 After The Gold Rush

The second of three consecutive masterpieces Neil Young recorded between 1969 and 1972, After the Gold Rush captures the vibes, emotions, and cautious optimism of the era better than any album of its time. Moreover, it contains a host of impeccably written and performed songs that transcend the period and stand as an inextricable part of the American conscious.
Recorded at Young’s Topanga Canyon Ranch and featuring backing from the legendary Crazy Horse, the then-unknown prodigy Nils Lofgren, and several other friends, the 1970 album embraces many of the seemingly artistic contradictions and eccentric diversity that have made Young so peerless. The title track, a devastatingly gorgeous balladic meditation on the '60s and a warning of what may come in the 1970s, proved prophetic. Every other song is equally spectacular and significant.
The bristling whip-crack of “Southern Man” furthered Young’s no-holds-barred political commentary and prompted a response song in the form of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” an anthem that its target praised. The country heartache of “Oh, Lonesome Me” simultaneously plays off and into the romantic spirit of the uplifting “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” and the exuberant romp of “When You Dance You Can Really Love.” In one swoop, Young and company traverse the Heartland, Southern plantations, Appalachian valleys, and Los Angeles hills.
Having languished for decades, this masterwork (named as one of the '100 Best Albums of All-Time' by Rolling Stone) has finally received the long-overdue sonic treatment it’s deserved. Remastered from the original tapes by Young’s expert team and overseen by the artist himself, After the Gold Rush now sounds better than ever. Young has never sounded so immediate, detailed, rich, or present on a studio album.
The record joins 1968's Neil Young, 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and 1972’s Harvest as part of the initial batch of Young recordings pristinely mastered from the original tapes, pressed on high-quality audiophile-grade LP, and packaged in sleeves that faithfully mirror those of the originals.
Track Listing:
1. Tell Me Why
2. After The Gold Rush
3. Only Love Can Break Your Heart
4. Southern Man

 Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere

A colossal effort that signifies his first collaboration with Crazy Horse, bar-none the best garage-rock support band ever assembled, Neil Young’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere explodes with loose electricity, country-influenced harmonies, and fervent interplay that took melodic rock music in then-unforeseen directions. Moving away from the mellow fare that distinguished his self-titled debut, the pioneering Canadian icon stretches out and showcases his penchant for unhinged guitar solos and drifting arrangements.
Having come across the Rockets while recording his first solo outing, Young spared no time in recruiting the band for his own purposes. With the trio of Danny Whitten, drummer Ralph Molina, and bassist Billy Talbot renamed Crazy Horse, and Young ready with an energetic collection of tunes that called out for longer instrumentals and raw tones, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was recorded in a scant two weeks time and just four months after Young’s prior effort.
His symbiotic chemistry with fellow kindred spirit and rhythm guitarist Whitten is evident on the drawn-out “Cowgirl In the Sand” and murderous “Down By the River,” both a tangle of rolling narratives, mysterious tension, amplified feedback, and longing emotion which remain staples in Young’s live repertoire. As does “Cinnamon Girl,” which is distinguished by one of the most famous and magnetic riffs of all time. At this stage of his career, Young had never written such an engaging and expressive set of songs and the album remains a landmark on which every tune is a classic.

