    Live At The Orpheum

    Import

200g super-heavyweight vinyl version limited to a single pressing.

Released to coincide with the 46th anniversary of King Crimson's formation in January 1969, Live At The Orpheum comprises performances from the band's critically acclaimed, sold-out 2014 US tour.

41 minutes of live material from the new seven piece King Crimson line-up, including classics such as Starless, Sailor's Tale and The Letters.

King Crimson has performed, recorded and released material in its own inimitable manner for the past 46 years. As the band enters its 47th year of operation in 2015, the occasion is marked with the first release culled from the band's Autumn 2014 US tour.

Comprised of 41 minutes of material by the newest incarnation of the band fronted by the line-up's formidable three drummer setup, Live At The Orpheum has been mixed from 24bit multi-track performances recorded at the band's two concerts at the Los Angeles venue. Featuring a mixture of new and old King Crimson material - some being performed live for the first time - the album makes an ideal
    recorded debut for the septet.

For those who travelled from all over the world to see the US shows, it's an opportunity to relive the power, precision and sheer musicality of the concerts. For those who couldn't attend but wanted to, it's an opportunity to hear why the concerts generated such excitement.

    Nice An' Cool

Part of the ultimate audiophile Prestige stereo reissues from Analogue Productions - 25 of the most collectible, rarest, most audiophile-sounding Rudy Van Gelder recordings ever made. All cut at 33 1/3.

All mastered from the original analog master tapes by mastering maestro Kevin Gray. 200-gram LPs pressed at Acoustic Sounds' state-of-the-art pressing plant, Quality Record Pressings, plated by Gary Salstrom

Deep groove label pressings, tip-on jackets on thick cardboard stock

A 1961 set of standards heavy on the ballads, Nice An' Cool is prime Gene Ammons. In front of a sympathetic piano-bass-drums trio (Richard Wyands, Doug Watkins, and the great J.C. Heard, respectively), Ammons' brilliantly soulful tenor saxophone really stretches out on the familiar melodies, but the relatively concise arrangements (all of the eight tracks are between three and eight minutes, with most hovering around the five-minute mark) don't allow him to wander too far afield as he occasionally does on less structured sessions. Nice An' Cool is first and foremost a mood album, with the unity of sound more important than the individual performances, but Ammons particularly shines on the extended opener, a tender, restrained version of The Music Man's Til There Was You that sidesteps the mawkishness of many interpretations in favor of a dignified grace. The backing trio is excellent throughout.

"One of the best efforts from Ammons' extensive catalog. A fat, warm, rich sax tone - you know, the one you immediately identify as Jug - is on display in all its glory on this great Moodsville release. Feeling tired and stressed out? Give Uncle Gene a spin. Besides perfect pitch, Ammons' other special gift was a melodic sense that allowed him to effectively convey feelings at slow tempos. Here is a great jazz ballad player given full scope to spin his charms. - Stereophile, February 1995

Eric Dolphy has sometimes been described as an iconoclast, but in Outward Bound, he was not overturning his idol, Charlie Parker; he was building on Bird's legacy. So deep was Dolphy's musicianship, so free his imagination, that he enchanted trailblazers like John Coltrane and Charles Mingus. Partnering in this collection with the brilliant trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and a stunning rhythm section, Dolphy is at a peak of energy and creativity on alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and flute. He and Hubbard work with empathy reminiscent of the young Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Pianist Jaki Byard, bassist George Tucker, and drummer Roy Haynes were ideal accompanists and co-conspirators in this widely influential work.

"The title could not have been more accurate. By 1962, Coltrane's leadership role was undeniable; he was a standard-bearer of musical commitment, and intense, bold exploration. As well, all four tunes on the album were truly 'standards': 32-bar tunes originally crafted for Broadway or Hollywood projects, adopted by jazz instrumentalists to interpret and explore. There's another meaning to be gleaned from the album's title. In 1958, when Coltrane recorded the tracks, he often favored melodies that had attained popularity during his teen years-familiar and unfamiliar alike-all in a search to find new structures and fresh inspiration. This indeed was standard Coltrane-in '58, and well into the '60s." - All Music Guide

Analogue Productions presents all six of the Doors studio titles on 200g 45RPM 2LP pressed at Quality Record Pressings as well as The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting For The Sun and L.A. Woman on Hybrid multi-channel SACD, all cut from the original analog masters by Doug Stax, with the exception being The Doors which was made from the best tape copy available.

