Coquelicot Asleep In The Poppies: A Variety Of Whimsical Verse
Of Montreal
$18.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPS Sealed
|
Of Montreal's fourth album, was released in 2001 and quickly went out of print due to its extravagant and expensive packaging. Polyvinyl is now bringing it back in all its glory, with all 22 tracks and the entire booklet of original paintings. It's the band's most ambitious album with songs of wonderful madness featuring strange musical interludes, a detective story, gentle love songs, avant pop songs, and ending with an 18-minute piano opus.
The songs on Coquelicot, though crammed full of saccharine pop hooks, display a level of complex structuring and arrangement that could put most pop records to shame. - Pitchfork

 World Painted Blood
Slayer
$24.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Nine studio albums, thousands of live shows and nearly three decades into a career that’s made them one of the biggest and most important metal bands in the world, the members of Slayer know exactly what kind of music they make, brutal but beautiful, punishing yet precise. A fresh Slayer record is a thing of terror but also one of trust, you can depend on what you’re getting even if you’re unprepared for it. As guitarist Jeff Hanneman says, “At this point I think a Slayer album pretty much speaks for itself.”
World Painted Blood, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2006’s Christ Illusion, is one of Slayer’s most impressive efforts yet, a vicious, uncompromising look at what’s broken in our society and how frighteningly powerless we are to fix it. King says World is “more well-rounded than the last couple of albums.” Lombardo calls it “a speed metal record with emotion.” Produced by Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Slipknot). Executive produced by Rick Rubin.

He then moved to Tennessee where he began playing with musician Dan Sane with whom he made his first recordings as the Beale Street Sheiks for Paramount in 1927. The XX
$16.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The XX arrive with their debut album XX, a whole new sound of love, loss and longing. The XX are a London quartet, featuring the dual lead vocals of Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim (who also play lead guitar and bass guitar), Baria Qureshi (keyboards and guitar) and Jamie Smith (beats, MPC sampler). These four twenty year olds are childhood friends who formed while attending southwest London’s Elliot School, an academy whose alumni also includes such acclaimed boundary-pushers as Burial, Four Tet and Hot Chip. Bonding over a shared love of dark, emotive '80s guitar sounds and the high-end sheen of American R&B, The XX’s unique sound befits a band whose wide range of influences include everything from Aaliyaah to Cocorosie, Rihanna to The Cure, Missy Elliot to The Chromatics and Mariah Carey to The Pixies.
In an effort not to draw too much distance from the DIY aesthetic of their early demos, which were recorded in their bedrooms, they recorded their debut album XX under no one’s watch, other than engineer Rodaidh McDonald, at XL Recordings’ west London in-house studio. The result is a wash of sexy, coy, and sparse rhythms and melodies the likes of Robert Smith, Massive Attack and The Streets.
Vinyl also die cut with bonus track cover of “Hot Like Fire” and includes an MP3 coupon.

 The Swimming Hour
Andrew Bird
$19.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Originally released to critical acclaim in 2001, the third and final album from Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire, The Swimming Hour, will be presented on vinyl for the first time as a deluxe 2 x Vinyl LP set. Newly remastered under the watchful eyes of Bird himself, this album was produced by Mike Napolitano (Blind Melon, the Neville Brothers, and the Squirrel Nut Zippers) and is the final album to feature Bird’s backing band, Bowl of Fire.
As a special addition to this vinyl package, the original CD album art has been reinterpreted by artist Jay Ryan, turning the photograph on the original cover into a pop art illustration. Ryan is the founder of the Skokie-based screenprint poster workshop, The Bird Machine, Inc.
Bird describes the album as, “when the everyday becomes incredulous to you.” He relates this as a feeling he experienced in 2000 when walking through a roughed-up neighborhood in his hometown of Chicago. Bird was thinking of the direction of his next album when “everything got really strange-feeling …everything became really slow”. Andrew Bird had entered a state of mind he refers to as the “swimming hour.”
Fellow Chicago native, Nora O’Connor, appears with Bird as co-vocalist and back-up vocalist on many of the thirteen songs on . Bird also covers the Mississippi Sheiks’ “Too Long” and Nelstone’s Hawaiians’ “Fatal Flower Garden.”
The album has received critical acclaim and is considered a precursor to his subsequent solo records.

