#1 1981 Album Teems With Hits: Urgent, Waiting for a Girl Like You, Juke Box Hero
Foreigner's Most Consistent, Economical, and Cleanly Produced Record
Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Sonics Open Window to Mutt Lange's Direct Production
Be A Juke Box Hero: Sound Will Rattle Your Walls and Shake Your Windows!
Want to be a juke box hero? Heres your chance. Featuring Mutt Langes spotless production, contributions from Motown legend Junior Walker and new-wave icon Thomas Dolby, no less than three huge singles, and Foreigners most economical performances, 4 is classic-rock nirvana, a model of crystalline pop-rock melodies and lighter-flicking balladry. More than six million copies later, the 1981 record is still rightly discussed as a front-to-back masterpiece of precision, power, and economy. Its an album that demands to be experienced in the highest-possible fidelity.
Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys 180g LP presents 4 in a room-filling, stadium-big sound that simply crushes whats heard on all prior versions. Replete with energetic rockers such as Urgent, Night Life, and Woman In Black, the record benefits from a sonic facelift that opens up the previously compressed dynamics, expands the dimensions of the soundstage, dials in a clear path to the instrumental images, and erases the ceiling that pressed down on Lou Gramms superhuman vocals. For the first time, Langes obsessive, detail-oriented production can be enjoyed in all its splendid glory.
Fresh off blockbuster success with AC/DCs Back In Black, Lange uses his magic touch on 4, pairing with guitarist Mick Jones who, armed with the best batch of riffs of his career, shared a the producers sentiment for discipline, efficiency, and cleanliness. And so, on crisp tunes like Break It Up, pianos and hard-hitting guitars share the same space without ever impinging on one another or overstepping boundaries. The winning formula also propels Top 5 hits like the wildly funky Urgent, sent to new heights by Walkers dazzling saxophone solo, and the touching Waiting for a Girl Like You, a crossover smash that introduced Foreigner to soft-rock and adult-pop audiences.
Simply stated, 4 has everything: Rowdy frustration-releasing cuts, fiery rock n roll tunes, heartfelt torch songs, and synth-drenched pop numbers. The playing throughout positively smokes, as the one-two punch of Gramm and Jones lands with both emotional and musical impact every time. There's not a single wasted note. And, reduced to a quartet, Foreigner seems bent on making more with less, just as Lange does with the polished production. This is 42 minutes of hard-rocking bliss.
Accept no substitute. Mobile Fidelitys collectible audiophile edition will rattle your walls and shake your windows. Be prepared to tap every reserve available from your amplifiers. And play it LOUD!

OVSE-MOV-1278xStone Temple Pilots
4 is the fourth album released by American grunge rockers Stone Temple Pilots, released in 1999. The album was a return to the band's earlier Hard Rock roots, while also blending elements of Heavy Metal, Psychedelic Rock, and Alternative Rock.
Despite the lack of promotion due to singer Scott Weiland's one-year jail sentence shortly before the album's release, No. 4 was certified Platinum by the RIAA in 2000. The song Down was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at the Grammy Awards. The album also produced one of STP's biggest hits, Sour Girl, which charted at #78 on the Hot 100, their only song to appear on that chart.
No.4 displays a deliberate effort by the band to return to a more Hard Rock-oriented sound featured on its first two albums. Allmusic cited the album as STP's hardest effort since Core, remarking that it's as if STP decided to compete directly with the new generation of alt-metal bands who prize aggression over hooks or riffs. Stephen Erlewine also wrote that No.4 consolidates all [of STP's] strengths.1. Down

Phase 1180 Gram Audiophile Pressed At RTI

Faithful Reproduction Of The Original Artwork
Mike Condello did it all in four decades in the music business: serve as music director for two local Phoenix TV shows (Teen Beat and The Wallace & Ladmo Show), lead his own bands like Hub Cap and the Wheels, parody the Beatles with Commodore Condello's Salt River Navy Band, and even play with luminaries like Keith Moon, the Tubes, and Jackson Browne. In 1968, he also led his own band - which released the psychedelic masterwork Phase 1 on Scepter Records. Featuring a young Bill Spooner (pre-Tubes) on guitar, the album flows and trickles through your mind with more saturation than Lucy and her diamonds in the sky - picking up a few nuggets, boulders, and pebbles in the emergent violet haze. The phases of this pricey rarity - mastered from the original analog reels and pressed on lush 180 gram vinyl by RTI - are guaranteed to put your mind into a psychedelized headswirl trip that you'll want to take again and again.1. 2, 3, 4This unique session contains five selections from a date featuring the great tenor Coleman Hawkins, pianist Hank Jones, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Shelly Manne. Both Take the 'A' Train and Cherokee find the group at times playing two tempos at once and showing that they had heard some of the avant-garde players. The most swinging piece, Avalon, was previously available only on a sampler while Me and Some Drums features Hawkins and Manne in a very effective duet with the veteran tenor making his only recorded appearance on piano during the first half. The set is rounded out by a pair of trio features for Eddie Costa (with Duvivier and Manne); one song apiece on vibes and drums. A very interesting set with more than its share of surprises.

