Christmas On Mars is a fantastical and disturbing film freakout. You didn't actually expect anything less from The Flaming Lips did you? Seven years in the making, Christmas On Mars was directed and written by The Flaming Lips’ visionary frontman Wayne Coyne and features the band members and many of their associates as actors in a story set during the colonization of Mars. The 86-minute film and its original score are presented in a stand-alone DVD and a Green Colored Vinyl LP of the score. The set also includes a bonus 7". With Christmas On Mars, psychedelia finally has its epic film.
On the DVD (in Amaray packaging), which includes the film, the score may be heard in 5.1 Surround and stereo mixes. Also included are 25 minutes of band interviews, behind the scenes footage, Russian subtitles, a secret outtake scene and more.
“Destined for cult status. It’s about textures: black-and-white images with psychedelic bursts; dashes of David Lynch, the ’70s midnight movie Dark Star and 2001 and an echo of The Wizard Of Oz!” — The New York Times

It’s been nearly a quarter of a century since one of the most celebrated, and influential bands of our generation, Love And Rockets formed. In 1985 Daniel Ash (guitars, saxophone, and vocals), David J (bass and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums, synthesizers) departed from being gothic rock icons with the highly coveted Bauhaus and merged sparkling new wave disco dust influenced T. Rex boogie, rockabilly, punk, folk, proto-rave, and psychedelia into one big ball of confusion.
So it’s only natural that eventually similar minded multi-facted artists including both legends such as Frank Black, Flaming Lips, Stephen Perkins (Janes Addiction) Dandy Warhols, and newer buzzworthy acts A Place to Bury Strangers, Snowden, War Tapes, and Blaqk Audio pay their respect to a band whom had influenced their style.
In addition to musicians going on record for New Tales To Tell, supergroups were being formed with Dance-techno meets cabaret-goth on “Yin and Yang And The Flowerpot Man”
provided by Halloween Jack, which includes members of Jane’s Addiction (Stephen Perkins), Guns N’ Roses (Gilby Clarke) and Alice Cooper (Eric Dover). While the other supergroup features Puscifer-MJ Keenan (Maynard from Tool/ A Perfect Circle/Puscifer) along with Thomas Froggatt of She Wants Revenge on Bass and Mark Chaussee-formerly of Marilyn Manson-Danzig & Fight performing “Holiday On The Moon” from the album Express.
Influences appear in every art form on New Tales To Tell. Lending his talent is artist Shepard Fairey, who’s most recent work became more widely known in the 2008 United States Presidential Election, specifically his Barack Obama “HOPE” poster. Shepard designed the cover art for this Tribute album.
“We have been knocked out by the response to this. So many of these interpretations are quite inspired. We should have done it like that! — David J (Love And Rockets)
“The creativity and production that has been put in to these tracks is quite impressive. I feel honored that these artists have taken the time to craft such excellent versions and it’s also really interesting to hear contemporary renderings of these songs.” — Kevin Haskins (Love And Rockets)

Embryonic is The Flaming Lips' 12th studio album and first double LP. According to ringleader Wayne Coyne, Embryonic was conceived as a double album as a means of forcing the band to become more free and uninhibited. “I believe I was stuck thinking of us as being a group of reckless, sloppy freaks,” he explains “and that, if we weren’t constantly trying to be more disciplined or more refined or more together, maybe our creative luck would elude us.” As the title suggests, Embryonic has an air of being a work in progress rather than a completed action and it makes for some very exciting and liberating music from one of music's most enigmatic performers.
"It sounds like John Lennon but if he got together with Miles Davis and they went back in time, but there was a supercomputer that they could figure out how to work." - Wayne Coyne/NME on Embryonic

The final pre-major label album from The Flaming Lips brought a huge shift in sound that would define their work over the greater part of the next decade. The first album to feature Mercury Rev's Jonathan Donahue on guitar, In A Priest Driven Ambulance features more structured songwriting and tighter production. The lyrical wit and insight of Wayne Coyne had never been better as his obsession with religious imagery moved to the forefront. Deluxe reissue on pink vinyl.
Experimental, even by The Flaming Lips standards, the band's third album is a glorious and mind-expanding mix of heavily effected guitar solos, backwards recordings and surrealistic imagery. Again, the classic song titles keep coming with "Chrome Plated Suicide," "Hari-Krishna Stomp Wagon (Fuck Led Zeppelin)" and "Drug Machine in Heaven." Telepathic Surgery became a big influence on many bands such as Mercury Rev, Beck, Granddaddy and The Olivia Tremor Control. Deluxe reissue on blue vinyl.

The Soft Bulletin Flaming Lips $29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP + CD - 2 LPs Sealed
One of the most respected and innovative bands in music, The Flaming Lips scored a major breakthrough with 1999’s The Soft Bulletin, the group’s most accessible album to that point. Courageous, accomplished and exploding with imagination and sonic texture, the album topped more than 60 year-end “best of” lists, helped rank the psychedelic-noisepopsters among the world’s most influential bands and led to the bestselling success of 2002’s Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. After lauded indie albums, The Flaming Lips debuted on Warner Bros. in 1991 with the masterful Hit To Death In The Future Head. The Flaming Lips (formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1983) are an acclaimed American alternative rock band.
Although the Flaming Lips take an indie rock/post-punk approach to rock music, the band is known for their lush, multi-layered, psychedelic arrangements, spacey lyrics and bizarre song titles (for example, "Pilot Can at the Queer of God", "Free Radicals (A Hallucination of the Christmas Skeleton Pleading with A Suicide Bomber)" or "Yeah, I Know It's A Drag... But Wastin' Pigs Is Still Radical"). They are also acclaimed for their elaborate live shows featuring fursuits, balloons, puppets, video projections, complex stage light configurations, and large amounts of confetti. In 2002, Q magazine named The Flaming Lips one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die".
The group recorded several albums and EPs on an indie label in the 1980s and early 1990s. After signing to Warner Brothers, they scored a hit in 1993 with "She Don’t Use Jelly". Although it has been their only hit single in the U.S., the band has maintained critical respect and, to a lesser extent, commercial viability through albums such as 1999’s The Soft Bulletin, 2002’s Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and 2006’s At War with the Mystics. They have also had more hit singles in the UK and Europe than in the U.S.
