Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970
Leonard Cohen

Remastered
Leonard Cohen Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 is a fascinating and timely portrait of the artist as a young man, just three years into his recording career (though he was already a published poet and novelist for 15 years). As he mesmerizes the Isle Of Wight audience, Cohen intersperses a baker's dozen songs with tales both real and apocryphal, as well as a handful of his poems.
This double 180g vinyl LP edition of Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 represents the 77-minute concert set as performed by Cohen and his backup band: Bob Johnston (Cohen's Nashville-based Columbia A&R staff producer), and Nashville musicians Charlie Daniels (electric bass, fiddle), Ron Cornelius (lead guitar), and Elkin 'Bubba' Fowler (bass, banjo). They were joined by backup singers Corlynn Hanney, Susan Musmanno, and Donna Washburn. During the course of their European tour, which Cohen only agreed to undertake if Johnston (producer of Cohen's most recent LP, Songs From A Room) would manage him and organize the band, the group began to call themselves The Army, owing to the battles they were subjected to by audiences on the road.
All but three of the songs on Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 originated on Cohen's first two LPs, his debut Songs Of Leonard Cohen from 1967 (So Long, Marianne, One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong, The Stranger Song, Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye, Suzanne); and Songs From A Room from 1969 (Bird On The Wire, You Know Who I Am, Tonight Will Be Fine, The Partisan, Seems So Long Ago, Nancy). The three other songs Diamonds In The Mine, Sing Another Song Boys, and Famous Blue Raincoat were destined for Cohen's third album, 1971's Songs of Love and Hate.

In A Silent Way is regarded as the first of Miles' fusion albums which was only the highway to deliver one of the Jazz History masterpieces, Bitches Brew. In A Silent Way featured a full-blown electric approach: An album which ís kicking categories of music to the curb and owes much of its essence to rock improvisers like John McLaughlin a newcomer at the time- and to pianists Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock.
'Space Music' some said, but Miles only was just going his way as always. Free jams with hardly any no structure but still so sustained that they speak volumes about the sensitivity of the musicians involved.

Good for Saturday nights as well as Sunday evenings, Maxi Jazz, Rollo and Sister Bliss are the holy trinity at
the centre of the U.K. electronic dance collective Faithless. Catapulted to fame by their 1996 banger
eInsomniaf, the group went on to play almost every stage, club and festival known to man. Twice. Music On
Vinyl is now releasing their second album, Sunday 8PM, on 180 grams audiophile vinyl. On it, Maxi Jazzfs
reverent flow managed to produce eGod Is A DJf, not just a dance anthem, but a hymn of majestic
proportions. The audience at the Dutch festival Pinkpop went so wild to the song that the band decided to
use live footage of the concert in their video, a plea for togetherness devoid of false sentiment and schmaltz.

Import Compilation on vinyl for the first time!
"I was trying to expand the consciousness of humanity," Lonnie Liston Smith said when he wrote 'Expansions'. And boy, did he Most Jazz Funk compilations are a dime a dozen, but when you start with the Space Funk Fusion of Mr. Smith, it's a different story.
The Master Series: Jazz Funk Vol. 1 is a collection that strays beyond the beaten path and takes you to the dance floor of the Future Age that would come to inspire many of the Acid Jazz generation. It includes songs like Idris Muhammad's 'Could Heaven Be Like This', which served as a direct inspiration to Jamiroquai's hit 'Alright'. But it doesn't shy away from vintage Disco, either, with tracks like 'Spring High', composed by Stevie Wonder and performed by Ramsey Lewis or 'Doctor Jackyll And Mister Funk' by Jackie Mclean.
Willie Bobo's rendition of 'Always There' is a definite floor filler, while Herbie Hancock's much sought after Latin-Disco classic 'Saturday Night' makes this a compilation you can't miss, especially since it's the first time this collection has appeared on vinyl!

 Bitches Brew: Live
Miles Davis
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

It has been said that jazz stopped evolving when Davis wasn't there to push it forward.
Even if that isn't true, Miles Davis certainly was one of the greatest music innovators of the 20th century, pioneering Cool Jazz (with the 1949 recording of Birth Of The Cool), Modal Jazz (with 1959's Kind Of Blue) and Fusion with 1970's Bitches Brew.
Bitches Brew Live contains recordings from two performances: the first three songs were recorded at his Newport Jazz performance in July 1969 - a couple of weeks before the Bitches Brew Sessions in August of that year - and have remained unissued till this day.
Miles performs with Chick Corea on electric piano, Dave Holland on acoustic bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums; musicians who all went on to become leaders of the Fusion movement. (Wayne Shorter unfortunately missed this date because he was stuck in traffic.) The A1 track 'Miles Runs The Voodoo Down' is the first professionally live recorded version of this song.
The other six songs were recorded at the Isle Of Wight festival in 1970,and contain 'Directions' and 'It's About That Time' from the In A Silent Way sessions.
Included in this exclusive release is a 12 page booklet with a liner note essay by renowned music journalist Michael Azzerad, and a special etch on the D side.

Close Up Volume 3: States Of Being
Suzanne Vega
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

WHAT a clever songwriter Suzanne Vega is.
Giving herself almost nowhere to hide the Santa Monica-born, New York-raised singer (who turns 52 tomorrow) re-models her own songs, allowing herself only the minimal of backing. States Of Being is a masterpiece, stripping back favourites like Undertow and Solitude Standing, over stately, echoing acoustic guitar so sparse the lyrics are thrown into sharp and moving relief. Fantastic.
HSMART move of Suzanne Vega to revisit her career catalogue in stripped down settings it brings out the best of her songs. Volume 3 consists of what she calls her mental health set, taking in fan favourites such as Undertow, Solitude Standing and Cracking, all of which reflect a state of mind. Added interest comes in the shape of Instant Of The Hour After, a new song based on the Carson McCullers short story Talks About Love and theatre piece of the same name.

Remastered
Along with James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, Sly & the Family Stone virtually invented 1970's funk. Their fusion of R&B rhythms, infectious melodies, and psychedelia created a new pop/soul/rock hybrid. The impact of Sly´s music has proven widespread and long-lasting. For instance, Motown producer Norman Whitfield patterned the label's forays into harder- driving, socially relevant material (such as The Temptations' Runaway Child and Ball of Confusion) based on their sound.
The pioneering precedent of Stone's racial, sexual, and stylistic mix, had a major influence in the 1980's on artists such as Prince and Rick James. Legions of artists from the 1990's forward including Public Enemy, Fatboy Slim, Arrested Devellopment, Beck and many others mined Stone's back catalog for samples.
This 20 track compilation covers all the hits & fan favourites from the 1968-1974 period.
For those not familiar with Sly this 2LP set on 180 grams audiophile vinyl is a great introduction and an invitation to dig deeper into Sly & The Family Stone´s catalogue.

Remastered
London Calling is the 3rd album by English punkrockers The Clash and was released on December 14th 1979. The album represented a change in The Clash's musical style and featured more diverse elements; Ska, pop, soul, rockabilly and reggae influences were more audible than on their previous albums. The cover is clearly a tribute to Elvis Presley's selftitled album sleeve, whereas the album's subject matters vary from unemployment, racial conflict, drug use and the responsibilities of adulthood. Recordings took only a couple of weeks time and most songs were cut in 2 or 3 takes.
The album received unanimously positive reviews and was ranked high in quite some All Time Greatest Albums listings (number 8 on Rolling Stone's list, number 4 on Q Magazine's list). London Calling was a top 10 album in the UK, and its title track was a top 20 single. In 2007, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, for being a collection of recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance.
Exactly 30 years to the day, we're pleased to announce the release of this album in remastered sound and on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.

 We Are Born
Sia

People used to liken Sia to a fairy with broken wings.
If you've heard the delicate and jazzy vocals she provided for Zero 7, or the song 'Breathe Me' from her solo-album Color The Small One that was prominently featured in the Six Foot Under finale, you would immediately understand why.
But with We Are Born, Sia has made a pop-album of the highest standard. With songs like 'Clap Your Hands', it would appear that the masses are starting to notice her as well. On We Are Born Sia is upbeat without being too cotton-candy, her melodies floating along lyrics that are smart and to the point. Her rendition of Madonna's 'O Father' is poignant and might even be superior to the original.
Produced by Greg Kurstin (Lilly Allen, Little Boots) this is an accessible album that is difficult to listen to without a smile.
Track Listing:
1. The Fight

Import Sid Vicious may have become the Punk icon, at least Glen Matlock - original bass player for the Sex Pistols could really play, wrote ten out of the twelve songs on the classic "Never Mind The Bollocks" and he's still alive.

