 Union
Toni Childs
$14.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Union's release in 1988 announced a bold, incendiary new voice in the singer/songwriter sweepstakes in Toni Childs. The well-traveled Childs, the short-term original lead singer for Berlin, draws upon the vast experiences of her life and delivers them with an urgency that is hypnotically compelling. It's all tied together by David Tickle's production and aided by first-rate backing by musicians including songwriting collaborator David Ricketts, drummer Rick Marotta and guitarist David Rhodes. The single Don't Walk Away kicks things off in high gear and Childs rarely looks back. Her take-no-prisoners vocal drives the funky, horn-driven track, which is backed by the gospel swell of the background vocalists. Although the rest of the album is a little more sedate, Childs never loses the urgent edge to her dusky voice. Stop Your Fussin' is sung to a restless lover over a Caribbean rhythm and Hush has a playful bounce to it. Elsewhere, Zimbabwae is a parable detailing African strife complete with chanting background vocals and Dreamer provides her with a bed of keyboards that shimmer like stars. The twice Grammy-nominated Union received universal critical acclaim and is riveting right through the moody poetry of the final track, Where's the Ocean. Tom Demalon
Track Listing:

2. Walk And Talk Like Angels
3. Stop Your Fussin
4. Dreamer

 Prairie Wind (200 Gram)
Neil Young
$44.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Prairie Wind is an adventure akin to taking a drive through one's own
life stopping off to revisit old friends and loved ones along the
way. For Neil Young fans this album delivers
songs that instantly stick in your mind as familiar. Tunes like
Falling Off The Face Of The Earth and The Painter evoke thoughts
of introspection that remind us of our humanity and its ultimate
fragility. No Wonder feels like
a early 70's anthem applied to more recent events while Far From
Home, with its bluesy harmonic interludes and horn accompaniment,
tells a story of fond reminiscence of childhood and growing up.
It's A Dream incites one to confront how fleeting our surroundings
are and ,in a sense, the desire to have them remain as more than
just a memory without anywhere to stay. The title track weaves
the same bluesy harmonica and horn section with a group backup
singers to create an eerie and evocative scene. Neil Young has
created in Here for You possibly the ultimate love song with a pace
and harmonica rifts reminiscent of Bob Dylan in the mid 60's if he'd
been in Nashville. This Old Guitar is a masterful story of life
that is impossible not to relate to in one way or another and
features a great backing vocal from Emmy Lou Harris making this tune
even more special. He Was King is clearly a tribute to Elvis
which harkens back to an easier time. The final track When God Made
Me asks the questions about our humanity we all ponder at some time
in our lives. This is an album, dedicated to his father that Neil
Young made for himself, his friends and family and is giving, as a
gift, to the rest of us. We can all benefit from the insights
contained here and possibly gain some important perspectives on life
- thanks Neil.
Classic Records, in cooperation with Reprise Records and Neil Young are proud to present Prairie Wind as a
Deluxe 2 LP gatefold edition. Included is an 18 page 12 x 12
booklet with lyrics and photos printed with soy based inks on paper
that is from sustainable forests and Rain Forest Alliance certified.
The LP mastering and cutting was done at Bernie Grundman Mastering in
Hollywood by Chris Bellman using the original 1/2 analog master
tapes with plating and pressing on Classic's proprietary 200g QUIEX
Super Vinyl Profile at RTI. The sound is, to put it bluntly, without
compare and sets a new standard for sonic achievement. Is this Grammy worthy? You bet it is.
As an added bonus, side 4 of the set is an interview with Neil
discussing guitars, equipment, music, musicians and musical arrangers
among others things. Not to be missed!

 Peter Gabriel Two (Scratch)
Peter Gabriel

The pairing is ideal - the former front man of Genesis, as produced by
the leading light of King Crimson. On this, Peter Gabriel's second album,
the songs On the Air and D.I.Y. are stunning slices of modern rock
circa 1978, bubbling with synths, insistent rhythms, and polished
processed guitars, all enclosed in a streamlined production that
nevertheless sounds as large as a stadium. Other tunes include A
Wonderful Day in a One-Way World ,White Shadow, Animal Magic, the
tense yet catchy Perspective, and the reflective closer Home Sweet Home.

Roy Orbison
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed

This third Orbison release came on the heals of Lonley and Blue and
Crying and includes the hits Blue Bayou and All I have to do is Dream.
This Bill Porter recording directly onto two track stereo offers two
perspectives - mono from a fold of the discreetly recorded stereo channels
and a stereo presentation directly from the master. Porter intended the
recording to be presented in Mono and as such recorded the stereo channels
discreetly so that the blend in combining (mixing) the two tracks makes for
a perfectly layered musical presentation which supports Orbison's
astonishing vocal exquisitely. This is a must have record from the original
2 track master tape mixed into mono and cut on Classic's pure Mono
(horizontal cutting only) all tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman.

This is the soundtrack from the Movie,

Melanie Cruse, Ed Harris, Jeff Bridges among many others, the Dylan Man

worth seeing but the soundtrack is great featuring a myriad of Dylan tunes
covered by an international cast of musicians in a host of styles. There
are also four tunes that Dylan himself covers, two of which are brand new
versions. This is a must have for any serious Dylan fan or music lover.
This package is a two LP set with a gorgeous gatefold jacket and printed
inner sleeves. A top recommendation.

 Scoop
Pete Townshend
$19.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Pete Townshend's demos had grown legendary among Who collectors well before
the official release of the double-album Scoop in 1983. On each demo,
Townshend worked out full arrangements, which the Who would often follow
exactly. He also recorded a wealth of songs and instrumental pieces that
never made it to record. Over the course of two albums, Scoop features 25 of
these demos, including both classic Who songs (So Sad About Us, Bargain,
Behind Blue Eyes, Magic Bus, Love Reign O'er Me) and unreleased gems
(Politician, Melancholia, To Barney Kessell, Mary). Occasionally,
the songs sound better in their demo versions, particularly on latter-day
Who songs, which were over-wrought in their official incarnations. But what
makes Scoop so fascinating is its revelation of the depth and detail of
Townshend's imagination, and how he refined his ideas. But even casual fans
will find the sheer musicality of the record worthwhile it's one of the
most focused and impressive albums he has ever released.

 Boomtown
David and David
$14.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
David & David's Boomtown is a hard look at urban life in the 1980s, a time when many were fulfilling the American Dream of financial success and upward mobility. It is not an easy album to listen to, as the characters depicted in the songs are often dealing with major problems such as drugs and domestic violence. But it is an artful record, full of poetry and convincing stories of the hard times that many silently endured. At times the record is full of pop hooks, and at other stages a more bleak sound dominates. The vocals of David & David are also effective in telling the tales, as often there is a shrill, despondent quality that complements what is being related to the listener. In particular, the drums have kind of a hushed sound to them, and the guitars often purvey sounds of doom through distortion or other means. Welcome to the Boomtown is the hit off the album, and is one of various cuts that convincingly detail the many trials of the characters such as Kevin, who deals dope out of Denny's keeps a table in the back. Although there are often hints of hope and seemingly a sense of compassion toward the subjects in the songs, it is not apparent that most will eventually pull themselves out of their predicaments. One may not want to listen to this record to lift the spirit, but it is a strong reminder of difficult situations faced during what can be perceived by many as the best of times.
Track Listing:
1. Welcome to Boomtown
2. Swallowed by the Cracks
3. Ain't So Easy
4. Being Alone Together
5. A Rock for the Forgotten

 Who Came First
Pete Townshend
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Pete Townshend's first solo album is a homespun, charming forum for low-key, personal songs that weren't deemed suitable for The Who, as well as spiritual paeans (direct and indirect) to his spiritual guru Meher Baba. Who fans will be immediately attracted by the presence of a couple of songs from the aborted Who concept album Lifehouse (much of which ended up on Who's Next), Pure & Easy and Let's See Action. The Who did eventually release their own versions of both those songs. This record shows a folkier and gentler side to The Who's chief muse. Sheraton Gibson is a neat tune about rock & roll road life, and Time Is Passing takes very subtle inspiration from Baba. Most of the rest of the album contains some of the most unusual pieces Townshend has released: his acoustic cover of Jim Reeves' There's A Heartache Following Me (recorded because it was one of Baba's favorite tunes), Evolution (which is actually pretty much a solo track by his buddy Ronnie Lane of The Faces), Parvardigar (adapted from Baba's Universal Prayer), and Content (a philosophical poem by Maud Kennedy that Townshend put to music). Transferred from the two track 1/4 analog masters on the Bernie Grundman all tube cutting system and pressed on Classic s 200g QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile.
Track Listing:
1. Pure & Easy
2. Evolution
3. Forever's No Time At All
4. Let's See Action

 Porgy & Bess (200 Gram)
Ray Charles & Cleo Laine
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
This is the famous version of Porgy and Bess that was supposed to have Gladys Knight singing the part of Bess. When Ray Charles offered the part to Gladys, having just come of the hit Midnight train to Georgia, her manager at the time, would only allow her to participate if she owned the masters. According to Ray, he said, well now you know that just won't be possible to which her manager responded that she wouldn't be available. Ray told me that his mother taught him the meaning of NO and hence he asked Cleo Laine, who did a beautiful job of singing the part. Ray was also in top form as this 2 LP edition mastered from the original analog masters shows very clearly. Now available on 200g Quiex Super Vinyl Profile for the first time. A must have!

 Birdy
Peter Gabriel
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Peter Gabriel's first foray into soundtracks was for Alan Parker's
contemplative film Birdy and is a successful companion piece, providing a
backdrop that is moody and evocative. Nearly half of the album's dozen
tracks incorporate threads from material found on Gabriel's 1982 Security
set, including Close Up, which makes use of keyboard passages from Family
Snapshot, and The Heat, which is a reworking of The Rhythm of the Heat
and builds to a frenzied percussive crescendo. Material specially written
for this project includes the murky opening track, At Night, the tribal
Floating Dogs, and Slow Marimbas, a track which would become part of
future live performances. The fact that Birdy is comprised of all
instrumentals and its meditative nature makes it fine, reflective listening
for the more adventurous. The transfer was from the original two track 1/2
analog master tapes provided by Peter Gabriel's Real World for cutting the
master lacquers. The detail, clarity and bottom octave weight are superb!
Track Listing:

 Plays Double Bass
Gary Karr
$39.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Gary Karr became an audiophile favorite largely as a result of the King Super Analogue recording of Albinoni’s Adagio in G minor played by Gary Karr on solo bass with organ accompaniment. In 1959, Gary Karr made his first record entitled “Gary Karr Plays Double Bass” a collection of pieces from Eccles, Ravel, Bloch and others for Golden Crest Records. A few years later a second recording of Alec Wilder compositions for Bass and Piano and Bass and Guitar was also released on Golden Crest. On this outstanding second effort Gary Karr is accompanied by Bernie Leighton on piano and Fredrick Hand on guitar. After auditioning the master tapes we decided that these two wonderful recordings by a stellar bass musician needed to be reissued which is what we have done here by combining the recordings into a two disc set as part of the “Classic Records Presents…” Series. Both titles were mastered and transferred by Bernie Grundman in Hollywood California from the original analog master tapes and cut on Classic Records’ “All Tube” cutting system. If you are a Gary Karr fan then this is a must have release, If you are unfamiliar with “Mr. Bass” then these recording are a great place to start.

