    Birth Of The Cool

    Capitol Records 75th Anniversary Vinyl

Birth of the Cool is a compilation album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, originally released in 1957 on Capitol Records. It compiles twelve tracks recorded by Davis's nonet for the label over the course of three sessions during 1949 and 1950.

Featuring unusual instrumentation and several notable musicians, the music consisted of innovative arrangements influenced by classical music techniques such as polyphony, and marked a major development in post-bebop jazz. As the title implies, these recordings are considered seminal in the history of cool jazz. Most of them were originally released in the 10-inch 78-rpm format and are all approximately three minutes long.

Upgrade to best possible turntable performance with convenient speed changeover through keypress!

The quartz regulation and filter circuit gives a far better speed stability for smooth and undisturbed motor operation. Speed Box S is compatible with a lot of Pro-Ject turntables (see list below).

    • Quartz-generated high precision electronic speed regulation with microprocessor control

    • Sound improvement through motor running smoothness

    • Clean power decoupled from mains interference

    • Allows electronic speed change 33 & 45 rpm

    • 78 rpm possible with optional accessory pulley

    • Suitable for all turntables with 16 volt AC motor, up to 3 watt max. power consumption

    • Metal case shields electronics from vibration and electromagnetic interference

    • Small size allows installation close to record player

    • DC power supply (< 1 watt standby power)

Turn Me Loose: Outsiders Of Old Time Music

Frank Fairfield curates another reissue of 78 RPM records - this time with the help of a few of his collector friends. The collection focuses on some of the most seldom acknowledged varieties of Anglo-American vernacular. You'll hear unusual, uncommon instrumentation and great fiddlers from California to Ohio, New Mexico to West Virginia. Forget Americana, this collection shows Anglo-American down-home music as it actually was and in many cases (although largely unrecognized) still is. With painstaking audio restoration by the great Michael Kieffer

Jack White presents his new album Lazaretto, released on Third Man Records/Columbia. Lazaretto inhabits an exciting place in White's expansive discography as the follow-up to 2012's gold-certified international #1 Blunderbuss, and was preceded by first single and title track ''Lazaretto.''

The aforementioned Blunderbuss was the first U.S. #1 album of Jack's storied career, also debuting at #1 in the UK, Canada, and, naturally, Switzerland. Blunderbuss was supported by an ambitious world tour featuring two backing bands, the all-male Buzzards and all-female Peacocks, notched up five GRAMMY nominations including Album of the Year, and dominated Best of 2012 lists, including being named MOJO's #1 album of 2012.

The Performance DC shares sophisticated technology with Clearaudio's award-winning Ovation and Concept turntables, placing it in the middle of this series of three turntables featuring outstanding sound, unmatched value and ease of use. The Performance DC's main composite chassis consists of a specific density wood core sandwiched between two massive anodized aluminum plates. A band of polished silver aluminum is wrapped around the plinth's core, giving the Performance DC an elegant and modern look. The powerful and smooth-running DC motor is mounted to the composite main chassis and is effectively decoupled for enhanced dynamic range. The motor and belt are hidden from view, protected from dust and UV. They drive a precision machined aluminum sub-platter coupled to a 40mm thick POM platter, supported by Clearaudio's patented CMB (Ceramic Magnetic Bearing). The Performance DC's 33, 45, and 78 rpm speeds are selected by blue illuminated buttons, ergonomically integrated into the front left of the chassis. Precision adjustability is possible for each speed via user-accessible trim pots. The Performance DC comes with Clearaudio's magnetic bearing Verify Carbon Fiber tonearm and its interchangeable armboard design can accommodate a variety of 9 inch tonearms including Clearaudio's Clarify, Magnify and Universal tonearms.

Newly Discovered Live & Studio Recordings From 1949-1958

In the Beginning features recordings of Wes Montgomery spanning the years from 1949 to 1958, the formative years when the six-string virtuoso was honing his craft in Southern Indiana. Since Wes Montgomery's passing in 1968, only two other albums of predominantly unreleased material have been released Willow Weep For Me (Verve 1968) and Echoes of Indiana Avenue (Resonance 2012). Resonance Records is pleased to introduce the third such archival offering with In the Beginning.
The project began life in the wake of Echoes of Indiana Avenue. Even before that release, Buddy Montgomery's widow Ann approached Feldman and Resonance founder George Klabin with the Turf Club, Missile Lounge, and jam session recordings, looking for a respectful home for this never-released music. Philip Kahl, a 22 year old Butler College student had access to the brothers and recorded them at the before mentioned places with a portable tape recorder. 'In the Beginning started out early as a project exclusively focusing on the recordings received from Ann & Buddy Montgomery and evolved into an early years collection. There hasn't been a release like this in Wes's discography until now', says producer Zev Feldman.
The 26-track collection will be available as 2-CD and 3-LP sets. These newly discovered live & studio recordings from 1949-1958, include a complete never-before-released 1955 Epic Records session produced by Quincy Jones, licensed from Sony Music Entertainment, newly discovered 78 RPM sides with Wes as a sideman recorded for Spire Records (1949), a live recording from the home of Ervena Montgomery, Indianapolis (1956), live recordings from the Turf Club (1956), the Missile Lounge (1958) in Indianapolis, and the C&C Music Lounge in Chicago (1957).

This is presented on 180-gram vinyl mastered by engineering legend, Bernie Grundman, & pressed on 12inch LPs at 33 1/3 RPM by Record Technology Incorporated (R.T.I.) in a hand-numbered slipcase with an 8-panel booklet, and collector postcards of unpublished photos. In the Beginning features extensive liner notes, and meticulously designed artwork that have become the label's trademarks. The release is attractively designed by Burton Yount. This release is made possible with the help of Robert Montgomery, Wes's youngest son, and the head of the Wes Montgomery Estate who signed on as associate producer for the project. Feldman says, 'This is another chapter of previously undiscovered Wes, one which aficionados couldn't have even hoped existed a few short years ago. Resonance is proud to present another chapter in the legacy of Wes Montgomery.'
