Brain Salad Surgery Emerson, Lake And Palmer $24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Reissue - Sealed
Brain Salad Surgery is without a doubt Emerson, Lake and Palmer's masterpiece. The trio's fourth studio album was originally released in 1973 and made it to #2 in the U.K. and #11 in the U.S. The album boasted some of ELP's most popular compositions including the ballad "Still...You Turn Me On," the spellbinding "Jerusalem" and the epochal "Karn Evil 9." Add to that a sleeve design that regularly tops artwork polls, a though-provoking title and Brain Salad Surgery remains one of the most effectively packaged, performed and produced records of all time.
Shout! Factory is proud to reissue it in a deluxe new version as part of the Emerson, Lake & Palmer Remasters series, finally giving this classic album its due in the digital era. Housed in a replica of the original LP packaging, including deluxe fold-out sleeve and die-cut mini-poster. Also includes a 24-page booklet featuring rare photos and a detailed essay by music journalist Dave Thompson. Completely remasterd from the analog tapes and featuring two new bonus tracks.

An abridged version of the career of the rock group Kansas reads rather like an American music fairy tale. In 1973 the band sent out a handful of demo tapes to various recording companies, one of which landed on Don Kirshner's desk in New York. As luck had it, Kirshner was just building up his new label, and after he had satisfied himself that the group was pretty impressive when performing live, he offered them a contract. This was the end of Kansas as a supporting band, but also the beginning of pressure and stress to satisfy their success-hungry benefactor with a chart-topping hit. Their fourth album, with its eternally popular "Carry On Wayward Son," brought the eagerly awaited breakthrough. Leftoverture, named after the snippets (or left-overs) of unused melodies which were then worked on and expanded into the title "Magnum Opus," went platinum four times over and is one of the most successful progressive rock recordings ever. Kansas fans who only have a worn in original LP from the '70s will certainly welcome this opportunity to get a top-quality replacement.

After numerous line-up changes and independent releases, the Lemonheads signed to Atlantic Records for their 1990 release Lovey. It was with that record that Evan Dando began to move from Replacements style punk-pop into more gentle and jangly territory, and it’s here, on It’s A Shame About Ray, that he perfected his vision and launched the Lemonheads into international stardom. It’s A Shame About Ray is one of the hookiest and catchiest records of the alternative era and it has remained a true classic across all genres.

Mr. Bungle Mr. Bungle $16.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Mr. Bungle’s self-titled debut for Warner Bros., originally released in 1991, is one of the most difficult major label “rock” records of all time. Led by Mike Patton and with Downtown New York legend John Zorn as producer, Mr. Bungle is a twisted and schizophrenic ride through genres from metal to klezmer, all punctuated by Patton’s brutal, filthy and often hilarious lyrics. Faith No More may have seen greater success but there’s no doubt that Mr. Bungle was the better representation of Mike Patton’s artistic vision. Brutal and brilliant.

Recognizing that there's no such thing as bad publicity, manager-Svengali Malcolm McLaren molded the Sex Pistols into the most confrontational, nihilistic band rock & roll had ever seen. Propelled by Johnny Rotten's maniacal vocals, Steve Jones's buzz-saw guitar, and (most importantly) bass player Glen Matlock's hook-filled compositional skills, the Sex Pistols' early singles "Anarchy in the U.K." and "God Save the Queen" defined the raging style of British punk. By the time they recorded their lone 1977 album, Matlock had been bounced, replaced by the volatile Sid Vicious. Never Mind The Bollocks remains a bile-filled emblem of the times. Punk rock’s quintessential album, reissued here on 180g virgin vinyl LP.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the Sex Pistols, Public Image Ltd. was John Lydon’s (aka Johnny Rotten) debut performance with a band credited as the forbearers of post-punk. The original PIL lineup (featuring ex-Clash guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble and drummer Jim Walker) broke through conventional punk and rock sounds to create a simmering fury of noise. With musings on life, death, religion and doom, Lydon laid the groundwork for many artists to come. Now 30 years after it’s original release PIL’s raucous debut album is available once again the way it was meant to be heard, on 180g Vinyl LP.

