Frou Frou is an electronic duo composed of Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth from England. Heap and Sigsworth met each other on the London Scene in the mid-1990s. They released their first and only album Details in June 2002, which has elements of trip/hop, ambient, pop and rock, using a wide range of traditional instruments and the ethereal vocals of Imogen Heap. The warm sound of the songs lies in the use of the technology on the album. It's the atmospheric and dreamy feel created by combining the stunning vocals with creative electronic beats that makes the album to an outstanding piece of music. First single "Let Go" is a dark exploration with strings and compelling vocals. "Breathe In" is focused around a steady walking tempo and a skillful bassline.

The album received critical acclaim, several singles from the LP were released. Across the United States the duo had established a cult fan base where they promoted Details. After the disbanding of the duo in 2004 they reunited in 2017 and been touring ever since.

In the late '80s, Eight-O-Eight State was at the forefront of England's still developing electronic music scene. Don Solaris, the group's first widely available album in more than four years, is something of a return for the group.

The music on this album is diverse, exploring many formats and styles. This album may upon first listen sound too much like a techno-rock crossover. But it is far from that - this music is foremost moody, deep, and full of risks.

An ambient piece begins the album, and runs into the industrial and heavy sounds of "Bond". Vocals are featured on this track, as well as a string bass and harmonica, bell sounds and chimes.

"Bird" and "Azura" throw the listener into a more bass heavy and danceable space. Vocal samples and somewhat eerie sounds give "Bird" a very moody feel, while jamming drums assault the mind. Steel drums from the Caribbean soothe the ears, when drum and bass rhythms break in through the serenity, accompanied by the tense and beautiful vocals of Louise Rhodes from Lamb. A bass line ricochets between the steel drums and kick-drum punches, bouncing off the walls and the trees of this far-out hot jungle. 808 State continue their journey into pop dynamics, dance, jazz and electronic breathing with "Black Dartangnon" and "Joyrider."

"Balboa" brings in tons of bass, perfect for those who love to feel it coming up from below, or like a wall of sound from speakers. If you love music, you'll enjoy Don Solaris. It was experimental in the right ways and well ahead of its time.

808 State are an English electronic music group, formed in 1987 in Manchester, taking their name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. 808 State's style has been labelled as techno and house, and the band are regarded as pioneers of the acid house sound.

Martin Price was the owner of a record store, Eastern Bloc, and was also the founder of the independent record label, Creed. Customers Graham Massey and Gerald Simpson joined Price to form a hip hop group called Hit Squad Manchester. Soon after, the band shifted to acid house, using the name 808 State for the first time.

Gorgeous is their fourth studio album. The album has some new wave influences; sampling Joy Division's track "She's Lost Control" in "Contrique", Ian McCulloch as guest vocalist on "Moses" and "10 X 10" a gospel-house track built on the foundation of The Jam's "Start!". You will also find a reworking of UB40's "One in Ten". Furthermore the album features guest vocalists Barrington Stuart, Rachel McFarlane and Caroline Seaman.

Extra Virgin was the first release for British Trip Hop band Olive, released in 1996. This album defined Olive's style, spawning three singles, "You're Not Alone", "Outlaw", and "Miracle". The Trip Hop influence of Massive Attack and Portishead, while in small quantities, are evident, mixed in with synth-based electronic dance.

A year after its initial release, Olive's debut album Extra Virgin produced a number one British hit with "You're Not Alone," a low-key Trip-Hop number with a graceful melody. It's a strong single, and there are similarly strong moments on Extra Virgin.

The band created some samples by recording live sounds, edited and subsequently filtered. Synthesizers used on the album were a Roland Juno-60, an E-mu Systems Vintage Keys, and an Akai S3000XL sampler. All in all this makes for an organic, trippy experience.

ex:el is the third studio album by 808 State, released in 1991. In contrast to the band's previous works, the album features heavier beats and percussion, embracing earlier flirtations with hip-hop and industrial music.

The album also features the guest vocals of Bernard Sumner of Joy Division and New Order fame, who sings on "Spanish Heart". In addition, Björk sings on "Qmart" and "Ooops" and is credited with co-writing the two songs, establishing a partnership with 808 State's Graham Massey that would result in his working on many of her solo projects.

Add to all this two of the best techno singles from the early '90s -- "In Yer Face," a subtly politicized anti-American slammer, and the almighty "Cubik"; and Ex:El stands out all the more strongly. A true masterpiece.

While Kraftwerk was emerging in Europe and became an influence and inspiration to the Japanese superstars, YMO stayed true to their unique sound.

