    Live 81-82

Few bands were as cataclysmic, chaotic, and iconoclastic as Australia's Birthday Party. And while they spawned a few imitators (most notably Bogshead, Scratch Acid, and the short-lived batcave movement), their fractured sound and aura of wickedness were so far removed from the norm of early-'80s rock music that no group even came close to duplicating their murderous persona and manic, driving racket.

Live 1981-82 collects 17 tracks from concerts in London, Germany, and Greece, and for a band whose music seemed to cling to sanity by the most delicate of threads, these recordings are surprisingly coherent and faithful to the album versions.

Taking into account the barrage of feedback, the pile-driving bass, and singer Nick Cave's howling, the sound is also quite good (the only exception being the single cut from Greece, a cover of the Stooges Funhouse).

As for the performances, the band is in excellent form. Cave delivers the songs with conviction and energy, punctuating them with his startling vocabulary of shiver-inducing screams, grunts, snorts, groans, and growls. Considering the schizophrenia that was so much a part of the band's music, Cave's ability to convincingly deliver his gut-wrenching angst is nothing short of remarkable.

While Cave's Manson-meets-Morrison persona drew most of the attention, it was the Birthday Party's ability to swing--hard--that put them over the top. Drummer Phil Calvert is a beacon in the sea of chaos as guitarists Mick Harvey and Roland S. Howard disembowel their guitars, blasting shards of jazz and blues across the horizon. The late bassist Tracy Pew is the real revelation. Rock solid and never missing a beat, Pew emerges as the constant amidst the wreckage, providing the rich base from which these bad seeds sprung.

Live 1981-81 is a near-perfect document of one of rock's most extreme, creative, and dangerous forces.

Doolittle 25: B-Sides, Peel Sessions And Demos

First released in 1989 and Doolittle was
the second Pixies album, but the first to
be made available in the US. An instant hit
with both critics and fans, its slow burn
success has since helped it to sell close to
a million copies in the US alone.

Among the praise thrown Doolittle's way, Pitchfork ranked it at Number 4 in their
Best Albums of the 80s poll, while NME
writers in 2004 named it their second best
album of all time. 2009 saw the band tour
the album to celebrate its 20th birthday
and 5 years on, they've decided it's now
time to give it the deluxe release treatment
    it deserves.

The vinyl version tracklisting includes the
B-sides, the Peel Sessions and the album
demos being pressed on to two pieces of
180g black vinyl. Again, this comes with
new art from Vaughan Oliver which is different to CD art.

Stars And Topsoil: A Collection 1982-1990

Available for the first time on vinyl, the Cocteau Twins retrospective Stars And Topsoil: A Collection 1982-1990 is the first ever collection of the best of their 4AD years. Following their ascent from alternative novices to universally acclaimed artists, Stars and Topsoil is a true testament to one of the most original bands to emerge in the last two decades. Over a career at 4AD that spanned six albums and seven EPs, the Cocteau Twins retained an intriguing uniqueness of style that defied comparison. This chronological collection is a fitting reminder of why the Cocteau Twins are so important, musical visionaries who transcended convention yet achieved massive international success.

    Pom Pom

Across its 17 tracks and 69 minutes, pom pom is unfiltered Ariel Pink,
featuring infectious tales of romance, murder, frog princes and Jell-O.
The record sees the Los Angeles native strike it out alone, returning to
the solo moniker he has adopted for well over a decade.

From demented kiddie tune collaborations with the legendary Kim Fowley (songs such as 'Jell-O' and 'Plastic Raincoats In The Pig Parade' were
written with Fowley in his hospital room during his recent battle with
cancer), to beatific, windswept pop ('Put Your Number In My Phone',
'Dayzed Inn Daydreams'), scuzz-punk face-melters ('Goth Bomb', 'Negativ Ed'), and carnival dub psychedelia ('Dinosaur Carebears'), pom pom
could very well be Ariel Pink's magnum opus.

Speaking about the record, Ariel says that "although this is the first
"solo" record credited to my name, it is by far the least "solo" record I
    have ever recorded."

