Three Standard Cones & Five Resonance Control Discs

No system can sound its best until resonances are under control. Stands, shelves and component chassis are major contributors to vibrations. Materials commonly used to to manufacture shelves and racks, such as marble, granite, glass and most metals, are used for cosmetic reasons and actually aggravate the vibration and resonance problems.

Valid Points are designed to provide isolation and stabilize resonances of all components in an audio or video system. This includes analog, digital and video components, as well as speakers, shelves and stands. The improvement in the sound will be amazing. The sound stage will have greater width, depth, detail, bass, speed, extension, and focus.

Resonance between components can be additive or subtractive. Therefore, it is necessary for the two most critical components to be treated first, at the same time.

RECOMMENDED APPLICATIONS

Digital Systems - The transport or CD player and pre-amp are usually the most critical components of a digital audio system.  In a video system, the video player and the processor are the most critical.  You will achieve the most dramatic effect by treating both of these components with Valid Points first.  Next, apply Valid Points to your D-to-A , followed by the amplifiers and speakers.  

Analog Systems - Valid Points will improve the sound most effectively by treating the turntable, phono amp and pre-amp simultaneously.  Then, apply Valid Points to your amplifier and speakers.  (If the transformers are exposed, place two discs on top.) 

Remote Power Supplies -  These will benefit enormously from Valid Points.  The effect will be as great, or even greater, than the effect on the component itself.  If the transformers are exposed, use two of the ½ -inch discs or order the larger, optional 1-inch discs for the top of the transformers.

Speakers - Use the larger 2-inch Valid Points under the speakers, three per speaker stand. Valid Points are available threaded.  Also, use the ½ - inch or 1-inch discs on top of the speakers to control cabinet vibrations.

PLACEMENT OF CONES AND DISCS

Don’t worry about where the manufacturer has placed the feet on the component. Usually, the feet are placed for convenience, not for controlling resonances.  The real test is in the music.  

Three Valid Points are recommended and should be positioned with the points down into the control discs.  Try several configurations -- two in front and one in back, then try two in back and one in front. You will be able to hear the difference and there will be an optimum placement.  The rough side of the resonance control disc always goes down.

USING THE EXTRA DISCS 

Each standard Valid Points Resonance Control kit comes with three cones and five discs.  You will use three of the discs under three cones.  The two remaining resonance control discs are to be placed on top of your component to control case vibrations and resonances.  The discs should be placed near the center - usually about one to three inches apart.  

Remember: All discs are placed rough side down.

With the discs in place, tap lightly on the top of the component.  Adjust the position of the discs until the high-pitched ringing is eliminated.  If the top cover of your component is very large, you may need an extra disc or the heavier 1-inch resonance control discs which may be purchased separately.  The Super Tuning Kit comes with four 1-inch control discs.  When the Valid Points are properly placed, you will hear a much deeper, wider, and more focused sound stage, faster dynamics, more detail and much better controlled bass.  The improvement will be quite dramatic.  Any changes you make now in your system, you will be able to hear immediately!

Two of the numbers, the bittersweet "All I Could Do Was Cry" and the lounge-worthy "Trust In Me", promptly landed in both the R & B and Pop charts. But the more carefree, candy rock 'n' roll ("Tough Mary"), the weird and languishing song ("Girl Of My Dreams") and the stuff of finest ballads ("Stormy Weather") are all found in this highly diversified mainstream mix. An unobtrusive background of gentle strings and chorus, so typical of the times, sensitively enhances the carefully chosen numbers, somewhere between Rhythm & Blues, Soul, and Standard Jazz. The result is a timeless, highly accomplished and variegated LP from the beginning of Etta James' lengthy discography.

Iconoclast Japanese trio Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. But, Attention Please is more like a complete redefining of their potential in several ways. First and foremost, it is the first album on which all vocals are sung by lead guitarist, Wata. While she has previously sung on a couple of songs for singles and her own solo recordings, the entire 10-song album features her intimate, multifaceted vocal style. Secondly, the songs on Attention Please have a sultry, intoxicating catchiness to them. It's melodic without sounding pop. It's psychedelic without sounding dated. It's heavy without relying on barre chord riffs.

Aural Sculpture was a hugely underrated album by a group whom many unrightfully thought were only relevant in the ´70s. Despite the somewhat pretentious title, the songs on this album are strong pop compositions. It would seem the often heavy-handed Stranglers went into the studio and decided to have some fun, as evinced in 'Mad Hatter' and 'Punch & Judy'.

It also contains one of their biggest hits to date : "Skin Deep". On top of that this 180 grams double audiophile version also includes 11 bonustracks!

The records stellar guest musicians are essential to shaping the sound throughout Beauty Queen Sister, according to Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. Many of our players are top-notch Nashville talent, you just dont get any better than that, Saliers says. Noting the dynamic drumming style of Brady Blade and the smooth bass grooves of Frank Swart and Viktor Krauss, Saliers adds that the high-energy ensemble of featured artists played a key role in carrying out the organic approach we wanted to take on this album.

War Rugs, a song about the 2011 Egyptian revolution, features guest vocals from singer/songwriter Lucy Wainwright Roche, while the love song We Get To Feel It All features honey-tinged backup vocals by The Shadowboxers (an Atlanta based band). On the subdued yet sultry Share The Moon, Jim Brock provides rumbling percussion, while Carol Issacs lends her delicate piano sounds to Birthday Song. Originally released in 1975, Bundles marked a turning point for the band, not marked by the fact that this album was the first to have an actual title, instead of just a number. This would also be the last album to feature the brilliant keyboard playing of Mike Ratledge, the last surviving member of the original 1963 Wyatt-Allen-Ayers line-up, but whose playing here takes a backburner to the prominent role played by brand new guitarist (and another ex-Nucleus member) Allan Holdsworth. Holdsworth's hardworking guitar style breathes new life into the band after the relatively weary sounding Seven. Although, much of what came after Fourth has been dismissed as past-prime by many Softs fans Bundles is that one bright star on the post-Wyatt horizon, and along with absolutely brilliant musicianship all around, this is some of the best fusion jazz to be found from that or any other period.