This isn't a Sex Pistols rip-off but a collection of rolling Rockers with a poignant smile similar to Joey Ramone's solo work. Produced by Jim Lowe (of Stereophonics, Foo Fighters, and Manic Street Preachers), whatever Matlock might lack in originality he more than makes up for sincerity.

Screaming Trees
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Screaming Trees is considered to be one of the Godfathers of Grunge. Although they were one of the best 'Seattle-bands' of the early nineties, they never achieved the commercial success of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains.
Founded in 1985, the band had to wait till 1992 for their biggest commercial success, the release of 'Sweet Oblivion'. 'Dust' is their seventh and final album originally released in 1996. In contrast to the group's previous recordings that were more influenced by psychedelic rock and punk, 'Dust' is equally influenced by folk and blues, while still retaining a harder-edged sound. After this album The Screaming Trees disbanded.
Lead singer Mark Lanegan started a very successful solo career, working with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Greg Dulli (Afghan Wigs), Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian) and UNKLE.

The English blues rock band The Yardbirds released their album 'Roger the Engineer' in 1966. It was the only Yardbirds album with all original material. Due to the influence of Jeff Beck's experimentation with guitar distortion, the album is considered a precursor to heavy metal.
Music On Vinyl is now rereleasing this classic album in its original mono version.

 Return Of The Son Of...
Dweezil Zappa
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed

"This collection contains live performances recorded over a 2-year span. The majority of the songs are from our 3 night residency at the Morse Theater in Chicago, October 2008. "The Torture Never Stops" is from Halloween in New York 2008. "Zomby Woof" and "Montana" are culled from our Manchester England concert in the summer of 2009.
It's always a big challenge to capture the true essence of a live performance. Character, conviction, raw energy and musicality don't always conspire in peaceful co-existence with sonic fidelity. On rare occasions you get lucky and all of the aforementioned details are present in a recording. I think we got lucky this time.
I was inspired to create a record that could accurately represent the Zappa Plays Zappa project. As a band we have evolved musically as well as undergone personnel changes. This is a snapshot of an exciting period of performances by the band as it was and as it is currently. I enjoy hearing the contrast within the compositions as well as all of the contrasting improvisational styles of the musicians. The performances have a few rough edges but I don't mind. I didn't want to sit in a studio and surgically fix every minor discrepancy. It would no longer be a live experience. I wanted the human element to be present. There could very well be better over all executions of parts in some of our other recordings but these versions stood out for other reasons. To me, there seems to be a beautiful synergy between the band and the audience on these tracks.
In closing, there is one last thing I would like to share with you about this record. It contains some lengthy guitar solos, love 'em or hate 'em, it's the place where I connect most with my Father's music. Each time I play a solo I try to imbue my own playing with some of my Dad's idiosyncrasies both technically and sonically. At the same time I try to react to the moment and spontaneously compose something melodic and musical. It's not easy to do but I really enjoy the process. I tried to assemble an assortment of songs with solos that best represent the process I just described. Many of them remind me of the 'Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar' era solos, that is why I named the album Return Of The Son Of. I hope you all enjoy listening to this record. We sure had fun playing the concerts." - Dweezil Zappa

 Boces
Mercury Rev
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
From very early on it became clear that Mercury Rev were a different kind of music group.
They created songs the size of canyons with a capacity for chaos that is unparalleled.
Their druggy, epic, sprawling avant-garde noise pop hit the underground in the early nineties and got them kicked off the stage at Lollapalooza while promoting their sophomore album Boces.
With members of The Flaming Lips and influenced by Sonic Youth and The Velvet Underground, Mercury Rev's neo-psychedelic dreampop on Boces comes out best on songs like opener 'Meth Of A Rockette's Kick', while their approach to teeny-bop ends up in a drug infused meth den on 'Something For Joey.'
Internal conflicts and personal disputes led to the departure of vocalist and lead man David Baker shortly after this album, which meant that Mercury Rev became more focused & started orchestrating with strings instead of guitars & fuzz.
This album is a must-have for all who want to explore the origins of one of the most innovative bands in the indie-genre!

Rubbing shoulders with some of the most creative, successful and famous people in the world, this model, actress, singer, composer and Warhol Superstar's CV reads like a who's who of the sixties, seventies, and eighties. After only 2 studio albums, Rory Gallagher released Live! in Europe in 1972. Considered a landmark live album, the record - then containing 7 tracks - became Rory's 1st gold record. Heavily influenced by the likes of Woody Guthrie, Bill Broonzy and Leadbelly, Rory taught himself to play the mandolin, acoustic guitar, harmonica and also mastered the slide. After discovering the electric blues of Muddy Waters he started experimenting with different styles.
After Gallagher's band Taste broke up (he recorded 2 studio & 2 live albums with Taste) Rory toured under his own name and recorded 'Rory Gallagher' and 'Deuce' with his power trio, featuring bassist Gerry McAvoy (whom stayed in his band for 20 years) and drummer Wilgar Campbell.
>p>
Rory Gallagher won his greatest acclaim with his marathon live shows and was voted 'Melody Maker's Top Musician of the Year' in 1972, trumping Eric Clapton. It's his live shows which captured the raw energy of his songs, Rory insisted, and therefore, he released a number of live albums. Live! 'Once' is a 2006 Irish musical film written and directed by John Carney, former bassist for Irish band The Frames. Hansard and Irglová's song 'Falling Slowly' received a 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song and the soundtrack as a whole also received a Grammy nomination.
Steven Spielberg was quoted as saying "A little movie called 'Once' gave me enough inspiration to last the rest of the year". When informed of Spielberg's comments, director John Carney told Sky News, "in the end of the day, he's just a guy with a beard"

By the time this was released in 1994, something unexpected happened. Sade's early work became classic and the later additions boasted even better vocals and songs that nicely improved on the theme. The timeless sound and class always exhibited makes Sade Adu and her band a no-brainer for an appealing compilation. Like Al Green's Greatest Hits, The Best of Sade doesn't detract from the original albums and is a marker of time, not the end of the act. The ice-princess demeanor and detached vocals worked perfectly for the mid-'80s singles and radio samples "Smooth Operator" and "Your Love Is King." The tracks from the make-or-break second album, Promise, seem less dolorous propped up and sequenced for a compilation. The sensual-to-a-fault "The Sweetest Taboo" and "Never As Good As the First Time" both retain their strength here. The songs from Stronger Than Pride -- "Love Is Stronger Than Pride," "Nothing Can Come Between Us," and the great "Paradise" -- all benefit from Ian Cooper's mastering job. This set also includes tracks from Sade's "comeback" CD, Love Deluxe, including "Kiss of Life" and "No Ordinary Love." As a bonus, The Best of Sade also includes a rare cover of "Please Send Me Someone to Love" from the Philadelphia soundtrack.

With a career that has already spanned two decades, The Charlatans - Martin Blunt (bass), Jon Brookes (drums), Tim Burgess (vocals), Mark Collins (guitar) and Tony Rogers (keyboards) - release their new album 'Who We Touch', on September 6th 2010.
Their eleventh studio album, 'Who We Touch' was produced by Youth (Paul McCartney, Primal Scream and The Verve) and was recorded at Britannia Row in London, on the desk that New Order's 'Blue Monday' was recorded on. Featuring twelve tracks, the album must surely rank as their boldest to date radically broadening, in places, their aesthetic remit. It is, says Burgess, "a soulful voyage", a journey through moods uplifting and profound, dark and delirious, ultimately concluding in blissful optimism. Its sound is inspired by many heroes, yet always sounds like no-one other than The Charlatans themselves.

