    Everywhere At Once

Lyrics Born (a.k.a. Tom Shimura) has long been known for his innovative beats, creative collaborations and soulful vocals. Here he takes a giant leap forward in song craft, incorporating elements such as pop, reggaeton and R&B. It's the rare MC who can bridge the gap between hip-hop and alternative rock, owning the crowd at Bonnaroo and Bumbershoot as easily as he trades rhymes with Charlie 2na.

With beats courtesy of Jake One, Amp Live, Trackademics and Lyrics Born himself, Everywhere At Once dabbles in everything from old-school rap, electro, 1970s soul, and G-Funk to contemporary R&B, pop, and jazz. By refusing to assign himself to any specific style within the hip-hop genre, Lyrics Born is able to transcend it. The end result is a well-rounded effort that succeeds in its many endeavors, appealing to all kinds of music fans while never sounding derivative. Honest, introspective and eclectic, Everywhere At Once is among the best hip-hop albums of 2008.

    Deeds Not Words

This (LP) reissue of a Max Roach Riverside date is notable for featuring the great young trumpeter Booker Little and for utilizing Ray Draper's tuba as a melody instrument; tenor saxophonist George Coleman and bassist Art Davis complete the excellent quintet. Highlights include It's You or No One, You Stepped out of a Dream and Roach's unaccompanied drum piece Conversation. This is fine music from a group that was trying to stretch themselves beyond hard bop. - allmusic.com

    Year Of The Snake

Los Angeles' SILVER SNAKES are back with their second full length, "Year of the Snake," the follow-up to their 2011 critically acclaimed debut, "Pictures
of a Floating World." "Year of the Snake," which was named one of Alternative Press' "Most Anticipated Albums of 2013," sees the band's vocalist,
guitarist and principle songwriter, Alex Estrada, whose "day job" is recording bands including Nails, TouchÉ Amore and Joyce Manor, stepping behind the
board to produce his own band. Roger Camaro, of No Motive, who co-produced "Pictures," worked with Estrada recording drums and basic tracks for the
record. After the recording process in LA, the tracks were sent to Salad Days Studios, in Baltimore, to be mixed by Brian McTernan, whose resume'
includes acts influential to SILVER SNAKES, such as, Cave In, Engine Down, Thrice, and Circa Survive. The resulting eleven songs see SILVER
SNAKES going in a darker direction than they had visited on "Pictures," and finds their dynamic range expanding; the band has grown louder and more
dissonant on tracks like "No Color," while getting quieter and more desolate on tracks like "Lock."

    Terraplane

Terraplane takes its title from the 1930s Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit model, which also inspired the Robert Johnson song, "Terraplane Blues." It is Earle's 16th studio album since the release of his highly influential 1986 debut Guitar Town. As its title suggests, the album is very much a blues record, some of which was written while Earle toured Europe alone for five weeks with just a guitar, a mandolin and a backpack

Limited edition vinyl LP pressing of the uber-successful album from this UK vocalist. 'Back To Black' is the second album from London-based chanteuse Amy Winehouse. Although her 2003 debut was a success, her rowdy offstage behavior became the focus of tabloids and critics instead of the music. Because of this, Winehouse stepped out of the spotlight and concentrated on putting the focus back on her music. Three years later, her sophomore release has surprised critics and excited her fanbase. Combining a strong, Jazzy vocal style with often frank lyrical content recounting tales of love and loss, Winehouse is a truly talented songwriter with a good ear for melody, making this album an essential purchase. Includes the single 'Rehab'. Island.

    Helpers On The Other Side

Adding flourishes to the formula established on their debut Out of Africa, Alternative Tentacles' flagship band Triclops! continues its assault on all pretenders to the punk / psych / prog throne.

The sound on this album is varied, but one might say it's akin to fIREHOSE crossing streams with Goblin in an acid vat. There's even an acoustic bridge in With SARS, I'll Ride the Wind that sounds like a fever-warbled classic rock jammer.

Triclops! is an acid-punk version of avant-garde classical composition with cinematic textures--an absurdist soundscape replete with comedic relief that acknowledges its own pure ridiculousness. This career suicide / cult-accepted approach to exhibitionism finds kindred spirits in envelope-pushing, progress-obsessed minds like Butthole Surfers, Slayer, David Lynch, Zappa, Heinlein, Timothy Leary, Melvins / Big Business, B. Traven, Deerhoof, Bill Hicks, Sun Ra, Fellini, Sonic Youth, and Scratch Acid.

Having toured Europe and shared bills with Melt Banana, NoMeansNo, Big Business, and Jesus Lizard, these post-punk veterans' distinct sound is unmistakably Triclops!

