 Who's Next
The Who
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Ranked 28/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Who's Next is regarded by many as The Who's masterpiece which says a lot considering the group's legendary output. Originally, Pete Townshend intended these songs for the massive multimedia extravaganza, Lifehouse which was eventually abandoned. Producer Glyn Johns convinced Townshend and the Who to present the best of this material as a straightforward Rock & Roll record and it resulted in some of the group's most focused and powerful work ever produced. Bookended by the classics Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again, Who's Next is one of the defining albums of '70s hard rock from one of the greatest bands of all time. Reissued here on 180g Vinyl!

 Aftermath
Rolling Stones, The
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Ranked 108/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Aftermath, first released on 15 April 1966 by Decca Records, is the fourth British studio album by The Rolling Stones. It was released in the United States on 20 June 1966 by London Records as their sixth American album. The album proved to be a major artistic breakthrough for the band, being the first full-length release by the band to consist exclusively of Mick Jagger/Keith Richards compositions. Aftermath was also the first Rolling Stones album to be recorded entirely in the US, at the legendary RCA Studios in Hollywood, California at 6363 Sunset Boulevard, and the first album the band released in true stereo.
The album is also notable for its musical experimentation, with Brian Jones playing a variety of instruments not usually associated with rock music—including sitar on "Paint It, Black" and "Mother's Little Helper", the Appalachian dulcimer on "Lady Jane" and "I Am Waiting", the marimbas (African xylophone) on "Under My Thumb" and "Out of Time", harmonica on "High and Dry" and "Goin' Home", as well as guitar and keyboards. Much of the music was still rooted in Chicago electric blues.
Track Listing:
1 Paint It Black

3 Lady Jane
4 Under My Thumb
5 Doncha Bother Me
6 Think
7 Flight 505
8 High and Dry

 Music From The Big Pink
The Band
$20.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Ranked 34/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The Band's 1968 debut, Music From Big Pink was released at the height of the psychedelic revolution and its earthy and more roots oriented sound turned the music world on its ear. Considered to be the group's most democratic effort before Robbie Robertson would emerge as the ensemble's leader, the 11 song set features songs from Robertson, bassist Rick Danko, pianist Richard Manuel and Bob Dylan. The album is arguably the purest distillation of the Band and in many ways, their preeminent recording. Music From Big Pink's rustic beauty and fresh blend of country, rock, folk and classical R&B made it an instant homespun classic and a crowning achievement. Includes one of the Band's best known originals in The Weight.

1. Tears of Rage

|
Ranked 45/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The Band's 1979 eponymous release is in many ways more deliberate and even more accomplished than their debut, partially due to the fact that guitarist Robbie Robertson had taken over the songwriting, writing or co-writing all 12 songs. The album effectively mixes the kind of mournful songs like Whispering Pines and When You Awake, that had dominated Music from Big Pink, with rollicking uptempo numbers like Rag Mama Rag and Up on Cripple Creek. Again, the groups' overall sound stands out the most, with their timeless arrangements and expressive singing from Manuel, Helm and Danko. Music from Big Pink is a classic in its own right, but The Band stands as their masterpiece.
Track Listing:
1. Across the Great Divide
2. Rag Mama Rag

$39.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Fans of Neil Young and Crazy Horse waited years to hear the band live with original leader Danny Whitten, the talented guitarist who was lost to a heroin overdose in 1972, and this incredible collection of well-produced and well-performed live tracks performed at the Fillmore East was well worth the wait! The long-anticipated first live release from Young's personal archives, 1970's Live at the Fillmore East also happened to feature Miles Davis on the same bill no less and was only heard on various bootleg versions before this release. On tour in support of the album Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere, the recording features Young backed by Crazy Horse plus renowned arranger and future collaborator, the late Jack Nitzsche on piano. Staples such as Down By The River, Cowgirl In The Sand and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere get the full on stretched out treatment that Young's shows would become known for. A great slice of prime Neil Young and friends in all their raw, ragged, rockin' glory. Mastered and cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood from analog master tapes prepared by John Nowland at Neil Young's Studio. All Classic/Reprise Neil Young vinyl issues including Live at Fillmore East, are pressed only on Classic's proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile.

Vinyl LP- 2 LPs Sealed

On their tour promoting Daylight Again, Crosby, Stills & Nash played three nights at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles over the Thanksgiving Day weekend in 1982 and they taped and filmed the shows for a TV special. The Dutch Immortal label has now licensed the audio tracks for this 21-song set and it chronicles a high point in the band's legendary career. The set for Live In L.A. draws from CSN's back catalog of hits and favorites, starting with an electric set that gives way to an extended acoustic segment that further breaks down into solo spots and then revving back up for an electric finish before sending the crowd out with a singalong of Teach Your Children and the folk blues Daylight Again. Along with the CSN hits, there are occasional borrowings from the individuals' repertoire (Crosby & Nash's Wind on the Water suite, Stills' For What It's Worth from his Buffalo Springfield days and a CSN arrangement of the Beatles' Blackbird).

Ranked 230/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Nothing succeeds like excess, at least that's the case with Queen's breakthrough classic, A Night At The Opera. On one level, the title is a reference to the band's operatic pretensions as evidenced here on the classic Bohemian Rhapsody. It also happens to be the title of a Marx Brothers movie, and the reference isn't lost on Queen, who seldom scaled the heights of pomprock without a knowing wink. The album is remembered for its meticulously produced bombast, but the truth is that there's a wide variety of material here, from the gorgeous piano-based You're My Best Friend and the McCartneyesque 39, to the music-hall-style Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon and the pedal-to-the-metal rockers Death on Two Legs and I'm in Love with My Car. A Night at the Opera is widely considered to be the quintessential Queen album and justifiably so.

Kansas

Temporarily out of stock

An abridged version of the career of the rock group Kansas reads rather like an American music fairy tale. In 1973 the band sent out a handful of demo tapes to various recording companies, one of which landed on Don Kirshner’s desk in New York. As luck had it, Kirshner was just building up his new label, and after he had satisfied himself that the group were pretty impressive when performing live, he offered them a contract. This was the end of Kansas as a supporting band, but also the beginning of pressure and stress to satisfy their success-hungry benefactor with a chart-topping hit.
Their fourth album, with its eternally popular "Carry On Wayward Son", brought the eagerly awaited breakthrough. "Leftoverture", named after the snippets (or left-overs) of unused melodies which were then worked on and expanded into the title Magnum Opus, went platinum four times over and is one of the most successful progressive rock recordings ever. Just how overwhelmed the music fans were and are by this extremely melodic, warm, and by no means harsh or metallic sound is evidenced by highly informative websites such as www.Kansasband.com or www.Kansasworld.de (also in English). Kansas fans who only have a tatty original LP from the 70s will certainly welcome this opportunity to get a top-quality replacement.

- Steve Walsh (organ, synth, piano, keyboard, vibraphone, vocal)
- Robbie Steinhardt (violin; viola, vocal)

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s – or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky“), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects – excluding the exception above – and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

2. The Wall

Ranked 150/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The self-titled 1969 debut by San Francisco ballroom favorite Santana single-handedly brought Latin rock into the mainstream. Full of steamy, percolating Latin percussion and leader Carlos Santanas stinging, razor-sharp guitar work, Santana was released in August of that year, the same month as the groups legendary appearance at Woodstock.
Bearing the smash hits "Evil Ways" and "Jingo," Sundazed's exact vinyl replica of this all-time classic rock staple is sourced directly from the original Columbia masters.

 Mr. Tambourine Man
The Byrds
$18.99
Heavy Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Ranked 232/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
One of the greatest debuts in the history of rock, Mr. Tambourine Man was nothing less than a significant step in the evolution of rock & roll itself, demonstrating that intelligent lyrical content could be wedded to compelling electric guitar riffs and a solid backbeat. It was also the album that was most responsible for establishing folk-rock as a popular phenomenon, its most alluring traits being Roger McGuinn's immediately distinctive 12-string Rickenbacker jangle and the band's beautiful harmonies. The material was uniformly strong, whether they were interpreting Bob Dylan (on the title cut and three other songs, including the hit single "All I Really Want to Do"), Pete Seeger ("The Bells of Rhymney"), or Jackie DeShannon ("Don't Doubt Yourself, Babe"). The originals were lyrically less challenging, but equally powerful musically, especially Gene Clark's "I Knew I'd Want You," "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better," and "Here Without You"; "It's No Use" showed a tougher, harder-rocking side and a guitar solo with hints of psychedelia

 Working On A Dream
Bruce Springsteen
$19.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Bruce Springsteen's new album Working on a Dream was recorded with the E Street Band and features twelve new Springsteen compositions plus the bonus tracks The Wrestler, from the Darren Aronofsky film of the same name and A Night With the Jersey Devil.
Springsteen explains, Towards the end of recording Magic, excited by the return to pop production sounds, I continued writing. When my friend producer Brendan O'Brien heard the new songs, he said, 'Let's keep going.' Over the course of the next year, that's just what we did, recording with the E Street Band during the breaks on last year's tour. I hope Working on a Dream has caught the energy of the band fresh off the road from some of the most exciting shows we've ever done. All the songs were written quickly, we usually used one of our first few takes, and we all had a blast making this one from beginning to end.
Working on a Dream is Bruce Springsteen's twenty-fourth album and it was recorded and mixed at Southern Tracks in Atlanta, GA with additional recording in New York City, Los Angeles and New Jersey.
Track Listing:
1. Outlaw Pete
2. My Lucky Day

 Turn! Turn! Turn!
The Byrds
$23.99
Heavy Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
To quote the original liner notes of The Byrds' second album, "Protests growled briefly and died in great, wheezing gasps. The Byrds, unfettered, looked the other way and sang love songs." In 1965, America was beginning to enter a time of vehement political and social division and if anyone was looking for a song that flawlessly described the time, the title track of this album was a Godsend...literally. Originally taken by Pete Seeger from the 3rd chapter of Ecclesiastes in the Bible, 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' was such a powerful anthem for all involved in the social unrest--both weary politicians and youths burning their draft cards--that the other songs on the album did not need to consist of other political messages. The Byrds decided one anthem was enough, and filled "Turn! Turn! Turn!" with great songs about love and searches for personal enlightenment.
The group's debut "Mr. Tambourine Man" had been largely carried by vocalist Gene Clark's creative originals, and four Bob Dylan covers among others. Clark's songs also carry "Turn! Turn! Turn!" when it comes to the creative output of the bandmembers, but Roger (Jim) McGuinn was establishing himself as the counterpart to Clark's work. The love songs he co-wrote, 'It Won't Be Wrong' and 'Wait and See' (co-authored by budding Byrd David Crosby) were not up to the standards of those set by Gene Clark, but his arranging of folk standards and 12-string Rickenbacker playing show his influence. McGuinn brilliantly turns an old folk song 'He Was A Friend Of Mine' into a beautiful lament for John F. Kennedy, the additional lyrics McGuinn added delicately describing the tragic assassination of a president. Also a nice move is the jangle of 'Oh Susannah,' which features great interplay between McGuinn's Rickenbacker and Michael Clarke's drum kit. 'Satisfied Mind' is one of the best covers the Byrds ever did, sincere and simple, and covers of 'The Times They Are-A Changing' and 'Lay Down Your Weary Tune' helped convince Dylan himself that the group was a solid talent. He told McGuinn "Up until I heard this ['Lay Down Your Weary Tune'] I thought you were just another immitator."
But Gene Clark again eclipses with his love songs; one of the most creative ballad writers of all time, Clark's songs were never cliched or tongue-in-cheek, and always down-to-Earth. 'If You're Gone' has to be one of his most moving vocal performances ever. 'Set You Free This Time' and 'The World Turns All Around Her' display the kind of songwriting the pop world needs today. His 'She Don't Care About Time' single is fortunately included as a bonus track on this remaster, along with another Clark masterpiece 'The Day Walk,' better known as 'Never Before.'
The "Turn! Turn! Turn!" album was a make it or break it for the Byrds; during this short time they rivalled the Beatles, and the massive success of the title track solidified their stance, if only for a brief time. But the other ten songs were what proved the group's talent, avoiding sophomore slumps and delivering some of the 60s greatest music. -- Bud Sturguess

