Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon's own acclaimed recordings proved to be a major force on the music scene for many
decades. His music transcended all genres of rock and pop music styles, fusing melodic landscapes with thought
provoking and somewhat controversial lyrical content during his successful reign on the album and radio charts.
After reaching platinum heights with his very popular Excitable Boy LP (Friday Music 9006), his amazing follow-up album Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School hit the rock charts again thanks to the remake of The Yardbirds classic
A Certain Girl as well as his smash collaboration with Bruce Springsteen on Jeannie Needs a Shooter.
The twelve track masterpiece is loaded with some even more time honored Warren Zevon classics like the rockers Play It All Night Long, Wild Age and Junglework, as well as melodic ballads like Empty-Handed Heart featuring his
superstar friend Linda Ronstadt on vocals, plus his collaboration with T-Bone Burnett on Bed of Coals.
The Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School sessions featured the musical talents of not only Warren Zevon but his
superstar friends like Jackson Browne, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Don Felder from The Eagles, David
Lindley, J.D. Souther and the aforementioned songstress Linda Ronstadt.
This Warren Zevon masterpiece has been out of print on vinyl now for over two decades, however, Friday Music
is now very honored to announce the first time 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl limited edition of Warren Zevon's classic

After leaving school at 17, Gary Go worked at a string of record companies and recording studios, like Eurythmic Dave Stewarts Artist Network. Go even interviewed for a job at Peter Gabriels Real World Studios, but was told by Gabriel himself that maybe he should concentrate on songwriting. Luckily, Go took his advice. Do What Comes NaturallySome people call it a vibe and some people call it a groove. We call it boogie soul. It's the sound of HANDSOME JACK on their new album "Do What Comes Naturally". Produced by Zachary Gabbard of the BUFFALO KILLERS and featuring Bob Nave (of the legendary Lemon Pipers) on hammond organ, among others, the music of this album seamlessly flows through deep dark mid-tempo boogies, smoky upbeat burners, and soulful feel-good rockers all with a natural ease. HANDSOME JACK hails from Buffalo NY and began as a blues garage rock band. After high school they moved out of the garage and developed their sound into a natural soulful boogie mthat remains rooted in raw blues. They've shared the stage with The Sheepdogs, Blue Cheer, Gov't Mule, J. Geils, The Hold Steady, and Robert Randolph to name a few.1. Echoes

InjusticiaProducer and guitarist Jacob Plasse has united some of his old friends-players from the Daptones, Pedrito Martinez Group, and Los Hacheros-to form Peliroja, a New York collective inspired by the sounds of Ethiopia, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and the Congo. Injusticia is their debut album.
"Some of the musicians in Peliroja and I would meet up after school on Jane Street in the West Village, at a stoop with some Old English, a spliff, and a tape deck," says Jacob, best known as producer and musician for salsa masters, Los Hacheros. "We were gangly, awkward 15-year-olds and not cool by any means. I'm not sure how we became obsessed with obscure '70s funk and Afrobeat music, but that's what we would listen to: the 3 Sounds, Lyn Collins, Africa 70." Two decades later, his friends have gone on to become key players in the Brooklyn funk scene, and Jacob has spent the last ten years refining his music on the road with salsa and bachata bands.
Produced and cowritten by Plasse, Injusticia was recorded live to tape at his studio in Brooklyn, in the spirit of the music he was raised on. The groove to this music is deep and heard in the way the Daptones' rhythm section-drummer Homer Steinweiss and bassist Nick Movshon-play off the polyrhythms of Carlos Padron's timbales and Jhair Salas's congas, forming a new fusion of old sounds. Jainardo Batista's vocals soar over these rhythms, propelled forward by Mike Eckroth's mercurial arrangements.
"I think the experience of growing up in New York and getting to hear and play with all these wonderful musicians and having them in my life has let me create something that is true to myself, and hopefully them as well," Jacob adds. "This album is for those boys on the stoop who hadn't figured out how to be in this world, but were lucky enough to know what they loved."

