 Jurassic Shift
Ozric Tentacles
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - Sealed
|
Originally released on the Ozric Tentacles own Dovetail label in 1993, it marked perhaps the height of their mainstream popularity, reaching #11 on the U.K. album charts. The Ozrics, of course, continued to march to their own beat, creating dazzlingly complex soundscapes that continued to defy classification. Swooping guitars, incisive percussion, carpets of synth, they have been called space rock, progressive, likened to early Gong, but truly, one would be hard pressed to find another band that fully occupies their universe.

2. Stretchy
3. Feng Shui
4. Half Light in Thillai

The Blues Is Where It's At
Otis Spann

|
Otis Spann was the leading postwar blues piano player in Chicago. An indispensable member of the Muddy Waters Blues Band, Spann's magnificent rich, frosty voice and his expressive singing style were confined to a handful of gigs and occasional recording projects.
The Blues Is Where It's At was recorded in 1966 at the end of a gig by the Muddy Waters Band in New York City. The band, which backs Spann here, includes Muddy Waters, Sammy Lawhorn and Luther Johnson on guitars and the amazing George "Harmonica" Smith. Word had spread about the record date and an impromptu audience of friends and fans showed up, providing an unintended studio audience. Their presence keeps the band raw and relaxed. Musically, the results sound like a great third set at a club instead of a studio recording. Spann's singing was at its peak and his piano playing is pure blues.
Track Listing:
1. Popcorn Man
2. Brand New House
3. Nobody Knows Chicago Like I Do (Party Blues)
4. Steel Mill Blues
5. Down on Sarah Street
6. T'Ain't Nobody's Business If I Do
7. Chicago Blues

 The Brondesbury Road Tapes 1968
Giles, Giles and Fripp
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - Sealed
|
Before there was King Crimson, there was Giles, Giles & Fripp. Robert Fripp, before he went on to become “one of the greatest guitar players of all-time,” was just a guy with a guitar who responded to an advertisement by brothers Michael and Peter Giles looking for a singing keyboard player. Fripp was neither, but the three formed a band anyway and soon moved to Brondesbury Road, London. During this time, they recorded many demos in their flat, with a two-track Revox reel-to-reel recorder, which was modified to allow overdubs. During the 15 months in which they were together, they released one album, The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp on Decca, a mix of psychedelia and jazz with amusing lyrics. It sold fewer than 1,000 copies, and by 1968 the band was defunct. However, Michael Giles and Peter Fripp were about to more than make up for the lost record sales with their next band, King Crimson. This album, originally compiled in 2001, is taken from the miles of Brondesbury Road tape the three recorded in 1968, with some friends brought in here and there, friends like ex-Fairport Convention singer Julie Dyble and Ian McDonald. In other words, this is the chance for Crimson fans to hear where it all began. The sound is also surprisingly good, near studio quality in most cases.

 Combat Rock
The Clash

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Import - Sealed

The final album by the Clash's original Strummer/Jones incarnation is also their most inconsistent. There were musical and ideological rifts developing within the band, and it shows: the experimentation is almost as wild as Sandanista!'s (and the biggest experiment is heading away from their punk shiftiness and into a commercial rock sound), but they seem to be enjoying it less. The band's stabs at funk and poetry aren't terribly successful, but it all came together for two massive hits: "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" has the biggest, stupidest, most perfect riff this side of "Louie Louie," and "Rock the Casbah" pulls the band's politics, fine-honed sarcasm, and saw-toothed guitar sound into the service of a dance-floor beat.