 Kind Of Brown
Christian McBride
$49.99
210 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP -2 LPs Sealed
PRE-ORDER
|
Kind Of Brown is the Mack Avenue debut for dynamic composer, bandleader and musician Christian McBride. Although he’s has toured and recorded extensively with his jammy, electric Weather Report-like band, Christian felt the primordial urge to return to New York’s hallowed jazz basement, the Village Vanguard. However, since the Vanguard doesn’t allow any “rock n’ roll music” he assembled Warren Wolf, Carl Allen, Eric Reed and Steve Wilson to form Inside Straight. The quintet holed up in the famed Fantasy Studios (Berkeley, CA) to record Kind Of Brown, a release fueled by the imagination/spirit/sweat of all those whom had toiled at the fabled studio before them, a truly encyclopedic roster.
This limited edition, two LP set, 33 1/3 rpm, is 210 gram vinyl for the boomingest bass. The gatefold packaging features liner notes by famed producer Orrin Keepnews, and each LP set comes with a free digital download of Kind of Brown, plus cover art.

 Vapours
Islands
$19.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Nick Diamonds' polymorphous pop band, Islands, is back with their third studio album, Vapours: a collection of fun, highly listenable tunes that effortlessly intertwine Motown grooves, electro-Krautrock anolog synths, and even some slinky horn charts. All this over Nick Diamonds’ undeniable melodies, giving us the one of the best collections of modern pop songs since David Byrne rolled out the big suits. After making a splash with their 2006 debut, Return to the Sea, performed with a cast of characters from Montreal's thriving music scene (including members of Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade), ex-Unicorns Nick Diamonds and Jaime Thompson parted ways for 2007’s Arm’s Way. Longtime fans will be ecstatic to learn that Thompson has returned for Vapours, and the band has regained much of the ragged charm that made Return to the Sea a press and fan favorite.

 Riceboy Sleeps
Jonsi and Alex
$29.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Known primarily for his haunting falsetto and other-worldly presence as the singer in Sigur Rós, Jon Thor Birgisson has, together with his partner Alex Somers, been exhibiting artwork and staging exhibitions under the name Riceboy Sleeps for two or three years now, including the release of a limited edition picture book. A couple of months back the early fruits of the musical side of this collaboration surfaced in physical form for the first time, with the track “Happiness,” on the exemplary Dark Was The Night Red Hot compilation.
Riceboy Sleeps is human in a profound and verging-on spiritual way. It says nothing, literally, and yet living through its 68-minutes you emerge feeling much has been revealed. Its slowly evolving abstract landscapes are both edifying and life-affirming. The record works as a whole, and exists in a contemplative dream-state, unconstrained and mesmeric, seemingly outside time. The record, however, is more active than its apparent antecedents in the ambient output of Brian Eno, and other deliberately low-impact works. Riceboy Sleeps is awash with both tension and stimuli, as well as being frequently, and stunningly, beautiful.
Played solely on acoustic instruments in Iceland and featuring long-time string collaborators Amiina, as well as the Kopavogsdaetur choir, Riceboy Sleeps has a suitably organic feel. The full-length Riceboy Sleeps album (the name having migrated from artist moniker to album title) is set to subtly redefine expectations of slow and elegiac instrumental music in 2009.

1. Happiness
2. Atlas Song
3. Indian Summer
4. Stokkseyri
5. Boy 1904
6. All The Big Trees

 Swords
Morrissey
$29.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed

Swords is a fantastic collection of B-sides, all hand-picked by Morrissey, available together in one collection for the first time. It draws B-sides from many of the singles taken from You are the Quarry, Ringleader of the Tormentors, Greatest Hits and Years Of Refusal. Although these tracks were originally released as B-sides, heard together and alongside each other on this album they sound superb as a collection in their own right. Opening with “The Never Played Symphonies,” the B-side to the top 3 hit “Irish Blood English Heart,” the album is a wonderful journey through some of Morrissey’s lesser-heard tracks recorded over the last 5 years.
Track Listing:
1. Good Looking Man About Town

 Why You Running
Lissie
$10.99
Vinyl EP - Sealed
|
Why You Running is a five-song introduction to Lissie that's centered around her big, achingly raw and evocative voice. The songs range from the hand-clapping, foot-stomping spirited opener “Little Lovin’” to the poignant country cover “Wedding Bells” to the haunting, soulful ‘60s pop-esque ballads “Everywhere I Go” and “Here Before.” These tracks were recorded at her current home in Ojai, CA, and at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC, with her friend Bill Reynolds (of Band of Horses, who also produced and plays bass on the songs alongside his bandmate Tyler Ramsey, who guests on guitar for some tracks). The hymn-like “Oh Mississippi” was recorded with Ed Harcourt in London, England.