YMO's second album Solid State Survivor was released in 1979, and represented numerous crossover tracks from Techno to New Wave. Solid State Survivor is probably the most sampled YMO album, as over the years several artists performed numerous covers of "Behind The Mask". This extremely popular album peaked at # 1 in several charts all over the world

Perhaps not as well known to the general public, Bethlehem Records earned its place in Jazz history with the release of debut albums from artists like Carmen McRae, Chris Connor, Herbie Mann and Johnny Hartman. Besides that, check those early covers - pure art!

Bethlehem's most famous release is the 1958 debut album by Nina Simone, Little Girl Blue. So when DJ Maestro got the chance to remix this album, he was thrilled. Soon he got the idea to ask some of his favorite producers to collaborate, like Mop Mop, Renegades of Jazz, Gramophonedzie, Fab Samperi, The Reflex and Mees Dierdorp.

One thing they all had in common: excitement to work with the original recordings from this iconic album. The result is 14 remixes, each with a unique approach to the original song, and all with a contemporary feel.

This first YMO album was released in 1978 in Japan ('79 in Europe) and set a precedent in the music industry like never before. By releasing this daring album, YMO shook the world with their Synthpop','at the time a revelation as well as a revolution.

YMO created their own sound, far ahead of its time. The band was amongst the first to use a "computer music composer", which was a programmed Roland MC-8 Microcomposer developed by Hideki Matsutake (composer, arranger and computer programmer). The trio mainly used electronic equipment on this album. The only acoustic instruments used were a piano and marimba percussion set. This type of production was never heard of before and set about a new movement within the music business.

Featuring the hit "Firecracker", an infectious and exotic Martin Denny cover, which became a staple in the early Hip Hop scene in New York.

Using the latest technology 'Iconic Groove' was nevertheless recorded the oldskool way starting with real bass guitars & rhythm guitars sessions, adding horns and live rhythm elements. Overlaying with Iconic synthesizer sounds from Moog, Korg, Roland, and many more capturing the early years of electronic music with captivating sequence patterns and sweeping modulating pad sounds.

Iconic Groove is produced, arranged, engineered and mixed by Ben Liebrand. Ben's inspiration is clearly audible with collaborations of icons like Cerrone and James D-Train Williams, Tonys Scott and more. With a broad selection of dance ranging from super Funky through Disco to throbbing sequencers!

'Making this album has been a journey of discovery in so many ways', says Lou. 'After making music together over a period of almost 20 years (with a 5 year hiatus to take a breath) it's reassuring that new routes and approaches seem to abound. Over those years I think we've learnt that this journey needs no map; in fact tearing that map up, at every twist and turn, has become our regular gleeful practice.'

Ready For The Weekend is the second studio album by Scottish recording artist Calvin Harris, released in 2009. The album topped the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry.

Harris had been working on the album since the release of his debut album, I Created Disco [MOVLP1185], with the first tracks being recorded in 2008. In April 2008, Harris stated that the only existing copy of his then-upcoming album was lost when his laptop was misplaced during the baggage handling problems at the opening of London Heathrow Terminal 5. He later stated on the BBC's Glastonbury Festival 2008 coverage that he got his baggage back including the album within a few days. However, Harris ultimately admitted in April 2009 that this was a lie as the album was not in his luggage at all, and that he hoped that what he said would give him more time to finish recording the album.

"I'm Not Alone" was released as the album's lead single. The song debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart, knocking off Lady Gaga's "Poker Face". It spent two weeks atop the chart, before dropping to number three in its third week. "Ready for the Weekend" was released as the album's second single, peaking at number three on the UK Singles Chart. "Flashback" and "You Used to Hold Me", were also released as singles. An extended version of Harris's 2008 chart-topping collaboration with Dizzee Rascal, "Dance wiv Me", is also included on the album. "Yeah Yeah Yeah La La La" was used in a Coca-Cola advertisement in the summer of 2009.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop came together in 1958 to produce music and sound effects for BBC Radio and Television programmes using hand built, custom designed electronic, tape and electro-acoustic techniques. By the mid-1970s, the synthesiser era was well-and-truly here, with the Workshop increasingly being asked to provide theme tunes and background music for TV and radio.

Production on Peter Howell's first solo album Through a Glass Darkly started in 1977, with Peter given the opportunity to develop a new suite of compositions specifically to cover one side of the album, albeit on a typically tight BBC time schedule and virtually non-existent budget! The album stands shoulder to shoulder with Vangelis's Beauborg and Jean Michel Jarre's Equinoxe, in terms of its influence and pioneering use of synthesizers.