4 Your Eyez OnlyJ. Cole's fourth album arrived exactly two years after 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Told in the first person, most of its tracks trace the life trajectory of Cole's slain friend, as someone who dealt drugs, changed course after falling in love, and died at the age of 22. Cole also draws from some aspects of his own life. One track regards an unjustified SWAT raid on a house he rented for recording, leaving him feeling targeted, Even when the president jam your tape. There's a moment of levity and sweetness throughout Foldin Clothes, where Cole enthusiastically handles some domestic duties, while the two parts of She's Mine regard, respectively, his wife and daughter.
Most moving and forthright is the closing title track, nine minutes of grimly focused reflections from multiple vantage points. Cole's predominant scarred yet resolute feeling, perfectly conveyed in his downward, furrowed gaze in the album's promotional images, is likewise reflected with the productions. Mostly slow and nuanced, cooked up with a crew of well over a dozen co-producers, they involve instrumental help from the likes of trumpeter Theo Croker, guitarist Steve Lacy of the Internet, and keyboardist Masayuki Hirano.

Old No. 1Guy Clark's debut from 1975 is one of the all time classic country singer-songwriter records. By the time of its release the Texas native had been shopping his tunes in Nashville for a few years and the songs from Old No. 1 were already well aged and often covered. Regardless, though Clark considers himself more a songwriter than a recording artist, nobody holds a candle to these performances. From the rollicking Texas swing of opener Rita Ballou to the finger picked heartbreak of closer Let Him Roll there is not a stinker to be found. Deer Tick Vol. 1The best art often challenges widely held preconceptions about performance and beauty. We're moved when we find the sublime in the gross, entranced when crassness collides with grace. It makes poetic sense that one of this practice's finest current purveyors is named after a blood-sucking survivor.
Deer Tick: undercutting expectations since 2004.
I think a lot of my favorite artists have always done stuff like that, Deer Tick front man John McCauley says from his home in Nashville, reflecting on his band's love of unexpected mashups: tender lyrics layered over pissed off guitars; classical music flourishes delivered nearly naked and high. Deer Tick's perfected it all, mostly as an outlier, revered by a legion of fans, respected by peers, but not part of any one scene. With their highly anticipated new project(s), two new albums released simultaneously titled Deer Tick Vol. 1 and Deer Tick Vol.2, the crew from Rhode Island prove that their punk-roots rock has only gotten better with age.
Ambitious and smart, the twin albums complement one another but also stand independently.Vol. 1 is classic Deer Tick: folk-rooted acoustic guitars and soft piano cushion out-front vocals. Vol. 2 commits wholly to the band's longtime garage-rock flirtations for a triumphant foray into punk.
McCauley sees the two records as a natural progression. I think it's something that was bound to happen, just because I've always had one foot in each door, he says. Every album we've put out has had its manic moments in one way or another. I felt good enough about everything that I was writing to think that we could truly separate our two big interests: quiet and loud.
It's been four years since Deer Tick's last release Negativity, and devotees have grown restless. It wasn't that the band-made up of McCauley, guitarist Ian O'Neil, drummer Dennis Ryan, and bassist Christopher Ryan-was withholding information. They just weren't sure they had anything more to share. It wasn't anything that we actually talked about, McCauley says. We never said, 'Hey, we should take a break,' or 'Maybe this isn't working anymore.'We just took some time off. We'd just done our 10-year anniversary shows, and I had a kid like two weeks later. He pauses before adding with a hint of a laugh, We just kind of got comfortable away from each other.
McCauley, O'Neil, and the two Ryans popped up solo and on others' projects. Personal lives also underwent massive changes, especially for McCauley, who married Vanessa Carlton and became a dad. The couple's little girl is now two years old. For the first time ever, Deer Tick-an all-consuming band known for constant touring and steady artistic output-took a backseat.
When the band came back together for their beloved after-party shows at the Newport Folk Festival, the reunion reminded them what they missed about creating with one another.Playing that week with the guys made me really want to do it-it made everyone want to do it, McCauley says. So we started making some plans to go in the studio.