 Power Of The Lion
The Iceburn Collective
$18.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LPs - 2 LPs Sealed
|
The Iceburn Collective was a musical group formed in 1991 in Salt Lake City, Utah, by guitarist/vocalist/composer Gentry Densley, the sole constant member through multiple personnel changes. They were known for a unique style that combined elements of jazz, metal, punk and classical music. From 91-97 the band continually evolved and experimented with the limits of sound, releasing five full length albums and a split EP w/ Engine Kid (featuring Greg Anderson of Sunn 0))) and Ascend) for Revelation Records.
The Power Of The Lion features The Iceburn Collective using two electric guitars, two stand-up basses and drums. The seven pieces that make up the album were originally released on CD on Iceburns' own label in 1998. These seven pieces are intended not as finished goods but as components to be superimposed at will. according to a principle derived from quantum mechanics. The group experimented with the music as collage at their subsequent live dates. The Power Of The Lion is Iceburn at their most electrifying. They simultaneously fuse influences as diverse as Eric Dolphy, Drive Like Jehu, Ornette Coleman The Mahavishnu Orchestra.

3. Power Of The Lion Pt. III

It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best
Karen Dalton
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
After re-releasing vaunted folk-singer Karen Dalton's sophomore LP In My Own Time in 2006, Light In The Attic Records is proud to announce a much needed official vinyl reissue of her 1969 Capitol debut. Its So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best is a heart wrenching and bluesy introduction to the intoxicating world of Dalton and her deep well of musical secrets.
It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best spans generations of classic American songwriting (Ledbelly, Jelly Roll Morton, and Tim Hardin) and with Dalton’s unsurpassed interpretive depth and emotional range, it’s no surprise that artists from Fred Neil to Nick Cave have sung Dalton’s praises over the years. Even the likes of Bob Dylan have fallen under her spell, recalling the singer’s illuminating presence on the New York music scene during the pair’s formative Greenwich Village days: “My favorite singer in the place was Karen Dalton. She had a voice like Billie Holiday’s and played the guitar like Jimmy Reed.” But championing endorsements aside, all you have to do is drop the needle on the grooves to understand.
World weary and filled with the blues, Dalton’s tragic life story was a rocky road. While no longer with us in the physical, her growing musical presence is stronger than ever and worthy of re-examination by the converted and uninitiated alike. Selling poorly at the time of release, original vinyl copies of It’s So Hard To Tell Who’s Going To Love You The Best have all but vanished while bootleg internet rips take away all the soul. With period artwork, tip-on jacket, extensive liner notes, photos, and clear audio re-mastered from the original Capitol masters, this Light In The Attic reissue is set to become the definitive analogue version of Dalton’s stunning debut. Dim the lights and turn that stereo up, Karen Dalton will turn your living room into private concert, an intimate performance you will never forget.

1. Little Bit Of Rain

Now You Can Talk About Me
George 'Harmonica' Smith
$20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
If there is a West Coast blues harp style, then George Smith is clearly its Father. In addition, Smith was one of the most compelling blues singers of his generation. When he leaned back and started blowin' the blues, Smith created some of the most exciting music in blues history. His hard-drive, metallic-edged diatonic harmonic playing, with its frequent use of tongue-blocked octaves and a pulsing vibrato that seemed to emanate from the pit of his stomach, offered up a new sound that would influence legions of young players. This classic release combines rare sides from two '60s sessions with a great set of recordings with Rod Piazza's band from 1982.

 God Luck And Good Speed
Weedeater
$14.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Colored Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The long-awaited vinyl version of Weedeater's masterpiece of whiskey and weed-soaked doom is finally here. Fronted by famed madman and bass virtuoso "Dixie" Dave Collins, this three-piece juggernaut has been eating audiences alive for more than 10 years now. God Luck And Good Speed was Weedeater's debut full-length for Southern Lord Recordings. All but one of the songs on the album was recorded and produced by the legendary Steve Albini (Neurosis, High On Fire, Nirvana) at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago. The remaining track, "Alone," was recorded by Mike Dean (Corrosion of Conformity) and simply consists of an acoustic bass track, a band track and vocally some of Dixie's best somber and sub-baritone rasping. The mastering was executed by John Golden (Neurosis, Melvins, Pelican) and the finished product is nothing short of amazing. The sound is gigantic and both the production and recording skillfully capture the intense experience of a Weedeater show while achieving tones that will swallow you whole. This vinyl version is limited to 1,500 copies and comes pressed on 180g heavy vinyl with deluxe gatefold packaging.