Songs like "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough," "Off The Wall," "Rock With You," "She's Out Of My Life" and "Girlfriend" display the brilliant songwriting and intoxicating blend of melody and rhythm that would turn Jackson into the biggest pop star in the world.

 Onward And Upward
Luther Dickinson And The Sons of Mudboy
$17.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Just three days after the death of his father, Memphis (and Muscle Shoals and Miami) music legend Jim Dickinson, Luther opened the doors to the family's Zebra Ranch studio in Independence, Mississippi and recorded an album of gospel songs and hymns over the course of a few hours. Luther, one third of North Mississippi All-Stars and now a member of The Black Crowes, was joined by an ad hoc group dubbed The Sons of Mudboy (a homage to his late father's influential rock band Mudboy and the Neutrons) who were all close to Dickinson the elder and wished to address his loss in a musical way. The Sons of Mudboy include two veterans of the original Mudboy: Sid Selvidge (guitar, vocals) and Jimmy Crostwait (washboard, vocals). Also on the session were Jimbo Mathus (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals) formerly of the Sqirrel Nut Zippers and of the South Memphis String Band, Steve Selvidge (guitar, dobro, vocals) and Paul Taylor on washtub bass, and Shannon McNally.
Luther and company duplicated the sound of mid-Century era reel-to-reel field recordings, using only two microphones plugged directly into a two-track 1/2 inch tape recorder: no mixing after the fact. Ardent's John Fry mastered the tracks directly from the two track to the mother stamper from which vinyl pressings were sourced. Most of the songs were nailed in just one take with just a few exceptions and those were completed in no more than three takes.
The songs are part of Luther's musical heritage. He grew up hearing "Softly and Tenderly" and "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" at the Second Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis where his paternal grandmother played piano. He learned "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" from a hymnal that his father shared with him. Mississippi Fred McDowell's album Amazing Grace is the source of both "Back Back Train" and "Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning" and Luther had been known to perform them with the late Otha Turner who closed every show with "Glory Glory," also included on Onward and Upward. "Let It Roll" is an original that sprang to Luther's mind at the moment he was loading in the analog tape machine on the day of the recordings. Another original "Up Over Yonder" was written the day Luther's grandmother passed away.

1. Let It Roll

 Yonkers NY
Chip Taylor
$17.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
If a songwriter of some accomplishment who is also a singer predominantly known for his work in country music was looking for a subject for a deeply personal cycle of songs, it's pretty unlikely that Yonkers, New York, a small city bordering on New York City's borough of the Bronx, would be the subject.
Not, of course, unless the writer is Chip Taylor, who grew up there. With Yonkers, NY, Taylor, a veteran songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, the Hollies and, of course, the Troggs (who waxed his first big hit, "Wild Thing"), has gone back to his childhood and adolescence and come up with eleven songs filled with warmth and humor, enlivened with spoken reminiscences and packaged with a book of lyrics and vintage photos of the people and places that are their subjects. The songs on Yonkers, NY take us into Taylor's family life and into his discovery of music, horses and girls, opening these subjects up with a skill only a master songwriter can summon.
Musicians:
John Platania - electric guitar
Greg Leisz - steel guitar, dobro & mandolin
Tony Mercadante - electric bass

 Projections (Mono)
The Blues Project
$16.99
High-Definition Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
The Blues Project was one of the most innovative and influential bands of the 1960s. Rising from the vibrant Greenwich Village music scene, the New York quintet created a visionary fusion of electric blues, folk-rock, jazz and psychedelia, and delivered it with gritty, effortless expertise. Although the Blues Project didn't stay together long enough to cash in on the musical innovations that they pioneered, they served as an inspiration for subsequent generations of roots-conscious rockers, and the band's small but seminal body of work remains beloved by'60s rock enthusiasts.
1966's Projections is generally regarded as the Blues Project's peak as a recording unit. The only studio album to feature the band's classic lineup of keyboardist Al Kooper, guitarists Danny Kalb and Steve Katz, bassist Andy Kulberg and drummer Roy Blumenfield, Projections is a potent manifestation of the Blues Project's electic approach and a persuasive showcase for the band members' varied talents.
At the time of its release, Projections became a fixture on the emerging underground FM album rock radio format, and such enduring tracks as the garagey Kooper-sung rocker "Wake Me, Shake Me," Kalb's epic blues showcase "Two Trains Running," Katz's resonant take on Bob Lind's folk-rock standard "Cheryl's Going Home" and the spacey instrumental "Flute Thing," featuring bassist Kulberg on the title instrument.
Sundazed's new vinyl edition of this seminal LP features Projections' rare and unique original mono mix, along with complete original cover art, and is pressed on high-definition vinyl for optimum sound quality.