These masters were recorded on all-tube equipment, and the tape machine used for the transfer of these releases is also a tube machine, as is the cutting system.

Although most of the material for their 1967 sophomore album was written around the same time as their debut which was released earlier in the same year, the songs on the genre-bending Strange Days still manage to possess their own distinct and foreboding character. The equally as impressive follow-up yielded the touchstone hits "Love Me Two Times" and "People Are Strange" as well as the the fan favorites "Moonlight Drive," "Strange Days" and "When The Music's Over." Legendary 2nd Show Cut from the Original Analog Masters by Bernie Grundman & Pressed on 200g Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience's performances at the Berkeley Community Theatre on May 30, 1970 have always been considered some of the prized live musical moments in Jimi Hendrix's storied career. Previously available in pieces and only as low quality bootlegs, the shows are even more cherished considering they were some of the music legend's last as he passed away a mere months later.

This sensational set finds Jimi in a trio setting with Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox tearing through definitive live takes of some of Hendrix's most beloved recordings in a bluesy style including Hey Joe, Machine Gun, Foxey Lady, Purple Haze, and Voodoo Child (Slight Return), not to mention a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner for good measure!

    Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week

The Icelandic avant-pop pioneers, the Sugarcubes' second record, Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week! was originally released in 1989 and it's rich in eccentric contrast and playful contradiction. Teaming the swooping vocals of lead singer Bjork and the spoken word agit-propisms of trumpeter Einer, is bizarre yet very well matched. Notable tracks include the calypso-tinged Tidal Wave, the barbed and jagged rhythms of Nail and the hyperactive A Day Called Zero.

    It's It (Awaiting Repress)

It's-It contains remixed versions of tracks from each of the Sugarcubes' three albums. Since emerging as a solo artist, Bjork has gone on to considerable acclaim with her remixes, however, at the time of its 1992 release, the notion of Sugarcubes remixes was unheard of. There's a lot to like here though, including two radically differing versions of the brilliant Birthday, the band's breakthrough single. Other standout cuts include a largely instrumental version of Motorcrash, a slower paced Regina, and an upbeat and looser Hit.

The Great Crossover Potential (Awaiting Repress)

The Sugarcubes truly sounded like nothing else in the late '80s/early '90s or anything that came before, creating an unusual hybrid of pop, dance and the avant-garde. The tongue-in-cheek titled, The Great Crossover Potential is the Sugarcubes' greatest hits collection, originally released in 1998 and it includes tracks from the group's first three albums, with no additional new tracks or remixes.

    Stick Around For Joy

The third, and last, Sugarcubes studio album, Stick Around For Joy was released in 1992 at the height of the first wave of alternative rock, and it's something of a departure for the band. The album offers more muscular straight-ahead rock than the Sugarcubes' previous releases, leaving most of their previous eccentricity to be delivered by Bjork's astonishing vocal range and the occasional spoken word intonations of Einer Orn.

    The Eye

One Little Indian's Direct Metal Masters Reissue Series!

Originally released in 1984, The Eye, was the debut album of the Icelandic post-punk group K.U.K.L. which featured Bjork and Einar Orn (pre-Sugacubes). The music here ranges widely from the wild, grotesque and deconstructionist punk rock of Assassin and Seagull to the almost danceable rhythm and church-like bells of Dismembered and several moments of exotic, oriental-styled fare.

    Holidays In Europe

One Little Indian's Direct Metal Masters Reissue Series!

1986's Holidays in Europe, was the third and final album released by the Icelandic post-punk group K.U.K.L. featuring Bjork and Einar Orn (pre-Sugacubes). This album was more complex in comparison to the The Eye, with the folksy and pseudo-oriental flutes, bells and pipes of that previous album abandoned in favor of keyboards and samples here.

From The Original 1974 Analog Stereo Masters

Original Moon Records Jacket Art, Complete With The Original MN-100-A/B Matrix Etching

16"x22" Reproduction Of The First Rush Promo Poster

Three 5"x7" Lithographs Of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson And John Rutsey

A 12"x12" Rush Family Tree Poster

In March of 1974, Rush released their self-titled debut through the band's own indie label, Moon Records in Canada, and quickly sold out of the initial 3500 copies originally pressed. Moon Records would soon become Anthem Records, which launched in 1977, and continues to serve as the band's only Canadian record company.

