A musical love letter from Southern California, That Lucky Old Sun continues the awe-inspiring concept album journey that Brian Wilson first began with The Beach Boys’ 1966 classic, Pet Sounds and has continued to evolve during his solo career, highlighted by his 2004 critically-acclaimed Brian Wilson Presents Smile. The four transitional narratives, co-written with Van Dyke Parks and spoken by Wilson, offer cameos on life and the heartbeat of Los Angeles which propels the album’s musical story.
That Lucky Old Sun is an autobiographical, intimate, personal and emotional work from a living legend who is widely recognized as one of the world’s greatest composers and musicians. Produced by Brian Wilson and recorded in the Capitol Records studios where he first recorded in 1962. Available here on Limited Edition, Collector’s 180g Gatefold LP.

Love Must Be Tough Eleanor McEvoy $34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Import - Sealed
In a direction first hinted at on Early Hours, Eleanor McEvoy's 7th album, Love Must Be Tough adds in an entirely new twist. With a supporting cast of Ireland’s finest musicians in the form of the South King Street Band, Eleanor takes a retro ride back to the late '50s/early '60s birth of rock & roll replete with ragtime jazz trumpets, trombones and saxophones. Originally conceived as a covers album based on the theme of hitting 40 and mid life crisis, Love Must Tough has emerged as a hybrid; mainly covers/interpretations, but mixed with an original and a handful of co-written numbers.
The album opens with a quirky almost bossa nova version of the 1965 Jagger/Richards penned "Mother’s Little Helper," the line ‘what a drag it is getting old’ setting the scene for the whole set. It’s followed by the title track co-written with Johnny Rivers, a track as good as anything Eleanor’s ever done. Not far behind is "Old New Borrowed And Blue," one of two tracks co-written with The Beautiful South’s Dave Rotheray.
Love Must Be Tough is a bold break from the approach of Out There, but while exploring old ground with a fresh slant it nevertheless remains an album that has all the hallmarks we’ve come to expect from Eleanor; great songs, fantastic production and, of course, Eleanor’s wonderful vocals.
Track Listing:
1. Mother's Little Helper (Jagger/Richards)
2. Love Must Be Tough (E. McEvoy/Johnny Rivers)

She & Him is a story of musical serendipity: two artists, each renowned in their own creative fields, meet and recognize a certain shared nostalgia. The result is destined to be one of the musical highlights of the year.
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward first met to record a version of Richard and Linda Thompson’s “When I Get To The Border” for a movie soundtrack. Immediately struck by one another’s talents and finding an instant rapport Zooey let slip that she wrote her own songs which she recorded alone at home on her computer. Somewhat shy about anyone hearing these musical morsels she eventually sent the demos to Ward who was instantly impressed. They soon reconvened at his Portland studio to begin work.
Embracing the warm sound of early analog recordings, Volume One is more than just a showcase for Zooey’s rich and endearing voice; it’s a distinctive and endlessly charming album. The songs themselves give a respectful nod to the likes of Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt and The Zombies while Ward's production gives them just the right amount of golden era sheen. Whether Zooey’s channeling Ronnie Spector as on “I Was Made For You” or joining Ward in turning The Beatles “I Should Have Known Better” into a seductive hula guitar duet, the results are always captivating.

PRE-ORDER
A masterpiece in psychedelic soul from The Temptations and perhaps the most perfectly realized album from their years working with Norman Whitfield! The set's awash in that bottom-heavy, rumbling funk mode that Whitfield brought to the group at the end of the 60s, served up in bold tracks that push the group's vocals to a whole new level, and which bring in a more righteous sound than anyone might have expected previously from Motown! The centerpiece here is the amazing "Runaway Child," a really extended number that has all the political soul of a Curtis Mayfield tune. Other titles include "Cloud Nine," "Don't Let Him Take Your Love From Me," "Love Is A Hurtin Thing," "I Gotta Find A Way," "I Need Your Lovin" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine."

