EmotionalismEmotionalism from The Avett Brothers is the defining, emotionally-arresting statement of the new indie alternative folk movement. Melding rock, punk, jazz and gospel, The Avetts are reinventing roots music. Theyve become one of the hottest grassroots touring bands in recent memory with shows that have become the stuff of legend. Their signature intensity has catapulted them from tiny college pubs to Bonnaroo. With Emotionalism and a massive U.S. headlining tour that includes Coachella, Bumbershoot and Telluride, The Avett Brothers are poised to break wide open.

True SadnessTrue Sadness is a patchwork quilt, both thematically and stylistically. Wherein a myriad of contrasting fabrics make perfect sense on the same plane, this album draws upon countless resources from its writers and performers. To further propel the expansive color and textural fields of the record, we are blessed to play and perform music with a group of musicians who possess not only great talent, but great interpretive ability. They are an extension of our family and their care for the work at hand (and the project at large) informs a dynamic musical contribution to any piece we proudly give our last name. Sonically, the album is as multidimensional as its makers. The same could be said of its long list of influences. So the quilt is sewn, in part, with the brightly colored threads of Queen, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Jimmie Rodgers, Tom Petty, Nine Inch Nails, Gillian Welch, Aretha Franklin, Walt Disney, Pink Floyd, Kings of Convenience, calypso of the 1950s and country of the 1930s. Rock and roll is here, as always. There are moments of undeniable celebration and camaraderie, others of quiet and lonely exhalation. Throughout the album, we stitched together the boldest red and the calmest green, polka dots and stripes, the roughest denim and the smoothest velveteen. They came together because they are the best patterns we have and because each of us brought our own fabric to the quilting frame.
We made this record as people who have made records together before - with experienced hands, appreciative hearts, renewed focus, and the knowledge of our good fortune to make music once again.

The CarpenterProduced by Rick Rubin and recorded in North Carolina and Malibu, the record follows the group's 2009 breakthrough release and celebrated major label debut, I and Love and You. That album reached #16 on the Billboard Top 200 and received rave notices from press that includes Rolling Stone (2009 Band to Watch), Paste (voted the #1 album of 2009 and one of the Best Albums of the Decade), Time Magazine (voted one of the Top 10 albums of 2009), New York Times, Billboard, and the Los Angeles Times. The buzz on the band grew so strong, The Avett Brothers were invited to perform on the 2011 Grammy Awards, and then, along with Mumford & Sons, backed up Bob Dylan on his iconic Maggie's Farm.LP1

ADAD-NET-0914xOld Crow Medicine Show
Deluxe Vinyl Gatefold Package Includes Bonus Red Colored 7" Vinyl
Featuring The Platinum Single "Wagon Wheel" Plus Two Previously Unreleased Tracks
Two-time Grammy Award winners and Grand Ole Opry members Old Crow Medicine Show release Best Of, which features
12 of the most memorable and beloved songs from O.C.M.S. (2004), Big Iron World (2006), Tennessee Pusher (2008) - as well
as two previously unreleased tracks: "Black Haired Quebecoise" and "Heart Up In The Sky." The album will be made
available on vinyl, a format on which none of these songs are currently available and many have never been.
Over the past 15 years, Old Crow Medicine Show has cultivated a diverse fan base that thrives on the band's energetic
performances. They have earned the respect of both their peers and influences while also influencing the new guard of
folk rock revivalists. While trends have come and gone, Old Crow Medicine Show continues to be a strong and steady
force in roots music. The Best Of is a nostalgic walk down memory lane for those who have been with the band since
the beginning, and a nice overview for those fans who have only discovered the band recently.
Old Crow Medicine Show got their start by busking on street corners up and down the east coast and Canada, eventually
catching the attention of folk icon Doc Watson while playing in front of a pharmacy in Boone, North Carolina. He invited
them to play Merlefest and helped set the course of their successful career.
Similarly, just a few years later, Nettwerk discovered the band by crashing a house party in Nashville. The band was signed
shortly after, and in 2004, Nettwerk released O.C.M.S., which featured the now Platinum-selling anthem "Wagon Wheel," one
of the most covered recordings in recent history, most famously by Darius Rucker who got the track to #1 on the Hot Country
Songs chart in 2013.
Old Crow Medicine Show has won over audiences across the world with their boundless energy and spirit, playing renowned
festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, New Orleans Jazz Fest, the Newport Folk Festival, and many more. They've also shared
the stage with such artists as Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Willie Nelson, John Prine and The Avett Brothers and others.
The Best Of features "Wagon Wheel" along with other live show fan favorites like "Tell It To Me," "Down Home Girl," "CC Rider"
and "I Hear Them All." The two previously unreleased tracks, "Black Haired Quebecoise" and "Heart Up in the Sky" were
recorded in 2006 while the band was making Big Iron World.1. Wagon Wheel (from O.C.M.S. album)

