LSP 1993 Chet Atkins: In Hollywood Recorded in Hollywood California adjacent to the current Classic Records Location (ex - RCA records warehouse) this album is widely recognized as one of Chet Atkins best efforts. Transferred from the original 15 ips, 2-track 1/4"master tapes this album sings tunes from Fats Waller among others and features orchestral accompaniment. The sound is great on 200g SV-P for the first time and so is the second "girl cover" that replaced the original.

When Cannonball Adderley scheduled the 1958 recording of what was to be his only Blue Note LP, he called on his old employer from their days as quintet members on Columbia, Miles Davis. A Blue Note catalog mainstay from it's debut in 1958, this was another early 12" originally released as "mono only." Now, transferred from the first-generation mono masters, the quintet sound is wide-open and spacious. The phrase "all star" does not begin to describe this recording collective. Complimenting Clark's piano are Art Farmer on trumpet. Jackie McLean handling alto, and a rhythm section consisting of Paul Chambers on bass and Phily Joe Jones behind the drums.

Norah Jones's debut on Blue Note is a mellow, acoustic pop affair with soul and country overtones, immaculately produced by the great Arif Mardin. (It's pretty much an open secret that the 22-year-old vocalist and pianist is the daughter of Ravi Shankar.) Jones is not quite a jazz singer, but she is joined by some highly regarded jazz talent: guitarists Adam Levy, Adam Rogers, Tony Scherr, Bill Frisell, and Kevin Breit; drummers Brian Blade, Dan Rieser, and Kenny Wolleson; organist Sam Yahel; accordionist Rob Burger; and violinist Jenny Scheinman. Her regular guitarist and bassist, Jesse Harris and Lee Alexander, respectively, play on every track and also serve as the chief songwriters. Both have a gift for melody, simple yet elegant progressions, and evocative lyrics. (Harris made an intriguing guest appearance on Seamus Blake's Stranger Things Have Happened.) Jones, for her part, wrote the title track and the pretty but slightly restless "Nightingale." She also includes convincing readings of Hank Williams's "Cold Cold Heart," J.D. Loudermilk's "Turn Me On," and Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You." There's a touch of Rickie Lee Jones in Jones's voice, a touch of Bonnie Raitt in the arrangements; her youth and her piano skills could lead one to call her an Alicia Keys for grown-ups. While the mood of this record stagnates after a few songs, it does give a strong indication of Jones' alluring talents.