 Living With War-In The Beginning
Neil Young
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
A stripped-down, unpolished version of 2006's Living With War, with choir and overdubs having been jettisoned, delivers an even more powerful, jacked-up conduit of the message. Recorded live in the studio in only two weeks with sparse musical support, it's hardly subtle themes and lyrics (Let's Impeach The President) are Young's personal shock and awe, commenting, as he had swiftly done on the 1969 Kent State killings (Ohio), on the political turmoil in the U.S. and it's war on terrorism. The original version fanned the flames and both doves and hawks were glad when it faded from the news. This new version is bound to keep the heat up for some time. Mastered and cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood from the original demo mix master tapes gives this compendium edition a rawer, more edgy sound - similar to other recent NY releases. Additionally, all new gatefold artwork makes this package a natural, must have alternate version of the first release of Living With War in 2006. ALL Classic / Reprise Neil Young vinyl issues including LWW...In the Beginning, are pressed only on Classic's proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile.

The Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, like the Beethoven and Brahms companion concertos, requires a true virtuoso to reveal it in its proper light. Fortunately, such a virtuoso was Tossi Spivikovsky, who accompanies Walter Goehr conducting the London Symphony Orchestra to a rousing performance. The LP, as are all reissues from this series, was cut directly from the 35mm magnetic film using a vintage Westrex 1551 tape machine, with specially built playback electronics that are vastly superior to any others used on these machines to playback the original 35mm tapes. The Len Horowitz / History of Recorded Sound specially modified 1551, fitted with brand new playback heads matched to the revolutionary playback electronics was stationed at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. With Len Horowitz running the playback machine and Bernie Grundman mastering from the three track 35mm tapes, Classic Records has been able to cut the legendary sound and performances through Classic's ALL TUBE tape playback system and cutting system at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood.

Sibelius only violin concerto, was completed in 1903 and contains segments that require virtuosity to do full justice to its technical and interpretive intricacies. The recording is another Bert Whyte sonic triumph on 35MM film. In addition to the concerto, Whyte and team recorded Sibelius last tone poem, Tapiola, referred to by many as a consummate masterpiece written with extraordinary simplicity and directness. It's It
Sugarcubes
$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
It's-It contains remixed versions of tracks from each of the Sugarcubes' three albums. Since emerging as a solo artist, Bjork has gone on to considerable acclaim with her remixes, however, at the time of its 1992 release, the notion of Sugarcubes remixes was unheard of. There's a lot to like here though, including two radically differing versions of the brilliant Birthday, the band's breakthrough single. Other standout cuts include a largely instrumental version of Motorcrash, a slower paced Regina, and an upbeat and looser Hit.
For all the audiophiles out there One Little Indian is reissuing 38 classic albums using the newest technology in vinyl manufacturing - Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering. The groove is cut directly in copper metal. Transient response is greatly improved. Stampers are plated directly from the DMM Copper Master, eliminating two of the three plating steps required for lacquers. In short, DMM yields better detail resolution and a lower noise ratio. This is especially good for long play albums, or audiophile material. All albums are remastered direct from the original master tapes and pressed on 45RPM heavy weight 200g virgin vinyl audiophile discs. Each release is strictly limited, housed in a plastic wallet and individually numbered. A chance to pick up classic One Little Indian albums in the most lavish vinyl format available.

The third, and last, Sugarcubes studio album, Stick Around For Joy was released in 1992 at the height of the first wave of alternative rock, and it's something of a departure for the band. The album offers more muscular straight-ahead rock than the Sugarcubes' previous releases, leaving most of their previous eccentricity to be delivered by Bjork's astonishing vocal range and the occasional spoken word intonations of Einer Orn.

 Live At The Fillmore East
Neil Young
$39.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Fans of Neil Young and Crazy Horse waited years to hear the band live with original leader Danny Whitten, the talented guitarist who was lost to a heroin overdose in 1972, and this incredible collection of well-produced and well-performed live tracks performed at the Fillmore East was well worth the wait! The long-anticipated first live release from Young's personal archives, 1970's Live at the Fillmore East also happened to feature Miles Davis on the same bill no less and was only heard on various bootleg versions before this release. On tour in support of the album Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere, the recording features Young backed by Crazy Horse plus renowned arranger and future collaborator, the late Jack Nitzsche on piano. Staples such as Down By The River, Cowgirl In The Sand and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere get the full on stretched out treatment that Young's shows would become known for. A great slice of prime Neil Young and friends in all their raw, ragged, rockin' glory. Mastered and cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood from analog master tapes prepared by John Nowland at Neil Young's Studio. All Classic/Reprise Neil Young vinyl issues including Live at Fillmore East, are pressed only on Classic's proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile.
Track Listing:
1. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
2. Winterlong
3. Down By The River

 Horace Scope
Horace Silver Quintet
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Often overlooked due to other tiles also released during Horace Silver's peak period (1954-1965), Horace-Scope is a solid collection that holds up quite well today. It again features the fine tandem of Junior Cook's tenor and Blue Mitchell's trumpet who, by now, found their interplay becoming second-nature, almost telepathic. Other Silver regulars Gene Taylor and Ray Brooks handle bass lines and drum fills, respectively. Arrangements are spot-on, tight in the pocket and surprisingly ultra-soulful in the solo turns. It's easy to think that the highlight of this album is Silver's first attempt at his own "Nica's Dream," which had been debuted by Art Blakey three years prior, and it just might be. But equally intoxicating are the takes on "Strollin," "Without You" and the title tune, all of which Silver and Co. make totally their own. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classic's ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Great record. Highly recommended!
Track Listing:
1. Strollin'
2. Where You At?
3. Without You
4. Horace-Scope
5. Yeah!

 Speakin' My Piece
Horace Parlan
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Pianist Parlan had found a level of relative comfort during 1960-61, recording with the same four musicians on five distinct Blue Note albums under various leaders names; three of them, his. With a front-line of the Brothers Turrentine; Tommy on trumpet (whos lack of any albums under his own name for Blue Note or any other jazz label at the time is curious if not mind boggling) and his younger sibling Stanley on tenor (who eventually help write the book on Blue Note tenors), the band is rounded out with George Tuckers bass and Al Harewood on drums. With Parlans relaxed but subtly swinging style holding it together and Big Stans thick tone, peppered with blues and soul inflections, songs such as Wadin, Oh So Blue and the title tune sizzle. An interesting inclusion is a quick revisit by Parlan to his future jazz standard Up In Cynthias Room, which he had debuted on his trio set, Movin And Groovin, just five months prior. . As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Great record highly recommended!

 Jackie's Bag
Jackie McLean
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45rpm LP - Sealed

This 1959 12 is made up of two distinct sessions, including Jackie McLeans first as a leader for the label. These sides helped establish him as one of the finest young alto voices on the jazz scene. Although a strong album through-and-through, the strongest material lay in the interplay between the altoist and the still under-appreciated tenor Tina Brooks. A great and unique alto/tenor tandem was born and sadly short-lived, due to Brooks demise at a young age. But the handful of selections they were able to create on this and a few other Blue Note releases are superb. Donald Byrd, Blue Mitchell, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Paul Chambers, Sonny Clark, Kenny Drew and Billy Mitchell collectively make McLeans album debut, memorable. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. The Little Willies
Norah Jones
$39.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The self-titled debut by The Little Willies is an album that perfectly distills the fun, down-to-earth spirit of this New York band's club shows. The group - Lee Alexander (bass), Jim Campilongo (electric guitar), Norah Jones (piano, vocals), Richard Julian (guitar, vocals) and Dan Rieser (drums) - tears through a mix of covers and originals, from the revved-up western swing of Fred Rose's "Roly Poly" and Willie Nelson's "I Gotta Get Drunk" to the cutting wit of Kris Kristofferson's "Best Of All Possible Worlds" from the poignancy of Townes Van Zandt's "No Place To Fall" to the cosmic absurdity of their own "Lou Reed".
The Little Willies formed for purely practical reasons. In 2003, the group of five friends, who were all individually involved in other projects, booked a gig at The Living Room on New York's Lower East Side as an excuse to spend an evening playing music together. They soon discovered that they shared a deep musical vernacular.

Louis Armstrong
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

One of the lesser-known Louis Armstrong sets, this album was recorded during the same day that resulted in his similar I've Got the World on a String. The great trumpeter/singer is backed by a string orchestra arranged and conducted by Russ Garcia. He performs eight veteran standards, only one of which ("Body and Soul") was associated with him in the past. Although the accompaniment is pretty straight and unadventurous, it is enjoyable to hear Satch's interpretations of such songs as "Have You Met Miss Jones," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Home" and "East of the Sun." Many of his trumpet solos during the medium-tempo material are brief but dramatic, and his singing is typically expressive and good-humored.-Scott Yanow, AMG

Bjork's 1997 release Homogenic is an emotional explosion. Bjork had moved to Spain to record an album that would sound like Icelandic nature, trying to put a definition on what Icelandic techno would sound like. Earthquakes, volcanos and lavafields, mixed with high-tech elements and strings. The result was the supernatural Homogenic and its dynamic desegregate of aggressive beats and soothing ballads.

Concerto For Orchestra -- Houston Symphony Orchestra
Bela Bartok & Leopold Stokowski
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Bartoks Concerto for Orchestra derives its name from the approach taken in treating instrument groups within the orchestra in a concertante or soloist manner throughout the piece. This virtuoso treatment, for example, is notable in the fugato section of the first movement where the brass are highlighted as well as in the second movement where pairs of instruments appear consecutively creating a brilliant passage. Stokowskis interpretation of this popular Bartok composition was recorded at the Houston Civic Center by Bert Whyte and team and originally released in March of 1961. With Len Horowitz running the playback machine and Bernie Grundman mastering from the three track 35mm tapes, Classic Records has been able to cut the legendary sound and performances directly from the 35mm magnetic film through Classic's ALL TUBE tape playback system and cutting system at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. The LP's are pressed on Classic's 200g Super Vinyl Profile making it possible to get every nuance out of the non-distorted grooves that make SVP sound superior to all other records on the market today. 200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

The Icelandic avant-pop pioneers, the Sugarcubes' second record, Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week! was originally released in 1989 and it's rich in eccentric contrast and playful contradiction. Teaming the swooping vocals of lead singer Bjork and the spoken word agit-propisms of trumpeter Einer, is bizarre yet very well matched. Notable tracks include the calypso-tinged Tidal Wave, the barbed and jagged rhythms of Nail and the hyperactive A Day Called Zero.