 Harvest
Neil Young

Neil Young's career defining fourth solo effort Harvest spawned the folk classics, “Heart of Gold” and “Old Man,” as well as the affecting “The Needle and the Damage Done,” and it went on to become the best-selling record of 1972 and one of Rolling Stone’s '100 Greatest Albums of All-Time.' While firmly rooted in old-timey country and traditional music, the record ventures beyond conventional pastures and incorporates stabbing guitar-driven swamp (“Alabama”), hayride jigs (“Are You Ready for the Country?”), and orchestral pop (“There’s A World”) into its broad sonic swath.
Young’s lyrics here are extraordinarily reflective and poignant. He’s got love on his mind, and yet his emotions run the gamut. The music is both a release and a meditation, the stripped-down structures and economical playing conspiring to deliver maximum feeling and slow-burn impact that one never forgets.
The album features the likes of steel-guitarist Ben Keith, bassist Tim Drummond, pianist/arranger Jack Nitzsche, and drummer Kenny Buttrey, as well as a who's who of background vocalists that includes none other than David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, and James Taylor.
Having languished for decades, this bonafide masterpiece has finally received the long-overdue sonic treatment it has needed. Remastered from the original tapes by Young’s expert team and overseen by the artist himself, Harvest now sounds better than ever. Young has never sounded so close, lifelike, palpable, or three-dimensional on a studio album.
The record joins 1968's Neil Young, 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and 1970’s After the Gold Rush as part of the initial batch of Young recordings pristinely mastered from the original tapes, pressed on high-quality audiophile-grade LP, and packaged in sleeves that faithfully mirror those of the originals. For Harvest, this means a paper stock that you need to feel to believe.

 In Session
Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan
$49.99
45 RPM Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
In Session, recorded in 1983, is the only known recording of Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan performing together. Its long-overdue commercial release (the album didn't come out until 1999) stands as a fitting tribute to the genius of two of the greatest musicians ever to have played the blues on electric guitar. Now, it's available on vinyl for the first time.
Anyone who's witnessed a much-anticipated jam session only to be disappointed - with each participant deferring to the other, the end result being that neither ever got out of first gear — will welcome this pairing of two giants of blues guitar. Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan obviously shared a mutual admiration, but it simply wasn't in either one's makeup to a) be intimidated or b) take a backseat to anyone. Not without kicking up a little dust.
This is such a precious set to any fan of either of these blues giants. In addition to the free-spirited jams, there are priceless episodes of conversation between each song, both men exchanging accolades and King giving the much younger Vaughan (though tragically it was Vaughan who died first) some sage advice. This simply is a must-have.
Track Listing:
1. Call It Stormy Monday
2. Old Times
3. Pride And Joy
4. Ask Me No Questions
5. Pep Talk
6. Blues At Sunrise
7. Turn It Over
8. Overall Junction
9. Match Box Blues

 All For You
Diana Krall
$39.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
On this salute to pianist/vocalist extraordinaire Nat King Cole, Diana Krall has a lot to live up to, presenting a group of compositions that are ingrained in the public's memory as part of a lasting legacy of both jazz and pop music. It's to her credit that she went about this intimidating task with a resourcefulness and quiet grace that makes All For You an exceptional tribute. A majority of All For You features Krall in an appropriately unadorned trio setting wonderfully capturing the essence of the Cole trio's arrangements. Krall swings hard with guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Paul Keller on "I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm" and "Hit That Jive Jack," often employing Cole trio devices such as repeated unison figures and on-top-of-the-beat eighth notes on bass. Krall's own sultry, understated singing and crisp, straightforward piano is distinctive enough to cast a fine new light on these classic songs. Here on 180g Double Vinyl!
1. I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm
2. Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You
3. You Call It Madness

Os Mutantes

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Released in 1970, this was the third album from Os Mutantes, the geniuses of wacked out Brazilian psychedelic rock. They may have been trying to pay homage to their better known icons back in the States, but in doing so they created something that went beyond all that until, 30 years later, they became the ones that everyone was trying to imitate. This album, further testimony to their limitless creativity and considered by many to be their best, was recorded during the height of the Brazilian military regime’s crack down on artists, and fellow members of the Tropicalia movement, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil had already been sent into exile in the U.K. Available here on 180g Import LP.

