Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

This is the soundtrack from the Movie,
starring, along with an all star cast including Jessica Lange, John Goodman,
Melanie Cruse, Ed Harris, Jeff Bridges among many others, the Dylan Man
himself. The Movie has received mixed reviews which means it is probably
worth seeing but the soundtrack is great featuring a myriad of Dylan tunes
covered by an international cast of musicians in a host of styles. There
are also four tunes that Dylan himself covers, two of which are brand new
versions. This is a must have for any serious Dylan fan or music lover.
This package is a two LP set with a gorgeous gatefold jacket and printed
inner sleeves. A top recommendation.

 Another Scoop
Pete Townshend
$43.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - 2 LPs Sealed
|
A second collected volume of demo versions of songs destined to be considered for recording by The Who, this 1987 release on Atco Records is as an even stronger collection than it's 1983 predecessor. It (again) contains rough, acoustic workups of many Who standards in their infant form such as You Better You Bet, Pinball Wizard, Happy Jack, Substitute, Pictures of Lily and The Kids Are Alright among others. The curiosity lies solely in the head-arrangements on songs that were to become associated with time and enveloped within, Roger Daltry's vocal gymnastics. Here, sung by Townshend himself, one can sense the writer's distinct persona. . The comparison to eventual "more famous" versions is fascinating in most cases. The exposure of these workups reveals how great these songs really are, stripped down. Other selections include Girl In A Suitcase, Brooklyn Kids, Football Fugue, Long Live Rock, Call me Lightning, Holly Like Ivy, Begin The Beguine, Vicious Interlude, La-La-Lies, Cat Snatch, Prelude ##556, Baroque Ippenese, Praying The Game, Drifting Blues, Christmas, Don't Let Go The Coat, Prelude: The Right To Write, Never Ask Me, Ask Yourself, The Ferryman and The Shout.

A surprising twist and gutsy call from the Texas outlaw-Nashville outcast, choosing to wrap his trademark twang around what are considered pop standards. An audiophile favorite on vinyl and commercial success upon its release in 1978. Radio stations that program easy listening took to it immediately and continue to play cuts from it today. The Little Willies
Norah Jones
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The self-titled debut by The Little Willies is an album that perfectly distills the fun, down-to-earth spirit of this New York band’s club shows. The group – Lee Alexander (bass), Jim Campilongo (electric guitar), Norah Jones (piano, vocals), Richard Julian (guitar, vocals) and Dan Rieser (drums) – tears through a mix of covers and originals, from the revved-up western swing of Fred Rose’s “Roly Poly” and Willie Nelson’s “I Gotta Get Drunk” to the cutting wit of Kris Kristofferson’s “Best Of All Possible Worlds”; from the poignancy of Townes Van Zandt’s “No Place To Fall” to the cosmic absurdity of their own “Lou Reed.”
The Little Willies formed for purely practical reasons. In 2003, the group of five friends, who were all individually involved in other projects, booked a gig at The Living Room on New York’s Lower East Side as an excuse to spend an evening playing music together. They soon discovered that they shared a deep musical vernacular.