Who Are You (200 Gram) (NEW PRESSING)
The Who
$34.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Sadly burdened with the trivia of being the last studio recording to feature drummer Keith Moon and thus closing the chapter on the band's original line-up, this 1978 release was also a major progression, not unlike what The Beatles and The Beach Boys undertook as they matured from their simple, rudimentary but still freakin' great early years.
In the three years since the release of Who By The Numbers, The Who foursome had undertaken solo projects and other individual interests. Finally reuniting after such an unusualy long hiatus, they recorded Who Are You between late 1977 and early '78, in a variety of London-area studios. Without a doubt, everyone in the world would have welcomed recycled Who akin to their first decade of hits. But simple, catchy rock riffs were to be superceded in more complex subjects and daring arrangements. Pete Townshend's observations of moving on and saying farewell (Sister Disco), the creative process (Guitar and Pen), FM radio and its banal recycled music (Music Must Change) and battles with alcohol (Who Are You) are some of his most poignant writings. Bassist John Entwistle contributes three songs, the most in any one Who album. 905, Had Enough and Trick Of The Light reflect some of his finest, often-overlooked, work.
The album peaked at No. 2 on the Pop chart in the U.S., most likely prevented from going No. 1 by to the Grease soundtrack. The lone single released, the title song Who Are You would become a concert staple, often expanded into a jam for Townshend's guitaristics, and then be licensed out in 2000 for the opening theme to the hit television show CSI: Crime Scene Investigations. This venerable Classic was re-mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood from the original analog master tapes provided by The Who.

1. New Song
2. Had Enough
3. 905
4. Sister Disco
5. Music Must Change

 Fork In The Road
Neil Young
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP
|
Recorded in 2008 between tour dates with his live band Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar, keyboards), Chad Cromwell (drums), Rick Rosas (bass), Pegi Young (vocals) and Anthony Crawford (vocals, guitar), Neil Young's newest offering Fork In The Road explores the dirty blues and the singer/songwriter's direct ruminations on his growing social and ecological concerns. The album's main themes center around Young's involvement with the Lincvolt Project, a joint effort between the singer and biodiesel pioneer Johnathan Goodwin to develop a commercially viable electric power system for automobiles. The prototype Lincvolt vehicle, Young's own 1959 Lincoln Continental, is now completely finished, and a documentary is planned about the car's first cross-country gasoline-free road trip to Washington, DC. Young even named one of the album's songs, Johnny Magic,' after his Lincvolt partner. Songs such as Cough Up the Bucks, Fuel Line, Hit the Road and Get Around also support Young's green leaning concepts here.

 Radio City
Big Star
$15.99
Vinyl LP -Sealed

Ranked 403/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Although the original members of the Memphis quartet Big Star recorded only the album, #1 Record together and were dissolving rapidly by the time the second, Radio City, was completed, those records have influenced countless 80s and 90s rockers on both sides of the Atlantic, from the Replacements and R.E.M. to Englands Primal Scream and Scotlands Teenage Fanclub. That Big Stars impact should extend so far afield is less surprising in light of the bands own inspirations. Taking the gritty soul of Memphis rhythm and blues and fusing it with the artful melodies and vocal harmonies of British power pop, and injecting it all with a flailing, pre-punk, garage-band energy, Big Star created a unique sound with a universal appeal.
Much of the tension that fueled Big Star's wonderful harmonies apparently came from the undercurrents of competition instilled by the medias perception of Alex Chilton as the leader of the band, one which Chris Bell once steered. Near Christmas of 1972, Bell left the band. Chilton, Hummel and Stephens continued as a trio, but Big Star was clearly on the rocks. They pulled themselves together enough, however, to record 1973's Radio City, which has been called one of rocks most seminal albums, and while Bell was not a formal participant, his lingering spirit is evident in several of the albums 12 tracks.

 Together Through Life
Bob Dylan
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl + CD - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Bob Dylan's 46th career release and follow-up to 2006's Modern Times, Together Through Life features 10 new songs from the music legend including the tracks Beyond Here Lies Nothin, Life Is Hard and It's All Good. The album was recorded late last year after Dylan was asked to compose music for the Olivier Dahan film, My Own Love Song and it was produced under his usual pseudonym, Jack Frost.
In an interview on his website Dylan reveals that the record was inspired by the sound of classic 1950s Chess and Sun recordings.
I like the mood of those records, the intensity. The sound is uncluttered. Theres power and suspense. The whole vibration feels like it could be coming from inside your mind. Its alive. Its right there. Kind of sticks in your head like a toothache. The Together Through Life songs have more of a romantic edge than the music on Modern Times. The songs on Modern Times brought my repertoire up to date, and the light was directed in a certain way. You have to have somebody in mind as an audience otherwise theres no point.
There didnt seem to be any general consensus among my listeners. Some people preferred my first period songs. Some, the second. Some, the Christian period. Some, the post Colombian. Some, the Pre-Raphaelite. Some people prefer my songs from the nineties. I see that my audience now doesnt particular care what period the songs are from. They feel style and substance in a more visceral way and let it go at that. Images dont hang anybody up. Like if theres an astrologer with a criminal record in one of my songs its not going to make anybody wonder if the human race is doomed. Images are taken at face value and it kind of freed me up.
This Double 180g Vinyl version also includes a full-length bonus CD.

2 LP plus Bonus CD of the Album
Back in the days when full-length LPs were still considered a luxury item, record labels devised a way to get people to buy them: hire an unknown singer to do a full-length albums worth of cover versions of all the latest hits. People bought these albums because it was an affordable way to amass a collection of the latest hits, and cheaper than buying the original singles. In the late sixties Elton John was one of these unknown singers and although the cover albums did not afford him with much creative room (given that by contract he was not allowed to reinterpret any of the covers), they did pay the rent.
An interesting glimpse at Elton before he became a pop starwho knows if his mastery of the pop song is not in some small way owed to this early apprenticeship inside the belly of the beast.

LPs Cut from the Original Masters at Sterling Sound by Iconic Engineer George Marino
58-Track Behemoth Includes 45 Previously Unreleased Hendrix Studio and Live Recordings
Hendrix's Journey Traced in Music: From Little-Known R&B Sideman to Rock Superstar
Ultimate Hendrix Set is the Jewel of Legacy's Catalog Restoration Project
The wave of newly re-mastered, all-analog Jimi Hendrix titles culminates in the long awaited release of West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology. This definitive career-spanning 8-LP Box Set tracks Hendrixs remarkable journey from R&B sideman to international guitar hero. The deluxe set is filled with previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix Experience recordings plus demos, alternate takes, and more. This newly assembled Jimi Hendrix anthology also includes a new Hendrix documentary DVD, directed by the Grammy award-winning Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology, Festival Express, and Beatles: The Studio Recordings). The LPs have been cut from the original masters at Sterling Sound in Manhattan by iconic engineer George Marino.
This long-awaited career-spanning box set tracks Hendrix's remarkable journey from little known R&B sideman to international stardom through an unprecedented assemblage of previously unavailable recordings. West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology is not a collection of existing Hendrix albums but instead 45 unreleased Hendrix live and studio recordings including demos and alternate versions of songs from Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love, and Electric Ladyland.
West Coast Seattle Boy includes Hendrixs never before heard version of Bob Dylans 'Tears Of Rage," solo acoustic recordings of Electric Ladyland favorites like "Long Hot Summer Night" and "1983 (A Merman I Shall Turn To Be)" as well as never before heard live performances from Berkeley and the legendary Band Of Gypsys Fillmore East concert on New Year's Eve 1969 combined together with such new Hendrix songs as "Hear My Freedom," "Hound Dog Blues," "Lonely Avenue" and more.
A centerpiece achievement in Legacy Recordings' monumental Jimi Hendrix catalog project, West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology is the first Hendrix collection to bring fans access to a comprehensive treasure trove of fresh material -- including demos, alternate takes, live concert jewels and more -- from all phases of the artist's recording career (1964 -1970). It offers the most complete collection of Jimi's pre-Experience R&B performances (including his singles with the Isley Brothers, Little Richard, Don Covay, King Curtis and more) to ever be officially anthologized, while bringing together the most comprehensive and revelatory set of fully realized songs, never before heard live performances, alternate studio takes, acoustic and electric demos, and other rarities drawn from every chapter of Hendrix's remarkable life and career.
The newly curated and assembled West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology also includes Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child, a new 90-minute documentary directed by the multiple Grammy-award winning Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology, Festival Express, Beatles: The Studio Recordings, Band of Gypsys). An autobiographical journey told in the legendary musician's own words as read by Parliament-Funkadelic's Bootsy Collins, the film incorporates interviews with Hendrix, coupled with the artist's letters, writings and recordings to provide new insight into one of the most enduring icons of popular culture.
The documentary features some of Jimi's greatest performances as well as rare and never before seen footage and photos including--for the first time ever--examples from the Hendrix family archive of the late guitarists personal drawings, postcards home to his father, song drafts, sketches, and lyrics.
"Who better to tell the incredible story of a man's life than the man himself? Jimi was amazing and only his music, with tones and textures that he conjured, can capture the colorful and expansive essence of his time here on earth. I am enthralled with this all-encompassing new anthology which not only illuminates his years on both sides of the Atlantic and beautifully reveals his versatility as a performer, from his R&B origins to his explosion on the pop culture scene, but highlights who he was for those who knew and loved him," says Janie Hendrix, President and CEO of Experience Hendrix and co-producer of West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology.
An essential and historic addition to the Jimi Hendrix catalog, West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology brings together, for the first time, many of Hendrix's earliest commercial recordings, providing a rare glimpse of the rising rock guitar hero through a series of stellar sideman performances on a set of highly collectible pre-Experience R&B singles.

There's no separating the unparalleled legacy of The Doobie Brothers from their upcoming release World Gone Crazy, the new album may be most remarkable for the extent to which it stands completely on its own. World Gone Crazy is an analogy for The Doobie Brothers as a whole. Led by founding members, vocalists and principle songwriters Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons, and joined by longtime members John McFee on guitar and Mike Hossack on drums, The Doobies have honored the broader, 40-year band's legacy with an offering that grows in unexpected new directions. "This album has been in the mix for five years, but we didn't seriously start putting the nuts and bolts together until three years ago," Johnston says. Ted Templeman, the producer behind The Doobie Brothers biggest hits and other such classic albums by Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Carly Simon, and Montrose returns to the fold for World Gone Crazy re-igniting the special chemistry that audiences have embraced for the past four decades!

T. Rex
$17.99
Vinyl LP + CD - Sealed

|
"Get It On", featured on their 1971 album Electric Warrior is arguably T. Rex's best-known song. Written by frontman Marc Bolan "Get It On" was the second chart-topper for T. Rex on the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, the song was retitled "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" to avoid confusion with a number of the same name by the group Chase.
Bolan claimed to have written the song out of his desire to record Chuck Berry's "Little Queenie", and said that the riff is taken from the Berry song. In fact, a line (And meanwhile, I'm still thinking) of "Little Queenie" is said at the fade of "Get It On".

Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Co-produced by guitarist and long-time collaborator Doyle Bramhall II, Clapton features an all star cast of musical collaborations started with the legendary JJ Cale, drummer Jim Keltner, bassist Willie Weeks, and keyboardist Walt Richmond-and the sessions later added guests including Steve Winwood, Wynton Marsalis, Sheryl Crow, Allen Toussaint, and Derek Trucks. Clapton created a collection that touches on everything from century-old traditional brass bands to little-known country blues to brand-new originals. The result is both relaxed and revelatory, and unlike anything the guitarist has done in his legendary career.
"This album wasn't what it was intended to be at all, it's actually better than it was meant to be because, in a way, I just let it happen. It's an eclectic collection of songs that weren't really on the map and I like it so much because if it's a surprise to the fans, that's only because it's a surprise to me, as well." - Eric Clapton

Gemini Suite Live (Out Of Stock)
Deep Purple
$34.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
Temporarily out of stock

The Gemini Suite was the second full length work involving rock musicians and an orchestra written by Deep Purples keyboard player Jon Lord. It followed Deep Purple's highly successful Concerto For Group & Orchestra, first performed in 1969 and now (following a revival by the group in 1999) being staged by different players and orchestras all round the world.
Gemini Suite was based around the individual musical characters of the members of Deep Purple, with a solo movement for each. The work was performed for the first time in 1970, but the rest of the group, worried that such ventures would give rock audiences the wrong impression, declined to repeat the experiment. When Lord later made a studio recording of the piece, two of the group opted out, making this a unique recording of the work in its original incarnation. With some stunning performances and imaginative writing, it's an important cross- over work as well as being a fascinating early example of the orchestral rock movement.
Track Listing:
Side One
1. First Movement : GUITAR / ORGAN
Side Two
1. Second Movement : VOCAL / BASS
2. Third Movement : DRUMS

QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE Fillmore Auditorium Feb 4th, 1967, this live performance at San Franciscos Fillmore Auditorium [captured on February 4th 1967] is a delicious early glimpse at one of the architects of West Coast acid rock in the months leading up to the Summer of Love. Although the band had been playing live all around the Bay Area since 1965, their official Capitol Records debut would not come out until the following year, making this album a rare opportunity to hear what the band sounded like a full year prior, and as a five-piece [singer/harmonica player Jim Murray quit the band before their debut was recorded, and the band continued from that point on as a four-piece]. It also features original intended front man, and future QMS member Dino Valenti best known for having written the hippy anthem 'Get Together', performing several of his own songs, not heard on any other album!).

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s – or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

 Quicksilver Messenger Service (Pure Pleasure)
Quicksilver Messenger Service
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Quicksilver Messenger Service's debut effort was a little more restrained and folky than some listeners had expected, given their reputation for stretching out in concert. While some prefer the mostly live "Happy Trails", this self-titled collection is inarguably their strongest set of studio material, with the accent on melodic folk-rock. Highlights include their cover of folksinger Hamilton Camp's "Pride of Man", probably their best studio track; "Light Your Windows", probably the group's best original composition; and founding member Dino Valenti's "Dino's Song" (Valenti himself was in jail when the album was recorded). "Gold And Silver" is their best instrumental jam, and the 12-minute "The Fool" reflects some of the best and worst traits of the psychedelic era.
Musicians:
- John Cipollina, Gary Duncan (guitar, vocal)
- David Frieberg (bass, vocal)
- Greg Elmore (drums, percussion)
Production: Nick Gravenites, Harvey Brooks & Pete Welding

Head Games on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram LP from Mobile Fidelity
Foreigner's 1979 Effort Its Edgiest, Heaviest, Hardest-Hitting Album
Band Pairs Synthesizers With Guitars on Record to Mesmerizing Effect
"Head Games," "Dirty White Boy" Continue Group's Hit Streak
Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Roy Thomas Baker's Original Production Shines Like Never Before
The moment Head Games begins, a nastier, grittier tone is established, and it becomes apparent that Foreigner is bringing something new to the table. Namely, an edgier, leaner sound built around stronger guitars and harder rhythms. The heaviest record of the bands career, the 1979 effort functions as irrefutable proof that the quintet rocked as hard as anybody in the mainstream and did so without losing sight of the melodies that put it at the top of the charts. And with Head Games, there Foreigner would stay.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys collectible audiophile edition of this longtime favorite classic-rock staple bursts with tremendous dynamics, soaring vocal timbres, punchy dynamics, and newfound instrumental separation. With more emphasis placed on Mick Jones guitar riffs and meatier grooves, you may just find yourself investing in a new power amp to get every last degree of detail thats been uncovered! Longtime fans will be thrilled to hear the subtle nuances now fully discernible amidst a gargantuan soundstage.
Joined by new bassist Rick Wills, and guided by Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker, Foreigner goes for broke, ratcheting up the muscularity on hard-hitting fare such as the hit single Dirty White Boy, Seventeen, and the aptly titled Rev on the Red Line. However, the group maintains its trademark equilibrium, pushing the limits on toughness yet retaining a diamond-in-the-rough smoothness that allows the bands hummable choruses and winding hooks to take hold.
Moreover, the band expands its use of synthesizers to wonderful effect. The smash title track, through which mesmerizing keyboard passages coarse, is a prime example of Foreigners slight albeit thrilling sonic evolution, the net result upping the drama, fanfare, and color. At the time, the combination was a breakthrough idea. Is it any wonder Head Games sold more than 5 million copies?
None, however, sound anywhere near as lifelike, involving, and rich as Mobile Fidelitys remaster. Part of the reason why late 70s arena rock remains beloved, and why its so fun, owes to the go-for-broke nature of the arrangements, decibel-clearing volume levels, and free license to just let loose. By digging in and revealing all the musical information the master tapes provide, Mobile Fidelitys analog 180g LP amplifies the pleasure principle by tenfold!
Track Listing:
1. Dirty White Boy
2. Love on the Telephone
3. Women
4. I'll Get Even with You
5. Seventeen
6. Head Games
7. The Modern Day
8. Blinded by Science
9. Do What You Like
10. Rev on the Red Line

 Double Vision
Foreigner
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
So much for sophomore jinxes that almost always go hand-in-hand with groups that explode onto the scene. Overflowing with first-rate songwriting, lascivious hooks, and sing-a-long choruses, Foreigners Double Vision lays waste to conventional sophomore-release wisdom and went on to actually exceed the popularity of the bands blockbuster debut. More than seven million copies and two Top Five singles later, the 1978 set still rocks with definite purpose.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys collectible audiophile 180g LP of this longtime favorite classic-rock staple bursts with tremendous dynamics, soaring vocal timbres, bottom-end punch, and newfound instrumental separation. Sure, you may have heard songs such as Double Vision and Hot Blooded countless times, but trust us, youve never really heard them (outside of an arena setting, stadium amplifiers blaring) like this. You may just find yourself investing in a new power amp to get every last degree of detail thats been uncovered!
Synonymous with AOR (album-oriented rock), Foreigner essentially perfects the style throughout this concise, focused, down-and-dirty ten-song set. The key to any memorable 70s rock record is a catchy single, and the quintet has several lying in the waiting. The title track, inspired by New York Rangers goalie John Davidson getting whacked in the head by a hockey puck, spills over with double-entendre meaning, tough-cut riffs, and a rotating groove, not to mention a mystical keyboard refrain. Equally memorable, and a permanent part of any radio stations rotation, Hot Blooded is the ideal come-on, the groups open-ended rhythm and dance-inspiring beats pouring with promise, salaciousness, and ass-kicking sexuality. A terrific power ballad infused with woe and longing, Blue Morning, Blue Day features insistent harmonies and piano notes that grab you by the collar and doesnt let go.
Of course, great songs alone dont make for great records. The bands chemistry and performance needs to be on par with that of the material. And what else can be said of leather-lunged vocalist Lou Gramm and guitar-hero Mick Jones save for the fact the pair combine for a legendary one-two punch, leading their mates through sensational melodies and swaggering leads. Seldom has the balance between tough and polished, light and heavy, fun and reserved been better established and maintained.
Ready to rock out? Wait until you hear Mobile Fidelitys analog remaster. Itll bring back (double) visions of hot stage lights, dry-ice fog, feel-good times, and amplifiers cranked to 10only this time, the experience will take place inside the confines of your own home. Check it and see!

4 on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram LP from Mobile Fidelity
#1 1981 Album Teems With Hits: "Urgent," "Waiting for a Girl Like You," "Juke Box Hero"
Foreigner's Most Consistent, Economical, and Cleanly Produced Record
Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Sonics Open Window to Mutt Lange's Direct Production
Be A Juke Box Hero: Sound Will Rattle Your Walls and Shake Your Windows!
Want to be a juke box hero? Heres your chance. Featuring Mutt Langes spotless production, contributions from Motown legend Junior Walker and new-wave icon Thomas Dolby, no less than three huge singles, and Foreigners most economical performances, 4 is classic-rock nirvana, a model of crystalline pop-rock melodies and lighter-flicking balladry. More than six million copies later, the 1981 record is still rightly discussed as a front-to-back masterpiece of precision, power, and economy. Its an album that demands to be experienced in the highest-possible fidelity.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys 180g LP presents 4 in a room-filling, stadium-big sound that simply crushes whats heard on all prior versions. Replete with energetic rockers such as Urgent, Night Life, and Woman In Black, the record benefits from a sonic facelift that opens up the previously compressed dynamics, expands the dimensions of the soundstage, dials in a clear path to the instrumental images, and erases the ceiling that pressed down on Lou Gramms superhuman vocals. For the first time, Langes obsessive, detail-oriented production can be enjoyed in all its splendid glory.
Fresh off blockbuster success with AC/DCs Back In Black, Lange uses his magic touch on 4, pairing with guitarist Mick Jones who, armed with the best batch of riffs of his career, shared a the producers sentiment for discipline, efficiency, and cleanliness. And so, on crisp tunes like Break It Up, pianos and hard-hitting guitars share the same space without ever impinging on one another or overstepping boundaries. The winning formula also propels Top 5 hits like the wildly funky Urgent, sent to new heights by Walkers dazzling saxophone solo, and the touching Waiting for a Girl Like You, a crossover smash that introduced Foreigner to soft-rock and adult-pop audiences.
Simply stated, 4 has everything: Rowdy frustration-releasing cuts, fiery rock n roll tunes, heartfelt torch songs, and synth-drenched pop numbers. The playing throughout positively smokes, as the one-two punch of Gramm and Jones lands with both emotional and musical impact every time. There's not a single wasted note. And, reduced to a quartet, Foreigner seems bent on making more with less, just as Lange does with the polished production. This is 42 minutes of hard-rocking bliss.
Accept no substitute. Mobile Fidelitys collectible audiophile edition will rattle your walls and shake your windows. Be prepared to tap every reserve available from your amplifiers. And play it LOUD!