Dave Swarbrick
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Dave Swarbrick and Simon Nicol are hugely important figures in the history of British Folk Rock and Folk music since the 1960's. They were both key figures in British Folk Rock super group Fairport Convention and appeared on their seminal album Liege and Lief (1969) which initiated the electric folk movement. In fact BBC radio 2 listeners have voted Liege and Leaf the 'Most influential folk album of all time'.
Dave Swarbrick has been described the most influential British fiddle player bar none. After 1970 he emerged as Fairport Convention's leading figure and guided the band through a series of important albums until its disbandment in 1979. Simon Nicol was a founder member of Fairport Convention and is the only founding member still in the band... In 1973 he played on what is often considered one of the important folk/jazz albums of all time, John Martyn's Solid Air.
After Fairport Convention called it a day in 1979, Dave Swarbrick and Simon Nicol joined forces and spent the early eighties playing folk clubs throughout the UK as an acoustic duo. Their repertoire was drawn from various sources - including Fairport Convention material, Dave Swarbrick's late seventies/early eighties solo albums and also several tracks that were individual to the duo. The acoustic duo proved popular and recorded three albums. Two of those, the 1981 live album 'Live at the White Bear', and the 1984 studio effort 'Close to the Wind', were re-issued a few years back on Fairport Convention's own Woodworm Records label.

Al Green was one of the biggest artists on prolific producer Willie Mitchell's Hi Records label. In fact, his commercial and creative success was in many ways a guiding light to all the other artists on the label, which included Ann Peebles & Otis Clay.

The Hi Singles As and Bs
Ann Peebles
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed
|
Al Green was the only artist who could outshine Ann Peebles' star on legendary producer Willie Mitchell's record label Hi Records. Peebles' raw, Southern Soul touched a nerve by opposing the sugar sweet female mold that many other Soul icons had been forced into. Instead, Ann and her husband David Bryant wrote hits such as 'I Can't Stand The Rain', 'I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down' and 'Breaking Up Someone's Home'.
Peebles' authentic and raw sound, which defined the Memphis Soul movement, was unfortunately drowned out by the Disco movement of the '70s and the sale of Hi Records in '77, but luckily the soul revival of latter years meant that there was a reason to dig up all her singles and compile them on The Hi Singles A's and B's.
The Hi Singles gives a chronological overview of all her singles from 1969 to 1981, and therefore this release gives one of the most comprehensive overviews of her career.
Available on vinyl for the first time since its release in 2002!

 Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-Nerd
Lynyrd Skynyrd
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Perhaps people needed help pronouncing Lynyrd Skynyrd's name when the Florida band's debut album came out in 1973, but soon no one would need help recognizing - or requesting - the album's classic rock anthem "Free Bird." With the exception of this nine-minute epic, Pronounced is actually quite lean and mean. Full of instantly recognizable Skynyrd standards like "I Ain't the One," "Gimme Three Steps," "Poison Whiskey," "Simple Man," and the ultimate rock ballad "Tuesday's Gone," there isn't a single weak spot on it. By blending hard rock, blues, country, and the heart of the South with the distinctly sentimental voice and intelligent lyrics of Ronnie Van Zant, Lynyrd Skynyrd didn't just create an anthem with this album, they defined a genre. They also won themselves an opening slot on the Who's US Quadrophenia tour. Fun Fact: Leonard Skinnerd was a physical-education teacher at the band members' high school that busted their chops for having long hair.
Track Listing:
1. I Ain't the One
2. Tuesday's Gone
3. Gimme Three Steps
4. Simple Man
5. Things Goin' On

 Lullabies To Paralyze
Queens of the Stone Age
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
In 2005 Josh Homme, eleven multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes and band members Van Leeuwen and Castillo recorded the Queens' fourth studio album 'Lullabies to Paralyze'. On this record Homme's voice blends into the band's sound as all the instruments bleed together as one, creating a hypnotic force that finds endless, fascinating variations of a seemingly simple sound. The result: an addictive album that begs listeners to get lost in its ever-shifting moods and slyly sinister sensuality. The record features the appearance of several guests, most notably ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and of course the sensational Mark Lanegan. The record debuted at number 5 in the Billboard Music Chart, the greatest initial success of any Queens Of The Stone Age record to date.

Shipping in 1-2 days
Nazareth's second 74 album Rampant finds the group tempering the four-on-the-floor hard rock attack they developed on Loud and Proud by working a surprising and effective Southern rock edge into the songs. The end result is an album that sounds like a early AC/DC meets Lynyrd Skynyrd at their hardest rocking. Some of the country-tinged highlights include Glad When You're Gone a funny kiss-off to an unwanted lover that airs hillbilly-styled singing with wah-wah-drenched guitar riffs, and Jet Lag a tongue-in-cheek look at life as a touring rock & roller that is driven by some. However, the finest song in this vein is the powerful opener Silver Dollar Forger, which feels like the theme song to the great 1970s car chase movie that never was.
This gatefold sleeved edition of the album contains the B-side to the Love Hurts 7 single as a bonus. Rock on!
Track Listing:
1. Silver Dollar Forger

 Different Class
Pulp
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

When two dogs (in this case, Blur and Oasis) fight over a bone, sometimes an unknown third can take the slot of Stone Roses no-shows at the Glastonbury festival and run away with the title of Best Britpop Band of 1995.
Such was the case with Pulp, even if charismatic frontman Jarvis Cocker never liked the moniker. Pulp came, saw, and recorded one of the best albums of the genre with 1995's Different Class.
The inspiration for the title came from a friend of Cocker who used the phrase "different class" to describe something that was "in a class of its own". Cocker liked the double meaning, with its allusions to the British social class system a theme of some of the songs on the album.
A message on the back of the record also references this idea: "We don't want no trouble, we just want the right to be different. That's all."
Two of the singles on the album "Common People" (number 2 in the UK singles chart) and "Disco 2000" (number 7) were especially notable, and helped propel Pulp to nationwide fame. Eventually "Different Class" was the winner of the 1996 Mercury Music Prize. In 1998 Q readers voted Different Class the 37th greatest album of all time.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed
|
In 2006 Columbia/Legacy released a number of recordings that had been found amongst Johnny Cash's most private and valuable possessions. They dubbed the album 'The Personal Files', after what Cash had written on the cardboard boxes that had kept these recordings safe over the years.
Now a second volume has been added to this Bootleg Series; From Memphis To Hollywood. For this volume producer Greg Geller focuses on Cash's early Sun years (1954 to 1957) and his Columbia years from 1958 to 1969. This collection puts Cash's music in a historical perspective: Side A is a 15-minute recording of a live radio broadcast for KWEM on May 21, 1955, the same month Cash recorded his Sun hit 'Cry, Cry, Cry.'
The B-side is filled with 12 early pre-Sun demos, 11 of which are previously unreleased. The C-side contains 7 outtakes produced by Sam Phillips and Jack Clement, as well as 2 final demos.
The rest of the compilation comprises a fresh collection of non-album singles and B-sides from Cash's first 11 years at Columbia, and concludes with 'Come Along And Ride This Train', theme song of The Johnny Cash Show on ABC.
This 3LP-set is accompanied by a 24-page booklet with artwork & liner notes by Ashley Kahn. This collection will be released on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

 I Robot
Alan Parsons Project
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The British progressive rock band Alan Parsons Project was active between 1975 and 1990.
The Project consisted of Eric Woolfson and Alan Parsons surrounded by a varying number of session musicians.
Englishman Alan Parsons met Scotsman Eric Woolfson in the canteen of Abbey Road Studios in the summer of 1974.
Parsons had already acted as assistant engineer on The Beatles' 'Abbey Road' and 'Let It Be' and had recently engineered Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side of the Moon'. Woolfson, a songwriter and composer, was working as a session pianist.
'I Robot' is their second album and was originally recorded in 1977. It was intended to be based on the 'I, Robot' stories written by Isaac Asimov, who was enthusiastic about the idea. However, as the rights already had been granted to a TV/movie company, the album's title was altered slightly by removing the comma, and the theme and lyrics were made to be more generically about robots rather than specific to the Asimov universe.
Musically this album has strong influences from soul, funk and disco music, mixed with some influences from early electro and synth-pop music.
Track Listing:
1. I Robot
2. I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You

 Mirror Man Sessions
Captain Beefheart
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
When Captain Beefheart went into the studio in late 1967 to record the follow-up to their debut album 'Safe as Milk', which had been released earlier that year, it was with the intention of producing a double album.
Three of the tracks they recorded were long, psychedelic blues jams. These were intended to fill one of the set's two LPs.
This concept, however, was at some point abandoned, and many of the tracks from the sessions were left unfinished and without any vocals.
A number of the abandoned tracks were re-recorded in 1968, and released as 'Strictly Personal'.
The original session tapes, however, remained the property of Buddha Records, who released them under the title 'Mirror Man' in 1971.
In 1999, Buddha Records issued an expanded version of the album entitled 'The Mirror Man Sessions', which features five additional tracks taken from the abandoned tapes.
Music On Vinyl is proud to pay homage to the late Don Van Vliet by re-releasing these Mirrorman Sessions as a double album on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.