 Blues Walk (200 Gram)
Lou Donaldson
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
An alto player originally deep-rooted in bop, who by the late fifties was beginning to shed his Charlie Parker influences and take a more bluesy/soul approach. Blues Walk, from a one-day session in July of ‘58 has attained unanimous five-star status with the title track itself becoming one the leader’s signature tunes. Surrounding himself not with the usual all-stars found on many Blue Note dates from this period, Donaldson carefully chose his cohorts personally for their cohesiveness as a unit. Never one to engage frequently in wide-open “blowing sessionsâ€, the results are powerful yet melodic and in one case, “Autumn Nocturneâ€, fairly romantic without causing full-blown diabetes. Pianist Herman Foster’s intense pianistics almost steal the show while Peck Morrison’s bass and the often-overlooked Dave Bai! ley’s d rumming augment to perfection. The addition of Ray Barretto’s congas (a regular on many of Donaldson’s sessions from this period) is tasteful and a nice touch without turning every song into a Latin re-write. “Play, Ray†is an arrangement dedicated to the congist while “The Masquerade Is Overâ€, “Calling All Cats†and “Move†complete the set. Mastered and cut from the original TWO TRACK master tapes (running simultaneously with the full track mono master) using ALL TUBE tape electronics and cutting system allowed Bernie "BeBop" Grundman to extract every nuance on the tapes which adds to the magic of this Rudy Van Gelder recording. This is the real deal and it is done perfectly from mastering through to the authentic laminated cover art (front only) to the "deep groove" in the center label. In a few cases, when the two track master is done just right as with this recording, Classic complements the MONO release with a stereo offering. If you have to choose one over the other, you should go for the MONO as this was Rudy's focus in mixing live to MONO but if you can't resist comparing the two versions recorded at the same time with the same equipment or you can get a deal, then buy both - you won't be unhappy!
1. Blues Walk
2. Move
3. The Masquerade is Over
4. Play Ray

A Night at the Village Vanguard
Sonny Rollins
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed
|
Between March 1956 and November 1957, Sonny Rollins recorded two albums that would cement forever his rightful place as a jazz icon. Saxophone Colossus for Prestige in ’56 would become a jazz masterpiece while the live ‘trio’ recordings for Blue Note in late 1957 at the Village Vanguard would show another side of Rollins altogether. His some-what daring use of basically replacing the piano with his tenor, was not new for him nor, would it be the last time; his Way Out West in early 1957 was a breakthrough landmark and later, Freedom Suite in 1958 would be his return to the triad. Operating at his creative peak, Rollins was making the art of extended soloing his own and was able to both focus and stretch each song out in extemporaneous thoughts and whims. From an! aftern oon set he locked horn with bassist Don Bailey and drummer Pete LaRoca on the famous rendition of “A Night In Tunisia”. The evening set found the highly underrated Wilbur Ware on bass and the great Elvin Jones behind the skins, resulting in “The Ol’ Devil Moon”, “Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise”, “Sonnymoon For Two”, “I Can’t Get Started”, and “Striver’s Row”. Simply one of the greatest and most powerful live dates in the history of recorded jazz. Mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman on Classic's "ALL TUBE PURE MONO" cutting system (not like others who
use a stereo cutting head which imparts "crosstalk" onto the groove cut) and pressed onto 200 gram QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile for maximum fidelity. Jackets are authentic "tip-on" and laminated (front only) as were the originals - and the labels have the desirable "deep groove". Another installment in the Classic Blue Note Signature Mono LP Series.

2. Softly As in a Morning Sunrise
3. Striver's Row

 Not Too Late
Norah Jones
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
On this, her sophomore effort, Norah Jones shows how great a vocalist
she really is on tunes such as "Broken", "Wish I Could", "Sinkin' Soon"
and the title track "Not to Late" among others. Its not that Norah
hasn't always been a great vocal talent, it's that, on this record
she is more confidently
out in front vocally exhibiting a control of nuance that she is
famous for live. Would it be presumptuous to say she is securely the
top female Jazzy/Pop
vocalist on the strip, probably, but so what, she lives up to that
badge on this record. Firmly back to the "Come Away with Me" style
songs albeit even more
refined on songs like "My Dear Country", Norah and band are in the
groove on this release and it shows. On "Wake Me Up", Norah delivers
a stirring
Mary - Chapin Carpenter-ish performance accompanied by producer/band
member Lee Alexander on lap steel guitar. If there is any question
about my
assessment of this record, let me be clear, Norah delivers her most
solid and fluid record to date - I can't wait to hear it again -
excuse me while I flip the vinyl over!
Mastered by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood

 City Lights (MONO)
Lee Morgan
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed
|
Signed to the label when he only eighteen years old, this jazz prodigy, who cut his teeth as a Jazz Messengers with the great Art Blakey, proceeded to record a stream of impressive records as a leader for Blue Note. At the ripe old age nineteen, Morgan helmed the City Lights sessions in August of 1957 at Rudy Van Gelder’s Hackensack site. The all-star sextet tackles arrangements provided by the likes of Benny Golson and Gigi Gryce that are a perfect fit to their collective playing. Curtis Fuller on trombone, George Coleman blowing both alto and tenor, Ray Bryant at the piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor’s drumming add to Morgan’s trumpet that produced a classic of 50’s modern jazz. Cut on Classic's all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie "be-bop" Grundman from
the original full track mono master tapes and pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile. Another "must have" installment in Classic Blue Note Signature Mono LP Series.

 Bud (MONO)
Bud Powell
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed

The third and quite possibly the best, of a trio of recordings for Blue Note that are considered a triumph for this tortured artist. One of the true architects of be-bop,
Powell’s recording history, like his personal life, experienced extreme highs and lows. Before moving to Europe, Blue Note was able to capture him in variety of groupings. This August 3, 1957 date from Rudy Van Gelder’s Hackensack studio is damn near sheer perfection. Trio-mates Art Taylor on drums and Paul Chamber’s bass offer the perfect compliment to Powell’s five original compositions, with an outpouring of swing, blues and improvisation. A unique choice of a complimenting horn finds a quite young Curtis Fuller on trombone on three standards. Powell adds a fun break in the action with his s! olo, ba roque-bop Bud On Bach.

 The Magnificent (MONO)
Thad Jones
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed
|
Two separate sessions, from July 1956 and February 1957 make up this 12” release, recorded by RVG at his Hackensack studio. Trumpeter Jones decided to utilize two distinct groups of supporting players and the results are interesting contrasts in structure. Rounding out the quartet date with just a rhythm section of Barry Harris’s piano, Percy Heath on bass and drummer Max Roach, Thad’s trumpet is the main focal point. On the quintet date, Jones adds Benny Powell’s trombone and Gigi Gryce on alto sax for the front line, with Tommy Flanagan at the piano, George Duvivier on bass and his brother Elvin banging the skins. Sharp, tight playing from both groups, especially on “I’ve Got A Crush On You” and “I’ll Wind” highlight this collection. Mastered and cut on an all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie Grundman. At Large
Doug Watkins
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Transistion was a very small and obscure Jazz label for about two seconds in the mid - Fifties but they did a couple of great Jazz records and Watkins
at Large is one of them. This is Watkins on bass as leader of a band consisting of Duke Jordan on piano, Arthur Taylor on drums, Kenny Burrell on Guitar,
Donald Byrd on trumpet, and Hank Mobley on tenor sax. Watkins plays a seven foot Italian bass on tunes including his own "Panonica" and a 13 minute
version of Tiomkin's "Return to Paradise". According to Tom Wilson who produced the session and wrote the notes, " Watkins at Large is one of those rare
sessions where everyone falls immediately into the groove from the opening minute. The result of such a 'hang-upless' date is freely constructed, intensely
personal jazz without pretention or frills." As always, this "True MONO" recording was transferred from the original full track Mono master tapes on Classic's
ALL TUBE, MONO cutting system - no Mono cut on a stereo lathe here. Pressed on Classic's 200g Super Vinyl Profile and presented with original artwork
and eight page booklet provided by Jeff Barr of Jeff Barr Rare records. This is a record that is so impossibly rare that if we didn't reissue it then most people
would never know of its existence. We got the tip on this gem from Ron Rambach who has helped Classic over the years to consistently choose winning Jazz titles -

 Back To The Tracks (MONO)
Tina Brooks
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed

This is one of those Blue Note Records as that Larry Cohn would say,
should have come out in 1960 when it was recorded but not released which
was common for Blue Note. Tina on tenor sax is accompanied by Jackie
McLean on alto sax, Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Kenny Drew on piano,
Paul Chambers on bass,
and Art Taylor on drums doing tunes like "Back to the Tracks",
"Street Singer" and "The Blues and I" all penned by Brooks as well as
other tunes. The first
issue of this recording was in Japan and it has only subsequently
been issued in the US in stereo and as such this constitutes the
first MONO LP issue
as it would have been if it had been put out in 1960. This first US
Blue Note Mono issue on LP has been faithfully
reproduced and transferred from the original full track Mono master
tapes on Classic's ALL TUBE, MONO cutting system - no Mono cut

Sings Songs from the movie "Let No Man Write My Epitaph" is one of those rare recordings that is often overlooked because of its relative obscurity.