Beauty and Crime is possibly Suzanne Vega’s best effort since her debut album and likely even better than the highly acclaimed “Solitude Standing”. “Beauty and Crime is a lengthy meditation on the city of New York, the place she calls home. These songs glide like a harlequin's ghost through the hearts and minds of city residents past and present, on its streets, in its hotels, apartments, in every corner of the city. There is more than the hint of memory on Beauty & Crime. The album is dedicated to the memory of Tim, who lived on "Ludlow Street" -- the name of the set's second cut, a searing and simply moving tribute to him -- and cites as muses in part "...Edith Wharton and all her heroines...and Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner for their passion," and who have songs named for them here. In doing so, 9/11 itself cannot be left out of the equation, and the album's final two cuts deal with personal versions of this story, one of which is informed by her brother-in-law Angel Ruiz, a New York City cop stationed at Ground Zero after the attacks on the World Trade Center. Most of these songs look at life in the interim, or remembering what the city was like in the '70s as on the cut "Zephyr and I."??Musically, this is easily her most adventurous record ever; yet it is also more accessible than any album since her debut. The craft and care put into the songs themselves and their articulation by Vega and producer Jimmy Hogarth are amazing. Here, emotions are laid bare in places whether in the first, second, or third persons, but they are always placed inside elegant yet spare lyrics that are taut, poetic, and evocative. The dreamy soundscape contains layers of guitars, percussion (organic, electronic and live, in one case) strings, reeds, brass, and backing singers (including daughter Ruby Froom who appears on a couple of cuts, and KT Tunstall who appears once). But it's the sound of Vega's acoustic guitar on all these songs that is unmistakably at the top and provides the album's anchor. It's important to note this, simply because it keeps these beautiful pop songs rooted in a new kind of contemporary folk that Vega was a pioneer of in the '80s. And it keeps her rooted to her own catalog, from the beginning to the present. In other words, as she has experimented in the past with all kinds of sounds, she has forever remained herself and never more so than here, whether it's the jazzy, faux bossa nova of "Pornographer's Dream" or its predecessor, the stunning "New York Is a Woman." "Frank and Ava," is a rocking pop tune whose electric and acoustic guitars entwine, seemingly kissing, wrapped around a bassline played by Tony Shanahan from the Patti Smith Group writes a reviewer from All Music Guide.” Mixed by Tchad Blake and recorded at both Sear Sound in New York and Olympic Studios in London , the sound of this record is full of depth and nuance that every audiophile and music lover will love. So dubbed because these three sessions two from early 1949, one from March 1950 are where the sound known as cool jazz essentially formed, The Birth of the Cool remains one of the defining, pivotal moments in jazz. This is where the elasticity of bop was married with skillful, big-band arrangements and a relaxed, subdued mood that made it all seem easy, even at its most intricate. After all, there's a reason why this music was called cool; it has a hip, detached elegance, never getting too hot, even as the rhythms skip and jump. Indeed, the most remarkable thing about these sessions arranged by Gil Evans and featuring such heavy-hitters as Kai Winding, Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz, and Max Roach is that they sound intimate, as the nonet never pushes too hard, never sounds like the work of nine musicians. Furthermore, the group keeps things short and concise (probably the result of the running time of singles, but the results are the same), which keeps the focus on the tones and tunes. Another '59 release, this is one of three official duet dates released on LP by these two. As usual, sparks fly between the dueling alto saxes when the "heir apparent" Woods is joined by the seemingly unknown and definitely under-recorded Quill. Arrangements pay homage to the masters with material from Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and Dizzy Gillespie, none of which is foreign territory for any of the players. This 1960 trio date was pianist Parlanâ€™s first of many great releases for Blue Note. The Pittsburgh native, who overcame polio as a child that left his right hand crippled, had gained some serious props with his contributions on two of Charles Mingusâ€™ best albums the year prior (Mingus Ah Um, Blues And Roots), and was now ready to step out on his own. Maybe not exactly the first ‘Dizzy’ that comes to mind when discussing jazz, this Jamaican-born, British-raised trumpeter overcame whatever burdens that nickname may have wrought, to become a highly respected player in the New York scene. He enhanced that rep by recording some truly excellent albums for the Savoy, Blue Note and Prestige labels among others. Christened Alphonso Son Reece, his robust and passionate playing styles always seemed to inspire other musicians in his company. The contributions by the esteemed trio invited; pianist Walter Bishop, Jr., bassist Doug Watkins and drummer Art Taylor unilaterally match the front-man’s fire and bold approach to each tune. Straight-ahead bop versions of American Song Book greats “Our Love Is Here To Stay”, “Once In A While” and “(I Don’t Stand A) Ghost Of A Chance” standout, as does the Reece’s original composition, “ Blue Streak”. Gary Karr became an audiophile favorite largely as a result of the King Super Analogue recording of Albinoni’s Adagio in G minor played by Gary Karr on solo bass with organ accompaniment. In 1959, Gary Karr made his first record entitled “Gary Karr Plays Double Bass” a collection of pieces from Eccles, Ravel, Bloch and others for Golden Crest Records. A few years later a second recording of Alec Wilder compositions for Bass and Piano and Bass and Guitar was also released on Golden Crest. On this outstanding second effort Gary Karr is accompanied by Bernie Leighton on piano and Fredrick Hand on guitar. After auditioning the master tapes we decided that these two wonderful recordings by a stellar bass musician needed to be reissued which is what we have done here by combining the recordings into a two disc set as part of the “Classic Records Presents…” Series. Both titles were mastered and transferred by Bernie Grundman in Hollywood California from the original analog master tapes and cut on Classic Records’ “All Tube” cutting system. If you are a Gary Karr fan then this is a must have release, If you are unfamiliar with “Mr. Bass” then these recording are a great place to start.

