Ann Peebles is an African-American singer and songwriter who gained celebrity for her Memphis soul albums of the 1970s for Hi Records. Pulling Chain

    Colored Vinyl

Anne's proper debut LP - "Pulling Chain" leads a dark and dirty dance oozing
with gothic sexuality. Combining vibing, moody synths with thumping electronic back beats, Pulling Chain marks a change in form as frontman David Lindell
continues Anne into electronic territory. His vocals dip and tease between a
lusty, bellowing baritone and a playful falsetto. Maintaining post-punk rhythmic
tendencies and stepping out of the reverbed cloudiness of previous work, Lindell
emerges with a collection of songs that carry a grinding, primal urgency.

Owed To Mama Rickie (Awaiting Repress)

Rickie Byars Beckwith is Georgia Anne Muldrows mother. Rickie is also the music and arts director of the world famous Agape International Center in Culver City, CA. It's no surprise then that after releasing a dizzying array of albums, Georgias latest and most poignant full length would be titled Owed To Mama Rickie.

Owed instead of ode, the obvious play on words speaks to a promise from daughter to mother to finally release an album that taps directly into her spiritual roots. Still laden with the signature bass heavy, drum snapping funk of her production, the vocals this time around are rich with the soulful musings of the ancients.

Songs like Dr. Feelgood warn of sugar daddies preying on the weak with worldy posessions while More & More (a duet with grammy nominated singer Bilal) reminds you to love yourself, friends and family. EZ Duz It is a funky groove about life in the neighborhood while All In All and The Key channel energies of the ancestors to cleanse both mind and spirit.

    Part Time Love

There were so many competent records coming out of Memphis that any burgeoning greatness can only be detected by a careful listening. Ann Peebles deserves that kind of extra care.
Her style is so subtle and economical that the fi ner qualities of her talents might be passed
over as being merely competent. This would be a crime because little Ann has so very much
    to offer.

Ann stresses the melody (rather than rhythm for its own sake). This is not to say she can't
sing funky; she can and does very effectively. It just means Ann shines extra brightly on the
slower bluesy numbers. For example "Give Me Some Credit" is such a moving lament, filtering faint traces of early Smokey Robinson and the album's two most tender cuts, "I Still Love
You" and "Steal Away" are the places where Ann Peebles makes such a great impression.
These are the kinds of song that become "personal" classics.

Ann sings seven up-tempo numbers on which she illustrates her tight, full-bodied voice and
shows why she's presently way up on R & B charts all over the country. Her renditions of "It's
Your Thing," "Part Time Love," and "Make Me Yours" are unfettered delights.

Ann Peebles goes past the apparent and into the sublime. She stands beyond the predictably
competent. And you know that's where it's at.

    Immortal (Pre-Order)

Ann Wilson of Heart, one of rock's most distinctive and powerful vocalists, will release her new solo album on BMG, marking her debut for the label. Fittingly titled Immortal, the album features 10 musically diverse tracks that pay homage to some of the singer's favorite songs and artists, all of whom have passed away in recent years and whose music poignantly lives on. Ann Wilson states specifically about this project, For these souls passed, for all souls present, these songs are shades of life, love, darkness and light. It is an honor to stand inside these expressions and make them mine for a moment. Listen, feel and dig them with me. Love and respect, Ann.

to much critical acclaim, rounding out 2013 as the musical guest on The Late Show with David

    I Can't Stand The Rain

This wonderful album, originally released in 1974 on the Memphis-based Hi Records label, deserved a wider audience than it ended up getting at the time. It played to Ann Peebles' greatest strength, her poised and sultry voice, and surrounded by the sparse, easy funkiness of the trademark Hi rhythm section and producer Willie Michell's perfect use of horns and strings, she sings like a resilient but scorned angel on this impressive set of songs about the darker side of love.

Her best song is here, the eccentric but brilliant I Can't Stand the Rain, along with a marvelous version of Joe Simon's (You Keep Me) Hangin' On, and perfect readings of a pair of Earle Randle songs in If We Can't Trust Each Other and I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down. Peebles sings her heart out, and with those bright-sounding Hi grooves behind her, it all comes together to make a classic album of dark, bouncy and beautiful Southern soul.

