 Blue Lights, Volume 1
Kenny Burrell
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

This live date broken into two volumes has never sounded better! Upon its original release, critics and fans alike marveled at the recording quality and the moderate amount of audience noise that can distract from crucial moments of music. Recorded just two years after moving to New York, at the Manhattan Towers on May 14, 1958, leader Burrell decided to eschew a small ensemble and super-size the bandstand. During this period, between contributions for Blue Note and Prestige, he may have been the most-reco! rded na me guitarist in jazz and definitely had his pick of east coast players to choose from. His personnel choices for this show were inspired. After asking label-mate Louis Smith to bring his trumpet, he made an interesting choice in going with twin tenors in Tina Brooks and Junior Cook. Duke Jordan and Bobby Timmons split time behind the piano for the two different sets, while Sam Jones and Art Blakey handled bass and drums, respectively, straight through. Great extended jams get everyone involved on both standards and some originals including Jordans tongue-in-cheek Scotch Blues. Burrell himself takes front and center on outstanding versions of Autumn In New York and Caravan. Mastered and cut from the original TWO TRACK master tapes (running simultaneously with the full track mono master) using ALL TUBE tape electronics and cutting system allowed Bernie BeBop Grundman to extract every nuance on the tapes which adds to the magic of this Rudy Van Gelder recording. This is the real deal and it is done perfectly from mastering through to the authentic laminated cover art (front only) to the deep groove in the center label. In a few cases, when the two track master is done just right as with this recording, Classic complements the MONO release with a stereo offering. If you have to choose one over the other, you should go for the MONO as this was Rudy's focus in mixing live to MONO but if you can't resist comparing the two versions recorded at the same time with the same equipment or you can get a deal, then buy both - you won't be unhappy!
Track Listing:
1. Yes Baby
2. Scotch Blues
3. Autumn In New York

Over his twenty-five year tenure on Blue Note, pianist Silver employed some great horn men to record with but arguably none blended better with his arranging than the group he assembled for this May 1957 session. Hank Mobleys tenor and Art Farmers trumpet become the right and left hands to Silvers body of work and set a standard for small-ensemble writing and playing. No slouches themselves, Teddy Koticks bass and Louis Hayes drum work help produce a stellar collection including a version of Home Cookin that became a jazz classic. Mastered and cut on an all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie Grundman. Pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g super vinyl profile for the best and most authentic sound possible.

 Bossa Nova Bacchanal (MONO)
Charlie Rouse

Recorded in 1962 by Rudy Van Gelder at the Englewood Cliffs studio,
Rouse and Co. departed from the normal hard-bop that as Monks main tenorman he had earned his New York rep with and took the recent bossa nova / calypso craze, started by Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd and even Sonny Rollins to another place. With great grooves from the rhythm section, including augmentation with conga and chekere, the result is a great collection, rooted in various Afro-Caribbean styles and not American jazzmen trying to sound Brazilian. Among others, guitarist Kenny Burrells and especially drummer Willie Bobos playing makes this not just another bossa nova fad date. Mastered and cut on an all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie Grundman. Pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g super vinyl profile for the best and most authentic sound possible.
Track Listing:

 Volume Two (MONO)
Sonny Rollins

Outside of Paul Chambers, who was employed as Miles Daviss bassist at this time, all of the other players on these April 1957 RVG Hackensack dates were leaders of their own renowned groups; a reflection of the respect they all shared for the date leader, Sonny Rollins. Besides Chambers, with J.J. Johnson on trombone, Art Blakey behind the drums and alternating pianists Thelonious Monk and Horace Silver, who both play on the now-famous version of Misterioso, the words All-Star seem almost demeaning to this conclave. The resulting recordings burst forth with confidence and enthusiasm, capturing a fire and passion usually found only with uninhibited live dates and not the constraints of a recording studio. Exceptional versions of Poor Butterfly and You Stepped Out Of a Dream elevate this record to monumental status. Mastered and cut on an all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie Grundman. Pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g super vinyl profile for the best and most authentic sound possible
Track Listing:
1. Why Don't I
2. Wail March
3. Misterioso
4. Reflections

 Beauty & Crime
Suzanne Vega
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Beauty and Crime is possibly Suzanne Vegas best effort since her debut album and likely even better than the highly acclaimed Solitude Standing.
Beauty and Crime is a lengthy meditation on the city of New York, the place she calls home. These songs glide like a harlequin's ghost through the hearts and minds of city residents past and present, on its streets, in its hotels, apartments, in every corner of the city. There is more than the hint of memory on Beauty & Crime. The album is dedicated to the memory of Tim, who lived on "Ludlow Street" -- the name of the set's second cut, a searing and simply moving tribute to him -- and cites as muses in part "...Edith Wharton and all her heroines...and Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner for their passion," and who have songs named for them here. In doing so, 9/11 itself cannot be left out of the equation, and the album's final two cuts deal with personal versions of this story, one of which is informed by her brother-in-law Angel Ruiz, a New York City cop stationed at Ground Zero after the attacks on the World Trade Center. Most of these songs look at life in the interim, or remembering what the city was like in the '70s as on the cut "Zephyr and I."??Musically, this is easily her most adventurous record ever; yet it is also more accessible than any album since her debut. The craft and care put into the songs themselves and their articulation by Vega and producer Jimmy Hogarth are amazing. Here, emotions are laid bare in places whether in the first, second, or third persons, but they are always placed inside elegant yet spare lyrics that are taut, poetic, and evocative. The dreamy soundscape contains layers of guitars, percussion (organic, electronic and live, in one case) strings, reeds, brass, and backing singers (including daughter Ruby Froom who appears on a couple of cuts, and KT Tunstall who appears once). But it's the sound of Vega's acoustic guitar on all these songs that is unmistakably at the top and provides the album's anchor. It's important to note this, simply because it keeps these beautiful pop songs rooted in a new kind of contemporary folk that Vega was a pioneer of in the '80s. And it keeps her rooted to her own catalog, from the beginning to the present. In other words, as she has experimented in the past with all kinds of sounds, she has forever remained herself and never more so than here, whether it's the jazzy, faux bossa nova of "Pornographer's Dream" or its predecessor, the stunning "New York Is a Woman." "Frank and Ava," is a rocking pop tune whose electric and acoustic guitars entwine, seemingly kissing, wrapped around a bassline played by Tony Shanahan from the Patti Smith Group writes a reviewer from All Music Guide.
Mixed by Tchad Blake and recorded at both Sear Sound in New York and Olympic Studios in London , the sound of this record is full of depth and nuance that every audiophile and music lover will love. Mastered and cut on Classic Records All Tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman, this LP release is a must have and not to be missed! Highest recommendation.

 Quadrophenia

140 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
Temporarily out of stock
|
After the worldwide success of Tommy, Pete Townshends decided to take a second stab at rock opera and 1973s Quadrophenia was the result. Its premise is rooted in a teenage perspective in 1964-65, and the friction between mods and rockers in the London and Bristol regions of the UK. The four-way split personality of the central figure Jimmy has been admitted to by Townshend as also being based on the distinct personalities of the! four b and members. The legendary Glyn Johns production is both powerful and stunning with the writing and arrangements, featuring maybe the most tasteful use of both sound effects and synthesizers in rock recording, brilliant. Pianist Chris Stainton (Spooky Tooth) contributes strong support on such songs as The Real Me, The Punk Meets The Godfather, Im One and Love Reign oer Me, all classic Who performances. This LP reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering using Classics ALL TUBE analog cutting system. Pressed on Classics 140g Super Vinyl Profile gives a slight edge to this reissue over the excellent original Track release. Gatefold artwork including tipped in 44 page booklet are given the usual Classic authenticity treatment down to the paper stock being original. For most Who fans this is the pinnacle of Who albums and is treated as such in all aspects of this reissue which is NOT to be missed!

It was over thirty five years ago when Jimi Hendrix took the stage to end
what would arguably become the most famous Rock event in history. Who knew
it would be around 9 am on the Monday morning after the event was to end on
Sunday night. What we do know is that Jimi came to headline the show and
did so with a great set albeit at least twelve hours later than anticipated.
Yes, many people had already left but for those who stayed to see the
world's greatest rock guitarist it must have been a fitting end to three
days of memorable performances by Crosby Stills and Nash, Janis Joplin,
Santana, The Greatful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Jefferson
Airplane, The Band and a host of others. To commemorate that day and the
spirit of what it has come to represent, Classic Records and Experience
Hendrix would like to announce the Limited Edition Jimi Hendrix at
Woodstock deluxe LP Boxed Set which includes the legendary Hendrix performance

members present that last day in the Summer of Love. Also included is a
bonus vinyl 7 single with Izabella and Message to the Universe recorded Eddie Kramer at the Hit Factory the
week after Woodstock with the same band by Eddie Kramer. This definitive

York on August 18th 1969!