Limited Edition Direct Metal Master Import
Originally issued back in 1997, Von was the first full album release from Icelandic drifters Sigur Ros and it's now available here on Limited Edition Direct Metal Master 200g Import LP. The sound across these 12 tracks is reassuringly primitive, though often daring, drifting from 4AD-inspired quasi-shoegazing atmospherics at one moment, and John-Cage inspired silence the next. The band was quite obviously at this stage not only looking at the reverberating echoes of the British Indie scene of the late 80s, but also in its more ambitious forefather, Prog rock.

An American Classic: Gorgeous Breakthrough Album of Pop Standards Spent More than a Decade on Country Charts
Quintuple Platinum 1978 Set Finds Nelson Interpreting Fare From Likes of Kurt Weill, Hoagy Carmichael, and Irving Berlin
Sumptuous Sound Elevates Booker T. Jones Production: Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI
As a Singer, Nelson Never Better: Gets Inside the Phrasing, Lyrics, and Emotions of Songs
Why be predictable?, Willie Nelson asked Columbia Records executive Nick Blackburn, after the latter resisted the Red Headed Strangers decision to make an album of classic pop tunes. Talk about outlaw country. Cutting against the genres traditions and Music Row conventions, Nelsons Stardust remains a genius-level creation as well as the icons most commercially successful release, a truly gorgeous record infused with ultimate respect for composers and lyrics and many of the finest performances of his career. It is a quintessential part of any catalog.
Having met Jones while living in Malibu, Nelson established a relationship with the musician that extended to roles as producer, arranger and band mate. Jones superior knowledge of the American Songbook comes through via the materials economy of scale and sympathetic approach. Acoustic guitar arpeggios, contrasting breaks, bluesy harmonicas, glowing organs, R&B-tinged horns, brushed drums, and relaxed bass lines trickle throughout the songs, all distinguished by Nelsons intimate timbre and absolutely astonishing vocal expressiveness.
In redefining and reimagining standards such as Irving Berlins Blue Skies, Hoagy Carmichaels Georgia On My Mind, and the age-old All of Meall of which landed in the Top 5 of the Country singles chartNelson wedded together pop, country, jazz, folk, and blues in a manner in which no artist had ever before done. He gained considerable rewards for his exquisite efforts: Stardust sold more than five million copies and, incredibly, stayed on the Country album charts for more than ten years.

Horace Parlan

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Horace Parlan had a great knack in selecting musicians for his Blue Note sessions; some regular collaborators, other times - mix and match. This June 1961 date is no exception. The set showcases a fine balance of hard bop and soul-jazz with just the right amount of blues thrown in. Leading the charge in Booker Ervin's tenor and guitarist Grant Green. Filling it out are drummer Al Harewood, George Tucker's bass as well as Parlan's pianistics. Six new tunes including charts by Parlan (title tune), Ervin ("The Book's Beat"), Tucker ("Fugee"), Green ("The Other Part Of Town") plus "Light Blue" by Stanley Turrentine, allow everyone plenty of time and space to have their say and then bring it home.

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy And The Freedom Sessions
Sarah McLachlan
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
From the heavy dance beats of the opening single, Possession, to the more delicate Good Enough, McLachalan explores self-awareness and sensuality in ways unrivaled by her previous efforts. Lush arrangements back her powerful vocals to build a highly rewarding album.
"Most of the songs on 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' began as acoustic pieces. Early on in the recording process we thought about putting out two records: one record of the original acoustic songs and another with more produced and/or layered songs. In time, one version usually presented itself to be the stronger or just more interesting in its instrumentation and direction, whatever felt right at the time. I love the 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' recording and wouldn't change a thing, but I love these versions as reminders of where the songs started and of the various paths we wandered down to discover their identities. It was a joy watching them grow." - Sarah McLaughlin
An audiophile's dream come true! Exclusively licensed and packaged together for the first time, these two titles have divided audiophiles everywhere on their preference. It's a natural pair that now, as a set, can be compared in a 20-bit transfer. Limited Edition 200gm heavy weight vinyl in gatefold

A Scarcity of Miracles is a significant addition to the extended King Crimson family.
When Robert Fripp & Jakko Jakszyk got together in February 2009 neither expected that their initial sessions of guitaronly improvisations would result in a full-blown album, or that it would ultimately be deemed to be a King Crimson projeKct. As the material from those first sessions developed it was obviously becoming much wider in scope and
scale. The arrival of sax player & former King Crimson member, Mel Collins, added further colour & texture to the
emerging songs. The line-up was completed with the addition of bassist Tony Levin and Porcupine Trees drummer,
Gavin Harrison (both members of the 2008 incarnation of King Crimson) adding their parts to the material in their
respective studios.

One Little Indian's Direct Metal Masters Reissue Series!
Originally released in 1984, The Eye, was the debut album of the Icelandic post-punk group K.U.K.L. which featured Bjork and Einar Orn (pre-Sugacubes). The music here ranges widely from the wild, grotesque and deconstructionist punk rock of "Assassin" and "Seagull" to the almost danceable rhythm and church-like bells of "Dismembered" and several moments of exotic, oriental-styled fare.
For all the audiophiles out there One Little Indian is reissuing 38 classic albums using the newest technology in vinyl manufacturing; Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering. Your chance to pick up classic One Little Indian albums in the most lavish vinyl format available.

1986's Holidays in Europe, was the third and final album released by the Icelandic post-punk group K.U.K.L. featuring Bjork and Einar Orn (pre-Sugacubes). This album was more complex in comparison to the The Eye, with the folksy and pseudo-oriental flutes, bells and pipes of that previous album abandoned in favor of keyboards and samples here.

 Tea For The Tillerman (200g)

Ranked 206/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
This title is not eligible for discount.
When word got out that we were beginning a pressing plant, customers began to call with questions. And the most common and full-of-anticipation question was inevitably: What will be the first title that you press? Well, we couldn't possibly imagine hitting a bigger home run than to open Quality Record Pressings (QRP) with one of the all-time most classic audiophile records, Cat Stevens' Tea for the Tillerman from 1970.
There are so many things perfect about this release. First and foremost, it's a masterpiece of a record. It's that rare record that couples breathtaking sound with hit after hit after hit. In fact, to list the hits would be to list the entire song list. We couldn't pick a better vehicle for which to show off what we're so confident will be the highest quality records ever pressed.
But here's something else that's cool: We scored the absolute original analog masters, and the tapes were in impeccable condition. It took an unbelievable amount of digging and research - and luck - to get this project done to the standards of Analogue Productions. But, wow, was it ever worth it! The tapes were last used in December 1999 when Ted Jensen at Sterling, along with producer Paul Samwell-Smith, remastered the Cat Stevens catalog for CD.
In 1970, Lee Hulko at Sterling Sound cut Tea For The Tillerman for A&M Records in the U.S. and Island Records in the UK using a Telefunken M10 tape machine and a Neumann VMS 66 lathe with a Neumann SX68 cutterhead. Hulko started Sterling in 1968 and was its original mastering engineer. He's considered among the first engineers to advance mastering from just transferring music from tape to lacquer to an art where attention is paid to all the details that result in better sound. We actually found Hulko's original mastering notes from more than 40 years ago. It's incredible, but Sterling still has all of their notes filed away.
So, it was originally cut at Sterling - as were all of the early original Cat Stevens albums - and the tapes were last used at Sterling. How appropriate then that we should go back to Sterling for this monumental reissue. Using the original tapes, George Marino handled the mastering this time. He used an Ampex ATR-102 tape machine, another significant point of interest. While Ampex has long been revered for their sound, they had never made a preview version so that a mastering engineer could cut a lacquer from an Ampex machine. Mike Spitz at ATR Services made a unique preview modification for Sterling so that they could cut this record using an Ampex. Marino then used a Neumann VMS 80 lathe with a Neumann SX 74 cutterhead.
"I think we've gotten something quite a bit better than what was originally issued," Marino says. "I think this version is much more representative of what was on the tape. And that's not a criticism of what was originally done."
Marino points out that since the original issue, there have been advancements in cutting lathe technology that make the improvements of this reissue possible.
"You didn't have the same number of options that you have in the new Neumann electronics," Marino says. "With the new one, they give you more variations to work with. Let's say there's a nice kind of present sounding acoustic guitar on the left channel and then all of the sudden there's a drum peak with cymbal crashes and stuff and that stuff happens to be on the left channel. Being the vocal is down the center, you can drive the high frequency limiter from the right channel. So you can set a threshold on the right channel and grab the vocal without wiping out some of the musical peaks on the left channel. This is what I talk about when I say that we have technical advantages that they didn't have."
Marino also chose to use a wide-track stereo head for this project, which he said allows for better signal-to-noise than the normal stereo head.
And he also decided against using tube electronics, as would have been used originally, because he says that while the tubes allowed for more warmth, they also made the sound duller.
"You wind up wanting to put a little top-end EQ or something to get a little something back (when using tubes)," Marino explains of his decision.
Marino says that he is very pleased with the results.
"A great record. A classic," he says. "And those tapes were in excellent, excellent condition. Musically, I think we've got something that sounds richer and more natural. It sounds more correct. I had to do very, very little to the tape regarding EQ processing or anything."
To package this reissue, we've decided to do a facsimile of the original British Island gatefold jacket rather than the non-gatefold U.S. version. This British jacket also has a textured paper stock on the inside and is glossy on the outside. Additionally, we're using the original pink Island label.
So there you have it. Quality Record Pressings is off and pressing in a big, big way! Finally, we're ready to unveil the innovations in record pressing that we've been working on for more than a year. Among those innovations are the installations of microprocessors on the presses so that all of the presses functions are performed with absolute precision. For example, we've developed a dye with an imbedded temperature sensor that we can use to cycle the presses. Rather than having the presses close and open based on time - as it's been to date - these presses will close and open based on temperature, the far more accurate indicator of when the record is ready. We also have a plating department in Quality Record Pressings, run by the best plating man in the business, Gary Salstrom.
Still to come from Analogue Productions pressed at Quality Record Pressings will be the Cat Stevens classics Teaser and the Firecat and Catch Bull at Four.
Tea For The Tillerman is one of Cat Stevens' finest albums and a gem in the crown of early 1970s singer/songwriterdom. Stevens manages to have his cake and eat it too, simultaneously achieving pop accessibility and artistic relevance. The feel is decidedly gentle and spare. Apart from the occasional string section, Stevens is accompanied only by a three-piece band as he sings his introspective lyrics with appreciable favor.

