    From backwoods barbecues and community gatherings, Allen Stone emerges to share personal melodies, telling tales of life after just 24 years.     With all the exultation about the reconciliation between the capitalistic USA and the socialistic island state of Cuba, it is easy to oversee that the musical fusion between the two countries took place decades ago. Afro Cuban jazz, in which the interpretation and rhythms of swing and bebop are united with all imaginable rhythms from Brazil and the Caribbean, was label enough to describe a peaceful yet exciting and revolutionary music.


    At first glance it appears that in his album Stone Soul the Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaria just took a handful of popular songs from pop and soul and 'translated' them into his own musical language. So far so good: but the enthusiasm and joy with which the band performs is anything but ordinary. Once the threshold for a potent Latin combo has been overcome with meaty winds (See Saw), Sonny Fortune on the alto sax storms ahead along rhythm & blues tracks and breaks out with hectic cleft licks on his own headstrong path. Incited by crisp percussion, one can experience how traditional music is combined with a musician's own ideas to create completely new music.

    At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.



    During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.



    A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.



    We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.



    We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.



    To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Fronted by Justin Rice and Christian Rudder, Bishop Allen is best known for making and self-releasing an EP each month for an entire year, then reworking some of the best songs for a highly acclaimed label debut (The Broken String). The rigorous EP project, and the extensive touring that has followed it, have allowed Bishop Allen to hone their craft: writing, performing and recording music.


    The resulting album, Grrr..., reveals that after five years of comparisons to other artists like Jonathan Richman, The Kinks, Bright Eyes, Spoon, etc., in rave reviews from Rolling Stone, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly and many others, Bishop Allen has developed an artistry and sound that are unmistakably their own. One thing that distinguishes Bishop AllenÆs music is the quality of the writing. RiceÆs literate lyrics, which The Los Angeles Times has praised for their ôpoetic insight,ö have a universality that has made them resonant to listeners of all ages and earned them champions ranging from the young comic actor Michael Cera to the National Public Radio host Scott Simon.


    Each of the 13 tracks comprising Grrrà is a succinct composition, and yet the album also coheres seamlessly as a song cycle. The melody and/or rhythm of one track is often contiguous with the next. As always, Rice and Rudder are responsible not only for the writing, but the lionÆs share of the playing and the recording: the guitars, pianos, marimbas, ukeleles and vocals. And, as before, Darbie Nowatka shares in the singing. Otherwise, the album features contributions from a number of their friends: drums and percussion by Michael Tapper, horns by Jon Natchez and Kelly Pratt, and strings by Daniel Hart. Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples in Stereo, Luna, Sebadoh) offered the band some invaluable production tips and, at his famed Trout Recording studio in Brooklyn, recorded the drums and mixed the album.

    Hot Rocks 1964-1971 is the first compilation album of Rolling Stones music released by former manager Allen Klein's ABKCO Records (who gained control of the band's Decca/London material in 1970) after the band's departure from Decca and Klein. Released in late 1971, it proved to be The Rolling Stones' biggest-selling release of their career and an enduring and popular retrospective.


    After reportedly having been duped by Klein to unknowingly sign over the recording copyrights to all of their material from 1963 to 1970, The Rolling Stones left Decca and formed their own label, Rolling Stones Records, with a new distributor. They recorded Sticky Fingers throughout 1970, releasing it the following spring. Although Klein-and now ABKCO-no longer had The Rolling Stones as clients, their fruitful catalogue was ripe for the picking and, thus, Hot Rocks 1964-1971 was quickly compiled as a double album greatest hits package.


    While the album carries most of the band's biggest hits during their first decade, it does drop a few of them in order to include standout tracks such as Play With Fire, Under My Thumb and Gimme Shelter giving listeners a more well-rounded impression of The Rolling Stones' music in this era. Although Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are a part of Sticky Fingers, those two songs are co-owned by the band and Allen Klein because The Rolling Stones recorded the songs while they were still under contract to Decca.

    Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock performance may be his most famous, but the guitarist named by Rolling Stone as the best in history was never better than at a three-night stand in San Francisco, putting on a total of six concerts that fans have long clamored to hear.     Winterland is drawn from said six stellar shows recorded over three days (October 10, 11 and 12, 1968) at San Francisco's historic Winterland Ballroom. These special performances celebrated the two-year anniversary of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and came just as the groundbreaking album Electric Ladyland was released. Even given the era's rich history, you'll be hard-pressed to come up with any concert that rivals what's here.


