A Modern Jazz Symposium Of Music And Poetry
Charles Mingus
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Import
Originally released in 1957 on the Bethlehem label, this obscure album shows Charles Mingus exploring new territory with his sextet while incorporating vocals into his work. On the opening track, "Scenes In The City," Mel Stewart performs a spoken word piece written by actor and playwright Lonne Elder III and the legendary Langston Hughes. The track is a snapshot of Harlem and NYC in the 1950s and for that alone this album stands out in the Mingus repertoire. Although the rest of the album features no spoken word or poetry, the performances here are top notch.

Rock & roll pioneer and rockabilly king, Gene Vincent, formed his Blue Caps in Norfolk, Virginia with "Wee" Willie Williams on rhythm guitar, Jack Neal on bass, Dickie Harrell on drums, Paul Peek on vocals and guitar and the amazing Cliff Gallup on lead guitar. The Blue Caps name was a nod to Vincent's past in the U.S. Navy, who traded in his own Navy blue cap to become one of rock & roll's original bad boys. His first hit came in 1956 with "Be-Bop-A-Lula" and he soon had a deal with Capitol. This album, released in 1957, was actually Vincent's second LP for the label, but his first featuring almost all original material with the exception of "Unchained Melody" and "Blues Stay Away from Me."

Although Milt Jackson, John Lewis and Kenny Clarke had been playing together since the mid-'40s as the rhythm section for the legendary Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra, it was not until 1951, with the addition of Percy Heath, that they became the Modern Jazz Quartet. Experimenting with many styles, including bebop and Cool Jazz, they became perhaps best known for their formal presentation (in tuxedo) and choice of venues (concert halls), in a self-professed attempt to make jazz "serious," like classical music. Although their debut LP released in 1952 as a 10" is now a classic in jazz, the music still feels very immediate and features the earliest versions of their best known compositions. This version also features extra tracks from 1952-1954.

 Fork In The Road
Neil Young
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP
|
Recorded in 2008 between tour dates with his live band Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar, keyboards), Chad Cromwell (drums), Rick Rosas (bass), Pegi Young (vocals) and Anthony Crawford (vocals, guitar), Neil Young's newest offering Fork In The Road explores the dirty blues and the singer/songwriter's direct ruminations on his growing social and ecological concerns. The album's main themes center around Young's involvement with the Lincvolt Project, a joint effort between the singer and biodiesel pioneer Johnathan Goodwin to develop a commercially viable electric power system for automobiles. The prototype Lincvolt vehicle, Young's own 1959 Lincoln Continental, is now completely finished, and a documentary is planned about the car's first cross-country gasoline-free road trip to Washington, DC. Young even named one of the album's songs, "Johnny Magic,' after his Lincvolt partner. Songs such as "Cough Up the Bucks," "Fuel Line," "Hit the Road" and "Get Around" also support Young's green leaning concepts here.

 Nothing's Shocking
Jane's Addiction
$17.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Jane's Addiction may not have been a strict metal band, but their music was certainly full of traits inherent to the genre: hard, gleaming and powerful. Their 1988 release Nothing's Shocking captured the much too short-lived quartet at its absolute peak. Combining radically diverse musical elements from art and classic rock, to hard-core punk and funk, Jane's Addiction was the last great precursor to the alternative revolution of 1991-92. From songs about Ted Bundy ("Ted, Just Admit It") to punk ideology as Eastern philosophy ("Pigs In Zen") to mystic romances ("Summertime Rolls") and early-morning thoughts ("Standing In The Shower...Thinking"), Perry Farrell consistently dissects his subjects through a psychologically-stimulating viewpoint while the extremely talented band made up of guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkin provide the songs with an expansive set of musical colour. A must-have for lovers of cutting-edge, influential, and timeless hard rock.

Green Day's third release and major label debut, Dookie turned the San Francisco Bay area trio into overnight stars in 1994 and they've never looked back. Dookie won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance. Green Day was also nominated for Best New Artist, "Basket Case" was nominated for Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal and "Longview" was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance. This is where the garage punk-pop revival began. Before Nirvana and Nevermind, there was Green Day and the 1991 indie-released 39/Smooth. Previously out of print, this elusive album, now reissued for the first time on a major label, marks the genesis of modern rock. The earliest offering from what has become one of the biggest acts in the world today.