Monk Quartet with John Coltrane At Carnegie Hall
Thelonious Monk
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock
|
What is so grand about the Carnegie tapes is that those tunes Trane was struggling with (the first couple of weeks he was near-pitiful, with the heads, but Monk pounded away at the chords) - say, "Evidence," "Monk's Mood," "Epistrophy" which grew steadily more finished and exquisite during that Summer of wonder - by time of the concert a few months later, not only was Trane peerless with the heads, but now sailed off into his own furtherness and the band itself was tight as Dick's hat band.
Of even more curious delight is that one can see now how Trane's residency with that great band influenced the teacher as well. Check Monk's expansive backup arpeggio's on "Monk's Mood," matching Trane's multi-noted zoom. "Epistrophy" shows the exactness the well-honed match that playing together over an extended period can produce. - Amiri Baraka, liner notes
Jazz has had its share of great archival discoveries, not the least of which were Dean Benedetti's recordings of Charlie Parker. But the discovery of more music from the Thelonious Monk quartet with John Coltrane is made all the more extraordinary because so few knew it existed and the only official recordings by this band were made in its first weeks of existence.
Now a forgotten November 1957 Carnegie Hall concert taped by Voice Of America radio has been discovered by the Library of Congress with two appearances by the quartet.
These two 25-minute, five-tune sets feature the quartet in great fidelity and unbelievable form. The empathy and invention of the group here far surpasses the Riverside session, made months earlier. Playing together every night for 18 weeks sharpened the skills and interaction of these brilliant musicians. Monk's piano playing has never sound like this; his arpeggios are virtuosic and each note rings with clarity on the Carnegie Hall piano. Coltrane had fully mastered Monk's music by this time. In the confines of short playing times (most tunes are 4 to 6 minutes in duration), he plays with a fervid intensity trying to cram all his ideas into a brief amount of time. Ahmed Abdul-Malik and Shadow Wilson play the intricate arrangements with fluidity and push the soloists to great heights. Thanks to the clarity and presence of Wilson's drums on this recording, his work will be a revelation to anyone who had not had the fortune to see him live.
This LP was mastered from the original 15 ips mono analog tapes by
Kevin
Hodge at the Master Cutting Room and pressed on Classic Records proprietary 200 gram Quiex Super Vinyl Profile virgin vinyl.

the recording. Big Band is hard to capture in mono as well as it can be
recorded in stereo and this original two track is BIG BAND Stereo! This one
gets top recommendations.

 The Cooker (MONO)
Lee Morgan
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
This September 1957 session, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack, finds the still young Morgan (age 19) in the company of an interesting mix of players and not your Blue Note supporting regulars. Yes, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones are present on bass and drums respectively but asking Pepper Adams in on baritone sax and the inclusion of pianist Bobby Timmons, both usually associated with rival Riverside (but no strangers to Van Gelder), give these particular sides a nice edge.
Morgan’s interplay with Adams’ throatier horn gives a new perspective to his patented rapid-fire lines. Having assumed his place in the majors from his childhood idol, the late Clifford Brown (d. 1956), Morgan was on the assent in ’57 with what was to be a series of recordings for Blue Note that would help establish him in his short lifetime (33 years) as one of the greatest bop trumpeters.
The Cooker contains two Morgan originals “Heavy Dipper” and “New-Ma”, with standards “Just One Of Those Things”, “A Night In Tunisia” and “Lover Man” completing the album. Mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman on Classic's "ALL TUBE PURE MONO" cutting system (not like others who use a stereo cutting head which imparts "crosstalk" onto the groove cut) and pressed onto 200 gram QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile for maximum fidelity. Jackets are authentic "tip-on" and laminated (front only) as were the originals - and the labels have the desirable "deep groove". Another installment in the Classic Blue Note Signature Mono LP Series.