It was 35 years ago at about this time that Jimi Hendrix took the stage at the Fillmore East in New York to perform a set that would become, in part, one of the best Live albums ever recorded - entitled simply Band of Gypsys. In fact, Hendrix played two nights at the Fillmore, the second performance being on New Years day 1970 after a rousing performance on New Years eve 1969. To celebrate the beginning of the new decade, Fillmore East impresario Bill Graham went to great length to ensure a special evening for his patrons, dressing his ushers in special shirts and placing toy tambourines on each of the venue's 2,639 seats. He strode onstage and introduced some very old friend with a brand-new name As the sold-out crowd roared in approval, Jimi led his trio through a scintillating 75 minute set. Hendrix was ON this night delivering perhaps his finest live performance. His playing was focused and precise. In fact, for most of the set, Hendrix stood motionless, a far cry from the stage antics that helped establish his reputation as a performer. Equipment problems had plagued him in past live shows as well, but everything was perfect for the Fillmore shows. His absolute mastery of his guitar and effects is even more amazing considering that this was the first time he used the Fuzz Face, wah-wah pedal, Univibe, AND Octavia pedals on stage together. The guitar tones he gets on Who Knows and Power to Love are powerful and intense, but nowhere is his absolute control more evident than on Machine Gun, where Hendrix conjures bombs, guns, and other sounds of war from his guitar, all within the context of a coherent musical statement. The solo on Machine Gun totally rewrote the book on what a man could do with an electric guitar and is arguably the most groundbreaking and devastating guitar solo ever. At midnight, when the strains of the Guy Lombardo Orchestra's Auld Lang Syne filled the theatre, the Band of Gypsys appeared back on stage, Jimi launching into his own arrangement of the traditional year-opener, a beautiful rendition that captivated the audience immediately. Now Classic Records brings back this legendary title for the first time on 140 gram vinyl. George Marino and Eddie Kramer mastered and cut the lacquers from the original analog two track masters at Sterling Sound in New York with Michael Fremer in attendance in 1998. The legend lives on as do our memories of one of Rock's greatest performers - Jimi Hendrix.

Passion is in actuality Peter Gabriel's soundtrack to the Martin Scorsese
film The Last Temptation of Christ, re-titled as a result of legal barriers;
regardless of its name, however, there's no mistaking the record's stirring
power. Like much of Gabriel's solo work, the album is a product of his
continuing fascination with world music, which he employs here to create an
exceptionally beautiful and atmospheric tapestry of sound perfectly
evocative of the film's resonant spiritual drama; inspired by field
recordings collected in areas as diverse as Turkey, Senegal, and Egypt,
Passion achieves a cumulative effect clearly Middle Eastern in origin, yet
its brilliant fusion of ancient and modern musics ultimately transcends both
geography and time. Remarkably dramatic, even visual, it is not only
Gabriel's best film work but deserving of serious consideration as his
finest music of any kind; equally worthwhile is Passion: Sources, which
assembles the original native recordings which served as his creative
launching pad. ason Ankeny. The transfer was from the original two track
1/2 analog master tapes provided by Peter Gabriel's Real World for cutting
the master lacquers.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

On her stunning sophomore album, Central Reservation, Beth Orton slips free
of the electronic textures that colored her acclaimed 1996 debut, Trailer
Park, stripping her music down to its raw essentials to produce a work of
stark simplicity and rare poignancy. With the exception of a pair of Ben
Watt-produced tracks (Stars All Seem to Weep and a remix of the title
cut), Central Reservation rejects synthetic sounds and beats altogether in
favor of an organic atmosphere somewhere between folk, jazz, and the blues;
the focal point is instead Orton's evocatively soulful voice, which invests
songs like Sweetest Decline and Feel to Believe with remarkable warmth
and honesty. It's a risky move creatively as well as commercially.

recording to be presented in Mono and as such recorded the stereo channels
discreetly so that the blend in combining (mixing) the two tracks makes for
a perfectly layered musical presentation which supports Orbison's
astonishing vocal exquisitely. This is a must have record from the original

Union's release in 1988 announced a bold, incendiary new voice in the singer/songwriter sweepstakes in Toni Childs. The well-traveled Childs, the short-term original lead singer for Berlin, draws upon the vast experiences of her life and delivers them with an urgency that is hypnotically compelling. It's all tied together by David Tickle's production and aided by first-rate backing by musicians including songwriting collaborator David Ricketts, drummer Rick Marotta and guitarist David Rhodes. The single Don't Walk Away kicks things off in high gear and Childs rarely looks back. Her take-no-prisoners vocal drives the funky, horn-driven track, which is backed by the gospel swell of the background vocalists. Although the rest of the album is a little more sedate, Childs never loses the urgent edge to her dusky voice. Stop Your Fussin' is sung to a restless lover over a Caribbean rhythm and Hush has a playful bounce to it. Elsewhere, Zimbabwae is a parable detailing African strife complete with chanting background vocals and Dreamer provides her with a bed of keyboards that shimmer like stars. The twice Grammy-nominated Union received universal critical acclaim and is riveting right through the moody poetry of the final track, Where's the Ocean. Tom Demalon

The seventh volume of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series doubles as the soundtrack to No Direction Home, Martin Scorseses's feature-length documentary covering Dylan's career from its beginnings to 1966 (it was aired in two parts on PBS in September 2005 and released in expanded form on DVD that same month). Unlike the previous three installments of The Bootleg Series, which focused exclusively on live concerts, No Direction Home is assembled from a variety of sources, including home recordings, publishing demos, alternate studio takes, and live recordings, with the first disc devoted to early acoustic recordings and the second to electric music. In fact, No Direction Home proceeds chronologically, filling in gaps between the proper albums or, more often, providing a parallel history of the most productive era of Dylan's career. All of this material -- with the exception of Song to Woody, taken from his debut, and a cataclysmic version of Like a Rolling Stone taken from the Royal Albert Hall show that was released as Bob Dylan Live '66 -- is previously unreleased, and much of it has not been widely bootlegged (and the cuts that have been bootlegged, such as Dink's Song, have never been heard in such crystal-clear fidelity). Where the inaugural edition of The Bootleg Series had many previously unreleased Dylan originals, there is only one here, the tentative opener, When I Got Troubles, a sweet, simple 1959 song that finds Dylanin his formative stage. In place of unheard songs are a slew of alternate versions of familiar tunes. On the first two LP's, these are largely live versions of such warhorses as Blowin' in the Wind, Masters of War, and A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall, recorded when the songs were still fresh. These live performances have an immediacy and intimacy that not only illustrate what a powerful folksinger Dylan was, but also suggest how the songs might have sounded when they were new tunes. Toward the end of the second LP, alternate versions that are significantly different from the final versions begin to surface with an early take on Mr. Tambourine Man recorded at the Another Side of Bob Dylan sessions with Ramblin' Jack Elliott on second guitar and backing vocals. The third and fourth LP's contain several alternates that are similarly notably different, highlighted by a lively, careening It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry with a different final verse, a Desolation Row with electric guitar, Highway 61 Revisited without the siren whistle, a slower, heavier, blusier take on Leopard-Skin Pill Box Hat, a relaxed version of Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again that lacks the carnivalesque swirl of sound from the Blonde on Blonde version, and a lean, insistent Visions of Johanna.
Everything here is uniformly excellent and worth hearing well more than once. That alone, of course, would make this yet another worthwhile addition to any serious Dylan collection, but what makes No Direction Home noteworthy as an album is that it is the first Dylan record to offer an aural biography of Dylan. This does a superb job of tracing the development of Dylan as a musician, taking him from a young folkie singing standards, through the rush of his early standards, and to the visionary music he made once he went electric. Put in this context, the electric music on the third and fourth LP's sounds as bracing and brilliant and surprising as it did in the '60s, while the acoustic folk on LP's one and two sounds vibrant, pure, and alive. After all these years, that's a hard accomplishment to pull off, and to the credit of everybody involved in this terrific release, they've been able to make even the most familiar Dylan tunes feel new again.
As usual, this deluxe edition comes from the original mix down masters and was transferred by Bernie Grundman to lacquer on on Classic's all tube analog cutting system. This deluxe 4-LP set includes two alternate cover art gatefold jackets (Blonde on Blonde and Bringing it all Back Home), a 60+ page 12 x12 booklet all housed in an a special outer box.

Which just about sums up the universal opinion of the first official live recording released by The Who. After repeated failed attempts on their 69-70 UK Tommy tour, the hall on the campus of Leeds University was intentionally scheduled for the main purpose of recording a live album. The results, although only six selections from a much longer performance, were a triumph. Riding the crest of the Tommy album and their monumental appearance at the Woodstock Festival, the original quartet of Townshend, Daltrey, Entwhistle and Moon channeled Mose Allison, Eddie Cochran and Chad Allen with cover versions of Young Man Blues, Summertime Blues and Shakin’ All Over respectively, while delivering expanded and stripped down versions that turned their own Substitute, Magic Bus and My Generation inside-out. A perfect mix, flaunting warts and all; amp noise, feedback and distortion…Who cares! This album ROCKS! All original artwork and packaging including all the bits are part of this Classic Records authentic reissue of the original Track UK release. Cut from the original two track master tapes (amp lead pops and all) at Bernie Grundman Mastering by Chris Bellman on Classic's ALL TUBE cutting system, this 200g Super Vinyl Profile pressing brings new insight into the genius in the nuance that has previously been obscured - even on original track pressings used for comparison in mastering.

1. Young Man Blues
2. Substitute
3. Summertime Blues
4. Shakin' All Over

Considered the very first rock opera, this 1969 breakthrough recording from the genius of Pete Townshend was highly controversial upon its release. Originally banned by the BBC and by some U.S. radio stations, the underlying child abuse and molestation theme in the tale of the deaf, dumb and blind Tommy Walker was a startling, darker side to the former mod-rockers from Shepherds Bush. Highlighted at the Woodstock festival and film, the album peaked at # 4 on the Billboard chart. Townshend proved to himself and the world he could still attempt such a libretto and still rock!. It s pawned such Who staples as Pinball Wizard, The Acid Queen, I'm Free and We're Not Gonna Take It / See Me, Feel Me. Ultimate movie, Broadway and concertized versions have kept its imaginative story and music in the forefront for the past three decades. Cut from the original two track quarter inch mater tapes provided by The Who on Classic's all tube stereo cutting system by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. Pressed on
140g heavy weight vinyl and packaged in authentic tri-fold laminated sleeve including original booklet. This is a masterpiece in every way and an absolute must for all rock fans!