 Fever Tree
Fever Tree
$16.99
Vinyl LP Reissue - Sealed
|
Fever Tree's lone hit single, the haunting 1968 tribal anthem "San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native)," perfectly captured the spirit of the psychedelic era. Although their signature hit led many to assume that they were a Bay Area band, Fever Tree actually hailed from Houston, Texas. "San Francisco Girls" quickly emerged as a staple of American underground Fm radio, and won the band an international audience after becoming an airplay favorite of influential British DJ John Peel.
"San Francisco Girls" is also the centerpiece of Fever Tree's self-titled first LP, one of the period's most distinctive debut efforts. As the album demonstrates, the quintet was adept at incorporating jazz and classical influences, ambitious song structures and resourceful production touches. Such memorable numbers as "The Sun Also Rises" and "Come with Me (Rainsong" benefit from Dennis Keller's hypnotic vocals, Michael Knust's dynamic guitar work and Rob Landes' inventive keyboard textures. Also included is a memorable medley of the Beatles' "Day Tripper" and "We Can Work It Out," and a unique interpretation of the Neil Young/Buffalo Springfield nugget "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing." Fever Tree's expansive musical settings also feature key contributions from a pair of noted arrangers: David Angel, renowned for his work of Love's Forever Changes and Gene Page, whose resume includes work with the likes of Phil Spector and Marvin Gaye.
Fever Tree would release three more well-received albums, before disbanding at the dawn of the 1970s. Recent years have seen a resurgence of interest in the band's vintage work, and this one-of-a-kind debut album remains a deeply compelling sonic artifact.
The vinyl edition of this vintage gem is mastered from the original analog tapes, features complete original cover art and is pressed on high quality, high-definition vinyl, the better to recapture the original magic of this timeless album.
Track Listing:
1. Imitation Situation 1 (Toccata and Fugue)

 Heaven Is In Your Mind
Traffic
$16.99
High-Definition Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Traffic was one of the most original and influential British groups of the 1960s, gathering a diverse set of individual talents in vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood, singer/guitarist Dave Mason, drummer Jim Capaldi and reeds player Chris Wood. The foursome’s expansive talents and formidable creative chemistry allowed the musicians to integrate an array of folk, jazz, pop and R&B elements, infusing their eclectic stylistic mix with a playfully psychedelic spirit that perfectly captured the experimental sensibility of the times.
Traffic’s historic 1967 debut LP (produced by noted studio vet Jimmy Miller) was released in the U.K. as Mr. Fantasy, but initially reached U.S. shores in altered form as Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy. The American edition featured an altered track listing and new cover art with Winwood, Capaldi and Wood but not Mason, who had quit the band prior to the album’s release.
The U.S. LP added the British singles “Paper Sun,” “Hole in My Shoe” and “Smiling Phases” to the album’s running order, along with a short snippet of the U.K. single “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush” as a recurring motif between tracks. The American edition also tacked on the short closing track “We’re a Fade, You Missed This,” which is actually the fadeout of an alternate version of “Paper Sun.” The American LP’s title was quickly amended to Mr. Fantasy, and it was under that name that most stateside fans came to know the album, with the original U.S. edition becoming something of a rarity.
In any form, and under any title, Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy ranks as one of the most audacious and inventive rock albums of its time. Such catchy tunes as “Paper Sun,” “Hole in My Shoe” and “Heaven Is in Your Mind” combine stylistic adventurousness with effortless melodic appeal, while more introspective numbers like “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and “Coloured Rain” capture early stirrings of prog-rock and jazz-fusion.
The new vinyl edition of this seminal vintage disc completely restores the album’s rare original U.S. cover art. The LP also features the album’s incredibly rare mono mix, which differs substantially from the album’s more familiar stereo mix. Pressed on pristine high-definition vinyl, Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy now looks and sounds better than ever.