The Clash (US Version + 7")
The Clash
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP + Bonus 7" - Sealed
|
The Clash's eponymous debut album was pure, unadulterated rage and fury, fueled by passion for both rock 'n roll and revolution.
The charging, relentless rhythms, and the primitive threechord rockers, give the album a nervy, vital energy. Rebels with a cause, The Clash were already experimenting with reggae, most notably on the Junior Murvin cover 'Police & Thieves' and the extraordinary '(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais'.
Few punk songs express anger quite as bracingly as 'White Riot','I'm So Bored With the U.S.A' and 'London's Burning'.
Rock & Roll is rarely as edgy, invigorating, and sonically revolutionary as The Clash. This debut has remained a classic to this day.
This Music On Vinyl 180 gram audiophile edition also includes a special 7" disc with the songs 'Gates Of The West' and 'Groovy Times', these 2 tracks were originally released on the EP The Cost Of Living.

Deep Purple: pioneers of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.
Legends of Rawk.
The legendary band's 15th studio album was the first one they recorded with new guitarist Steve Morse, who pulled the band up to new heights and made this the most experimental Deep Purple album to date.
There was more focus on the guitar, they used pinch harmonies, they sounded like they were having fun again; most famously so in 'Vavoom: Ted The Mechanic' based on a true story Ian Gillan once heard in a pub.
The excellent riffs and awe-inspiring solos appear on two 180 grams audiophile vinyl LPs, alongside the exclusive and elusive bonus track 'Don't Hold Your Breath.'

 Before The Flood
Bob Dylan
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
In early 1974 The Band joined Bob Dylan on a 40-date, 21-cities tour across America to record a live album that would be released on David Geffen's label Asylum. The tour was legendary in itself, as it was Dylan's first in seven years and it meant a much-needed comeback for both Dylan and The Band.
Though the audiences were drenched in nostalgia and demanded old hits on the set-list, Dylan and The Band rearranged them in such a way that they were re-invigorated, re- energized and fresh.
They rocked like they never had before.
The line "Even the President of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked," from 'It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)' took on a new meaning altogether thanks to the Watergate scandal early in the year, as did "How does it feel?" from 'Like A Rolling Stone'; where before it had been a sentence of banishment it became a declaration of a new-found independence that was worn as a badge of honor, not a scarlet letter.
The recordings of Before The Flood, made mostly in New York and Los Angeles, were released in June 1974, and would peak at #3 in the Billboard 200, and are now available on vinyl for the first time in 25 years!

Bob Dylan In Concert Brandeis University 1963
Bob Dylan

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The original tape of this concert was discovered recently in the archives of the noted music writer and Rolling Stone co-founder Ralph J. Gleason, where it sat on a shelf for more than forty years. The recording of the Dylan show at Brandeis University in 1963 captures the rollicking wit, deadpan delivery and driving intensity of the young artist's on-stage persona in an assortment of end-of-the-world songs. They are performed in front of an appreciative audience two weeks prior to the release of 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan'.
'Bob Dylan In Concert Brandeis University 1963' is being reissued in response to overwhelming popular demand for a wide release. As noted Bob Dylan scholar Michael Gray puts it in the liner notes of this album: 'This is the last live performance we have of Bob Dylan before he becomes a star'

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 3 LPs Sealed

In November 1977, after completing a 6 month world tour, Rory Gallagher and his band flew straight from their last show in Japan to San Francisco to begin working on a new album.
The sessions grew tense however, as Gallagher wasn't happy with the mixing process, describing them as 'too complicated', and by the end of January 1978 he shelved the whole record and broke up his band of the past 5 years.
Rory said in 1992 he hoped the album would surface one day but only if it were remixed.
This has recently been done by Daniel Gallagher, Rory's nephew.
Apart from the studio album, this release comes with another fabulous discovery, a blistering live album taken from four nights at The Old Waldorf, San Francisco December 1979.

Golden Earring have been together since 1961 and the current line-up includes two founding members George Kooymans (vocals and guitar) and Rinus Gerritsen (bass, keyboard) along with Barry Hay (vocals, guitar, flute and saxophone) a member since 1968 and Cesar Zuiderwijk (drums) a member since 1970.
They have had over 40 hits and 30 albums, many achieving either gold or platinum status in their home country, The Netherlands.
They are best known for their 1973 hit single 'Radar Love' and their 1982 single 'Twilight Zone'.
Around 1992, the unplugged sessions on MTV were a trend; almost every rock band or artist was doing them.
Bass player Rinus Gerritsen suggested to record an acoustic album themselves. The record company wasn't very enthusiastic at first so with a small budget the band recorded the album live in an intimate cafe in Amsterdam. "The Naked Truth" turned out to be the Golden Earring's bestselling album.

 Death Wish
Herbie Hancock
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Herbie Hancock is one of the most prolific jazz pianists of the 20th century.
A child prodigy, he played with the greats such as Donald Byrd and Miles Davis.
As he was a bit of a geek, he enjoyed gadgets & buttons and he was one of the first to embrace and master the electric piano, but he always stayed true to the acoustic sound.
In fact, he always bounced back and forth between his electronic and acoustic sound, touching upon almost every development in R&B, Funk and Jazz while retaining an original and distinctive voice.
Death Wish from 1974 followed closely upon the success of Headhunters, and was the soundtrack to the infamous Charles Bronson-starring vengeance vehicle that preyed upon urban paranoia.
The understated orchestrations mirror the quiet, desperate brooding of the Bronson's character; rarely had a leading role contained fewer words or more violence.

'Axis: Bold as Love', the second Experience album, was released merely 6 months after their debut lp, at the end of 1967. Many of the album's songs were composed with complex studio recording techniques in mind and as a result were rarely performed live.
Only 'Spanish Castle Magic' and every-guitar-player's-ultimate-study-material 'Little Wing' became staples during concerts.
Artists who covered songs off this album range from Brian May, John Mayer, Joan Osborne, The Pretenders unto the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble.

 The Deep End Volume 2
Gov't Mule
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
After the death of Gov't Mule's founding member, Allen Woody, it was the intention to record one record as a tribute to Woody. But as the sessions proceeded, the list of bassplayers Woody admired became longer and longer leaving the remaining members Warren Haynes and Matt Abts no choice then to split the project in two releases.
In September Music On Vinyl released 'The Deep End Vol. 1' as a double LP and now we complete the set with Volume 2.
Haynes and Abts teamed up with Phil Lesh (The Grateful Dead), Les Claypool (Primus), Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica) and Billy Cox (Band Of Gypsies) resulting in, again, a double LP with genres varying from funk to heavy metal and psychedelic rock to punky weirdness.
Despite these variations of genres the music manages to sound like Gov't Mule and it elevates 'The Deep End Vol. 2' to a coherent record.

 Band Of Gypsys
Jimi Hendrix
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

The Jimi Hendrix Experience disbanded after 3 albums, but Jimi quickly formed a new band with bassist Billy Cox and his drummer friend Buddy Miles; the Band of Gypsys. Musically the Band of Gypsys leaned more towards Jimi's funk/R&B roots than the psychedelic rock sound of the Experience.
The Band of Gypsys made their live debut at the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve, 1969, for a series of four shows spread over two nights. A compilation of these shows saw the light as the eponymous live album 'Band of Gypsys'. Containing definitive versions of "Machine Gun" and "Who Knows"!

Track Listing:
1. Who Knows

 Hendrix In The West
Jimi Hendrix
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Very often, at the beginning of a show, Jimi Hendrix would ask his audience to "forget about what happened yesterday or today and start their own world right here."
For this special new edition of the 1971 live-album Music On Vinyl asks you to do the same.
In The West consists of live recordings from the two incarnations of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, including his legendary Isle Of Wight Festival performance in 1970, where he created a live medley of 'God Save The Queen' and 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' with a stunned Paul McCartney in the audience.
To Jimi, concerts were snapshots of where the band was at that moment in time, and Electric Ladyland director of engineering Eddie Kramer (and producer of most of Jimi's posthumous live albums) must have realized that this was when The Experience was at its peak.
In The West was the first live album to be released after Jimi's untimely death.
Forty years later, Music On Vinyl is re-releasing it with a number of beautiful extra's: three bonus tracks that have never been released before, along with a booklet of unpublished photographs by Jim Marshall, who was also responsible for the iconic cover artwork.

