Original soundtrack to the 2008 coming-of-age comedy directed by Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking). The narrative centers on whip-smart Juno (Ellen Page, in a breakthrough role), a teenage girl faced with an unplanned pregnancy from an afternoon with the charmingly unassuming Bleeker. Juno finds her unborn baby the perfect set of parents in Mark and Vanessa Loring (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), an affluent suburban couple who are eager to adopt. Along with the total support of her parents, Juno conquers her problems head-on, displaying a youthful exuberance that is both smart and unexpected. Features tracks from Kimya Dawson, The Kinks, Buddy Holly, Sonic Youth, Belle & Sebastian, Mott The Hoople, Cat Power and others. Rhino.

The soundtrack includes all-new original songs from established and emerging alt-rock and pop bands, including Snow Patrol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jet, The Flaming Lips, Wolfmother, The Walkmen, The Killers and more.
You know you're dealing with a real blockbuster when the soundtrack is made up not only of rocking tracks, but of rocking tracks that were recorded specifically for the movie instead of being fished out of various preexisting albums. (Okay, except for Chubby Checker's The Twist--that one’s not hot off the presses.) Such is the power of Spidey that he inspired the likes of Snow Patrol, the Killers, Jet, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Wolfmother--and of course you just have to look at the title of The Supreme Being Teaches Spider-Man How to Be in Love to know the song is by the Flaming Lips. The overall mood is less heavy than on the previous soundtrack, with the selection hitting pretty close to an alt-rock bull's eye. Highlights include Sealings, a return to form for Yeah Yeah Yeahs; the Walkmen's evocative Red River; and Jet's Falling Star, a muscular piece of retro-balladry. Among the oddities are Coconut Records, the new project of actor (and former Phantom Planet member) Jason Schwartzman; its contribution, the lovely Summer Day, features backup vocals by Kirsten Mary Jane Dunst. Still, sometimes a big name is not needed: One of the best tracks, the anthemic Portrait of a Summer Thief, is by the unsigned (as of this writing) Austin band Sounds Under Radio.

Craig Brewer's film, Blake Snake Moan is a darkly modern tale of love, betrayal, sex and salvation set in the Deep South starring Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Justin Timberlake and E-40. The film is the second feature by writer-director Craig Brewer, whose first film Hustle & Flow won an Academy Award for Best Song and the 2005 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.
As Hustle & Flow depicted the underground world of Dirty South rap, Black Snake Moan, which was filmed in Memphis, Tennessee and surrounding environments, employs as a setting for the contemporary North Mississippi hill country music scene, revealing its sound through purveyors like the North Mississippi Allstars, R.L. Burnside and Jessie Mae Hemphill. The film and soundtrack also feature the artists The Black Keys, John Doe and Samuel L. Jackson himself, making his musical debut singing and playing guitar. Here on 180g Vinyl LP.

The action packed, modern day love story Twilight is based on the best-selling books by Stephenie Meyer. It tells the tale of Bella (Kristen Stewart), an average teenage girl, who moves to a small town where she falls in love with an extraordinary boy Edward (Robert Pattinson), putting her life on the line by igniting an epic battle between two vampire clans. Every song on the Twilight soundtrack is also featured in the movie. The soundtrack includes "Decode," an exclusive song from Paramore written specifically for the film. Foil stamped (aluminum) single-pocket gatefold jacket. Includes three Twilight posters and full art LP sleeve.
“I chose the title “Decode” because the song is about the building tension, awkwardness, anger and confusion between Bella and Edward. Bella is the only mind Edward can’t read and I feel like that’s a big part of the first book and one of the obstacles for them to overcome. It’s one added tension that makes the story even better.” - Hayley Williams/Paramore

One of the most debated over and sought after audiophile
titles, Casino Royale has graced many "Top Ten" lists for
decades. This quirky soundtrack, to the equally zany James
Bond spoof, features music and arrangements by the prolific
and very hip Burt Bacharach. The highlight of the set is a
breathy rendition of The Look of Love, by the late Dusty
Springfield. The main theme and supporting incidental
music are by Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass. The sound
captured by the young engineer (but soon-to-be Super Producer,
Phil Ramone) is still stunning, more than 30 years later.