Make Your Own Danger (Discontinued)Born in Kharkov, Ukraine, Alina Simone came to the US as a daughter of political refugees after her father refused recruitment by the KGB and was blacklisted. Raised in the suburbs of Massachusetts, she moved to Austin, Texas after graduating from art school and started off singing in the doorway of an abandoned bar on Sixth Street. She quickly became known for her sparse instrumentation and raw and powerful delivery. After the release of her debut album, Placelessness (2007), Simone earned both national airplay and critical acclaim. Her 2008 album, Everyone is Crying Out to Me, Beware, covered the music of Yanka Dyagileva, the late Siberian folk-punk icon.

RIPJDS (EP)Bikini is Nigel Diamond and Olivier Olivier. Their music is like Salinger on MDMA. Diamond is originally from Miami and Olivier was classically trained at the Royal Conservatory.
Olivier Olivier is the son of the late Indian poet Fateh Bains and moved to Canada where he attended Glen-Lyon Norfolk School, a school chosen for its musical program affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music. It was here Olivier met Nigel Diamond, who was sent down after he was expelled from his previous school.
It wasnt until after Glen-Lyon Norfolk that the two began to make music together. Olivier composes all the melodies in the fall of each year, drawing his inspiration from the poetry he writes during the summer. He records vocals, exports all his drafts without titles or form to Diamond. Diamond spends the following spring arranging Olivier's melodies, rhythm sequences and vocal treatments, adding his own lines. The result is a finished record. Nothing is sent back to Olivier. The songs are then sent from Diamond to be mastered and released.1. (((()))) Diamonds Departure

OlogyThe push-and-pull that drives Gallant's music is like a pendulum swinging back and forth between genres and influences. His combination of muscular vocal acrobatics and sonic unpredictability has attracted universal tastemaker praise and a growing fan base. Complex championed the Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter as The R&B game changer, LA Times claimed, Precise writing of Frank Ocean, big vocal runs of Sam Smith, and NME predicted, the voice that will redefine R&B, while Entertainment Weekly, The Fader, Billboard, and more have shown support. Sir Elton John summed it up best saying, Gallant is gonna be huge.
Gallant has been on this pursuit since junior high. Growing up in Columbia, MD, he began tinkering on his computer and making songs after school inspired by everything from nineties R&B to classic jazz and blues. Rather than write in a journal, the music collated his feelings and emotions. He'd rarely share it with friends though. While attending NYU, he enrolled in summer school, so he could graduate early. Post-graduation and countless hours of meticulous practice later, he was finally ready to share his songs to the world at large.
His first online release If It Hurts would establish him in the blogosphere, while 2014's Zebra EP landed him on Spotify's viral charts and at the top of HypeM. Signing to Mind of a Genius in 2015 and relocating to L.A., he dove into creating what would become Ology with co-producers such as Stint. The first single Weight In Gold enjoyed its world premiere on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show as the introductory entry in the coveted World's First segment. In less than six months, it accumulated over 6.5 million Spotify streams.
As Gallant continues on his search, he leaves a message on the path. If people can hear I'm not doing this to feed any ego or serve someone else, that's all I want, he leaves off. I'm trying to create a photo album I can look back on to see where I've overcome challenges. I'm using music as a means of self-discovery. If my songs help somebody do the same thing or realize art can help us improve ourselves, I'd be honored.LP 1

" Twin Peaks have perfected the kind of songwriting that puts you in a practiced, happy headlock."
"The Chicago teenagers who make up the band Twin Peaks make a confident old-school indie rock chug that should be beyond their years."
"Although steeped in the amp-shattering sensibilities of a garage band, the triumphant Sunken listens like a sunny pop record. It's lovably fuzzy, worn with the character of beloved jukebox hits."
- Consequence of Sound
Don't bother asking Twin Peaks about the deeper meaning of their band name. They simply thought it sounded cool, which explains why their second album Wild Onion isn't as spooky or surreal as David Lynch's short-lived TV show. It's more like a modern day Nuggets, with Ty Segall, Black Lips and Thee Oh Sees curating instead of Lenny Kaye. Not literally, of course. But the spirit of those garage demigods is alive and well alongside subtle nods to everything from the Pixies and Tame Impala to the godfathers of guitar-guided pop music, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys.
If combining the influence of so many classic artists seems like a lofty goal for a group of 20 year olds, just remember that Twin Peaks' core quartet-frontman Cadien Lake James, guitarist Clay Frankel, bassist Jack Dolan and drummer Connor Brodner-has roots that reach back to elementary school. After cutting his teeth during his high school freshman year in a duo with his older brother Hal, James reconnected with his old chums and formed what would become Twin Peaks, and the chemistry was immediately undeniable.
Having quickly cut their debut LP, 2013's Sunken, in Cadien's basement so they could sell it on tour, the band was excited to spend more time developing Wild Onion, a record that reveals a level of maturity beyond all the amp-singeing solos, ragtag rhythms and dizzying voices of three distinct singer-songwriters. Unlike acts who let their egos get in the way, Cadien, Clay and Jack share the spotlight and play to one another's strengths as Connor keeps things moving with a steady beat.1. I Found a New Way