 Genesis 1970-1975 Box Set
Genesis
$149.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 6 LPs Sealed
|
The Limited Edition 50-track 6-LP Genesis 1970-1975 Box Set contains all the studio records from that era including Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, all on premium 180g vinyl in their original gatefold sleeves, housed in an open ended 316mm x 34mm slip/case box. The records were newly mixed by Nick Davis and Genesis, and produced in a high quality half-speed-mastering. One of the top-selling recording artists of all time, Genesis has sold over 150 million albums and this set collects some of the band's most adventurous and ground-breaking albums, covering Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Anthony Phillip's tenure with the group.
1970’s Trespass marked the beginning of a five-year journey that saw the band create ever more daring works of progressive rock. It features guitarist Anthony Phillips and drummer John Mayhew, who were replaced on the following album by Steve Hackett and Phil Collins respectively.
Nursery Cryme came in 1971, spotlighting the instrumental power and theatricality of the new line up on stand-outs including “The Musical Box,” “The Return of the Giant Hogweed,” and “The Foundation Of Salmacis.”
1972’s Foxtrot was a critically and popularly acclaimed breakthrough album that hit #12 in the U.K. and introduced two tracks that would be live staples for years: “Watcher Of The Skies” and “Supper’s Ready.”
Selling England By The Pound (1973) grew the band’s popularity and found their inventive storytelling and arrangements coming into sharper focus on tracks including “The Cinema Show,” “Firth Of Fifth,” and their first U U.K. hit single, “I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe).”
The 1974 double album The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway was Gabriel’s final with the band before Phil Collins took over as lead singer. The title track, “Carpet Crawlers” and “In The Cage” remain popular parts of live Genesis shows.

 Summerteeth
Wilco

|
+ Full Length CD - LP Cut from Original Masters and Pressed at Pallas in Germany!
With their 1999 release Summerteeth, Wilco transcended the alt-country confines of their acclaimed earlier albums and created what Jeff Tweedy called "a kind of a twisted pop record, a dark pop record." While staying true to its back-porch groove and plain-spoken poetry, one of the most admired alternative bands anywhere took yet another step forward here by taking on the art of classic pop music. The lush string arrangements and gorgeous harmonies of tracks like "She's a Jar" and "Pieholden Suite" suggest nothing less than a landlocked Brian Wilson, while more straightforward rockers like the opener "I Can't Stand It" bear the influence of everything from R&B to psychedelia. Still, for all of the warmth and beauty of the record's arrangements, Tweedy's songs here are perhaps his darkest and most haunting to date, where even the sunniest melodies mask moments of devastating power.

There have been several Kiss tribute albums over the years, but what sets this one apart is the stellar song selection. Together Through Life
Bob Dylan
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl + CD - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Bob Dylan's 46th career release and follow-up to 2006's Modern Times, Together Through Life features 10 new songs from the music legend including the tracks "Beyond Here Lies Nothin," "Life Is Hard" and "It's All Good." The album was recorded late last year after Dylan was asked to compose music for the Olivier Dahan film, My Own Love Song and it was produced under his usual pseudonym, Jack Frost.
In an interview on his website Dylan reveals that the record was inspired by the sound of classic 1950s Chess and Sun recordings.
"I like the mood of those records, the intensity. The sound is uncluttered. There’s power and suspense. The whole vibration feels like it could be coming from inside your mind. It’s alive. It’s right there. Kind of sticks in your head like a toothache. The Together Through Life songs have more of a romantic edge than the music on Modern Times. The songs on Modern Times brought my repertoire up to date, and the light was directed in a certain way. You have to have somebody in mind as an audience otherwise there’s no point."
"There didn’t seem to be any general consensus among my listeners. Some people preferred my first period songs. Some, the second. Some, the Christian period. Some, the post Colombian. Some, the Pre-Raphaelite. Some people prefer my songs from the nineties. I see that my audience now doesn’t particular care what period the songs are from. They feel style and substance in a more visceral way and let it go at that. Images don’t hang anybody up. Like if there’s an astrologer with a criminal record in one of my songs it’s not going to make anybody wonder if the human race is doomed. Images are taken at face value and it kind of freed me up."
This Double 180g Vinyl version also includes a full-length bonus CD.

