Blue Bash Kenny Burrell $18.99
High-Definition Vinyl LP - Sealed
Another side of the multi-faceted Mr. Burrell is fully revealed on Verve’s Blue Bash! by Kenny Burrell and Jimmy Smith, a 1963 set which finds the storied twosome focused strictly on blues-related material. Burrell’s flowing guitar lines are the perfect complement to the soulful sound of Smith, the man who almost single-handedly pioneered the use of the Hammond B3 organ in jazz. Backed at times by bassists George Duvivier and Milt Hinton as well as powerful big-band drummer Mel Lewis, Burrell and Smith dig into the gospel-ish “Travelin’” with as much fervor as they lavish on the Little Willie John/Peggy Lee chart item “Fever.” But it’s the azure side of such standards as “Easy Living” and “Soft Winds” that rules the roost on this superb collaboration.

Wes Montgomery demonstrates on his 1964 Verve debut album, Movin’ Wes, just what fabulous sounds he coaxes from his instrument, no matter how he gets it done. Wes is accompanied here by a 12-piece mini-big band consisting of multi-reed man Jerome Richardson, a trumpet section consisting of Clark Terry and Basie veterans Ernie Royal and Snooky Young, trombonists Urbie Green and Jimmy Cleveland and a rhythm section of pianist Bobby Scott, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Grady Tate. Wes shines like a diamond on show tunes “People” and “Matchmaker,” moody Ellington chestnut “Caravan” and a handful of originals, forever reversing the old proverb: It ain’t the way you do it, it’s what you do. Rest assured, Wes Montgomery can do it.

Smokin’ at the Half Note by Wes Montgomery and Wynton Kelly, originally released by Verve in 1965, shouldn’t need a build-up for anyone whose ears have been open for the last 40 years. When you begin a live session with 13 minutes of “No Blues,” a cornerstone of the Miles Davis Quintet with Hank Mobley, circa 1961, you’d better have your stuff together. Montgomery, one of a handful of truly great 20th century jazz guitarists, and Kelly, the ultimate piano accompanist, are backed by Miles’ fabulous Kind of Blue rhythm section consisting of bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb. This 1965 live set, is indeed smoking! From a churning “If You Could See Me Now,” written by bebop piano great Tadd Dameron, to Wes’ own tour de force, “Four On Six,” Montgomery and Kelly are two Jazz giants cutting loose with the best they’ve got.

"…As much as I'd love to relay all kinds of anecdotes about the challenges Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray encounter during the mastering sessions, I witness none. These boys know the sound of the facility and the Van Gelder masters like the backs of their hands…Back home a month later, I unpack some test pressings Chad Kassem has sent me…I hear the most realistic-sounding drums ever reproduced by my system. It's as though I'm sitting at the point of creation, experiencing the same high that brought such gifted musicians together as one. Steve Hoffman, Kevin Gray, Chad Kassem, and Don MacInnis have done Rudy Van Gelder and his Blue Note artists proud." – Jason Victor Serinus, Stereophile, April 2008
Since his days with the Bud Powell Trio, drummer Art Taylor was an invaluable member of the Blue Note recording family. A.T.'s Delight is the only album made under his own name for the label and it is a remarkable one. Choosing great compositions by Coltrane, Monk, Denzil Best and Kenny Dorham, Taylor assembled a great quintet fronted by Dave Burns and Stanley Turrentine, often adding Patato's congas to the proceedings. The unique and varied arrangements and great playing pay tribute to the drummer's exceptional song selection.

Waltz for Debby Bill Evans Trio $24.99

"…On Waltz for Debby, recorded live at the Village Vanguard in 1961, Bill Evans perfected the jazz trio: all three parts equal, yet integrated into song forms. The sound quality is near-perfect." – Fred Kaplan, Stereophile, February 2007
This is the second of two Riverside albums made up of selections recorded by the classic Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro, and Paul Motian trio at their legendary live recording session of June 25, 1961. Although originally issued a half-year later than Sunday At The Village Vanguard, this was by no means an afterthought collection of lesser items: Evans and producer Orrin Keepnews immediately recognized that there was more than enough material for two top-level records. The dozen chosen performances were subdivided to enable the first album released to feature LaFaro--who died in an auto accident just ten days after recording. Thus this second collection can fairly be said to present a more typical overview of this remarkable unit at work.