Peter Gabriel
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Peter Gabriels Scratch My Back album project is the first part of a series of song exchanges in which Gabriel and other leading artists reinterpret each others songs. To help craft his recording of the albums eclectic array of cult favorites and classic tracks, Gabriel enlisted former Durutti Column member John Metcalfe, composer, arranger and the expertise of producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd's The Wall/Lou Reed's Berlin) and engineer, mixer and producer Tchad Blake (Suzanne Vega, Sheryl Crow, Tom Waits). Gabriel describes this as a very personal record with twelve songs performed only with orchestral instruments and voice. He made the choice not to include guitar or drums. The albums richly diverse sounds include the sparse romance of Lou Reed's The Power of the Heart, the powerful musical journey of David Bowies Heroes and an epic arrangement of Arcade Fires My Body Is A Cage. Gabriel and his collaborators recorded the album at George Martins Air Lyndhurst Studios and the Real World Temple with further editing and mixing at his own Real Worlds Studio in Wiltshire.

 Getting Ready...
Freddy King
$24.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Freddie King is easily one of the most influential blues guitarists of his or any generation. Any blues enthusiast or guitar aficionado would have him ranked high on their list of all-time greats. He was a guitar hero before there was "Guitar Hero".
Getting Ready... was King's first of three releases for Shelter Records, Leon Russell's Tulsa-based label. In fact, when Russell first formed Shelter, he reportedly did so partly to play out his vision of recording one of his favorites, Freddie King.
Recorded in October 1970 at the TER-MAR Chess Studios in Chicago and released in 1971, Getting Ready... is proof positive that King was the man and that Shelter Records was one cool label. The record includes a cover of Jimmy Rogers' classic "Walking By Myself" and King references Rogers also in the lyrics of another track on the record, "Living On The Highway". Rogers was the first artist to record for Acoustic Sounds' own APO Records label and the first to appear in concert at Acoustic Sounds' Blue Heaven Studios.
More APO and Blue Heaven tie-ins to Freddie King include Jimmie Lee Robinson, who while living was the veritable soul of APO and Blue Heaven. When King moved from Texas to Southside Chicago around 1950, he formed his first ever band, The Every Hour Blues Boys, with Robinson.
The backing band for Getting Ready... includes the stud cast of Leon Russell on piano and guitars, Duck Dunn on bass, Don Preston on guitar, Jon Gallie on organ, Chuck Blackwell on drums and Charles Myers on drums.
Getting Ready is among the first titles to be pressed at Acoustic Sounds' Quality Record Pressings.

Backing artists include many musicians who played with Eric Clapton in the 1970s. Clapton has stated many times over that Freddie King was among his chief influences. Supporting musicians include Leon Russell on piano, Carl Radle and Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass, Jim Gordon, Chuck Blackwell and Al Jackson on drums, Don Preston on guitar and John Gallie on organ.

That rich, humid, giant sax tone blooms like on few other Webster recordings.
"...Webster's trademark sensual sound is on full display and, of course, he's backed by Montoliu, an outstanding Spanish piano veteran who accompanied all the great jazz artists passing through Europe...This is one of the first releases by Analogue Productions pressed at their new in-house pressing plant Quality Record Pressings, and the record bears a close resemblance in appearance to records from Pallas - beautiful looking and perfectly quiet...The superb 200-gram LP comes in a rice paper sleeve and jacket of heavy cardboard...Highest Recommendation." Recording = 10/10; Music = 8.5/10 - Dennis D. Davis, Hi-Fi+, Issue 81
This recording was made 10 months before Ben Webster's death in 1972. Webster, who had left the United States in 1965 to settle in Europe - first in Copenhagen and then in Amsterdam - was visiting fellow musician and friend Tete Montoliu in Barcelona. Webster and pianist Montoliu went back a ways, having played together regularly in Webster's Copenhagen days. In fact, Montoliu cited Webster and Don Byas as his two chief musical influences. Webster and Montoliu understood each other deeply, and their comfort with on another is palpable in this recording. Their accompaniment of one another is seamless. On board with these two is Montoliu's regular working trio-mates, Eric Peter on bass and Peer Wyboris on drums.
There's no shortage of Webster's trademark breathy, fat tenor tone here. In fact, given the sparse arrangement, that rich, humid, giant sax blooms like on few other recordings. Highlights include "Ben's Blues," "Sweet Georgia Brown," "The Man I Love" and "Don't Blame Me."

A longtime student of jazz piano history, Dick Hyman has previously recorded the works of Eubie Blake, Jelly Roll Morton, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington and other early jazz pianists. His interests extend to other areas as well, and in a varied career he continues to be a composer, conductor, arranger and organist. He has provided scores for numerous film and television programs and has performed or arranged for countless recording sessions both under his own name and in support of other artists. Mr. Hyman has composed film scores for Moonstruck and various Woody Allen vehicles, as well as original scores for leading dance companies.
Some of the greatest jazzmen who lived and played through the Swing Era have been brought together once again, perhaps for the last time. Dick Hyman arranged groups of four, five and seven, and Prof. Keith Johnson recorded them in a concert hall with great acoustics. Everyone loved the chance to play together just like the good old days, to listen and balance naturally. There were no "booths" nor earphones anywhere.

 Homemade Ice Cream
Tony Joe White
$24.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Originally released in 1973, Homemade Ice Cream is the sixth album released by Tony Joe White. Features "Did Somebody Make a Fool Out of You".
You may or may not know of Tony Joe White, but we all know his two most famous songs - "Polk Salad Annie" and "Rainy Night In Georgia." This record is up to the standards of those great numbers. So soulful, humid, rich and textured. Or as Tony Joe would say, "It's swampy."
The last four songs on side two of this album are going to positively floor you. They are so sparse and bluesy and emotional. And the sound is as good as the music. With this new QRP pressing, the sound is so good it's tape-like. So solid and jet-black is the foundation from which the music just jumps. Ya gotta hear it to understand what we're trying to describe. It's one of those jaw-hit-the-floor, sit-in-stunned-silence, goose-bump-raising, tears-in-your-eyes records. You know, the kind we're all looking for as audiophiles?
Homemade Ice Cream was originally released in 1973 on Warner Bros. and was co-produced by White and legendary Atlantic producer Tom Dowd. It's White's sixth overall record and his third for Warner Bros. This is very much a back porch acoustic affair. The music has the space to breathe, one of the reasons for the life-like sound.

 Roots
Jimmy Witherspoon
$24.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Somehow this 1961 Reprise title seems to have escaped the audiophile must-have list. It's a true hidden classic and an incredibly warm recording. The small combo setting really allows these two heavyweights, Jimmy Witherspoon and Ben Webster ,to shine. The mood is laid-back and down-home. Accompanying musicians include trumpeter Gerald Wilson, pianist Ernie Freeman, bassist Ralph Hamilton and drummer Jim Miller. Roots was recorded at the often underrated or forgotten Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California. The studio, built in 1929, was one of the truly great - and great-sounding - studios of its day with an unbelievable discography of classics to its name.
Includes "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" and "I'm Gonna move To the Outskirts of Town".
Jimmy Witherspoon made his first records with Jay McShann's band in 1945. Four years later, he would record under his own name with the McShann band and produced his first hit "Ain't Nobody's Business".

Best known for her classic song, "Killing Me Softly" which was featured on her 1972 self-titled debut, Lori Lieberman has gone on to record a number of albums for Capitol Records, Pope Music and Drive On Records. Lieberman's early musical history formed in the '70s on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip and the West Coast club scene circuit that included singer/songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and the Eagles.
Originally released on CD for Drive On Records in 2009, Gun Metal Sky marked Lori Lieberman's debut as an arranger for strings and woodwinds. While most of the songs are self-penned, the collection also includes unique and interesting versions of songs from some of our most beloved songwriters, including Emmylou Harris, Paul Simon, The Bee Gees and The Hollies.

Small jazz groups brought out the best in Billie Holiday - especially groups as good as the one heard on this classic 1957 recording. Ben Webster, Harry "Sweets" Edison and the other members of this stellar ensemble were not just gifted soloists but sensitive accompanists as well. Lady Day was rarely more ably supported than she was on this program of sturdy standards, including three gems by the Gershwin brothers -and she rarely sounded more luminous.

When Jim Davis started producing records at Verve, he changed the company's recording philosophy toward its most prolific instrumentalist. Where Norman Granz had produced countless Oscar Peterson albums dedicated to the popular song, Davis was more interested in making albums closer to how the Peterson trio sounded live. His first Peterson records were the legendary London House sessions. By the time of this album, there had been no personnel change in the trio for five years - so it is no surprise that the rapport among the musicians here is telepathic.

 Live In Concert
Ray Charles
$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In the half-century between his earliest recordings in the 1950s and his death in 2004, Ray Charles ascended to icon status by leaving his mark on virtually every form of American popular music that emerged in the latter half of the 20th century. Nowhere was this more evident than in his live performances, where one was likely to hear shades of blues, soul, R&B, jazz, gospel, country and more in a single evening - indeed, sometimes in a single song. To put it simply, the Right Reverend did it all.
All of these subtle shades and styles are evident on Ray Charles Live In Concert. Originally released by ABC-Paramount in early 1965, Live In Concert captured Ray at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in September 1964. "There could be no more uplifting live musical experience than digging Ray Charles and his mighty orchestra in their prime," says roots music historian Bill Dahl. Indeed, the 15-piece orchestra backing Ray on this date - assembled just a few years earlier in 1961 - boasted no less than a dozen horns, including formidable saxophonists David "Fathead" Newman, Hank Crawford and Leroy "Hog" Cooper, all of whom had been with Ray since his days as a leader of smaller combos.
A huge piece of the Ray Charles legacy is his mastery of any style he touched, and his ability to make it his own in a way that no other artist could - powers that can only come from an innate sense of adventure and spontaneity that are fully evident in Ray Charles Live In Concert.
Recorded by Wally Heider, a true on-location recording legend.