A stripped-down, unpolished version of 2006's Living With War, with choir and overdubs having been jettisoned, delivers an even more powerful, jacked-up conduit of the message. Recorded live in the studio in only two weeks with sparse musical support, it's hardly subtle themes and lyrics (Let's Impeach The President) are Young's personal shock and awe, commenting, as he had swiftly done on the 1969 Kent State killings ("Ohio"), on the political turmoil in the U.S. and it's war on terrorism. The original version fanned the flames and both doves and hawks were glad when it faded from the news.This new version is bound to keep the heat up for some time. Mastered and cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood from the original demo mix master tapes gives this compendium edition a rawer, more edgy sound - similar to other recent NY releases. Additionally, all new gatefold artwork makes this package a natural, "must have" alternate version of the first release of "Living With War" in 2006. This release is a compilation of Stokowski/Houston performances recorded at the Houston Civic Center by Bert Whyte and originally released in 1960. Compositions include Stokowski arrangements of “Wotan’s Farewell” and “Magic Fire Music” from Wagner’s “Die Walkure,” “Mazurka in A minor,” “Prelude in D minor” and "Waltz in C sharp minor” by Chopin. Also included is the not often performed or recorded “Fantasy on a Hymn Tune” composed by Thomas Canning. The LP, as are all reissues from this series, was cut DIRECTLY FROM THE 35mm MAGNETIC FILM using a vintage Westrex 1551 tape machine, with specially built playback electronics that are vastly superior to any others used on these machines to playback the original 35mm tapes. An excellent 1960 get-together with some fresh faces joining altoist LD. Long under-valued trumpeter Bill Hardman and especially pianist Duke Pearson assist in infusing probably more soul than even Donaldson expected into the arrangements. Augmented by Al Harewood’s impeccable timekeeping and Sam Jones and Laymon Jackson splitting time at the bass, the result is a fine mix, with strong writing contributions all-around. Attention should be paid to the originals offered up by Donaldson (“The Truth”, “Goose Grease”), Parlan (“Blues for J.P”) and Hardman (“Politely”), as should the smooth takes on the commonalities “Softly”, “As In A Morning Sunrise”, “The Man I Love” and “It’s You Or No One”. Mastered and cut on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and cutter head makes this the definitive version of this LP and possibly better than impossible to find original copies!

1971 saw the release of some of the greatest pop/rock albums of all time. Imagine, Pearl, Sticky Fingers, Who’s Next, Tupelo Honey, Surf’s Up, Fragile, Led Zep’s IV, Muswell Hillbillies, Tapestry, What’s Going On? and both Madman Across the Water and Tumbleweed Connection are just some of the iconic titles that hit the stores that year. Add Aqualung and that’s quite an output for a twelve month span. Generally considered the pinnacle of the band’s recorded output, front-man Ian Anderson’s songwriting was quickly evolving from British folk-blues roots and helping define prog-rock. While definitely pushing the envelope for the era in taking on the subjects of God and organized religion, it was guitarist Martin Barre who was establishing equal ground with Anderson’s flute as an instrumental voice of the band. Joining Tull after Toni Iommi (Black Sabbath) who himself had replaced original guitarist Mick Abrahams (Blodwyn Pig, Mick Abrahams Band) departed after only a few days, both Barre’s opening riffs and lead breaks became indelibly imprinted to generations of classic rock. Songs such as My God, Hymn 43, Locomotive Breath, Cross-Eyed Mary, Wind Up and of course the title tune became FM radio staples and are in-demand concert favorites to this day. The Classic Records reissue of Aqualung was cut from the original analog master tapes obtained from Ian Anderson on Classic's "all tube" cutting system by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman mastering. A perfect pairing from 1959 of fellow Blue Note roster mates that result in one of Donaldson’s finest pure bop sessions. The trio, anchored by pianist Gene Harris, is a cool departure from standard quintets the front man normally had been booking. Lou’s tenor is the focal point, front and center of course but the threesome, completed by Andy Simpkins on bass and Bill Dowdy behind the drum kit, takes a backseat to no one. With ample support and balance, they assist LD in re-defining Tin Pan Alley ditties such as Blue Moon and Three Little Words into hardened jazz romps while bringing plenty to the table on Donaldson originals such as Smooth Groove and Jump Up. Along with his “Songs For My Father”, Blowin’ The Blues Away constantly ranks as one of pianist Horace Silver’s finest group of original compositions. For decades, only former band-mate in the original Jazz Messengers ensemble, Art Blakey, could match Silver in ears for talent and the feeding grounds their groups became, spawning players who later became jazz giants. The group assembled here is no exception. This exact line-up would eventually stay in-tack, becoming the incarnation of the first Blue Mitchell Quintet, with Chick Corea replacing Silver. The afore-mentioned Blue Mitchell along with Junior Cook on tenor, Gene Taylor’s bass and drummer Louis Hayes help Silver deliver a fine mix of tempos including the ballad Peace and the gospel/soul-tinged Sister Sadie, both of which became jazz standards. On The St. Vitus Dance and Melancholy Mood, Silver reverts back to his early trio days with confidence and imagination. When Bob Marley and the Wailers recorded their legendary 1975 London gig, little did they know of its lasting power. From the opening shuffles of Trenchtown Rock to the rabble-rousing Get Up, Stand Up, this brief recording captured Marley's combo of critical invective and languid musical power. The Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, like the Beethoven and Brahms companion concertos, requires a true virtuoso to reveal it in its proper light. Fortunately, such a virtuoso was Tossi Spivikovsky, who accompanies Walter Goehr conducting the London Symphony Orchestra to a rousing performance. Sibelius’ only violin concerto, was completed in 1903 and contains segments that require virtuosity to do full justice to its technical and interpretive intricacies. Just such a virtuoso, in Tossy Spivakovsky, plays violin on this Everest recording of Tauno Hannikainen conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. The recording is another Bert Whyte sonic triumph on 35MM film. Having to follow four monumental releases in succession, The Who By Numbers is often overlooked and unfairly overshadowed. Produced again by Glyn Johns and released in 1975, the album is a more modest, simple affair, certainly withstanding the test of time by its own merits. In what might be his most personal tell-all collection (outside of some of his future solo albums), Pete Townshend lays it out there in lyrics of brutal honesty regarding battles with alcoholism and womanizing. Probably best known for the radio-friendly ditty Squeeze Box, the set also contains patented Who in the terms of Slip Kid, Blue Red and Grey plus one of bassist John Entwistle’s best compositions, Success Story. London studio regular Nicky Hopkins adds tasteful keyboard fills throughout. As part of the Classic Who LP reissue series, this title was mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original ¼” analog master tapes sourced directly from The Who. It's-It contains remixed versions of tracks from each of the Sugarcubes' three albums. Since emerging as a solo artist, Bjork has gone on to considerable acclaim with her remixes, however, at the time of its 1992 release, the notion of Sugarcubes remixes was unheard of. There's a lot to like here though, including two radically differing versions of the brilliant "Birthday," the band's breakthrough single. Other standout cuts include a largely instrumental version of "Motorcrash," a slower paced "Regina," and an upbeat and looser "Hit."

