 Pendulum
Creedence Clearwater Revival
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
After four years of nearly nonstop performing, CCR sounds as polished and tight as ever on this album. Of the two hit singles from the LP, "Hey Tonight" and "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," the latter's slower ballad format clearly suggests that band was exploring new areas of its music, including a developing emphasis on instrumentals. With this swing of the pendulum the creative tasks would in the future be shared by all members of the group. A fine and tasty offering, Pendulum is still universally acknowledged as among the greatest in the annals of rock.

Originally released on CD in 1995, Methodrone is now being reissued on vinyl for the first time via 'a records,' Anton Newcombe's own record label. Redolent with the spirit of such high priests of effects and delay as Loop, Spaceman 3, and My Bloody Valentine, not to mention a fair dollop of the Jesus and Mary Chain. Methodrone is clearly the sum of its influences and it's a stunningly beautiful and powerful collection of psychedelic rock. Pressed on 180g blue vinyl.

 Transfiguration Of Vincent
M. Ward
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
M. Ward's Transfiguration of Vincent is nothing less than spectacular. From the buoyant, late-Beatlesque "Vincent O'Brien" to the dank, shuffling, south of the border groove on "Sad, Sad Song," the troubadour manages to capture a timeless folkiness and match it with a surreal and sparkling sense of nostalgia that clearly echoes Tom Waits. Recorded with the Old Joe Clarks as the backup band, Transfiguration is rooted firmly in old-time Americana, yet M. Ward's take on country and particularly his vocals somehow fit perfectly with Giant Sand, Sparklehorse, and California's surreal, pastoral psych-pop outfit Grandaddy (whose Jason Lytle contributed some field recordings). Just check M. Ward's stunning transformation of Bowie's "Let's Dance," which proves there's some deeply buried pop beneath these honest folk tunes. Transfiguration is a quiet record and might lose some listeners in it's sleepy summer melancholy, but M. Ward is the real deal -- and he's surely worthy of heaps of attention and acclaim. ~ Charles Spano, All Music Guide

 Liebowitz-Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Power of the Orchestra, The
$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Recorded at Kingsway Hall and engineered by Kenneth Wilkinson, this record couples Moussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition with Night On Bare Mountain. It has long been considered among the greatest sounding records ever made. Perhaps most stunning about Power of the Orchestra are the effortless dynamics, which have been reviewed and raved about ever since the first RCA shaded dog. From the gentle plucks of strings to the explosion of a full orchestra without a bit of notice. It's heart-stopping, jump-out-of-your-seat-type dynamics.
The Power of the Orchestra, a more appropriate title there never was. Now on 180g 45 RPM! This thing's got all the weight of an anchor but at the same time the clarity and airiness and sparkle of a feather. Nuance, a holographic soundstage, emotion to spare, this one's got it all. A true reference. Power, indeed!

 North Hills
Dawes
$20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
As you begin to listen to Dawes' debut album and especially songs like the bittersweet "That Western Skyline" and the patient "Love Is All I Am," you start to realize that this band isn't interested in the bells and whistles. The Los Angeles quartet, Taylor Goldsmith (vocals, guitar), Griffin Goldsmith (drums, vocals), Wylie Gelber (bass) and Tay Strathairn (piano, vocals) seem to get all their musicianship and expression across through the inherent nature of the instruments. They seem to have their utmost respect for the song itself, only stepping out when a song calls for it, relying on the other to keep the holes filled and the ship sailing smoothly, letting the music reflect their own personal relationships to the listener.
Recorded live to tape (all analog) at Canyonsound Studio in Laurel Canyon, CA. Produced by Jonathan Wilson (Elvis Costello, Johnathan Rice, Jenny Lewis) and mastered by Rob Fraboni (Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton) at Effortless Mastering in Weston, CT.

