The second studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Released in September 1970, the album was the only one by the band to top the UK Albums Chart, and as a result is commonly identified as the band's magnum opus. Venom formed in late 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Coming to prominence towards the end of the 'New Wave of British Heavy Metal,' Venom are widely regarded as highly influential, particularly for their first two albums, Welcome To Hell (1981) and Black Metal (1982). The title of Venom's second album would become influential and definitive enough to describe an entire subgenre called black metal, a category under which the band is most commonly referred.

Released on May 25, 1983, the album has been hailed by critics as Dio's best work and a classic staple in the heavy metal genre. The album was eventually certified Gold in the US on September 12, 1984 and Platinum on March 21, 1989. In the UK, it attained Silver certification (60,000 units sold) by the British Phonographic Industry, achieving this in January 1986, at the same time as The Last in Line.

Filosofem (somber) is the fifth album from Varg Vikernes, recorded right before he was imprisoned for the murder of Mayhem's guitarist/leader Euronymous. The album expands on the synth/keyboard ideas put forth on Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, culminating in in the melancholy ode Dunkelheit, which was sort of a breakthrough song for this one-man band. Whereas the earlier Burzum albums still tended to reference traditional black metal, by the time of this recording Varg was off on a tangent by himself, and it shows in the chilling, otherworldly and occult melodies on display here. This also marks what was probably the true beginning of his obsession with minimalistic composing. Jesus' Tod, is an absolutely mesmerizing piece that centers around a single series of raw guitar riffs repeated until you are deeply lost inside the echoing hallways of this artist's iconoclastic genius for dark music. Many consider this recording to be his finest hour.

Witchfinder General are a doom metal band from Stourbridge, England. They were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene and have been cited as a major influence on the doom metal genre. Death Penalty is the debut album by NWOBHM band Witchfinder General. It was released in 1982 on Heavy Metal Records. The album received some criticism for the cover photograph, which featured topless model Joanne Latham. The photograph had been taken in the yard of St Mary the Blessed Virgin Church in Enville, Staffordshire, without the permission of the local Reverend. The album was originally released on LP and picture disc and was later reissued on CD. Pictured on the cover is Phil Cope, Zeeb Parkes, Graham Ditchfield and a member of the then Road Crew. While Peter Hinton is credited with producing this recording the writers Phil Cope and Zeeb Parkes always felt the credit should have gone to the engineer Robin George.

Before Acid Bath dismantled in 1997 they created their second and final full-length album Paegan Terrorism Tactics which futher established the band's unique Southern hybrid of metal with a more melodic songwriting approach. The songs are stylistically all over the map, but bound together in part by frontman Dax Riggs' powerful singing and dark lyrics. Remastered on vinyl for the first time!

They released their second album “Witch Hunter” in 1985. After this album was completed, Eckardt left the band; he was replaced by C.F. Brank. Further festival appearances, a tour as the supporting act for Helloween, and a triple headlining tour with Celtic Frost and Helloween, followed before the release of the third album “War Games” in January 1986. Thereafter, Peter Masson gave way to Uwe Lulis; in 1987 the band's name was changed to Digger, the name under which they released the album “Stronger than Ever”.

This album hardly had anything in common with the earlier music of Grave Digger. It was more an attempt to reach the masses with mainstream rock like that of Bon Jovi or Van Halen. The album flopped, as it was not readily accepted by fans nor the mainstream. As a result, Chris Boltendahl declared the break up of the band at the end of 1987.

However, the band partially reformed in 1991. Chris Boltendahl and Uwe Lulis, along with two newcomers, Tomi Göttlich and Jörg Michael, who had been the drummers for Rage and Running Wild, released a comeback record, “The Reaper”. The title song returned to the true roots of Grave Digger. In the same year, the album “Best of the Eighties” was released and comprised a quasi Best-of-Album of their earlier songs.

The album “Symphony of Death” followed in 1994. In the meantime, Grave Digger, now with a new drummer, Frank Ullrich, toured Germany, playing as the supporting act for Manowar. In 1995, the album “Heart of Darkness” was released—a very dark album influenced by the early works of Annihilator.

This German black metal/thrash trio was formed in 1983 by Tom Angelripper (bass, vocals), Aggressor (vocals, guitar) and Chris Witchhunter (drums), drawing inspiration from bands such as Motrhead, Anvil and Venom. Aggressor was replaced by the similarly pseudonymous Grave Violator on the agenda-setting debut EP, In The Sign Of Evil. By the time Obsessed By Cruelty emerged in 1986, Grave Violator had been replaced by Destructor. The latter was in turn replaced by Frank `Blackfire` Gosdzik on 1987`s Expurse Of Sodomy EP. Persecution Mania followed in the same year and marked a vast improvement over their debut, though lyrics had not moved on from obsessions with war, bloodlust and the black arts. Produced by Harris Johns, it had a crisp and powerful sound and was to become the band`s bestselling release.