Life's Too Good Sugarcubes $35.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed - 45 RPM Import LP
Rare is the debut that displays such fully realized talent as Iceland's Sugarcubes' first release, Life's Too Good. Highlighted by the Cocteau Twins-influenced single "Birthday," the provocative singles, "Deus" and "Coldsweat" and by the incredible vocal gymnastics of Björk, Life's Too Good brilliantly shows a new band staking out new sonic territory. Einar Orn contributes an electronically reprocessed trumpet, and a few unwieldly charming and ranting vocals as well, but this is clearly Björk's show.
For all the audiophiles out there One Little Indian is reissuing 38 classic albums using the newest technology in vinyl manufacturing - Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering. The Band's 1968 debut, Music From Big Pink was released at the height of the psychedelic revolution and its earthy and more roots oriented sound turned the music world on its ear. Considered to be the group's most democratic effort before Robbie Robertson would emerge as the ensemble's leader, the 11 song set features songs from Robertson, bassist Rick Danko, pianist Richard Manuel and Bob Dylan. The album is arguably the purest distillation of the Band and in many ways, their preeminent recording. Music From Big Pink's rustic beauty and fresh blend of country, rock, folk and classical R&B made it an instant homespun classic and a crowning achievement. Includes one of the Band's best known originals in "The Weight."

The Band The Band $20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
The Band's 1979 eponymous release is in many ways more deliberate and even more accomplished than their debut, partially due to the fact that guitarist Robbie Robertson had taken over the songwriting, writing or co-writing all 12 songs. The album effectively mixes the kind of mournful songs like "Whispering Pines" and "When You Awake," that had dominated Music from Big Pink, with rollicking uptempo numbers like "Rag Mama Rag" and "Up on Cripple Creek." Again, the groups' overall sound stands out the most, with their timeless arrangements and expressive singing from Manuel, Helm and Danko. Music from Big Pink is a classic in its own right, but The Band stands as their masterpiece.

A bona-fide thrash metal masterpiece, Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? combines a punkish political awareness with a dark, threatening, typically heavy metal worldview and it remains one of the most powerful and contagious thrash records of the era. It catapulted Megadeth into the mainstream music scene and earned them worldwide attention from both critics and the heavy metal community alike. In addition to the propulsive title track, the album features the scorchers "Wake Up Dead," "Black Friday" and "My Last Words" among others.
With their fourth release, Rust In Peace, Megadeth reached musical maturity and the album showcased a much tighter sound, with Dave 'Mega Dave' Mustaine's writing style adopting a rhythmically complex progressive edge. From "Holy Wars" to "Lucretia" and "Five Magics" to "Dawn Patrol," "Hangar 18" and the title track, Rust In Peace is an aggressive affair and one of Megadeth's strongest musical efforts. The album was certified Platinum in 1994 and also received Grammy nominations in 1990 and 1991 for Best Metal Performance.

Operation Mindcrime was Queensryche's breakthrough album, garnering the band commercial and critical success. Arguably their best release, it's a complex, ambitious effort, with top-notch music and a complicated storyline that flows smoothly from start to finish. The combination of experimental, progressive music with shorter, more radio-friendly songs enabled the band to release singles from the album while keeping the story intact and the cuts "Revolution Calling," "Eyes of a Stranger" and "I Don't Believe in Love" happen to be some of the best metal songs out there.

For Your Pleasure Roxy Music $20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
On their second release, For Your Pleasure, Roxy Music began to explore a little more of the dark side of the glamorous world that had become their lyrical and musical playground. The power struggle between Brian Eno wanting to move toward texture and Brian Ferry wanting to stay in more conventional rock territory is coming to the surface here though and the record would be the last with Eno onboard. However, its those same differences that truly make it another extraordinary Roxy Music record, one that demonstrates even more clearly than the debut how avant-garde ideas can flourish in a pop setting. This is especially evident in the driving singles "Do the Strand" and "Editions of You," which pulsate with raw energy and jarring melodic structures. Roxy also illuminate the slower numbers, such as the eerie "In Every Dream Home a Heartache," with atonal, shimmering synthesizers, textures that were unexpected and innovative at the time of its release. For Your Pleasure walks a fine line between the experimental and the accessible, but unfortunately it would be the last Roxy Music record that this economy worked to perfection.

Roxy Music Roxy Music $20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Simultaneously embracing kitschy glamour and avant-pop, Roxy Music's self-titled debut shimmers with seductive style and pulsates with disturbing synthetic textures. Bryan Ferry tracks out his nightclub glamour-boy persona here and his wandering vibratos sail over Brian Eno's atonal flourishes, but what really makes Roxy Music such a confident, astonishing debut is how these primitive avant-garde tendencies are married to full-fledged songs, whether it's the free-form, structure-bending "Remake/Remodel" or the sleek glam of "Virginia Plain."