5. I Dont Live Today

 Lady In Satin
Billie Holiday
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Billie Holiday is undeniably one of the most influential singers of the twentieth century. As the first vocalist to cite instruments and especially the horns of Louis Armstrong and Lester Young as her main inspiration, she was one of the most relentlessly individual singers of the jazz age, transforming silly Tin Pan Alley songs into jazz standards. But her biography also reads as one of the saddest tales of the modern age. Her talents came at a cost; the price seemed to be a predilection for bad men and an addiction to drugs.
Lady In Satin is the last major recording of Billie Holiday that was released during her lifetime, and it is also the most controversial. Ray Ellis' seem like a harsh contrast to Holiday's broken and fragile voice. Ellis himself was, at first, disappointed by the quality of the recording. It was only after listening more closely that he realized the beauty of these sessions and understood why Billie ranked this album as her favorite. More than any of her other recordings, Lady In Satin calls for an emotional rather than a musical listening.
Track Listing:
1. I'm A Fool To Want You
2. For Heaven's Sake
3. You Don't Know What Love Is
4. I Get Along Without You Very Well
5. For All We Know

Red Colored Vinyl Record
Japan, whose members were David Sylvian, guitarist Rob Dean, keyboardist Richard Barbieri, bassist Mick Karn and Sylvian's brother Steve Jansen as a drummer, began as a group of friends, who all studied at the same school and became an alternative glam rock outfit in the mould of David Bowie, T.Rex, and The New York Dolls.
In 1977, the German label Hansa held a contest that elicited entries from over 1000 bands.
The eight winners, including Japan (and an unknown group called the Easy Cure who later became the Cure) received recording contracts and, a year later their debut 'Adolescent Sex' hit the shops.
'Quiet Life' is Japan's third album, originally released in 1980. Musically, the album was a huge change of style for the band since it stepped away from their earlier alternative Glamrock and into New Wave.

Manic Street Preachers originally gained a loyal following and cult status with their combination of androgynous glam punk imagery, outspoken invective and songs about culture, alienation, boredom and despair.
The band's later albums retained a leftist politicization and intellectual lyrical style, while adopting a broader alternative rock sound, especially after the mysterious disappearance of lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards in 1995.
'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours' is their fifth album, originally released in 1998.
It features the singles 'The Everlasting', 'You Stole the Sun from My Heart', 'Tsunami' and 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next'.
The latter was their first single to debut at #1 on the UK Singles Chart.
On top of this, the album won Best British Album at the 1999 Brit Awards.

 The Snow Goose
Camel

One of Camel's bandmembers suggested doing an entire album based on a book. A number of books were eligible but the emotional appeal to 'The Snow Goose'by Paul Gallico was so strong they started writing and recording a concept album that would portray their vision of the story.
The result, the instrumental The Snow Goose, turned out to be their breakthrough. This masterpiece climbed to the Top-30 of the British charts, it earned Melody Maker's "Brightest Hope" award and firmly established the band with a strong and loyal fanbase.
The novel is a complex story which Camel translates into their improvisational pieces without singing one word.
These surging and intricate soundscapes interpret the emotion of the piece on an accessible level and make the album an all-encompassing experience of the Camel-sound!

J.J. Cale never recorded a full album until Eric Clapton scored a huge hit with Cale's 'After Midnight'. Encouraged by friend and producer Audie Ashworth, J.J. Cale recorded Naturally to capitalize on the success of his song.
He released his debut album in 1972, not knowing this would be the beginning of the so-called Tulsa-sound. A lazy, rolling Boogie that contradicted all the commercial styles of Boogie, Blues, and Country-Rock that was popular at the time. This new sound became the blueprint for the adult-oriented Roots Rock of Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler, among others.
Naturally contains a new version of 'After Midnight' recorded by J.J. Cale as well as the hits 'Crazy Mama' and 'Call Me The Breeze', which was later covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Over the years J.J. Cale has written several hits for other musicians and recorded more than fifteen albums which makes him one of the most successful and lasting singer- songwriters of his generation.

 Songs Of Love And Hate
Leonard Cohen
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Though Leonard Cohen had already established himself as the doyen of doom with his first two albums, his third ´Songs of Love and Hate´ finds him kicking off the 1970s with the sharpest rendition of the '60s peace-and-love/flower-power ethic the world had yet seen from the sensitive troubadour corner of the music map. Though it's not really a concept album ´Songs of Love and Hate´ feels like a guided tour through one man's scarred love life.
The emotional degradation of Avalanche, the suicidal frenzy of Dress Rehearsal Rag and the bitter regret of Last Year's Man all sound like stops on the same ill-fated journey.
Possibly Cohen's finest album, Love and Hate would stand as a monument to explorers of the musical Dark Side for decades to come.

 Berlin
Lou Reed
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Nowadays acclaimed as Lou Reed's best solo album, 'Berlin' is the follow up to Reed's 'Transformer'.
A tragic rock opera about a drug addicted couple, heavy orchestrated and musically far away from the glam-rock of 'Transformer' and closer to the art-rock of the Velvet Underground (there are 2 tracks here played live by Velvet Underground in 1966, and Caroline Says is of course a redo of Stephanie Says from Velvet Underground's self- titled album).
The album got poor reviews when released in July 1973. Nevertheless, like good wines, 'Berlin' has aged and proved an inspiration for many bands.
Lou Reed got so disillusioned by the harsh critics, he did not include songs form 'Berlin' (recorded in London w/Bob Ezrin) in his live set for years.
In 2007 Lou Reed fulfilled his hopes and toured 'Berlin' with a 30-piece band; this tour was filmed and released on dvd in 2008 (which got rave reviews...).
Musicians on LP: Lou Reed (vocals & acoustic guitar), Bob Ezrin, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Jack Bruce, Ansley Dunbar, Tony Levin, Steve Winwood, Steve Hunter, Dick Wagner a.o.

 Speakerboxx/The Love Below
Outkast
$44.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 4 LPs Sealed

In the beginning there was Outkast, the prolific Hip Hop duo hailing from Atlanta, who made music sound like Soul Food; fatty, funky, fresh. Then, in 2003, Big Boi and André 3000 released solo-albums under their shared moniker and named it Speakerboxxx / The Love Below, and saw that it was good.
And so did we.
Both albums display the playful experimentation of their two very distinct styles and yet it is still undoubtedly an Outkast album. Big Boi takes us into a darker, 808-fueled world of true Hip Hop on Speakerboxxx, while Andre 3000's eccentricity is given free rein on The Love Below, with pit stops at crooner-Jazz, Soul and Funk.
Together we stand, divided we fall, but Outkast's Speakerboxxx / The Love Below proves that sometimes, one plus one can make a gazillion.

Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band from The Hague that was at their peak in the sixties en seventies and gained major cross-Atlantic success!
The band was founded in 1967 and after recruiting vocalist Mariska Veres they soon became huge. With their single 'Venus' they became the first Dutch band ever to reach the first spot on the American Billboard Hot 100. The band had a series of subsequent hits but decided to call it a day in 1975. Their influence reached well beyond their generation: even bands like Nirvana and The Prodigy used Shocking Blue's 'Love Buzz'.
Although considered a singles-band, they released a couple of high quality albums. One of the best is Scorpio's Dance in many ways: Its cover has been chosen as one of the most legendary LP covers in Dutch pop history.

In the summer of 1971, they recorded the album "Seven Tears" in Hilversum. They started to experiment, ended up on a psychedelic trip and used the now legendary ARP synthesizer for the first time. The album's highlight is 'She Flies on Strange Wings' an art rock epic that combines verses done in a stomping, heavy metal style with spacy choruses and a slow, dreamy midsection that is strongly reminiscent of Pink Floyd.
"Seven Tears" will be available again after being out-of-print for a long time.

 Leonard Cohen Greatest Hits
Leonard Cohen

'No-one ever listens to me anyway, I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record', Neil once said during an episode of the notorious 'Young Ones'. This has changed dramatically. Cohen's 'Hallelujah' has reached the charts several times performed by various vocalists. Massive sold out concerts and well-known artists like Lou Reed, Bono, Nick Cave, Antony and Rufus Wainwright paying homage resulted in a huge re-appreciation which led to a whole new generation getting in touch with Cohen's impressive repertoire. This album is the perfect anthology of this legend's career.