Road From MemphisThe Road from Memphis starts with a young Booker T. Jones hauling his stack of newspapers to Phineas Newborn's front yard where, while folding them for his after]school delivery route, he could listen to the jazz great practice piano. It ends with Booker and The Roots roaring through a set of both timeless and contemporary originals (and propulsive covers of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy and Lauren Hill's Everything Is Everything.
Along for the ride are vocalists Matt Berninger of the National, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket, Sharon Jones, Lou Reed, and Booker himself, telling the story of how the funk/soul sound that Booker helped invent spiraled out from Memphis, touching The Roots' hometown of Philadelphia, New York (where engineer Gabe Roth has been recreating classic soul sonics for everyone from Sharon Jones to Amy Winehouse), and Detroit.
Detroit as in Dennis Coffey, legendary Motown session guitarist who introduced driving rock]funk rhythm to hits like Cloud Nine and Ball of Confusion by the Temptations, and brings his Detroit grit to these tracks. The Road from Memphis is classic Memphis soul, and classic Booker in the tradition of Green Onions, but beyond that it is the story of a sound, and how Booker, working with the inheritors of his sound, is keeping a tradition alive.1. Loose PowerWhen Unwound broke up in 2002, the pioneering post-rock band left a hole in the musical firmament that dozens of acts have been trying and failing to patch up in the years since. Try as they might, they could never quite reach the perfect balance of tension and release, spiny and smooth that made the Olympia-based trio's work so damn powerful.
Bringing together two ex-Unwound bandmates Justin Trosper and Brandt Sandeno, Survival Knife is another bracing and energetic shot to the dome by these singular songwriters, and one that they are eager to embrace.
Getting to this point, however, took some doing. Unlike all of his former musical brethren, singer/guitarist Trosper didn't have any interest in music after Unwound split. Instead, he moved to Los Angeles for a stretch, going to school and helping other bands with recording projects. But after returning to his hometown of Olympia, the itch to take up his guitar against the world returned, and, with the help of longtime musical companion Sandeno and his friends Kris Cunningham (drums) and Meg Cunningham (bass), Survival Knife was born.
The quartet already garnered a great deal of attention. The West Coast has already had a taste of what Survival Knife has to offer thanks to plenty of NW dates and a tour the band did last year with Modest Mouse. SFV Acid #2Zane Reynolds (SFV Acid) hails from Reseda, CA, straight up through the dense smog and the rolling hills from the city of Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley. Zane has been making music alone, DJing, performing and experimenting since 2007. His music is much like the city he comes from, grid locked but open, raw, real and depending on which direction you are looking, a different visceral experience. Since his first vinyl release to the world, New West Coast via PPM in March of 2011, his creative MPC, 303, 808 skills have been shown and grown to everyone that listens up (and you will wish you had). Making waves with his approach and attitude, unmatched, minimal, abstract acid-house and always truly exceptional songs, it's time to know where SFV Acid comes from.
SFV Acid's #2 sneaks in your head from the archives, deep, sought after and rare. While attending his last year of high school at Highland Hall High (Northridge, CA), Zane self released a handful of hand painted and hand drawn cassettes to his friends, he also left copies in random places throughout the San Fernando Valley including: Goodwill, Pierce Community College, In and Out Burger and Starbucks (what lucky fools). #2 was dug up and pressed onto virgin vinyl by PPM for all of our listening pleasure. This record stands tall amongst his releases thus far, a gem, a gritty ass shaking dirty drive into the So Cal sunset. " a spacey, smoldering update on '90s R&B, and a voice that's high and fluttery and commanding "
"NAO is one of those artists that is pushing forth an exciting new era of R&B and soul."
NAO's debut album For All We Know will be released via RCA Records and is set to be one of the defining records of 2016.
Her emergence as one of the most adored new singers of the year has been as fluid and elegant as one of her vocal phrases. Now she has delivered her highly anticipated debut For All We Know, a transcendent set of 18 songs. Woozy, spacey funk, shot through with her effortless breath-taking toplines, part neo-soul, part UK bass, part funk rock - all at a sensual, stepping R&B pace.
The record features fan favorites "Girlfriend," "Inhale Exhale," "Bad Blood" and "Fool To Love" as well as incredible unheard tracks like "Trophy" - where NAO collaborates with A.K. Paul again - and "Get To Know Ya" co-produced by XL Recordings' Jungle. Other co-producers (NAO is credited as producer on 17 of the 18 tracks) include her good friends John Calvert ("In The Morning," "Blue Wine," "We Don't Give A"), GRADES ("Bad Blood," "Fool To Love," "Inhale Exhale," "Girlfriend") and LOXE ("Adore You," "Give Me A Little").
NAO grew up in South Woodford, East London, listening to gospel in her local Evangelical church, her brother's jungle UK garage and her sister's '90s and '00s R&B - going on to study at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She starting writing songs in her mid-twenties after a few years of teaching school kids to sing and doing backing vocal gigs for the likes of Pulp and Kwabs.
Inspired by Little Dragon, the ideas and words flowed, and she soon began working on her own songs, resulting in her 2014 debut EP, So Good. The EP's title track, made with A.K. Paul, whizzed around the world accumulating millions of plays on Soundcloud. NAO's 2015 follow-up EP, February 15, contained the single "Zillionaire" which was featured in a Samsung Galaxy commercial. By January 2016 she placed third in the high-profile BBC Sound Poll and her incredible year continues with a recent performance on Later with Jools Holland, the cover of The Guardian and rave reviews from Fader, Essence, Pitchfork, Entertainment Weekly, and more.