On Urban Hymns, the Verve eloquently explore the loud/soft extremes of their dynamic range, tastefully incorporating retro sensibilities with sweet-sounding hooks that yield a tranquil, pastoral beauty. From the full string section of the smash hit "Bitter Sweet Symphony" to the beautifully cool "Sonnet" and the country influenced ballad, "The Drugs Don't Work," Urban Hymns is full of sweeping, grandiose soundscapes that make for a rich album and undoubtedly the best of the band's career.

Kyuss' fourth release is entitled ...And the Circus Leaves Town, and apparently it took whatever it was that made their previous release so compelling with it. The band still opts for a bottom-heavy, filling-rattling assault, but they also try to create songs that aren't really there. By containing their thundering ambitions to more bite-size (five- to six-minute) chunks, this record constantly comes up short. Tracks like Gloria Lewis and Phototropic never seem to get started. There are still some worthy moments. One Inch Man is a heavy-boogie stomp with wah-wah guitar work from Josh Homme, and Catamaran is interesting. However, this band has proven to have a sound far too big to be contained by conventional song lengths, and it's a waste for them to try. Kyuss' music works best when it's given room to sprawl out and unfold like on the closing Spaceship Landing, the track on this album that most resembles their work on Welcome to Sky Valley. ...And the Circus Leaves Town isn't a bad record. It still bears the band's unique stamp.

The Grammy Award-winning 1997 release, Buena Vista Social Club was the biggest-selling world music album ever, with more than eight million records sold to date. The Cuban musicians from the album played a sold-out, one-night-only concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on July 1, 1998. That show became the climax of the acclaimed 1999 Wim Wenders documentary about the musicians, also called Buena Vista Social Club. Ten years later, that evening’s performance is finally being released as Buena Vista Social Club at Carnegie Hall, meticulously mixed, edited and mastered by Ry Cooder and World Circuit label head Nick Gold (who executive produced the 1997 album). It features amazing performances by the original Buena Vista Social Club musicians including Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Ruben González, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo, Cachaíto López and Guajiro Mirabal. Though all of these musicians subsequently went on to resurrect great solo careers, the intervening years have brought the loss of Ferrer, Segundo, and González. Buena Vista Social Club at Carnegie Hall is only the second release for the original members, whose legendary studio album became a phenomenon all over the world. This Double 180g Vinyl Version comes in Tri-fold double sleeve packaging with a gatefold Ivy Hill baby jacket that includes a bonus CD.
“The concert was more than a musical occasion. Musicians from Cuba in their 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, some emerging from retirement, were making their United States debuts at no less than Carnegie Hall. With the bittersweet delicacy of a classic bolero, the Buena Vista Social Club simultaneously celebrated the vitality and virtuosity of its musicians and mourned the era they embody.” - The New York Times

Viva is the second release from Klaus Dinger's post-Neu! group, La Dusseldorf. Originally released in 1978, Viva is a stunning combination of washed out synthesizers, swirling guitar work and Dinger's trademark motorik rhythms. Featuring the classic "Cha, Cha 2000," Viva is another fine effort from one of Krautrock's legends and stands as a testament of just how gloriously ahead of their time the German progressive rock scene of the '70s really was. An essential record.