In a Silent Way Miles Davis $18.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Miles Davis' famous mid-1960s quintet, featuring saxophonist Wayne Shorter and pianist Herbie Hancock, was intact until just a few weeks before his new, electric ensemble recorded In a Silent Way. Legendary as a kind of line in the sand release that challenged jazz fans during the ascendance of electric, psychedelic rock, In a Silent Way hinted at the repetitive polyrhythms Davis would employ throughout the early 1970s. It also partook generously of electric piano and bass and rekindled the tonal palette that Davis had explored famously with Kind of Blue. But In a Silent Way remains a clearly electric jazz record, part ambient color exploration, part rock-inflected energy and vibe, and part outright maverick creativity. Davis takes many long, breathy solos, and they glisten in a burnished blue against his new group's strange admixture of musical moods.
On In A Silent Way, Miles Davis replaced the rhythms and harmonies of bebop with a hypnotic, subliminal dance pulse and an airy, celestial drone of electric keyboards. It resulted in one of the most daringly beautiful and enduring creations of his career.

After participating in classic releases with both Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Black Sabbath n the late '70s and early '80s, it seemed that singer Ronnie James Dio could do no wrong. And with the release of his self-titled debut album, Holy Diver, in 1983, Dio struck gold once again by injecting catchy melodies into the classic metal riffery of his previous groups. Besides Dio's inspired songwriting, the album's consistency owes a lot to his carefully chosen bandmates, including veteran bassist Jimmy Bain and drummer Vinny Appice and young guitarist Vivian Campbell. The album opens in full-tilt metal mode with the frenetic "Stand Up and Shout," which segues into the epic title track, an album highlight thanks to it's hypnotic, mid-paced riff. Dio himself plays keyboards on the hit single "Rainbow in the Dark," and the remaining cuts range from further stabs at pop-metal ("Gypsy," "Caught in the Middle") to metal anthems ("Straight Through the Heart," "Invisible").

No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith is a definitive metal document and it captures Motörhead's Lemmy, Fast Eddie, and Philthy Animal Taylor in their element, live! Motorhead revisits the cream of their back catalog here, leaving their already power-packed studio counterparts in the dust in the process. With the exception of "Iron Horse/Born To Lose" which was from a 1980 show, the album was recorded at the Leeds and Newcastle shows during the Short, Sharp Pain In The Neck five-date tour in 1981. The name of the tour was a reference to the injury sustained by Philthy Animal Taylor when he was dropped on his head during some after show horseplay. Featured here are Van's wonderful re-interpretations of Muddy Waters ("I Just Want To Make Love To You"), Sonny Boy Williamson ("Help Me") and Sam Cooke ("Bring It On Home To Me") along with stunning versions of his classics "Domino" and "Into The Mystic" among others. With the release of this extraordinary debut album in July 1968, Creedence Clearwater Revival was launched upon a career that little more than a year later would lead to enormous worldwide popularity. The four-man group from San Francisco's East Bay had worked ten years as a bar band and recorded several singles on the Scorpio label (under the forgettable name Golliwogs), but it was with this Fantasy release that CCR caught fire. Lead singer/ guitarist/ writer John Fogerty emerges as a fine lyric shouter with "Ninety-Nine and a Half," "I Put A Spell On You" and "Suzie Q," a brilliant extended redition of the Dale Hawkins classic that quickly became a Top Ten Hit.