 Learning To Crawl
Pretenders
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP
|
What is the sound of a fledgling band dealing with multiple tragedies, coming to terms with drastic changes, digging deep into its consciousness, finding resolution in hurt, and overcoming staggering odds to record a bonafide masterwork? It's the sound of every note that graces the Pretenders' Learning to Crawl. Still recognized as one of the most emotionally gripping and musically gutsy performances ever made, the smash 1984 album hasn't aged a day. And now, it sounds better than could ever be imagined.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Learning to Crawl finally possesses the combination of whisper-in-your-ear intimacy and nerve-checking toughness that it's always demanded on Mobile Fidelity's super-quiet analog LP. Leader Chrissie Hynde's voice is made viscerally apparent, wavering between vigorous determination and solemn reflection, while drummer Martin Chamber's punchy backbeats register with requisite punch. To say nothing of how fresh the effort's hit singles ("Middle of the Road," "Back on the Chain Gang") and incredible deep cuts sound.
The story behind Learning to Crawl is directly connected to the powerful, moving music within. After releasing two records that swept the world by storm (Pretenders and Pretenders II, the latter available on hybrid SACD from Mobile Fidelity), the group's fortunes reversed after guitarist James Honeyman-Scott was found dead of a drug overdose in 1982. Shortly thereafter, founding member Pete Fardon, fired just two days before his partner's death, also succumbed to an overdose, leaving the band's state in tatters. Would there still be a Pretenders?
Hynde answers this question with a resounding "yes" on Learning to Crawl, which still contains signs of the band's early, street-wise rawness but also adds new wrinkles, with more streamlined melodies, sensitive ballads, and reflective tones. "Back on the Chain Gang," the Pretenders' most commercially successful hit, functioned as a bittersweet tribute to her ex-mates while the Christmas-themed "2000 Miles" holds rank as one of the most effecting, penetrating love songs of Hynde's career. Throughout the record, the Pretenders are again one.
New guitarist Robbie McIntosh supplies simpler, bluesier, basic guitar lines and the foursome know how to all-out rock, with the furious "Middle of the Road" and socially conscious "My City Was Gone" testifying to a stinging, thrilling sensibility that can exist only because of the devastation that the band survived. Call it the rise of the phoenix or triumph of the human will, but any way you see it, Learning to Crawl occupies a rare territory--akin to the space referred to on the superb cover of "Thin Line Between Love and Hate"--that registers in the pits of the human soul.
Whether you've grown up with this album, heard it in college, or are just learning about it now, Mobile Fidelity's expertly mastered 180g LP version is the only analog edition worth owning. Hear Hynde and Co.'s cathartic, transcendent effort in all its full splendor, and, like the Pretenders, refuse to settle for less.

Latest In Young's Archive Performance Series Spotlights Artist's Incredible 1984-85 Run w/ the All-Star Lineup of the International Harvesters
Bound for Glory: Young's Country-Minded Gems Sparkle Onstage
Five of the Dozen Tracks Never Before Released Including Sought-After "Grey Riders"
Audiophile-Grade Vinyl: 4th Side Features Special Etching
Includes MP3 Download of Entire Album
Neil Young's Archive Performance Series returns in 2011 with a true gem that will please both hardcore fans as well as music listeners seeking insight into one of the most unheralded, unexpected tours in history. Captured during Young's 1984-85 tour with a group of country pros named the International Harvesters, and featuring several of the most acclaimed performances in the legendary artist's career, A Treasure lives up to its name and more. 180g 2LP, mastered by Chris Bellman from the original tapes and pressed at Pallas, features a special art etching on the fourth side. In addition to the incredible sound, it's the music that really matters.
The 12-track live album includes songs, five of which are previously unreleased, recorded during Young's 1984 and 1985 U.S. tours without the support of an album or Young's then-record label due to unique and unusual circumstances. A Treasure features Young's onstage work with some of the greatest artists in the history of country music, including the late, great Ben Keith on steel and slide guitar and Rufus Thibodeaux on fiddle, along with living legends Spooner Oldham and Hargus "Pig" Robbins on piano, Tim Drummond and Joe Allen on bass, and Karl Himmel on drums, among many others.
The live album captures the iconic artist during a fascinating time in his career, when he was facing criticism and lawsuits from his then-current record company for exploring a more traditionally country sound. "You can call me erratic," Young said when asked at the time about his tendency toward musical shape-shifting, "but I've been consistent about it, consistently erratic." A Treasure is akin to a sonic time capsule, instantly transporting the listener to the time and place when it was made. "I love this record," Young says. "I hadn't heard these takes in 25 years, but when we unearthed them, co-producer Ben Keith said, 'This is a treasure.'"
Part of what makes A Treasure so compelling is the musical contributions of The International Harvesters, with whom Young was playing at the time. Many of them were already paragons within the country music world and their notoriety has only grown in the years since. "I just love to hear those guys," Young says. "They're all country music legends." Those behind the scenes also made significant contributions to A Treasure's sonic potency. Tim Mulligan mixed and mastered the tracks. At the time these songs were recorded, Bob Sterne was the tour manager, Tim Foster ran the stage, and Larry Cragg was in charge of the band's instruments.
Mastered from the original tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, pressed at Pallas, and featuring heavenly sound, this is both an audiophile delight and musical revelation. Also includes MP3 download of entire record. Don't pass this up!

Ranked 78/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
NOW ON 180-GRAM VINYL!!!
Remastered from the original tapes! It sounds incredible!!
A quadruple Platinum No. 1 smash and the best-selling album of 1972, Harvest was Neil Young's fourth solo effort. With the Gold No. 1 "Heart Of Gold," Top 40 "Old Man," powerful "The Needle And The Damage Done," controversial "A Man Needs A Maid" and "Southern Man" companion "Alabama," Harvest won inclusion in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Albums Of All Time."
Deceptively laid-back-sounding country-rock plaints like "Out On The Weekend" and the title cut caress the ear unassumingly, pulling you into the more ominous subtext that is present in the rollicking "Are You Ready For The Country." As always, Young has an ear for contrasts, laying down heavy rock ("Alabama") besides his balladry, and even employing the London Symphony Orchestra on the excellent confessional "A Man Needs A Maid." Due to back troubles, Young recorded much of this material while wearing a brace, a fact that seems audible in the tension and unease that underlies the friendly, acoustic surface of this superb release.
Track Listing:
1. Out On The Weekend
2. Harvest
3. A Man Needs A Maid

 Bolan's Zip Gun
T. Rex
$16.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Much of T. Rex's 1975 release Bolan's Zip Gun returns to the understated romp Bolan had always excelled at. The delightful knockabout "Precious Star," the unrepentant boogie of "Till Dawn" and the pounding title track, all echo with the effortless lightheartedness which was Bolan at his most carelessly buoyant, while "Token of My Love" is equally incandescent, a playful blues number which swiftly became a major in-concert favorite.
But the essence of Zip Gun remains firmly in the funky pastures which characterized Zinc Alloy, with the only significant difference lying in the presentation. Out went the plush production which so diluted the earlier set, to be replaced by a sparser sound which emphasized the rhythms, heightened the backing vocals, and left rock convention far behind.
"Light of Love," "Golden Belt" and the heavyweight ballad "I Really Love You Babe" may not be Stax-sized attractions, but they have an earthy authenticity nevertheless.
Track Listing:
1. Light Of Love
2. Solid Baby
3. Precious Star
4. Token Of My Love
5. Space Boss
6. Think Zinc
7. Till Dawn

Hendrix's Most Storied Live Three-Night Stand Comes to Brilliant Life on Stellar, Audiophile-Quality Box Set
Features Tons of Performances Not Available on Any Other Release
Six 1968 Concerts from San Francisco's Historic Venue Reshaped Rock and Roll: Here Are the Highlights
8LP Edition Annihilates All Previous Winterland Compilations: Tremendous Sonics and Insight
Also Includes 36-Page Book and Rare Backstage Interview With Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock performance may be his most famous, but the guitarist named by Rolling Stone as the best in history was never better than at a three-night stand in San Francisco, putting on a total of six concerts that fans have long clamored to hear. Featuring the creme de la creme of said performances, now everyone finally gets their wish.
Winterland is drawn from said six stellar shows recorded over three days (October 10, 11 and 12, 1968) at San Francisco's historic Winterland Ballroom. These special performances celebrated the two-year anniversary of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and came just as the groundbreaking album Electric Ladyland was released. Even given the era's rich history, you'll be hard-pressed to come up with any concert that rivals what's here.
As many already know, Winterland presents some of Hendrixs most spectacular guitar work. This scintillating set is filled with rare live versions of classic songs such as "Manic Depression," "Are You Experienced?," "Tax Free," and "Little Wing" that are not part of any other Sony Legacy releases. Fans will also enjoy Hendrixs dramatic interpretations of Creams "Sunshine Of Your Love" and Howlin Wolfs "Killing Floor" (with the Experience joined by Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady) as well his rendition of Bob Dylans "Like A Rolling Stone," which many critics and fans regard as the ultimate interpretation.
Pressed on 8 x 180g LPs, this special deluxe box set features never before released music from each of the six unforgettable Winterland performances. Please note that Winterland is now markedly different from the flawed single disc compilation, long out of print, briefly issued by Rykodisc in 1987 and 1988. Moreover, Winterland also presents a rare interview with Hendrix recorded backstage at the Boston Garden a few weeks after the Winterland performances. This previously unreleased bonus provides fans with a unique window into Hendrixs views about his background, his approach to the guitar, and songwriting and future direction of his music.
As should be required for any such box set, Winterland features a 36-page booked filled with previously unpublished images by acclaimed photographers Robert Knight, Allen Tannenbaum, and Jim Marshall, as well as an essay by noted Rolling Stone journalist David Fricke.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Archetypal prog-rockers Yes formed in London in the late 1960s and gained vast popularity in the 1970s.
Throughout the 1970s Yes produced a stream of gold and platinum-selling albums, with 'Fragile' and 'Close to the Edge' considered fan favorites.
Credit for their long-standing relevance lies with the distinctive vocals and lyrics of frontman Jon Anderson and the musicianship of the band's many members who have come and gone over the life of the group.
The recordings on this double LP set consist of live BBC and other radio-related tracks and all date from 1969-1970.
The fact that the BBC sessions never permitted retakes, and were never intended for commercial release, gave them a raw, spontaneous quality that makes them very different from the studio equivalents.
The insert contains liner notes by Peter Banks, the band's co-founder and lead guitarist during this era, that reveal a lot about what the band was like during this era.

Woman: The Workshop Sessions features eight never-before-heard versions of songs from the Doors' 1971 album and a never-before-heard song, "She Smells So Nice," which captures the band joyfully barreling through a full-throttle original before segueing into the blues standard "Rock Me." As the song closes, Jim Morrison can be heard chanting, "Mr. Mojo Risin," an anagram of his name that was made famous during the bridge of "L.A. Woman." The track was recently discovered by producer Bruce Botnick while reviewing the L.A. Woman session tapes.
Alternate takes of "The Changeling," "Love Her Madly," "Cars Hiss By My Window," "L.A. Woman," "The Wasp (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)," "Been Down So Long" and "Riders On The Storm" offer a fresh view on this landmark release, which was the group's last album and sixth straight Top 10.
The studio chatter between songs is a revelation, transporting listeners to The Doors' West Hollywood rehearsal space where they recorded the album with Botnick. One segment in particular captures a fascinating moment of inspiration when Morrison suggests they add the now iconic thunderstorm sound effects to the beginning of "Riders On The Storm."
This 180g 2LP edition of LA Woman: The Workshop Sessions is presented on three sides of vinyl, with the fourth side featuring a laser etching of the original "Electric Woman" art included with the album's original 1971 release.