Legendary Rudy Van Gelder Recording
Cut From The Original Analog Masters - Tape Boxes Included Notes In Braille
This is the second title in the Impulse catalog.
Ray Charles was best known for his work in the idioms of R&B, rock 'n' roll and even successful forays into country. But he also recorded influential jazz albums, including the groundbreaking Genius + Soul = Jazz originally released in 1961. Recorded at the Van Gelder Studios in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, in late 1960, Genius + Soul = Jazz was produced by Creed Taylor and includes arrangements by Quincy Jones and Ralph Burns. Ray Charles played the organ with three vocals ("I've Got News For You," "I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town" and "One Mint Julep") and band members included members of the Count Basie Orchestra: Thad Jones, Joe Newman, Billy Mitchell, Frank Wess, Freddie Green and Sonny Payne among others.
The record ascended to the No. 4 spot on Billboard's pop album chart and spawned the very first singles on Impulse. "I've Got News For You" rose to No. 8 R&B and No. 66 on the Hot 100. In addition, Charles' version of "One Mint Julep" charted No. 1 R&B and No. 8 pop and his rendition of the blues standard "I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town" reached No. 25 R&B and No. 84 pop.
Although Basie himself does not appear on the album, the Count was a major model as Charles assembled a full-scale, working orchestra. Basie also influenced his use of organ in a jazz context, and Charles was happy to record at the Van Gelder studio, where Jimmy Smith had recorded his classic Blue Note albums. Truly, as Dick Katz wrote in his original January 1961 liner notes, "The combination here of rare talent plus uncommon craftsmanship has produced a record that showcases the timeless quality an innate taste that is uniquely that of Ray Charles."

 Reckoning
Grateful Dead
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Cut From the Original Analog Masters and Pressed on 200g Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings
In the fall of 1980, the Grateful Dead purposefully played a series of shows at two venues, the Warfield Theater in San Francisco and Radio City Music Hall in New York City, that were considerably smaller than the stadiums and arenas they were, by that point, regularly selling out. They did so with the express interest of recording in an intimate space the opening portion of each show, a stripped-down acoustic set featuring Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir playing acoustic guitars, Brent Mydland playing piano, drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart playing reduced kits and bassist Phil Lesh turning his electric volume down considerably.
The group chose a set list of classic folk and country tunes mixed with their originals and Reckoning is a very obvious ode to the band's early 1960s origins of folk, bluegrass and country. These are the sounds from which this whole long, strange trip was born, and Garcia in particular shines radiantly here.
The sound, as with all records that are stripped to their bare essentials and rid of an overcrowded electric set, is right up there with the very best the Dead ever released. This is also the record for those on-the-fence fans that could do without the wandering-away-from-the-pocket sound that characterized much of the Dead's music. The songs here are tight and compact while still remaining dynamically delicate.

 Terrapin Station
Grateful Dead
$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Cut From the Original Analog Masters and Pressed on 200g Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings
Terrapin Station, originally released in 1977, marked the Grateful Dead's first studio album in two years and their return to a major label, in this case Arista Records. The band hired an outside producer for just the second time here, using Keith Olsen, a former member of the '60s garage rock band Music Machine.
Highlights abound and include the title suite that extends to cover all of side B, as well as the disco-like reworking of the Martha & The Vandellas hit "Dancin' In The Streets," the Rev. Gary Davis cover of "Samson and Delilah" and the classic "Estimated Prophet."
The release, like the band, is a beautiful amalgamation of styles, with rock, funk, disco and strains of reggae. As their ninth studio effort overall, Terrapin Station has a decidedly tighter and more cohesive feel than the live material for which the band became legendary. All the same, it's unmistakable classic Dead all the way, and in fact much of the material from this record has become live staples to this day.

1. Estimated Prophet
2. Dancin' In The Streets
3. Passenger
4. Samson And Delilah

 Tubular Bells
Mike Oldfield

MIKE OLDFIELD's TUBULAR BELLS: A quintessential "studio production" in pop music lore, Mike Oldfield conceived an eclectic mix of both standard and odd instruments, along with classical and rock elements, to achieve a steadily building, layered texture, totally unheard of at the time. After being shopped and rejected at other labels, Richard Branson chose it as the first release for his Virgin Records in 1972. Originally tagged with the working title Opus 1, Oldfield, who had been playing and recording professional since his teens, oversaw the entire production and played most of the parts himself, eventually layering over thirty different instruments and sounds. Listeners had fun trying to identify each and remember the order they appeared, as the late Vivian Stanshall (Bonzo Dog Band) ceremoniously announced each as it joined the mix. The original LP eventually sold over 16 million copies and topped the UK charts for weeks. The eerie opening section was famously featured in the soundtrack to the motion-picture The Exorcist, winning the Grammy in 1974 for Best Instrumental Composition. The original master tapes were used to cut both the original issue and this reissue making the original issue hard to best. With Chris Bellman doing the mastering honors using Classic's "all tube" cutting system and being pressed on Classic's proprietary Super Vinyl Profile sheds new light on, and a slight nod to the Classic reissue of, this longstanding audiophile favorite.

Bob Dylan Live Albert Hall 1966 (200 Gram)
Bob Dylan
$89.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
The most famous bootleg in rock history, with the possible exception of Dylan's own Basement Tapes finally made its official appearance 32 years after the event, and nearly 30 years after it started circulating in the underground. Although often identified as a Royal Albert Hall show, this May 17, 1966, concert, in which Dylan played electric material in front of a British audience, was actually recorded in Manchester (hence the unwieldy title with quotes around Royal Albert Hall). Even those who've owned this recording for many a year should be tempted by this official package, as it has been expanded to include the eight electric rock songs from the original bootleg, but also the seven solo acoustic performances that comprised the first half of the show. It's all in great fidelity. More importantly, the electric half in particular is an important document of rock history. It captures the point at which Dylan was at his most controversial and hard rocking as he blazes through mid-'60s classics such as Like a Rolling Stone and Ballad of a Thin Man, radical electric arrangements of songs that had originally been recorded acoustically (One Too Many Mornings, I Don't Believe You), and the hard rocker Tell Me, Momma, which Dylan never recorded in the studio. On top of everything else there's a 56-page booklet with a fine essay by Dylan's friend Tony Glover (a notable folk musician in his own right). This is not just an interesting adjunct to Dylan's '60s discography; it's as worthy of attention as anything else he recorded during that decade. Originally, transferred from the 1/2 analog mix down masters and cut on Classic's all tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman and released on 180g Classic vinyl, this re-release is the first time this, long out of print Classic Record, has been on 140g vinyl as well our proprietary 200 gram Super Vinyl Profile making it sound better than ever!

 No Direction Home (200 Gram)
Bob Dylan
$99.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 4 LPs Box Set Sealed
|
The seventh volume of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series doubles as the soundtrack to No Direction Home, Martin Scorseses's feature-length documentary covering Dylan's career from its beginnings to 1966 (it was aired in two parts on PBS in September 2005 and released in expanded form on DVD that same month). Unlike the previous three installments of The Bootleg Series, which focused exclusively on live concerts, No Direction Home is assembled from a variety of sources, including home recordings, publishing demos, alternate studio takes, and live recordings, with the first disc devoted to early acoustic recordings and the second to electric music. In fact, No Direction Home proceeds chronologically, filling in gaps between the proper albums or, more often, providing a parallel history of the most productive era of Dylan's career. All of this material -- with the exception of Song to Woody, taken from his debut, and a cataclysmic version of Like a Rolling Stone taken from the Royal Albert Hall show that was released as Bob Dylan Live '66 -- is previously unreleased, and much of it has not been widely bootlegged (and the cuts that have been bootlegged, such as Dink's Song, have never been heard in such crystal-clear fidelity). Where the inaugural edition of The Bootleg Series had many previously unreleased Dylan originals, there is only one here, the tentative opener, When I Got Troubles, a sweet, simple 1959 song that finds Dylanin his formative stage. In place of unheard songs are a slew of alternate versions of familiar tunes. On the first two LP's, these are largely live versions of such warhorses as Blowin' in the Wind, Masters of War, and A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall, recorded when the songs were still fresh. These live performances have an immediacy and intimacy that not only illustrate what a powerful folksinger Dylan was, but also suggest how the songs might have sounded when they were new tunes. Toward the end of the second LP, alternate versions that are significantly different from the final versions begin to surface with an early take on Mr. Tambourine Man recorded at the Another Side of Bob Dylan sessions with Ramblin' Jack Elliott on second guitar and backing vocals. The third and fourth LP's contain several alternates that are similarly notably different, highlighted by a lively, careening It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry with a different final verse, a Desolation Row with electric guitar, Highway 61 Revisited without the siren whistle, a slower, heavier, blusier take on Leopard-Skin Pill Box Hat, a relaxed version of Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again that lacks the carnivalesque swirl of sound from the Blonde on Blonde version, and a lean, insistent Visions of Johanna.
Everything here is uniformly excellent and worth hearing well more than once. That alone, of course, would make this yet another worthwhile addition to any serious Dylan collection, but what makes No Direction Home noteworthy as an album is that it is the first Dylan record to offer an aural biography of Dylan. This does a superb job of tracing the development of Dylan as a musician, taking him from a young folkie singing standards, through the rush of his early standards, and to the visionary music he made once he went electric. Put in this context, the electric music on the third and fourth LP's sounds as bracing and brilliant and surprising as it did in the '60s, while the acoustic folk on LP's one and two sounds vibrant, pure, and alive. After all these years, that's a hard accomplishment to pull off, and to the credit of everybody involved in this terrific release, they've been able to make even the most familiar Dylan tunes feel new again.
As usual, this deluxe edition comes from the original mix down masters and was transferred by Bernie Grundman to lacquer on on Classic's all tube analog cutting system. This deluxe 4-LP set includes two alternate cover art gatefold jackets (Blonde on Blonde and Bringing it all Back Home), a 60+ page 12 x12 booklet all housed in an a special outer box.