 Threadbare
Port O'Brien
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Port O'Brien began as the bedroom recording project of Van Pierszalowski and Cambria Goodwin. As the songs grew legs and spread among friends, live performances became inevitable. Sprouting from the isolated coastal village of Cambria, CA, the band collected kindred spirits along the way and blossomed into a full band. The band released All We Could Do Was Sing in the summer of 2008 which captured the life Van and Cambria lived throughout their never-ending summers in Alaska. Van is a commercial fisherman, spending every summer on his father's fishing boat off the coast of Kodiak Island. Cambria is the head baker at the cannery in Larson Bay, supplying pastries, breads, and deserts for the entire seasonal fishing community. They're seasonal lives changed with the release of their first album however and their inspirations shifted from the desolation of Alaska to the experience of seeing the world.
As 2009 began, the band started to prepare songs for what was to become Threadbare. What started as a light-hearted and loose effort quickly turned into a dense, introspective work following the tragic loss of Cambria's younger brother. Recording in friend Jason Quever's living room studio in San Francisco, the songs were given a certain warmth and intimacy that couldn't be achieved in a larger space. The sense of comfort they found gave them the ability to fully realize the weight of the songs. "In the Meantime" explores the desire for contentment in tumultuous times. "High Without Hope" bookends the album, illuminating the emotion and sense of loss that was felt throughout the recording process.
"Port O'Brien crafts beautiful, melodic tuens that utilize string instruments to their fullest. And the group is not afraid to rock out." - Billboard

The 1965 album Today! was the Beach Boys' eighth studio album and the first of three to be released that year. The album marked a major turning point for the band, and especially the exhausted Brian Wilson. Aside from their opus Pet Sounds, Today! is the Beach Boys' most highly acclaimed release.

The majority of Aladdin Sane, the follow-up to David Bowie's breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, was culled from his 1972 U.S. tour and it finds Bowie still exploring science fiction styled alter-egos. In addition to the title track, "The Jean Genie" and "Drive-in Saturday," Aladdin Sane also boasts an up-tempo cover of the Rolling Stones' "Let's Spend The Night Together." Unfortunately this watershed album would also be the last to feature Bowie's tried and true backing band of Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey.

 In The Wee Small Hours
Frank Sinatra
$20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Frank Sinatra's 1955 Nelson Riddle arranged In the Wee Small Hours features a fine collection of ballads specially recorded for this particular release. Sinatra perfected the concept album with the set as previous 10" records had generally contained selections of performer's random hits not tied together by anything other than the artist performing them. The cover which features a solemn, pensive Sinatra against a nighttime street setting, reinforces the theme of the ballad-ridden affair.

$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Originally released on the Beserkley label in 1976 (though most of the material was recorded in 1973), The Modern Lovers is a universally accepted proto-punk classic. It's an album that bridges the gap between The Velvet Underground, a band whom leader Jonathan Richman was obsessed with, and the first wave of punk rock. While also displaying the goofy wit that would later be Richman's signature, The Modern Lovers is equal parts geeky, emotional, angst driven, life affirming, and, from start to finish, absolutely brilliant.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

|
Seminal alternative country-rock group Uncle Tupelo was formed in the Midwestern backwater of Belleville, Illinois, by high school friends Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy, and Mike Heldorn. Their marriage of punk rock animus with the simplicity of American roots music ignited a major movement heralding rock's return to traditional country origins. Heldorn had departed, Ken Coomer signed on, and in 1993 the band released one final album, Anodyne, widely considered their definitive work. Recorded live in an Austin studio, the album reinterprets country, rock, and folk idioms with the compelling vision that was Tupelo's own. After parting ways, members went on to found Wilco and Son Volt, but the brief and shining moment that was Uncle Tupelo will forever cast a long shadow on American roots rock.

Nowadays the Small Faces are criminally overlooked and often thought of as only the preamble to the Faces and, of course, Rod Stewart. At the time of their debut's original release back in 1966 however, they were one of the absolute greatest rock bands in the UK, with the Who and Rolling Stones being their only real competition. And lead vocalist Steve Marriott could sing circles around both Jagger and Daltrey. Reissued here in all its soul-influenced garage-rock glory is the Small Faces masterful debut.

Originally released in 1964 this is the debut album from Greenwich Village's strangest folk revivalists. In the words of Peter Stampfel "The Rounders were the first really bent traditional band. And the first traditionally based band that was not trying to sound like an old record". And thank God for that. Remastered from the original tapes, the debut from the '60s folk revival biggest outcasts. Classic.

Formed in 1930 as a trio of guitar and fiddle music, the original lineup was composed of Lonnie, Sam and Armenter Chatmon, the latter best known as Bo Carter, who was also a solo star of the period. The Mississippi Sheiks took their name from Rudolph Valentino's movie The Sheik and became extremely popular in the 1930s despite the fact that the famous country music artists of the day were almost all solo artists. Their first single, "Sittin' On Top of The World," was also their biggest success. It went on to become a standard country blues song covered by many artists of the caliber of Frank Sinatra, Harry Belafonte, Bob Dylan and Cream.

