The second album from Matt Skiba and the Sekrets, entitled KUTS, is releasing on Superball Music. The album cover, photographed by Jonathan Weiner, is seen for the first time above.
Skiba's first album with the Sekrets, 2012's Babylon, received adulation from both fans and press. Now, Matt Skiba and his Sekrets (Hunter Burgan on bass, Jarrod Alexander drums) ready the release of KUTS. Skiba's ongoing work in Alkaline Trio has been a well-documented punk rock success story, and the vocalist/guitarist has recently performed several gigs as a temporary member of punk/alt icons Blink-182.
Says Skiba of KUTS: "The writing style and entire approach to this new one was a stronger desire to do something fairly different from my other band. We used sounds hugely influenced by early David Bowie stuff and took more chances. I knew that the playing of Hunter and Jarrod would bring entirely new elements to the songs that would help shape them in a huge way and influence ideas that I would never have thought of on my own. They did great stuff for the last record but had even more freedom on this one. It really shaped the way this record sounds."
Produced by Rob Schnapf (who has also worked with Elliott Smith, Beck and the Vines), Skiba says "I went in with really open and stark ideas, knowing that Rob would breathe life into the very vague ideas I had. I had written progressions and lyrics as well as some leads and key parts, but knew that what I was going to come out of that studio with would be completely different than what I walked in with."
The result is heard throughout the 10 songs comprising the brilliant KUTS. While the frontman will be touring with Alkaline Trio for the bulk of the spring and summer, he is committed to bringing the new material, and some favorites from Babylon, to life on the stage as his schedule permits.

Its been 13 years since the Alkaline Trio released their first full-length album, Goddamnit. In that time, theyve toured the world, sold over a million records, and expanded their sound radically beyond their original straight-ahead punk style, incorporating production slick enough to earn them mass exposure on multiple outlets.
Now comes an amazing retrospective of those 13 years, Damnesia, as ALK3 takes to the studio to record acoustic versions of 13 fan favorites and 2 new songs. These are not throwaway versions, but powerful reimaginings that drive as hard as the originals while bringing out the melodic greatness of these classics.
A radio hit like This Could Be Love now features moody piano, a Matt Skiba vocal take to die for, and will connect immediately with every fan who ever loved the song. With the band on their Damnesia tour in the summer of 2011 promoting the new versions, Damnesia will quickly become a fan must-have release.

Cult punk rock heroes, Alkaline Trio return with My Shame Is True, their most dynamic album to date. Recorded with Bill Stevenson of punk legends The Descendents and Black Flag and with Jason Livermore at the producers Blasting Room Studios in Colorado, My Shame Is True pushes the band into new musical terrain while embracing their classic Trio sound. The album contains 40 minutes of passionate punk-filled rock that showcases guitarist/vocalist Matt Skiba, bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano and drummer Derek Grant at their absolute best.
"We're very proud of it, says Matt Skiba. Once we got in the studio, the songs really took on a shape of their own. From the albums first melodic opener She Lied To The FBI to the first single, I Wanna Be A Warhol the Trio waste no time setting the tone for their energetic, hook-filled, eighth studio album. For the first time ever on an Alkaline Trio record, My Shame Is True finds a guest appearance from Rise Againsts Tim Mcllarth on rousing punk rock anthem, I , Pessimist, while songs like Im Only Here to Disappoint and album closer, Till Death Do Is Part remind fans of classic Trio, with stellar song-writing and catchy choruses.
Determined to never make the same record twice, Alkaline Trio have preserved the most electric elements of their collaborative songwriting abilities while pushing ahead creatively and as a band. With multiple world tours, numerous chart successes, and over fifteen years under their belt, the dark punk trio have cemented their legacy with My Shame Is True. "It's never been about being rich or famous, continues Skiba. We always wanted to have the band be our career to have that longevity that should be the goal. We are going to do it until it stops being fun. If it ever feels like a job, why would you be involved in the arts at all? We have the right chemistry as a band and with crowds, big or small. We have community within a community.

"On July 31, 2012, we lost a true original, Tony Sly. While we continue to mourn Tony our friend, we also celebrate Tony the artist with the official release The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute. We cant express how much it means to us and Tonys family that each of the artists and bands on this album took the time and effort to contribute such meaningful and interesting interpretations of Tonys songs." - Fat Wreck Chords

It's been 11 years since Alkaline Trio released their first full length album, Goddamnit. In that time, they've toured the world, sold over a million records, and expanded their sound radically beyond their original straight ahead punk style, incorporating production slick enough to earn them mass exposure. Now with This Addiction, their seventh album and first for Epitaph, the Chicago rockers are heading back to their roots. "This record is a rock record but our punk rock upbringing definitely shines through, more so than our last few records," says singer/guitarist Matt Skiba. "The vibe is similar to our humble beginnings. It's a step forward but I also think it has glimmers of our past in it." To recapture the sound of the early days, the band took a less is more approach on this record, keeping the keyboard to a minimum and sticking to the guitar driven slash and burn that has made them a household name.
