2011 TopTone Award 2012 TopTone Award

The BrioR embodies all the necessary ingredients. Substantial toroidal transformer, generous power supply components, rugged output stage, the use of film capacitors in the signal path and at all critical positions within the phono amplifier.

New output amplifier

Developed by our engineers a newly designed output amplifier using a low source impedance emitter follower Class A driver stage. Based around a complementary pair of 150w Sanken Darlington output transistors, this combination forms a complementary emitter follower emulating Class A conditions with good thermal stability and lower standing currents in the driver stage.

Remote Control

Remote control has been added to the Brio-R without compromising the sonic design of the amplifier. This was achieved by keeping the remote circuit separate to the audio circuit and having its own dedicated power supply.

There is no direct contact between the micro-controller and the signal path, the micro-controller controls the relays whilst the volume control motor uses DC control voltages.

High quality components

The Brio-R utilises the highest quality components and our engineers' experience to achieve the best sonic performance, ensuring it is the most advanced and feature packed Brio to date.

Improved power supplies

During the Brio-R design process Rega reviewed the circuit and improved the low and high current power supplies, coupling and bypass capacitors. The phono stage has been improved to reflect the current improvements in the Rega Planar turntables, where the input sensitivity has been increased along with a revision of the sub 100Hz part of the phono frequency response.

Custom Case & Design

Housed in a brand new custom case the Brio-R draws on the pedigree of the previous three incarnations of this model. The sonic recipe for the Brio-R embodies the best in traditional audio circuits with excellent engineering practice.

Features:
50w RMS pc into 8W
73w RMS pc into 4W
Remote control
5 inputs
Rega brand new custom manufactured case
Rega phono stage (Input 1)
Toroidal mains transformer
Sanken 150w output transistors
Specifications
Input sensitivities for rated output level:
Input 1 (Phono) input sensitivity = 2.1mV at 47KΩ in parallel with 220pF
Maximum Input 1 (Phono) input level = 100mV
Input 2 to 5 (Line) input sensitivity = 210mV at 47K
Maximum Input 2 to 5 (Line) input level = 10.25V

Power outputs at 230/115V supply voltage:
50Watts RMS both channels driven into the rated load of 8F
58Watts RMS one channel driven into the rated load of 8F
73Watts RMS both channels driven into the rated load of 4F
93Watts RMS one channel driven into the rated load of 4F
Continued high level use into 4F may cause the case to exceed 40 C above the ambient temperature.

"The Rega Brio-R sets the benchmark and then some. While its easy for those that regularly hear the worlds best (and often most expensive) gear to get excited about great sound, its truly thrilling to hear this level of sound quality from an amplifier with this price tag. Music lovers on a budget no longer have to sacrifice quality!"
- Jeff Dorgay, Tone Audio, May 2011

"No integrated amplifier that I have heard for under $1000 has a finer built-in phono stage."
- Sam Tellig, Stereophile, Dec. 2011

"...the Brio-R goes far beyond clichd 'bang for the buck' performance. It is a serious high-end amplifier, up to task in a system comprised of some of the worlds finest components."
- Tone Audio, Dec. 2011

"Start listening, and it's the music itself that grabs your attention, rather than any particular hi-fi virtue. And that, of course, is exactly the way it should be."
- What HiFi?

SoundStageDirect Glossary

VINYL RECORDS

Vinyl records are able to capture the purest quality of recorded music in true form. This is possible because the initial recording is captured on an analog source (usually tape) for the ultimate in High Fidelity sound, it is then pressed onto virgin vinyl. Analog recordings capture the bottom end (or bass) while adding sweetness to the high end (or treble) better than any digital recording ever could. Analog systems are still commonly used before they are digitally transferred to CD. This means that the sound then is altered in the transfer process when CD's are produced. The word fidelity means accuracy and faithfulness. High Fidelity sound is faithful to the original sound made by the artist, capturing maximum accuracy of what was intended for the listener to hear. Vinyl records capture those sounds for the ultimate High Fidelity listening experience!

180/200 GRAM Vinyl LP

These vinyl records are produced with 180 or 200 grams of high definition premium grade virgin vinyl. This is a higher quality audiophile pressing than the typical vinyl record of 100-120 grams. These limited edition LP's are manufactured with the hi-fi enthusiast in mind. A 180 or 200 gram LP is sometimes also referred to as an audiophile pressing, there is a higher bass response and an even warmer High Fidelity sound. 180 or 200 grams LP's are typically manufactured in limited amounts and are considered collectables, commanding a higher price.

VINYL REISSUES

Typically, a vinyl reissue is a repressing of an original LP, usually extracted from the recording's master-tapes. In some cases, reissues are remastered to lower surface noise and improve overall sonics. Reissues help preserve the music of an original recording, especially when original LPs become unavailable or can no longer be found. Reissues can be pressed on a variety of thickness from 150 gram to 200 gram and offer a great opportunity for records collectors to own many classic recordings.