The third, and last, Sugarcubes studio album, Stick Around For Joy was released in 1992 at the height of the first wave of alternative rock, and it's something of a departure for the band. The album offers more muscular straight-ahead rock than the Sugarcubes' previous releases, leaving most of their previous eccentricity to be delivered by Bjork's astonishing vocal range and the occasional spoken word intonations of Einer Orn.

On his first of many to come for Blue Note and what was also his album debut as a leader, trumpeter Hubbard at the tender age of twenty-two, made both a strong statement and lasting impression with Open Sesame. It’s a stunning debut that finds a very interesting mix of cats joining in on old and new but always invigorating tunes, all. Often overlooked due to other tiles also released during Horace Silver’s peak period (1954-1965), Horace-Scope is a solid collection that holds up quite well today. It again features the fine tandem of Junior Cook’s tenor and Blue Mitchell’s trumpet who, by now, found their interplay becoming second-nature, almost telepathic. Other Silver regulars Gene Taylor and Ray Brooks handle bass lines and drum fills, respectively. Arrangements are spot-on, tight in the pocket and surprisingly ultra-soulful in the solo turns. It’s easy to think that the highlight of this album is Silver’s first attempt at his own “Nica’s Dream,” which had been debuted by Art Blakey three years prior, and it just might be. But equally intoxicating are the takes on “Strollin,’” “Without You” and the title tune, all of which Silver and Co. make totally their own. Pianist Parlan had found a level of relative comfort during 1960-61, recording with the same four musicians on five distinct Blue Note albums under various leaders’ names; three of them, his. With a front-line of the Brothers Turrentine; Tommy on trumpet (who’s lack of any albums under his own name for Blue Note or any other jazz label at the time is curious if not mind boggling) and his younger sibling Stanley on tenor (who eventually help write the book on Blue Note tenors), the band is rounded out with George Tucker’s bass and Al Harewood on drums. With Parlan’s relaxed but subtly swinging style holding it together and Big Stan’s thick tone, peppered with blues and soul inflections, songs such as “Wadin’”, “Oh So Blue” and the title tune sizzle. An interesting inclusion is a quick revisit by Parlan to his future jazz standard “Up In Cynthia’s Room”, which he had debuted on his trio set, Movin’ And Groovin’, just five months prior. . Blue Note was very lucky (and astute) to have their Three Trumpeteers; Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard on the roster at the same time. Other labels were lucky (or dying to) to have one trumpeter of such caliber. Their combined, prolific output of albums, many of which attained classic status, is legendary. One constantly near the top of most lists is Byrd In Flight. Byrd decided to mix it up, with Jackie McLean (alto) on one date and Hank Mobley (tenor) on the second. Duke Pearson’s signature smooth piano work appears across the board as does the reliable drumming of Lex Humphries. Reggie Workman and Doug Watkins split duties on bass. Both sessions resulted in classic be-bop romps, mostly on originals such as Byrd’s Afro-Cuban tinged “Ghana” and “Lex”, a song dedicated to drummer Humphries. Pearson contributes three solids with “Gate City”, “Bo and My Girl Shirl”. The lone standard tackled, “Little Boy Blue” is given an intelligent yet playful injection of the quintet’s personalities. This Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series release was mastered and cut on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system allowing the listener to hear the music as Rudy Van Gelder mixed and intended it to be heard – in PURE MONO with no “faux stereo” artifacts from using a stereo cutter head! This 1959 12” is made up of two distinct sessions, including Jackie McLean’s first as a leader for the label. These sides helped establish him as one of the finest young alto voices on the jazz scene. Although a strong album through-and-through, the strongest material lay in the interplay between the altoist and the still under-appreciated tenor Tina Brooks. A great and unique alto/tenor tandem was born and sadly short-lived, due to Brook’s demise at a young age. But the handful of selections they were able to create on this and a few other Blue Note releases are superb. The release of this truly iconic album virtually launched Leo Kottke out beyond the St. Paul-Minneapolis confines where he had been ensconced as a local phenom. By jumping on board John Fahey's burgeoning Takoma label, Kottke's guitar wizardry (especially finger-picking a 12-string, usually reserved as rhythm accompaniment) gave other guitarists far and wide, second thoughts. Throw in some sassy slide work on both 6 & 12 String Guitar and you'll know why this particular record is commonly referred to as an Intro to Guitar 101. With twelve original compositions plus a few by J.S. Bach, Kottke's blues, folk, country and classical channelings dictate both his playful and reflective approach on each. An 11 track soundtrack composed by Björk with minimal vocals for celebrated contemporary visual artist Matthew Barney's film Drawing Restraint 9, in which she also appears. Barney is best known for The Cremaster Cycle, five films made over ten years. He is the youngest living artist to be honoured with a retrospective at The Guggenheim Museum (New York).

Unlike her soundtrack for Lars von Trier's film Dancer in the Dark which drew on the tradition of theatrical and cinema musicals (and won her Best Actress at Cannes), this is a collection of delicate single instrument studies, for harp, harpsichord and celeste, large orchestral masses scored for trumpet, trombone and oboe, electronic basslines, children's choir and, in a manner recalling the all-vocal Medulla album, Björk's singular voice, treated as an instrument of astonishingly flexible texture. The soundtrack orientates itself around the traditional music forms of Japan as the film was shot in Nagasaki Bay onboard a whaling ship. The opening sequence, sung by Will Oldham (a.k.a. Bonnie Prince Billy), sets out the folk-culture roots of whaling, and the barbed political history in which those drowned.

Björk has written a suite of haunting music for the sho, one of the oldest instruments in Japanese culture with seventeen reeds and fifteen distinct pipes. It is performed by Mayumi Miayata, one of the world's foremost sho players. Björk also worked with scholars of the Noh theatre to produce new musical settings, incorporating the low, growling vocal techniques of traditional Japanese court entertainment. As a counterpoint to the ancient, Björk's collaborations with her close circle of electronic producers continues - Mark (LFO) Bell, Valgeir Sigursson, Akira Rabelais and Leila.