Few albums in the history of contemporary American music can be more deserving than this one of the designation Original Jazz Classic. It is the first of two Riverside albums derived from the legendary final appearance of the first Bill Evans trio - taped during the last day of a Village Vanguard engagement, barely ten days before the tragic death of bassist Scott LaFaro. The recordings have long been recognized as capturing the essence of the unique three-way interaction that characterized the trio. This album is further distinguished by its emphasis on the solo work and compositions of the innovative LaFaro.

Wynton Kelly’s recording career started in the late 1940s with Hal Singer, Babs Gonzales and Eddie Vinson. He went on to record with Dinah Washington, Lester Young, Dizzy Gillespie, J.J. Johnson, Billie Holiday, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey and many other stars. Respected by his peers as a pianist of remarkable creativity and feeling, his own stardom was on hold until 1959, when he got a call from Miles Davis and joined one of the most important small bands in jazz. The same year, Kelly recorded Kelly Blue for Riverside. The album’s critical notices and popularity combined with his Davis exposure to bring Kelly general recognition. Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, his section mates from Davis’ group, round out the rhythm section. Nat Adderley, Benny Golson and Bobby Jaspar join for two memorable tracks. Throughout, Kelly cultivates the blues atmosphere that makes the collection one of his finest.

All For You Diana Krall $39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
On this salute to pianist/vocalist extraordinaire Nat King Cole, Diana Krall has a lot to live up to, presenting a group of compositions that are ingrained in the public's memory as part of a lasting legacy of both jazz and pop music. It's to her credit that she went about this intimidating task with a resourcefulness and quiet grace that makes All For You an exceptional tribute. A majority of All For You features Krall in an appropriately unadorned trio setting wonderfully capturing the essence of the Cole trio's arrangements. Krall swings hard with guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Paul Keller on "I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm" and "Hit That Jive Jack," often employing Cole trio devices such as repeated unison figures and on-top-of-the-beat eighth notes on bass. Krall's own sultry, understated singing and crisp, straightforward piano is distinctive enough to cast a fine new light on these classic songs. Here on 180g Double Vinyl!

"When my producer, Tommy LiPuma, and I were deciding on the songs for my newest record, it never occurred to me that the songs we ultimately chose would be all about love. I selected songs that I personally liked, and that had a special meaning for me. However, as is often the case during the creative process, a connection among the songs just seemed to organically appear. The songs are indeed about romance. But to me there is a broader and more personal attachment to each of the songs than the standard definition of romantic love might imply. I think that these songs represent the strength of love, including the love of family and friends. But rather than describing my own thoughts about each song, it is my hope that all of you who listen to the music and read the lyrics will discover and imagine your own personal "love scenes" among the mountains, oceans, rain and gardens of these songs." - Diana Krall

The Look of Love, produced by Verve Music Group Chairman Tommy LiPuma, is a lush, cinematic collection of ten ballads and bossa nova tunes featuring the London Symphony Orchestra arranged and conducted by the legendary Claus Ogerman. Diana Krall's longstanding relationship with Grammy-winning producer LiPuma (Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole) shines through on The Look of Love as he wonderfully showcases Krall's mastery as a vocalist and pianist here. From its smoky rendition of "Cry Me A River," to the heartbreaking tenderness of "I Get Along Without You Very Well," to the Spanish language classic "Besame Mucho," not to mention a sultry rendition of the title track, The Look of Love is the album that Diana Krall dreamt about making and one her fans longed for and have since adored. Although singer Nancy Harrow made a strong impression with her 1960 debut recording, Wild Women Don't Have The Blues, she did not lead another major record date until 1978, which makes this one all the more special. She obviously made the best of her time hear, however, as this set is a near-classic. Harrow is heard in her early prime singing such classic songs as "All Too Soon," "On The Sunny Side Of The Street," the seven-minute "Blues For Yesterday," and the title cut originally done by Ida Cox in the 1920s.