 A Gathering of Promises
Bubble Puppy
$18.99
High-Definition Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
In 1969, Texas acid-psych warlords the Bubble Puppy burst onto the U.S. Top 20 with “Hot Smoke and Sasafrass,” the slashing, frenzied 2:33 freakout that kicks off the band’s brain-bending debut, A Gathering of Promises. Signed to Houston’s legendary International Artists imprint, the foursome were label mates of such hallowed acts as the 13th Floor Elevators and the Red Krayola. But A Gathering of Promises, the group’s sole International Artists album, stands out from the rest of the roster with its rich vocal harmonies
and heavier, Cream/Hendrix/Who sound.
Descended from Corpus Christi garage kings the Bad Seeds, the Bubble Puppy’s trippedout
calling card was its combination of soaring, fuzz-drenched guitars, frantic drumming,
stop-on-a-dime arrangements, and tight, graceful harmonies. The Bubble Puppy may have been a one-hit wonder (and what a hit!) but after a trip through the manic “Lonely,” the cryptically twisting “I’ve Got to Reach You,” and the majestic, guitar-searing “Hurry Sundown,”
any psych fan will be left scratching their head and wondering why—if they still have a head
to scratch, that is.

 Out Of The Cool
Gil Evans

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl 45 RPM LP - 2 LPs Sealed
|
This is the Gil Evans Orchestra that made its initial appearance at the Jazz Gallery in New York City toward the end of 1960. After having experimented with many different instrumentational formats, Gil has settled on this one as affording the most flexible outlet for his musical ideas. His taste for developments in all music is evidenced by his choice of material, his selection of personnel and by his compositional style. While some composer-arrangers in the jazz field tend to over-write in proportion to the time they spend and the techniques they learn, Evans seems to be headed in the opposite direction. Always aware of the importance of the improvised solo, his supporting material is never over-bearing.

One of the most enduring musical partnerships of our time, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) are revered for their peerless vocal harmonies, inspired songwriting and musical virtuosity. When the trio first sang together at a friend’s Laurel Canyon house in 1968, their uncanny harmonic convergence was immediately apparent, and CSN took shape. Each member came to the new venture from other high-profile bands, Crosby from the Byrds, Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Nash from the Hollies, and together they formed that rarest of musical entities, a supergroup that lived up to its billing.
CSN’s stunning 1969 self-titled debut album is one of the true masterpieces of the rock ’n’ roll canon. The album made it all the way to #6 on the Billboard charts and delivered two Top 40 Pop singles with “Marrakesh Express” and “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.” Also features the CSN classics “Guinnevere,” “Wooden Ships,” “Helplessly Hoping” and “Long Time Gone.”
“Crosby, Stills & Nash are a most important part of the brilliant history at Atlantic Records. The uniqueness of their vocal blend, as well as the uniqueness of each solo voice, made them the top vocal group in the world, and they are still today thrilling millions of fans they have accumulated over the years.” — Ahmet Ertegun

12-Song Collection of Previously Unreleased Demos from 1968 to 1971 Offers a Behind-The-Scenes Glimpse at the Earliest Days of One of Rock’s Most Legendary Partnerships!
After four decades as “three together,” the creative partnership of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash is one of the most enduring and influential in contemporary music. This compilation of previously unreleased material takes an unprecedented look at the earliest days of their collaboration with 12 demos from 1968 to 1971 of destined-to-be-classic songs that would later be featured on CSN’s studio albums and solo titles. While a number of demos feature members performing solo (and one finds them joined by Neil Young), the set opens with the trio harmonizing on “Marrakesh Express,” recorded four months before their self-titled debut LP was released in 1969. Other rarities include seminal takes on “Almost Cut My Hair,” “Chicago,” “Long Time Gone,” “Love The One You’re With” and “Déjŕ Vu.”
The collection, produced by Graham Nash and Joel Bernstein, reaches as far back as ’68 with Stills’ “My Love Is A Gentle Thing,” and also features his solo classic “Love The One You’re With.” Highlights include CSN harmonizing on a January ’69 take on “Marrakesh Express,” Crosby and Stills on “Long Time Gone,” and Crosby and Nash joined by Neil Young on “Music Is Love” (a song later featured on Crosby’s solo debut If I Could Only Remember My Name). Among the other highlights are three songs that would appear on Nash’s solo debut, 1971’s Songs For Beginners, including “Chicago” and “Sleep Song,” and Crosby performing unaccompanied on “Almost Cut My Hair” and “Déjŕ Vu.”
“On some of these songs you really hear us becoming a band, trying out different ideas in our songwriting and singing and harmonies. It really is a time capsule.” — Graham Nash