    Private Eyes

Private Eyes on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram LP from Mobile Fidelity

1981 Album Established Parameters for Decade's Celebrated Pop Sounds

Includes Private Eyes, I Can't Go For That (No Can Do), Did It in a Minute

Meticulous Merger of Pop, Soul, Rock, and R&B Crossed Over Into all Fields

Stylish, Sophisticated Production Comes to Fore on Mobile Fidelity Reissue, Mastered from the Original Master Tapes

Hall and Oates could've easily followed the protocol established on their breakthrough Voices, done nothing else, and watched 1981's follow-up Private Eyes scale the charts. Yet the duo continues to press forward, further refining the era-defining stylistic mÉlange that propelled them to mass stardom a year prior. The creative and artistic peak of the all-time best-selling male duo's output, Private Eyes delivers relentless pop bliss and functions as an instruction manual that, as Rolling Stone opined, still teaches "the way to make rock girls, disco girls, and new-wave girls scream together."

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180 gram LP at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's reissue presents the Top 5 album's sharp, widescreen production values with awe-inspiring detail and palpable realism. For the first time, listeners can get inside the songs' internal mechanisms by experiencing first-hand the vast surfeit understated sonic effects. Well-appointed tones now grace the array of guitars, pianos, basses, and voices placed against synthesized backdrops. Each member's singing also claims enhanced intimacy and balance. Offering tremendous insight, Mobile Fidelity's LP doubles as a lesson in the construction and sustain of big, bold grooves.

Advancing their rhythmic support and melodic symmetry, Hall and Oates give extra space to their still-underrated backing band, affording the material a muscular punch and organic warmth crucial to their success and ability to transcend the largely artificial era. While the tandem's peers often relied on robotic mechanisms and now-dated keyboard noises, Hall and Oates wisely merge the period's savvy sounds with tried-and-true soulful instrumentation.

Reflecting the album's infallible level of quality control, no song disappoints. The three Top 40 singles-the title track, "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)," and "Your Imagination"-feature clever elements such as hand-clapped choruses and staccato piano lines. The distinctive traits complement the duo's hallmark harmony vocals and add R&B flavors to already-scintillating pop concoctions. Yet Private Eyes' pleasures advance well beyond the radio singles.

Whether witnessed via the taut tension of "Some Men," reggae-splashed "Tell Me What You Want," or Motown homage "Looking for a Good Sign," the group's blend of dance vibes, electrifying hooks, keyboard loops, and sleek beats epitomizes seduction, style, and swagger. Private Eyes is an 80s juggernaut that hasn't lost a step. Utterly classic.

In 2014, Jackson Philips skipped the city of Angels and trekked north to the Bay Area after leaving Berklee School of Music. This is where he would create the Day Wave project. He has since received praise from The Los Angeles Times, Noisey, Consequence of Sound, Stereogum, The FADER, and many more in addition to early support from KCRW, Beats 1, Sirius Alt Nation, and XMU. His breakthrough single 'Gone' racked up over 6 million Spotify streams with 'Drag' following closely at over 5 million. 2 Steps From The Middle Ages

Packaging Includes Rare And Previously Unseen Photos From The Band's Photographer, Robert Toren

The Reissue Also Features Essays From Easter, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star), And Franklin Bruno (The Village Voice, Salon.com)

Their final studio album - remastered and expanded! Following up 1987's Lolita Nation (whose reissue appeared on numerous year-end "best of" lists for 2016) would be no easy task for Game Theory. But, Scott Miller and company were certainly up for the task.

Re-teaming with producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M., Marshall Crenshaw, Velvet Crush), 2 Steps From The Middle Ages was released in 1988 and showed the band had no shortage of energy, experimentation, and excellent material.

The first pressing of this LP reissue, on vinyl for the first time since its initial release, comes on translucent orange colored vinyl. Packaging includes rare and previously unseen photos from the band's photographer, Robert Toren, as well as essays from Easter, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star), and Franklin Bruno (The Village Voice, Salon.com).

The band's drummer, Gil Ray, who was involved in all aspects of the Game Theory reissue series including this title, sadly passed away earlier this year. This reissue is lovingly dedicated to him.

    The Big Come Up

2002 was a hell of a year for The Black Keys, the minimalist two-man blues-rock outfit from Akron, Ohio. They released their debut album The Big Come-Up on the tiny Alive label that year and garnered barely-contained raves in Rolling Stone, Spin, The Village Voice and MOJO. One listen to The Big Come Up, a startling raw slab of juke-joint blues, validates the band's rapid ascent from playing for no money on the bottom of the bill at Cleveland's Beachland Tavern to selling out blistering headline dates and being invited to open for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and elder Ohio statesmen Guided By Voices. Their vintage concoction of Dan Auerbach's genuinely fine, powerful blues vocals and busy reverb soaked guitar riffing mixed with Patrick Carney's earthy drumming is what makes The Big Come Up a cool and raunchy electric blues record with a vigor and imagination that's way fresher than any standard bar band blues-rockers with slicker execution and pencient for blues cliches. Volume One

She & Him is a story of musical serendipity: two artists, each renowned in their own creative fields, meet and recognize a certain shared nostalgia. The result is destined to be one of the musical highlights of the year.