The City’s Greatest Living Ambassador Fuses Blues, Funk and Soul on a Pointed and Poignant Love Letter to Post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans!
On the City That Care Forgot, Dr. John delivers an elegantly elegiac homage to his drowned hometown that's at once an incredible collection of songs, possibly his best work of the past two decades, and a bold statement and cultural event. Musically anchored with that legendary gravely drawl and a buoyant riot of swamp-voodoo piano grooves (and aid from a few friends like Eric Clapton) the album's 13 tracks also provide a lyrical reminder that the rawness and divisions exposed by Hurricane Katrina are as fresh as ever. Infused with elements of barrelhouse funk and freewheeling proto-rock, at times Dr. John raises as much hell as he does questions. But his hopeful, if harrowing, songwriting never loses the notion that once we start to address our problems we can heal as a nation. The songs, at a time when the word "change" seems to be everybody's buzzword, are at once a musical return to roots, yet suffused with an unusual urgency. On the loping, blues-inflected "Time For A Change," Dr. John conjures what could be considered the "What's Going On" for a younger generation, as he manages to provide a rollicking good time while holding forth on such issues as the war in Iraq and the current administration. In contrast, the stirring title track is a simple and life-affirming requiem for the victims of Katrina, leading off an album that stands as a sad, searing, sacrilegious and ultimately auspicious statement that promises to stand as one of the most compelling and enduring musical statements of this complex era. Double 180g Vinyl LP in a 350g gloss gatefold sleeve.
“The music is a perfect blend of poignancy and Big Easy boogie, which could be overlooked against the eloquently hardhitting lyrical barrage, but on the likes of the haunted Dream Warrior the aural gumbo is as sublime and vibrant a distillation of the classic New Orleans sound as the Doc’s ever mustered.” - Record Collector “Album Of The Month” August 2008

Marty Paich, known respectfully as “the man who put the Pro in Progressive,” is no stranger to the sound, feel and appeal of swinging sounds good enough to be considered collector’s items. An early admirer and student of the great Jimmie Lunceford sound, Paich spent the major part of his young manhood studying the musical sounds and techniques of Stravinsky and Bartok plus the great and minor works of master Brahms, Beethoven, Bach and Mozart. Still not content with his grounding, Paich followed that by capturing a Master of Music Degree in Composition from the famed Los Angeles Conservatory of Music. He has since arranged for nearly every name group and band in the land.
I Get A Boot Out Of You was Marty Paich’s first album for Warner Brothers Records originally released in 1959 and it features none other than Art Pepper, Jack Sheldon, Conte Candoli, Bill Perkins, Vintor Feldman and Russ Freeman. Remastered from the original analog master tapes, at Acoustech Mastering by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman. The previous reissue by the Discovery label in the ‘80s did not use the original master tapes. Pressed on 180g HQ Vinyl At RTI.

Eminem's masterful second record has the chops and the credentials to go along with it. The Marshall Mathers LP won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, "The Real Slim Shady" won the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance and the record was also nominated for the Grammy for Album Of The Year. Expanding upon his debut, Eminem's follow-up is both funnier and darker than his debut and the production is nearly as evocative as the raps, with liquid basslines, stuttering rhythms, slight sound effects and spacious soundscapes. Reissued here on Double Vinyl LP by Universal Records.

Craig Brewer's film, Blake Snake Moan is a darkly modern tale of love, betrayal, sex and salvation set in the Deep South starring Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Justin Timberlake and E-40. The film is the second feature by writer-director Craig Brewer, whose first film Hustle & Flow won an Academy Award for Best Song and the 2005 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.
As Hustle & Flow depicted the underground world of Dirty South rap, Black Snake Moan, which was filmed in Memphis, Tennessee and surrounding environments, employs as a setting for the contemporary North Mississippi hill country music scene, revealing its sound through purveyors like the North Mississippi Allstars, R.L. Burnside and Jessie Mae Hemphill. The film and soundtrack also feature the artists The Black Keys, John Doe and Samuel L. Jackson himself, making his musical debut singing and playing guitar. Here on 180g Vinyl LP.

How did two Mexican-born heavy-metal enthusiasts end up at the top of the Irish charts? The story begins back in their homeland, where Rodrigo Sanchez (lead guitar) and Gabriela Quintero (rhythm and guitar-top hand percussion) met as teenagers. Following years of fruitless struggling, they settled in Dublin, working as street entertainers, eventually wandering as far afield as Denmark and Spain. Over time, their virtuoso duo-guitar instrumentals garnered them a following, which in turn led to more engagements. Their eruptive mixture of Central and South American folkways, with its propulsive rock rhythms, plus grooves reminiscent of The Gipsy Kings' crowd-pleasing Catalan rumbas, is incredibly infectious. Their spot-on covers of "Stairway To Heaven" and "Orion" may goad some listeners into purchasing the album, but believe it or not, the original tunes are even more mesmerizing. "Ixapa," in which the pair are joined by noted Hungarian Roma (Gypsy) fiddler Roby Lakatos, has a wicked, pan-European swing, while the impossibly fleet "Juan Loco" should delight all comers. Produced by John Leckie (Radiohead, The Stone Roses, Muse).