"Suggestive of both the imagery of Win Wenders' movie Paris, Texas and the desert itself, Ry Cooder's score is a peaceful, poetic journey into the soul of an acoustic guitar. 'Paris, Texas,' 'Brothers,' and 'Nothing Out There' open the album as meditative blends of guitar twang and scratching ambient effects. The songs move at a pretty, slow pace, and the opening track sees Cooder plucking his guitar's strings and letting that sound vibrate into thin air; it's a motif that he returns to repeatedly throughout the score…the score works best for people who have seen the movie, but it's still a powerful and immensely evocative journey for those whose experience with the material is the album alone." – All Music Guide

Time to celebrate a brand new, exceptional addition to the zombie genre with Canadian director Bruce LaBruce’s latest oeuvre. Renouncing the most obvious cliches, LaBruce lets his protagonist gay punk zombie Otto ramble and roam the streets of Berlin until he finds himself cast for a low budget flick. With a keen eye for style, the director picks and mixes references from classic horror, silent movies and modernity into a strident, yet poetic film. Otto; Or, Up With Dead People continues the tradition of the political pornographer’s previous successes, The Rasperry Reich and Hustler White.
Spoilt for choice: Otto features more than 50 international tracks and sounds! After careful selection, Crippled Dick Hot Wax now presents the movie’s official soundtrack, featuring 14 tracks on limited double vinyl, promising to take us on a truly crazy acoustic rollercoaster ride. Yet despite the artists’ glaring differences, the result is a surprisingly coherent, compact and homogeneous compilation. Weaving classical, electronic, drone, avant garde, pop and punk/disco into a well-balanced whole, the soundtrack introduces cinema and music lovers alike to the weirdly wonderful world of Bruce LaBruce.

Leonard Chess co-founded Chess Records, the pre-eminent blues label of the '50s and '60s, with his brother Phil. Originally, the Chess brothers, Polish immigrants whose family settled in Chicago, formed Aristocrat Records in 1947. The Chess label followed two years later, and with it a mind-boggling flood of blues, R&B and rock & roll talent that included Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Willie Dixon, Etta James and Little Walter. While Phil focused on jazz, Leonard Chess honed in on roots music, making Chess the greatest repository of black music at mid-century. It was under Chess’ tutelage that Muddy Waters’ electric blues fomented a revolution that led directly to rock & roll in the person of Chuck Berry, another Chess artist.
The film Cadillac Records stars Adrien Brody, Jeffrey Wright, Beyoncé Knowles and Mos Def and it follows the rise and fall of Chess Records, which launched these legendary careers and made history.

Simon and Garfunkel and Dave Grusin On the Graduate Original Motion Picture Soundtrack On 180 Gram import German Vinyl From Speakers Corner
The soundtrack to Mike Nichols' 1967 masterpiece, The Graduate, alternates between Paul Simon's songs and pieces of Dave Grusin's deliberately naff Swingin' Sixties score. All of the former, with the exception of Mrs. Robinson and a negligible solo acoustic guitar rendition of Scarborough Fair/Canticle, are available on Simon and Garfunkel's earlier albums. Similar to Nelson Riddle's self-parodic work on Stanley Kubrick's Lolita, Grusin's instrumentals have a satiric edge that comments on the film's action.

The score was composed by director David Lynch and his longtime musical collaborator, Angelo Badalamenti. Badalementi was also the composer for such Lynch films as Lost Highway, Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet. The score here is best described as ethereal, ominous, sensual, hypnotic, eerie and brooding, remeniscient of Lynch's film Twin Peaks. Other songs included in this soundtrack are Roy Orbison's "Crying" sung a capella in Spanish and "Bring It On Home" by Sonny Boy Williamson. This 180-gram LP release is the second in Milan Records’ series of reissuing classic soundtracks on the quality LP format.

Hits From Shaft Isaac Hayes $19.99
45 RPM 180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed
Three remastered hits, cut at 45 on 180-gram vinyl.
"Theme From Shaft" (Side 1)
The undisputed anthem for what would be called Blaxploitation, "Theme From Shaft" is as popular and well-known as the movie it supported. The song opens with the ever-recognizable wah-wah, funked-up guitar chords, and we're quickly treated to Isaac Hayes' soul-drenched lyrics convincing ANYONE that this guy Shaft is one "bad mother…shut your mouth." The song oozes with the cool confidence that made the character Shaft one of the relative first Black film heroes.
"Theme From Shaft" earned Hayes his only Number One pop single in late 1971, winning an Oscar for Best Song, and helping him become the first Black composer to win an Oscar for Best Score.
"Soulsville" (Side 1)
Another one of Isaac Hayes' biggest hits, "Soulsville" provides the contrast of a down-tempo ballad outlining the plight of life in the ghetto. It's an emotional tale of poverty, drugs, desperation and faith.
"Do Your Thing" (Side 2)
Pure funk. This nearly 20-minute jam demonstrates just how potent the Stax houseband, The Bar-Kays, could be. They establish a groove in which you can comfortably loose yourself. After "Theme From Shaft," this was the most popular hit from the Shaft movie soundtrack. It climbed to Number Three on the Billboard chart, a remarkable feat for such a long, mostly-instrumental song.
Analogue Productions introduced test pressings from their Stax Records reissue at the June 2003 Home Entertainment Expo in San Francisco. Among the exhibitors to show off their wares using these yet-to-be-released 45s was Richard Vandersteen of Vandersteen Audio.