On 1987's The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Hole) helped the Chili Peppers incorporate more of a hard-rock approach to their already rich blend of funk and punk. This would be the best and unfortunately final album to feature the Kiedis/Flea/Slovak/Irons lineup as Slovak died from a drug overdose in 1988, and Irons exited soon after, turning up several years later as the drummer for Pearl Jam. Highlights include "Fight Like a Brave," "Funky Crime," "Me and My Friends," "Backwoods," "Behind the Sun," "No Chump Love Sucker" and "Special Secret Song Inside."

 Country Life
Roxy Music
$20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Country Life is Roxy Music's second release after the departure of Brian Eno and it's arguably the highpoint of the band's ouput from that era. The haunting, melancholic "The Thrill of It All," the art-rockin' "Out of the Blue," the almost-pure '50s rock of "If It Takes All Night," the decadent affectations of "A Really Good Time" and the concluding "Prairie Rose," all offer glimpses of alternative rock before the genre even existed. The combination of textures is exhilarating, and the songwriting which draws on elements of R&B, cabaret music and glam rock is among the band's most accomplished. Here on Limited Edition 180g Vinyl.

Merle Haggard
$20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

One of Merle Haggard's finest recordings, 1968's Mama Tried is comprised of a number of strong originals and several excellent covers. While "Mama Tried," "I'll Always Know" and "You'll Never Love Me Now" all happen to be some of Haggard's most solid original offerings, it's his gritty and honest interpretations of songs like "Little Ole Wine Drinker Me," "In the Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad)," "Teach Me to Forget," "Run 'Em Off" and "Too Many Bridges to Cross Over" that help distinguish Mama Tried as perhaps the most quintessential "Bakersfield-Sound" album ever recorded.

 A Short Break
Robert Wyatt
$24.99
Colored Vinyl 10" LP - Sealed
|
As the original drummer for Soft Machine, Robert Wyatt played a fundamental role in bringing the sixties British psychedelic scene in a more interesting and experimental direction. A man with a strong character Wyatt soon left Soft Machine to form his own band, Matching Mole (a pun on machine molle, French for “soft machine”), but a fall from a third story window in the early seventies leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, effectively ending his drumming career. This did not stop Wyatt, however, who continued recording as a solo artist. A Short Break, an EP originally released in 1996 features Wyatt on piano, percussion, organ and vocals. The songs are intimate and melancholy. A glimpse into Wyatt’s private and complex world of ideas and music. Clear green vinyl.
Track Listing:
1. A Short Break

 On Tour With Eric Clapton
Delaney And Bonnie And Friends
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In the late '60s and early '70s, Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett played vibrant, country-tinged blues-rock that also owed a heavy debt to gritty Memphis R&B. And while their singing and playing were consistently top-notch, their profile was not weakened by their association with Eric Clapton, who toured with them between his stint in Blind Faith and the formation of Derek and the Dominos. In fact, when considering Clapton's musical evolution, it seems clear that the rootsy, downhome vibe of Delaney & Bonnie was a direct influence on the direction of his solo career. This excellent live set showcases Delaney & Bonnie's superb vocal performances and Clapton's superior guitar playing. Whether on the driving, Stax-style soul ("Things Get Better") or good old rock & roll (Little Richard medley), the band which consists of some of the finest musicians of the day, tears it up.
Track Listing:
1. Things Get Better

 Relapse
Eminem
$15.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Anticipation for Eminem's new studio album Relapse has been building since the fall, when the hip hop superstar first announced the album title and debuted the freestyle, "I'm Having A Relapse," during an interview on his Shade 45 satellite radio station. The release of "Crack A Bottle" from Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent brought that anticipation to a head. The track soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Eminem's second #1 after 2002's "Lose Yourself") and set a Nielsen SoundScan record for opening week download sales. "Crack A Bottle" will be included as an album track on Relapse.
With the announcement of the release date for Relapse also comes confirmation of something that had been rumored in recent weeks: Eminem is already working on a follow-up album, Relapse 2, that fans can expect in the second half of 2009. "A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year," explains Eminem. "I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff."