Now It's My Turn Betty Carter $34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Import - Sealed
Arguably the most adventurous female jazz singer of all time, Betty Carter was an idiosyncratic stylist and a restless improviser who pushed the limits of melody and harmony as much as any bebop horn player. The husky-voiced Carter was capable of radical, off-the-cuff re-workings of whatever she sang, abruptly changing tempos and dynamics or rearranging the lyrics into distinctive, off-the-beat rhythmic patterns. Now It's My Turn features Betty recording in the hip trio format that she developed to fantastic heights during the decade and she sings standards and originals here with a warmth an imagination that is unparalleled. Features a sublime version of "Open The Door," plus "New Blues," "I Was Telling Him About You," "Most Gentlemen Don't Like Love" and "Making Dreams Come True."

This classic session is the ultimate in cool jazz. Bill Perkins' mellow tone matches quite well with the quiet but inwardly passionate playing of pianist John Lewis, guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Percy Heath and drummer Chico Hamilton. Lewis is featured with the rhythm section on "I Can't Get Started," Hall is added for "Skylark," and the full group plays three standards plus Lewis' memorable and atmospheric "2 Degrees East, 3 Degrees West."

Sounds Of Synanon Joe Pass $34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Import - Sealed
Sounds of Synanon is a significant recording in that it was Joe Pass' debut and it has an extremely interesting backstory. It was recorded while Pass was still a patient at the Synanon Drug Center in California. Made with fellow patients, Pass proved to be the star. It's interesting to note that Pass played an electric solid-body rock guitar here, as he did not even own a guitar at this time. His legendary chops are especially evident on "Projections" and "Hang Tough," featuring some of his cleanest playing ever recorded. His accompanists prove to be adequate, but hardly approach the genius of Pass. A landmark recording in the history of jazz guitar!

Lee-Way Lee Morgan $33.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl MONO LP - Sealed

An overlooked gem at the time of release, Lee-Way has rocketed in status among jazz aficionados and is now considered one of Morgan’s finest outings. The stalwart quartet of Jackie McLean-alto, Bobby Timmons-piano, Paul Chambers-bass and the mighty Art Blakey on drums join forces with Lee on four elongated arrangements. Each is a tour-de-force in its own right, with everyone given a chance to really stretch out. The Lion And the Wolff is a playful tribute to two of the founding principals of Blue Note, Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff, with the other highlight being what could be, a definitive version of Cal Massey’s classic “These Are Soulful Days”. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Great record – highly recommended!

For Thunderbird, her last Blue Note recording in 2006, vocalist Cassandra Wilson explored the outer reaches of jazz with a multilayered sonic approach piloted by pop producer T Bone Burnett and supported by his A-team of studio musicians including guitarist Marc Ribot and drummer Jim Keltner. This time, Wilson ventures into another fascinating direction with Loverly, a tantalizing, rhythmically driven collection of jazz standards given new luster with a top-drawer band of friends that includes Marvin Sewell on guitar, Jason Moran on piano, Herlin Riley on drums, Lekan Babalola on percussion and Lonnie Plaxico on bass.
“I wanted to work with spare arrangements this time,” says Wilson of Loverly, her first full album of standards since her 1988 JMT album Blue Skies. “And I decided to dig back into standards with a small, compact group of musicians. I don’t record the typical jazz standards a lot, but I love them and that’s how I honed my craft. I studied the standards, listening to how other singers put their swing into them. But it’s hard to do standards. You can’t really sing them until you understand them.”
Loverly tracks include "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most," “Caravan,” “Gone With the Wind,” “Black Orpheus,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “Till There Was You,” “A Sleeping Bee,” “The Very Thought of You” and “St. James Infirmary.” Plus, Wilson and company conjure up a joint original, the grooved “Arere.”