 Townes
Steve Earle
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LPs - 2LPs Sealed
|
Steve Earle's new album, Townes is his highly anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning album Washington Square Serenade. The 15 song set is comprised of songs written by Earle's friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt.
The songs selected for Townes were the ones that meant the most to Earle and the ones he personally connected to. Some of the selections chosen were songs that Earle has played his entire career ("Pancho and Lefty," "Lungs," "White Freightliner Blues"). He learned the song "(Quicksilver Daydreams of) Maria" directly from Van Zandt and taught himself "Marie and Rake" specifically to include here. Earle recorded the New York sessions solo and then added the other instruments later on in order to preserve the spirit of Van Zandt's original solo performances to the best of his recollection. The track "Lungs," was produced and mixed by the Dust Brothers' John King and features Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, The Nightwatchman) on electric guitar.
"Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that." - Steve Earle

 The Shangri-Las
Shangri-Las
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 2 LPs - Sealed
|
The mid-sixties were the era of the girl group: the Supremes, the Ronettes, the Marvelettes, the Shirelles, the Shangri-Las…the girls ruled the charts like never before, but while the Supremes, dressed in shimmering evening gowns, breathlessly wooed listeners to the tune of “Baby Love”, the Shangri-Las stormed stages across the USA in tight pants and leather biker boots, singing about motorcycles and runaways. They were the voice of teens living on the margins of society…the original bad girls, and according to legend, they lived up to their status off stage as well as on. Rumours of the Shangs potty mouths, extreme pranks, drinking, drug use and gun toting, not surprisingly, soon ruffled the feathers of finger-wagging moralists on both sides of the Atlantic (who, as usual, tried to end all the fun by calling them “depraved” and getting them banned), but most teens, present and future, could not get enough! In fact, punk rockers for decades to come would cite them as a major source of inspiration.
But it was not only their bad girl image that turned these four teenagers from the wrong side of town (Cambria Heights, Queens) into major pop icons overnight, their lyrics and lyrical delivery were a work of pure genius. Their songs, produced by the legendary Shadow Morton (who, a decade later, was producing the New York Dolls), were melodramatic teen epics of love lost, social alienation, and death, a bit heavy for the pop charts, perhaps, but for two short years, from 1964 to 1966, they were the “Sophisticated Boom Boom” on your dial. Lines like, “When I say I’m in Love, you best believe I’m in love L-U-V!” and “He’s good bad, but he’s not evil” are now remembered as classic moments in pop history, and the Shangri-Las as one of the greatest girl groups of all time. This extensive retrospective brings back the essential work of these proto-riot grrrls, including all their superb hits: tunes like, “Leader Of The Pack,” “Give Him A Great Big Kiss,” “Right Now And Not Later,” “Out In The Streets” and more!

 Trinity Revisited
Cowboy Junkies
$49.99
2 180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Import - Sealed
|
Formed in Toronto by siblings Micheal, Peter and Margo Timmins, The Cowboy Junkies purvey a surreal brand of moody, slow motion country music. Their seminal album, The Trinity Sessions was recorded with a single microphone in Toronto's Church of the Holy Trinity, an engineering circumstance that has everything to do with the record's stark, spacious atmosphere. Bass and lightly brushed drums provide a soft, pulsating background, while gentle guitar embellishment weave around singer Margo's haunting vocal performances.
This live re-interpretation of that original session from 1988 featues guests such as Ryan Adams, Natalie Merchant, Vic Chestnutt and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird.
A full twenty years on from the original date of recording, the band's sibling mainstays revisited the same church in which the original was captured and decided to experiment with its familiar formats. The result is Trinity Revisited which, although maintaining the same track listing, has a slightly different feel. The spontaneous jam-like aspects remain, but they are given a different personality by the contributions from Adams and Chestnutt, among others.
Mastered by Ray Staff at Air Studios, London from the original 24bit/96khz sound files and pressed on Double 180g Gatefold vinyl by Pallas, Germany.