 Nevermind
Nirvana

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

Remastered 180-Gram Pressing Cut from Original Master Tapes by Bernie Grundman and Pressed at RTI. This is THE Definitive Version of the Life-Altering 1991 Blockbuster Album!
Pressed on Dead-Quiet Blue-Colored Virgin Vinyl and Limited to Only 4000 Copies Worldwide!
Few records changed the world. Nirvana's Nevermind is one of them. Released in September 1991, the well-produced yet emotionally raw album catapulted grunge into the mainstream and forever altered the popular musical landscape, turning Nirvana into household names and singer Kurt Cobain into the reluctant spokesperson of his generation. By year’s end, Seattle-based music, fashion, and attitude consumed popular consciousness. Nevermind had restored the gritty passion, rebellious mentality, and cathartic power long missing from mainstream rock. Call it the mighty sword that in one swoop fell the excess, plasticity, and emptiness of 80s music.
The record’s impact is also be measured by the success of its singles. Named by Rolling Stone as the #9 Best Song of All Time, the anthemic “Smells Like Teen Spirit” became an institution on radio stations and MTV. Subsequent singles “Come As You Are,” “Lithium,” and “In Bloom” also testified to the genius of the soft-loud arrangements and whip-smart commentary on Nevermind, which at its core was a blockbuster pop album in punk clothing.
More than ten million copies later, the record has only picked up more accolades, having been included at or near the top of nearly every major publication’s Greatest Albums list. Nevermind is listed as:
#1 in Spin’s 90 Greatest Albums of the 90s
#1 Album of the Year in Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop Poll
#6 in Pitchfork’s Top 100 Albums of the 1990s
#17 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time
#1 in Entertainment Weekly’s Best Albums of the 90s
In addition to the groundbreaking music, sound quality has always been among the album’s finest aspects. Cleanly produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Andy Wallace, Nevermind features explosive dynamics, bursting tones, and a wide-open midrange. While Cobain later disparaged the sound as being too polished, the truth was that the room-filling sound allowed the record to grab the attention of anyone within earshot. Much imitated but never equaled, the sound became the template that nearly every band requested be put on their albums.
And it has never sounded better. Cut for ORG from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on blue-colored 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, ORG’s Limited Edition Collector’s Version is THE definitive edition of this masterpiece. WE GUARANTEE THIS BEATS EVERY PREVIOUS PRESSING. Dave Grohl’s titantic drumming, Cobain’s gut-wrenching screams and distortion-packed guitar riffs, and Krist Novoselic’s loopy bass lines all feature life-size imaging and incredible presence. Do not pass this up!