Sounds Unheard Of Shelly Manne & Jack Marshall $24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
In 1962, Contemporary Records set out to create the ultimate stereophonic listening experience. Widely acclaimed for both the sonic quality of its recordings and its classic and adventuresome jazz repertoire, Lester Koenig decided to meld these two elements into an album that would test the mettle of any stereo system, while providing listeners with entertaining and unusual treatments of familiar repertoire. Shelly Manne, who was a mainstay of Contemporary's artist roster, and who was acutely aware of the subtleties of sound recording, was the obvious protagonist for such a project. Shelly's arrangements, in which he plays a vast array of exotic and seldom heard percussion instruments (and other objects) in duet with Jack Marshall's nylon string acoustic guitar, were conceived so as to demonstrate to the fullest the capabilities of Contemporary's renowned recording system.

The place: one of New York’s most celebrated jazz rooms, the Five Spot. The time: summer 1958. The leader is the great Thelonious Monk, at the peak of his abilities as a performer and captured “in action” at the club where he first emerged into the spotlight. The band is one that has been drastically undervalued in history, largely because it was the successor to the legendary quartet that featured John Coltrane. But this group — Johnny Griffin, Roy Haynes, Ahmed Abdul-Malik and their exuberant leader — created two highly memorable in-performance albums (of which this is the first) of classic Monk repertoire.

Jazz Giants Benny Carter $50.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin 45 RPM Vinyl LP - Sealed
Though he moved to Hollywood more than four decades ago, Benny Carter transcends any geographical style; for more than a half century, he has been just what he is called in this album--a giant of every jazz era. Here he displays three of his many talents, principally as an alto saxophonist, but also as a composer on two numbers and a trumpeter on two.
The company he kept, with Ben Webster and Frank Rosolino rounding out the front line, and such fellow giants as Andre Previn, Barney Kessel, Leroy Vinnegar, and Shelly Manne in the rhythm section (Jimmy Rowles replaces Previn on two tracks) left no doubt that this album would be a milestone in straight-ahead, small group, mainstream jazz.

...Again Ella Fitzgerald & Joe Pass $50.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin 45 RPM Vinyl LP - Sealed
The intimate series of duet albums that Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass recorded for Pablo made two things perfectly clear regarding the First Lady of Song: her celebrated musicianship remained exceptional after four decades in the limelight, and her ability to get inside the meaning of a lyric and convey it to an audience had been woefully underestimated. Pass, who gets to display the subtler aspects of his own virtuosity and his overlooked strengths as an accompanist, was the perfect partner for an effort where the relaxed "after hours" feeling intensified the level of communication.

In New York Chet Baker $50.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin 45 RPM Vinyl LP - Sealed
The undeniably erratic early career of Chet Baker involved roller-coaster extremes and musical paradoxes. In the Fifties, his sound and approach were often compared to Miles Davis, although his greatest successes came in a West Coast setting with Gerry Mulligan's cool, piano-less quartet and often emphasized ballads and soft-toned vocals. But this album shows Baker in a unique direct assault in Davis territory, including a couple of tunes associated with Miles; and above all with a driving East Coast supporting cast made up of tough-tenor Johnny Griffin, bebop veteran Al Haig and frequent Davis colleagues Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones.

A musician with a penchant for variety and surprise, Johnny Griffin has provided plenty of both through his long career. This 1961 quartet album found the master tenor saxophonist exploring the possibilities in four familiar folk songs, three original compositions and a standard song, “Hush-a-Bye,” based on a classical piece. To all of them Griffin applied his magisterial tone, vital imagination and ability to extract the greatest meaning from any harmonic structure. His companions in the adventure were Barry Harris, who was virtually the Riverside Records house pianist during this period; Ron Carter, a bassist of steadily increasing importance; and Ben Riley, then working with Sonny Rollins and soon to become Thelonious Monk’s drummer. It is unlikely that any group of Scottish singers ever performed “Green Grow the Rushes” with energy like Griffin’s.