 The Mountain
Heartless Bastards
$16.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP + 7" - Sealed
|
The Heartless Bastards' story starts in Dayton, Ohio, where Erika Wennerstrom found the name on a multiple choice video trivia game at a bar. As a songwriting teenager during a time when GBV and Brainiac were packing local bars and three of the Breeders were still in town, Wennerstrom used to sneak into clubs to check out the scene. "I would just see those people, my music heroes, hanging out at the bar like everyone else," she remembers. "I could see myself in them. It gave me inspiration to do my own thing." After doing the usual business of playing local shows, the trio set out the following year on a regional tour. One of the first gigs of the trip took them to a bar in Akron, where Black Keys' drummer Patrick Carney just happened to be one of only a handful of people in the audience. This chance encounter led Wennerstrom and the Heartless Bastards to Fat Possum Records, with whom they released their debut, Stairs and Elevators, in early 2005.
The band moved on with critical praise in their back pocket, including a four-and-a-half star review from Rolling Stone, which took note that, when Wennerstrom “opens her throat on Stairs and Elevators … she sounds like she’s wailing on the shoulders of giants; her sad and angry vocals channeling all the swagger and spit of a young Robert Plant.” All This Time, was released during the summer of 2006, it received even more widespread critical acclaim than Stairs and Elevators. The Bastards played hundreds of shows to support the record. They played huge festivals and toured with Wilco and Lucinda Williams. Wennerstrom’s songs appeared often on TV shows and in films, this would be measured by most as a huge success. Though in Wennerstrom’s mind her sound and band were still evolving, and she knew it was time for a change.
In true ascetic discipline, she moved to Austin, Texas in 2007 for a change of inspirational scenery and a new recording project. With the help of producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail of Dead), she assembled a group of musicians with whom she gave the songs life and uncovered yet another layer of herself and the Heartless Bastards. The two new Bastards aren’t Texas ringers, but fellow Dayton brethren Dave Colvin on drums, and Jesse Ebaugh on bass, who actually played on the original demo that hooked Fat Possum. The album, entitled The Mountain, delivers the powerful howl that fans expect from the Heartless Bastards, but also weaves in adventure with mandolins, banjos, strings and Erika’s transcendent voice.

 I Am The Cosmos
Chris Bell
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Big Star co-founder Chris Bell was recording this solo album at the time of his death in 1978. Previously unreleased on any format, this 'Great Lost Album' clarifies Bell's role in the band's sound and secures his own place in pop history.
Bell died tragically in a car crash in 1978, and only one single ('I Am The Cosmos'/'You And Your Sister') was released in his lifetime, on Chris Stamey's tiny Car label. Both single sides are included here, along with newly-discovered alternate takes. The fifteen tracks highlight Bell's ethereal vocals, his uncanny sense of song structure and insightful, melancholy lyrics, all of which illuminate his often-overlooked contribution to Big Star. I AM THE COSMOS features rare photographs and liner notes by Chris's brother David Bell. Recorded all over the world (including sessions at the famed Chateau D'Heurville and Air studios), I AM THE COSMOS is a haunting pop masterpiece ripe for discovery.

 Judee Sill
Judee Sill
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Judee Sill's debut album (as well as the debut of the Asylum label) heralded a major new talent in the airy, contemporary folk world of the early '70s. The album employed the production skills of Sill's ex-husband Bob Harris, as well as ex-Turtle and ex-Leaves Jimmy Pons, and Graham Nash (on the album's sole single, 'Jesus Was s Crossmaker'). Judee Sill featured all original compositions, many of which relied on Sill's own brand of cosmological Christian imagery to make their point. By turns spare and lavishly orchestrated, there is still a cohesive feel to all of the album; her lyrics are exceptionally poetic and her voice is smooth enough to give every song a shimmery feel. The essence of the music is folk, the execution pop: the songs feel like a comfort blanket, a statement of hope from a troubled soul.
Track Listing:
1. Jesus Was a Crossmaker