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward first met to record a version of Richard and Linda Thompson's When I Get To The Border for a movie soundtrack. Immediately struck by one another's talents and finding an instant rapport Zooey let slip that she wrote her own songs which she recorded alone at home on her computer. Somewhat shy about anyone hearing these musical morsels she eventually sent the demos to Ward who was instantly impressed. They soon reconvened at his Portland studio to begin work.

Embracing the warm sound of early analog recordings, Volume One is more than just a showcase for Zooey's rich and endearing voice; it's a distinctive and endlessly charming album. The songs themselves give a respectful nod to the likes of Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt and The Zombies while Ward's production gives them just the right amount of golden era sheen. Whether Zooey's channeling Ronnie Spector as on I Was Made For You or joining Ward in turning The Beatles I Should Have Known Better into a seductive hula guitar duet, the results are always captivating.

    Here Anonymous (Discontinued)

Eulogies' songs struggle with broken-down communication, the weight of bad habits, the fear of being alone. That universal struggle is presented here on Here Anonymous with a directness that's both stark and beautiful. With Chris Reynolds on drums, Tim Hutton on bass, plus Peter Walker on guitar and vocals, Eulogies renders vivid scenes with a minimalist palette. Written during a Fall 2007 U.S. tour with Film School, the songs on Here Anonymous are deceivingly simple. Riding warm, well-worn instrumental tones and Walker's patient, understated vocals, they build a consistent mood over the album's 12 songs.

Walker continually shifts tempos and instrumentation and brings along the occasional guest. 'Two Can Play' opens with a gorgeous, dreamy groove, and soon Walker and Nikki Monninger of Dangerbird bandmates Silversun Pickups are finishing each other's soft-sung verses. The haunting organ sound on 'Stranger Calliope' was achieved via a Casiotone keyboard layered over a live flautist. Songs build momentum from one to the next with meticulous track sequencing; drama is evoked not through volume or intensity but subtle counterpoints in composition. There's a gentle, knowing tension to the music that speaks to the bittersweet push and pull of everyday living and dying.

The result is melancholy music that's upbeat, a record of specific personal intent that speaks to us all. Eulogies offers catharsis; a musical tradition that's ageless and inviolate. Here Anonymous snatches a moment out of that continuum for us to share, here and now. Limited Edition Double 12 Vinyl signed and numbered by Peter Walker. Vinyl also packaged with a digital album download.

    Brazilliance (Pure Pleasure)

More than seven years before Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd introduced the bossa nova of Antonio Carlos Jobim to American audiences, guitarist Laurindo Almeida and altoist Bud Shank (in a quartet with bassist Harry Babasin and drummer Roy Harte) recorded the intriguing music heard on this LP. The performances are very close to bossa nova in their combination of cool-toned jazz and Brazilian rhythms; in fact, these are arguably the first bossa nova recordings, long before even Jobim and Joao Gilberto initially recorded. Only four of the 14 tunes are not based on Brazilian folk songs, and many of the songs (particularly Carinoso) are quite memorable. This historically significant, very accessible, and highly recommended release is a gem.

    Musicians:

    • Laurindo Almeida (guitar)

    • Bud Shank (alto saxophone)

    • Harry Babasin (bass)

    • Roy Harte (drums)

    Recording: 1954

    Production: Richard Bock

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Shame Shame

There was this feeling inside me going into making this record that we'd never made an album before, says guitarist/vocalist Scott McMicken of Dr. Dog's Shame, Shame, their Anti-debut and the first album made outside the safe confines of their home studio. Having evolved from a band whose primary creative outlet was the album making process into one that favored the energy of their live performances, they knew they wanted to document the new dynamic they had developed on the road. Producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith) was brought in to help peel back the intricate arrangements of last album Fate to reveal the raw immediacy of a tight five-man unit honing their craft.

Dr. Dog has created a song cycle of doubt and despair, bookended with the woozily swirling harmonies of Leaman's lonely opener Stranger and the harsh self-critique of the title track, a gnarled admission that sometimes it's best to admit your mistakes and move on. Their most openly autobiographical release, ranging from McMicken's exploration of West Philly underlife in Shadow People to his account of two soul-bearing late night conversations in Jackie Wants a Black Eye, Shame, Shame is an album whose dark themes are soothed by bright harmonies, taut guitar riffs, and soaring melodies. Shame, Shame is the release that will announce Dr. Dog to a wider world, a world waiting for the timeless songwriting and melodies of their finest album.