 MTV Unplugged In New York
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Recorded in November 1993, less than six months before singer Kurt Cobain killed himself, Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged is a watershed document that presents a band at the peak of its powers. Unlike any other “unplugged” affair, the diverse album is not a simple stripped-down regurgitation of greatest hits or a cash-it-in set of nostalgic favorites. Rather, the live effort is among the most emotionally naked spectacles ever released—an album so starkly intense and profoundly personal, it’s impossible not to get chills down the spine.
Such intimacy and wide-range dynamics are reasons why to seek out the best-ever pressing of this detailed gem. And we happen to be able to satisfy your needs. Cut for ORG from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on colored 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, ORG’s Limited Edition Collector’s Version is the definitive edition of this masterpiece. WE GUARANTEE THIS BEATS EVERY PREVIOUS PRESSING. Hear the soft pitter-patter of drummer Dave Grohl’s delicate brushwork, the shape of each hushed note coming from Cobain’s guitar, and every inhale and exhale of Cobain’s voice from a stunning, up-close perspective that puts the band onstage in your room.
Made primarily with acoustic instruments—Grohl even trades sticks for brushes, Krist Novoselic picks up an accordion, and cellist Lori Goldston prominently figures in the arrangements—Unplugged in New York reveals Nirvana’s folksier side and clear ambition to move beyond abrasive rock. The setlist is as surprising as the stylistic makeover. Save for renditions of “All Apologies” and “Come As You Are,” the adventurous material includes brooding covers of the Meat Puppets' “Lake of Fire,” “Plateau,” and “Oh Me” as well as harrowing versions of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World,” and the Vaselines’ “Jesus Don’t Want Me for a Sunbeam.”
And then there’s the heart-shattering climax. Intensely private and disturbingly primal, Nirvana’s rendition of the Leadbelly standard “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” takes its place among the most cathartic songs ever committed to record. It’s the musical equivalent of the insides of Cobain’s soul being ripped out and put out display for all to see.
Hurry! Limited to 4000 copies worldwide, these will go fast. Do not pass up this chance to own the Nirvana swan song that Rolling Stone named one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!

 In Utero
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
A reactionary statement to the phenomenal commercial success of Nevermind, In Utero remains Nirvana’s most noisy, caustic, uncompromised, and aggressive album. It’s also the band’s best, a brilliant combination of contagious hooks, feedback-drenched squalls, bruised beauty, and biting lyrical wit intended to blindside causal listeners with raw emotion, difficult listening, and painful honesty. Rife with medical imagery and references to disease, sickness, decay, and dismay, In Utero is the distraught sound of personal catharsis and unyielding trauma. More revealingly, the record doubles as a haunting foreshadowing of singer Kurt Cobain’s suicide that took place just months after its release.
Unhappy with the high-gloss production and pop-based arrangements on Nevermind, Nirvana set out to make a harsher album that would literally alienate millions. While the trio succeeded in its goal of getting intimate with blistering dissonance and acerbic tones, In Utero resonated with the public, debuting at #1 on the Billboard charts and ultimately selling more than four million copies. Echoing John Lennon, Cobain’s piercing songwriting spoke to the disaffected masses that shared his anguish and set new standards for ironic depth that still stand. For every unsettling screed (“Serve the Servants,” “Milk It,” “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter,” “Tourettes”) there are introspective moments of folk-inspired elegance (“All Apologies,” “Pennyroyal Tea,” “Dumb”) that hint at the direction in which Nirvana was headed.
In Utero is equally legendary for the controversies involving its production. Originally helmed by Steve Albini, an engineer known for capturing live ambience and natural tones, the album was eventually remixed by Scott Litt after the group complained about the vocal sound. While the exact specifics of what party demanded the redo remain blurry, the finished results are staggering, with the added harmonies, better bass definition, and vocal volume boosts achieving an ideal balance that satisfied the band’s wishes. Now, you can hear it like never before.
Do not pass up this rare chance to own the Nirvana classic that NPR “Sound Opinions” radio co-host Jim DeRogatis named the best alternative rock album of the 90s!

 Reservoir
Fanfarlo
$17.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
Produced by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), Reservoir employs an array of instruments to create each lushly arranged track, including saws, clarinets, cellos, mandolins, ukuleles and melocias. First track "I'm a Pilot" looks at Howard Hughes' slow demise as inspirations. Whether its the choice of isolation or the inevitable end to it all, as in the track "The Walls Are Coming Down," Fanfarlo give us no choice but to succumb to the ebbs and flows, reflections and letting go that are conveyed in each metaphor that make this album so instrumentally and intellectually rich. Though a sense of melancholy permeates Reservoir, Simon's heartfelt voice and each band member's uncompromised musicianship invites us to soar above it all and simply let go.
Hailing from the UK, Sweden and Belgium Fanfarlo began as the bedroom project of lead singer / songwriter Simon Balthazar. His literate pop songs bear more resemblance to the modern folk sounds of Sufjan Stevens, Beirut and The Arcade Fire than the fashion-driven London scene where the band resides. As his vision grew he fleshed out the lineup with an amazingly versatile group of musicians who play a vast number of instruments to bring these lushly-arranged pop tunes to life. Tapped and spiralling guitars, an insistently hammered piano chord, or an ominous stomp, the fervour with which they play is stirring and infectious.