 Happy Sad
Tim Buckley
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
One of the best albums of the late 60s and Tim Buckley's most underrated album, Happy Sad was a change-up pitch for the eclectic L.A. singer/songwriter. Sounding like a bit like Fred Neil's Capitol-era albums, Buckley and his small, acoustic-based ensemble create beautiful, jazz tinged folk-rock.
Track Listing:
1. Strange Feelin'
2. Buzzin' Fly
3. Love From Room 109 At The Islander (On Pacific Coast Highway)
4. Dream Letter
5. Gypsy Woman
6. Sing A Song For You

 Lorca
Tim Buckley
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Buckley's 1970 Asylum album once again available on vinyl. Continuing his jazz explorations, Buckley created the most 'out' album of his career. The 5/4 time signature title track is strikingly weird with haunted house pipe organ and two faster-paced numbers, the mellow contemplative love song 'I Had A Talk With My Woman' and the slightly funky blues-based 'Nobody Walkin',' are even fun. The band is Lee Underwood, John Balkin (bass, haunted house pipe organ on 'Lorca'), and Carter Collins (congas).
Track Listing:
1. Lorca
2. Anonymous Proposition
3. I Had A Talk With My Woman
4. Driftin'
5. Nobody Walkin'

 The Time Has Come
Anne Briggs

One of the most important figures of the British folk revival of the 1960s, Anne Briggs was a huge influence on such luminaries as Sandy Denny, Maddy Prior and Linda Thompson. The Time Has Come is her second full length, originally released in 1971. Unlike previous releases which contained mostly traditional songs with little or no accompaniment, this album features many self-penned numbers as well as a few contemporary covers with Briggs playing guitar and bouzouki. She only released two albums and a handful of singles/EPs before retiring from the music business making this reissue an important document of the British folk revival movement.

Adventure has never gotten the respect of Marque Moon. Perhaps its because it builds on the model of the first album and the songwriting is a bit more refined and polished. Verlaine's singing is more confident and less self-conscious and the playing shows the band in synch. Lloyd and Verlaine's guitar interplay is every bit as inventive as the debut. Don’t count out this 180g pressing from Earmark.

 Pink Flag
Wire
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Originally released on Harvest in 1977, Pink Flag is perhaps the most original debut album to come out of the first wave of British punk. Exhibiting severe art school damage, Wire careens at breakneck speed through 21 songs in 36 minutes to create an album that has influenced bands for nearly thirty years. 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
There are myriad details that illustrate why Wire's 1977 debut is bulletproof--or at least wildly compelling. There's the count of tracks--21 to be exact--the snare-cracked pulsing roll of 'Reuters,' which sports one of punk's greatest first lines: 'Our own correspondent is sorry to tell of an uneasy time, that all is not well.' There's the six songs that last under a minute (and at least that many more that last under a minute and a half), all of them urgently poised on Colin Newman's deadpan urgency--a laconic riposte to the shouting that in '77 was already central to punk. There's album closer '12XU,' which Minor Threat would make anthemic in their short hardcore-forging career. Pink Flag was made after Wire had played a mere 15 gigs, honing their sound in the atelier of the Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones, etc. without sounding a smidge like anyone else. Importantly, it's the band itself that got rights to remaster this flawless gem, in a cool gatefold digipak with a fascinating liner essay. That's something you don't see many punks do.

 Ladies Of The Canyon

Joni Mitchell's third release found her moving away from the wistful folk of her debut and Clouds, branching out into the progressive pop and jazz elements that would define her best work. The bright, poppy "Big Yellow Taxi," the album's single, is here, as is her epoch-defining "Woodstock," a soulful, stirring song about the 1969 rock festival that was later covered by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. But the material on Ladies Of The Canyon is uniformly strong, demonstrating the mature style and vision that made her one of the leading voices of the '70s. Ladies Of The Canyon was Mitchell's first classic album, one that helped pave the way for its watershed successor, Blue.