 Manassas
Stephen Stills
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
Between 1970 and 1972, Stephen Stills was busy playing with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and working on a series of solo albums. In addition to all this activity he led the super group that appears on this stunning release. Manassas finds Stills and company (Chris Hillman, Dallas Taylor and Al Perkins among others) at the intersection of rock, folk, country and blues. Distinctive styles are noticeable song by song, yet it is the strength and credibility of the mixture that makes Manassas such a great overall experience. The first fourth of the album focuses on '60s rock with Afro-Cuban overtones, followed by a batch of country and bluegrass-oriented material. The folk-rock track "It Doesn't Matter" kicks off the third section and the final section wraps the set up with the rootsy groove of "Blues Man," a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Manassas is a rich and varied collection that is as sophisticated and complex as it is earthy and easy to listen to.

Kraftwerk are unique, pristine, profound and beautiful. Decades may pass, but their streamlined synthetic symphonies stand outside time, as fresh as tomorrow, transcendent and sublime.
Though they'd recorded three previous albums, Kraftwerk's modern pop legacy starts with this impressionistic excursion down Germany's famed superhighway. The rhythmic synth pulse that carries the title track is a sonic revelation while co-founder Florian Schneider's flute work and other more delicate melodic touches hearken back to the band's prog-rock foundations as do the atmospheric "Kometenmelodie 1 & 2," "Mitternacht" and "Morgenspaziergang."

Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970
Leonard Cohen
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Leonard Cohen Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 is a fascinating and timely portrait of the artist as a young man, just three years into his recording career (though he was already a published poet and novelist for 15 years). As he mesmerizes the Isle Of Wight audience, Cohen intersperses a baker's dozen songs with tales both real and apocryphal, as well as a handful of his poems.
This double 180g vinyl LP edition of Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 represents the 77-minute concert set as performed by Cohen and his backup band: Bob Johnston (Cohen's Nashville-based Columbia A&R staff producer), and Nashville musicians Charlie Daniels (electric bass, fiddle), Ron Cornelius (lead guitar), and Elkin 'Bubba' Fowler (bass, banjo). They were joined by backup singers Corlynn Hanney, Susan Musmanno, and Donna Washburn. During the course of their European tour, which Cohen only agreed to undertake if Johnston (producer of Cohen's most recent LP, Songs From A Room) would manage him and organize the band, the group began to call themselves The Army, owing to the battles they were subjected to by audiences on the road.
All but three of the songs on Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 originated on Cohen's first two LPs, his debut Songs Of Leonard Cohen from 1967 ("So Long, Marianne," "One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong," "The Stranger Song," "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye," "Suzanne"); and Songs From A Room from 1969 ("Bird On The Wire," "You Know Who I Am," "Tonight Will Be Fine," "The Partisan," "Seems So Long Ago, Nancy"). The three other songs "Diamonds In The Mine," "Sing Another Song Boys," and "Famous Blue Raincoat" were destined for Cohen's third album, 1971's Songs of Love and Hate.

Toronto group Little Girls (aka Josh McIntyre and Co.) announce their proper album debut, Concepts. The album's 11 tracks span from the very first Little Girls track ever written to brand new material. Concepts was recorded only at night in a home studio with most of the songs contributing to an ongoing theme of growing up.
It all started when McIntyre recorded a few songs in his home studio as a side project in early 2009. Seeking the unbiased opinions from friends and musical peers he anonymously posted the music on the internet under the name Little Girls, a name he believed least likely to reveal his identity. His influences come from the '80s no-wave post-punk scene, and the early '80s golden era of hip-hop. Equally influential are the late hip-hop artist J. Dilla, as well as Can, Joy Division, Wire and The Clean.
Being huge fans of vinyl music, Paper Bag Records takes great pride in creating the sort of offerings that fellow vinyl fans will appreciate as a proper addition to their collections. All PBR vinyl releases are numbered pieces produced in limited quantities, and feature unique silk screened covers and additional artwork.