The LumineersIn 2011, an eponymous, self-recorded EP led to touring, and before long The Lumineers started attracting devout fans. They're drawn by songs like Ho Hey and Stubborn Love, Americana-inflected barn burners in the vein of the Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons. The roots revival of the last few yeas has primed listeners for a new generation of rustic, heart-on-the-sleeve music. IVLETTER CONCERNING THE RECORD 'IV' AND A POST SCRIPT TO FANS
A lot can happen in twelve years. It is beyond probable (if not brutally unavoidable) that such a period of time could render a man nearly unrecognizable to his older self. I would not categorize the young man who made three records under the pen name 'Darling' (incidentally, me) as unrecognizable, but I can say perhaps that we are vaguely disassociated. Those 3 albums, written between 1999 and 2005 and recorded anywhere except a recording studio (the bulk being tracked in my bedroom and parents' garage) follow the exceedingly lonesome course of a kid barely out of high school through a shaky introduction to manhood. They were recorded alone (with cheap microphones) composed alone (with expensive sentimentality), defined by loving befuddlement, and darkened by an all-consuming breakup. I look at them now with an appreciation for where I was, with no small measure of gratitude that I am no longer there. What has not changed however, is that there are still songs that come along which make sense in my mind as fitting only on a 'Darling' record. Truthfully, in the decade-plus that has passed since I last released a solo piece, there have been many songs of this nature. Consequently I have written, designed, edited, and put this record out many times in my mind. Inevitably, however, life would change and the conceptual direction would change with it. It is changing now as I write this. But after twelve birthdays, twelve New Year's Eve's, and twelve winters, I have a portrait I am compelled to commit to the canon of self-portraits.
I am no longer the kid with all that worry, that blaring hurt and rum-fueled uncertainty. I am somewhere else now. But I still sit in my bedroom, quietly following songs where they take me, using them to process what is happening in my life. I have often declared to myself, that I would not leave the 'Darling' moniker forever tied to what I now regard as a time of young (albeit sincere) melancholy. And while this fourth installment is by no means an offering of pure and bright optimism, it is a statement less heavy with heartache, and hopefully a bit more even-keeled in its manner - whatever the emotional narrative. More importantly, it is a honest glimpse into my story alone and a faithful rendition of what I believe to be a notable chapter.
For those interested in the Darling project:
To say that activity of one form or another relating to my solo work is infrequent would be a bit of an understatement. In truth, as time goes, I am thankfully occupied primarily by the joys of my family and the pleasure of making music with my brother and some of my dearest friends. When, however, there are endeavors of the Darling variety on the horizon, I would be honored to let anyone interested know about it. If you count yourself among this set, please feel free to share your email address below. I can say, as someone who religiously declines giving my email out when a cashier asks for it, and as someone who somehow spends more time unsubscribing from email lists than answering emails, I will ONLY pass the word along when there is a word to pass meaning something significant like an upcoming album or confirmed performance(s). Once again, I realize that giving any part of your contact information out is a significant action, and I believe it should be seen as such. In other words, I won't be arranging for emails to go out about anything but relevant 'Darling' news. As always, thank you for your time and care.