More Songs About Love And HateGodfathers unleashed the storming rocker 'Birth School Work Death' as their debut single on Epic Records in late '87 & scored a US Billboard top 40 hit after massive college radio airplay & heavy MTV rotation. Precious SoulLong Out Of Print Debut Solo Album from One of Hi Records' Most Successful Staff Songwriters!
Best-known as a staff songwriter under Willie Mitchell at Hi Records and as the husband of Hi star Ann Peebles, Don Bryant was also a fine, underappreciated singer in his own right. Bryant was born in Memphis on April 4, 1942; his father, Edward, sang with a gospel group called the Four Stars of Harmony, and Bryant himself began singing in church at age five. In 1955, he and four brothers formed their own gospel group, the Five Bryant Brothers, which soon switched to doo wop under the name the Quails.
Not long after, Bryant joined several high school friends in another doo wop group, the Four Canes, who were named after their manager, local DJ D. Cane Cole. When the group split with Cole, Bryant changed their name to the Four Kings, and they caught the attention of trumpeter/bandleader Willie Mitchell, who began performing with them around the Memphis club scene. Through Mitchell, Bryant got his original composition "Is There Someone Else on Your Mind" recorded by the 5 Royales and made his first solo recording in 1964 with a cover of Chris Kenner's "I Like It Like That."
Over the next five years, Bryant recorded several duets with Marion Brittnam and numerous cover songs, the latter of which constituted his first full-length LP, 1969's Precious Soul (issued on Hi). However, his behind-the-scenes career soon became more lucrative, specifically when Mitchell assigned him to work with new Hi signee Ann Peebles. No longer the label's focal point, Bryant resisted at first, but quickly discovered a creative and personal chemistry with Peebles that blossomed into a relationship in 1972 and marriage two years later.
In the meantime, Bryant co-wrote a number of Peebles' signature songs, including "I Can't Stand the Rain" and "99 Pounds"; his success led to a staff songwriting position, where he penned material for other Hi stars like Al Green, Syl Johnson, O.V. Wright and Otis Clay.1. She's Looking Good