1. I'm A Pilot
2. Ghosts
3. Luna

 Bleach
Nirvana
$29.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP Colored - 2 LPs Sealed

Marking the 20th Anniversary of Nirvana's debut album, Bleach, Sub Pop is reissuing the groundbreaking set in expanded and remastered form. This deluxe double-LP includes a never-before-released live performance, special packaging, and the first run will be on 180g white vinyl (the first run of the original LP was also on white vinyl).
Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, Bleach was released in June of 1989 and remains unequivocally and unsurprisingly Sub Pop's very favorite Nirvana full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of the group's 1991 sophomore effort, Nevermind. Subsequently, Bleach has gone on to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone.
This 20th Anniversary Edition has been remastered from the original tapes at Sterling Sound in a session overseen by Endino. The bonus tracks comprise an unreleased live recording of a complete February 9th, 1990 show at Portland's Pine Street Theatre and features performances of "Love Buzz," "About a Girl," and a cover of The Vaselines song "Molly's Lips." Like the studio album, the concert has also been remixed from the original tapes by Endino.
A 16-page LP booklet includes candid photos of the band not previously released to the public rounds out this premier package.

 What Will We Be
Devendra Banhart
$29.99
Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
What Will We Be has a sunny, breezy feel with performances that evoke warm, lazy afternoons spent with good friends. The album is dominated by powerfully melodic, mid-tempo numbers played with relaxed expertise. But there's also ambitious stylistic range displayed with the inclusion of evanescent ballads like "Meet Me At the Lookout Point," the epic riff-rocker "Rats" sprightly R&B flavored groovers on "Baby," and the sultry Latin-flavored stunner "Brindo," the Roxy-inspired "16th & Valencia Roxy Music" among other pleasant surprises.
What Will We Be was recorded in a sleepy Northern California town throughout the Spring of 2009, and was co-produced by Paul Butler (from UK outfit Band Of Bees). This is the second album Devendra's recorded with the same crew of players: Noah Georgeson (producer of Banhart's last two albums, Little Joy, Bert Jansch and Joanna Newsome) on guitar and backing vocals, Greg Rogove (Priestbird) on drums and backing vocals; Luckey Remington (The Pleased) on bass and vocals and Rodrigo Amarante (Los Hermanos, Little Joy) on guitar and backing vocals. All the musicians involved played a part in arranging the songs recorded. Where Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon sounded like Devendra and friends brainstorming, sharing off-beat ideas and licks, What Will We Be sees them first and foremost addressing the particular needs of each individual composition. It's accomplished, focused and straightforwardly handsome.
Vinyl package features 2 heavyweight 180g black vinyl discs produced at Record Industry, in direct to Board Stoughton gatefold jackets. Includes two bonus tracks: "Welcome To The Island" and "Pray For The Other Person's Happiness."
Track Listing:
1. Can't Help But Smiling