    As many already know, Winterland presents some of Hendrixs most spectacular guitar work. This scintillating set is filled with rare live versions of classic songs such as Manic Depression, Are You Experienced?, Tax Free, and Little Wing that are not part of any other Sony Legacy releases. Fans will also enjoy Hendrixs dramatic interpretations of Creams Sunshine Of Your Love and Howlin Wolfs Killing Floor (with the Experience joined by Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady) as well his rendition of Bob Dylans Like A Rolling Stone, which many critics and fans regard as the ultimate interpretation.


    Pressed on 8 x 180g LPs, this special deluxe box set features never before released music from each of the six unforgettable Winterland performances. Please note that Winterland is now markedly different from the flawed single disc compilation, long out of print, briefly issued by Rykodisc in 1987 and 1988. Moreover, Winterland also presents a rare interview with Hendrix recorded backstage at the Boston Garden a few weeks after the Winterland performances. This previously unreleased bonus provides fans with a unique window into Hendrixs views about his background, his approach to the guitar, and songwriting and future direction of his music.


    As should be required for any such box set, Winterland features a 36-page booked filled with previously unpublished images by acclaimed photographers Robert Knight, Allen Tannenbaum, and Jim Marshall, as well as an essay by noted Rolling Stone journalist David Fricke.

    The Things That We Are Made Of

    The Things That We Are Made Of, the new full-length album by renowned and beloved singer, songwriter and performer Mary Chapin Carpenter, will be released on Lambent Light Records via Thirty Tigers.


    Produced by 2016 Producer of the Year Grammy-nominee Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton), the album features eleven new songs, including the lead track "Something Tamed Something Wild. Of the song, Rolling Stone praises, " beautifully sums up where she's been and sets the stage for what's yet to come 'Something Tamed Something Wild' and indeed the entire new album finds the songwriter at her most thoughtful and also at times sweetly whimsical, perfectly capturing the buoyant spirit of her early successes and also serving as a reminder that she remains one of the most grounded, sentient songwriters of her generation."


    The Things That We Are Made Of was recorded at Nashville's Sound Emporium and Low Country Sound studios during the spring and summer of 2015. In addition to Carpenter (vocals, electric/acoustic guitar), the album features Cobb (electric/acoustic/gut string guitar, percussion, Moog, Mellotron), Annie Clements (bass), Brian Allen (bass), Chris Powell (drums, percussion), Mike Webb (piano, B3 organ, reed organ, Mellotron, Fender Rhodes) and Jimmy Wallace (piano, B3 organ).


    Of the album, Carpenter comments, "Working with Dave felt great from the first day of our sessions. He is always willing to try something new, believes that 'yes' is the only answer, and surrounds himself with wonderfully talented and generous musicians; by the end of the project, I felt as if I was a part of a new family." Cobb adds, "I wanted to work with Mary Chapin because very few people can cut with words like she can. She's an absolute poet and legend. I was so happy to collaborate on this album together."


    Over the course of her acclaimed career, Carpenter has recorded 14 albums and sold over 14 million records. With hits like "Passionate Kisses" and "He Thinks He'll Keep Her," she has won five Grammy Awards (with 15 nominations), two CMA awards, two Academy of Country Music awards for her vocals and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Most recently, in 2014, Carpenter released her acclaimed debut orchestral album, Songs From The Movie. Arranged and co-produced by six-time Grammy winner Vince Mendoza, the record is comprised of ten previously recorded compositions including "Between Here and Gone" and "Come On Come On." Since it's release, Carpenter has performed alongside the New York Philharmonic, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the London Concert Orchestra, the L.A. Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra among many others.

    Back in the days of hard rock and surrounded by fierce competitors with such great names as the Doors, Black Sabbath and the Rolling Stones, a band had to attract attention with far more than histrionic pathos, biker boogie, an adept lead guitarist and a sharp-tongued singer. The band Blue Öyster Cult, founded on Long Island in 1971, possessed all this and much more, relating short scenarios in their lyrics, which conjured up people's imagination. Rolling Stone magazine enthused that it was »like listenin' to Hitchcock and Kubrick swap stories about their wet dreams«, and that the group »mix aesthetics and ass-kicking rock to such good advantage«.