Untitled is the 9th album by The Byrds, released in September of 1970. Originally a double album, with the first LP featuring live recordings from two early 1970 performances in New York City and the second LP consisting of new studio recordings. The album contained the first official release of any live recordings by the band. The album peaked at #40 on the Billboard Top LP Chart and reached #11 on the UK Albums Chart. At the time of release, Untitled was met with positive reviews and strong sales, with many critics and fans regarding the album as a return to form for the band. Likewise, the album is generally regarded as being the best that the latter-day line-up of The Byrds produced. In 2000 Untitled was remastered and reissued (as a 2CD) in an expanded form with the new title Untitled/Unissued. This expanded version of the album contained an entire bonus disc of previously unreleased live and studio material. Music on Vinyl presents the complete 31-track Untitled/Unissued as a 3LP set.

In 1996 Alice In Chains performed their first show in three years for MTV Unplugged. Unfortunately, it also turned out to be one of the last ones they would ever do, as lead singer Layne Staley's drug addiction was already getting the better of him. Visibly frail, he and band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney still out-performed many of the other acts that crept in front of MTV's camera, making this one of the most legendary performances of the series. The band perform songs from both Facelift and Dirt albums as well as their critically acclaimed E.P. Jar Of Flies, creating new and exciting arrangements for their heavier songs while reinventing others. The tension and excitement in the audience is palpable throughout the entire show, and it makes this a fantastic record of the greatness of Alice In Chains.

'Wired' is Jeff Beck's 1976 solo album. It was this album that started a fruitful collaboration with former Mahavishnu Orchestra keyboardist Jan Hammer whom Beck toured with shortly thereafter. Beck and Hammer interplay extensively between each other by making his synthesizer sound almost identical to a guitar. The result was a more "synthesized" sound, hence its title, 'Wired'. Some tracks include members of the 'Blow by Blow' lineup. These tracks were recorded during the 'Blow by Blow' sessions but were left off that album and carried over to 'Wired. One of the most highly praised tracks is Beck's interpretation of the Charles Mingus classic 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat'.

Remastered
50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong (Elvis' Gold Records Volume 2) was originally released back in 1959. In the two years that Elvis had by then spent in the army, the world of Rock'n'Roll had changed dramatically; Buddy Holly and Richie Valens had died in a plane crash, Little Richard had quit, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry had fallen from grace and Jimi Hendrix bought his first electric guitar. This album was meant as a pacifier for Elvis' fans in the two year hiatus he would be unable to record any new songs. It worked; after Elvis' return he was more popular than ever, which proved that all his fans had, indeed, been right all along.
This release also contains a number of songs Elvis recorded for his Christmas album and a number of in-demand movie songs, totaling ten extra songs on this Music On Vinyl 180 grams audiophile vinyl!

Saviors of Hammond Jazz Sven Hammond Soul are releasing their critically acclaimed The Marmalade Sessions on 180 grams audiophile vinyl! Funky fresh, this music was made for the dance floor. Sven Figees’s hammond moans, sweats, sobs and wails over Joost Kroon’s (New Cool Collective) mean drumming, while Glenn Gaddum’s unwavering bass confidently pins it all to a steady Jazz groove. Contributions by vocalists Sherry Dyanne and Corrina Grayson add that special Soul flavor, while Benjamin Herman on sax adds his own distinctive tone to Benny’s Blues. This is an album that makes you want to get up, clear your living room floor in one fell swoop and get down and boogie! This vinyl edition includes 4 specially recorded previously unreleased tracks, amongst which Caro Emerald’s A Night Like This takes cheekiness to a new level without becoming cheesy. Other newly recorded songs are Sventastic, Mister Cool and Doin’ The WahWah, three irrefutable examples of Sven Hammond Soul’s musical brilliance.

"Neon Ballroom" is the third studio album by Australian post-grunge band Silverchair and was released in 1999. On this album the band is considered to have reached their maturity, both literally as musically. When Silverchair released their first album the bandmembers were but 14 years old. By the time they recorded "Neon Ballroom" they reached the age of 20.
Musically it leaps and bounds beyond the Australian trio's two previous efforts 'Frogstomp' and 'Freakshow'. The group's songwriter, Daniel Johns had been battling personal demons as he attempted to adjust to Silverchair's sudden success and he poured these experiences into his new batch of songs. Determined to shake the constant musical comparisons that had previously dogged his band, Johns created a truly original sounding album. Fusing heavy rock with orchestral flourishes and synthetic touches with powerfully emotional lyrics, the dark and haunting 'Neon Ballroom' was universally acclaimed as a huge creative leap for Johns and his bandmates.
"Neon Ballroom" will be available again after being out-of-print for a long time. The album will come with a gatefold sleeve.

"Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars" is Fatboy Slim's third album, and it is also this prolific dance producer's third release on Music On Vinyl. Here, Norman Cook continues the work he started on "Better Living Through Chemistry" and "You've Come A Long Way, Baby" , bringing in collaborators Macy Gray, Bootsy Collins and Roger Sanchez, yet he steps away from the capricious commercial world of the pop charts in favor of the steady beat of the dance floor.
This album contains floor fillers such as Sunset (Bird Of Prey) (vocals by the late Jim Morrison), 'Star 69', a heavy four-to-the-floor acid-techno rampage (which was funnily enough removed entirely from the 'clean' version of the album), and the Big-Beat oriented 'Ya Mama', 'Weapon Of Choice' and 'Mad Flava'. Soulful Gospel track 'Demons' with Macy Gray on vocals is the true highlight of the album; it feels like sunrise on a beach the morning after a Dazed And Confused-like life-changing-all-summer-in-one-night-experiences.
"Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars" calls for closer listening than previous albums, but it will still make you dance around your house like Christopher Walken.

“Santana III” is an album of lasts. It was the last album recorded with the original Woodstock]line up and the last to hit #1 in the Billboard charts until 1999’s “Supernatural”. But there are also a number of important firsts on this album; Coke Escovedo joins in for the first time on percussion, as does Neal Schon (Journey) – a mere seventeen when they recorded the album – on guitar. Santana III is seen by many as the band’s commercial and creative highpoint. The band sounds darker, more raw, and more eager with the doubling up on guitar of Schon’s rock´n´roll sensibilities and Santana’s ecstatic high notes and soulful fills. Escovedo’s and Chepito’s percussion is as fast as it is furious, and the minimal production adds greatly to the timeless appeal of this album.

Where some artists write from the head and others from the heart, Whigs' songwriter/frontman Greg Dulli writes from the groin. His lyrics are filled with dark images of romantic obsession. Perhaps no other band can play with such restraint, letting musical tension build until it can do nothing other than explode. Dulli in his finest voice can move from desperate screams to a quiet sinister crooning at the turn of a chord. The band split up in 2001. Greg Dulli continued recording and performing as part of the Gutter Twins (with Mark Lanegan) and The Twilight Singers.
1965 is the name of their sixth and final album originally released in 1998. Its cover photograph shows astronaut Ed White on the first American space walk as part of the Gemini 4 flight which took place in, you guessed it, 1965.

 Know Your Enemy

Manic Street Preachers originally gained a loyal following and cult status with their combination of androgynous glam punk imagery, outspoken invective and songs about culture, alienation, boredom and despair. The band's later albums retained a leftist politicization and intellectual lyrical style, while adopting a broader alternative rock sound, especially after the mysterious disappearance of lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards in 1995.
´Know Your Enemy´ was released in 2001 and is the band's most varied in style, with its songs ranging from energetic lo-fi rock songs reminiscent of their earlier material to highly produced, more melodic pop songs, like singles 'So Why So Sad' and 'Ocean Spray´ as well as a disco song. A couple of songs of this record were premiered during their performance at the Karl Marx Theatre in Cuba where even Fidel Castro attended the show. Playing there made them the first Western band ever to play Cuba.

Groove Armada, best known from hits such as 'I See You Baby' and 'Superstylin', decided to show their darker side with the 2010 release Dark Light.
After gigging and touring the festival circuit to promote the album, they had reworked it to such a degree through their live sets that they decided to dive back into the studio, re-record the album and dub it White Light.
The result is not only a less heavy album, but also an album packed full of songs that would work even better on the dancefloors.
Groove Armada have kept the nods to the '80s Hi-NRG pop of Human League, Soft Cell & Bronski Beat and added some extra pizzazz.
White Light also includes the Love Mix of 'History' feat. Will Young.