Sodom toured Europe in 1988 with Whiplash and recorded Mortal Way Of Live, the first ever double live thrash album. Agent Orange followed in 1989 and they were supported by Sepultura on a European tour to help promote it. Michael Hoffman was recruited as the new guitarist when Blackfire left for Kreator in 1990, but was in turn replaced by Andy Brings on 1992`s Tapping The Vein. Following the release of this album long-time drummer Witchhunter was replaced by Atomic Steif. Further personnel changes included yet another guitar players, Strahli, on 1995`s Masquerade In Blood. The band`s first album for the Gun label, 1997`s `Til Death Do Us Unite, saw Angelripper joined by Bernemann (guitar) and Bobby Schottkowski (drums). The band continued to release a steady flow of albums during the late 90s and into the new millennium.

Fallen is the 9th studio album from Burzum, and follows the highly critically acclaimed 2010 release Belus which put Burzum straight back at the top of the chain as one of the most innovative and creative metal artists of our time. Fallen follows Belus in sound and structure, and can also be compared to the music on the groundbreaking DET SOM ENGANG VAR. Fallen is more dynamic and hard hitting then Belus and has an even bigger sound, but still carries the same trademark melody lines throughout that make Burzum sound so iconic and unique. If noise music, the genre to which Prurient has most often been assigned, is about confrontation, exploration, and defying expectations, this release measures up on all counts. Yet, much of what made past work identifiable as noise music harsh textures, screams washed in seas of static, clanging unidentified percussion is now gone. Those elements which formerly provided a valuable counterpoint to the harsh din of Prurient's core sound buried melodies, passages of relative serenity, and occasional spoken word bits have come to the fore. A sense of naked clarity and uncomfortable intimacy now brings the listener closer to the world as described the music, rather than pushing away the would-be voyeuristic observer. This is best illustrated on the title track of the EP, "Times Arrow," where a glistening synth melody lays atop an undeniably dancey beat, over which a fragmented, but clearly discernable narrative is intoned - sinister in character to be sure, but also clearly without any element that could be described as overtly aggressive.

I would say that this album is the result of pure anger (note: I destroyed 3 microphones during the production). Following our experiences with I'm A Rebel, we made it our goal not to be influenced musically by anyone outside of the band this time. One example are the lyrics of Son of a Bitch that are absolutely anti record company. With this album you can say that the Accept sound was born and brought us attention across Europe and a tour with Judas Priest. Walls of Jericho is the debut full length studio album by German power metal band Helloween, released in 1985. The album played a major part in the development of power metal. In October of 1985 the band released their first full length album, "Walls Of Jericho", also produced by Harris Johns. The band also recorded the "Judas EP" which contained a new non album track entitled "Judas' Helloween" captured the media's attention and received great reviews all over the world. This stunning re-issue includes all the tracks from the mini LP and includes the title track from the Judas single.

Damage Done is the sixth full-length studio album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity. In this album, the band returned to a more classic style while holding the new changes made in their albums Haven and Projector, specially in the keyboards, but this is the fist album since projector without clean vocals. Also, Martin Henriksson started doing some lead guitar riffs in this album, so the band showed influences from The Gallery in the duality of lead guitars. Mikael Stanne said that the lyrics in this album are about the frailty of life.

Attera Totus Sanctus (intended Latin translation of Destroy All the Holy) is Dark Funeral's 4th full length studio album. It was originally released on October 24, 2005 in Europe through Regain Records, and on November 29, 2005 in the United States through Candlelight Records USA. The title was chosen to convey the band's vehement anti-Right-Hand Path stance. Dismember is the ultimate death metal album from one of the finest Swedish bands. Dismember have lost nothing in terms of intensity. The sheer pace and passion of the songs are blistering and the vocal sounds as pissed off as ever. Powerful riffs that are not in short demand, plenty of lead works and amazingly melodic harmonies are what the metal scene needed and Dismember have them in huge spades. This is definitely one of the best death metal releases in many, many years.

Anthrax is an American heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981. The band was one of the most popular of the 1980s thrash metal scene. Cradle of Filth's second official release, following The Principle of Evil Made Flesh. Despite the circumstances in which it was written and recorded, it was well received by critics and a handful of its tracks are staples of the band's live sets to this day. V Empire sees a step up in production from the band's debut and introduces the fast, highly technical instrumentation that would be the hallmark of the bands next few releases. The overall delivery is faster, more brutal and symphonic than the more streamlined "Principle". It includes a re-recorded version of "The Forest Whispers My Name." and includes songs written by both the 'Principle' line up and the new recording line up. This is where the band's lyrics began to manifest more as gothic poetry, fusing the band's brief satanic elements with depictions of macabre romance and vampirism that would encompass their later lyrical themes.