For those of you that have followed Analogue Productions for a few years, you might remember our Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk LP box sets. If you own a copy, you know how deluxe these sets are, from the detailed liner notes to the rarest photographs. And that's not even addressing the most important part, the music and sound. Both of those sets are now collector's items, with the Miles Davis long sold out and going for well over the original retail price, and only a few remaining copies of the Monk.
You can expect the same from our newest project, The Creedence Clearwater Revival Box Set, titled Absolute Originals. We've assembled CCR's seven studio albums along with indepth liners by rock critic extraordinare Ben Fong-Torres of Rolling Stone fame, and photos by Baron Wolman and Didi Zill, both of whom were there to document CCR "back in the day." There is also an essay by Steve Hoffman, who along with Kevin Gray, remastered these gems at AcousTech Mastering.
Additionally, the LP box set will include an eighth record of choice songs cut at 45 RPM. Included will be rare mixes of "Bad Moon Rising" and "Proud Mary." When these songs first came out, John Fogerty mixed them in very narrow stereo so that they'd be compatible with mono sound, which was just starting to be phased out. In 1975, they were remixed in wide stereo. Those are the mixes included on this bonus disc, and at 45 RPM, the sound is incredible.
Each box set will be numbered.
"Chad Kassem showed me the finished version of his remarkable Creedence Clearwater Revival boxed set. Absolute Originals contains vinyl remasterings of all seven Creedence albums, plus an eighth disc, cut at 45rpm, featuring five of the group's singles remixed in wide stereo. (Is that like loud TV?) I own a few test pressings from Chad's original run of individual LP reissues, and I can vouch for their superb sound and clean surfaces - but what impressed me most was the high quality of the booklet that comes with the boxed version. Whoever was the art director of that project deserves a raise, and Chad deserves thanks for creating a package that exceeds our expectations rather than just tossing off some junky scan." - Art Dudley, Stereophile, August 2004
"...The box isn't cheap, but it is a collection of classic albums - there's really not a dud in the bunch - and they have never sounded better...Finally, there's the presentation, which is first class. The full sized, full color booklet includes veteran rock writer Ben Fong-Torres's lucid liner notes, and a collection of fabulous publicity shots sumptuously presented. The last page includes Steve Hoffman's notes about the reissue production and information on the original recordings and mixes, along with tape box photos...CCR fans rejoice!" Music = 10/11 Sound = 9/11 - Michael Fremer, Musicangle.com. Read the full review.

In development since 1994, the record is rumored to be the most expensive album ever produced. Inspired by the unfettered feeling of the acoustic performances filmed during Heima, Sigur Rós adopted a looser approach in creating their fifth album Med Sud I Vid Spilum Endalaust. The album consequently is fresher and more human than anything they’ve previously recorded.
Rough edges, cracked notes, and the sound of fingers on strings are audible resulting in tracks (e.g. “Íllgresi”) that prove to be the band's sparsest and most affecting work to date. Worry not though, plenty of electric guitar can be heard throughout the album ensuring Sigur Rós’ commitment to challenging sonic limitations.
Med Sud I Vid Spilum Endalaust is truly a groundbreaking album for Sigur Rós. It’s the first time they’ve attempted to write, record, mix, release and support (by touring) an album in the same year. Notoriously known for their laborious writing/recording style and their Icelandic roots, Sigur Rós decided to record an album outside of Iceland for the first time. Recording, mixing and mastering sessions took place in such un-Reykjavik cities as New York (Sear Sound and Sterling Sound), London (Abbey Road and Assault & Battery) and Havana. The result is pretty much their “leave home” album, the anti-Heima.
The opening track, “Gobbledigook”, is a manifesto setter with its shifting/no time signature. On the last track, “All Alright,” Sigur Rós find themselves singing a song solely in English for the first time. The seventh track, “Ára Bátur,” was performed with a full orchestra and the London Oratory Boys Choir. This was recorded in one take with no overdubs and the result was 90 people playing at once and just one perfect take. This is their first album working with Flood (U2, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey) and the first since their debut to not be recorded with Ken Thomas. It was a true co-production, one that found Sigur Rós breaking out of old molds/habits. Double LP on high quality 180g vinyl.
“Sigur Rós’ fifth album is the Icelandic band’s most worldly, varied and impetuous. The band achieves a new unity in variety here, winding from near-glam romp and fireside-folk warmth to slow-climb grandeur with an attention to the repeated payoff in a sturdy hook and hum-along chorus.” (4 Stars) – Rolling Stone
“Old-fashioned psychedelic grandeur is revived with otherwordly majesty and inexorable crescendos, a typically majestic but uncharacteristically summery album, with jolts of percussive energy and connotations of sunlight and air.” - New York Times

Ween's fourth album, originally released in 1994, is perhaps their finest moment, a brilliant mix of twisted humor and pure pop genius. Ween draw influence from smooth 70s soul, psych, soft rock, spaghetti westerns, country, funk, indie-rock and more to the point where each song is a spot-on take on a different genre with their silliness being the uniting element. An outsider-pop classic.