Cyrus Sutton's documentary film features an original soundtrack by Shawn Lee alongside Australian acts Band Of Frequencies, Low Pressure Sound System and Afro Dizzi Act. Lee turns out a sunny, surf inspired mix on this Double LP. His signature funky breaks and beats are backed by twangy guitars and harmonicas creating a hazy breeze of blissful tunes. Afro Dizzi Act play rootsy Afro-beat tinged jams, while Low Pressure Sound System record soundtracks and perform live jams. Band Of Frequencies is a side project featuring members of Afro Dizzi Act and noted surfer Dave Rastovich, delving into heavier guitar sounds blending psychedelia, roots rock and soul.

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the musical companion to the upcoming Columbia Pictures/Mandate Pictures film. The album features tracks from some of indie rock's best and brightest, including Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, We Are Scientists, Bishop Allen, Devendra Banhart along with artists like Richard Hawley, The Real Tuesday Weld and the late, great Chris Bell. Based on the popular novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist was directed by Peter Sollett. It's a comedy about two people thrust together for one hilarious, sleepless night of adventure in a world of mixtapes, late-night living and live, loud music. The film stars Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad, Arrested Development) and Kat Dennings (The 40 Year Old Virgin, The House Bunny)

He was a pusher that became a preacher. A gangster pimp serving soup from the trunk of his Coup Deville. A mutant cross between Robin Hood and Friar Tuck. Everyman, our man on the street, Brotherman. Continuing a tradition that began with Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song, and culminated with Shaft and Superfly, Brotherman was a blaxploitation film set to hit screens in 1975. Prior to the script being finished, the producers commissioned an original soundtrack to be performed by The Final Solution, a fledgling vocal group from Chicago’s west side. The ten-song album draws deeply from Curtis Mayfield’s well, certainly, but the proof in the pudding is Carl Wolfolk’s unique guitar style, a combination of flamenco and funk that stabs around the four part harmonies.
In classic Numero fashion, before even one foot of film was shot, the plug was pulled and the movie was cancelled. Dragged around for 30 years by songwriter and arranger Wolfolk, the tapes of his life’s work have finally been mixed, and the soundtrack album has been augmented to include two orchestrated instrumentals intended for the film.

Dagored is proud to bring you Maestro Ennio Morricone’s soundtrack to the 1982 controversial cult thriller Butterfly, based on a novel by James M. Cain. The film is a sordid tale of father-daughter incest and murder involving Stacy Keach and renowned Hollywood sexpot Pia Zadora, as the temptress daughter, Kady. The film also represents the last screen performance of Orson Welles, who plays a Judge attempting to convict Keach’s character for incest. Welles was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role here. Despite much criticism of the film itself and Zadora’s relentless publicity campaign prior to the film’s release, Zadora ultimately won a Golden Globe as Best New Actress for her performance. The Morricone score itself is relatively quiet, compared to some of his more nail-biting works, but as always, Morricone is a master of transforming the psychology of the film’s characters into music, which he does here with a subtle art that has made him the undisputed maestro of film scores. The quality of his work was also recognized with the track “It’s Wrong For Me To Love You,” featuring vocals by Zadora, being nominated for Best Original Song. Thanks in no small part to Pia Zadora’s steamy performance here, both the film and soundtrack have become cult classics.