The most famous bootleg in rock history, with the possible exception of Dylan's own Basement Tapes finally made its official appearance 32 years after the event, and nearly 30 years after it started circulating in the underground. Although often identified as a Royal Albert Hall show, this May 17, 1966, concert, in which Dylan played electric material in front of a British audience, was actually recorded in Manchester (hence the unwieldy title with quotes around "Royal Albert Hall"). Even those who've owned this recording for many a year should be tempted by this official package, as it has been expanded to include the eight electric rock songs from the original bootleg, but also the seven solo acoustic performances that comprised the first half of the show. It's all in great fidelity. More importantly, the electric half in particular is an important document of rock history. It captures the point at which Dylan was at his most controversial and hard rocking as he blazes through mid-'60s classics such as "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Ballad of a Thin Man," radical electric arrangements of songs that had originally been recorded acoustically ("One Too Many Mornings," "I Don't Believe You"), and the hard rocker "Tell Me, Momma," which Dylan never recorded in the studio. Generally considered one of rocks first concept™ albums, this December 1967 release was preceded by two months with its first single release, the monster hit â€œI Can See For Milesâ€. Recorded in London, New York and Los Angeles including some post-production at the famed Gold Star Studios, this album was a turning point in the bandâ€™s progression, weaving pure pop power with minor psychedelia in both a humorous mockery and tribute to Britainâ€™s pirate radio scene, complete with faux commercials written and performed by the band, interspersed between songs. Also included is their second single â€œMary Ann With The Shaky Handâ€ plus the mini-drama â€œRaelâ€, featuring Al Kooper on organ, which was originally intended as a full scale rock-opera by itself and propelled Pete Townsend to the realizations of both Tommy and Quadrophenia. The Stereo version was mastered and cut at Bernie Grundman Mastering by Chris Bellman on Classic's "all tube" Stereo cutting system from the original Stereo master tapes provided by The Who. This was cut from complied 30 ips analog master tapes prepared by John Nowland at Neil Young's Redwood Ranch Studios and mastered and cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. It was 35 years ago at about this time that Jimi Hendrix took the stage at the Fillmore East in New York to perform a set that would become, in part, one of the best Live albums ever recorded - entitled simply "Band of Gypsys". In fact, Hendrix played two nights at the Fillmore, the second performance being on New Years day 1970 after a rousing performance on New Years eve 1969. To celebrate the beginning of the new decade, Fillmore East impresario Bill Graham went to great length to ensure a special evening for his patrons, dressing his ushers in special shirts and placing toy tambourines on each of the venue's 2,639 seats. He strode onstage and introduced "some very old friend with a brand-new name" As the sold-out crowd roared in approval, Jimi led his trio through a scintillating 75 minute set. Hendrix was ON this night delivering perhaps his finest live performance. His playing was focused and precise. In fact, for most of the set, Hendrix stood motionless, a far cry from the stage antics that helped establish his reputation as a performer. Equipment problems had plagued him in past live shows as well, but everything was perfect for the Fillmore shows. His absolute mastery of his guitar and effects is even more amazing considering that this was the first time he used the Fuzz Face, wah-wah pedal, Univibe, AND Octavia pedals on stage together. The guitar tones he gets on "Who Knows" and "Power to Love" are powerful and intense, but nowhere is his absolute control more evident than on "Machine Gun," where Hendrix conjures bombs, guns, and other sounds of war from his guitar, all within the context of a coherent musical statement. The solo on "Machine Gun" totally rewrote the book on what a man could do with an electric guitar and is arguably the most groundbreaking and devastating guitar solo ever. At midnight, when the strains of the Guy Lombardo Orchestra's "Auld Lang Syne" filled the theatre, the Band of Gypsys appeared back on stage, Jimi launching into his own arrangement of the traditional year-opener, a beautiful rendition that captivated the audience immediately. Now Classic Records brings back this legendary title for the first time on our Quiex 200g Super Vinyl Profile. George Marino and Eddie Kramer mastered and cut the lacquers from the original analog two track masters at Sterling Sound in New York with Michael Fremer in attendance in 1998. The legend lives on as do our memories of one of Rock's greatest performers - Jimi Hendrix.

The first of three solo albums by the ex-Genesis singer, all to be officially released as only "Peter Gabriel". In time, the three would take on "also-known-as" nicknames based on the front-cover artwork of each. This volume is usually referred to as Peter Gabriel (I, Car). In 1977 there was much anticipation for the first solo effort from the flamboyant Gabriel. Three years had passed since his swan song with Genesis. He had certainly exited on a high note indeed with The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. While fans shouldn't have worried about the survival of Genesis without their original lead singer, neither would they be disappointed in his solo debut. Produced by Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper), he addressed the split with his band mates in the allegoric hit "Solsbury Hill", while retaining the art-rock sensibilities he had pioneered. The balance of the album, transferred from the artist's personal original master tapes, includes other concert favorites, such as Moribund The Burgermeister, Modern Love, Excuse Me, Humdrum, Slowburn, Waiting For the Big One, Down The Dolce Vita (featuring the London Symphony Orchestra) and Here Comes The Flood.
