Compatibility Note: This pulley only works on Scouts with the stock 600RPM motor. This pulley is not compatible with Scouts with 300RPM motor or any other VPI turntable.

Upgrade your VPI 16.5, 17 & 27 Typhoon  to 78rpm cleaning ability with this simple, cost effective upgrade. Kit includes a 78rpm vacuum tube and tube holder.

You will see three rubber rings on the straight shaft; these are used to set the anti-skating force.

The two rubber rings on the shaft with the grooves are used to set the height of the monofilament. Set the rubber ring on the lowest groove if it is not there already and slip the loop of monofilament over the grooved shaft. Push the second ring down to lock the loop in place on between the first and second groove. Try to keep the monofilament as level as possible but don't go crazy, it is not audible and causes no problem if it is slightly off level.

You can adjust the settings of the mechanism using the 1/16" Allen wrench provided. Adjust it so the arm can travel to the inner grooves of the record without the mechanism pulling it or causing it to skip grooves.

Minimal anti-skate force is needed do just enough to keep the image stabilized and the cantilever centered in the groove.

The arm has an ultra low friction bearing mounted on a solid stainless steel rod with tungsten carbide tip, user adjustable VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle). As with the more expensive JMW-10.5i and JMW-12.7 arms, the tonearm wand of the JMW-9 Signature can be removed and replaced in seconds, allowing instant cartridge changes with multiple arm wands. The standard RCA junction box allows any RCA-terminated interconnects to be used while XLR termination is also available for balanced setups.

Like other VPI unipivot arms, the JMW has a quick-connect plug in its signal line for easy removal and thus easy cartridge swappingalthough I know of no one else using either so fine a plug and socket (Swiss-made Lemos) or so handy and straightforward an output-jack box, the latter mounted close to the arm mount on the Scout's back edge.

The JMW-9T offers the advantages of a unipivot tonearm with build quality that belies its affordable price. The JMW-9T was updated in 2009 to feature a full tapered armtube filled with a proprietary damping material, which greatly reduces resonance and improves resolution and soundstaging and increased effective mass of 2.5 grams. The JMW-9T makes use of a no friction unipivot bearing, mounted on a solid stainless steel rod with markings to set VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle). As with the more expensive JMW-10.5i and JMW-12.7 arms, the JMW-9T armwand can be removed and replaced in seconds, allowing instant cartridge changes with multiple armwands. An RCA junction box allows any RCA-terminated interconnects to be used. The JMW-9T is an update of the award-winning stock tonearm for the Scout. A unipivot design, the JMW-9T's single point of contact causes less friction than standard gimbaled designs. The tapered arm tube reduces resonance and standing waves and the internal damping reduces vibration even further. This means the JMW-9T is quieter, more dynamic and a better tracker than virtually every other design. No wonder it's so popular!

The JMW-9T uses the same geometry and mounting as the Rega RB300 tonearm and can be dropped right into a Rega armboard with no modifications.

Scout, Aries 1 & 2, HW-19 & older TNT owners will need to purchase the HRX platter and bearing in order to use the Periphery Ring Clamp. Using the Standard Delrin Clamp, can also help reduce (and in some cases eliminate) record warpage and create a much tighter seal between the record and the turntable platter. The clamp essentially "locks" the record to the platter, reducing vibration typically picked up by the cartridge that colors the sound.

The SDS allows for the adjustment of both the voltage and frequency fed to the turntable motor. Adjustments are easily made from the front panel using intuitive, soft touch controls. The selected output voltage and frequency are shown using large, easy to read LED displays. The SDS slowly ramps the voltage and frequency up or down to the selected value in order to prevent premature motor wear due to abrupt changes. During motor startup, the SDS increases its output voltage in order to bring the platter up to speed quickly. Once the desired platter speed has been reached, the SDS ramps the output voltage down in order to reduce motor vibration and, therefore, the systems noise floor.

The circuit used in the SDS provides an incredibly accurate line frequency of great stability. Additionally, the electronic circuitry effectively isolates the output voltage from the input voltage, doing away with voltage spikes, low level fluctuations, RFI, and frequency variations.

Instead of merely filtering the power line, the SDS first changes it into pure DC voltage and then digitally regenerates its own clean signal. This approach is superior to that used in many of the other power line conditioners on the market.

The SDS works best with synchronous motor driven 115 volt turntables, such as those from VPI. The speed of a synchronous motor is determined by the frequency it is fed. It is only logical then, that a device whose speed is based on the line frequency will always function better when a stable frequency is delivered. A constant motor speed translates into a quieter, more faithful musical presentation.

COLLECTORS ALERT: Many historical recordings were not transferred onto modern records at the proper speed. Using the SDS, you can now correct the musical pitch of these recordings by varying the speed of your turntable. In addition, collectors who have VPI turntables that run at 78 RPM will be able to accurately adjust them to compensate for the wide variation in recording speed used in the 78 RPM era.

When two great minds like Harry Weisfeld of VPI and Peter Ledermann of SoundSmith get together, anything is possible. The result, in this case, is the VPI Zephyr by Soundsmith, the first cartridge to bear the VPI logo and the first cartridge optimized for all the unique parameters of VPI's JMW unipivot tonearms. The Zephyr is specifically designed to reduce "azimuth smear", a distortion artifact created by unipivot tonearms and eccentric records.

A brilliant melding of technologies, the Zephyr is a hybrid design, with using the true elliptical stylus and lightweight aluminum cantilever from SSM's own Carmen and a trickle-down of the suspension and motor assembly from the Sussurro. This unique internal damping system provides proper transmission of energy through the entire moving system, creating a proper mechanical impedance match between cartridge and tonearm. Moving Iron Design
A Moving Iron cartridge design has both the magnets and the coils fixed in place. A very low-mass and extremely precisely wound iron cross is affixed to the cantilever/stylus assembly and placed between the magnets and coils; as the iron cross moves in the magnetic field it generates signal voltage. Since only the iron cross moves, more coil windings (higher output) and heavier magnets (more powerful) may be used without penalty. Other advantages to the MI design are very low moving mass (greater resolution) and superior channel separation (better imaging).

Is your VPI record cleaner drain tube clamp worn or broken? If so this replacement clamp is just what you need.

It is extremely important that this clamp be installed and functioning properly when cleaning records. If this clamp is missing or working improperly while cleaning, fluid can be sucked from the waste fluid compartment and be spread all over the inside of your cleaning machine causing great damage to the electrical, wood components and your wallet!