The most famous bootleg in rock history, with the possible exception of Dylan's own Basement Tapes finally made its official appearance 32 years after the event, and nearly 30 years after it started circulating in the underground. Although often identified as a Royal Albert Hall show, this May 17, 1966, concert, in which Dylan played electric material in front of a British audience, was actually recorded in Manchester (hence the unwieldy title with quotes around Royal Albert Hall). Even those who've owned this recording for many a year should be tempted by this official package, as it has been expanded to include the eight electric rock songs from the original bootleg, but also the seven solo acoustic performances that comprised the first half of the show. It's all in great fidelity. More importantly, the electric half in particular is an important document of rock history. It captures the point at which Dylan was at his most controversial and hard rocking as he blazes through mid-'60s classics such as Like a Rolling Stone and Ballad of a Thin Man, radical electric arrangements of songs that had originally been recorded acoustically (One Too Many Mornings, I Don't Believe You), and the hard rocker Tell Me, Momma, which Dylan never recorded in the studio. On top of everything else there's a 56-page booklet with a fine essay by Dylan's friend Tony Glover (a notable folk musician in his own right). This is not just an interesting adjunct to Dylan's '60s discography; it's as worthy of attention as anything else he recorded during that decade. Originally, transferred from the 1/2 analog mix down masters and cut on Classic's all tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman and released on 180g Classic vinyl, this re-release is the first time this, long out of print Classic Record, has been on 140g vinyl as well our proprietary 200 gram Super Vinyl Profile making it sound better than ever!

Generally considered one of rocks first concept albums, this December 1967 release was preceded by two months with its first single release, the monster hit “I Can See For Miles”. Recorded in London, New York and Los Angeles including some post-production at the famed Gold Star Studios, this album was a turning point in the band's progression, weaving pure pop power with minor psychedelia
in both a humorous mockery and tribute to Britain's pirate radio scene, complete with faux commercials written and performed by the band, interspersed between songs. Also included is their second single Mary Ann With The Shaky Hand plus the mini-drama “Rael”, featuring Al Kooper on organ, which was originally intended as a full scale rock-opera by itself and propelled Pete Townsend to the realizations of both Tommy and Quadrophenia. The Stereo version was mastered and cut at Bernie Grundman Mastering by Chris Bellman on Classic's all tube Stereo cutting system from the original Stereo master tapes provided by The Who. This deluxe reissue package includes original TRACK artwork and labels and an authentic reproduction of the Psychedelic Poster included in original pressings of this title which are now nearly impossible to find other than on eBay for many hundreds of dollars.

One of the many alto players deemed a Charlie Parker descendant; Donaldson did indeed help carry the torch from the post-bop era but gradually infused more blues and eventually what was to become soul-jazz into his playing. This June 1957 session cut in Hackensack was a distinct departure from his previous dates for Blue Note. Pianist Herman Foster and conga-player Ray Barretto both of whom he would utilize on future recordings are joined by the tasteful drummer Dave Bailey and bassist Peck Morrison to complete the quintet. This was one of Donaldsons last sessions to incorporate piano, choosing in the future to replace it with an organ, which fellow label-mate Jimmy Smith was making very popular. Not forsaking his bop roots altogether, Lou and crew mix it up on this set, with three originals, a mambo arrangement plus a literally perfect rendition of 'There Will Never Be Another You'. Mastered and cut on an all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie Grundman. Pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g super vinyl profile for the best and most authentic sound possible.

Continuing the major groove that pianist Silver had established at Blue Note, this 1958 release finds trumpeter-extraordinaire Art Farmer and Clifford Jordans tenor sax on the front-line assault. Rounding out the five are drummer Louis Hayes and bassist Teddy Kotick. Silver penned five new exciting pieces for these sessions including The Outlaw, Melancholy Mood, Pyramid, Moon Rays and Safari while also tailoring a personal arrangement of the Arlen-Koehler standard Ill Wind. Both hornists get the chance to really stretch out in Silvers writing. Farmers prowess was already well established but both Jordans time and recordings with Silver jump-started his career to other echelons including as leader on his own recordings for Blue Note. Mastered and cut from the original FULL TRACK mono master tapes using a full track mono tape head and ALL TUBE tape electronics and cutting system allowed Bernie BeBop Grundman to extract every nuance on the tapes which adds to the magic of this Rudy Van Gelder recording. This is the real deal and it is done perfectly from mastering through to the authentic laminated cover art (front only) to the deep groove in the center label. If you didn't know better you would think that a copy of this reissue is a perfect original that has been locked in a time capsule instead of another installment in the acclaimed Classic Records Signature Blue Note Mono LP series pressed on Classics 200g Super Vinyl Profile.

This classic piano trio date from May, 1958 is considered one of absolute best from Powells late period. Bouts of mental disease resulted in highs and lows in his final discography, but the majority of his titles cut for Blue Note in the late 1950s stand out. Showing he still possessed what listeners and critics called the bounce, this album in particular reinforces Powell as a first-rate composer, with the debut of seven originals including the magnificent Johns Abbey and the title tune. Bassist Sam Jones and drummer Philly Joe Jones know how to stay out of his way and their contributions are nothing short of perfection. All three truly nail it on the remainder; Sub City, Dry Soul, Marmalade, Monopoly and the Afro-Latin groove of Buster Rides Again. One of the more unique recordings in the Blue Note 1500 series, trombonist Bennie Green oversees a cool mix of swing, blues and mambo arrangements, including vocal contributions by the leader himself and the great Babs Gonzales. With his bone tone still rooted in the swing era, Green was starting to take notice and become influenced by the emergence of soul and rhythm and blues. Case in point; inviting Gene Ammons to sit in on tenor. Adding Billy Root as a second tenor creates a front line like no other while the legendary Sonny Clark handles the piano. Ike Isaacs bass and the brute-drumming of Elvin Jones round out the sextet. Highlights include a forceful We Wanna Cook, plus heartbreaking takes of the ballads Thats All and Lullaby Of The Doomed. An alto player originally deep-rooted in bop, who by the late fifties was beginning to shed his Charlie Parker influences and take a more bluesy/soul approach. Blues Walk, from a one-day session in July of 58 has attained unanimous five-star status with the title track itself becoming one the leaders signature tunes. Surrounding himself not with the usual all-stars found on many Blue Note dates from this period, Donaldson carefully chose his cohorts personally for their cohesiveness as a unit. Never one to engage frequently in wide-open blowing sessions, the results are powerful yet melodic and in one case, Autumn Nocturne, fairly romantic without causing full-blown diabetes. Pianist Herman Fosters intense pianistics almost steal the show while Peck Morrisons bass and the often-overlooked Dave Bai! leys d rumming augment to perfection. The addition of Ray Barrettos congas (a regular on many of Donaldsons sessions from this period) is tasteful and a nice touch without turning every song into a Latin re-write. Play, Ray is an arrangement dedicated to the congist while The Masquerade Is Over, Calling All Cats and Move complete the set. If you didn't know better you would think that a copy of this reissue is a perfect original that has been locked in a time capsule instead of another installment in the acclaimed Classic Records Signature Blue Note Mono LP series.

2. Move

Prairie Wind (200 Gram)
Neil Young

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Prairie Wind is an adventure akin to taking a drive through one's own
life stopping off to revisit old friends and loved ones along the
way. For Neil Young fans this album delivers
songs that instantly stick in your mind as familiar. Tunes like
Falling Off The Face Of The Earth and The Painter evoke thoughts
of introspection that remind us of our humanity and its ultimate
fragility. No Wonder feels like
a early 70's anthem applied to more recent events while Far From
Home, with its bluesy harmonic interludes and horn accompaniment,
tells a story of fond reminiscence of childhood and growing up.
It's A Dream incites one to confront how fleeting our surroundings
are and ,in a sense, the desire to have them remain as more than
just a memory without anywhere to stay. The title track weaves
the same bluesy harmonica and horn section with a group backup
singers to create an eerie and evocative scene. Neil Young has
created in Here for You possibly the ultimate love song with a pace
and harmonica rifts reminiscent of Bob Dylan in the mid 60's if he'd
been in Nashville. This Old Guitar is a masterful story of life
that is impossible not to relate to in one way or another and
features a great backing vocal from Emmy Lou Harris making this tune
even more special. He Was King is clearly a tribute to Elvis
which harkens back to an easier time. The final track When God Made
Me asks the questions about our humanity we all ponder at some time
in our lives. This is an album, dedicated to his father that Neil
Young made for himself, his friends and family and is giving, as a
gift, to the rest of us. We can all benefit from the insights
contained here and possibly gain some important perspectives on life
- thanks Neil.
Classic Records, in cooperation with Reprise Records and Neil Young are proud to present Prairie Wind as a
Deluxe 2 LP gatefold edition. Included is an 18 page 12 x 12
booklet with lyrics and photos printed with soy based inks on paper
that is from sustainable forests and Rain Forest Alliance certified.
The LP mastering and cutting was done at Bernie Grundman Mastering in
Hollywood by Chris Bellman using the original 1/2 analog master
tapes with plating and pressing on Classic's proprietary 200g QUIEX
Super Vinyl Profile at RTI. The sound is, to put it bluntly, without
compare and sets a new standard for sonic achievement. Is this Grammy worthy? You bet it is.
As an added bonus, side 4 of the set is an interview with Neil
discussing guitars, equipment, music, musicians and musical arrangers
among others things. Not to be missed!