Outside of Paul Chambers, who was employed as Miles Davis's bassist at this time, all of the other players on these April 1957 RVG Hackensack dates were leaders of their own renowned groups; a reflection of the respect they all shared for the date leader, Sonny Rollins. Besides Chambers, with J.J. Johnson on trombone, Art Blakey behind the drums and alternating pianists Thelonious Monk and Horace Silver, who both play on the now-famous version of "Misterioso," the words All-Star seem almost demeaning to this conclave. The resulting recordings burst forth with confidence and enthusiasm, capturing a fire and passion usually found only with uninhibited live dates and not the constraints of a recording studio. Exceptional versions of "Poor Butterfly" and "You Stepped Out Of a Dream" elevate this record to monumental status. Mastered and cut on an all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie Grundman. Continuing where his debut left off, Morgans second LP in 1956 as a leader for Blue Note, finds the teen prodigy (still only 18) slowly emerging out from the long shadow of his idol and mentor Clifford Brown and feeling his own way among giants. You can hear his confidence growing in his solos, energized and fed by the company he has been keeping rather than any intimidation or hesitation at all. Excellent ensemble work must be credited to Benny Golson, who arranged four of the six numbers on the date. Led by a three-horn assault of Morgans trumpet, BN regular Hank Mobley on tenor and the fairly obscure altoist Kenny Rodgers, they cruise through a variety of tempos and moods, the highlights being their memorable takes on Whisper Not and Where Am I? As expected, Horace Silvers piano, Paul Chambers bass and the drumming of Charlie Persip ! is both impeccable and tasteful throughout. Other selections include Latin Hangover, His Sister, Ds Funk and Slightly Hep Extremely hep is more like it. Mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman on Classic's ALL TUBE PURE MONO cutting system (not like others who
use a stereo cutting head which imparts crosstalk onto the groove cut) and pressed onto 200 gram QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile for maximum fidelity. Beauty & Crime
Suzanne Vega
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Beauty and Crime is possibly Suzanne Vega’s best effort since her debut album and likely even better than the highly acclaimed “Solitude Standing”.
“Beauty and Crime is a lengthy meditation on the city of New York, the place she calls home. These songs glide like a harlequin's ghost through the hearts and minds of city residents past and present, on its streets, in its hotels, apartments, in every corner of the city. There is more than the hint of memory on Beauty & Crime. The album is dedicated to the memory of Tim, who lived on "Ludlow Street" -- the name of the set's second cut, a searing and simply moving tribute to him -- and cites as muses in part "...Edith Wharton and all her heroines...and Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner for their passion," and who have songs named for them here. In doing so, 9/11 itself cannot be left out of the equation, and the album's final two cuts deal with personal versions of this story, one of which is informed by her brother-in-law Angel Ruiz, a New York City cop stationed at Ground Zero after the attacks on the World Trade Center. Most of these songs look at life in the interim, or remembering what the city was like in the '70s as on the cut "Zephyr and I."??Musically, this is easily her most adventurous record ever; yet it is also more accessible than any album since her debut. The craft and care put into the songs themselves and their articulation by Vega and producer Jimmy Hogarth are amazing. Here, emotions are laid bare in places whether in the first, second, or third persons, but they are always placed inside elegant yet spare lyrics that are taut, poetic, and evocative. The dreamy soundscape contains layers of guitars, percussion (organic, electronic and live, in one case) strings, reeds, brass, and backing singers (including daughter Ruby Froom who appears on a couple of cuts, and KT Tunstall who appears once). But it's the sound of Vega's acoustic guitar on all these songs that is unmistakably at the top and provides the album's anchor. It's important to note this, simply because it keeps these beautiful pop songs rooted in a new kind of contemporary folk that Vega was a pioneer of in the '80s. And it keeps her rooted to her own catalog, from the beginning to the present. In other words, as she has experimented in the past with all kinds of sounds, she has forever remained herself and never more so than here, whether it's the jazzy, faux bossa nova of "Pornographer's Dream" or its predecessor, the stunning "New York Is a Woman." "Frank and Ava," is a rocking pop tune whose electric and acoustic guitars entwine, seemingly kissing, wrapped around a bassline played by Tony Shanahan from the Patti Smith Group writes a reviewer from All Music Guide.”
Mixed by Tchad Blake and recorded at both Sear Sound in New York and Olympic Studios in London , the sound of this record is full of depth and nuance that every audiophile and music lover will love. Mastered and cut on Classic Records “All Tube” cutting system by Bernie Grundman, this LP release is a must have and not to be missed! Highest recommendation.

Shostakovitch Symphony no. 5 - Recorded on Oct 11th and 12th 1999 by the Elite Recording team of Marc Aubort and the late Joanna Nickrenz on behalf of Classic Records. This first in the series of Classic Records Presents features Pavel Kogan conducting his Moscow State Symphony Orchestra performing a piece of music they both know and well understand. The venue for the recording is the famous Congress House in Graz, Austria. The performance and the Elite recording are equally superb. Many argue that Russian Orchestral music is best performed by Russians and this performance lend credibility to that assertion. The recording was mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman using Classic's ALL TUBE analog cutting system and pressed on our proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile for maximum fidelity and musical pleasure.
Track Listing:
Band 1: First Movement - Moderato

 Blowin' The Blues Away (MONO)
The Horace Silver Quintet & Trio
$33.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed
|
Along with his Songs For My Father, Blowin The Blues Away constantly ranks as one of pianist Horace Silvers finest group of original compositions. For decades, only former band-mate in the original Jazz Messengers ensemble, Art Blakey, could match Silver in ears for talent and the feeding grounds their groups became, spawning players who later became jazz giants. The group assembled here is no exception. This exact line-up would eventually stay in-tack, becoming the incarnation of the first Blue Mitchell Quintet, with Chick Corea replacing Silver. The afore-mentioned Blue Mitchell along with Junior Cook on tenor, Gene Taylors bass and drummer Louis Hayes help Silver deliver a fine mix of tempos including the ballad Peace and the gospel/soul-tinged Sister Sadie, both of which became jazz standards. On The St. Vitus Dance and Melancholy Mood, Silver reverts back to his early trio days with confidence and imagination. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system from tape head to cutter head and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers.

Freddie Hubbard

|
On his first of many to come for Blue Note and what was also his album debut as a leader, trumpeter Hubbard at the tender age of twenty-two, made both a strong statement and lasting impression with Open Sesame. Its a stunning debut that finds a very interesting mix of cats joining in on old and new but always invigorating tunes, all. Fellow youngster Tina Brooks lends his tenor and fresh ideas (Hubbard would return the favor the following week by joining Brooks on his now infamous bar-setting True Blue session) to the quintet while fast-rising McCoy Tyner, soon off to become a key component of the classic John Coltrane Quartet, makes a rare Blue Note appearance as a supporting player, on piano. Sam Jones bass and Clifford Jarvis drumming blend perfectly, especially on Hubbards original Hubs Nub and the title tune plus a smokin version of All Or Nothing Or All. Mastered and cut on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and cutter head makes this the definitive version of this LP and possibly better than impossible to find original copies!

1. Open Sesame
2. But Beautiful
3. Gypsy Blue
4. All or Nothing at All

Villa Lobos:The Little Train Of The Caipira
Sir Eugene Goosens
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In 1960, David Hall, who wrote the original liner notes for this Everest 35MM recording had this to say about the Villa Lobos composition / Everest Recording: In recent years, hi-fi fans have delighted in the realistic recordings of big steam locomotives and other railway sounds. For some, it is more thrilling to have a fast freight roaring through the living room than to hear the music of Beethoven or Tchaikovsky. Here, though, is a tailor made for both the audiophile and music lover. With Everests startlingly lifelike sound, coupled with the vivid imagination of Villa-Lobos, you can hear a musical train come to life on your phonograph. The Little train of the Caipira was inspired by a ride that Villa-Lobos took in 1931 on a train that was transporting berry-pickers and farm laborers between villages in the Brazilian province of Sao Paolo. Within and hour he had completed the last movement (toccata) and that very night he and his wife played the movement on cello and piano.
Alberto Ginastera, Argentinas most celebrated composers, wrote Estancia, a one act Ballet in five movements, as a commissioned composition in 1941. It was not performed in ballet form, however, until 1952 in Buenos Aires. Panambi composed in 1936, and another ballet suite in five movements, is based on a South American Indian legend. Its primitive element is most spectacularly evident in the second movement which is scored for percussion and brass only and in the last movement Dance of the Warriors which works up to a tremendous final climax.
This Classic Records faithful reissue features original artwork and labels and includes an old style tip-on jacket to add a touch of authenticity. The lacquers were cut directly from the original 35MM tapes though Classics all tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman. Pressed on Classics 200g Super Vinyl Profile II ensures that the listener will hear ever nuance of this great Eugene Goossens /LSO recording by Bert Whyte. This is truly a golden age recording that will delight the train nuts and audiophiles alike.

 Ella & Louis (45 RPM)

Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound
The very fact that America's biggest jazz label called one of their albums quite simply Ella and Louis indicates that we are talking about something very special here. And surely enough has been said - "Satchmo" and the grande dame of jazz certainly need no further introduction. In the '50s just the mere mention of their forenames was enough to light up the eyes of jazz fans. A glance at the track list reveals that tranquility rules the day: wild stomps and improvised scats will neither be sought nor missed. Of prime importance to the jazz ballad is a feeling of "letting oneself drift" in the inspiration which gushes forth from the minds of genial American songwriters. This is no contest - for the artists all pursue a common goal with extreme sensitiveness. The background combo, made up of first-class musicians and led by Oscar Peterson, performs with great concentration and almost obtrusive unobtrusiveness. Verve's highly successful producer Norman Granz decided quite deliberately to make the recording in the studio instead of at a live session. And success has verified his judgment, for such vocal jazz knows only gentle tones - but the result is all the more intensive for that.
Originally released in 1956.

This is such a romantic album. Such a warm album. Such a rich album. And, ooh, the sound! Turn the lights down. Grab that special someone. Drop the needle. And as our Acoustic Sounds/Analogue Productions owner would say, "If nothing happens, don't blame the record!"
Originally released in 1961 on ABC-Paramount, Ray Charles and Betty Carter features startling dynamics, with Marty Paich's arrangements showcasing both punchy brass and lush strings. The showstopper, "Baby, It's Cold Outside," topped the R&B charts upon its release. And jazz singer Betty Carter's vocal prowess shines on "Cocktails For Two" and "Alone Together." Released as a second volume of recordings by Roulette Records from a 1961 summit between two jazz icons, after hearing this collaboration you'll wish they had recorded ten volumes. And wit the musical talent and knowledge between them, they could have! Using Armstrong's regulars plus Ellington at the piano (who performs exceptionally well, comping understatedly behind the vocals), the duo romps through seven of the Duke's most famous and popular compositions. And when Satchmo decides to blow, he leaves the Dixie clich? at home and shapes his solos perfectly into the tasteful arrangements. With Trummy Young on trombone and Barney Bigard on clarinet plus a rhythm section of Mort Herbert on bass and Danny Barcelona on drums, these recordings are a once-in-a-lifetime dream summit meeting that thank God producer Bob Thiele was brilliantly astute enough to arrange and capture on tape. Selections include It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), Solitude, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, I'm Beginning To See The Light, Just Squeeze Me, I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good) and Azalea.

 Folk Singer
Muddy Waters

Ranked 280/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Folk Singer has been an audiophile staple for years. It always gets a bunch of play at hi-fi shows. It's a no-doubter demonstration disc. But never before has it sounded like this! Never has it been cut at 45 RPM!
There are a handful of landmark albums in any genre. In the blues, one of them is Muddy Waters' Folk Singer. Originally released in 1964, Folk Singer was the only acoustic album Waters ever recorded, thus becoming the first and perhaps best blues concept album ever. Muddy of course started out playing acoustic blues in the Delta, and he's clearly very comfortable in this return to his roots, which was designed to appeal to the mid-1960s surge of interest in folk music.
Muddy's supporting cast includes a very young Buddy Guy on guitar, Willie Dixon at the upright bass and Clifton James on drums.
This recording has enormous presence with ample room for Muddy's booming voice to resonate.