Harry Smith's Anthology Of Folk Music Volume 1
Various Artists
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

The importance of Harry Smith's work can not be overstated. Not only did he single-handedly save much of American folk music from extinction, but when he handed his record collection over to Smithsonian folkways in 1952, he opened the floodgates for the American folk revival of the following decade. Not since John and Alan Lomax had anyone paid so much attention to saving the American folk song from extinction, but unlike the Lomaxes, Smith was not a government worker armed with a tape recorder, he was just a guy from Portland, Oregon armed with a love for music and an insatiably curious mind. So, when the U.S. Government began melting down old records to be used as shellac during WWII, Smith kicked into high gear, buying up as many old 78s from the '20s and '30s as he could find. Much of the music found here then, comes from a time before television, arm-in-arm with rock & roll, began beaming its über-culture into every household in America erasing much of what had grown up locally in each area. As can be heard so beautifully on these ballads, prior to WWII America was in many ways no more than a patchwork of territories, with local cultures and musical traditions reaching both far into the immigrant past of each area's inhabitants, but also into the future to create something wonderful and firmly rooted in the newness and adventure of life on this new continent.

Much of the music found here then comes from a time before television began beaming its uber-culture into every household in America, erasing much of what had grown up locally. Prior to WWII, America was in many ways no more than a patchwork of territories, with distinct local cultures and musical traditions reaching both far into the immigrant past of each area's inhabitants, but also into a future firmly rooted in the newness and adventure of life on this new continent. And the “social music” that grew up in this time period was both “social” in the sense of “social gathering” (barn dances, religious gatherings, etc.), but also in the sense of “social issues” (labor rights, migration, money troubles, etc.). Their music was, therefore, a reflection of their lives, serving both as respite from their troubles (these were desperate times: the dust bowl, the depression, tenement housing, sweat shops, etc., were all part of the these people's everyday lives), but also as a vehicle for their discontent.

A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector

|
In 1963, visionary producer Phil Spector, then at the peak of his creativity and cultural influence, created one of the first—and still one of the greatest—rock ’n’ roll Christmas albums. Using the artist roster of his Philles label—the Ronettes, the Crystals, Darlene Love and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans—and the legendary studio musicians of the Wrecking Crew, Spector applied his fabled Wall of Sound to a set of Christmas pop standards and holiday-themed originals.
The resulting album brilliantly merges the holiday spirit with the singular sonic uplift of the Spector sound. Highlights include the Ronettes’ bubbly reworkings of “Sleigh Ride,” “Frosty the Snowman” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” the Crystals’ upbeat renditions of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and Darlene Love’s soulful readings of “Winter Wonderland,” “White Christmas” and the Ellie Greenwich/Jeff Barry/Phil Spector composition “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” A Christmas Gift for You concludes with a rare on-mike appearance by Spector himself, delivering a spoken holiday message to listeners.
A Christmas Gift for You originally had the misfortune of being released on November 22, 1963, the same day as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and was not a major commercial success. In the years since, however, it has been embraced as a beloved pop-culture touchstone, with many of its tracks becoming holiday airplay favorites. In 2003, A Christmas Gift for You was ranked Number 142 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Longtime Spector fan Brian Wilson has named it as his all-time favorite LP. The album’s influence has also been reflected in cover versions by contemporary artists. Bruce Springsteen based his interpretation of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” on the Crystals’ Spectorized version, while U2 closely followed Darlene Love’s original when covering “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).”
Sundazed’s new edition of A Christmas Gift for You is sourced directly from the original Philles label mono masters and is pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Listeners can now perfectly re-experience the original magic of this timeless holiday treasure!