 My Generation (Mono/200 Gram)
The Who
$99.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - MONO Sealed
|
This is one of the seminal albums of the 60's along with the White Album and Let it Bleed. Originally mixed to Mono and a few tunes half heartedly to stereo, this record contains the title track My Generation which is as accurate today as it was 40 years ago. Additional tunes include The Kids Are Alright, I'm a Man, It's Not True, and The Ox among others. To mount this important reissue, we reassembled the original MONO master takes of each tune onto a master reel and had Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering cut directly from that reel through our all tube MONO cutting
system. That's right, this is not mono cut on a stereo head with the resulting crosstalk (read added ambient information) - it is the real deal just like it was cut in 1965 from the Shel Talmy (producer) original (not
copies) MONO master tapes. Artwork and labels are meticulously recreated from a Mint original copy of the impossibly rare UK Brunswick LP - which now sells for over $1500. On eBay. Whether you were alive in 1965 or not you need this record in your collection, that is, unless you are into Lionel Richie, in which case you should save your money because you won't get it
anyway. The first release from arguably the World's best Rock band - still! Buy it or piss off you wankers.
Track Listing:
1. Out in the Street
2. I Don't Mind

 Who's Next (200 Gram)
The Who

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

At the beginning of the 70s, the impact of Tommy weighed heavily on Pete
Townshend's shoulders. How on earth would he and the Who top such a
successful and important album? The guitarist-songwriter felt he had to take
his music and its conceptual strains one step further. He began writing a
futuristic fable that would transcend itself beyond the usual conventions of
modern music. Intended to be a film, a play, a concert, a mega multimedia
and cerebral experience - Townshend called his new project Lifehouse. And
although Lifehouse would stay frozen on the blocks for another 30 years, its
seeds sprouted the Who's most cohesive and consistent effort, Who's Next.
How Townshend's ambitious follow-up ended up as Who's Next isn't easy to
discern. After several false starts and a break with Who manager/mentor, Kit
Lambert, the record was eventually rescued and shaped by producer/engineer,
Glyn Johns. Much of Townshend's vision was contained within his extensive
demos -- bits and pieces of a loosely constructed storyline set against
experimental melodies and basic backbeats. The album's opening track, Baba
O'Riley, was originally an elongated cycle of synthesizer loops. What it
became was an anthem, highlighted by a tumultuous build, Dave Arbus'
rambling violin and Roger Daltrey's acclamation of a Teenage Wasteland.
The thunder is sustained by the contagious Bargain - now, like so much of
the Who's music, a commercial jingle. Love Ain't For Keeping chugs away
against a fierce acoustic rhythm while John Entwistle's sole contribution of
My Wife remains one of his most electrifying songs. This Song Is Over
features Nicky Hopkins' incomparable piano work and ends with a chorus
pulled from Pure And Easy, the central number of Lifehouse that failed to
make the final cut, but would resurface three years later on the Odds And
Sods compilation.
The theme is maintained on Getting In Tune, reintroduced during the Who's
most recent tour, and Going Mobile, a track with Townshend on lead vocals
that recounts a couple of Lifehouse's characters cruising the streets in a
Cadillac. It's the album's two singles that set up the grand finale. Behind
Blue Eyes and Won't Get Fooled Again are adrenaline-filled powder kegs
that capture the Who in their most primal state. Keith Moon's drumming is as
wild as ever, yet enduringly steady. Entwistle's sturdy bass and Townshend's
barking guitar rise and shift as Daltrey's signature scream radiates with
emotion and authority during the climax. This is arguably one of the Who's
greatest triumphs ever put on record. And indisputably one of the most
definitive moments in all of rock and roll.
- Review by Shawn Perry
Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman mastering from the original two
track 1/4 analog master tapes, cut on the Classic All Tube cutting

of Rock's greatest recordings - enough said!

It was thirty five years ago today when Jimi Hendrix took the stage to end
what would arguably become the most famous Rock event in history. Who knew
it would be around 9 am on the Monday morning after the event was to end on
Sunday night. What we do know is that Jimi came to headline the show and
did so with a great set albeit at least twelve hours later than anticipated.
Yes, many people had already left but for those who stayed to see the
world's greatest rock guitarist it must have been a fitting end to three

spirit of what it has come to represent, Classic Records and Experience

Generally regarded as Peter Gabriel's finest record, his third eponymous
album finds him crafting an album that's artier, stronger, more song
oriented than before. Consider its ominous opener, the controlled menace of
Intruder. He's never found such a scary sound, yet it's a sexy scare, one
that is undeniably alluring, and he keeps this going throughout the record.
For an album so popular, it's remarkably bleak, chilly, and dark

#4 which was titled Security in the U.S. continues where the third Gabriel album left off, sharing some of the same dense production and sense of
cohesion, yet lightening the atmosphere and expanding the sonic palette somewhat. The gloom that permeates the third album has been alleviated and while this is still decidedly somber and serious music, it has a brighter feel, partially derived from Gabriel's dabbling in African and Latin
rhythms. These are generally used as tonal coloring, enhancing the synthesizers that form the basic musical bed of the record. #4 flows easily and enticingly, with certain songs the eerie San Jacinto, I Have the
Touch, Shock the Monkey. #4 remains a powerful listen, one of the better records in Gabriel's catalog, proving that he is becoming a master of tone, style, and substance, and how each part of the record enhances the other.

 So
Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel introduced his fifth studio album So with Sledgehammer, an
Otis Redding-inspired soul-pop raver that was easily his catchiest, happiest
single to date. Needless to say, it was also his most accessible, and, in
that sense it was a good introduction to So, the catchiest, happiest record
he ever cut. Sledgehammer propelled the record toward blockbuster status,
and Gabriel had enough songs with single potential to keep it there. There
was Big Time, another colorful dance number; Don't Give Up, a moving
duet with Kate Bush; Red Rain, a stately anthem popular on album rock
radio; and In Your Eyes, Gabriel's greatest love song which achieved
genuine classic status after being featured in Cameron Crowe's classic, Say
Anything. These all illustrated the strengths of the album: Gabriel's
increased melodicism and ability to blend African music, jangly pop, and
soul into his moody art rock. Apart from these singles, plus the urgent
That Voice Again, the rest of the record is as quiet as the album tracks
of Security. The difference is, the singles on that record were part of the
overall fabric; here, the singles are the fabric, which can make the album
seem top-heavy (a fault of many blockbuster albums, particularly those of
the mid-'80s). Even so, those songs are so strong, finding Gabriel in a
newfound confidence and accessibility, that it's hard not to be won over by
them, even if So doesn't develop the unity of its two predecessors.
The Classic Reissue was cut from the original 1/2 30 ips analog master
tapes on the Classic all tube stereo cutting system at Bernie Grundman
Mastering by The Wizard Bernie Grundman himself. This release features
the additional tune We Do What We're Told (Milgrames 37) that was
originally not on the Geffen vinyl issue in 1986.

Six years after earning his first blockbuster, Peter Gabriel finally delivered Us, his sequel to So. Clearly, that great span of time indicates that Gabriel was obsessive in crafting the album, and Us bears the sound of endless hours in the studio. It's not just that the production is pristine, clean, and immaculate, it's that the music is, with only a handful of exceptions (namely, the Sledgehammer rewrite Steam and the fellatio ode Kiss That Frog), remarkably subtle and shaded. It's also not a coincidence that Us is, as Gabriel says in his liner notes, about relationships, since the exquisitely textured music lets him expose his soul, albeit in a typically obtuse way. Gabriel is as adventurous as ever, yet he is relentlessly sober about his experiments, burying exotic sounds and percussion underneath crawling tempos measured atmospherics this is tastefully two-toned music, assembled by a consummate craftsman who became too immersed in detail to make anything but an insular, introspective work. Some gems are easier to unearth than others Digging in the Dirt has an insistent pulse, Blood of Eden and Come Talk to Me are quite beautiful, Secret World is quietly anthemic yet, given enough time, the record's understated approach and reflection becomes its most attractive element. Transferred for the first time from the 30 ips analog master for 2 LP vinyl and packaged in a deluxe gatefold jacket makes for a definitive version.

 In Dreams (MONO)
Roy Orbison

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock
|
This third Orbison release came on the heals of Lonley and Blue and
Crying and includes the hits Blue Bayou and All I have to do is Dream.
This Bill Porter recording directly onto two track stereo offers two
perspectives - mono from a fold of the discreetly recorded stereo channels
and a stereo presentation directly from the master. Porter intended the
recording to be presented in Mono and as such recorded the stereo channels
discreetly so that the blend in combining (mixing) the two tracks makes for
a perfectly layered musical presentation which supports Orbison's
astonishing vocal exquisitely. This is a must have record from the original
2 track master tape mixed into mono and cut on Classic's pure Mono
(horizontal cutting only) all tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman.
Pressed on Classic's 200g Quiex Super Vinyl Profile.

Bob Dylan Live 1964 (200 Gram)

Another in the series of Classic Legacy Bob Dylan Bootleg series on Vinyl. This edition was cut from the 1/2 analog master tape on the Classic all tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman and features a deluxe box housing three LP's - each in unique jackets. Also included is a 60 pg 12 x 12 perfect bound booklet, and a custom 12 x 8 letter pressed vintage tour poster. Available in both 140g conventional profile and 200g QUIEX SV-P editions. It does seem strange, very strange indeed, to be hearing an official release of this historic concert, which has been available as a bootleg for decades. The Halloween gig at Philharmonic Hall in New York was a special part of the tour for Another Side of Bob Dylan, arguably his greatest acoustic recording. What's more poignant, however, is how it previews the material on Bringing It All Back Home. While the songs on Another Side hinted at things to come, nothing could have prepared audiences for the dreamy surrealism of Mr. Tambourine Man, or the nightmarish abstract poetry of It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), and Gates Of Eden all of which appear on Disc One The remainder of the material comes from Dylan's preceding catalog; there are stirring protest and topical songs, folk songs, humorous narratives, love songs, great wisecracks, and talking blues (Talking John Birch Paranoid Blues!), most of them classics With God on Our Side, Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, Times They Are A-Changin', Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Don't Think Twice, It's Alright, Mama You've Been on My Mind, All I Really Want to Do, It Ain't Me Babe, etc. All of these songs and many others (there are 17 in all) are delivered with the confidence of the seasoned performer; a man who knows his audience and how to handle them. It's not cynical, not detached, just masterful. For those unfamiliar with this set, Joan Baez makes an appearance near the end of the show, and duets with Dylan on four cuts including an amazing read of Silver Dagger. It is true that if you possess the boot, you have all the music here, and chances are, it has some pretty good sound. But you'll need this version, too. For starters, the sound is spectacular, wonderfully warm and immediate, and the transfer is extremely clean with wonderful dynamics. Secondly, the package is deluxe. In addition to a fine essay by Princeton historian and author Sean Wilentz (he made the gig when he was 13), there are a truckload of killer photos from the show and the period, along with complete discographical information that puts the bootleg packages to shame. For those interested in the acoustic Bob Dylan, this concert is like the grail; his voice is in impeccable shape, and his delivery is revelatory. For those interested in the transition from acoustic to electric, this show is the seam, and for who are diehard fans, this is another welcome item in the official catalog. Thom Jurek.