We Want Miles is now available on vinyl after almost thirty years!
On the heels of releasing Miles' Bitches Brew Live album, Music On Vinyl is also releasing another Miles Davis album that has been on their wish list for quite some time.
'We Want Miles' is a collection of live recordings from Boston, New York (where he had played his last gig in 1975) and Tokyo from 1981, and they're among the first live recordings made after an extended hiatus.
But unlike his 1981 comeback album The Man With The Horn, on We Want Miles Davis has rediscovered his famed embouchure and this album was released to great critical acclaim in 1982, winning a Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance on the way.
This is the first vinyl reissue since its original release in 1982, on double 180 grams audiophile vinyl in a Gatefold sleeve with its original artwork.
Playing with him are a level headed Marcus Miller on bass, Al Foster on drums, Mike Stern on guitar (not afraid to let it rip every once in a while), Mino Cinelu on percussion and Bill Evans holding his own on saxophone.

'Heavier Things' is John Mayer's second studio album, originally released in 2003 and the last one that features his characteristic laidback acoustic rock.
After 'Heavier Things' his music gradually transformed into a more bluesy style.
'Heavier Things' features his hits 'Clarity' and 'Daughters'. Although the last one is one of his biggest hits, Mayer has always been resistant on releasing this song as a single because at that time his music was turning into another direction. He was still skeptical even when he won a Grammy for it, which he mentioned in his speech upon receiving the award.
However, his label decided that 'Daughters' should be chosen over other candidates because it would be more well-received by radio. Given its success not a very silly idea.

In a time when rock critics saw The Prodigy as a glorified keyboard player flanked by a couple of weird and scary dancers, Liam Howlett & co showed the world how dance had evolved away from the club scene and into the festivals & arenas.
And they did that by staying true to their own sound.
While dance moved from Acid House to Rave to Ambient to Breakbeat & Drum 'n' Bass, The Prodigy changed their brand of hard-hitting Breakbeat with king-sized hooks and unmissable samples only sparingly.
Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned was the long-awaited album after their breakthrough smash Fat Of The Land.
Featured on the album are namesake Liam Gallagher, Kool Keith, Twista and even Juliette Lewis, morphed and wrangled beyond recognition on an album that goes back to the core of what The Prodigy stands for: a thumping bass, mad beats & noise flying every which way but loose!

 Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (2LP)
Miles Davis
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Ascenseur Pour L'échafaud is a 1958 French film directed by Louis Malle. It was released as "Lift to the Scaffold" in the UK. The film was nothing special, but it did accomplish one thing: it proposed a new ideal of cinematic realism, a new way to look at a woman. Jean-Paul Rappeneau, a jazz fan and Malle's assistant at the time, suggested asking Miles Davis to create the film's Soundtrack. He showed Davis a screening of the movie, and afterwards Miles knew exactly how to portray the smoky hazed or frantic scenes through sonic imagery. On December 4 1957, he brought four French Jazzmen (Barney Wilen / tenor saxophone, René Urtreger / piano, Pierre Michelot bass and Kenny Clarke drums) to the recording studio "Le Poste Parisien Studio" without having them prepare anything. Davis only gave the musicians a few rudimentary harmonic sequences he had assembled in his hotel room. Eventually "Ascenseur Pour L'échafaud" has become a great achievement of artistic excellence.
For the first time since its original release in 1958, Music On Vinyl combined the original soundtrack and the additional recordings and created an essential 2LP set with the original artwork.

 Hold On Tight
Solomon Burke & De Dijk
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
On October 10, 2010, Solomon Burke passed away at Amsterdam Schiphol airport on his way to perform a gig with his Dutch collaborators De Dijk. What was supposed to be a release party for their album Hold On Tight then became a celebration of the life of the one true King of Rock 'n Soul.
De Dijk, heroes of the Dutch music scene, and Solomon met and shared the stage while on tour in 2007, and they came up with the idea to record an album together. King Solomon was true to his word; De Dijk adapted a number of songs from their back catalogue for Solomon to sing, and they dove into the studio for what sadly turned out to be Solomon's last album. De Dijk's bluesy spin on soulful hard rock turned out to be a sweet musical match with Burke's powerful vocals, Hold On Tight is one of the truest rock'n'roll projects he worked on.
As allmusic.com puts it: 'an impressive finale to a genuinely remarkable career.' The first available edition on vinyl!

 Black Gold
Nina Simone
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In 1969, the High Priestess Of Soul, Nina Simone, descended onto the stage of the Philharmonic Hall in New York to record her new live-album, Black Gold.
It became a legendary performance, with the first recording of the Civil Rights song 'To Be Young, Gifted And Black',
a song which "is not addressed to white people primarily. Though it doesn't put you down in any way...it simply ignores you. For my people need all the inspiration and love that they can get."
Black Gold also contains a rendition of Sandy Denny's 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes,' in a minimalist arrangement that ends in an uplifting orchestration true to both the writer of the song and the performer. Throughout the entire performance Ms Simone keeps a regal, aloof and sometimes goofy composure, her monologues in between songs ushering the listener a little closer to her moving performance.
Her eclectic style takes us past a number of different music forms; past Soul and Gospel and Folk, Jazz and Broadway; her androgynous and distinctive timbre floats somewhere between melancholy and bliss, and yet we always feel that Ms Simone is taking us exactly where she wants us to go.
Overall, Black Gold is a poignant and touching album from the peak of her performing and recording period that should not be overlooked.

3. Ain't Got No - I Got Life

 Chet Baker With Strings
Chet Baker
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Chet Baker was one of the representatives of the West Coast Cool Jazz movement whose life and music appeals to the imagination of the people the most.
His heroin addiction is well documented, his exploits and misadventures are wrapped in legendary anecdotes.
But his life story never managed to overshadow his unmistakable talent.
Chet Baker has one of the most recognizable sounds of all the jazz musicians in the cannon; his trumpet playing is intimate, simple and delicate, with a hint of melancholy that tears at the heartstrings.
Chet Baker With Strings was recorded during three sessions in 1953 with Zoot Sims & Jack Montrose on tenor sax, Russ Freeman on piano, Shelly Manne on drums and Clifford 'Bud' Shank on alto sax.
The players are lifted up into the air like a leaf on the breeze by Montrose's delicate string arrangements, while the Baker and Sims interplay on songs like 'Loved Walked In' are amongst the best recorded in jazz history.
This fully instrumental album is a classic, and now available on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1953!

 Music Evolution
Buckshot Lefonque

Member of the Last Poets Gylan Kain, and godfather of Hip Hop once said that Hip Hop is the Jazz of the new millennium.
With Buckshot LeFonque's Music Evolution, Branford Marsalis seems to be thinking the opposite; that Jazz is the Hip Hop of the past.
One thing is absolutely clear; in the time that Hip Hop was still getting a lot of flak from the Jazz world for its abundant sampling, and many did not (and still do not) recognize it as a true art form, Marsalis took a big risk with his amalgamation of Jazz, Hip Hop, R'n'B, Rock & Pop.
He realized that these art forms originated from a social urgency and were reflections of their own times.
And while critics did not appreciate his efforts, the public certainly did.
With sultry-smooth vocals from Frank McComb, ´Another Day' became a worldwide hit, propelling the group to international fame.
Contributions from Guru, David Sanborn, and especially the lyrical flow of The Unknown Soldier produce a new generation of Fusion that takes the best of all its ingredients and creates a fresh-tasting melting pot of music

'First Rays of the New Rising Sun', released in 1997, is an attempt to recreate the album Jimi Hendrix was working on at the time of his death in 1970, as close as is feasible to how he would have wanted it (based on recordings and notes he made during the last months of his life). Tracks for this album ranged from finished to skeletal at the time of Hendrix's death. Much of the material had been recorded over the summer of 1970 at Jimi's just-completed Electric Lady Studios in New York City.
'First Rays' was the first of a series posthumous albums with hiqh-quality sought-after rarities and other previously unreleased music, released by the Jimi Hendrix Estate.