The Handwriting Is On The Wall

On Vinyl For The First Time In Over 30 Years!

Released in 1979, The Handwriting Is on the Wall boasted some high-powered funk backdrops, but for the most part the album finds Peebles taking on a set of straight-ahead soul numbers in which she was usually either taking a man away from some woman who didn't know how to hold on to him, or was warning the ladies why they should stay away from her significant other. Peebles is a tower of defiant sass on I Didn't Take Your Man and You've Got the Papers (I've Got the Man), she leaves no doubt about why she's dating outside her age group on Old Man with Young Ideas, and Bip Bam Thank You Mam alerts listeners to the consequences of not pleasing Ms. Peebles. Willie Mitchell pairs Peebles up with some full-bodied soul and funk arrangements for these songs, and while unfortunately most of the great Hi Rhythm Section were unavailable for this record, the players on board do fine work, even if the groove lacks the ineffable touch of Peebles' finest work. The Handwriting Is on the Wall was Ann Peebles' last album for Hi, and the last new set she would release until 1988, but it captures one of the great R&B singers of the 1970s doing what she does best, and here she bows out on a high point.

Straight From The Heart (Awaiting Repress)

Ann Peebles' climb up the career ladder was rather more conventional than spectacular in the tough, rough days of rhythm and blues. She was first discovered when she appeared in Memphis nightclubs, was given a break by the big-band leader Gene 'Bowlegs' Miller, and landed her first top hit with the celebrated song I Can't Stand The Rain.

Towards the end of the Seventies she made a well-timed retreat just before the outbreak of the highly commercialised disco wave, only to return many years later with a revival of her old songs. Her album from 1972 has certainly not mellowed with age. Her singing is sharp and soulful, and comes right from the heart (Slipped, Tripped And Fell In Love). The beat is powerful, throbbing, young and fresh (What You Laid On Me) or surging and groovy (How Strong Is A Woman?). The arrangements come across as sophisticated and well balanced, yet do not baulk at harsh attacks from the winds nor from the use of Hammond and Hohner keyboards, which were so popular at that time. Melody, singers and big band are airy and finely interwoven (Somebody's On Your Case), while a fusion of soft swing and snappy acerbity (I Pity The Fool) rounds off this album which is filled with pure emotion, heart and soul.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Jesus I'm A Sinner

Jesus I'm a Sinner is the 4th LP by Daniel Bachman. The album was recorded in Rappahannock County Virginia at Forrest Marquisee's studio inside his
father's woodshop in May of 2013 after spending just around 8 months on the road.

The first song Sarah Anne is a song for one of his best friends and sister Sarah Anne Bachman, and is also his first full song for the lap guitar.
Honeysuckle Reel is a springtime tune. For that first day when the heat and humidity sets in and the smell of the honeysuckle bloom creeps in your open
windows driving. Happy One Step is a guitar/fiddle duet with Sally Morgan of the Black Twig Pickers/The Freight Hoppers. It is a Cajun tune by Dennis
McGee. Jesus I'm a Sinner is for cutting loose. Variation on Goose Chase is a version of Virgil Anderson's Goose Chase. Although attempted to adapt to
the guitar, playing it on the banjo was the only way to keep the feel of the original version.

Under the Shade of the Trees has the undertone and drone of the 17 year cicada hatch that hit Virginia summer of 2013. The title is taken from Stonewall
Jackson's last words on his deathbed Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees. Chattanooga is played by Sally Anne Morgan
(fiddle) and Charlie Devine (banjo). This version was taken from Blaine Smith. Blenheim is the name of the LatanÉ family's property in Westmorland Co.
Virginia. Its a song for good food, drinks and solid company nestled on the banks of the Potomac River. Leaving Istanbul (4 AM) is a frustration song and
the feeling of being very tired thousands and thousands of miles away from home.

Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone (Awaiting Repress)

Lee Ann Womack, one of the most distinctive and decorated vocalists in modern music, will make her debut for ATO Records with the release of 'The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone,' an album that mixes the country, soul, gospel and blues of her native East Texas, into an audacious, sharp-edged work of art. Produced by Womack's husband and fellow Texan Frank Liddell (fresh off a 2017 ACM Album of the Year win for Miranda Lambert's 'The Weight of These Wings'), and featuring songs mostly co-written by Womack, 'The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone,' is her most personal album to date, marking the culmination of a journey that began with her 2005 CMA Album of the Year 'There's More Where That Came From' toward an authentic American music that celebrates her roots and adds to the canon.

'The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone' features fourteen new songs, recorded with Womack's core band of top shelf musicians including bassist Glenn Worf, songwriters and guitarists Wright, Payne and Ethan Ballinger, and drummer Jerry Roe. The album was mostly recorded at the legendary SugarHill Studios in Houston, TX. Formerly known as Gold Star and open since 1941, SugarHill is one of the oldest continuously run studios in the country and home to seminal early recordings by many artists who had a formative influence on Womack, including George Jones, Willie Nelson and Lightnin' Hopkins. Among the album's three cover songs, Womack recorded a haunting version of George Jones' Take the Devil Out of Me standing on the same gold star linoleum floor where he cut the 1959 original.

I wanted to get out of Nashville, and tap the deep music and vibe of East Texas, says Womack. I wanted to make sure this record had a lot of soul in it, because real country music has soul. I wanted to remind people of that.

'The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone' follows Womack's acclaimed 2014 album 'The Way I'm Livin',' which SPIN deemed the best of her career to date. Highlights from that career include performances for presidents and other world leaders, duets partners ranging from George Strait to John Legend, a Grammy, five Academy of Country Music awards, and six Country Music Association awards including Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, and two Singles of the Year.

    Sea When Absent

Appropriately for new beginnings, Sea When Absent marks a number of firsts for ASDIG-it's the first album recorded in a real studio by someone who isn't Ben or Josh, the first album not written mostly by Ben, the first album with next-to-no reverb, and the first time in ASDIG's history that it has existed as anactual band (not just Ben or Josh playing everything). There was also a conscious effort to get away from aspects of recording that have defined this band in the past-namely heavily reverbed and buried vocals [ed.- they never sound buried to Ben]. Vocalists Jen Goma and Anne Fredrickson have beautiful voices and it was time to explore the possibilities of their abilities/talents. Jen took on a central role in the making of this album, stepping up to write most of the lyrics and melodies. Anne also contributed melodies throughout the album and put her classical cello training to use adding string arrangements. Since 2009 Ben has called Sydney, Australia home and while he was down under, multi-instrumentalist/backup vocalist/engineer/jack-of-all-trades Josh Meakim was Our Man in Philly, overseeing the recording sessions and adding all of the musical and production ideas he usually does. The distance between Ben and the rest of the band also forced novel ways of building songs from across the world. Bassist Ryan Newmyer, in Brooklyn, was tasked with deconstructing and rebuilding several songs in his own way-Oh, I'm a Wrecker (What to Say to Crazy People) bears the fruit of this tact. Holding it all together is drummer Adam Herndon. Adam is Sea When Absent's alchemist-weaving between, and often reconciling, the colossal boom of electronic beats (see Golden Waves or Double Dutch) and the subtle elegance of a drum kit in a room (see The Body, It Bends or The Things They Do to Me).

Between releasing Ashes Grammar in late 2009 and Autumn, Again in late 2010, ASDIG spent the better part of that year on tour. The six members in this band returned to six different Ithacas and the various dramas and adventures they've endured since then inform a lot of Sea When Absent. But 2014 is also just an insanetime to be alive. Dominant narratives have broken down and the stories we tell ourselves have never been more up-for-grabs.It's all happening and A Sunny Day in Glasgow want to be as simultaneously everywhere and nowhere as the rest of us. Sea When Absent is ASDIG's story for the milieu-a fever-dream about the now (or maybe a lucid dream about the fever-now) and a future possible set in pop-major.