This is the second in the series of Classic Dylan, over the top,

In The Wind and Mama and Roger McGuinn who performs on Knockin'
On Heaven's Door along with Joni Mitchell and Ramblin' Jack Elliott
who add vocal and guitar support. This release was mixed from the
original 24 track tapes down to 1/2 analog tapes from which the 3
LP's are cut. In addition the set includes a 745 rpm blue vinyl
single of a never before released alternate version of Tangled Up
in Blue coupled with the alternate version of Isis as a B-side.

This is the soundtrack from the Movie,
starring, along with an all star cast including Jessica Lange, John Goodman,
Melanie Cruse, Ed Harris, Jeff Bridges among many others, the Dylan Man

worth seeing but the soundtrack is great featuring a myriad of Dylan tunes
covered by an international cast of musicians in a host of styles. There
are also four tunes that Dylan himself covers, two of which are brand new
versions. This is a must have for any serious Dylan fan or music lover.
This package is a two LP set with a gorgeous gatefold jacket and printed
inner sleeves. A top recommendation.

 Scoop
Pete Townshend
$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Pete Townshend's demos had grown legendary among Who collectors well before
the official release of the double-album Scoop in 1983. On each demo,
Townshend worked out full arrangements, which the Who would often follow
exactly. He also recorded a wealth of songs and instrumental pieces that
never made it to record. Over the course of two albums, Scoop features 25 of
these demos, including both classic Who songs (So Sad About Us, Bargain,
Behind Blue Eyes, Magic Bus, Love Reign O'er Me) and unreleased gems
(Politician, Melancholia, To Barney Kessell, Mary). Occasionally,
the songs sound better in their demo versions, particularly on latter-day
Who songs, which were over-wrought in their official incarnations. But what
makes Scoop so fascinating is its revelation of the depth and detail of
Townshend's imagination, and how he refined his ideas. But even casual fans
will find the sheer musicality of the record worthwhile it's one of the
most focused and impressive albums he has ever released.

In a world of trendy popsters, the King of Rock Royalty emerges solo with a new masterpiece. Scoop 3 is a continuation of Townshend's infamous Scoop projects, proving that carefully orchestrated lullabys, such as I Think I Like It the Way It Is, can co-exist with the cutting, raw power of bedroom style recording in Dirty Water. Boomtown
David and David
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock
|
David & David's Boomtown is a hard look at urban life in the 1980s, a time when many were fulfilling the American Dream of financial success and upward mobility. It is not an easy album to listen to, as the characters depicted in the songs are often dealing with major problems such as drugs and domestic violence. But it is an artful record, full of poetry and convincing stories of the hard times that many silently endured. At times the record is full of pop hooks, and at other stages a more bleak sound dominates. The vocals of David & David are also effective in telling the tales, as often there is a shrill, despondent quality that complements what is being related to the listener. In particular, the drums have kind of a hushed sound to them, and the guitars often purvey sounds of doom through distortion or other means. Welcome to the Boomtown is the hit off the album, and is one of various cuts that convincingly detail the many trials of the characters such as Kevin, who deals dope out of Denny's keeps a table in the back. Although there are often hints of hope and seemingly a sense of compassion toward the subjects in the songs, it is not apparent that most will eventually pull themselves out of their predicaments. One may not want to listen to this record to lift the spirit, but it is a strong reminder of difficult situations faced during what can be perceived by many as the best of times.

1. Welcome to Boomtown
2. Swallowed by the Cracks
3. Ain't So Easy
4. Being Alone Together
5. A Rock for the Forgotten
6. River's Gonna Rise

 Who Came First
Pete Townshend
$24.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Pete Townshend's first solo album is a homespun, charming forum for low-key, personal songs that weren't deemed suitable for The Who, as well as spiritual paeans (direct and indirect) to his spiritual guru Meher Baba. Who fans will be immediately attracted by the presence of a couple of songs from the aborted Who concept album Lifehouse (much of which ended up on Who's Next), Pure & Easy and Let's See Action. The Who did eventually release their own versions of both those songs. This record shows a folkier and gentler side to The Who's chief muse. Sheraton Gibson is a neat tune about rock & roll road life, and Time Is Passing takes very subtle inspiration from Baba. Most of the rest of the album contains some of the most unusual pieces Townshend has released: his acoustic cover of Jim Reeves' There's A Heartache Following Me (recorded because it was one of Baba's favorite tunes), Evolution (which is actually pretty much a solo track by his buddy Ronnie Lane of The Faces), Parvardigar (adapted from Baba's Universal Prayer), and Content (a philosophical poem by Maud Kennedy that Townshend put to music). Transferred from the two track 1/4 analog masters on the Bernie Grundman all tube cutting system and pressed on Classic s 200g QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile.
Track Listing:
1. Pure & Easy
2. Evolution
3. Forever's No Time At All
4. Let's See Action
5. Time Is Passing

Warm Your Heart - A star studded effort on Neville's part, collaborating

includes Feels Like Rain, Ave Maria, Please Stay, Feels Like Rain,
Angola Bound as well as the hit Close Your Eyes as a duet with Ronstadt.
This longtime audiophile favorite was produced by Neville, Ronstadt and
George Massenburg who also engineered and mixed the tracks. This is one of
those records that gets to the end of a side too quickly; but what a delight
when you turn it over to play the other side! Mastered from the original
master tapes and cut on an all tube cutting system by Bernie The Wizard
Grundman.

 Life for Rent
Dido
$32.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock
|
Life for Rent doesn't offer anything that drastically different from Dido's debut album, No Angel the dance beats are fresher, the production is clean and new Dido is successful at modest songs. She has a sweet, warm voice and a knack for tuneful modern folk-pop that sounds intimate while being confidently catchy and nicely atmospheric. In other words, it retains the feel of No Angel but contributing songs like White Flag, Stoned, Life for Rent, and Do You Have a Little Time, which are all memorable efforts. The appeal of Life for Rent is what makes Dido appealing she's unassuming and gentle, but her songs are so melodic and atmospheric they easily work their way into the subconscious, and the records are well-crafted enough to be engaging on repeated plays. So, Life for Rent isn't much different than its predecessor, but that's a very good thing in this case as this will surely become an audiophile favorite, cut from the original master on the Bernie Grundman all tube cutting system and pressed on Classic s 180g QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile.

The stunning new 4-disc 45rpm release of this classic album! An audiophile favorite on vinyl and commercial success upon its release in 1978. Radio stations that program easy listening took to it immediately and continue to play cuts from it today. Utilizing many of Nelson's usual country bandmates to augment the unique arrangements by producer Booker T. Jones.

 Porgy & Bess (200 Gram)
Ray Charles
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
Temporarily out of stock

This is the famous version of Porgy and Bess that was supposed to have Gladys Knight singing the part of Bess. When Ray Charles offered the part to Gladys, having just come of the hit Midnight train to Georgia, her manager at the time, would only allow her to participate if she owned the masters. According to Ray, he said, well now you know that just won't be possible to which her manager responded that she wouldn't be available. Ray told me that his mother taught him the meaning of NO and hence he asked Cleo Laine, who did a beautiful job of singing the part. Ray was also in top form as this 2 LP edition mastered from the original analog masters shows very clearly. Now available on 200g Quiex Super Vinyl Profile for the first time. A must have!