1. My Home Is in the Delta
2. Long Distance Call
3. My Captain
4. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl
5. You're Gonna Need My Help

Who Are You (200 Gram) (NEW PRESSING)
The Who
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Sadly burdened with the trivia of being the last studio recording to feature drummer Keith Moon and thus closing the chapter on the band's original line-up, this 1978 release was also a major progression, not unlike what The Beatles and The Beach Boys undertook as they matured from their simple, rudimentary but still freakin' great early years.
In the three years since the release of Who By The Numbers, The Who foursome had undertaken solo projects and other individual interests. Finally reuniting after such an unusualy long hiatus, they recorded Who Are You between late 1977 and early '78, in a variety of London-area studios. Without a doubt, everyone in the world would have welcomed recycled Who akin to their first decade of hits. But simple, catchy rock riffs were to be superceded in more complex subjects and daring arrangements. Pete Townshend's observations of moving on and saying farewell (Sister Disco), the creative process (Guitar and Pen), FM radio and its banal recycled music (Music Must Change) and battles with alcohol (Who Are You) are some of his most poignant writings. Bassist John Entwistle contributes three songs, the most in any one Who album. 905, Had Enough and Trick Of The Light reflect some of his finest, often-overlooked, work.
The album peaked at No. 2 on the Pop chart in the U.S., most likely prevented from going No. 1 by to the Grease soundtrack. The lone single released, the title song Who Are You would become a concert staple, often expanded into a jam for Townshend's guitaristics, and then be licensed out in 2000 for the opening theme to the hit television show CSI: Crime Scene Investigations. This venerable Classic was re-mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood from the original analog master tapes provided by The Who.

3. 905
4. Sister Disco
5. Music Must Change

 Voltaic
Bjork
$24.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP + CD - Sealed

Volta had been designed, Björk has said, as a journey, with the sound of fog horns and clanging bells linking individual tracks and artists from around the world making guest appearances, including Congolese band Konono No. 1, Malian kora player Toumani Diabaté, pipa virtuoso Wu Man, beat-master Timbaland, Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale and sublime chanteur Antony Hegarty. The New York Times called it a 21st-century assemblage of the computerized and the handmade, the personal and the global.
Voltaic, then, is a remarkable, multi-media document of what happened after the record was completed, a journey of a different sort as the ever-evolving singer assembled her live band, made a collection of typically amazing videos and one-step-ahead remixes, and toured the world for two years, making headline appearances at diverse venues and large festivals, including Glastonbury, Coachella and even Harlems Apollo Theatre. She recorded the Voltaic live album in one take at Olympic Studio in London with her new band, prior to her 2007 Glastonbury appearance, presenting the set she would play on tour, songs from Volta and new arrangements of such older material as Pagan Poetry, All Is Full Of Love and a thunderous version of Army Of Me. Its a stunning performance, featuring cutting-edge computer technology, an old-school horn section and a female, ag-toting Icelandic choir.
Volta, said the NME, was another amazing statement of intent full of hope, eccentricity and wonderfulness. Voltaic presents a fascinating abundance of evidence that, as the NME put it, theres still no one like her.

Production notes:
Clarity Vinyl represents the ultimate in vinyl formulations because it is comprised of over 90% percentage of the highest quality co-polymer available - a key component in vinyl pellets used for manufacturing vinyl records. Further, Clarity Vinyl has no carbon black additive, common in vinyl formulas for LPs. Carbon Black contains trace metals that become magnetized and cause electrical distortions in cartridges during playback that smears the sound. By taking out the Carbon Black, Classic Records is able to dramatically reduce the electrical distortions and thus bring more Clarity to the playback process, providing a more realistic musical experience to the listener and LP enthusiast.

Nowhere in recorded form have these orchestral colors been captured with such startling fidelity in large part due to the efforts of Everest as a pioneer in the art of 35MM magnetic tape recording under the supervision of Bert Whyte. These Prokofiev 5th sessions were recorded in 1959 at Walthamstow Town Assemby Hall, London (location of many Wilkinson / Decca recordings) with Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting the London Symphony and directly onto 3 channels of 35MM magnetic tape. The original edited 3 track 35MM master tapes were used for this historic project of remastering for the Classic Everest 35MM LP and HDAD Series. Using a specially modified Ampex 1551, with Len Horowitz running the tape machine, Bernie Grundman does the honors of transferring to lacquer these 45+ year old gems of recorded history. For the first time ever LP lovers can hear what was captured onto those tracks all those years ago in amazing fidelity and with a Presence that is lost in most recordings. Not to be missed!

Ranked 454/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound
The original master tapes for this title had not been used since 1980 previous to this reissue. Also, for this Analogue Productions reissue the decision was made to master and present this album as it was originally mixed to master tape. With very few exceptions all versions of this title to date, including the original, have had the channels incorrectly reversed. With this version, you'll hear this title as it was intended to be heard, without the channels reversed. And again, those reissues you've heard up until now - definitely still breathy, warm and rich - were made from something less than the master. Prepare to hear the veil removed.
Astrud Gilberto says that her husband, Joao, informed Stan Getz that she "could sing at the recording." Creed Taylor recalls that it took Getz's wife, Monica, to get both Astrud and Joao into the recording studio; Mrs. Getz had a sense that Astrud could make a hit. And Getz himself is on record saying that he insisted on Astrud's presence over the others' objections. So who's right? What does it matter? The Gilbertos, Getz and the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim followed up the bossa nova success of Jazz Samba with this, the defining LP of the genre. With one of the greatest hit singles jazz has ever known - each one who hears it goes "Ahhh!"

 By Numbers
The Who
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Having to follow four monumental releases in succession, The Who By Numbers is often overlooked and unfairly overshadowed. Produced again by Glyn Johns and released in 1975, the album is a more modest, simple affair, certainly withstanding the test of time by its own merits. In what might be his most personal tell-all collection (outside of some of his future solo albums), Pete Townshend lays it out there in lyrics of brutal honesty regarding battles with alcoholism and womanizing. Probably best known for the radio-friendly ditty Squeeze Box, the set also contains patented Who in the terms of Slip Kid, Blue Red and Grey plus one of bassist John Entwistles best compositions, Success Story. London studio regular Nicky Hopkins adds tasteful keyboard fills throughout. As part of the Classic Who LP reissue series, this title was mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original ¼ analog master tapes sourced directly from The Who. The lacquers were cut on Classic Records ALL ANALOG TUBE cutting system with LPs pressed on Classics Super Vinyl Profile for maximum playback fidelity. Authentic UK artwork and labels are meticulously reproduced making this another MUST HAVE Classic reissue!

DUE TO A PRESSING PLANT ERROR, A LIMITED INITIAL PRESSING ON “JEFF BECK GROUP” LP WILL BE ON 200 GRAM VINYL, AT SAME PRICE !!!
The new Jeff Beck Group LP on the Audio Fidelity “Target Series” label is part of the company’s midline series, which is normally 140/150gram vinyl and a few dollars less expensive. The label’s main line of premium pressings are on 180gram vinyl. (**Please note, that the “Target” series ONLY differs in vinyl weight and the sources are the same original masters used on their main line, and the mastering on both lines are done by either Kevin Gray or Steve Hoffmann, the top 2 mastering engineers on the planet).
The pressing plant made a mistake and pressed the Jeff Beck Group “Target” series on 200 GRAM vinyl!!! Audio Fidelity has never put out any 200 gram records before. As this was a mistake on their pressing plant, there will be NO change in pricing. BUT, only the initial pressing will be on this mistaken 200 gram vinyl. Further pressings will be 140/150 gram. So you are now getting a record at a midline price, but for a product that’s quality will surpass the standard premium line … WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!!
If you have not yet placed your order on the Jeff Beck Group LP, do so now to make sure you can get some of this rare collector’s item!!!
Mastered by Kevin Gray
Originally released in 1972, Jeff Beck Group was the fourth and final studio album for the legendary group. The band fully exploits the wildly unique instrumentation of Beck, a classical/jazz oriented pianist in Max Middleton, the soul/groove of Clive Chaman on bass, Cozy Powell's steady drumming and the expressive vocals of Bob Tench. This innovative music was way ahead of its time. The album features some of the most inspired lead playing of Beck's career.
Beck's guitar arrangements and performances are quite unlike anything from that era, a master pushing the creative envelope. His command of both right and left-hand techniques is truly awesome. The tracks feature multi-layered electric guitars, electric sitars, Beck's wah-wah touch, inspirational slide playing and two-hand tapping all beautifully performed and mixed. The tones he gets out of his guitar are unlike anything he had ever done.
The mid-tempo guitar driven blues of ''Ice Cream Cakes'' is the perfect album opener. The irresistible groove of ''Goin' Down'' has good slide and lead playing. ''Glad All Over'' is one of his all time best songs with sharp leads and great piano lines. The funky and jazzy ''Sugar Cane'' flat-out rocks, and ''Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You'' is a soulful Bob Dylan cover. Another cover, Don Nix's classic ''Going Down'' has nice vocals by Tench and Middleton's gospel-tinged intro is absolutely perfect. ''Highways'' is a slow blues song driven by Beck's amazing use of power chords and strange and exotic leads. Two instrumentals are featured on Jeff Beck Group, the quite lovely Ashford and Simpson tune, ''I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You'' and ''Definitely Maybe,'' one of his Beck's known songs, features a beautiful slide guitar and an emotional melody line accompanied by gorgeous harmonies.
Jeff Beck Group is a Jeff Beck showcase and one of the finest pieces of blues/rock in the history of the genre. Jeff Beck's truly inspired and creative playing is extraordinarily fluid and plain genius in a class of the top echelon of guitarists.
The record was produced by Steve Cropper of Booker T & The M.G.'s.