1. Paper Sun

Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo
Devo
$21.99
Colored Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Produced by Brian Eno, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! was a seminal touchstone in the development of American new wave. It was one of the first pop albums to use synthesizers as an important textural element, an innovation that began to lay the groundwork for the synth-pop explosion that would follow very shortly. Q: Are We Not Men also revived the absurdist social satire of the Mothers of Invention, claiming punk rock's outsider alienation as a home for freaks and geeks. While Devo's appeal was certainly broader, their sound was tailored well enough to that sensibility that it still resonates with a rabid cult following. The album features some of Devo's most memorable work with "Uncontrollable Urge," the incredible cover of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Mongoloid" and "Jocko Homo."
Warner Bros. Records released six of Devo's classic albums between the years of 1978 and 1984. To mark the band's new deal, the label will reissue limited-edition colored vinyl versions of Devo's 1978's gold debut Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! and 1980's platinum favorite Freedom of Choice, as well as a seven-inch vinyl single of "Jocko Homo/Mongoloid."
The day the reissues are released, Devo will launch a series of very special live performances in select markets (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City, and Toronto), during which they will play back-to-back nights in each city. One the first night, the band will perform Are We Not Men? in its entirety; on the second night, they will perform Freedom of Choice in its entirety. As a bonus, fans who purchase tickets online to any one of these concerts will receive three demos recently uncovered in the Devo vaults. The three previously unreleased versions, "Whip It," "Red Shark" (later re-titled "It's Not Right" and recorded with different lyrics), and "Turn Around," were all recorded on a four-track in the band's rehearsal space at Modern Music in Hollywood, CA.

Love Comes Close is the debut full-length from Philly/New York quartet Cold Cave. Matador is now reissuing the instantly sold-out self-released album from August of 2009. Singer/keyboardist/songwriter Wesley Eisold is joined by Caralee McElroy (ex-Xiu Xiu), Dominick Fernow (Prurient) and Sarah Lipstate (ex-Parts & Labor, Noveller). Eisold himself served time with hardcore punk legends American Nightmare/Give Up The Ghost and Some Girls.

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Neutral Milk Hotel
$18.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea may contain even more solo acoustic compositions than its predecessor, but in a nice turn of irony, it's also the most collaborative Neutral Milk Hotel offering. The album possesses an intimacy, and a sense of purpose, that could only come from shared experience. It's even more conceptual than its multi-layered predecessor, taking on history, faith and spirituality as some of its central themes. But the group's aim was not as much to reinterpret these themes as to rediscover them. The result is very personal and not always a pretty, stream-of-consciousness account of what was gained from the experience.
Named Best Album of the 1990s by Magnet Magazine, Aeroplane gives us Jeff Mangum's powerful solo acoustic work, full horn-section marches, history, religion and sex. Everything you hoped for and more!

 Never Cry Another Tear
Bad Liuetenant
$17.99
Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
With vocals and guitar from New Order frontman Bernard Sumner, the debut album from Bad Lieutenant rings with the familiar joys of beautifully observed minimalism and a voice of wonderfully understated north-western soul. But there’s also a new voice to be heard, one again from England’s north west. Singing alongside Bernard is Jake Evans, a talented musician from Macclesfield. This Cheshire town has had a significant part in the story to date. It was the point of origin of both Ian Curtis and Stephen Morris, one half of a band whose northern rock transformations seem to resound more powerfully with every passing year. A band called Joy Division. Bad Lieutenant are built on this sainted musical heritage, centering on Bernard Sumner’s voice and guitar and also with Stephen Morris drumming on some tracks. The album also features Phil Cunningham, a man familiar from both Marion and the most recent incarnation of New Order.
Bad Lieutenant’s blend of youth and experience, of local roots and musical futurism, is perhaps reflected in their favored rehearsal location at Stephen Morris’s hilltop farm where a full-size BBC Dalek sits in the corner of the rehearsal room. Morris is the band’s full-time live drummer, with theline-up as follows: Bernard Sumner (vocals/guitar), Stephen Morris (drums), Phil Cunningham (guitar/ keyboards/vocals), Jake Evans (vocals/guitar), Tom Chapman (bass). The very first Bad Lieutenant rehearsals took place at the Cotswold home of Alex James of Blur. Alex ended up playing on bass on some tracks on the Bad Lieutenant album, something that later gave rise to excited news stories portraying Bad Lieutenant as a kind of Blur/New Order supergroup. However, James’s involvement in Bad Lieutenant doesn’t stretch any further than his pitching in on a few recording sessions.
“We worked hard on the album and I’m proud of it,” says Bernard. “It’s also important because it gives people the chance to hear a gifted singer and guitar player who I think is very talented. This is just how I now want to make music.”
The resulting album centers on crisp, streamlined, 21st century guitar music underscored by keyboards and occasional melodica. The record includes Sumner’s seemingly effortless melodic invention, but now these familiar pleasures blend with vocals and guitar of Jake Evans. Perhaps Bad Lieutenant can be see as a new vehicle from a celebrated manufacturer, previous technology has been incorporated, but the overall appearance is new and it’ll take you where you want to go in novel and exhilarating style.