Cut From the Original Analog Masters and Pressed on 200g Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings
In the fall of 1980, the Grateful Dead purposefully played a series of shows at two venues, the Warfield Theater in San Francisco and Radio City Music Hall in New York City, that were considerably smaller than the stadiums and arenas they were, by that point, regularly selling out. They did so with the express interest of recording in an intimate space the opening portion of each show, a stripped-down acoustic set featuring Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir playing acoustic guitars, Brent Mydland playing piano, drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart playing reduced kits and bassist Phil Lesh turning his electric volume down considerably.
The group chose a set list of classic folk and country tunes mixed with their originals and Reckoning is a very obvious ode to the band's early 1960s origins of folk, bluegrass and country. These are the sounds from which this whole long, strange trip was born, and Garcia in particular shines radiantly here.
The sound, as with all records that are stripped to their bare essentials and rid of an overcrowded electric set, is right up there with the very best the Dead ever released. This is also the record for those on-the-fence fans that could do without the wandering-away-from-the-pocket sound that characterized much of the Dead's music. The songs here are tight and compact while still remaining dynamically delicate.

 Terrapin Station

$29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Cut From the Original Analog Masters and Pressed on 200g Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings
Terrapin Station, originally released in 1977, marked the Grateful Dead's first studio album in two years and their return to a major label, in this case Arista Records. The band hired an outside producer for just the second time here, using Keith Olsen, a former member of the '60s garage rock band Music Machine.
Highlights abound and include the title suite that extends to cover all of side B, as well as the disco-like reworking of the Martha & The Vandellas hit "Dancin' In The Streets," the Rev. Gary Davis cover of "Samson and Delilah" and the classic "Estimated Prophet."
The release, like the band, is a beautiful amalgamation of styles, with rock, funk, disco and strains of reggae. As their ninth studio effort overall, Terrapin Station has a decidedly tighter and more cohesive feel than the live material for which the band became legendary. All the same, it's unmistakable classic Dead all the way, and in fact much of the material from this record has become live staples to this day.

 Quadrophenia: Super Deluxe Director's Cut

7" Vinyl LP + 4 CDs + DVD - Sealed

After Who's Next, Pete Townshend created Quadrophenia, the story of Jimmy, a young mod struggling to come of age in mid-1960s England. Quadrophenia perfectly captured the era in which it was set and has remained one of the most enduring rock albums of all time.
For Quadrophenia: Super Deluxe Director's Cut, Pete Townshend spent 6 months revisiting what he describes as "the Who album I'm most proud of." The end result is a stunning limited edition 5 disc box set featuring the original studio album, now remastered, 2 discs of previously unreleased demos, a disc of 5.1 surround-sound mixes and a 7" vinyl single.
The set also contains rare and unseen memorabilia including handwritten lyrics, unseen photos, a poster, a unique studio diary as well as an extensive essay and track by track guide to the demo recordings all written by Pete.
"The time has come for me and my team to honour Quadrophenia with a carefully presented package that features examples of the impact surround sound (quadrophonic) would have on the music, to remaster the vinyl mixes, and to collect and restore my demos. I am also going to try to shed some light on the way Quadrophenia came about, and how it was inspired by events in my life in 1970 and 1971 when I scribbled or typed the very first notes and lyrics for some of the songs that made it onto the final record." - Pete Townshend

As the headliner of the 1969 Woodstock Festival, Jimi Hendrix was the last act and he didn't hit the stage until dawn on Monday morning. The recording finds Hendrix in a period of transition between the psychedelic blues of the Experience and the soulful, rhythmically driven Band of Gypsys. Throughout the electrifying set, Hendrix manages to touch on every musical style from jazz to blues to funk and soul and it stands as arguably the most famous and affirming live performance in the history of music.
Legacy Recordings is now reissuing Hendrix's watershed Live At Woodstock on an audiophile, three-disc 12" vinyl LP set that blows away all prior editions. Cut from the original tapes at Sterling Sound by iconic engineer George Marino under the supervision of Eddie Kramer, and pressed and plated at RTI, this 3LP version will forever stand as the definitive-sounding, high-performance edition of this historic document. The Union is the highly anticipated collaborative album from Elton John and Leon Russell and it's the first time these iconic artists have worked together since 1970. Produced by Oscar and multiple-Grammy winning producer T Bone Burnett, The Union was recorded live in the studio with Elton and Leon on dueling pianos. The album features a variety of musical genres from R&B, soul, gospel, country, pop and rock. The 14-track set includes selections written by Elton and his lifelong lyricist Bernie Taupin, as well as the combined incomparable songwriting team encompassing Leon, Elton, Bernie and T Bone.
Leon first met Elton in 1970 when he attended Eltons first ever U.S. show at the famous Troubadour in Los Angeles. The meeting heralded the beginning of a long friendship and a mutual appreciation between the two artists. In the late 60s and early 70s, the one piano player and vocalist who influenced me more than anybody else was Leon Russell, Elton said. He was my idol. The pair went on to tour together shortly thereafter at New Yorks Fillmore East and to this day have held such high admiration for each others work.
After years of being out of touch, Elton listened to Leons music while on safari in Africa last summer and was inspired to reconnect with his idol. Elton called to ask if I would do a duet album with him, Russell said. Im very happy that he chose me to do this.

If you want to experience why on any given night the Grateful Dead was the best live band going in 1969, you need to hear Live/Dead. If you want to understand how personal chemistry, symbiotic interplay, and otherworldly energy can lead to a near-extinct onstage combination of soulfulness, surprise, and suspense, you need to hear Live/Dead. Ranked by Rolling Stone on the magazines list of the 500 Greatest Records of All Time. Universally acclaimed by both Deadheads and non-devotees alike. The perfect synthesis of the legendary groups first-era vital characteristics and cosmic faculties. A gorgeously recorded sonic artifact and more, Live/Dead is outright essential.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes with the utmost care, and part of Mobile Fidelitys unprecedented Grateful Dead reissue series, this numbered limited edition 180g 2LP version of Live/Dead raises the iconic albums lofty prestige even higher. Recorded at three San Francisco concerts in early 1969 with a mobile 16-track studio, the 7-song set has always possessed excellent fidelity in large part because of a mic splitterspecially created for the projectthat fed both into the PA system and record inputs, allowing the engineers to capture the shows without any loss in quality.
Seldom have venue dimensions, acoustic properties, spatial characteristics, low-frequency resonances, amplifier tonalities, soundstage balances, and vocal timbres been so faithfully reproducedor enhanced. Mobile Fidelitys version elevates Live/Dead into the revered pantheon of the most respected reference audiophile LPs. Close your eyes and youre dead center, ten rows back in two of the Bay Areas most beloved halls: Fillmore West and Avalon Ballroom. The degrees of realism are utterly staggering; no, you dont need any, ahem, chemical assistance to facilitate the transcendent experience.
Renowned for contagious communication between its members, the Dead operates on a interstellar plane throughout Live/Dead. Witnessing the ebb-and-flow manners in which guitarist Jerry Garcia, bassist Phil Lesh, and drummer Billy Kreutzmann respond to one anothers passages and blur the lines between jazz, psychedelia, and rock disciplines. Meandering jamming this is not. Solos burn, rhythms thunder, bass lines roll, melodies twist. Dark Star remains the touchstone for whats possible in epic frameworks, with notes climbing, darting, and skittering amidst a dark canvas seared with mystic vibes and punctuated with blossoming instrumentals. Along with the inseparable pairing of St. Stephen and The Elevena sequence that highlights the raw gospel beauty of Garcia, Lesh, and Bob Weirs harmonies as well as breathtaking tightrope seguesthe explorative excursion epitomizes the Deads progressive inclination, cohesion, and ability.
Live/Dead isnt all about the art of the improvisation. R&B-driven electric blues comes courtesy of organist/vocalist Ron Pigpen McKernan, still in excellent health, and pianist Tom Constanten, who departed the band shortly after these shows occurred. The latters counterpoint playing and spiritual accents shadow the shivering ballad Death Dont Have No Mercy and underscore a rousing, percussive-laden marathon take of Turn on Your Love Light. Call-and-response segments, spontaneous exchanges, and joyous merry-making doesnt come any better. Live/Dead is a landmark in every sense; it remains the first 16-track album released. Its impact is still felt today.
From the illustrative cover art (hint: the word Dead subtly spells out Acid on the back cover) to the gatefold graphics and the extraordinary sonics, Mobile Fidelitys 180 gram 2LP edition ranks among the labels best releases. Ever. Secure your lowest-numbered edition by ordering now!

1971 Double Live Album Presents Legendary Bands Expansion Into Country Rock, Traditional Rock and Roll, and Roots Folk

The Grateful Dead took to the start of the 1970s as a different albeit equally thrilling and eminently broader-reaching band than the ensemble that revolutionized psychedelia in the late 1960s. Made evident in the back-to-back studio releases Workingmans Dead and American Beauty, the group increased its mastery of harmony-driven roots songs distinguished by catchy signatures, more concise arrangements, and impossibly organic textures. Captured live in spring 1971 and featuring not a single repeated song from Live/Dead, the expressive performances on Skull & Roses document this stylistic expansion in unsurpassed fashion. The double-LP constitutes the no-limits sound of an iconic band coming in to its own.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes with the utmost care, and part of the labels unprecedented Grateful Dead reissue series, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited edition 180g 2LP version of Skull and Roses presents the downsized Dead lineups most memorable songs in previously unimaginable fidelity. From the moment Jerry Garcias guitar pick touches a string at the outset of the scampering Bertha, the improvements are palpable: Life-size images, airy vocals, subterranean bass lines, incredibly spacious separation, tube-amp warmth, faithful tones, and balanced dynamics lead a crystal clear path to the music and the Deads extraordinary collective spark.
Originally captured on a 16-track recorder, the songs brim with rarified levels of you-are-there realism and reach-out-and-touch immediacy. Notorious for its exacting sound demands, the Dead achieves the kind of instrumental and frequency-range transparency that many dedicated audiophiles spend their entire lives dreaming about. Skull and Roses is a kernel of sonic truth. Such is the pressings degree of detail and insight that listeners will be able to debate what gauge guitar strings the members are using as they savor every last breath, riff, and snare hit.
Thankfully, the bands perfectionist attitude toward sound doesnt literally transfer over to its music approach. Loose, lively, playful yet earthy, focused, and committed, the Dead crackles with boogie-based moxie, greasy soulfulness, and swaggering bravado, each note seemingly exploding like tiny pieces of magic that hover in the air and cast hypnotic spells. The groups embrace of leaner, tighter, more melodically incisive songs and the swaying rhythms that accompany the approach directly relate to two key lineup changes: the temporary departure of drummer Mickey Hart and permanent leave of keyboardist Tom Constanten. As a result, the Dead toured as a quintet, with Bill Kreutzmann the sole percussionist and Garcia, bassist Phil Lesh, guitarist/singer Bob Weir, and keyboardist/vocalist Ron Pigpen McKernan rounding out the barer-bone cast.
Not only do Garcia, Lesh, and Weir show tremendous growth as singers, the Dead as a whole further invest in folk, country, R&B, rock, and blues traditionsvia Garcias sweeter tones and Bakersfield picking, Weirs cowboy twang and increasingly confident counterpoints, Kreutzmanns hang-fire beats and scurrying grooves, Leshs weighty sway, McKernans foreshadowing spiritual timbres. Inspired covers of tunes by Merle Haggard (a frisky and defiant Mama Tried), Willie Dixon (the comfortably rumbling, boozy honky tonk Big Boss Man), Kris Kristofferson (the dusty, peaceable tale Me and Bobby McGee), Chuck Berry (a supercharged romping Johnny B. Goode), and Buddy Holly (Not Fade Away, segued into Goin Down the Road Feeling Bad) announce the Deads intent to make practically every style of contemporary American music their own, and in the processto paraphrase the great Bill Grahambe the only ones that did what they did.
A similar attitude informed the records genesis. The group originally lobbied to call the album Skullfuck before the record label, at an allegedly chaotic meeting at the infamous Hyatt Hotel, dissuaded the humorous ploy. While technically named Grateful Dead, the album is commonly known as Skull and Roses due to Alton Kelly and Stanley Mouses now-iconic cover art. Trivia buffs might know the latter is based on an illustration for an antique edition of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
The 1971 effort also has another huge claim to fame: It included the message DEAD FREAKS UNITE. Who are you? Where are you? How are you? Those simple lines, and the invitation to respond, created of the Deadhead subculture and biggest fan list in history, utterly pioneering the industry overnight.