    The Pink Opaque

Back in 1986, The Pink Opaque brought together the best of the Cocteau Twins' early works to become their first official release in the US. Already a cult band on college radio, some classics like "Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops" and "Aikea-Guinea" were given new mixes for this release, while it also featured "Millimillenary," the first run out for incoming band member Simon Raymonde. To this day, it remains a great entry point to a wonderful band.

    Bridge

The second of the band's eponymous albums of 1993 and with a bridge on the cover to give it it's unofficial title, this set was shorter, collecting eight more tracks from the studio sessions the band embarked on upon signing to 4AD. Holding back signature classics like 'Evil', 'Uncle Joe' and 'Blindfold' for this record, it's arguably
the most experimental and darkest of their 4AD releases, reflecting the winter month it was released in. It's also notable for containing the first "Kozeleked" cover versions, with 'I Am A Rock' and the 'Star Spangled Banner' both getting his treatment.

Blue Bell Knoll is the fifth album by Cocteau
Twins. Originally released in 1988 by 4AD in the UK
and Capitol in the US, Pitchfork listed this album
as one of the best albums of the 80s. This was the
band's first full studio album to be released in
the US via a distribution deal with Capitol. The
album marked a turning point for the band. Robin
Guthrie stated ""At first you're just trying to make
a record, and then you're trying to make a really
good record. And then you're trying to go further.... Blue Bell Knoll was a really important
record to me. It really sticks as one of my favorites. Perhaps not because of how it came out,
although it is quite listenable, but because of the
    experience of making it."

Heaven or Las Vegas followed in 1990, and the release was also via 4AD in the UK and Capitol in the
US. It was the band's last album for 4AD, and was
their most commercially successful possibly due
to Elizabeth Fraser's much more intelligible lyrics. Numerous publications declared it one of the
best albums of the 90s and Pitchfork called it "a
core of ungodly gorgeous songs that is every bit
as moving and relevant today as it ever was".

Both of these albums have been unavailable on
vinyl for some time. Heaven or Las Vegas has never
been commercially available in the US on vinyl,

Signed to 4AD in April 2013, SOHN is an English
musician, songwriter and producer based in
Vienna, Austria. Tremors is SOHN's debut album.

Informed by a rich legacy of electronic music, SOHN
creates a sound that blends his haunting vocals with
a backdrop of analogue drum machines and synths,
which makes nods to the past, but always forges
forward into the new. Aside from emphasising the
soulfulness of his voice, his lyrics expertly play with

    Future This

Running in at 10-tracks and 45 minutes, Future This commands your attention from start to finish. Opener and first single, Stay Gold, is a track written about doing what makes you happy, so immediate you could be forgiven for thinking theyve not been away. From there, the album is paced perfectly, with future live anthems (Rubbernecking, 1313, Jump Music), counterbalanced with a set of songs that show a more subtle side (Hit The Ground (Superman), Give It Up and title track Future This).

Each song has its own message, mostly positive, and help highlight Robbie Furze's progress as both a lyricist and singer. By the time you reach album closer, the mournful 77, its already demanding repeat visits. With graffiti a recurrent theme, the band wanted the finishing touches to Future This to lie with the celebrated artist KR (the man behind Krink), who by used his distinct paint style to give the albums sleeve a fresh update on the legacy of 4AD's record design. Future This sounds like an album theyve enjoyed making, showing they still have a hunger, are still delivering on that early promise and are always looking forward.

    The Vision

Stepping out of the shadows in 2007 when just sixteen years old, Jokers stock has risen dramatically since. Aided by him releasing de¬fining cuts like Digidesign, The Vision (Let Me Breathe) and Tron, he now finds himself thick in the recent resurgence of British elec¬tronic music.

With the world traveled and a deal with 4AD signed, hes finally ready to appease his waiting public and release his debut album, The Vision.

Slaughterhouse (Here Come The Lights) highlights the young producers maturing sound, continuing to playfully subvert pop conventions. The track also features a bombastic and memorable vocal performance from Silas from Turboweekend.