 Birdy
Peter Gabriel
$32.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock
|
Peter Gabriel's first foray into soundtracks was for Alan Parker's
contemplative film Birdy and is a successful companion piece, providing a
backdrop that is moody and evocative. Nearly half of the album's dozen
tracks incorporate threads from material found on Gabriel's 1982 Security
set, including Close Up, which makes use of keyboard passages from Family
Snapshot, and The Heat, which is a reworking of The Rhythm of the Heat
and builds to a frenzied percussive crescendo. Material specially written
for this project includes the murky opening track, At Night, the tribal
Floating Dogs, and Slow Marimbas, a track which would become part of
future live performances. The fact that Birdy is comprised of all
instrumentals and its meditative nature makes it fine, reflective listening
for the more adventurous. The transfer was from the original two track 1/2
analog master tapes provided by Peter Gabriel's Real World for cutting the
master lacquers. The detail, clarity and bottom octave weight are superb!
Track Listing:
1. At Night
2. Floating Dogs
3. Quiet and Alone
4. Close Up
5. Slow Water
6. Dressing the Wound
7. Birdy's Flight

 Casino Royale
Burt Bacharach
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
One of the most debated over and sought after audiophile
titles, Casino Royale has graced many Top Ten lists for
decades. This quirky soundtrack, to the equally zany James
Bond spoof, features music and arrangements by the prolific
and very hip Burt Bacharach. The highlight of the set is a
breathy rendition of The Look of Love, by the late Dusty
Springfield. The main theme and supporting incidental
music are by Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass. The sound
captured by the young engineer (but soon-to-be Super Producer,
Phil Ramone) is still stunning, more than 30 years later.
Track Listing:
1. Casino Royale Theme - Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass
2. The Look of Love - Dusty Springfield (vocal) & Hal David (lyric)
3. Money Penny Goes For Broke

Classic Records is proud to announce the reintroduction of the long out of
print best selling Classic - Belafonte at Carnegie Hall. This two LP
gatefold edition features authentic original artwork and labels and was
transferred from the original three track session master tapes. Using the
original Classic metal parts Classic has now re-released this legendary
title on our proprietary 200 gram QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile. What are the
differences between our original 180g conventional profile pressings and the
new QUIEX SV-P pressings? For one, the clarity is greatly enhanced.
Belafonte feels more in the room because of the added low level spatial
information that now comes through. The new QUIEX SV-P pressing is flat
across the record profile which provides better coupling to the platter
surface thereby reducing resonant feedback. Also, the flat profile greatly
reduces groove distortion that is present in conventional concave profiles
- this makes the playback level seem louder due to the reduced groove
distortion. All things considered this 200 gram QUIEX SV-P pressing is the
closet to the sound on the master tape as we have ever been able to achieve!
Alas, it is too bad that it is not at 45 rpm.....maybe next year!

Diana Krall sings like she truly loves the holidays and holiday songs. On this beautiful production by Tommy LiPuma and Al Schmidt, Diana is accompanied by the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra
on tunes including holiday standards like "Jingle Bells" , "Let it Snow", "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "White Christmas." and "I'll Be Home for Christmas". What makes this album truly special is the fact that it holds up as both a Christmas album and as a jazz record. Continuing where his debut left off, Morgans second LP in 1956 as a leader for Blue Note, finds the teen prodigy (still only 18) slowly emerging out from the long shadow of his idol and mentor Clifford Brown and feeling his own way among giants. You can hear his confidence growing in his solos, energized and fed by the company he has been keeping rather than any intimidation or hesitation at all. Excellent ensemble work must be credited to Benny Golson, who arranged four of the six numbers on the date. Led by a three-horn assault of Morgans trumpet, BN regular Hank Mobley on tenor and the fairly obscure altoist Kenny Rodgers, they cruise through a variety of tempos and moods, the highlights being their memorable takes on Whisper Not and Where Am I? As expected, Horace Silvers piano, Paul Chambers bass and the drumming of Charlie Persip ! is both impeccable and tasteful throughout. Other selections include Latin Hangover, His Sister, Ds Funk and Slightly Hep Extremely hep is more like it. Mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman on Classic's ALL TUBE PURE MONO cutting system (not like others who
use a stereo cutting head which imparts crosstalk onto the groove cut) and pressed onto 200 gram QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile for maximum fidelity. Jackets are authentic tip-on and laminated (front only) as were the originals - and the labels have the desirable deep groove. Another installment in the Classic Blue Note Signature Mono LP Series.

1. Whisper Not
2. Latin Hangover
3. His Sister
4. Slightly Hep

Come Away With Me (200 Gram)
Norah Jones
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Norah Jones's debut on Blue Note is a mellow, acoustic pop affair with soul
and country overtones, immaculately produced by the great Arif Mardin. (It's
pretty much an open secret that the 22-year-old vocalist and pianist is the
daughter of Ravi Shankar.) Jones is not quite a jazz singer, but she is
joined by some highly regarded jazz talent: guitarists Adam Levy, Adam
Rogers, Tony Scherr, Bill Frisell, and Kevin Breit; drummers Brian Blade,
Dan Rieser, and Kenny Wolleson; organist Sam Yahel; accordionist Rob Burger;
and violinist Jenny Scheinman. Her regular guitarist and bassist, Jesse
Harris and Lee Alexander, respectively, play on every track and also serve
as the chief songwriters. Both have a gift for melody, simple yet elegant
progressions, and evocative lyrics. (Harris made an intriguing guest
appearance on Seamus Blake's Stranger Things Have Happened.) Jones, for her
part, wrote the title track and the pretty but slightly restless
Nightingale. She also includes convincing readings of Hank Williams's
Cold Cold Heart, J.D. Loudermilk's Turn Me On, and Hoagy Carmichael's
The Nearness of You. There's a touch of Rickie Lee Jones in Jones's voice,
a touch of Bonnie Raitt in the arrangements; her youth and her piano skills
could lead one to call her an Alicia Keys for grown-ups. While the mood of
this record stagnates after a few songs, it does give a strong indication of
Jones' alluring talents.

1. Don't Know Why

A one-off recording for the Colpix label in 1963, this set by "Mr. Five-By-Five"
further demonstrates the man could swing and sell a ballad, all with the same
conviction and style. A veteran of the Blue Devils, Benny Moten's band and the
early Count Basie ensembles, he became along with Big Joe Turner, one of the top
"blues shouters" in the Kansas City mode. As with most of the now-collectable
Colpix/Colgems recordings of the 1960s, the sound on this Rushing set is incredible, having been transferred
directly from the original 3 track masters, capturing the intimacy of his phrasing while letting the backing musicians cut
through in a crystal clear accompaniment.

 Double Bass

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Gary Karr became an audiophile favorite largely as a result of the King Super Analogue recording of Albinonis Adagio in G minor played by Gary Karr on solo bass with organ accompaniment. In 1959, Gary Karr made his first record entitled Gary Karr Plays Double Bass a collection of pieces from Eccles, Ravel, Bloch and others for Golden Crest Records. A few years later a second recording of Alec Wilder compositions for Bass and Piano and Bass and Guitar was also released on Golden Crest. On this outstanding second effort Gary Karr is accompanied by Bernie Leighton on piano and Fredrick Hand on guitar. After auditioning the master tapes we decided that these two wonderful recordings by a stellar bass musician needed to be reissued which is what we have done here by combining the recordings into a two disc set as part of the Classic Records Presents Series. Both titles were mastered and transferred by Bernie Grundman in Hollywood California from the original analog master tapes and cut on Classic Records All Tube cutting system. If you are a Gary Karr fan then this is a must have release, If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Bass then these recording are a great place to start.

 Capuchin Swing
Jackie McLean

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl MONO LP - Sealed

Considered one of his strongest Blue Note outings, Capuchin Swing basically forced McLean to bring in some heavyweights to help define and deliver his vision. First and foremost was Blue Mitchells forceful trumpet, chosen to counterpoint the leaders alto, that was in a feisty mood of its own throughout the sessions. Having Walter Bishop, Jr. on piano, Paul Chambers bass and Art Taylor banging skins frees the leaders mind of worry rhythm-wise, allowing him and Mitchell to co-explore new heights of interplay. The intensity on McLean originals such as Francisco, Condition Blue and the title tune are both riveting and sometimes draining, while Bishop contributes both Just For Now plus another dedication to the label founder, On The Lion. This Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series release was mastered and cut on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system allowing the listener to hear the music as Rudy Van Gelder mixed and intended it to be heard in PURE MONO with no faux stereo artifacts from using a stereo cutter head! Another one of Blue Notes multi-talents who, as did label-mate Ike Quebec, besides recording a cadre of well-received albums, went on to produce titles for the label. Gene Taylors bass and Lex Humphries drumming perfectly complete and balance the triad, with strong arrangements of On Green Dolphin Street, When Sunny Gets Blue and Im A Fool To Want You. An excellent 1960 get-together with some fresh faces joining altoist LD. Long under-valued trumpeter Bill Hardman and especially pianist Duke Pearson assist in infusing probably more soul than even Donaldson expected into the arrangements. Augmented by Al Harewoods impeccable timekeeping and Sam Jones and Laymon Jackson splitting time at the bass, the result is a fine mix, with strong writing contributions all-around. Attention should be paid to the originals offered up by Donaldson (The Truth, Goose Grease), Parlan (Blues for J.P) and Hardman (Politely), as should the smooth takes on the commonalities Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise, The Man I Love and Its You Or No One. Mastered and cut on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and cutter head makes this the definitive version of this LP and possibly better than impossible to find original copies!

The Healer was oddly a major mainstream breakthrough for John Lee Hooker. The album was one of the first to feature a wide array of guest stars, including Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos and Carlos Santana. The album immediately captured widespread media attention because of all the superstar musicians involved in its production and has to date been John Lee's most successful release. Recorded in analog and mixed to 1/4 15ips analog tape, the sound is better than almost any other Hooker recording. Transferred from the original 1/4 analog tapes by Bernie Grundman using Classic's all tube cutting system, gives this release a warmth and comfort it has never had. Tubular Bells
Mike Oldfield
$49.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP -Sealed
|
MIKE OLDFIELD's TUBULAR BELLS: A quintessential studio production in pop music lore, Mike Oldfield conceived an eclectic mix of both standard and odd instruments, along with classical and rock elements, to achieve a steadily building, layered texture, totally unheard of at the time. After being shopped and rejected at other labels, Richard Branson chose it as the first release for his Virgin Records in 1972. Originally tagged with the working title Opus 1, Oldfield, who had been playing and recording professional since his teens, oversaw the entire production and played most of the parts himself, eventually layering over thirty different instruments and sounds. Listeners had fun trying to identify each and remember the order they appeared, as the late Vivian Stanshall (Bonzo Dog Band) ceremoniously announced each as it joined the mix. The original LP eventually sold over 16 million copies and topped the UK charts for weeks. The eerie opening section was famously featured in the soundtrack to the motion-picture The Exorcist, winning the Grammy in 1974 for Best Instrumental Composition. The original master tapes were used to cut both the original issue and this reissue making the original issue hard to best. With Chris Bellman doing the mastering honors using Classic's all tube cutting system and being pressed on Classic's proprietary Super Vinyl Profile sheds new light on, and a slight nod to the Classic reissue of, this longstanding audiophile favorite.