For the Grateful Dead, Wake of the Flood ushered in an exciting new era of change and potential. The band elected to depart Warner Bros. and start its own record label. A new lineup emerged after keyboardist/vocalist Ron Pigpen McKernan passed away and the group landed jazz-schooled pianist Keith Godchaux and his wife, Donna, who gave the ensemble a new option in the form of a dedicated backing vocalist. Having road-tested a batch of new originals, the collective eagerly sought to expand its broad musical palette in the form of a large-scale studio LP that involves horn sections, violin, and choral figures. Diverse, unique, and mellow, 1973s Wake of the Flood overflows with the luminous vision, stellar songwriting, and ensemble reciprocity made possible by its historical circumstances and inspired creators.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes and part of the labels unprecedented Grateful Dead reissue series, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited edition 180g LP of Wake of the Flood presents the Deads family-styled blend in supreme fidelity. More than any other Dead studio effort, Wake of the Flood utilizes the myriad alternatives offered by the studio setting. Recording to 24-track, the group invited no fewer than six horn players to the fray, with saxophones, trumpets, and trombones synching up with the six-piece band on two songs. In addition, virtuoso violinist Vassar Clements makes a guest appearance and Texas legend Doug Sahm lays down 12-string guitar, contributing to an amalgamation thats nothing short of epic in ambitionand, in the case of the thematic Weather Report Suite, epic in length.
Mobile Fidelitys engineers recognize how beloved this iconic effort is to so many people. Approaching the mastering process with the same type of focus, perception, and foresight that the Dead bring to the compositions, their painstaking work reveals previously obscured details, timbres, movements, and sounds that greatly add to Wake of the Flood. You can hear and sense it in terms of the LPs poetic sensibility, arching scope, mythological illusion, and emotional impact, all as natural as the rustic images portrayed on the albums artwork.
Bass fanatics, take note: During the sessions, Phil Lesh was in the midst of utilizing an Alembic Quad bass equipped with four pickups to allow each string to be recorded individually, or, one per track. The oceanfloor-deep bass frequencies on this pressing will loosen anything not properly tethered in your room. Jerry Garcia, too, debuts a new Alembic-produced guitar on the album; his rich tonalities swim in the currents of every song here.
And every tune here is first-rate, good ol Grateful Dead. Two separate albeit symbiotically related songwriting teamsGarcia/Hunter and Weir/Barlowguide excursions into forget-all-your-troubles country-rock (Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo), spirit-boosting funk-cum-psychedelia (Eyes of the World), mournfully bracing blues balladry (Stella Blue), and reassuring folk-rock (Here Comes Sunshine). Akin to the albums overall mood, the latter track progressively unfolds, each passage blooming with additional optimism, fortitude, and purpose.
Similarly, the lyrical clouds and thunder ultimately pass on Weirs beautifully complex and terrifically executed three-part Weather Report Suite, a team effort that represents one of the rare occasions of the Dead pairing with a horn section. A live favorite for many years, the tune never possessed onstage the atmosphere-filling soundscapes and theme-enhancing instrumental elements that it does here. Is there a better way to conclude a masterpiece that subconsciously reflects dawning of a new era and the indefatigable hope that comes with it? Doubtful.
Bask in the glory that is Wake of the Flood with this incredible 180g LP pressing. Get your collectable copy and lowest-numbered available version by ordering today!

Part of Mobile Fidelitys Amazing Grateful Dead Reissue Series: Live/Dead, Skull and Roses, Wake of the Flood, and From the Mars Hotel Also Available on 180g LP
In the Dark will forever be known as the Grateful Dead record that propelled the iconic band into the mainstream conscious more than two decades after its career began. Thanks to undeniable hooks, sing-a-long refrains, and shrug-it-off sentiments on the survivalist anthem Touch of Grey, the Dead was exposed to new generations of listeners and, in the process, became celebrity figures that packed football stadiums with fans. But In the Dark remains significant for many other, more important reasonsJerry Garcias stunning recovery from a coma, Garcia and Bob Weirs compelling dynamic, and an impeccable batch of tunes. It also stands bar-none as the sextets finest output since 1975.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes and part of the labels unprecedented Grateful Dead reissue series, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited edition 180g LP of In the Dark presents the Deads long-overdue breakthrough in attention-grabbing fidelity. Even in an era in which the most revered artists succumbed to the days prevailing sound (namely, slick textures and artificial keyboard-heavy production that evoked the feel of Saran-Wrap) the band remained obstinate in its allegiance to revealing fidelity. As it happened, the Dead recorded most of the record live onstage at Marin Civic Auditorium using the then-newly introduced Dolby SRa technology that permitted astounding instrumental separation, even when playing live. The groups inimitable blend now sounds better, more immediate, and natural than ever.
Everything including the clip-clop of cowbells, Mickey Hart and Billy Kreutzmanns rhythm-devil grooves, Phil Leshs supple bass lines, Garcias sweetened timbre, and Brent Mydlands pastel-shaded keyboard melodies converges into a delightfully balanced, animate entity. The music possesses tube-like warmth and glow, and the bands renewed vigor and, particularly, Garcias mellifluous guitar tones and rippling passages, come across with irresistible immediacy, heft, and vitality. Several effectsthe revving of a motorcycle engine, which moves with precise imaging across an extremely wide soundstage and various synthesizer interjections among themhighlight lyrical turns and add winking humor. In the Dark is a late-80s anomaly: A great and great-sounding rock album that isnt the least bit dated.
While theres no single secret behind the records success and its position as the greatest studio achievement of the Deads last two decades, In the Dark boils down to the essential ingredients of great songwriting and the kind of loose, spirited, frolicking chemistry that the sextet so often demonstrated onstage. Weir and Garcia engage in a friendly competition of gamesmanship. The rhythm guitarists cleverly cynical Hell In a Bucket is one of the toughest, nastiest songs in the Deads catalog; Throwing Stones, his image-laden treaty on greed, politics, responsibility, and the environment, benefits from a complex arrangement sent up with marching bridges and spidery guitar work.
For his part, Garcias haunting slow blues West L.A. Fadeaway makes room for Weirs skillful slide-guitar fills while the poignant, merciful reflection Black Muddy Riverdressed in gospel gowns and Biblical allusionscompletes the circle the Dead began back in the late 1960s when the group ended its marathon shows with the traditional spiritual And We Bid You Good Night. The white-bearded legend clearly has fun throughout, and, obviously energized by a second chance on life, pours his soul into the music.
Mydlands performance and presence aren't to be overlooked. Equipped with the vocal harmony potential of a choir of angels, his poignant backing singing on Black Muddy River aches with beauty. Similarly evocative, his lead on the hobo country-blues Tons of Steel evokes equal parts move-on sympathy and regrettable loss. It can be strongly argued that his piano lines and right-hand fills throughout constitute the most valuable the Dead ever received on a record. Chalk them up to an integral part of an album on which every star aligned, good fortune prevailed, and the Dead finally achieved the widespread recognition it had long been overdue.
The prototypical portrait of final-era Grateful Dead, In the Dark belongs in every record collection. Get your collectable copy today!

Mastered from the Original Tapes at Abbey Road by Guy Massey and Co.: Same Team Responsible for Superb Beatles Reissues
Audiophile-Grade Gatefold-Packaged 180g 2LP Set Includes Seven Rare and Previously Unreleased Tracks, Download of Entire Record
Macca's 1970 Solo Debut Stands As One of Most Acclaimed Debuts in Music History
McCartney Personally Supervised the Reissue: McCartney II Also Available on 180g 2LP
Originally released in 1970 and instantly heralded as one of the most beloved solo debuts of all time, McCartney announced to the world that Paul McCartney was more than ready for a career outside of the Beatles. Hitting #1 on the charts, the record yielded the timeless tracks "Every Night" and "That Would Be Something" along with the immortal classic "Maybe I'm Amazed."
Recorded at the multi-instrumentalist's home studio, McCartney performed nearly every note himself and also handled production duties. While Macca handles the standard bass, drums, guitar, piano and organ, he also works xylophone, Mellotron, and organ into the mix. The material here is a blend of white soul, hummable pop, and lightly rocking numbers that succeed via their modest charm and ageless melodies. He also calls on then-wife Linda McCartney to supply background vocals.
Part of the icon's ongoing Archive Collection, McCartney has been remastered at Abbey Road from the original master tapes by the same engineering team responsible for the internationally acclaimed Beatles reissues. We assure you that this 1970 masterwork has never sounded better, and the gatefold packaging looks stunning. In addition, McCartney has unlocked the vault and supplied seven rare and previously unreleased tracks to add to the album's overall enjoyment and context. Not surprisingly, Macca himself oversaw the entire reissue.
Pop fans and music connoisseurs, this is what is deemed essential. Grab McCartney and its natural bookend McCartney II on audiophile vinyl and immerse yourself in the sounds of the artist who's the mot successful musician and composer in history.

Macca's 1980 Adventurous, Synth-Dominant Studio Set His First Post-Wings Solo Effort
McCartney Personally Supervised the Reissue: McCartney Also Available on 180g 2LP
Originally released in 1980 and the first album he released after disbanding Wings, McCartney II echoed back to Paul McCartney's titanic 1970 solo debut in that the former Beatle took a singular, do-it-yourself approach to its composition and creation. Eager to expand from the pop he'd been plying with Wings, the legendary singer-songwriter obsesses over synthesizer potential throughout the record's 11 tracks, all of which opt for a more electronic feel and experimental ambience.
Reaching #1 in the UK, and #3 in the U.S., McCartney II yielded myriad enduring classics such as "Coming Up," "Waterfalls," and "Temporary Secretary." And as he did in 1970, McCartney calls on then-wife Linda McCartney to supply background vocals but handles everything else on his own. Clearly playing with something to prove, the boundless musician employs cutting-edge synthesizers to craft memorable arrangements and soundscapes, while his inimitable vocals provide unforgettable timbres and complimentary tones.
Part of the icon's ongoing Archive Collection, McCartney II has been remastered at Abbey Road from the original master tapes by the same engineering team responsible for the internationally acclaimed Beatles reissues. We assure you that this 1980 landmark has never sounded better, and the gatefold packaging looks stunning. Flag is Classic JT: At-Home Folk Arrangements, Soft-Rock Coziness, Captivating Emotion
Narratives on 1979 Gem Peer into the Heart of Everyman and Everywoman
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Sonics As Mellifluous As Taylor's Voice on a Cool Summer Night
JT and Dad Loves His Work Also Available on 180g LP from Mobile Fidelity
James Taylor was an interesting place when he recorded the colossally underrated Flag. Fresh off his double-platinum J.T. (also available from Mobile Fidelity), the artist who defines the singer-songwriter genre had just collaborated with Art Garfunkel and Carly Simon, undertaken a Broadway musical, and become more active in political affairs. All these factors contribute to this 1979 treasure, which finds Taylor plying more of his trademark mellow vibes and insightful, soul-gazing lyrics.
While Flag has been previously remastered for CD, its never been sourced from the original analog master tapes. Mobile Fidelitys brilliant-sounding 180g LP is, and the results are as spectacular as chilling out to Taylors mellifluous voice on a summer night. Flush with exquisite acoustic textures, beautiful tonalities, and studio-perfect dynamics, this audiophile version brings Taylors music to life like never before.
Having landed in the Top Ten and sold more than two million copies, Flag nonetheless remains one of Taylors most under-appreciated efforts. And its not because the content is lacking. The beloved singer enters his hallmark storytelling mode on Sleep Come Free Me and dizzies the senses with the beloved Rainy Day Man. Drawing from his musical Working (based on legendary author Studs Terkels book of the same name), Millworker and Brother Trucker are lessons in character studies, Taylors narratives peering into the heart of blue-collar America and reflecting his knack for the everymanand everywoman.
Similarly, a pair of coversUp on the Roof and Day Trippershow his knack for reverent interpretation as well as originality. Flag reveals why we love JT. The literary descriptiveness, at-home folk arrangements, soft-rock fireplace coziness, captivating emotion, faithful tones, and stellar sense of instrumental placement, be it backing vocals, nuanced percussion, pedal-steel guitar, or subtle horns, the latter courtesy of do-it-all saxophonist David Sanborn. Alas, many of these facets have long gone unnoticed.
Ever since its original release, Flag has been plagued with muddled sound. No longer. Mobile Fidelitys analog reissue unlocks the well-kept sonic secrets and floods the record with the intimacy and impact that have always lurked underneath the surface. Finally, Taylors finite acoustic playing, well-mannered melodies, reflective words, and refined singing are experienced as a whole. The amount of new musical information thats been uncovered will boggle the minds of even the most ardent Taylor fans.
Trust us: Flag is one of Taylors finest works. After three decades, hear it all for yourself. And discover what is certain to become of your new favorite records.