 Leapin' And Lopin'
Sonny Clark
$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
It is some jazz musicians fate to be better known after their death then they were during their lifetime, to be considered a legend today when they were actually overshadowed by others during their prime. Sonny Clark, who died in January 1963 at the age of 31 due to self-abuse was well documented during 1957-62 but he never achieved the headlines of Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck, to name just three more famous pianists from the time. Blue Note fans have always known about Clark since he led seven superb albums for the label. Fans of Bud Powell knew that Clark was one of his top disciples, and collectors of Buddy DeFranco's records of the early 1950s were aware of his contributions to the clarinetist's recordings. But to a general public that bought Erroll Garner and George Shearing records, Sonny Clark was an unknown name. It was not until after his death that the music world seemed to finally realize what it had lost. On Leapin And Lopin, his last recording as a leader, Clark for the first and only time leads a quintet featuring trumpeter Tommy Turrentine and tenor-saxophonist Charlie Rouse. The pianist introduces a few of his final originals, takes many sparkling solos, and is heard at the peak of his powers, carving out his place in jazz history. This is timeless music and, although Sonny Clark may have been taken for granted during his life, he is now rightfully considered one of jazz's irreplaceable immortals.
Musicians:
Sonny Clark - piano
Tommy Turrentine - trumpet
Charlie Rouse - tenor saxophone
Butch Warren - bass
Billy Higgins - drums

 Portraits In Blues Volume 6
Lonnie Johnson
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Blues guitar simply would not have developed in the manner that it did if not for the prolific brilliance of Lonnie Johnson. He was there to help define the instrument's future within the genre and the genre's future itself at the very beginning, his melodic conception so far advanced from most of his pre-war peers as to inhabit a plane all his own. For more than 40 years, Johnson played blues, jazz and ballads his way;he was a true blues originator whose influence hung heavy on a host of subsequent blues immortals. Johnson's influence was massive, touching everyone from Robert Johnson, whose seminal approach bore strong resemblance to that of his older namesake, to Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, who each paid heartfelt tribute with versions of "Tomorrow Night" while at Sun. Remastered by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios.

 Ripe
Ben Lee
$18.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

An internationally acclaimed song ("Catch My Disease") that made the playlist for both a hit television drama and computer advertisement did nothing to alter Australia's Ben Lee. He remains youthful (still, at age 28), eminently fruitful (this marks his seventh album), and capable of surrendering addictive after captivating song (see "Love Me Like the World Is Ending," "Just Say Yes," and a half-dozen others on this 12-song set). Not surprisingly, Ripe rides a similar vibe to 2005's Awake Is the New Sleep: quick-and-dirty pop melodies polished with chiming guitars, piano fills, and Lee's exuberant, boyish vocals. Love and affection provide a common thread, blatantly exposing themselves on the interrogatory "Is This How Love's Supposed to Feel" and "Just Say Yes," where Lee asks, "If this is right, then why resist?" while purely insinuating infatuation on both "Blush" and "Numb." The indie veteran's camaraderie pays off on "Sex Without Love," where Good Charlotte's Benji Madden joins him on a chorus dangerously Def Leppardish and the Greaselike "Birds and Bees," with pop diva Mandy Moore playing Olivia Newton-John to Lee's John Travolta. The latter plays hokey for one or two listens before dissolving into the record's delightful sequence.

 Hotel California
The Eagles
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

The definitive American country rock album mastered from the original analog master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl for the first time! Hotel California marked a major leap for the Eagles and a stylistic departure from their earlier work. The album was their first to be made without Bernie Leadon, who had given the band much of its country flavor and first with rock guitarist Joe Walsh. It also sees the emergence of Don Henley as the band's dominant voice, both as a singer and lyricist. In the early part of their career, the Eagles never seemed to get a sound big enough for their ambitions; after changes in producer and personnel, as well as a noticeable growth in creativity, Hotel California unveiled what seemed like a whole new band. It was a band that could be bombastic, one that made music appropriate for the arenas and stadiums the band was playing. The result was the Eagles' biggest selling studio release and one of the most successful rock albums of all time. This is the absolute BEST PRESSING ever made. This is definitely the verion to own!

