Although, originally hailing from different parts of the UK, the Lovvers formed while all four members were living in Nottingham in 2005. The group re-calls the spirit of the Germs, the weirdeness of Flipper, the pop-style of the Wipers, and the carefree attitude of The Replacements.

Having released four noisy 7" singles, the band signed to Wichita Recordings in 2008 and released the Think EP that same year. With OCD Go Go Girls the Lovvers set about making a record that in their own words is “an unconventional weird pop record.” The first single of the same name takes the Real Kids or Television and perhaps adds a touch of influence from the Lovvers’ other favorite bands, such as No Age or Times New Viking. The album is new-meets-old but by the end it’s fuzzed out Woodstock. This is vintage stuff; a completely analog recording.

Prior to striking out on his own as an adult artist Michael Jackson released four solo studio albums on Motown Records from 1972 - 1975. Two Fingers are Brazilian beat adventurer pioneer Amon Tobin and Joe "Doubleclick" Chapman. The pair met when Tobin lived in Brighton and bonded over an interest in music that ran way beyond the boundaries of electronica. Together in Montreal, they applied production techniques associated with U.K. styles such as drum & bass to the template of hip hop. U.K. artist, Sway was so taken with what they were doing, he flew straight out to Montreal and recorded seven tracks with them. The remaining rhythms were voiced by some time Missy protege Ms. Jade and dancehall legend Ce'Cile. The result is a project unlike anything that any of the three main players has ever made before. It is a unique, utterly uncompromising, brutal and beautiful record that could only have grown out of the U.K. and the internationalism of those involved.

Inside Karen O is a Wild Thing, as singer for the Grammy-nominated Yeah Yeah Yeahs, her wild thing is in your face, vulnerable, obnoxious, tender, exciting... a self-proclaimed "spazoid." To Oscar-nominated Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze, however, Karen O and her music possess something of a child-like innocence, a guileless charm that put her exactly on the right emotional wavelength to sonically capture the film, be it a tender moment or a wild rumpus.

To compose the music, O enlisted friends and fellow musicians she believed had a musical intuition that would bolster her intent to marry sound to vision. Dubbed Karen O and the Kids, these include Tristan Bechet (Services), Tom Biller (co-producer with Karen O and member of Afternoons), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs), Aaron Hemphill (Liars), Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee), Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes), Oscar Michel (Gris Gris), Imaad Wasif (New Folk Implosion, Alaska), Nick Zinner, (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and an untrained children's choir. "I didn't want to make music that was hammering you over the head or go for some kind of pushbutton emotion," O says. "What I initially wanted to do was close to Cat Stevens in Harold & Maude, really simple, but memorably and seamlessly woven into the movie.

"Working with all these highly-empathetic musicians over of a couple of years on this soundtrack was a lesson in the power of collaboration," says O.

Together, Karen O and the Kids created songs that are at times gargantuan and at others stripped-down and bittersweet. Jonze pushed O to pour as much heart and soul as she could muster into the songs, reminding her that the music would play a heavy role in the film. That's saying a lot, considering it's based on the Maurice Sendak classic, one of the most beloved books of all time, with a screenplay co-written by Jonze and author and McSweeney's publisher Dave Eggers. Where the Wild Things Are is ultimately a story about childhood and the places we go to figure out the world we live in.

Between 1970 and 1972, Stephen Stills was busy playing with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and working on a series of solo albums. In addition to all this activity he led the super group that appears on this stunning release. Manassas finds Stills and company (Chris Hillman, Dallas Taylor and Al Perkins among others) at the intersection of rock, folk, country and blues. Distinctive styles are noticeable song by song, yet it is the strength and credibility of the mixture that makes Manassas such a great overall experience. The first fourth of the album focuses on '60s rock with Afro-Cuban overtones, followed by a batch of country and bluegrass-oriented material. The folk-rock track "It Doesn't Matter" kicks off the third section and the final section wraps the set up with the rootsy groove of "Blues Man," a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Embryonic is The Flaming Lips' 12th studio album and first double LP. According to ringleader Wayne Coyne, Embryonic was conceived as a double album as a means of forcing the band to become more free and uninhibited. “I believe I was stuck thinking of us as being a group of reckless, sloppy freaks,” he explains “and that, if we weren’t constantly trying to be more disciplined or more refined or more together, maybe our creative luck would elude us.” As the title suggests, Embryonic has an air of being a work in progress rather than a completed action and it makes for some very exciting and liberating music from one of music's most enigmatic performers.

