, all you have to do is drop the needle on the grooves to understand.
World weary and filled with the blues, Dalton’s tragic life story was a rocky road. While no longer with us in the physical, her growing musical presence is stronger than ever and worthy of re-examination by the converted and uninitiated alike. Selling poorly at the time of release, original vinyl copies of It’s So Hard To Tell Who’s Going To Love You The Best have all but vanished while bootleg internet rips take away all the soul. With period artwork, tip-on jacket, extensive liner notes, photos, and clear audio re-mastered from the original Capitol masters, this Light In The Attic reissue is set to become the definitive analogue version of Dalton’s stunning debut. Dim the lights and turn that stereo up, Karen Dalton will turn your living room into private concert, an intimate performance you will never forget.

The band that was “louder than the Who,” John's Children became one of the earliest examples of psychedelic flower power. Jagged Time Lapse finds the one and only Marc Bolan (T.Rex) at his loudest and the album features everything you could ask for from one of Britain’s most rambunctious bands. In fact, the band's stage show, which included band members fighting each other and Bolan whipping the stage with a chain, was a huge influence on punk rock. Includes band favorites such as: “Desdemona” (which was banned by the BBC due to its controversial lyrics), “Midsummer Night’s Scene” and “Go-Go Girl.” Also features a bonus track cover of The Beatles’ “Help.”