 Garlands
Cocteau Twins
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Originally released in June of 1982, the debut album by the Cocteau Twins is considered far darker than some of their later offerings, being influenced by Siouxsie and the Banshees, early Cure and The Birthday Party. During this early period, Will Heggie's bass played a significant role in defining their sound, giving it a darker and heavily rhythmic, earthy texture. This combined with Robin Guthrie's minimalistic and heavily effected guitar arrangements; a great deal of distortion and feed-back, smoothed out with chorus, reverb and flanger. Beneath is the Roland 808 drum machine thumping along, as distinctively Cocteau sounding as the guitar. All while Elizabeth Fraser seemed to veer into glossolalia and mouth music. Garlands marks the beginning of their haunting ethereal sound. A masterpiece. Remastered from the original analogue tapes specially for this 180g vinyl edition, the disc features a picture label on the A side, with a vinyl inner bag and the original sleeve art printed on double white heavy board.

1. Blood Bitch
2. Wax and Wane

Jim Ford
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Jim Ford's previously unissued second album and follow-up to the country-soul classic Harlan County, as it was intended to be heard, restored and re-mastered from the original master tapes in magnificent full stereo high-fidelity sound. Jim Ford was Sly Stone's best friend and Nick Lowe's biggest musical influence. Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack and The Temptations have all recorded his songs. But after just one mythical album, Harlan County, in 1969, he disappeared. Many tried to find Jim Ford without any success, until Swedish music journalist and devoted fan L-P Anderson found him living in a northern California trailer park in 2006. Ford's modest residence contained a mountain of old master tapes and demos. Anderson befriended Ford and heard a story that even Hollywood scriptwriters would have said was too impossible to be true. Before leaving California, Anderson promised he'd get some of the tapes out on record. A compilation, The Sounds Of Our Time, appeared on Bear Family Records in 2007 and became a big success. The record spent four weeks on the Swedish charts and received worldwide critical acclaim. Ford was overwhelmed with the positive response but unfortunately he passed away in November of 2007 at the age of 66, just before the launch of Bear Family's second Jim Ford compilation, Point Of No Return.
This self titled album was originally meant to be released by Capitol Records in October of 1970, but Ford fell out with the company's executives before the project was manufactured. Apparently, he got $20,000 and the master tapes. He also got strict orders never to show his face inside the Capitol building again. And now for the first time, here's Jim Ford's second album on 180g Import Vinyl LP.
Track Listing:
1. The Sounds Of Our Time
2. Big Moth USA

4. Thirty Six Inches High
5. Wonder What They'll Do With Today
6. Point Of No Return

 River Of Time
Jorma Kaukonen
$19.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock
|
Returning to his blues and rock roots, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jorma Kaukonen mixes some of the funky innovation of his early Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna days with the clean acoustic riffs of his Grammy-nominated Blue Country Heart album. Produced by Larry Campbell at Levon Helm's Woodstock studio, River of Time features Levon on drums and a cast of stellar musicians including mandolin virtuoso Barry Mitterhoff.
Six of it's thirteen songs are Jorma originals, a prolific showcase with themes of family, friends and inspired memory throughout. The album also revisits the blues and country music that Jorma first fell in love with in his youth, featuring bright new interpretations of Mississippi John Hurt, Merle Haggard and Rev. Gary Davis along with a tribute to old friend "Pigpen" Ron McKernan on the Grateful Dead's "Operator." Whether reinterpreting classics or crafting new originals and shimmering instrumentals, River of Time finds Jorma at the top of his game with inventive arrangements and his strongest songwriting to date.

Although the band name itself may not ring any bells for too many people, largely because it never relased any records during its lifetime (1964-1967), The Wilde Flowers were a pillar of the legendary Canterbury scene of the mid-to-late '60s. Band members included: Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers, Hugh Hopper (all soon to form the seminal Soft Machine) as well as members from another influential Canterbury band, Caravan (David Sinclair, Richard Sinclair, Pye Hastings, Richard Coughlan, Brian Hopper). Learning To Bend
Ben Sollee
$14.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Ideas of human struggle and perseverance are central to celloist/songwriter Ben Sollee's debut album Learning To Bend. The tracks "A Few Honest Words" and the adaptation of Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" both take relevance with the state of the current political landscape while the playful, soul track "How To See the Sun Rise" and the vulnerable yet insistent "It's Not Impossible" balance the album gracefully.
Sollee was named one of NPR's 'Top Ten Unknown Artists of the Year' in 2007. His distinctive cello technique and soulful voice have been marinating for years in his work with avant-garde bluesman Otis Taylor, The Sparrow Quartet (featuring Bela Fleck) and on the internationally known Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour.