Ranked #1 in Kerrang magazine's "100 Gigs That Shook The World" and voted as "Nirvana's #1 Greatest Moment" by fans in an NME poll, Nirvana's historic August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at the UK's Reading Festival is one of the most bootlegged concerts in the annals of rock 'n' roll. Now, fans finally can own a pristine copy of that entire performance complete with remastered audio.

While the show’s centerpiece was a performance of nearly the entire Nevermind tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn’t be released until a year later on In Utero: "All Apologies,” “Dumb,” and, in its first ever public performance, “Tourette’s." The career-spanning set list also reached back to the band’s 1989 Sub Pop debut album, Bleach, for “Blew,” “About A Girl,” “School,” “Negative Creep,” and the band's first single “Love Buzz,” and even further back for “Spank Thru.”

John Mayer's Battle Studies was co-produced by Mayer and Steve Jordan and debuts three years after his critically acclaimed 2006 album, Continuum. Incorporating the warmth, melodies and simplicity of '70's and '80's California rock/pop, Battle Studies is a confessional, relaxed and liberated album recorded in a private home in California where Mayer lived and worked over the course of six months before wrapping at the famed Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.

The album's first single, "Who Says" challenges conventional standards of what one can accomplish or undertake despite society's constraints. Dire Straits’ self-titled debut arrived in the midst of punk’s reign but couldn’t have been further removed from the era’s slash-and-burn style. These recordings from March 13, 1958 see a 32-year-old John Coltrane playing an obscure date with little known jazz trumpeter/flugelhorn player, Wilbur Harden. These recordings made at the legendary Van Gelder studios also include Tommy Flanagan on piano, Doug Watkins on bass and Louis Hayes on drums (while the 2 bonus tracks feature Curtis Fuller on trombone, Ali Jackson on bass, Howard Williams on piano, and Arthur Taylor on drums). The immensely talented, but equally obscure Harden appeared on several Yusef Lateef and Curtis Fuller records for Savoy as well as leading his own sessions in the late '50s, only to drop out of the jazz scene entirely by 1960 due to health problems (and finally pass away in 1969). In fact, Harden was a great composer and a pioneer on the flugelhorn and all the tracks on this album are Harden compositions. Coltrane, as history has shown, fared much better, and during this period was just on the cusp of super-stardom. He was busy playing around NYC with Thelonious Monk, and had recently rejoined the Miles Davis sextet, and it would not be long before Coltrane would begin leading his own sessions, soon becoming a household name in jazz. Not only did he single-handedly save much of American folk music from extinction, but when he handed his record collection over to Smithsonian folkways in 1952, he opened the floodgates for the American folk revival of the following decade. Not since John and Alan Lomax had anyone paid so much attention to saving the American folk song from extinction, but unlike the Lomaxes, Smith was not a government worker armed with a tape recorder, he was just a guy from Portland, Oregon armed with a love for music and an insatiably curious mind. So, when the U.S. Government began melting down old records to be used as shellac during WWII, Smith kicked into high gear, buying up as many old 78s from the '20s and '30s as he could find. Much of the music found here then, comes from a time before television, arm-in-arm with rock & roll, began beaming its über-culture into every household in America erasing much of what had grown up locally in each area. As can be heard so beautifully on these ballads, prior to WWII America was in many ways no more than a patchwork of territories, with local cultures and musical traditions reaching both far into the immigrant past of each area's inhabitants, but also into the future to create something wonderful and firmly rooted in the newness and adventure of life on this new continent.