Settin' The Pace John Coltrane $49.99
45 RPM 180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Coltrane does not do the old Dexter Gordon/Leo Parker duet number, “Settin’ the Pace,” in this set. The overall title merely refers to his preeminence in the jazz world at the time the recording was released in the early Sixties. Recorded in 1958, this session comes from a time when Trane had already played in the Miles Davis quintet and the Thelonious Monk quartet and was frequenting Rudy Van Gelder’s New Jersey studio in recording situations backed by the Red Garland Trio. This threesome — Garland, Paul Chambers and Arthur Taylor — was a Prestige entity on its own, but had already released such albums with Coltrane as Traneing In and Soultrane. Settin’ The Pace, with its heady combination of seldom-done pop material and Jackie McLean’s intriguing “Little Melonae,” continued the excellent quartet series at a time when Trane was making jazz history at the head of yet another powerful foursome.

Meet Me In London Antonio Forcione & Sabina Sciubba $29.99
Vinyl LP Import - Sealed
Wonderfully recorded, inspiring, enjoyable music' is how Jazz FM's David Freeman describes this release by guitarist Antonio Forcione and chanteuse Sabina Sciubba. Antonio and Sabina put a fascinating spin on a collection of jazz standards, re-arranged pop classics, and some enchanting new compositions to deliver a disc that provides a rare blend of pure magic and undiluted genius. Forcione's light touch really complements the darker tones of Sciubba's voice. At times the duo is joined by a percussionist or bassist, but mostly it's the satisfying interplay between the two stars that makes this record worth visiting again and again.
'Warm and rich vinyl version of one of Naim's nicest CDs, the jazzy unplugged vocal/guitar stunner from Forcione and Sciubba benefiting from remastering and a change of format. Not that it wasn't involving before. It's just that it lends itself so well to vinyl playback, with more air, fatter percussion and even better detail'

The Best Selling Jazz Album of All-Time Gets the Super Deluxe Treatment for its 50th Anniversary!
Includes the Original Remastered CD, a CD of Bonus Material, a DVD of the Making of Kind of Blue, an Incredible Full-Color Book, Photos from the Sessions, Miles' Notes and the LP of the Original Album Pressed on Blue Vinyl!
In 1958, after a string of critically acclaimed and successful albums, Miles Davis was searching for a new direction to take the music, and signs were pointing him off the chordal highway into a new jazz style: modal. His innovations would open up the world for improvisers. He recruited key players with the potential to solidify his new approach, forming his famed sextet with rising jazz giants John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans & Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. Miles hired the little-known Evans because he needed a pianist who was into the modal thing. Davis and Evans both had developed personal voices characterized by a melodic flow that suggested, rather than defined, musical structure. It was his relationship with Evans that created the spark that resulted in the album Kind of Blue.
In only two impromptu sessions in March and April of 1959, Miles Davis’s sextet created a tour de force — 5 original tunes built on simple scales. Davis is committed to getting something spontaneous out of his musicians. The entire album was composed as a series of modal sketches and was conceived only hours before the recording dates. The outcome? Pure inspiration, and the stuff of legend — an album made up of the first full take of each tune, captured at the historic Columbia 30th Street Studio. The album was originally released on Columbia Records in 1959, stunning the jazz world by practically creating a new language of music. Its influence goes far beyond jazz. Kind of Blue is universally considered to be one of the best albums of all time, of any genre. Fifty years later, Kind of Blue — the epitome of spontaneous invention—is still the best selling jazz album ever.
This Collector’s Edition marks the 50th Anniversary with an unprecedented presentation of music, images, insight and history to celebrate the album that is essential to any music collection, the ideal gift item for any jazz lover, especially fans of Miles Davis … a true collector’s set.