1977 Smash Remains South Rock Legends Finest Hour: Includes Whats Your Name and That Smell
Last Album Made By Original Members Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins
Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI
Triple-Guitar Front of Steve Gaines, Gary Rossington, and Collins Remains Rocks Most Formidable Assembly of Six-String Players
Street Survivors remains Lynyrd Skynyrds finest hour, and for many reasons. The last album recorded with original vocalist Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines, who passed away in a tragic plane accident three days after its release, the 1977 set is both mythical for its historical significance as well as infallible songwriting quality. Then there's the triple-guitar front of Collins, Gary Rossington, and Steve Gaines, which, together, comprise the most formidable combination of lead six-string players assembled on an original album. Add in freshly inspired performances and classic Muscle Shoals production, and you have a timeless work of art.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI (the best record plant in North America), Mobile Fidelity Silver Series' limited edition LP presents Skynyrds landmark effort in a dynamic, organic, soulful, and balanced sound that puts the musicians on a wide soundstage that will make you think they are standing on a stage in your room. In particular, Van Zants re-energized singing comes through with utmost clarity and verve. The complex web of guitars is now unraveled, with each of the instrumentalists possessing their own space, allowing their contributions to assume a transparency that further lends to the musics impact. Background vocals, too, rise up above what had heretofore been an artificial ceiling.
Produced by iconic producer Tom Dowd, Street Survivors is drenched in earthy vibes and live-from-the-floor rawness, the sense of spontaneity and interplay underlining the groups taut albeit loose material. Rebounding from 1975s solid yet semi-formulaic Nuthin Fancy and the following years equally lukewarm Gimme Back My Bullets, Skynyrd comes out firing on Street Survivors and never let up. The septets nucleus was never better. It's lamentable that this stands as the lineups only studio record together, but the music here makes you all the more thankful for the chance to at least here them reach their potential at least once.
Gaines incredible abilities spur on his mates, which respond with strong ideas and even stronger performances. Melodies are sharp, hooks are abundant, rhythms in command. A miasma of blues, rock, country, gospel, and soul informs the arrangements, and those three guitarists play as if their lives depended on getting everything just right. Songs flow with an effortless ease, and whether its the slithering organ-backed rollick of I Never Dreamed, swampy drug-abuse warning That Smell, or autobiographical honky-tonk Ain't No Good Life, Skynryd clicks on all cylinders. Swagger, swing, and strut. What an album.
Honor Van Zant and Collins memories, and revisit a Southern rock masterpiece, by acquiring this collectable version of Street Survivors.

1. What's Your Name
2. That Smell
3. One More Time
4. I Know A Little

 No Direction Home (200 Gram)
Bob Dylan
$99.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 4 LPs Box Set Sealed
|
The seventh volume of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series doubles as the soundtrack to No Direction Home, Martin Scorseses's feature-length documentary covering Dylan's career from its beginnings to 1966 (it was aired in two parts on PBS in September 2005 and released in expanded form on DVD that same month). Unlike the previous three installments of The Bootleg Series, which focused exclusively on live concerts, No Direction Home is assembled from a variety of sources, including home recordings, publishing demos, alternate studio takes, and live recordings, with the first disc devoted to early acoustic recordings and the second to electric music. In fact, No Direction Home proceeds chronologically, filling in gaps between the proper albums or, more often, providing a parallel history of the most productive era of Dylan's career. All of this material -- with the exception of Song to Woody, taken from his debut, and a cataclysmic version of Like a Rolling Stone taken from the Royal Albert Hall show that was released as Bob Dylan Live '66 -- is previously unreleased, and much of it has not been widely bootlegged (and the cuts that have been bootlegged, such as Dink's Song, have never been heard in such crystal-clear fidelity). Where the inaugural edition of The Bootleg Series had many previously unreleased Dylan originals, there is only one here, the tentative opener, When I Got Troubles, a sweet, simple 1959 song that finds Dylanin his formative stage. In place of unheard songs are a slew of alternate versions of familiar tunes. On the first two LP's, these are largely live versions of such warhorses as Blowin' in the Wind, Masters of War, and A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall, recorded when the songs were still fresh. These live performances have an immediacy and intimacy that not only illustrate what a powerful folksinger Dylan was, but also suggest how the songs might have sounded when they were new tunes. Toward the end of the second LP, alternate versions that are significantly different from the final versions begin to surface with an early take on Mr. Tambourine Man recorded at the Another Side of Bob Dylan sessions with Ramblin' Jack Elliott on second guitar and backing vocals. The third and fourth LP's contain several alternates that are similarly notably different, highlighted by a lively, careening It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry with a different final verse, a Desolation Row with electric guitar, Highway 61 Revisited without the siren whistle, a slower, heavier, blusier take on Leopard-Skin Pill Box Hat, a relaxed version of Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again that lacks the carnivalesque swirl of sound from the Blonde on Blonde version, and a lean, insistent Visions of Johanna.
Everything here is uniformly excellent and worth hearing well more than once. That alone, of course, would make this yet another worthwhile addition to any serious Dylan collection, but what makes No Direction Home noteworthy as an album is that it is the first Dylan record to offer an aural biography of Dylan. This does a superb job of tracing the development of Dylan as a musician, taking him from a young folkie singing standards, through the rush of his early standards, and to the visionary music he made once he went electric. Put in this context, the electric music on the third and fourth LP's sounds as bracing and brilliant and surprising as it did in the '60s, while the acoustic folk on LP's one and two sounds vibrant, pure, and alive. After all these years, that's a hard accomplishment to pull off, and to the credit of everybody involved in this terrific release, they've been able to make even the most familiar Dylan tunes feel new again.
As usual, this deluxe edition comes from the original mix down masters and was transferred by Bernie Grundman to lacquer on on Classic's all tube analog cutting system. This deluxe 4-LP set includes two alternate cover art gatefold jackets (Blonde on Blonde and Bringing it all Back Home), a 60+ page 12 x12 booklet all housed in an a special outer box.

 Come Taste The Band
Deep Purple
$34.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
35th Anniversary Edition. "Come Taste the Band" is the tenth studio album by the English rock band Deep Purple. It is the only Deep Purple studio record featuring Tommy Bolin, who replaced Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. When Blackmore left the band, many observers and critics assumed that Deep Purple would not continue. It was David Coverdale who asked Jon Lord to keep the band together, and Tommy Bolin was asked to take the guitar slot.
Musically, the album is more commercial than previous Deep Purple releases, leaning toward a conventional hard rock focus with overtones of soul and funk. The album shows the strong funk influence from Glenn Hughes at this point, who had formed a bond with the equally funk and jazz influenced Bolin, but the direction tended to be more like 1974's Burn, with a heavier focus on hard rock. The recording with Bolin also allowed the band to take many creative liberties, as Ritchie Blackmore had been somewhat difficult to work with at this point in the band's career.

Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The NIght)

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

With his reintroduction to the pop world behind him, renowned singer-songwriter Yusuf (the artist known as Cat Stevens) is ready to once again strike up an intimate relationship with his audience. After retreating from the pop stage following classic '70s multi-platinum albums such as Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat and acclaimed hits such as Wild World, Peace Train, Moonshadow, Morning Has Broken and Father And Son, Yusuf returned in late 2006 with his first pop album in 28 years. Now he's back again with a second album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night).
I was absent from my audience for so long, Yusuf says, people thought another album would never come. The 2006 album, An Other Cup, was a surprise. With this new album, the distance is much less. I'm back to doing what I do best, painting pictures with music and storytelling on a very human, personal, intuitive level through lyrics and song, so I can help people feel good again. I guess in some ways the new album picks up where the Cat Stevens the public knows left off.
The album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night), was produced by the now singularly named Yusuf with help from Martin Terefe (James Morrison, Jason Mraz, Martha Wainwright), and recorded around the world. Guests include Morrison, Michelle Branch and Holly Williams (granddaughter of Hank Williams, Sr.).
The new album is a response to the way An Other Cup was received, Yusuf explains. Fans said they wanted to hear more of me with a guitar. So, this album is much more folk-tale oriented. Also, apart from one track, all of it was recorded live. I listened to a lot of' '70s L.A. music, such as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carole King, and it inspired me to go back into that intimate style of recording. The songs are somewhat autobiographical but abstract enough so everyone can relate to them and connect them to their own lives.
The title track, Roadsinger, unfolds the tale of an outcast who revisits his old hometown; along the empty street a child peeks from behind a store window and gives an innocent smile out of the shadows of prejudice. The theme of a journey has always been big with me, says Yusuf. A journey that was unexpectedly cut short in 2004 was when Yusuf was flying from his London home to Washington, D.C., en route to a meeting with Dolly Parton, who had recorded Peace Train several years earlier and wanted Yusuf to play guitar on her cover of his Where Do the Children Play. The incident that made headlines was resolved in 2006 and Yusuf's new song Boots and Sand resulted.
There are plenty people who sing, but not enough who have walked far from their block, he says. I embraced an unexpected spiritual path that was confusing for many (converting to Islam in 1977). Sadly, I'm still often misunderstood. Some people want to put me into their own one-sided view, but I don't fit those limitations. My world is still borderless and wide. The removal of conflict and establishment of peace has always been my global objective. It's a shame that lot of people, including some Muslims, overlook the name Islam, which actually comes from the word 'Peace' in Arabic.
The forthcoming album also showcases some songs from his upcoming musical Moonshadow. The story takes place on a planet of perpetual night where only the moon's shine lights the darkness; it is about a boy's meeting with his Moonshadow and the adventures they share in search for the a world of the sunlight and happiness. As well as having many new songs, the surrealistic musical, Moonshadow also weaves classic songs from his past, including Morning Has Broken, Wild World and The First Cut Is The Deepest.
Yusuf's return to his guitar came about when his teenage artist-musician son, Muhammad (aka Yoriyos), brought one home again. One morning, Yusuf was alone in the lounge when he looked over and felt a draw of curiosity overtake him. He slowly picked it up. I put my fingers on the fretboard to make a 'C' chord, he remembers, and surprised myself, It's still there! It felt right. So I started playing again. On the forthcoming album, Yusuf even plays electric guitar on a couple of tracks, along with keyboards. This part of my career feels similar in one sense to when I began, Yusuf reflects. I had to get past the songs on Mona Bone Jakon before I could move on to Tea For The Tillerman, etc. This time around it was the same story: I laid the groundwork with my debut album, An Other Cup, which inspired a great new collection of songs and scribblings. I had quite a few in my back pocket and again it was my son who sparked the next step. He said, 'Isn't it time to start recording a new album?' And it was.