 Midnight Soul Serenade
Heavy Trash
$17.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
On their third full-length record, Midnight Soul Serenade, American rock’n’roll revolutionaries Heavy Trash (Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray) continue their journey, delivering a stunning portrait of love and devotion gone good, gone wrong, and just plain gone.
Recorded at NY HED Studios in the Lower East Side and Toe Rag in London, Mssrs. Spencer and Verta-Ray are joined by an all-star team featuring New York roots-rock champion Simon Chardiet (Simon & the Bar Sinisters, James Chance, Joey Miserable & the Worms, Bo Diddley) on double bass, Sam Baker (Lambchop) on drums, and numerous guests, including Danish rockers PowerSolo, piano ace Mickey Finn (who has also held down that job for Motown legends The Miracles and Barrett Strong), Daniel Collas (The Phenomenal Handclap Band) on organ, and Tennessee sweethearts Those Darlins. Additional mixing was done with Scott Harding (New Kingdom) and Alap Momin (Dalek).
From the brooding promise of “Good Man” to the subtle brutality of “(You’ve Got to Be) Gentle,” the outer-space terror of “Isolation,” and the lysergic balladry of “That’s What Your Love Gets,” this is the sound of two men, souls stripped bare.
Midnight Soul Serenade is a slightly darker, barrel-fermented, and brilliantly matured dose of Heavy Trash. On every track Verta-Ray’s guitars pulsate, ooze, and percolate, while Spencer croons and twangs, shakes and shudders, with raw power and passion. There are more switch-blade riffs, crazy rhythms, sexual tension, and mind-blowing moments of palpable release on this record than ever before.
Track Listing:
1. Gee, I Really Love You mp3
2. Good Man
3. Bumble Bee
4. The Pill
5. Pimento
6. (Sometimes You Got to Be) Gentle
7. Isolation

1975 was a magical year for Jeff Beck. Already a rock superstar from his ground breaking guitar work with The Yardbirds, Jeff Beck Group and Beck Bogert and Appice, Beck’s Blow By Blow was a total artistic leap into new musical territory which netted the guitar hero massive acclaim.
Produced by the legendary George Martin, Blow By Blow features nine smokin’ tracks of instrumental genius as only Jeff Beck could provide. Smokin’ originals like "You Know What I Mean," "Air Blower" and "Scatterbrain" have all become standards in the rock/jazz fusion world, as his beautiful cover of Steve Wonder’s "Cause We’ve Ended Now As Lovers" illustrates even further the depth, technique and originality of Jeff Beck’s guitar artistry.
With stellar musicians like Max Middleton (keyboards), Phil Chenn (bass), and Richard Bailey (drums/percussion), plus beautiful string arrangements by George Martin, Beck and Co. truly delivered a historic masterpiece with this classic album.
Friday Music proudly releases Jeff Beck’s Blow By Blow for the first time on 180g Audiophile Vinyl. Reissue produced from the original Epic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso and pressed at RTI with Sony Music, this limited edition album will be one of the most important audiophile events of this year.

Coquelicot Asleep In The Poppies: A Variety Of Whimsical Verse
Of Montreal
$18.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPS Sealed
|
Of Montreal's fourth album, was released in 2001 and quickly went out of print due to its extravagant and expensive packaging. Polyvinyl is now bringing it back in all its glory, with all 22 tracks and the entire booklet of original paintings. It's the band's most ambitious album with songs of wonderful madness featuring strange musical interludes, a detective story, gentle love songs, avant pop songs, and ending with an 18-minute piano opus.
The songs on Coquelicot, though crammed full of saccharine pop hooks, display a level of complex structuring and arrangement that could put most pop records to shame. - Pitchfork

African American singer and guitar player who got his start playing on the streets of Memphis around the turn of the century. His enormous repertoire of early folk, blues, old time country and popular music, along with his influence on local musicians has made many point to him as the true father of Memphis blues. He began touring the South with a black face Medicine Show comedian in the 1910s where it is said he met and influenced Jimmie Rodgers, among others. He then moved to Tennessee where he began playing with musician Dan Sane with whom he made his first recordings as the Beale Street Sheiks for Paramount in 1927. Throughout this period Stokes recorded a number of sides for Paramount and Victor until his old time style began to lose popularity with the record buying public.

 Court and Spark
Joni Mitchell
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
PRE-ORDER

Court And Spark completed Joni Mitchell's transition from folk-singer to sophisticated rock auteur. In addition to her meticulously crafted melodies and evocative, image-rich lyrics, the songs here are breezy and immediately appealing. This is in part due to Tom Scott's L.A. Express, a sinuous jazz-based combo, but also to Mitchell's knack for pop hooks. The album's accessibility made it Mitchell's most commercially successful, yet the personal intensity and insight of her songwriting never wavers. Court And Spark confirmed her standing as one of the most important and subtle talents of the rock era.