Reprise’s restoration of the Bee Gees’ legendary late ’60s pop masterpiece is an important milestone in the ongoing restoration of the group’s celebrated catalog. Originally released as a double album in 1969, Odessa marked an early creative peak for the Brothers Gibb, and drew comparisons to the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in its depth and vision.
“Odessa’s all-embracing theme is the Bee Gees’ boundless creativity. Simple acoustic songs mix with orchestral overtures; humble tales of love and friendship sit alongside complex stories of fantasy and the forgotten. The end result is a collection that grows richer with every play.” — from new liner notes by Andrew Sandoval

The British one hit wonder who in the mid '60s topped the charts with the classic "You Were On My Mind" and then 1966's "Pied Piper," which became a global smash hit and is still remembered as one of the defining songs of an era. Many had Crispian St. Peters pegged to become the new Tom Jones, but after just a few hits he completely dropped off the radar. Besides these two songs, he is also remembered for some comments he made about being better than the Beatles, claiming at one point to have written dozens of songs, all better than anything McCartney or Lennon had ever written. An incredible retrospective on a superior quality double 180g Import LP set.

For All I Care Bad Plus $24.99

For the better part of a decade, the progressive jazz trio known as The Bad Plus have been stirring up a musical stew that defies easy description. Drawing on sources as diverse as classical, jazz, rock, pop and beyond, they have created a singular aesthetic that forces even the most skeptical listener to rethink the commonly held notions of what differentiates one style of music from another. Following the release of Prog, the trio wanted to try some new ideas and broaden their musical concept. A mix of highly familiar rock and pop pieces alongside some not-so-familiar 20th century classical compositions, For All I Care represents the band’s egalitarian approach to all forms of music, regardless of source, genre or style. The album also marks the first Bad Plus recording to include a guest vocalist as the fourth instrument in its sonic arsenal. Wendy Lewis, a longtime associate of The Plus and a fixture in the Minneapolis alt rock scene, steps in and takes the trio’s ongoing experimental ride to a new level of exploration and sophistication. But For All I Care is more than just an album pairing a singer with a backing band. The recording is inspired in part by the collaborative recording by John Coltrane and vocalist Johnny Hartman, released in 1963. “Coltrane’s quartet had already developed a group language, and then they enlisted this incredible singer without changing the language of the band,” says King. “In that same sense, this is still very much a Bad Plus record. We just happen to have a great singer singing the songs with us.”

Ready For The Flood Mark Olson & Gary Louris $24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
Although they've toured and renewed their friendship, this is the first recording by Mark Olson and Gary Louris since Olson left the Jayhawks in 1995. What would become Ready For The Flood was recorded at Sage & Sound Studios in Hollywood with friend Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes. Louris had called in Robinson, who happened to be in town at the time and he ended up producing the album and contributing harmonica and backing vocals.
Ready For The Flood captures the stripped down, fingerpicked guitar playing and Laurel Canyon sound of an earlier time, with allusions to English folk and a simpler, live recording technique. It's an album that only two career musicians and friends could make; organic, intuitive and loosely confident, heartfelt and moving.

By the time Sliding Gliding Worlds was released in 1988, the British based Ozric Tentacles had already garnered a huge cult following, climbing to fame with a series of self-produced cassette tapes. Borrowing the idea from the bands of the '60s that music is somehow related to the cosmic realm, the Ozrics became a kind of leader of a new British psychedelic movement. Strictly instrumental, but with a sense of humour, the band creates a kind of eastern twinged space rock, using keyboards and synthesizers, on the one hand, and flutes, xylophones and recorders on the other, for a kind of east meets west synthesis where bands like Gong immediately jump to mind. This Double 180g Vinyl Import Edition contains 9 bonus tracks from 1986's cassette There Is Nothing.

High-Definition Vinyl LP - Sealed
Sundazed is proud to announce the reissue of a classic soul album by one of the most respect-ed female singers of any era: Aretha Arrives by Aretha Franklin and The Queen Alone. An exact reproduction of this legendary album on audiophile 180-gram vinyl, cut directly from the original Atlantic analog masters. 1967’s Aretha Arrives, a stunning release from this Detroit-raised, gospel-influenced soul goddess, is jam-packed with Aretha strutting her stuff in front of King Curtis and the Muscle Shoals house band. She “Aretha-fies” everything here—from “Satisfaction” and “96 Tears” to the Frank Sinatra smash “That’s Life” and “Ain’t Nobody (Gonna Turn Me Around),” written by her sister, Carolyn Franklin—to create a firestorm of funky sounds that’s impossible to resist.