On the flip, My Trance Girl is a futuristic six-minute instrumental, more in line with what first hooked Joker fans; its muscular vintage-Sega aping synths and sharp drum snaps a nod to his roots in Bristols fecund dance music scene.

    Spiritchaser

Spiritchaser, Dead Can Dance's seventh album, was released in 1996 and was the final studio album the band released with 4AD (it was to be another 16 years until they reconvened to make their eighth, Anastasis). Again recording at Brendan's Quivvy Church in Ireland and as hinted at by the album's title, the band had moved their focus away from the traditional medieval and Eastern sound of their middle albums to work with African and Caribbean tribal rhythms. Still unmistakeably Dead Can Dance, percussion is at the forefront throughout Spiritchaser and despite contributions from Ronan O'Snodaigh, Renaud Pion, Lance Hogan, Robert Perry and Peter Ulrich on a few tracks, the album is mostly just Perry and Gerrard. In fine voice throughout, like their whole career's work, their strong singing remains the centerpiece.

    Mature Themes

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti is back with the new album, Mature Themes, the band's second album for 4AD and the official follow-up to their 2010 breakthrough album, Before Today. The first single from the album will be a cover of Donnie and Joe Emerson's Baby, which also features guest vocals from Dâm-Funk.

"Sonically, it's comparable," Pink says of the new work, 13 songs he's only recently penned. "There are definitely not any links to my lo-fi origins. It's so diverse but so different from anything I've done before. In a sense, its really the record I wanted to make back when I made Before Today, but couldn't due to pressures and different factors. We had time to let our hair down and try new things."

Pink was able to bring in a large cache of vocal melodies and song foundations he'd previously recorded to his new phone. "Getting my first Android phone changed my life," he explains. "I don't have to memorize everything. I can put ideas down on the fly and save them for a rainy day, which is something I never had the luxury of doing in the past. I've got this great talent for co-opting memories at random, this time I've got a hundred ideas on a moment's notice."

    Ocean Beach / Shock Me

Ocean Beach was originally released in 1995 and was to be the last record Red House Painters released on 4AD. Mostly performed by Mark on his own, the minimal, unornamented, reflective and semi-acoustic songs helped him to achieve the more personal album he aimed to record, capturing every sound as it happened. Out of print since, it's now been reformatted to become a double 12" LP so to also include the four-track Shock Me EP of 1994.

Zach Condon and his band Beirut will release their fourth album No No No via 4AD. Before Today

For the best part of a decade, Los Angeles native Ariel Rosenberg has been carving out some of the most intoxicating music going, a reclusive pop surrealist whose corroded productions have led to a cult following that has often been difficult to keep up with. Now signed to 4AD, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti are back with Before Today.

With roots going back as far as 1996, the West Coast act are as sublime as they are surreal with a sound loaded with hazy nostalgia and a fiercely experimental pop palette. From the Haunted Graffiti series (from which the full band's name is now derived), which featured the likes of Worn Copy (2005) and House Arrest (2006), Ariel Pink has established himself as one of the most prolific songwriters of his generation, a visionary producer in the vein of Joe Meek and Ariel's hero and previous collaborator, tape deck dilettante, R. Stevie Moore, creating a world through certain production touches.

    After The End

First gaining notoriety with the LPs Children of Desire' (2012),
which Pitchfork hailed for its "glistening and emotive, ear-bleeding noise
pop", and then Totale Nite (2013), which NME likened to "a
cultural jump-start" , Merchandise continue their ascent with their
highly-anticipated new album, After The End out on 4AD.

Drawing from too many places to be classified punk, they've certainly
been informed by it's ethics, earning all they've achieved. Still self-recording and producing their music, this time over a six month period
in the house they share in Tampa, After The End is a real achievement in
showing what bands can achieve themselves. The only outside influence
this time came when they enlisted mixing help from Gareth Jones, the
man famed for his work on Depeche Mode's Berlin Trilogy of 'Construction Time Again,' 'Some Great Reward,' and 'Black Celebration,' and
more recently Interpol, These New Puritans and Grizzly Bear.