Another alternative classic originally released in 1991, available on vinyl for the first time since its initial release. The third album from Les Claypool & Co. and first for a major label, is a twisted mix of prog rock, funk and punk, with a taste for Frank Zappa's humor and Captain Beefheart's guttural growl. One of the few bands to have the bass as the prominent instrument, Claypool alternates from funky slaps to throbbing power chords to heavy, heavy solos while the guitar provides almost dissonant texturing beneath the bass' shredding. Features the MTV hit "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver." Here on 180g Vinyl!

 Hoodoo Man Blues
Junior Wells
$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl-45RPM- LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
One of the all-time great urban blues records and the best-seller in the famed Delmark catalog. Hoodoo Man Blues is so full of bravado and snap it'll make you feel tough just listening to it. Not all of the Delmark titles were recorded very well, but this one certainly was. And at 45 RPM, this now stands as the undisputed definitive version. Hoodoo Man Blues, which features Buddy Guy on guitar, is not only Junior Wells' first LP appearance, it's damn near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had reissued 45s by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc., but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of the limitations of juke box/airplay promotion. Hoodoo Man Blues went a long way in the popularization of real Chicago blues and of Junior Wells.

Along with A Date With Elvis, For LP Fans Only is one of the most important special productions of the young King of Rock 'n' Roll. Because Elvis had been conscripted into the US Army, no new recordings could take place, and so record producers delved deep into the sound archives and dug out a few singles from his Sun Records days, mixed them with a couple of early RCA songs and a number from the Love Me Tender soundtrack, and, presto! a new Elvis LP was born. The overwhelming success of this album is not solely confined to the stylistic homogeneity of this collection of fresh, youthful songs. Far more, it's because for many fans the record offered the only substitution for the highly coveted but rare original singles That's All Right, Mystery Train and My Baby Left Me.

Fear
$17.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Along with Black Flag and The Circle Jerks, Fear ushered in a new face of gritty, fast, angry punk rock which would later be called hardcore by some dedicated fans. While Black Flag and The Circle Jerks represented west coast inner suburb, art damaged nerds, Fear offered a sometimes sophisticated, sometimes offensive, always musically innovative antagonism that owed as much to stand up comedy and college boy saracasm as it did to the glam punk bands who came before them. Keep in mind that Fear was reportedly one of John Belushi’s favorite punk bands and he even managed to get them booked on an episode of SNL. Featuring: “Let’s Have A War” and “I Love Living In The City.”

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Original Boardwalk Style, a live album from Trey Anastasio and the Undectet released on Trey's own Rubber Jungle Records. Proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit the Seven Below Arts Initiative, established by Trey in 2006 to foster artistic development and support arts education in the state of Vermont.
The album was recorded at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ on December 30th and 31st of 2006, coming at the end of the band's holiday tour. The two shows marked the culmination of a long year of touring and growth of what began as a six-piece sextet in the beginning of the year and progressed into a full-force eleven member Undectet.
The raw energy of a well-oiled band at the top of its game permeated the set as the composer/vocalist/guitarist led The Undectet -- comprised of Tony Hall (bass, vocals), Ray Paczkowski (keyboards), Jeff Sipe (drums), Christina Durfee (vocals, synthesizer), Jennifer Hartswick (vocals, trumpet), Peter Apfelbaum (saxophone, flute), Russell Remington (saxophone, flute), Jeff Cressman (trombone), Dave Grippo (saxophone) and Cyro Baptista (percussion) -- through electrifying big band arrangements of his classic songs, replete with big horns and dazzling Brazilian percussive stylings.
Original Boardwalk Style features over 75 minutes of music, remixed from the multitrack masters by Trey and Ben Collette at Rubber Jungle Studios and mastered by Fred Kevorkian at Kevorkian Mastering.