After releasing two singles, the jaunty "One of Two" and new-no-wave classic "Molten, the Yorkshire trio Sky Larkin released an EP, Swit Swoo featuring covers of songs by Travis Morrison, Patti Smith, Queens of the Stone Age and Jake Thackray in the spring of 2008. In May of the same year the band recorded their debut album in Seattle, WA. 1996’s 12 Golden Country Greats is the Pennsylvania duo’s 5th full-length but the first to stick to just one style which was, surprisingly enough, country music. That said, the title of the album is only half-correct as there’s actually only 10 songs here. Featuring some of Nashville’s greatest session musicians (including "Pig" Robbins, Charlie McCoy, and the Jordanaires), this is one of Ween’s finest records to date, with that classic Ween sense of humor filtered through a distinct countrypolitan sound.

A Christmas Gift for You originally had the misfortune of being released on November 22, 1963, the same day as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and was not a major commercial success. In the years since, however, it has been embraced as a beloved pop-culture touchstone, with many of its tracks becoming holiday airplay favorites. In 2003, A Christmas Gift for You was ranked Number 142 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Longtime Spector fan Brian Wilson has named it as his all-time favorite LP. The album’s influence has also been reflected in cover versions by contemporary artists. Bruce Springsteen based his interpretation of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” on the Crystals’ Spectorized version, while U2 closely followed Darlene Love’s original when covering “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).”

These two virtuoso guitarists were coming from different musical worlds when they came together for this unique 1972 project. What they shared, besides the instrument they'd mastered, was profound spirituality; both had taken inspiration from the music of John Coltrane. The core of Love Devotion Surrender is made up of the three magnificent extended guitar jams including Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" which borders on spiritual ecstasy. Otis Spann was the leading postwar blues piano player in Chicago. An indispensable member of the Muddy Waters Blues Band, Spann's magnificent rich, frosty voice and his expressive singing style were confined to a handful of gigs and occasional recording projects.

The Blues Is Where It's At was recorded in 1966 at the end of a gig by the Muddy Waters Band in New York City. The band, which backs Spann here, includes Muddy Waters, Sammy Lawhorn and Luther Johnson on guitars and the amazing George "Harmonica" Smith. Word had spread about the record date and an impromptu audience of friends and fans showed up, providing an unintended studio audience. Their presence keeps the band raw and relaxed. Musically, the results sound like a great third set at a club instead of a studio recording. Spann's singing was at its peak and his piano playing is pure blues.

How did the Cars move beyond their smash 1978 debut (also available on Mobile Fidelity 180-gram LP) and secure their status as one of music’s leading bands for years to come? With rare exception, few new-wave artists enjoyed much of a career outside of a one-hit wonder. Candy-O proves the Cars were anything but. Largely written on tour in hotel rooms and on the bus, Elvis Costello’s Armed Forces takes personal politics to a new level. A supremely melodic and hook-laden record, the 1979 set is a showcase of scintillating keyboard lines, sharp guitar work, and the most cohesive arrangements of Costello and the Attractions’ career. While less musically intense than the preceding This Year’s Model, Armed Forces doesn’t let up in the lyric department. Costello’s narratives are loaded with paranoia, irony, bitterness, and scathing humor. Originally titled Emotional Fascism, the singer’s third consecutive masterpiece is inspired by billboard sign slogans, insular observations, and social behavior that Costello found applicable to his own situation. “Oliver’s Army,” “Green Shirt,” and “Senior Service” address systemic governmental control. “Big Boys,” “Two Little Hitlers,” and “Accidents Will Happen” also concern control and betrayal—but that of the interpersonal nature.

Given the luxury of six weeks in the studio, Costello and the Attractions responded with spacious arrangements and a few extra touches and instrumental colors that add to the songs’ charm. Steve Nieve employs a monophonic Minimoog keyboard and pianos patterned after Abba’s sweet pop; whispers are exaggerated into black comedy shouts on “Goon Squad”; layered and echoed vocals provide the illusion of several Costello voices on multiple tracks. The band is of a piece, constantly in harmony and on the same page.

The first record he made with his legendary backing band the Attractions, This Year’s Model is Elvis Costello’s most explosive and urgent album.