 Heart Food
Judee Sill
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The second album Judee Sill made proved to be her last. A notoriously slow songwriter, this enjoyable outing took its toll on Sill during its making, turning her back to her recently-kicked heroin addiction and away from the desire to create more music. Instead of using an outside arranger for the strings (as she did on her previous album), Sill did all of the work herself. Her lack of formal training and the immense amount of orchestral overdubs certainly would have made such an outing a hardship for anyone. It's a stellar example of the kind of singer/songwriter fare the music industry was mining in the early '70s. The supporting cast of top L.A. studio musicians solidifies Sill's unique brand country-flavored pop, which moves from introspective meanderings to loping rock, often within a single song.
Track Listing:
1. There's a Rugged Road
2. The Kiss
3. The Pearl
4. Down Where the Valleys Are Low
5. The Vigilante
6. Soldier of the Heart

Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The NIght)
Yusuf/Cat Stevens
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
With his reintroduction to the pop world behind him, renowned singer-songwriter Yusuf (the artist known as Cat Stevens) is ready to once again strike up an intimate relationship with his audience. After retreating from the pop stage following classic '70s multi-platinum albums such as Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat and acclaimed hits such as "Wild World," "Peace Train," "Moonshadow," "Morning Has Broken" and "Father And Son," Yusuf returned in late 2006 with his first pop album in 28 years. Now he's back again with a second album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night).
"I was absent from my audience for so long," Yusuf says, "people thought another album would never come. The 2006 album, An Other Cup, was a surprise. With this new album, the distance is much less. I'm back to doing what I do best, painting pictures with music and storytelling on a very human, personal, intuitive level through lyrics and song, so I can help people feel good again. I guess in some ways the new album picks up where the Cat Stevens the public knows left off."
The album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night), was produced by the now singularly named Yusuf with help from Martin Terefe (James Morrison, Jason Mraz, Martha Wainwright), and recorded around the world. Guests include Morrison, Michelle Branch and Holly Williams (granddaughter of Hank Williams, Sr.).
"The new album is a response to the way An Other Cup was received," Yusuf explains. "Fans said they wanted to hear more of me with a guitar. So, this album is much more folk-tale oriented. Also, apart from one track, all of it was recorded live. I listened to a lot of' '70s L.A. music, such as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carole King, and it inspired me to go back into that intimate style of recording. The songs are somewhat autobiographical but abstract enough so everyone can relate to them and connect them to their own lives."
The title track, "Roadsinger," unfolds the tale of an outcast who revisits his old hometown; along the empty street a child peeks from behind a store window and gives an innocent smile out of the shadows of prejudice. "The theme of a journey has always been big with me," says Yusuf. A journey that was unexpectedly cut short in 2004 was when Yusuf was flying from his London home to Washington, D.C., en route to a meeting with Dolly Parton, who had recorded "Peace Train" several years earlier and wanted Yusuf to play guitar on her cover of his "Where Do the Children Play." The incident that made headlines was resolved in 2006 and Yusuf's new song "Boots and Sand" resulted.
"There are plenty people who sing, but not enough who have walked far from their block," he says. I embraced an unexpected spiritual path that was confusing for many (converting to Islam in 1977). "Sadly, I'm still often misunderstood. Some people want to put me into their own one-sided view, but I don't fit those limitations. My world is still borderless and wide. The removal of conflict and establishment of peace has always been my global objective. It's a shame that lot of people, including some Muslims, overlook the name Islam, which actually comes from the word 'Peace' in Arabic."
The forthcoming album also showcases some songs from his upcoming musical Moonshadow. The story takes place on a planet of perpetual night where only the moon's shine lights the darkness; it is about a boy's meeting with his Moonshadow and the adventures they share in search for the a world of the sunlight and happiness. As well as having many new songs, the surrealistic musical, Moonshadow also weaves classic songs from his past, including "Morning Has Broken," "Wild World" and "The First Cut Is The Deepest."
Yusuf's return to his guitar came about when his teenage artist-musician son, Muhammad (aka Yoriyos), brought one home again. One morning, Yusuf was alone in the lounge when he looked over and felt a draw of curiosity overtake him. He slowly picked it up. "I put my fingers on the fretboard to make a 'C' chord," he remembers, "and surprised myself, It's still there! It felt right. So I started playing again." On the forthcoming album, Yusuf even plays electric guitar on a couple of tracks, along with keyboards. "This part of my career feels similar in one sense to when I began," Yusuf reflects. "I had to get past the songs on Mona Bone Jakon before I could move on to Tea For The Tillerman, etc. This time around it was the same story: I laid the groundwork with my debut album, An Other Cup, which inspired a great new collection of songs and scribblings. I had quite a few in my back pocket and again it was my son who sparked the next step. He said, 'Isn't it time to start recording a new album?' And it was."