The Soundtrack features songs from and inspired by one of the year's most wildly-anticipated films, "I'm Not There". The collection premieres new interpretations of Bob Dylan songs performed by an eclectic cavalcade of acclaimed and celebrated contemporary musicians.
"I'm Not There" includes two versions of the enigmatic title track, a new interpretation performed by Sonic Youth and the original Bob Dylan recording, a rare oft-bootlegged outtake from "The Basement Tapes" sessions which has been previously unavailable on any official release.
Many of the albums' performances include backing from the Million Dollar Bashers, an ensemble created for I'm Not There by Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo, featuring Sonic Youth drummer, Steve Shelley, Television guitarist Tom Verlaine, Wilco bassist Nels Cline, guitarist Smokey Hormel, keyboardist John Medeski and long-time Bob Dylan band bassist Tony Garnier. Eddie Vedder, Stephen Malkmus, and Karen O are among the artists backed by the Million Dollar Bashers. Other tracks on the album feature the alternative country band Calexico backing up artists including Jim James, Iron & Wine, Roger McGuinn and Willie Nelson.
One of the year's most highly-anticipated cinema releases, "I'm Not There" is a meta-biographical film re-imaging the life of Bob Dylan as portrayed by six different actors in six different phases of the artist's life and career. The film is co-written and directed by Todd Haynes, who first radicalized pop music history in film with his controversial short "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story" in 1987 and later with his surrealist glam-rock feature, "Velvet Goldmine" in 1998.

The seventh volume of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series doubles as the soundtrack to No Direction Home, Martin Scorseses's feature-length documentary covering Dylan's career from its beginnings to 1966 (it was aired in two parts on PBS in September 2005 and released in expanded form on DVD that same month). Unlike the previous three installments of The Bootleg Series, which focused exclusively on live concerts, No Direction Home is assembled from a variety of sources, including home recordings, publishing demos, alternate studio takes, and live recordings, with the first disc devoted to early acoustic recordings and the second to electric music. In fact, No Direction Home proceeds chronologically, filling in gaps between the proper albums or, more often, providing a parallel history of the most productive era of Dylan's career. All of this material -- with the exception of "Song to Woody," taken from his debut, and a cataclysmic version of "Like a Rolling Stone" taken from the Royal Albert Hall show that was released as Bob Dylan Live '66 -- is previously unreleased, and much of it has not been widely bootlegged (and the cuts that have been bootlegged, such as "Dink's Song," have never been heard in such crystal-clear fidelity). Where the inaugural edition of The Bootleg Series had many previously unreleased Dylan originals, there is only one here, the tentative opener, "When I Got Troubles," a sweet, simple 1959 song that finds Dylanin his formative stage. In place of unheard songs are a slew of alternate versions of familiar tunes. On the first two LP's, these are largely live versions of such warhorses as "Blowin' in the Wind," "Masters of War," and "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall," recorded when the songs were still fresh. These live performances have an immediacy and intimacy that not only illustrate what a powerful folksinger Dylan was, but also suggest how the songs might have sounded when they were new tunes. Toward the end of the second LP, alternate versions that are significantly different from the final versions begin to surface with an early take on "Mr. Tambourine Man" recorded at the Another Side of Bob Dylan sessions with Ramblin' Jack Elliott on second guitar and backing vocals. The third and fourth LP's contain several alternates that are similarly notably different, highlighted by a lively, careening "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry" with a different final verse, a "Desolation Row" with electric guitar, "Highway 61 Revisited" without the siren whistle, a slower, heavier, blusier take on "Leopard-Skin Pill Box Hat," a relaxed version of "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again" that lacks the carnivalesque swirl of sound from the Blonde on Blonde version, and a lean, insistent "Visions of Johanna."
Everything here is uniformly excellent and worth hearing well more than once. That alone, of course, would make this yet another worthwhile addition to any serious Dylan collection, but what makes No Direction Home noteworthy as an album is that it is the first Dylan record to offer an aural biography of Dylan. This does a superb job of tracing the development of Dylan as a musician, taking him from a young folkie singing standards, through the rush of his early standards, and to the visionary music he made once he went electric. Put in this context, the electric music on the third and fourth LP's sounds as bracing and brilliant and surprising as it did in the '60s, while the acoustic folk on LP's one and two sounds vibrant, pure, and alive. After all these years, that's a hard accomplishment to pull off, and to the credit of everybody involved in this terrific release, they've been able to make even the most familiar Dylan tunes feel new again.
As usual, this deluxe edition comes from the original mix down masters and was transferred by Bernie Grundman to lacquer on on Classic's "all tube" analog cutting system. This deluxe 4-LP set includes two alternate cover art gatefold jackets (Blonde on Blonde and Bringing it all Back Home), a 60+ page 12" x12" booklet all housed in an a special outer box.