Alice has been called Wait's long-lost masterpiece. Originally performed as an opera directed by Robert Wilson for Hamburg's Thalia Theatre in 1992, but left unrecorded until 2001. The show ran for a year and a half using an unusual orchestra designed by Waits to underpin the songs co-written with his wife Kathleen Brennen. Rather than being directly based on Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass, the Waits-Brennen Alice takes inspiration from feelings remembered and dreams recalled after reading the books. Released simultaneously with Blood Money.

 Waiting For Columbus
Little Feat
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

When you think about great live albums, several immediately come to mind. The Whos Live at Leeds. James Browns Live at the Apollo. The Allman Brothers Bands Live at Fillmore East. Kiss Alive! Nirvanas Unplugged. And, while it is sometimes unjustifiably forgotten, Little Feats Waiting for Columbus. The last essential album the rootsy California band made, it stands as the groups peak accomplishmenta staggering confluence of energetic performances, skilled improvisations, and thematic expansion.
Joined onstage by the Tower of Power horn section, Little Feat accentuates and remakes familiar arrangements, using the stage as a laboratory for unbridled creativity, New Orleans-spiced fun, and spontaneous interaction. Bursting with enthusiasm and excitement, Waiting for Columbus is truly a live album for the agesand one of a certain distinctive era.
The abundance of great music, the culture of drugs, and the politics of Richard Nixon, which had everyone polarized and created more of a sense of community, all contributed to this incredible feeling that somehow we were on a collective journey. Waiting for Columbus is one of the last parts of that journey, and among the last vestiges of that scene. Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne, as told to Bud Scoppa
Amazingly, the set came together under less-than-ideal conditions. In the months leading up to the seven 1977 Washington D.C. and London concerts that were taped for the record, leader Lowell George had removed himself from the bands affairs. The chemistry was fractured, but the shows functioned as a molding agent. And did Little Feat ever respond. With every member of the sextet playing like their life depended on it, and a guest appearance by ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, this is a must-have set.

 Dixie Chicken
Little Feat
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Stuffed with first-rate songwriting, humorous lyrics, and laidback funk, Dixie Chicken is Little Feats pinnacle studio album. The easygoing 1973 classic benefits from the departure of bassist Roy Estrada in that his exit meant the arrival of three new musicians: guitarist Paul Barrere, percussionist Sam Clayton, and bassist Kenny Gradney. The new additions fill out the bands sound and expand the stylistic palette, resulting in a more diversified rhythmic foundation and improved instrumental support. Little Feat also turn to New Orleans-rooted R&B for inspiration. It's this infatuation with the Big Easy, and supreme execution of the cajun-spiced style, that makes Dixie Chicken eminently enjoyable and soulful.
Leader and songwriter extraordinaire Lowell George is also at the top of his game. Standards such as the acoustic Roll Um Easy, keyboard-drenched Kiss It Off, and adroit title track hook the listener from the start, as does the timeless Fat Man in the Bathtub, a tune that continues Georges knack for twisted storytelling. Legendary New Orleans arranger Allen Toussaint contributes the intoxicating On Your Way Down, which the sextet turns into a slow dark blues that ripples with rock overtones. Thick grooves and sultry riffs abound throughout this brilliant set.
And ensemble playing doesnt get any better. Splitting the line between taut studio perfection and loose jamming, Little Feat lays down some of the most exhilarating slide-guitar and colorful percussive work heard on record. Several distinguished guests contribute to the party: Bonnie Raitt, Bonnie Bramlett, ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, and multi-instrumentalist Fred Tackett among them. In every sense, Dixie Chicken is the epitome of early 70s American rock and rollfunny, smart, relaxing, cohesive, melodic, smooth, stylish, engaging.
Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited-edition 180-gram LP allows Dixie Chicken to be experienced like never before. The first available domestic remastering, and only edition restored from the original source tapes, this is the only version to own. The sonic improvements will have you jumping for joy.

Follow-Up to Their Self-Titled Debut, Communique is One of The Most Under-Rated, Over-Looked Albums of All-Time!
Mastered from the Original Analog Tapes for Supreme Fidelity!
Warner Bros. Does LP Reissues Right: Best-Sounding Version of This Album You'll Ever Hear!
On their 1979 sophomore release Communique, Dire Straits continues to refine its pub-rock aesthetic with an unpretentious set of melancholy rock tunes. Mark Knopfler's penchant for cynical characters is further developed on tracks like Where Do You Think You're Going and News, while the presence of Jerry Wexler at the production helm ensures that the rest of the band keeps the rhythms extra tight.
Part of the reason for the bands uniqueness owes to its clean, vibrant sound. Just as Knopflers narratives reflect poetic and surrealist texts, the groups arrangements--an intoxicating combination of easygoing shuffles, bluesy boogies, and pop-honed ballads--mirror the old-fashioned soulfulness and spaciousness inherent in the classic recordings of the late 50s and early 60s. Its no wonder why Dire Straits has long been a favorite of audiophiles the world over. When it comes to sonic purity, transparent soundstages, and rich tonalities, few, if any bands sound better.
And now, thanks to the meticulous efforts of Warner Bros., Dire Straits 1979 masterwork can be experienced like never before. Remastered and cut from the original analog tapes and pressed on high-quality 180g vinyl, Communique is simply out-of-this-world good. Knopflers mesmerizing guitar textures and cool vocals appear as if theyre right in front of you. Details, imaging, and presence are on a level associated with the finest audiophile recordings.
As its proven for the last few years, Warner Bros. treats vinyl with the ultimate respect, and this must-have Dire Straits record is no exception. Listeners with original copies of the LP, or Simply Vinyls pressing, will be absolutely stunned upon hearing the improvements. And the rest of us can simply rejoice in knowing that Knoplfer's trademark tones, picking, and leads resonate with an airiness, openness, and palpability theyve never claimed prior. A five-star pressing!

Ranked 344/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Nowadays acclaimed as Lou Reed's best solo album, 'Berlin' is the follow up to Reed's 'Transformer'.
A tragic rock opera about a drug addicted couple, heavy orchestrated and musically far away from the glam-rock of 'Transformer' and closer to the art-rock of the Velvet Underground (there are 2 tracks here played live by Velvet Underground in 1966, and Caroline Says is of course a redo of Stephanie Says from Velvet Underground's self- titled album).
The album got poor reviews when released in July 1973. Nevertheless, like good wines, 'Berlin' has aged and proved an inspiration for many bands.
Lou Reed got so disillusioned by the harsh critics, he did not include songs form 'Berlin' (recorded in London w/Bob Ezrin) in his live set for years.
In 2007 Lou Reed fulfilled his hopes and toured 'Berlin' with a 30-piece band; this tour was filmed and released on dvd in 2008 (which got rave reviews...).
Musicians on LP: Lou Reed (vocals & acoustic guitar), Bob Ezrin, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Jack Bruce, Ansley Dunbar, Tony Levin, Steve Winwood, Steve Hunter, Dick Wagner a.o.

Blood Money uses the same template and players as Alice (released at the same time) and first saw life as an opera production by Robert Wilson. It's Waits's treatment of Georg Buchner's 1837 socio-political play, Woyzek which premiered in 2000 in Copenhagen. It's a dark morality play performed in a style where a barker from a medicine show is mysteriously transported to the Weimar Republic via Tin Pan Alley. Disturbing and delirious when it's not romantic and hilarious, the songs have a much more direct emotional appeal than the surrealistic Alice.

Singer-Pianist's Fourth Record Features Incredible Jazz Trio and Expressive Tales
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: You Will Not Find a Better-Sounding Version!
The Heart of Saturday Night, Nighthawks at the Diner, and Small Change Also Available on 180g LP from Warner Bros.
Floozies, strippers, bartenders, loners, crooked cops, bouncers, and alluring counter waitresses are just a few of the colorful characters that inhabit Tom Waits' wry tales of skid-row and strip-tease adventures on the amazing Small Change, the singer's most cohesive, playful, and head-turning record to date. For the 1976 date, Waits and a crack jazz trio--tenor saxophonist Lew Tabackin, bassist Jim Highart, and drummer Shelly Manne--create a rhythmic, sympathetic set of tunes that traverse jump blues to lonesome piano ballads. The record includes the poignant Tom Traubert's Blues, arguably Waits' most well-known song.
While Waits had mined seedy joints and sketchy patrons since his 1973 debut, they come into clearer focus here. So does Waits' increasingly prevalent wit and down-and-out comic humor. Rather than cry in his beer, he uses irony and jokes to kill the pain, and on the frantic Step Right Up, turns into a sleazy auctioneer on what is his initial foray into a voice that he'd revisit again during his career while skewering conventions, greed, and stupidity. Manne and company afford the singer a sodium-light moodiness that comes on like a blinking neon beer sign. Small Change is a masterwork of nocturnal emotion and lyrical poetry, with Waits perfecting drunken vocal inflections and the raspy, rubbery phrasings garnered from chief influence Louis Armstrong.
An artist whose popularity spans generations and is equally prized by both older and younger audiences, Waits' records remain in constant demand, particularly on vinyl, where they fetch top dollar on the used market. Despite several import LP versions, no edition of Small Change has ever claimed audiophile-quality sound. Which is reason enough why Warner Bros.' reissues of the singer's first four albums on 180g vinyl are worth celebrating and immediately owning.
Mastered from the original master tapes, this is the first time that any of Waits' formative work has been upgraded and comes on with a presence, immediacy, and detail that have always been missing. Do not miss this incredible pressing!

Singer-Pianist Takes the Nightclub Inside the Recording Studio for Legendary 1975 Double Album
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: You Will Not Find a Better-Sounding Version!
The Heart of Saturday Night, Closing Time, and Small Change Also Available on 180g LP from Warner Bros.
A still-novel idea and an even better album, Tom Waits' Nighthawks At The Diner literally brings the atmosphere of a nightclub into the studio as, for the sessions, Waits concocted a club in the studio and invited a live audience to the recording sessions. Intimate, spontaneous, and filled with late-night vibes, the 1975 double LP is an American classic.
Already championed on the strength of his first two albums, Waits' increased maturity is in evidence throughout, as his now-trademark humor comes into fore on songs such as Emotional Weather Report and Better Off Without a Wife. He's almost an advertisement for the allure of whiskey and pills to cure loneliness, but remains willing to bear the lonesomeness cross for others around him.
And, thanks to the studio set-up, Waits' framing of songs with elaborate scenery and graphic detail have never been stronger. A crack band that includes drummer Bill Goodwin, bassist Jim Hughart, tenor saxophonist Peter Christlieb, and pianist Mike Melvoin supplies the sonic landscape. Waits' rich, theatrical voice and guttersnipe poetry do the rest. As do his colorful introductions to the fare.
An artist whose popularity spans generations and is equally prized by both older and younger audiences, Waits' records remain in constant demand, particularly on vinyl, where they fetch top dollar on the used market. Despite several import LP versions, no edition of Nighthawks at the Diner has ever claimed audiophile-quality sound.