 Time Out (Box Set)
Dave Brubeck
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 4 LPs Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
Boasting the first jazz instrumental to sell a million copies, the Paul Desmond-penned "Take Five," Time Out captures the celebrated jazz quartet at the height of both its popularity and its powers. Recorded in 1959, the album combines superb performances by pianist Dave Brubeck, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, drummer Joe Morrello and bassist Gene Wright. Along with "Take Five," the album features another one of the group's signature compositions, "Blue Rondo a la Turk." Though influenced by the West Coast-cool school, Brubeck's greatest interest and contribution to jazz was the use of irregular meters in composition, which he did with great flair. Much of the band's appeal is due to Desmond, whose airy tone and fluid attack often carried the band's already strong performances to another level. Together, he and Brubeck proved one of the most potent pairings of the era. Now available on Classic Records Clarity Vinyl SVP-II 200g as a Single Sided 45rpm Four Disc Deluxe Box Set.

2. Strange Meadow Lark

Over the past decade, new talent such as Cassandra Wilson, Patricia Barber and Holly Cole have re-defined the world of female jazz vocals. Originally released in 1959 on Roulette, this meeting
finds Count Basie and his band in a peak period: a
fantastic rhythm section, tight and powerful brass,
silky reeds and skillful arrangers like Neal Hefti doing

along with such support and swings right into line on
such tunes as "Jeepers Creepers", "Anything Goes" and
"I'll Guess I'll Have To Change My Plans". Ballads and
up tempo tunes alike are perfect blends for these two
masters, who make them all sound fresh. Other songs

Released as a second volume of recordings by Roulette Records from a 1961 summit between two jazz icons, after hearing this collaboration you'll wish they had recorded ten volumes. And wit the musical talent and knowledge between them, they could have! Using Armstrong's regulars plus Ellington at the piano (who performs exceptionally well, comping understatedly behind the vocals), the duo romps through seven of the Duke's most famous and popular compositions. And when Satchmo decides to blow, he leaves the Dixie clich? at home and shapes his solos perfectly into the tasteful arrangements. With Trummy Young on trombone and Barney Bigard on clarinet plus a rhythm section of Mort Herbert on bass and Danny Barcelona on drums, these recordings are a once-in-a-lifetime dream summit meeting that thank God producer Bob Thiele was brilliantly astute enough to arrange and capture on tape. Selections include It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), Solitude, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, I'm Beginning To See The Light, Just Squeeze Me, I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good) and Azalea.

One of the lesser-known Louis Armstrong sets, this album was recorded during the same day that resulted in his similar I've Got the World on a String. The great trumpeter/singer is backed by a string orchestra arranged and conducted by Russ Garcia. He performs eight veteran standards, only one of which ("Body and Soul") was associated with him in the past. Although the accompaniment is pretty straight and unadventurous, it is enjoyable to hear Satch's interpretations of such songs as "Have You Met Miss Jones," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Home" and "East of the Sun." Many of his trumpet solos during the medium-tempo material are brief but dramatic, and his singing is typically expressive and good-humored.-Scott Yanow, AMG

After a host of great albums for the Mercury label, Sassy signed with

surrounding herself with first rate arrangers and sidemen, the 1963 sessions
that made up "The Lonely Hours" pairs her with the sensational
multi-talented Benny Carter. His astute charts, especially the take on
Ellington's "Solitude" enhance the feelings of longing, loneliness,
heartache and lost love while Vaughan's patented phrasing and
interpretations sell the mood. A bakers dozen of great selections including

