In 1972, David Bowie set out on his first U.S. tour. He'd recently introduced the world to his Ziggy Stardust persona with his top 5 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and had completed a hugely successful U.K. tour. The Santa Monica concert, David's first live U.S. radio broadcast, was aired live on KMET in L.A. Over the last 36 years this historic recording has only been occasionally available as a bootleg. For many, ownership of this concert was regarded as a true test of being a 'proper Bowie fan'. This powerful, galvanizing show allows over a 70 minute glimpse into the earliest nationwide live radio exposure granted David and the Spiders.
The set list is compiled primarily from the Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust albums and features two covers, Jacques Brel's "My Death" and the Velvet Underground's "Waiting for the Man," alongside the awesome power of The Man Who Sold The World centerpiece "The Width Of A Circle" (this version is a ten and a half minute sonic assault) and an Aladdin Sane previewing "The Jean Genie."
Accompanying David here was The Spiders From Mars featuring Mick Ronson (guitar, vocals), Trevor Bolder (bass), Mick "Woody" Woodmansey (drums) and Mike Garson (piano).
"I can tell that I'm totally into being Ziggy by this stage of our touring. It's no longer an act; I am him. This would be around the tenth American show for us and you can hear that we are all pretty high on ourselves. We train wreck a couple of things, I miss some words and sometimes you wouldn't know that pianist Mike Garson was onstage with us but overall I really treasure this bootleg. Mick Ronson is at his blistering best!" - David Bowie

In 2006, Rapster released the acclaimed Exit Music album featuring adventurous new covers of Radiohead songs by artists as diverse as Sa-Ra, Matthew Herbert and Mark Ronson, whose version of "Just" has endured as one of his most in-demand tracks.
In 2007, as David Bowie turned 60, Rapster embarked on a follow-up, seeing out electronic artists that have been heavily influenced by the legacy of the Thin White Duke. The selected artists could choose any track from his catalog and create their own fresh interpretation, however faithful or different to the original. The result is a fascinating range of interpretations by some of the leading players in today's electronic music from Detroit's Matthew Dear and Carl Craig to Joakim, Playgroup and Au Revoir Simone, all tapping into the cryptic, expressionist core of Bowie originals.
Bowie's Low, one of the famed 'Berlin Trilogy' produced by Brian Eno and the pre-Eno R&B and electronics of Station To Station both loom large as an obvious root source to the machine music of 2008. Elsewhere, the new versions reference Ziggy Stardust's cosmic glam and the cinematic low art of Hunky Dory. Even less acclaimed Bowie albums are re-visited including the Labyrinth soundtrack from 1989 and the dramatic stylings of Tonight from '84.
Life Beyond Mars features specially commissioned illustrated artwork by Berlin artist Maria Tackmann.

“One day I blew my nose and half my brains came out.” Los Angeles, 1976. David Bowie is holed up in his Bel-Air mansion, drifting into drug-induced paranoia and confusion. Obsessed with black magic and the Holy Grail, he’s built an altar in the living room and keeps his fingernail clippings in the fridge. There are occasional trips out to visit his friend Iggy Pop in a mental institution. His latest album is the cocaine-fuelled Station To Station (Bowie: “I know it was recorded in LA because I read it was”), which welds R&B rhythms to lyrics that mix the occult with a yearning for Europe, after three mad years in the New World. Bowie has long been haunted by the angst-ridden, emotional work of the Die Brucke movement and the Expressionists. Berlin is their spiritual home, and after a chaotic world tour, Bowie adopts this city as his new sanctuary. Immediately he sets to work on Low, his own expressionist mood-piece.

The majority of Aladdin Sane, the follow-up to David Bowie's breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, was culled from his 1972 U.S. tour and it finds Bowie still exploring science fiction styled alter-egos. In addition to the title track, "The Jean Genie" and "Drive-in Saturday," Aladdin Sane also boasts an up-tempo cover of the Rolling Stones' "Let's Spend The Night Together." Unfortunately this watershed album would also be the last to feature Bowie's tried and true backing band of Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey.

Originally released in 1974, Diamond Dogs was David Bowie's first release following the departure of his back-up band the Spiders From Mars. Initially Bowie had intended on making a theatrical production of 1984, but the Orwell estate denied rights so Diamond Dogs is the remnants of the work done for that production. The set features "1984," "Candidate," "Diamond Dogs" and the classic Bowie track "Rebel Rebel."

Space Oddity was a giant leap forward for David Bowie in terms of songwriting as compared to his eponymous debut and it is considered the first truly essential Bowie release. Noted for a list of collaborators, including session players Herbie Flowers, Tim Renwick, Terry Cox and Rick Wakeman, Space Oddity delves into psychedelic folk-rock, as well as prog, with its genre-defying template and it helped create a blueprint that over the next decade would make Bowie the most inimitable British artists.