Magpie And The DandelionThe Avett Brothers' Magpie and the Dandelion follows last year's The Carpenter and will mark the third time the band has collaborated with producer Rick Rubin. The album's first single, Another Is Waiting, debuted on NPR in August. In an open letter to, the band revealed that the forthcoming album was recorded during the same sessions as their last album. While we were working on 'The Carpenter,' we were so inspired that we wrote another record as well, the band writes. During those sessions, we just felt it. Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years Of The Story (An Album To Benefit War Child)This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Brandi Carlile's breakthrough album The Story. To celebrate she recruited artists like Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Pearl Jam, The Avett Brothers, Adele and many more for this Cover Stories album to benefit the charity War Child.
Brandi describes this project as ...a David and Goliath story. Since becoming a mother, the reality of a child s beautiful little life being torn apart by war felt like too big of a problem for me. Speed Of DarknessSpeed of Darkness, the follow-up to 2008's Float is punk ensemble Flogging Molly's fifth and arguably most important album to date. In the words of lead singer/songwriter Dave King, It wasn't the album we set out to write. It became the album we had to write. Speed of Darkness, produced by Ryan Hewitt (RHCP, The Avett Brothers) was written in Detroit, MI and takes a hard-nosed look at the economic collapse in the U.S. and the causes and the direct effect it has had on everyday people. The Motor City serves as the album's muse and a painful example of what has gone wrong. While Speed of Darkness attacks much of the greed and ignorance responsible for where we are, the album also delivers a message of hope, humanity and the resilience of mankind.
From their beginnings as a raucous pub band in Los Angeles in the late 1990's, the band has worn their blue collar ethos proudly and loudly, most notably during their incredible live performances. And now, as the country and the rest of the world rise up to recover and rebuild, never has that ethos been more apparent and important than on Speed of Darkness. The album, like Flogging Molly itself, is a testament to youth and resilience, to growing old and the wisdom of scars, and yet for all of the record's darkness and the speed with which it descends, the ultimate theme is one of light: we can preserve and we will.1. Smart FleshIncludes CD
With its dreamy, rustic take on the idea of Americana, the Low Anthem's Smart Flesh builds on the promise of the group's universally praised 2008 Nonesuch Records debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. As the Washington Post has put it, The Low Anthem isn't the first bunch of indie rockers to experiment with older string-band instruments and echoes of the songs of pre-1940 rural America. But no one has done it better than this Rhode Island trio... That's because very few bands have paid so much attention to detail, or to beauty.
To record Charlie Darwin, the three original band members-Jocie Adams, Ben Knox Miller, and Jeff Prystowskytook over a Block Island cabin in the dead of winter. To record Smart Flesh, the group now expanded to a quartet with the addition of drummer Mat Davidson-found a former pasta factory in Central Falls, Rhode Island, a cavernous loft space that became crucial to the shape of the album. Says vocalist Miller, We knew right away when we stepped into the factory that the space was really the main instrument for the whole record. The resonance was chilling. We were able to experiment with new recording techniques to capture the sound at different distances. Mics 100-200 feet away caught the sound barreling across the room. Additional tracks were recorded in a garage that had previously been home to a reptile breeder, another unconventional studio space that the quartet dubbed the gator pit.
The group self-produced Smart Flesh, bringing in Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk, M. Ward) to mix the Pasta Sauce sessions and Jesse Lauter (Elvis Perkins, April Smith) to engineer. Instrumentation included jaw harp, musical saw, stylophone, oversized drum kits, and three antique pump organs that the band had found and restored. The exquisitely crafted, achingly spare arrangements at times recall the early recordings of Leonard Cohen, and Miller's voice, on a track like Burn, displays a similarly gruff yet plaintive timbre. The deeply melancholic mood the group favors, starting with a spellbindingly slow-motion rendering of George Carter's 1920's era Ghost Woman Blues, will appeal to fans of the backwoods musings of Bon Iver or the lovelorn southern balladry of the Avett Brothers, with whom The Low Anthem has toured.1. Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis (Out Of Stock)A one-night-only concert was held at New York City's Town Hall last fall, to celebrate the music of the Coen brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis. The evening was filmed for a documentary that was broadcast by Showtime last winter, and now Nonesuch Records releases a live recording of the concert, Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of "Inside Llewyn Davis,"on January 13, 2015. The concert, documentary, and live album were produced by Inside Llewyn Davis writer/director/producers Joel and Ethan Coen and soundtrack producer T Bone Burnett. (Nonesuch also released the film's soundtrack.)
As Burnett explains, "Inside Llewyn Davis was filled with live performances of some of the folk songs that had survived the McCarthy hearings. Some of the songs were a hundred years old; some had just been written but sounded a hundred years old. In order to get attention for a film that was not exactly on the beat we decided to throw a concert featuring the actors and musicians who had performed in the movie and on the soundtrack. We also invited members of the extraordinary community of musicians who have coalesced around this old music-and have kept it alive in the wake of the most recent technological revolution-to join us that night. We asked them to perform an old song and one of their new songs.
He continues, "Several new stars emerged from their performances that evening-The Secret Sisters, Lake Street Dive, The Milk Carton Kids, Rhiannon Giddens, and Punch Brothers all proved themselves as good as the best as they took the stage next to Hall of Famers Joan Baez and Elvis Costello, and established younger artists like The Avett Brothers, Colin Meloy, Marcus Mumford, Conor Oberst, Willie Watson, Gillian Welch, and Jack White." In fact, T Bone Burnett has since produced albums by both Punch Brothers and Rhiannon Giddens, which will be released shortly after Another Day, Another Time.
Huffington Post called Another Day, Another Time "one of those only-in-New-York events," while Rolling Stone said it was "a bustling salute to the sounds and the idea of Sixties folk music," and continued, "For all the formality of the night, which was exceedingly well-paced and organized, the concert recalled a time when one or two people, bearing one or two unplugged instruments, could be as enthralling as the greatest rock or EDM track."1.