The result, recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, is a bold double punch that reminds us not only why Deer Tick has been so missed, but why they've become important artists. The songwriting on both volumes is masterful. McCauley wrote most of the tunes alone, but O'Neil and Dennis Ryan also make killer contributions. Self-aware and never self important,McCauley excels at provocative lyrics that are sometimes confessional, sometimes accusatory. His compositions capture those internal contradictions that define us, like rock and-rollsongs of myself delighting in the multitudes and putting them on display.
Vol. 1 opener Sea of Clouds is a dreamy mediation on letting go, featuring stripped down instrumentation that swells into a mini-symphony, all anchored by angelic harmonies and McCauley's familiar melodic snarl. It's not the only time McCauley mulls over what it takes to move on. Heart-tugging Only Love mixes sadness and hope for a snapshot of impending loss. I thought, 'Nobody writes a song about that kind of weird, ominous feeling you get in the final 24 to 48 hours of a relationship,' McCauley says. I wanted to capture that mood ina song.
Sauntering Card House is a flamenco-soaked threat with grotesque imagery, while lounge readyCocktail is a wry, piano-fueled stroll through fond boozy memories. I guess it's kind of a song about my strange relationship with alcohol-I'm still learning how to deal with it,McCauley says. I'm not a teetotaler. I've tried that. It's not for me. I'm not into the support group thing. I enjoy life with a drink. Trying to keep my life in balance can be hard, but it's something I'm capable of doing now.
Tricky relationships with drugs and alcohol are addressed in different ways on both volumes.Hushed Vol. 1 closer Rejection pulses with vulnerability. I wrote it about trying to help somebody in some way, McCauley says. What was going through my mind but I didn't sayin the lyrics is just reaching your hand out to somebody who's going through substance abuse problems. Vol. 2's Jumpstarting-a favorite track of McCauley's-offers the same kind of lifeline: he shouts startlingly sweet promises over crunchy guitars.
Look How Clean I Am immediately follows. Written and sung by O'Neil, the song doesn't poke fun at sobriety but offers a droll takedown of how some use it as a means or marketing vehicle to further celebrity. It's one of many genuinely funny moments on the project. JumpingS.M.F., (aka Shitty Music Festival) written and delivered by McCauley, takes hilarious shots at a summer institution. I thought I'd write that one for any band who's ever had a bad time ata music festival. It's one of my attempts at humor on the record, but then it just kind of comes off as anger, McCauley says with a laugh.
McCauley wrote gorgeous instrumental Pulse thinking about the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting. He lets his piano do the talking. It's a Whale is punk perfection, all screams and growling guitars. That's probably the most political I'll ever get in a song, McCauley says. I tried to put myself in the really dark headspace of maybe a men's rights activist or something like that while trying to poke fun at it. His chants of Atta boy! Atta girl! are the ideal blend of smirk-inducing and scary.
McCauley says he believes Sea of Clouds and It's a Whale probably best capture theextremities of both records. He's right, of course: it's Vol. 1's quiet vs. Vol. 2's loud-Deer Tick's dual personalities, finally channeled onto two distinct and equally brilliant records. These albums represent a new phase of my life that I haven't entirely figured out yet,McCauley says. Dutch Courage: Vol. 1Live Zappa Broadcast Recorded In Rotterdam 1980
By 1980 Frank Zappa had endured one of the most turbulent periods of his career. The working relationship between Zappa and his long-time manager Herb Cohen had irreparably broken down due to disagreements over their jointly owned DiscReet label, and he had also parted ways with Warner Brothers after a dispute concerning the four disc LÄther project, and the label releasing his material against his wishes, which had resulted in multiple lawsuits.
Blocked from issuing his own music for over a year, Zappa's main source of income came from extensive touring which he did with a number of small, rock-oriented groups throughout the late 1970s.
Included here too as bonus cuts are a selection of tracks from the same tour - broadcast from Paris and Munich respectively - as well as an extended 1980 interview with Mike Siegel for Boston TV show 'Five All Night, Live All Night', in which a typically sarcastic yet droll Zappa answers questions from the host and the viewers about his family life, his recent legal troubles, and his latest releases. Making in completion a full 160-minute recording across two installments, in quite excellent audio quality throughout, this release will prove a delight for fans and a must have item to add to any decent Zappa collection.LP 1