This delightful release from 1977 has garnered special
attention from audiophiles since its release for the sound engineered into
it by Glyn Johns and Jon Astley. Michael Fremer refers affectionately to
this title as "The Original Unplugged". Desired mint copies of British
first-pressings have become scarce and expensive. Now pressed on 180grams
and taken directly from the
original analog masters, this pairing of The Who's mastermind Pete Townshend
and the late Ronnie Lane (d. 1997) from the Small Faces, shows a new
generation why this was one of the few "summit, all-star affairs" from the
1970's that not only met but exceeded expectations. Joining the pair are
Eric Clapton on assorted guitars, The Who's John Entwistle on bass, Charlie
Watts of the Stones behind the drums and the late Ian Stewart on keyboards.
Townshend's manic power-rock side is well represented and tastefully off-set
by Lane's tender contrasts. Centered mainly around acoustic guitars, there
is some dazzling finger work from Townshend and Clapton throughout. All in
all, the set has a laid back and loose feel to it, but also one that
leaves the listener wishing for follow-ups and live "unplugged" recordings
that were to never be. Highlights include a trip to downtown London in the
string-laden "Street In The City", the energetic "My Baby Gives It Away" and
"Heat To Hang Onto" and even some country in 'Till The Rivers All Run Dry".
Two of Lane's finest efforts round it out in "Annie" and "April Fool", the
later with Clapton's blues runs the perfect compliment. Other songs include
"Nowhere To Run", "Keep Me Turning", "Catmelody" and the title track. A
minor classic from the 1970's. Original MCA and Polydor pressings were
mastered by Doug Sax and used as references for the remastering by Bernie
Grundman. The MCA disc is dull when compared to the tape while the Polydor
pressing is more like the master. Since both were cut by Sax, who says he
cut them the same, we are left to conclude that plating and pressing (vinyl
formula) account for the majority of the differences. The Classic reissue
is more detailed and open than either the original MCA or Polydor pressings

Impulse, the new record company founded by Bob Thiele, was where Charlie Mingus made his musical home at the end of 1962. And with his very first album, entitled “The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady”, the double bass player produced a masterwork of the very highest order; this time it was his compositional talent rather than his instrument which was in the limelight. He added a good portion of rhythmic variety to the melodiousness of his ‘hero’ Duke Ellington and then added a touch of politics, for even in 1963 slavery had by no means been fully abolished in ‘American Society’! That is the explanation for the title of the suite – a harking back to African roots, the struggle for human rights for black people on all levels of political and cultural society, and a vision of ‘Freedom Day’!Though Charlie Mariano’s tenor saxophone is spotlighted soloistically, it is really the varying timbres and changes in tempo that make all 39 minutes of this LP a sheer pleasure to listen to.
But Charlie Mingus does not demand that his public merely sit and listen to his music; he wants them to get up and dance to it. No, it’s not ballet music – more an inspiration for expressing oneself in movement.
The old Impulse pressings with their wonderful gatefold sleeves were almost always disappointing from a technical point of view because the LPs contained too much re-cycled vinyl. Now, after almost 40 years, we have the opportunity to bestow the studio technique with the recognition it deserves. This is the music that everyone always wanted to take with them on their desert island.
John Coltrane's development as an improviser accelerated in the mid-1950s when he was with Miles Davis. During six months of 1957 with Thelonious Monk in a celebrated engagement at New York's Five Spot Cafe, it went into overdrive. Coltrane said later, "Working with Monk brought me close to a musical architect of the highest order. I felt I learned from him in every way - through the senses, theoretically, technically." Because of the artists' conflicting contractual agreements, Jazzland (Riverside's sister label) was unable to capture the Monk quartet live a the Five Spot. Producer Orrin Keepnews managed to record three studio tracks that did not see the light of day until the sixties. "Ruby, My Dear," "Trinkle, Tinkle" and "Nutty" let us hear what all the excitement was about. "Off Minor" and "Epistrophy" find Monk and Coltrane in a septet that included the great Coleman Hawkins. This record also includes "Functional," an unforgettable Monk solo blues.

He is unceasingly inventive on this interesting mix of standards, pop tunes and jazz pieces and the rhythm section of Sonny Clark, Doug Watkins and Art Taylor is superb throughout. Candy is a quintissential document of the easy swing and tight ensemble work that was prominant before the onset of hard-bop and free-jazz of the '60s.