As the author of standards including The Dolphins, Everybody's Talkin' and Other Side To This Life, Fred Neil needs no introduction to music fans. His early songs were recorded by artists including Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, but his own six pop and rockabilly singles, released between 1957 and 1961, sold in tiny quantities and have rarely been heard since. Side By Side
Duke Ellington
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
There’s only one guy who can make an alto saxophone sound like this and superlative after superlative come to mind when you listen to these nine numbers, which were recorded at the close of the '50s. The idea of scaling down Duke Ellington’s band for jam-session-like numbers is absolutely genial because it offers soloists great opportunities to display their artistry. And these wind musicians are the best of the best, masters of their instruments. We have Roy Eldridge, who influenced the transition from swing to be-bop and a modern style of trumpet playing; Harry Edison, whose light and airy Basie-swing style cannot be denied; and Ben Webster, who amalgamates both the Count’s and the Duke’s style of swing. And then there is Johnny 'The Rabbit' Hodges, whose natural feeling for rhythm and gentle tone is brought to optimal expression within this concept.
"Squeeze Me" and "Stompy Jones" both stem from the '40s and are often performed, but in this session they have been rejuvenated in a masterly fashion. The standard "Let’s Fall In Love" demonstrates Lawrence Brown’s highly personal sound on the trombone and then goes on to spotlight Roy Eldridge and Johnny Hodges, both of whom prove that they are at the very zenith of their artistic prowess. "Ruint" and "Going Up" provide a showcase for Johnny Hodges, while "Just A Memory" focuses on the gentle, sometimes rather sentimental sound of Ben Webster.
Just as exceptional is the recording quality of this LP. Timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the two sessions, the reissue offers a excellent opportunity to pay homage to the Verve recording engineers.

 Bleach
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Colored - 2 LPs Sealed

Marking the 20th Anniversary of Nirvana's debut album, Bleach, Sub Pop is reissuing the groundbreaking set in expanded and remastered form. This deluxe double-LP includes a never-before-released live performance, special packaging, and the first run will be on 180g white vinyl (the first run of the original LP was also on white vinyl).
Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, Bleach was released in June of 1989 and remains unequivocally and unsurprisingly Sub Pop's very favorite Nirvana full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of the group's 1991 sophomore effort, Nevermind. Subsequently, Bleach has gone on to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone.
This 20th Anniversary Edition has been remastered from the original tapes at Sterling Sound in a session overseen by Endino. The bonus tracks comprise an unreleased live recording of a complete February 9th, 1990 show at Portland's Pine Street Theatre and features performances of "Love Buzz," "About a Girl," and a cover of The Vaselines song "Molly's Lips." Like the studio album, the concert has also been remixed from the original tapes by Endino.

Bravery Repetition & Noise (180 Gram)
The Brian Jonestown Massacre
$32.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Lp - Sealed
|
Bravery, Repetition and Noise is a dark and dreamy album, rich in atmosphere, layered in waves of sound. The album's antecedents are clear, inspired by both psychedelia and punk's nihilism, pulling both strands into a doom-laden, experimental sound quite distinct from anything that had come before or since. BJM uses this as their touchstone, lovingly re-creating the moods and atmospheres of the past.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase and the band's name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.
Along with The Dandy Warhols, BJM is one of the subjects of the documentary DIG!, winner of the 2004 Grand Jury Prize Documentary at Sundance. DIG! is also a part of the Permanent Collection of the NY Museum of Modern Art.