 Sea Change
Beck
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Beck’s Sea Change remains the best record of the indie icon’s career. And how. The sonic chameleon shocked the world in 2002 with this warm-sounding folk-pop album—a sincere, honest, and mature meditation on the end of a nine-year relationship with his girlfriend. As for the vocalist’s trademark irony, sarcasm, and humor? Not here. In their place is an affecting emotionalism to which anyone who’s ever been in (or out) of love will relate. The music is equally personal and meditative. Gorgeous string arrangements come courtesy of his father, David Campbell, and illustrate the heartbreak that informs the beautiful melodies and tranquil moods.
Best of all, this album is anything but a bummer. Intending to be heard to from start to finish, Beck begins the record with songs conveying emptiness and loss, and gradually moves on to narratives that detail what changes are necessary to regain a sense of identity, purpose, and feeling. By the time he reaches the concluding “Little One,” the healing has begun. Consider this Beck’s mellowest gold—a feat confirmed by its selection as the #2 record of 2002 on Village Voice’s all-encompassing Pazz & Jop poll.
And now, thanks to truly painstaking remastering efforts, this embraceable and intimate gem sounds better than ever. No lie. Master tapes of every cut were delivered to Mobile Fidelity engineers on a separate reel, with the finished product taking months to perfect. Unlike previous digital versions, no compression or dynamic processing was used, making this half-speed mastered 180-gram 2-LP set not just the definitive version — it’s the only analog version worth owning!
Track Listing:
1. The Golden Age
2. Paper Tiger
3. Guess I'm Doing Fine
4. Lonesome Tears
5. Lost Cause
6. End Of The Day
7. It's All In Your Mind
8. Round The Bend

10. Sunday Sun
11. Little One

 Africa
John Coltrane
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Recorded on June 24, 1958 at the Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ, these sessions (except for the bonus, “Once In A While” ) feature original compositions by Wilbur Harden (best known for his work with Yusef Lateef and John Coltrane) and hard-bop trombonist Curtis Fuller (best known for his work with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and appearance on the classic Blue Trane album). Coltrane had only just recorded “Blue Train” a year earlier and it is interesting to hear his style beginning to stretch out, as he makes his musical transition from strict hard bop to the groundbreaking style that would become legendary the following year on Giant Steps, making Coltrane one of the biggest names in jazz.
Track Listing:
1. Dial Africa
2. Gold Coast Side
3. Tanganiyka Strut
4. Oomba
5. Once In A While

 Coltrane Time
John Coltrane & Cecil Taylor
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
Recorded in NYC on Oct 13, 1958, Coltrane Time was originally released as Hard Driving Jazz (mono version)/Stereo Drive (stereo version) and the then 29-year-old pianist Cecil Taylor (not John Coltrane) originally got top billing on this date. This session is interesting because it is the only one Taylor ever did with Coltrane, and considering Taylor’s status as one of the true founders of free jazz and Coltrane’s status as a jazz legend, it is a kind of missing link in the history of jazz. Here the group plays two originals (one by trumpet player Kenny Dorham and one by bass man Chuck Israels), while the other two tracks “Just Friends” and “Like Someone In Love” are standards, an interesting look into early Taylor, because by the early '60s he was playing almost exclusively original compositions. One of the most uncompromising and unique pianists in jazz, his difficult and percussive style has placed him in a class of his own, making him one of those artists you either love or hate…but love or hate him, there is no denying his contribution to jazz, and that his visionary music is still ahead of its time.
Track Listing:
1. Shifting Down
2. Just Friends
3. Like Someone In Love
4. Double Clutching

 Meeting Of The Soul Brothers
Milt Jackson & Ray Charles
$34.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
A rare opportunity to hear this meeting between jazz giant and vibes pioneer, Milt Jackson, and the godfather of R&B and one of the greatest musicians of all time, Ray Charles! Originally released as two separate albums in 1958, Soul Meeting and Soul Brothers, this is the first time both of these legendary discs are available together on vinyl. Ironically, when this disc was released it was Jackson, with his pioneering Modern Jazz Quartet, who was the more famous of the two men. Here, being perhaps the greatest vibist of all time, he rocks the vibes and even tries his hand at a little guitar and piano. Brother Ray, on the other hand, wows us with his amazing piano playing and did you know he was also an excellent sax player? These albums have been highly praised by critics and fans alike as being true masterworks.