To mark the band's 40-year recording career, Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) will celebrate with the vinyl reissue of the original Moon Records (pre-Mercury) release of Rush, as part of Universal's reDISCovered vinyl series. Housed in a sturdy, custom box with a lift-off top, this landmark album is pressed on 200g, audiophile grade vinyl, from the original 1974 analog stereo masters, cut to copper plates using the Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) process at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Rush also features the original Moon Records jacket art, complete with the original MN-100-A/B Matrix etching, and will include a 16"x22" reproduction of the first Rush promo poster, three 5"x7" lithographs of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and John Rutsey, and a 12"x12" Rush Family Tree poster.

Featuring the band's original line up, Lee, Lifeson and Rutsey, Rush's eponymous 1974 debut features eight hard- hitting rockers including "Finding My Way," the fast-paced "Need Some Love," "Take A Friend," "What You're Doing," the southern rock vibe of "In The Mood," and their U.S. breakthrough anthem "Working Man" which was made famous by Cleveland, Ohio's WMMS radio station. Other tracks include the more melodic "Here Again" and the atmospheric "Before and After," which gradually builds into a burst of power chords and heavy guitar riffs.

"Recorded for Prestige's Bluesville subsidiary in 1960, Lightnin' is among the rewarding acoustic dates Lightnin' Hopkins delivered in the early '60s. The session has an informal, relaxed quality, and this approach serves a 48-year-old Hopkins impressively well on both originals like 'Thinkin' 'Bout an Old Friend' and the familiar 'Katie Mae' and enjoyable interpretations of Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee's 'Back to New Orleans' and Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup's 'Mean Old Frisco.' Hopkins' only accompaniment consists of bassist Leonard Gaskin and drummer Belton Evans, both of whom play in an understated fashion and do their part to make this intimate setting successful. From the remorseful 'Come Back Baby' to more lighthearted, fun numbers like 'You Better Watch Yourself' and 'Automobile Blues,' Lightnin' is a lot like being in a small club with Hopkins as he shares his experiences, insights and humor with you." - All Music Guide

    Time Out

Virtually all serious and even casual music lovers ought to be familiar with, or at least are likely to have heard The Dave Brubeck Quartet, even without realizing it - for the quartet's best-known hit "Take Five" has graced the soundtracks of multiple films, including "Mighty Aphrodite," "Pleasantville" and "Constantine."

The piece is famous for its distinctive, catchy saxophone melody, as well as its use of unusual 5/4 time - so distinctive, it's a rare jazz track that became a pop hit.

Including the monster hit "Take Five," the Brubeck Quartet's Time Out is a jazz and audiophile classic. Every album collection needs a copy. And now, cut at 45 RPM on 200-gram premium vinyl, pressed at Quality Record Pressings, Analogue Productions brings you the definitive copy.

Why definitive? The dead-quiet double-LP, with the music spread over four sides of vinyl, reduces distortion and high frequency loss as the wider-spaced grooves let your stereo cartridge track more accurately. But it's more than just the vinyl that makes this release so special. For the first time in its history, Time Out is presented here packaged in a deluxe gatefold jacket. Inside are eight fantastic black and white images shot during the recording session at Columbia's famous 30th Street Studios.

The jacket is also special - very heavy-duty. It's produced for us by Stoughton Printing featuring a printed wrap mounted to a heavyweight chipboard shell, producing an authentic "old school" look and feel. This jacket is a beauty! Never has Time Out's colorful iconic cover art looked so vibrant.

The record label's sales executives didn't want a painting on the cover when Time Out debuted in 1959 on Columbia Records, Brubeck told an interviewer. An entire album of originals? That wouldn't work either, he was told. Some standards and some show tunes were needed in the mix. Fortunately, Brubeck ignored the conventional wisdom and Time Out became the original classic we know it as today. Brubeck became proof that creative jazz and popular success can go together.

The album was intended as an experiment using musical styles Brubeck discovered abroad while on a United States Department of State-sponsored tour of Eurasia. In Turkey, he observed a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song that was played in 9/8 time, a rare meter for Western music.