Shostakovich: Symphony #9/Prokofiev: Lt. Kije Suite
Sir Malcolm Sargent with The London Symphony Orchestra

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Sargent seems to have a real feel for these Russian Orchestral favorites. Both performances are in the Sargent tradition of a little slower in pace than
some of his contemporaries, however, as we all know faster is not always better. In this case the deliberate pace is very revealing of the glorious
intricacy of these classical gems. Refreshing interpretations by a top notch conductor with a world class orchestra in the heart of the golden age of recording- what more can an audiophile ask for? These EVEREST 35mm recordings by Bert Whyte at London's famed Walthamstom Assembly Hall are truly Majestic in their size and sense of orchestral realism mostly due to the high and low frequency detail and dynamics that are recordable only on 35mm film. In the words, of Len Horowitz from History of Recorded Sound 35mm has its own wisdom. It is hard to describe other than to say that there is something about the live event that 35mm can capture and recreate that you can't get from conventional tape formats - there is a certain retained magic with 35mm as this disc, like the rest will attest. The LP was cut DIRECTLY FROM THE 35mm MAGNETIC FILM using a vintage Westrex 1551 tape machine, with specially built playback electronics that are vastly superior to any others used on these machines to playback the original 35mm tapes. The Len Horowitz / History of Recorded Sound specially modified 1551, fitted with brand new playback heads matched to the revolutionary playback electronics was stationed at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood.
The LP's are pressed on Classic's 200g Super Vinyl Profile making it possible to get ever nuance out of the non-distorted grooves that make SVP
sound superior to all other records on the market today. Authentic tip on construction jackets with all original artwork and labels add to this must have deluxe LP edition! NOT TO BE MISSED!

The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Genesis
$59.99

Just Found! Very Limited!
Few albums, especially of this epic proportion, rival this magnificent production first released in 1974. In an era of over indulgent double LP efforts and "rock operas", "Lamb" was inspired by a trip to New York City by the band, resulting in the writing and production of what is considered not only the high point of the "Gabriel era" of Genesis, but also in one of the greatest rock albums, ever. Featuring extended passages showcasing the multi-instrumental talents of the band plus the prolific and expressive if sometimes weird and disturbing lyrics by Gabriel, it tells the saga of a NYC graffiti artist named Rael and his ultimate transformation. The album would be Gabriel's swan=song as a member and help launch a still on-going solo career. Featuring the original 2-LP artwork, the songs include Fly On A Windshield, Broadway Melody of 1974, Cuckoo Cocoon, In The Cage, The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging, Back In N.Y.C., Hairless Heart, Counting Out Time, Carpet Crawlers, The Chamber of 32 Doors, Lilywhite Lilith, The Waiting Room, Anyway, Here Comes the Supernatural Anaesthetist, The Laima, Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats, The Colony of Slippermen, Ravine, The Light Dies Down On Broadway, Riding the Scree, In The Rapids, It and of course the title tune.

 Selling England By The Pound
Genesis

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Just Found! Very Limited!
When this album was released in 1973 (the same year as the famed "Live" set), Genesis had become one of the fastest-rising groups on the pop scene. The band's blend of classical instincts, theatrical presentation, as well as whimsically complex and daring arrangements established them as leaders of the British progressive rock movement, along with fellow giants Yes, ELP, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and Jethro Tull. After returning to the studio, these talented musicians continued to labor and experiment. The result of their effort is Selling England by the Pound, considered by some to equal their masterpiece, Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. It was truly a group effort and is still widely-acknowledged as one of the great albums from the 1970s! And in what was perhaps a foreshadowing of things to come, drummer Phil Collins made his vocal debut here on the song, More Fool Me.

From the original 1964 Chess analog masters! Pressed at Quality Record Pressings!
Mastered by Bernie Grundman.
New Gatefold jacket, with extra photos!

 De Falla: The Three-Cornered Hat
Enrique Jorda
$39.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Manuel de Falla's famed 3 Cornered Hat is a hard piece to perform with the Latin sense of flair and excitement necessary to convey the wonder of the composition. Fiedler on RCA tries with some success to get the flair but is no equal for Argenta on London/Decca. The Jorda read with the London Symphony is electric from the first vocal burst! To say that Jorda owns this piece would not be an overstatement it is exciting and largely festive in the way de Falla intended it to be! Add to a fantastic performance the Bert Whyte/Everest 35mm recording at London's famed Walthamstow Assembly Hall, and you have a desert island disc.
This LP was cut directly from the 35mm magnetic film using a vintage Westrex 1551 tape machine, with specially built playback electronics that are vastly superior to any others used on these machines to playback the original 35mm tapes. The Len Horowitz/History of Recorded Sound specially modified 1551, fitted with brand new playback heads matched to the revolutionary playback electronics was stationed at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. With Len Horowitz running the playback machine and Bernie Grundman mastering from the three-track 35mm tapes, Classic Records has been able to cut the legendary sound and performances directly from the 35mm magnetic film through Classic's all-tube tape playback system. Authentic tip-on construction jackets with all original artwork and labels add to this must have deluxe LP edition.

 Casino Royale Soundtrack
Burt Bacharach
$99.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45RPM LP Box Set - 4 LPs Sealed

Classic Records' newest formulation: CLARITY SV-P II CLEAR VINYL!
The genesis of the new formula came as a result of a visit to High End Audio's self proclaimed Vinyl Guru Michael Fremer's Analog Laboratory. Mr. Fremer demonstrated a Furutech LP demagnetizer. After using the demagnetizer, vocals had so much more texture, bass definition and clarity of every nuance of the recording was vastly improved and there was more low level information than we had ever heard in the recording.
Why did the demagnetizer had the sonic effects on a record? Very simply the carbon black that is ADDED to vinyl for LP manufacture contains trace metals that become randomly magnetized and interfere electrically with the cartridge hanging overhead during play. So... if carbon black and the trace metals contained therein caused playback distortion in the cartridge then why not take out the carbon black altogether? Classic Records Clarity SV-P II Clear Vinyl is the answer!
Clarity Vinyl represents the ultimate in vinyl formulations because it is comprised of over 90% percentage of the highest quality co-polymer available - a key component in vinyl pellets used for manufacturing vinyl records. Further, Clarity Vinyl has no carbon black additive, common in vinyl formulas for LP's. Carbon Black contains trace metals that become magnetized and cause "electrical distortions" in cartridges during playback that smears the sound. By taking out the Carbon Black, Classic Records is able to dramatically reduce the "electrical distortions" and thus bring more "Clarity" to the playback process, providing a more realistic musical experience to the listener and LP enthusiast.
45 rpm records have long been recognized as providing a higher fidelity musical experience resulting purely from the cartridge being able to extract more of the nuance from the complex vertical and horizontal groove modulations in stereo LP's. Further, Classic Records 45 rpm "single sided" pressings dramatically reduce the mechanical resonances created by the cartridge during playback by allowing these resonances to be more fully transmitted to and absorbed by the turntable platter. Classic Records Clarity Vinyl 45 rpm pressings are designed and manufactured to provide the "LOWEST DISTORTION" in every aspect of LP playback resulting in putting the listener as close to the music as possible.
One of the most debated over and sought after audiophile titles, Casino Royale has graced many "Top Ten" lists for decades. This quirky soundtrack, to the equally zany James Bond spoof, features music and arrangements by the prolific and very hip Burt Bacharach. The highlight of the set is a breathy rendition of The Look of Love, by the late Dusty Springfield. The main theme and supporting incidental music are by Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass. The sound captured by the young engineer (but soon-to-be Super Producer, Phil Ramone) is still stunning, more than 30 years later.
This Four Discs 45rpm Box Set is now available for the first time on Classic Records Clarity Quiex SV-P 200g Vinyl.

 Just a Little Lovin'
Shelby Lynne
$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Originally released by Lost Highway Records in 2008, Just A Little Lovin' is Shelby Lynne's stirring, emphatic tribute to the late British singer Dusty Springfield. It is to date the highest charting album of Lynne's career, reaching #41 on the Billboard 200, thanks to such endearing renditions of Springfield classics like "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me," "I Only Want To Be With You" and "How Can I Be Sure" among others. The set was even produced by the legendary Phil Ramone, the engineer for Springfield's original recording of "The Look Of Love."
Reissuing this masterpiece was quite the undertaking for Analogue Productions. Keep in mind that almost without exception, for every pop record recorded after 1992, even if it's recorded to analog tape like this one, the songs are stored individually. That means that there is never an actual complete album master compiled. So to cut an LP from tape, they had to have mastering engineer Doug Sax assemble an analog master in order so that he could then cut the record to LP, using his famed tube electronics.
The resulting 200g heavyweight platter from Quality Record Pressings is dead quiet and smooth. Plating was also done in-house at QRP by Gary Salstrom. And on the heels of Analogue Productions' reissue of Dusty Springfield's Dusty In Memphis, which was named Stereophile's 'Recording of the Month' for February 2012, the timing couldn't be more perfect. An unparalleled mixture of great music, great performances and a great recording!

 The All Star Percussion Ensemble
Harold Farberman
$45.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Originally recorded on March 8th and April 12th in 1982 at New York's Vanguard Recording Studio, Golden String/First Impression Music are pleased to present this 200g LP reissue, remastered by Doug Sax and pressed at Quality Record Pressings. This deluxe LP edition also includes an insert and is packaged in a graphic-embossed box with a hinged lid.
Born in New York City, Harold Farberman began his career as a percussionist. He won a scholarship to Julliard, was the spotlighted drummer at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, and became at age 20 the youngest player in the history of the famed Boston Symphony Orchestra at that time. Later he earned a master's degree in composition from the New England Conservatory and became a much sought-after conductor, lending his talents to such orchestras as the New Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, the Denver Symphony and the Oakland Symphony.
For this release, Farberman has recorded works by four legendary composers utilizing the All-Star Percussion Ensemble. The ensemble features 10 head percussionists from seven famous U.S. orchestras, many of whom were Farberman's students. The 10 players handled a total of some 60 to 80 instruments, varying from piece to piece. On a high resolution audio system there are slight noises of the players' footsteps as they run from one instrument to another, maintaining synchronicity with Farberman's innovative arrangements.
Farberman's works here with the The All Star Percussion Ensemble include Bizet's "Carmen Fantasy"; Beethoven's "Scherzo, from Symphony No. 9"; Pachelbel's "Canon in D"; and Berlioz's "March to the Scaffold, from Symphonie Fantastique."
Track Listing:
1. Bizet: Carmen Fantasy
2. Beethoven: Scherzo, from Symphony No. 9

This 1960 trio date was pianist Parlan's first of many great releases for Blue Note. The Pittsburgh native, who overcame polio as a child that left his right hand crippled, had gained some serious props with his contributions on two of Charles Mingus' best albums the year prior (Mingus Ah Um, Blues And Roots), and was now ready to step out on his own. Choosing to tackle mostly standards, Parlan channels his idol Bud Powell's classic trio dates with the able assistance of Blue Note regulars Sam Jones, bass and drummer Al Harewood. The result is an eclectic mix, interpreting the works of Tadd Dameron, Duke Ellington, Milt Jackson and Burke-Van Heussen plus a Parlan original, Up In Cynthia's Room, which became one of his signature pieces.
