Currently, Ortofon produces four different cartridges: moving magnets, designed and manufactured by Ortofon since 1969; moving coils, still proudly handcrafted; SPU cartridges, refined in the tradition of the first-ever moving coil cartridges; and mono cartridges, a tribute to the lasting qualities of mono records from the 1950s and 60s reissued today.
Ortofon moving magnet cartridges are economical, feature sophisticated styli, light and rigid cantilevers, and their advanced magnetic circuitry produces state-of-the-art sound quality within the magnetic category. The Ortofon 2M series combines form and functionality, designed for precise and accurate retrieval of information at an affordable price. Ortofon 2M cartridges begin with the most basic and affordable model, the 2M Red, and progresses upwards through 2M Blue, 2M Bronze, and 2M Black, as well as offering a Mono cartridge and several other variations.
Ortofon moving coil cartridges demonstrate the company’s commitment to the continuous refinement of analogue sound quality. Unlike other phono cartridges, the moving coil cartridge is painstakingly handcrafted—each of the four coils contains anywhere between 11 to 24 turns of wire hand-wound beneath a microscope. Throughout its history, Ortofon has introduced more than 300 moving coil models up to the favorites of today, the Cadenza and Quintet series. Like the 2M series, both the Cadenza MC and Quintet MC series offer several cartridges to fulfill various needs and budgets. Following an easy scheme starting with Mono and Red as the most basic and affordable models, the series moves through Blue, Bronze and finally, Black.
Supporting their wide selection of cartridges, Ortofon designs and manufactures a range of tonearm cables, stylus guards, and replacement styli—always ensure you purchase the genuine article by recognizing the large Ortofon logo on the stylus body.