Blind Joe Death Volume 1For several years major labels had been issuing records in both mono and stereo formats. By 1967 Takoma was doing well enough financially to justify the recording of Fahey's first and second albums for the burgeoning stereo market. Thus Vol.1: Blind Joe Death, as the record would be titled henceforth, was recorded for the third time and it is probably this release that most people are familiar with today. For the new version Fahey recorded all but one song on the album. He recorded one new track for the reissue: I'm Gonna Do All I Can for My Lord. His new take of the Episcopal hymn In Christ There Is No East or West would become the most well-known and oft-played song on the album.1. On Doing An Evil Deed Blues

The VPI Classic 1 turntable comes standard with the unipivot JMW-10.5i tonearm Special Edition in rigid mount mode, new VPI silver coated pure copper wire, a 2.5 thick plinth trimmed with real black oak or real solid walnut finish (at no additional cost), a solid mounted 600 RPM AC synchronous motor, new 2 thick machined aluminum platter, silent inverted bearing, and new isolator feet derived from the HR-X.
The sound of the Classic 1 turntable is fast, clean, wide open, with deep powerful bass, and unequalled in speed stability. The Classic 1 turntable gives any turntable made regardless of price a serious run for the money.
This completely new design has produced the simplest and one of the best sounding VPI tables to date.
VPI Classic Turntable Features:
Special Edition JMW-10.5i SE tonearm - By giving up vta on the fly adjustments, you get most of the sound of the highly reviewed JMW-10.5i tonearm. A new less expensive base and mounting saves hundreds of dollars but gives up little in sound.
New 6061 machined aluminum 18 pound high inertia platter with precision inverted bearing and stainless steel damping plate.
Speed stability on par with a master tape - Due to the rigid mounting of motor - platter - tonearm there is no random motion to cause speed instabilities.
Noise rejection allowing the Classic 1 turntable to sit on a wood shelf near four 15 subwoofers and having virtually no feedback.
Lack of random motion between the motor - platter - tonearm gives the ultimate in low level resolution. Not only does this rigidity improve speed stability, it also allows the retrievel of low level information challenging the world's great turntables and master tapes.

Other People's Songs Vol. 1Over the weekend of August 21-22, 2010, not long after Damien Jurado and Richard Swift first collaborated to produce Damien's 2010 record, Saint Bartlett, the pair hunkered down with a 4-track recorder and one Coles 4038 ribbon microphone to record a collection of cover songs that run the gamut from John Denver to Chubby Checker to Kraftwerk.
The timing was perfect. On Other People's Songs Vol 1, we can see the scaffolding of what would become a creative turning point for the pair - later seen with the release of Damien Jurado's Maraqopa, the first record in his Maraqopa trilogy - less than 2 years later. The opening drum hits of Be Not So Fearful, the falsetto vocals of Sweetness, and the Spaghetti-Western swing of Radioactivity are, by now, hallmarks of the Jurado/Swift sound, but Other People's Songs Vol 1 is a transitional fossil, a marking of the pair's collaborative evolution.1. Up at Minton's Volume 1This is a perfectly solid record featuring tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, guitarist Grant Green, pianist Horace Parlan, bassist George Tucker and drummer Al Harewood during a frequently exciting live set. Although recorded early in the careers of Turrentine and Green, both lead voices are easily recognizable with Green actually taking solo honors on several of the tracks. Standards and a couple of blues make up the repertoire, giving listeners a definitive look at the soulful Mr. T. near the beginning of his productive musical career.

Archive Series Volume No. 1
16 Previously Unreleased Early Home Recordings
Iron And Wine's 'Archive Series Volume No. 1' is the first in a
series - Sam Beam will be gathering otherwise unreleased
home recordings, covers, live sets, and curiosities from his
entire career as Iron And Wine and releasing them on his own
label - Black Cricket Recording Co.
This first release taps into a set of songs created before Sam
was Iron And Wine, when he was making music without the
public in mind. The songs on 'Volume No. 1' came to life at the
same time as those selected for Iron And Wine's debut album,'
The Creek Drank The Cradle' (Sub Pop, 2002, 197K Sales ToDate).
Performed and recorded at home on a 4-track cassette
- the songs on 'Creek' were only 11 of the many crafted by
Sam prior to his debut. Some of this material has been widely
bootlegged, but has never received a wide-spread or proper
'Archive Series Volume No. 1' collects 16 of these
unreleased early home recordings for the first time.
This initial chapter in the 'Archive Series' has been digitally
transferred from the original cassettes and packaged in
gatefold artwork featuring the Bird of Paradise Quilt (licensed
from the American Folk Art Museum).