After the success of Rage Against The Machine's eponymous debut LP and follow-up 'Evil Empire´ this third album is another hard-hitting collection of songs full of political and social consciousness. With their catchy, yet raw heavy riffs and grooves they succeeded to release another album with actual hitsingles ('Guerilla Radio' and 'Testify' ). However, it proved their last album full of original material; the follow-ups contained either covers (Renegades) or live-performances. With Battle of Los Angeles, the ´triple treat´ was completed.
Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the album at no. 423 in their 500 Greatest Albums Ever list. After several musical excursions by all members, the original Rage Against The Machine line-up performed live on various occasions in 2007, but a new studio album has yet to see the light.
Like the first 2 Rage Against The Machine albums, this LP is re-issued on 180 grams vinyl.

Remastered
'Chain Gang Of Love', originally released in August 2003, is The Raveonettes' first full length album after they debuted with the critically acclaimed 'Whip It On' mini album in 2002.
Their sound has often been compared with that of the noisy and distorted Jesus And Mary Chain, while the Velvet Underground and even the vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers are never far away either. The most noticeable difference in sound between the debut EP, which had all songs in B-flat minor, and this album is that here all songs are in B-flat major. The result is an album drenched in an uplifting fifties and sixties sound.
Because of this wall of sound you might expect a Phil Spector production, but Sune Rose Wagner himself (one half of the Danish duo which is The Raveonettes) and Richard Gottehrer (producer for a.o. Blondie and The Go-Go's, and founder of Sire Records) were responsible for this remarkable and uplifting release.

Following 3 studio albums with original material (all available on Music on Vinyl) Rage Against The Machine
offered a tribute to their musical heroes, showing a broad variety in their favourite artists and genres. The
album (rel. 2000) proved to be their latest studio album and includes songs originally made famous by artists
like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Minor Threat, Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD, MC5, The Rolling Stones, Cypress
Hill, Devo and Afrika Bambaataa.
Instead of just giving each song the hard-riffing-and-rapping treatment, each song is treated differently,
resulting in a musically varied album. For instance, Renegades of Funk and ´Microphone Fiend´ have never
been rocked so hard before, whereas The Ghost of Tom Joad is Rage Against The Machine more subtle than
youve ever heard before!

When driving a band with the upright, or double bass, Charles Mingus looked--and was--gigantic, in
more ways than one. He had huge creative appetites (as well as being hot tempered), creating his own
combination of hard bop, blues, and avant-garde jazz. There was no one more multi-faceted than Mingus
between the 1950s and 1970s and of his many albums, Mingus Ah Um (1959) is considered to be a jazz
classic.
When Columbia first issued this album, 6 of the 9 tracks were shortened drastically to fit them on the LP.
Later reissues (on CD) have included the tracks in their original full length, but this edition of the album
had not been released on vinyl yet. We are excited to release the album 50 years after its original conception, as it was intended by the Angry Man of Jazz himself.
Containing the full-length versions of all 9 songs ( over 12 minutes of additional material)

KoRn are one of the best-selling Nu Metal bands on the planet. Of their 8 studio albums the first seven have been certified platinum. The demise of the band L.A.P.D. was the starting point for KoRn. The remaining members (Reginald 'Fieldy' Arvizu, James 'Munky' Shaffer, David Silveria and Brian 'Head' Welch) were looking for a new singer, found Jonathan Davis, and KoRn was born. The result was 1994's KoRn. The huge amount of time they spent touring paid up, assuring them of a fan base buying their future albums.
Their second album was 'Life Is Peachy' (1996), which reached No.3 on the Billboard charts and achieved platinum-selling status. 'Life is Peachy' continues right from where the debut had left off, but this time around, KoRn would bring some new, refreshing, and quite unexpected surprises to the table, such as in the playful 'A.D.I.D.A.S.' ('All Day I Dream About Sex').
With lyrics that reached out to many post-grunge teens after the suicide of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, backed up by a wall of heavy toned-down guitars and loud in your face hip-hop drumming, KoRn prepared themselves for a worldwide breakthrough that would happen soon after.

Audioslave may be one the rare cases of remnants of 2 great bands coming together and creating an even greater band. Consisting of three quarters of Rage Against The Machine plus former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, Audioslave came onto the music scene with a mix of 70's Zeppelin & Sabbath warped into the year 2000 and beyond. Having Chris Cornell as their leadsinger was producer Rick Rubin's idea and the band penned no less than 21 songs in a period of 19 days, jamming and rehearsing.
Their live debut was a David Letterman gig on the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York, kicking off a successful world tour. Debut single 'Cochise' was a worldwide smash and the 2nd single 'Like a Stone' even topped that (certified Gold by the RIAA)! The album was certified Gold in the USA within a month after its release. 2 Audioslave albums followed, before the members parted ways to join their former bands.
We proudly present the album that left a deep and lasting impact on the music scene album as a double vinyl LP, in a gatefold sleeve and pressed on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.

This 1980 album by The Golden Earring is proof of their ability to keep improving after an impressive lengthy career. Prisoner of the Night presents a collection of songs that combine pop hooks and hard rock muscle in a radio-friendly way.
The Golden Earring improve on this style instead of recycling it: The guitar riffs hit harder, the hooks are catchier, and the arrangements are more willing to take an occasional left turn. Good examples are No for an Answer which combines heavy guitar riffs with a killer singalong chorus. And My Town is an amped-up piece of driving power-pop that is worthy of Cheap Trick for instance.
The finest of the rockers is Long Blond Animal with its stomping beat, killer guitar riff and super-infectious chorus to create a blood-pumping, catchy rocker.
The end result is one of the finest albums of Golden Earring's career. It's a required listen for the group's fans and an album that is likely to win over any pop/rock devotee who gives it a spin.

Recorded in two days in the summer of 1967 Nefertiti is Miles Davis' last fully acoustic album, with no compositions from Miles himself. Most tracks are written by Wayne Shorter & Herbie Hancock.
Best known for its unusual title track, where the horns keep repeating the melody and the rhythm section improvises (in stead of the other way around).
Whilst an acoustic album, it does signals Miles' transition from bop to jazz fusion; a hint at the next albums Miles in the Sky and the critically acclaimed In A Silent Way.

Pavlov's Dog, the 70's AOR / Prog-rock band, was an odd crew. The band combined guitar, keyboards, percussion and bass with mellotrons, flutes and violins. On top of that, singer David Surkamp's voice has one of those 'hate it or love it' voices that's reminiscent of Rush-frontman Geddy Lee's vocal range.
Pampered Menial was Pavlov's Dog first album, originally released on ABC Dunhill and re-released on Columbia in 1974. At the time the band was signed, they received a $600,000 advance from ABC which was a record advance for any new group signed at that time. The songs Julia and Theme From Subway Sue received the most airplay.
Pampered Menial is a crossover albums of 70's hard rock and progressive rock and is strongly recommended to fans of either of those genres. We're pleased to release this long-lost gem in original gatefold sleeve, this time on 180 grams audiophile vinyl!

The Screaming Trees are considered to be one of the Godfathers of Grunge.
Although they were one of the best 'Seattle-bands' of the early nineties, they never achieved the commercial success of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. Founded in 1985, the band had to wait till 1992 for their biggest success, the release of Sweet Oblivion. The song 'Nearly Lost you' became the Screaming Trees' biggest hit after being featured on the soundtrack of the movie Singles.
Lead singer Mark Lanegan started a very successful solo career after the Screaming Trees, working with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Greg Dulli (Afghan Wigs), Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian) en UNKLE.

Turin Brakes' Olly and Gale have rediscovered the working practices that got them started in the first place. Written, produced and (for the most part) performed entirely by the two of them, Outbursts is a collection of songs that returns to the essence of Turin Brakes. The post-punk new wave sound of 2007's Dark On Fire is gone, back are the heartfelt ballads, combined with feel good music!
Turin Brakes' strength and essence is summed up in one of the album's standout songs, Never Stops, a soulful repetative song with a bluesy feel, that shows the enduring spirit of Turin Brakes.
Paper Heart is a vulnerable little song with a haunting piano and string part.
Gale, who wrote two of the twelve songs, is reluctant to analyse the songs in terms of personal experience. You pick up on a tiny emotion within yourself and turn it into a film, Gale says. That's what being a good songwriter is all about, and Olly is one of the very best.
One of the most dramatic songs on the album is Radio Silence, a song which captures a sense of OK Computer-era Radiohead.
I just poured my heart out/Did I go too far? Olly sings on the beautiful, melancholic title track Outbursts, a song that recalls the jazz standards of the 1920s.
With artwork to match the sonic outbursts on the record and a classy 8-page full-colour booklet, this album is a piece of art in more ways than one.