 Aqualung
Jethro Tull
$59.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP -Sealed

1971 saw the release of some of the greatest pop/rock albums of all time. Imagine, Pearl, Sticky Fingers, Whos Next, Tupelo Honey, Surfs Up, Fragile, Led Zeps IV, Muswell Hillbillies, Tapestry, Whats Going On? and both Madman Across the Water and Tumbleweed Connection are just some of the iconic titles that hit the stores that year. Add Aqualung and thats quite an output for a twelve month span. Generally considered the pinnacle of the bands recorded output, front-man Ian Andersons songwriting was quickly evolving from British folk-blues roots and helping define prog-rock. While definitely pushing the envelope for the era in taking on the subjects of God and organized religion, it was guitarist Martin Barre who was establishing equal ground with Andersons flute as an instrumental voice of the band. Joining Tull after Toni Iommi (Black Sabbath) who himself had replaced original guitarist Mick Abrahams (Blodwyn Pig, Mick Abrahams Band) departed after only a few days, both Barres opening riffs and lead breaks became indelibly imprinted to generations of classic rock. Songs such as My God, Hymn 43, Locomotive Breath, Cross-Eyed Mary, Wind Up and of course the title tune became FM radio staples and are in-demand concert favorites to this day. The Classic Records reissue of Aqualung was cut from the original analog master tapes obtained from Ian Anderson on Classic's all tube cutting system by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman mastering. This version features, for the first time since the original Chrysalis release, an authentic faux linen textured gatefold jacket and original label art.

Lou Donaldson With The Three Sounds

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed

A perfect pairing from 1959 of fellow Blue Note roster mates that result in one of Donaldsons finest pure bop sessions. The trio, anchored by pianist Gene Harris, is a cool departure from standard quintets the front man normally had been booking. Lous tenor is the focal point, front and center of course but the threesome, completed by Andy Simpkins on bass and Bill Dowdy behind the drum kit, takes a backseat to no one. With ample support and balance, they assist LD in re-defining Tin Pan Alley ditties such as Blue Moon and Three Little Words into hardened jazz romps while bringing plenty to the table on Donaldson originals such as Smooth Groove and Jump Up. Another installment in the Classic Blue Note Signature LP reissue Series featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Mastered and cut on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system from tape head to cutter head makes this the definitive version of this LP and possibly better than impossible to find original copies!

Along with his Songs For My Father, Blowin The Blues Away constantly ranks as one of pianist Horace Silvers finest group of original compositions. For decades, only former band-mate in the original Jazz Messengers ensemble, Art Blakey, could match Silver in ears for talent and the feeding grounds their groups became, spawning players who later became jazz giants. The group assembled here is no exception. This exact line-up would eventually stay in-tack, becoming the incarnation of the first Blue Mitchell Quintet, with Chick Corea replacing Silver. The afore-mentioned Blue Mitchell along with Junior Cook on tenor, Gene Taylors bass and drummer Louis Hayes help Silver deliver a fine mix of tempos including the ballad Peace and the gospel/soul-tinged Sister Sadie, both of which became jazz standards. On The St. Vitus Dance and Melancholy Mood, Silver reverts back to his early trio days with confidence and imagination. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system from tape head to cutter head and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers.

Having to follow four monumental releases in succession, The Who By Numbers is often overlooked and unfairly overshadowed. Produced again by Glyn Johns and released in 1975, the album is a more modest, simple affair, certainly withstanding the test of time by its own merits. In what might be his most personal tell-all collection (outside of some of his future solo albums), Pete Townshend lays it out there in lyrics of brutal honesty regarding battles with alcoholism and womanizing. Probably best known for the radio-friendly ditty Squeeze Box, the set also contains patented Who in the terms of Slip Kid, Blue Red and Grey plus one of bassist John Entwistles best compositions, Success Story. London studio regular Nicky Hopkins adds tasteful keyboard fills throughout. As part of the Classic Who LP reissue series, this title was mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original analog master tapes sourced directly from The Who. The lacquers were cut on Classic Records ALL ANALOG TUBE cutting system with LPs pressed on Classics Super Vinyl Profile for maximum playback fidelity. Authentic UK artwork and labels are meticulously reproduced making this another MUST HAVE Classic reissue!

This 1959 12 is made up of two distinct sessions, including Jackie McLeans first as a leader for the label. These sides helped establish him as one of the finest young alto voices on the jazz scene. Although a strong album through-and-through, the strongest material lay in the interplay between the altoist and the still under-appreciated tenor Tina Brooks. A great and unique alto/tenor tandem was born and sadly short-lived, due to Brooks demise at a young age. But the handful of selections they were able to create on this and a few other Blue Note releases are superb. Donald Byrd, Blue Mitchell, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Paul Chambers, Sonny Clark, Kenny Drew and Billy Mitchell collectively make McLeans album debut, memorable. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Living With War (200 Gram)
Neil Young
$49.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Excuse me, is this 1969, during the time when Rock bands released an
album every nine to twelve months and they
were all great? Last summer Neil Young recorded what will likely be
remembered as one of his best albums ever in
Prairie Wind and then eight months later delivers a new protest
album that will make, even the most conservative thinkers,
rethink the state of the world. Maybe it takes the wisdom of time
and experience to drill down to the heart of
issues these days instead of the open mindedness of youth as in the
past. It isn't one of the newer bands on the scene shining
a light on the ugly side of human nature, they are all trying to sell
a million records ( make that five million records) so that they
buy that house in the Hills. Instead it is the old man of ROCK AND
ROLL that delivers the familiar one two punch that makes
people question the course we are on. Regardless of your politics,
Living WIth War will rock your world and hit a chord that
needs to be struck.

 Who's Next (140 Gram)
The Who

At the beginning of the 70s, the impact of Tommy weighed heavily on Pete Townshend's shoulders. How on earth would he and the Who top such a successful and important album? The guitarist-songwriter felt he had to take his music and its conceptual strains one step further. He began writing a futuristic fable that would transcend itself beyond the usual conventions of modern music. Intended to be a film, a play, a concert, a mega multimedia and cerebral experience - Townshend called his new project Lifehouse. And although Lifehouse would stay frozen on the blocks for another 30 years, its seeds sprouted the Who's most cohesive and consistent effort, Who's Next. How Townshend's ambitious follow-up ended up as Who's Next isn't easy to discern. After several false starts and a break with Who manager/mentor, Kit Lambert, the record was eventually rescued and shaped by producer/engineer, Glyn Johns. Much of Townshend's vision was contained within his extensive demos -- bits and pieces of a loosely constructed storyline set against experimental melodies and basic backbeats. The album's opening track, Baba O'Riley, was originally an elongated cycle of synthesizer loops. What it became was an anthem, highlighted by a tumultuous build, Dave Arbus' rambling violin and Roger Daltrey's acclamation of a Teenage Wasteland. The thunder is sustained by the contagious Bargain - now, like so much of the Who's music, a commercial jingle. Love Ain't For Keeping chugs away against a fierce acoustic rhythm while John Entwistle's sole contribution of My Wife remains one of his most electrifying songs. This Song Is Over features Nicky Hopkins' incomparable piano work and ends with a chorus pulled from Pure And Easy, the central number of Lifehouse that failed to make the final cut, but would resurface three years later on the Odds And Sods compilation. The theme is maintained on Getting In Tune, reintroduced during the Who's most recent tour, and Going Mobile, a track with Townshend on lead vocals that recounts a couple of Lifehouse's characters cruising the streets in a Cadillac. It's the album's two singles that set up the grand finale. Behind Blue Eyes and Won't Get Fooled Again are adrenaline-filled powder kegs that capture the Who in their most primal state. Keith Moon's drumming is as wild as ever, yet enduringly steady. Entwistle's sturdy bass and Townshend's barking guitar rise and shift as Daltrey's signature scream radiates with emotion and authority during the climax. This is arguably one of the Who's greatest triumphs ever put on record. And indisputably one of the most definitive moments in all of rock and roll. - Review by Shawn Perry Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman mastering from the original two track 1/4 analog master tapes, cut on the Classic All Tube cutting system, and pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g Quiex Super Vinyl Profile. This release also features original Track labels and artwork. Arguably one of Rock's greatest recordings - enough said!

in both a humorous mockery and tribute to Britain's pirate radio scene, complete with faux commercials written and performed by the band, interspersed between songs.