Paul Desmond, who was Brubeck's alto saxophonist, wrote "Take Five," at Brubeck's urging to try and write a song in quintuple (5/4) time.

"I told Paul to put a melody over (drummer) Joe Morello's beat," Brubeck explained. As a jazz pianist, Brubeck became a household name in jazz in part due to Time Out's success. Demond's cool-toned alto and quick wit fit in well with Brubeck's often heavy chording and experimental playing. Morello and bassist Gene Wright completed the group. The Quartet traveled and performed constantly around the world until breaking up in 1967 to pursue other musical ventures.

Time Out peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard pop albums chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Take Five" became a mainstream hit, reaching No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 5 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey, the precursor to today's Adult Contemporary charts. The song was included in countless movies and television soundtracks and still receives significant radio play.

In 1947, Sir Eugene Goossens gave the first performance of this composition that documents the Australian Aboriginal dance known as a Corroboree. In 1960, Goossens and the LSO recorded for Everest this magnificent, possibly the best ever performance of Corroboree, even better than the famous EMI recording of the same piece from 1977. Quiet Kenny is yet another reminder of what a trumpet giant Kenny Dorham was. Whether limning ballads such as My Ideal, Alone Together, I Had the Craziest Dream, and Old Folks, or investigating the timelessness and intricacies of the blues (his originals in this set with Blue in their titles), the former Charlie Parker cohort and ex-Jazz Messenger exhibits his subtle swing, personal sound, and finely-honed harmonic sense. Along the way these reflections and connections with Bird, Coleman Hawkins, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, Harry James, and Louis Armstrong make for a rich legacy. With Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers and Arthur Taylor

Reminiscent of the great Rickie Lee Jones, the fresh voice and stream of consciousness story telling of Lorna Hunt grabbed Classic's attention in 1998 and the results on this 2LP set surely show you why. Recorded live to 2-track analog at the ambient Lompoc Theater by Paul duGre (Leo Kottke, Dave Alvin, Los Lobos), Lornas voice and guitar is backed by Danny Frankel on percussion, Greg Liesz and pedal steel, electric guitar, mandolin and weisnborn, Dave Jackson an accordion and Dave Pilch on bass. Features photography by legendary lens man William Claxton. Available on Classic Records Clarity SV-P II 200g vinyl.

    Production notes:

Clarity Vinyl represents the ultimate in vinyl formulations because it is comprised of over 90% percentage of the highest quality co-polymer available - a key component in vinyl pellets used for manufacturing vinyl records. Further, Clarity Vinyl has no carbon black additive, common in vinyl formulas for LPs. Carbon Black contains trace metals that become magnetized and cause electrical distortions in cartridges during playback that smears the sound. By taking out the Carbon Black, Classic Records is able to dramatically reduce the electrical distortions and thus bring more Clarity to the playback process, providing a more realistic musical experience to the listener and LP enthusiast.

Part of The Doors reissue series proudly presented by Analogue Productions and Quality Record Pressings!

Sax and the Doors producer/engineer Bruce Botnick have gone through a meticulous setup to guarantee a positively stunning reissue series. These masters were recorded on all-tube equipment, and the tape machine used for the transfer of these releases is also a tube machine, as is the cutting system.

The Doors mined new territory with their 1969 release, The Soft Parade incorporating brass, strings and even a full orchestra into the mix, albeit with the same results as it became their fourth Top 10 album in a row. The album climbed all the way to #6 on the strength of the huge hit Touch Me. Here on 200g 45RPM 2LP.

This third Orbison release came on the heals of Lonley and Blue and
Crying and includes the hits Blue Bayou and All I have to do is Dream.
This Bill Porter recording directly onto two track stereo offers two
perspectives - mono from a fold of the discreetly recorded stereo channels
and a stereo presentation directly from the master. Porter intended the
recording to be presented in Mono and as such recorded the stereo channels
discreetly so that the blend in combining (mixing) the two tracks makes for
a perfectly layered musical presentation which supports Orbison's
astonishing vocal exquisitely. This is a must have record from the original
2 track master tape mixed into mono and cut on Classic's pure Mono
(horizontal cutting only) all tube cutting system by Bernie Grundman.