Sloan, Joe and Chris have been writing music together since junior high school in Denver. As they grew older, they moved away and apart. But it wasnt long before summer-recording sessions, trips from coast to coast and long-distance phone rehearsals between Sloan and Joe led to the acoustic EP As You Were (2003). The three then reunited in Southern California to self-produce their next two full-band EPs, Heartbreak And Masturbation (2004) and My Best Defense (2005), before returning to Denver. Constant touring, including with The Fray, and regular airplay for the poppunk sing-along Zombies Ate My Neighbors on Denvers KTCL led to the bands 2007 Reprise debut with the No More Sadface EP, which scored on the Heatseekers chart.

The band was a vehicle for the prodigious talents of Bob Mosley (lead vocals, bass guitar) and Chris Darrow (lead vocals, guitar).

Mosley had been an integral member of Moby Grape, one of the greatest California bands of the late 60s. A quintet comprising five talented musicians who not could play like demons, but were also equally skilled as singers and songwriters - joining Bob, were guitarists Peter Lewis and Skip Spence, Jerry Miller on lead guitar and Don Stevenson on drums. After a superb but sadly over-hyped debut LP that captured better than most the brief psychedelic glory of the Haight Ashbury era (and is now rightly regarded as a classic), they had spectacularly blown apart during the making of their sophomore set WOW, which saw the exit of the visionary Spence. Regrouping in its aftermath as a quartet, they had released the undervalued 69 which saw them mining a more country vein, but following a tour of Europe Mosley quit and in a surprise move briefly joined the US marines!

In 1971 the original members got back together to record the excellent 20 Granite Creek which opened in fine style with Bob's classic,'Gypsy Wedding' - sadly the reunion was brief with all the old wounds and rivalries soon stymiing any chance of recapturing any former glories and Mose quit again releasing a fine debut solo LP on Reprise.

Darrow had been a founding member of the wildly exotic Kaleidoscope, the hugely talented Claremont-based quintet that subsequently has been recognised as one of the first rock groups to play 'world music' - an outfit that blended many different styles from pyschedelic rock, blues and folk with country, cajun, turkish and cab calloway flavours. Chris played guitar, fiddle, bass and mandolin in a combo of multi-instrumentalists, that also featured the likes of soloman feldthouse and david lindley.

Chris quit Kaleidoscope after their second LP, A Beacon From Mars and joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band just in time to appear in the musical Western Paint Your Wagon with Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood. He then formed the Corvettes who backed up Linda Ronstadt.. As well as playing in these bands and releasing a series of fine solo albums, Chris had also made a name for himself as a sideman for the likes of Leonard Cohen and John Fahey.

In 1973 both Chris and Bob decided they wanted to be in a band again and their mutual manager Michael O'Connor suggested they form a group together - drawing on the energy and style of vintage Stones and Faces and adding more than a dash of the prevalent SoCal country rock scene to the mix, Bob and Chris were joined by lead guitarist Frank Reckard (subsequently in Emmylou Harris's Band for 14 years), keyboard player Loren Newkirk and drummer Johnny Craviotto (Ry Cooder, Arlo Guthrie, Buffy St Marie) - they cut 3 songs to try and get Warner Bros interested. Sadly Warner passed on the demos and they have lain unheard till now - the A-side, 'Albuquerque rainbow' is a crunchy rocker featuring Darrow on lead vocals and originally debuted on his eponymous second album done for UA. The flipside has Bob Mosley as lead vocalist - a treat for all those who already know what a masterful singer this norse god can be - first up is a soulful, smouldering version of the Temptations' 'i wish it would rain' that also boasts some dexterous picking from Reckard. the EP closes with a new version of Bob's exquisite 'Beautiful Day' originally done for the Grape's 69 record.

The band split soon after but these recordings are an integral link in the chain that binds Moby Grape with Fine Wine and the Ducks (Neil Young's legendary summer of 77 Santa Cruz bar band)- Darrow would go on to record a series of excellent solo albums and participate in a couple of Kaleidoscope reunions. Bob and John Craviotta would hook up with Jerry Miller for Fine Wine and then form the rhythm section of the aforementioned Ducks.

Unlike her soundtrack for Lars von Trier's film Dancer in the Dark which drew on the tradition of theatrical and cinema musicals (and won her Best Actress at Cannes), this is a collection of delicate single instrument studies, for harp, harpsichord and celeste, large orchestral masses scored for trumpet, trombone and oboe, electronic basslines, children's choir and, in a manner recalling the all-vocal Medulla album, Bjork's singular voice, treated as an instrument of astonishingly flexible texture. The soundtrack orientates itself around the traditional music forms of Japan as the film was shot in Nagasaki Bay onboard a whaling ship. The opening sequence, sung by Will Oldham (a.k.a. Bonnie Prince Billy), sets out the folk-culture roots of whaling, and the barbed political history in which those drowned.

Bjork has written a suite of haunting music for the sho, one of the oldest instruments in Japanese culture with seventeen reeds and fifteen distinct pipes. It is performed by Mayumi Miayata, one of the world's foremost sho players. Bjork also worked with scholars of the Noh theatre to produce new musical settings, incorporating the low, growling vocal techniques of traditional Japanese court entertainment. As a counterpoint to the ancient, Bjork's collaborations with her close circle of electronic producers continues - Mark (LFO) Bell, Valgeir Sigursson, Akira Rabelais and Leila.