Satchmo Plays King Oliver is one of those titles that audiophiles have known about for years and a favorite at hi-fi shows for demonstration. The first cut "St. James Infirmary" is out of this world and the excellent renditions of "I Ain't Got Nobody" and "Frankie and Johnny" aren't too far behind. Originally issued on Audio Fidelity, this Classic reissue is available for the first time on Classic Records 200g 45RPM Clarity Vinyl. Not to be missed!
Clarity Vinyl represents the ultimate in vinyl formulations because it is comprised of over 90% of the highest quality co-polymer available, a key component in vinyl pellets used for manufacturing vinyl records. Further, Clarity Vinyl has no carbon black additive, common in vinyl formulas for LPs. Carbon Black contains trace metals that become magnetized and cause electrical distortions in cartridges during playback that smears the sound. By taking out the Carbon Black, Classic Records is able to dramatically reduce the electrical distortions and thus bring more clarity to the playback process, providing a more realistic musical experience to the listener and LP enthusiast.

 Hank Mobley (200 Gram)
Hank Mobley
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl MONO LP - Sealed
|
This stunning mono set was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder and originally
released on Blue Note Records in June of 1957. The original Jazz
Messengers, who Mobley had help found, had just disbanded and the heavyweight
tenor-man was splitting time between Horace Silver's new group and as an
exclusive Blue Note recording artist. Calling on some of the cream of NYC's
finest, Mobley opted for a sextet setting and the results became a classic.
Including another sax player in Curtis Porter on alto and second tenor
was a unique thought and added to the front-line punch of Bill Hardman's trumpet.
The rhythm of Sonny Clark on piano, Paul Chambers at the bass and Art Taylor behind
the drums is an all-star adhesive holding the group tightly together. Mobley's "dry
and intimate" tone shines through in a subtle approach to the harmonies and cadence
set in each selection. Mastered from the original first-generation monaural master
tapes and cut with Classic Record's custom-built mono cutting head. Included are
Falling In Love With Love, Mighty Moe and Joe, Bags' Groove, Double Exposure and News.

 Candy (200 Gram)
Lee Morgan
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl MONO LP - Sealed
|
This classic Blue Note session finds trumpeter Morgan not having to battle
other horns, just front-and-center with an all-star trio behind him. It was
his only quartet recording as a leader, for Blue Note. The exquisite Sonny
Clark on piano, Doug Watkins' solid bass and the ever-tasteful Art Taylor
behind the drums complete these sessions recorded in Hackensack by RVG in
Nov. '57 and Feb. '58. Loaded with standards, it's a hard-bop masterpiece
that both swings and shows the ballad side of one of the defining young
trumpeters from the late 50s - early 60s. Not discounting the contributions
from the rhythm section, the high-caliber interplay between just trumpet
and
piano is a rare treat and a marvel to behold. Selections include Since I
Fell For You, C.T.A., All The Way, Who Do You Love, I Hope?, Personality,
All At Once You Love Her and the title tune.
1. Candy 2. Since I Fell for You 3. C.T.A. 4. All the Way 5. Who Do You Love

 Volume 1 Comparison Package
Miles Davis
$54.99
Vinyl LP 10" 33 RPM Disc + 45 RPM 12" 200G Disc - Sealed
|
This is Miles Davis' first Blue Note recording released in 1952 as a 10" LP with the title apparently borrowed from a 1950 movie of the same name starring Kirk Douglas. The line up on the six song LP features Jay Jay Johnson, Jackie McLean, Gil Coggins, Oscar Pettiford and Kenny Clark backing up the Young Man with a Horn. This record swings and the playing is obviously from a more romantic Miles trying to find his way. The authentic "deep groove" non-groove guard pressing in an authentic tip on jacket will fool even the best collectors. Cut on the newly restored Classic Mono Cutting System at Bernie Grundman mastering by Mr Be Bop himself! Even if you don't own a record player you have to have this record if you want to be cool.
Includes Mono 10" Disc 33.3rpms and 45rpms 12" QUIEX SV-P 200g double sided disc.