 Freedom Of Choice
Devo
$21.99
Colored Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
With Freedom of Choice, Devo completed their transition into a full-fledged synth-pop group, producing a musically cohesive album spawning hits like the breakthrough hit "Whip It," "Girl U Want," and "Gates Of Steel." Synthesizers were fully integrated into the band's sound, frequently dominating the arrangements sharing equal time with the guitars. Everything is played with a cool, polished precision that mirrors the stylized uniformity of the band's visuals; the dissonance is more subdued than in the past, and the rhythms lock the band into a rigidly even keel.
Warner Bros. Records released six of Devo's classic albums between the years of 1978 and 1984. To mark the band's new deal, the label will reissue limited-edition colored vinyl versions of Devo's 1978's gold debut Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! and 1980's platinum favorite Freedom of Choice, as well as a seven-inch vinyl single of "Jocko Homo/Mongoloid."
The day the reissues are released, Devo will launch a series of very special live performances in select markets (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City, and Toronto), during which they will play back-to-back nights in each city. One the first night, the band will perform Are We Not Men? in its entirety; on the second night, they will perform Freedom of Choice in its entirety. As a bonus, fans who purchase tickets online to any one of these concerts will receive three demos recently uncovered in the Devo vaults. The three previously unreleased versions, "Whip It," "Red Shark" (later re-titled "It's Not Right" and recorded with different lyrics), and "Turn Around," were all recorded on a four-track in the band's rehearsal space at Modern Music in Hollywood, CA.

Gov't Mule is one of the most successful and respected bands in the world and they've been lauded by Rolling Stone for "successfully bringing the classic power-trio sound of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience into the 21st century." Now the band has completed work on By A Thread, their first studio album in three years. Recorded largely at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 2009, the album’s origins are apparent from the first track, “Broke Down On The Brazos,” named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring the trademark guitar-work of ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons. Perhaps less descriptively named, “Steppin’ Lightly” is another burner, set off by the soulful vocals and mind-bending guitar work of Haynes, who proves anew why Rolling Stone named him one of the Top 25 guitarists of all time. Other highlights include the lament “Railroad Boy,” informed by both Celtic tradition and the Mississippi Delta; the expansive psych-rock of "Monday Mourning Meltdown”; and the optimistic "Frozen Fear,” with its lush harmony and even a hint of rocksteady skank. In recent months, Haynes has been spectacularly busy in his other dual roles as guitarist and singer for The Allman Brothers, who recently wrapped an epic 15 night stand at NYC’s Beacon, and The Dead, where he has drawn rave reviews from fans and critics alike.

Wilco's 1996 follow-up to A.M. let's the music take center stage, making the band's overwhelming stretch into innumerable styles readily apparent. Jeff Tweedy's love of pop and the mechanics of making pop albums is clear almost immediately here, as he and his cohorts utilize the studio as never before. Chock full of unexpected sounds and styles, the sprawling Being There leaves no musical territory or influence unchartered and it offers what may be the first true glimpse at the band's artistic restlessness and uncompromising ambition.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed

+ Full Length CD - LP Cut from Original Masters and Pressed at Pallas in Germany!
Established from the ashes of alt-country legends Uncle Tupelo by Jeff Tweedy and other former members, Wilco was an apple that initially didn't fall too far from the tree. Their debut album, A.M. builds on the former group's brand of updated country-rock and emotionally charged songwriting, albeit with a more noticeable emphasis on the rock here. Many of the best creations on A.M. from the driver's-licenseless drunk in "Passenger Side" to the bar-band celebration of riverboat gambling on "Casino Queen" also sport an unprecedented sense of humor and playfulness that ultimately strengthens the songwriting and its appeal.

 The Complete Sessions: The Clown
Charles Mingus
$24.99
180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
|
One of the most controversial and difficult musicians in jazz, Charles Mingus was also one of the most prolific, and perhaps the greatest bass player jazz has ever known. Released shortly after his groundbreaking Pithecanthropus Erectus, which marked the dawning of Mingus' era as a major player in jazz, The Clown took it to the next level and as a result captured some of the finest music Mingus ever made. Listeners can now enjoy the complete sessions for the album, recorded on Feb 13 and March 12, 1957. Uniquely for a jazz player of this period, this album is comprised entirely of Mingus-penned tracks, including the explosive “Haitian Fight Song” and his tribute to Charlie Parker “Reincarnation of a Lovebird,” while the title track features a spoken word piece by Jean Shepherd.
Track Listing:
1. Haitian Fight Song
2. Blue Cee