    In their third studio album Secret Treaties, BÖC reached the pinnacle of their musical evolution with such memorable songs as Career Of Evil, Subhuman and Astronomy. The lyrics have literary value but are certainly not intended for sensitive souls - the phrases are direct and intentionally drily articulated. The music is as blatant and extroverted as the lyrics: the guitar sound is steely and straightforward, occasionally padded out with a see-sawing Hammond groove, and topped again and again by wonderfully rough string solos that speak the language of hard, merciless and full-bodied rock.

    Patti Smith, the first published poet to move her poetry completely into rock 'n' roll and to entice experimental rock fans into the forbidden cinema of her hallucinatory fantasy (New York Times), began her musical career unconventionally. It took off at a poetry reading where she was backed by Lenny Kaye on guitar; later star photographer Robert Mapplethorpe financed her punk-rock cult single Hey Joe. In 1975, encouraged by her success, Patti Smith released Horses, an album in which she fused rock riffs and spoken rhythms to create a punk-trash sound. The rock scene was electrified, raging about the best garage sound of the 70s (Creem Magazine) and conjectured that Smith had drawn up material from Rimbaud, Burroughs, Dylan and Velvet Underground into a hot needle and injected it under the skin (Sounds Magazine). Later productions were dismissed as sentimental and self-loving outpourings, since the rock-poet didn't continue in the same vein as Horses, with its metallic harshness and raw language. That's why this recording remains an impressive unique production by a visionary rock 'n' roll singer.

When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.



    We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.



    We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.



    To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    For an artist who first gained success as a songwriter and moved on to a stunning career with his band of
    renown Little Feat, the late great Lowell George continually proved to be a major force on the music scene for his short
    time on earth. His music transcended all genres of music styles, fusing rock, R&B and folk landscapes with thought
    provoking and stellar lyrical content during his successful reign on the album and radio charts.


    After reaching very successful heights with Little Feat, Lowell decided it was time to record a solo album with
    1979's Thanks I'll Eat It Here.


    Thanks I'll Eat It Here finds Lowell George groovin' back to the earlier boogie and New Orleans rock and R&B
    feel found on his earlier Little Feat albums. Released a very short time before his untimely death, the album included
    his brilliant 20 Million Things, a funk infused Little Feat revisit with Two Trains, plus several inspiring collaborations
    with notable friends like Van Dyke Parks and Little Feat's Fred Tackett, as well as significant cover versions like Allen
    Toussaint's What Do You Want the Girl to Do, which the late artist truly made his own.


    The all-star recording sessions included some of the finest talents and close friends like Bonnie Raitt, John David
    Souther, John Phillips, Jim Keltner, Nicky Hopkins (Quicksilver, Rolling Stones) David Foster, Floyd Sneed and Jimmy
    Greenspoon (Three Dog Night), David Paich and Jeff Porcaro (Toto), and of course a handful of the original Little Feat
    alumni like Richie Hayward, Fred Tackett and Billy Payne.


    Out-of-print on viny for several decades now, Friday Music is very honored to offer Lowell George's first and only
    solo album Thanks I'll Eat It Here/The Deluxe Edition. For this special occasion, we are including the rare original CD
    only release of Heartaches featuring a stellar duet with Valerie Carter.

    Hot Rocks 1964-1971 is the first compilation album of Rolling Stones music released by former manager Allen Klein's ABKCO Records (who gained control of the band's Decca/London material in 1970) after the band's departure from Decca and Klein. Released in late 1971, it proved to be The Rolling Stones' biggest-selling release of their career and an enduring and popular retrospective.


    After reportedly having been duped by Klein to unknowingly sign over the recording copyrights to all of their material from 1963 to 1970, The Rolling Stones left Decca and formed their own label, Rolling Stones Records, with a new distributor. They recorded Sticky Fingers throughout 1970, releasing it the following spring. Although Klein-and now ABKCO-no longer had The Rolling Stones as clients, their fruitful catalogue was ripe for the picking and, thus, Hot Rocks 1964-1971 was quickly compiled as a double album greatest hits package.


    While the album carries most of the band's biggest hits during their first decade, it does drop a few of them in order to include standout tracks such as Play With Fire, Under My Thumb and Gimme Shelter giving listeners a more well-rounded impression of The Rolling Stones' music in this era. Although Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are a part of Sticky Fingers, those two songs are co-owned by the band and Allen Klein because The Rolling Stones recorded the songs while they were still under contract to Decca.