From legendary rock photographer Jim Marshall comes this rare collection of stunning, intimate pictures of jazz musicians.
On his first of many to come for Blue Note and what was also his album debut as a leader, trumpeter Hubbard at the tender age of twenty-two, made both a strong statement and lasting impression with Open Sesame. It’s a stunning debut that finds a very interesting mix of cats joining in on old and new but always invigorating tunes, all. Fellow youngster Tina Brooks lends his tenor and fresh ideas (Hubbard would return the favor the following week by joining Brooks on his now infamous bar-setting True Blue session) to the quintet while fast-rising McCoy Tyner, soon off to become a key component of the classic John Coltrane Quartet, makes a rare Blue Note appearance as a supporting player, on piano. Sam Jones’ bass and Clifford Jarvis’ drumming blend perfectly, especially on Hubbard’s original “Hub’s Nub” and the title tune plus a smokin’ version of “All Or Nothing Or All”. Mastered and cut on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and cutter head makes this the definitive version of this LP and possibly better than impossible to find original copies!

4. All or Nothing at All

Often overlooked due to other tiles also released during Horace Silver’s peak period (1954-1965), Horace-Scope is a solid collection that holds up quite well today. It again features the fine tandem of Junior Cook’s tenor and Blue Mitchell’s trumpet who, by now, found their interplay becoming second-nature, almost telepathic. Other Silver regulars Gene Taylor and Ray Brooks handle bass lines and drum fills, respectively. Arrangements are spot-on, tight in the pocket and surprisingly ultra-soulful in the solo turns. It’s easy to think that the highlight of this album is Silver’s first attempt at his own “Nica’s Dream,” which had been debuted by Art Blakey three years prior, and it just might be. But equally intoxicating are the takes on “Strollin,’” “Without You” and the title tune, all of which Silver and Co. make totally their own. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Great record. Highly recommended!

Pianist Parlan had found a level of relative comfort during 1960-61, recording with the same four musicians on five distinct Blue Note albums under various leaders’ names; three of them, his. With a front-line of the Brothers Turrentine; Tommy on trumpet (who’s lack of any albums under his own name for Blue Note or any other jazz label at the time is curious if not mind boggling) and his younger sibling Stanley on tenor (who eventually help write the book on Blue Note tenors), the band is rounded out with George Tucker’s bass and Al Harewood on drums. With Parlan’s relaxed but subtly swinging style holding it together and Big Stan’s thick tone, peppered with blues and soul inflections, songs such as “Wadin’”, “Oh So Blue” and the title tune sizzle. An interesting inclusion is a quick revisit by Parlan to his future jazz standard “Up In Cynthia’s Room”, which he had debuted on his trio set, Movin’ And Groovin’, just five months prior. . As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Great record – highly recommended!

Byrd In Flight Donald Byrd $29.99
200 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Blue Note was very lucky (and astute) to have their Three Trumpeteers; Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard on the roster at the same time. Other labels were lucky (or dying to) to have one trumpeter of such caliber. Their combined, prolific output of albums, many of which attained classic status, is legendary. One constantly near the top of most lists is Byrd In Flight. Byrd decided to mix it up, with Jackie McLean (alto) on one date and Hank Mobley (tenor) on the second. Duke Pearson’s signature smooth piano work appears across the board as does the reliable drumming of Lex Humphries. Reggie Workman and Doug Watkins split duties on bass. Both sessions resulted in classic be-bop romps, mostly on originals such as Byrd’s Afro-Cuban tinged “Ghana” and “Lex”, a song dedicated to drummer Humphries. Pearson contributes three solids with “Gate City”, “Bo and My Girl Shirl”. The lone standard tackled, “Little Boy Blue” is given an intelligent yet playful injection of the quintet’s personalities. This Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series release was mastered and cut on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system allowing the listener to hear the music as Rudy Van Gelder mixed and intended it to be heard – in PURE MONO with no “faux stereo” artifacts from using a stereo cutter head! As always this release features authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Try and find an original that looks and sounds this good at any price!

Bitches Brew Miles Davis $24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
The mercurial Bitches Brew is thought by many to be one of the most revolutionary albums in jazz history, having virtually created the genre known as jazz-rock fusion. Miles adds to his In A Silent Way concept here with soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, additional drums and percussion, plus African, Indian and Brazilian instruments. The result was unlike any music heard before or since. A complete rejection of traditional songs, chord progressions, or even melodic conventions, the album signified that music could be just layers of texture and sound. Bitches Brew is not just an important recording, it's an essential one!