 The Experience Sessions

Noel Redding: The Experience Sessions presents a
collection of rare and previously unreleased studio recordings made by
Redding during his two-and-threequarter-year tenure with the Jimi Hendrix
Experience, and also contains the master takes of his two stand-out original
compositions, Electric LadylandLittle Miss Strange and Axis: Bold As
Love. Previously unreleased alternate recordings of these
two essential tracks are included, offering fascinating insight into the
inner-workings of the group in the studio. This disc is also a cause for
celebration simply for the fact that three of the tracks, the previously
unissued Nothing Wrong Noels?¬âz?¢???s Tune [Take plus an
out-of-print live rendition of Red House, feature blistering guitar work
from Jimi Hendrix. The basic rhythm track of the album opener, There Aint Nothing Wrong, was recorded December 28, 1967 by Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell,
and Traffic guitarist Dave Mason during the Electric Ladyland sessions, and
it is a thrill to hear previously unearthed examples of Jimis genius
during this highly creative period for himself and the band. This recording
is particularly unique in that Noel, under the direction of former Jimi
Hendrix Experience producer Chas Chandler in 1989, composed lyrics, recorded
a lead vocal, and added new bass parts to this previously unissued Jimi
Hendrix session. Noel s Tune [Take1], recorded days after the Experiences historic February 24, 1969 performance at London s Royal Albert
Hall, is a rave-up rocker featuring Noel pounding away on funky rhythm
guitar while Jimi adds appropriately intense guitar work. Red House recorded live at the Olympia Theater in Paris on January 29, 1968, is a rare
example of Noel recreating the studio take by forgoing the use of the bass
in favor of bass-heavy rhythm guitar; Jimi s playing on this high-energy
track is simply spectacular. It was in the aftermath of the release of
Axis: Bold As Love that Noel began to develop new solo material in earnest.
Noel Redding: The Experience Sessions presents the much sought-after
unreleased tracks Dream and Walking Through the Garden, both of which
feature Noel on guitar and Jimi on bass, plus a previously unissued demo of How Can I Live? Noel would later re-record the song without Hendrix and
include the new version as part of his first post-Experience release, Fat
Mattress. Mastered from the original analog master tapes, under the
supervision of Eddie Kramer, by George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York
and released in cooperation with Experience Hendrix by Classic on our
140 gram burgundy. Rock at its finest!

Now Classic Records brings back this legendary title for the first time on our Quiex 200g Super Vinyl Profile. George Marino and Eddie Kramer mastered and cut the lacquers from the original analog two track masters at Sterling Sound in New York with Michael Fremer in attendance in 1998. The legend lives on as do our memories of one of Rock's greatest performers - Jimi Hendrix.

The first of three solo albums by the ex-Genesis singer,
all to be officially released as only Peter Gabriel. In
time, the three would take on also-known-as nicknames
based on the front-cover artwork of each. This volume is
usually referred to as Peter Gabriel (I, Car). In 1977
there was much anticipation for the first solo effort from
the flamboyant Gabriel. Three years had passed since his
swan song with Genesis. He had certainly exited on a high
note indeed with The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. While fans
shouldn't have worried about the survival of Genesis without
their original lead singer, neither would they be disappointed
in his solo debut. Produced by Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice
Cooper), he addressed the split with his band mates in the
allegoric hit Solsbury Hill, while retaining the art-rock
sensibilities he had pioneered. The balance of the album,
transferred from the artist's personal original master tapes,

A Stereo copy of Lonely and Blue, Orbison's first Monument release in 1961,

truely compare the Mono and Stereo versions of the titles cut from the same
two track original masters that were originally used for the first issues.
The Mono is cut from a folding of the stereo channels as specified by Porter

 Another Scoop
Pete Townshend
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
A second collected volume of demo versions of songs destined to be considered for recording by The Who, this 1987 release on Atco Records is as an even stronger collection than it's 1983 predecessor. It (again) contains rough, acoustic workups of many Who standards in their infant form such as You Better You Bet, Pinball Wizard, Happy Jack, Substitute, Pictures of Lily and The Kids Are Alright among others. The curiosity lies solely in the head-arrangements on songs that were to become associated with time and enveloped within, Roger Daltry's vocal gymnastics. Here, sung by Townshend himself, one can sense the writer's distinct persona. . The comparison to eventual more famous versions is fascinating in most cases. The exposure of these workups reveals how great these songs really are, stripped down. Other selections include Girl In A Suitcase, Brooklyn Kids, Football Fugue, Long Live Rock, Call me Lightning, Holly Like Ivy, Begin The Beguine, Vicious Interlude, La-La-Lies, Cat Snatch, Prelude ##556, Baroque Ippenese, Praying The Game, Drifting Blues, Christmas, Don't Let Go The Coat, Prelude: The Right To Write, Never Ask Me, Ask Yourself, The Ferryman and The Shout.

A surprising twist and gutsy call from the Texas outlaw-Nashville outcast, choosing to wrap his trademark twang around what are considered pop standards. An audiophile favorite on vinyl and commercial success upon its release in 1978. Radio stations that program easy listening took to it immediately and continue to play cuts from it today. Utilizing many of Nelson's usual country bandmates to augment the unique arrangements by producer Booker T. Jones.

 The Little Willies
Norah Jones
$39.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

The self-titled debut by The Little Willies is an album that perfectly distills the fun, down-to-earth spirit of this New York bands club shows. The group Lee Alexander (bass), Jim Campilongo (electric guitar), Norah Jones (piano, vocals), Richard Julian (guitar, vocals) and Dan Rieser (drums) tears through a mix of covers and originals, from the revved-up western swing of Fred Roses Roly Poly and Willie Nelsons I Gotta Get Drunk to the cutting wit of Kris Kristoffersons Best Of All Possible Worlds; from the poignancy of Townes Van Zandts No Place To Fall to the cosmic absurdity of their own Lou Reed.
The Little Willies formed for purely practical reasons. In 2003, the group of five friends, who were all individually involved in other projects, booked a gig at The Living Room on New Yorks Lower East Side as an excuse to spend an evening playing music together. They soon discovered that they shared a deep musical vernacular.

 Blues Walk (200 Gram)
Lou Donaldson
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
An alto player originally deep-rooted in bop, who by the late fifties was beginning to shed his Charlie Parker influences and take a more bluesy/soul approach. Blues Walk, from a one-day session in July of '58 has attained unanimous five-star status with the title track itself becoming one the leader's signature tunes.
1. Blues Walk
2. Move
3. The Masquerade is Over
4. Play Ray
5. Autumn Nocturne
6. Callin' All Cats

A Night at the Village Vanguard
Sonny Rollins

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock

Between March 1956 and November 1957, Sonny Rollins recorded two albums that would cement forever his rightful place as a jazz icon. Saxophone Colossus for Prestige in 56 would become a jazz masterpiece while the live trio recordings for Blue Note in late 1957 at the Village Vanguard would show another side of Rollins altogether. His some-what daring use of basically replacing the piano with his tenor, was not new for him nor, would it be the last time; his Way Out West in early 1957 was a breakthrough landmark and later, Freedom Suite in 1958 would be his return to the triad. Operating at his creative peak, Rollins was making the art of extended soloing his own and was able to both focus and stretch each song out in extemporaneous thoughts and whims. From an! aftern oon set he locked horn with bassist Don Bailey and drummer Pete LaRoca on the famous rendition of A Night In Tunisia. The evening set found the highly underrated Wilbur Ware on bass and the great Elvin Jones behind the skins, resulting in The Ol Devil Moon, Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise, Sonnymoon For Two, I Cant Get Started, and Strivers Row. Simply one of the greatest and most powerful live dates in the history of recorded jazz. Mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman on Classic's "ALL TUBE PURE MONO" cutting system (not like others who
use a stereo cutting head which imparts "crosstalk" onto the groove cut) and pressed onto 200 gram QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile for maximum fidelity. Jackets are authentic "tip-on" and laminated (front only) as were the originals - and the labels have the desirable "deep groove". Another installment in the Classic Blue Note Signature Mono LP Series.
Track Listing:
1. Old Devil Moon
2. Softly As in a Morning Sunrise
3. Striver's Row
4. Sonnymoon For Two
5. A Night In Tunisia
6. I Can't Get Started

 City Lights (MONO)
Lee Morgan

200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed

Signed to the label when he only eighteen years old, this jazz prodigy, who cut his teeth as a Jazz Messengers with the great Art Blakey, proceeded to record a stream of impressive records as a leader for Blue Note. At the ripe old age nineteen, Morgan helmed the City Lights sessions in August of 1957 at Rudy Van Gelders Hackensack site. The all-star sextet tackles arrangements provided by the likes of Benny Golson and Gigi Gryce that are a perfect fit to their collective playing. Curtis Fuller on trombone, George Coleman blowing both alto and tenor, Ray Bryant at the piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylors drumming add to Morgans trumpet that produced a classic of 50s modern jazz. Cut on Classic's all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie "be-bop" Grundman from
the original full track mono master tapes and pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile. Another "must have" installment in Classic Blue Note Signature Mono LP Series.

1. A Night In Tunisia
2. Heavy Dipper

 Bud (MONO)
Bud Powell
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl Mono LP - Sealed

The third and quite possibly the best, of a trio of recordings for Blue Note that are considered a triumph for this tortured artist. One of the true architects of be-bop,
Powells recording history, like his personal life, experienced extreme highs and lows. Before moving to Europe, Blue Note was able to capture him in variety of groupings. This August 3, 1957 date from Rudy Van Gelders Hackensack studio is damn near sheer perfection. Trio-mates Art Taylor on drums and Paul Chambers bass offer the perfect compliment to Powells five original compositions, with an outpouring of swing, blues and improvisation. A unique choice of a complimenting horn finds a quite young Curtis Fuller on trombone on three standards. Powell adds a fun break in the action with his s! olo, ba roque-bop Bud On Bach.

2. Blue Pearl
3. Frantic Fancies

Two separate sessions, from July 1956 and February 1957 make up this 12 release, recorded by RVG at his Hackensack studio. Trumpeter Jones decided to utilize two distinct groups of supporting players and the results are interesting contrasts in structure. Rounding out the quartet date with just a rhythm section of Barry Harriss piano, Percy Heath on bass and drummer Max Roach, Thads trumpet is the main focal point. On the quintet date, Jones adds Benny Powells trombone and Gigi Gryce on alto sax for the front line, with Tommy Flanagan at the piano, George Duvivier on bass and his brother Elvin banging the skins. Sharp, tight playing from both groups, especially on Ive Got A Crush On You and Ill Wind highlight this collection. Mastered and cut on an all tube pure mono cutting system by Bernie Grundman. Pressed on Classic's proprietary 200g super vinyl profile for the best and most authentic sound possible
