    Singin' The Blues (Pure Pleasure)

Singin' The Blues was issued as Crown 5020 in spring 1957 and featured some of B.B. King's best-loved songs up to that point. The LP included four #1 R&B hits: 3 O'Clock Blues and You Know I Love You (1952), Please Love Me (1953) and You Upset Me Baby (1954); four other top ten hits; plus Blind Love from 1953 and covers of Tampa Red's Crying Won't Help You (1955) and Gatemouth Moore's Did You Ever Love A Woman from 1956. To fill out the album, a superior alternate take of Sweet Little Angel was included. As John Broven observes in his notes: In 1957 Singin' The Blues gave the first real indication that B.B. King was destined to be a major star. Absolutely seminal material; his classic hits.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    King Strings

John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Johnny "Guitar" Watson And More On 180 Gram Vinyl Pressed At R.T.I.

Selected from the crown jewels of the rich King-Federal-DeLuxe discography, King Strings features rocking, socking guitar instrumentals from the Cincinnati-based family of labels cut between 1949 and 1962, programmed for power! Fashioned as a vintage King LP from the era and containing a killer line-up of the biggest talents the stable of labels offered, this is the historic various artists collection that should have been issued circa 1962. King was central to the underlying creative flow in R&B during the era, and the recordings here show the depth of style and synergy that the label routinely captured on vinyl. From the proto-funk groove of Hooker's "Stomp Boogie" (under the pseudonym Texas Slim) to two cuts of Baker magic captured in Paris over a decade later, and including key cuts from Freddy King, Albert King, Johnny "Guitar" Watson and many others in between, you'll individually hear a variety of instruments, tones and techniques, but together the clear, common artistry of the players' sovereign ability, sequenced like a long, climactic solo-this is the sound of some of the most heralded talent of the guitar generation! Includes a rich, detailed insert with rare photos and extensive liner notes by Colin Escott. Join six-string soul royalty for a showcase from the company that called itself The King of Them All!

Though well known to his fans as the 'Sheik of the Blues,' thanks to the gigantic private collection of colorful turbans he wore on stage, by the end of 1957 the Atlanta-born Chuck Willis found himself crowned with yet another title, 'The King of the Stroll.' When the new dance step, The Stroll, began sweeping the US, his Betty And Dupree 45 had just been released, making it immediately clear that the groovy, slow tempo type of music to which the Stroll was danced went perfectly with the type of music Chuck Willis was releasing for Okeh Records, such as his irresistible update of C.C. Rider, a classic folk blues performed by Ma Rainey in Atlanta before Willis was even born, along with a plethora of R&B top sellers. These Okeh singles were later collected by Atlantic on this 1958 LP, The King Of The Stroll.

    King Of America

King of America on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram LP from Mobile Fidelity

Costello Teams With Musical Legends and Standout Producer T-Bone Burnett on Exemplary 1986 Album

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Mobile Fidelity LP Maximizes the Get-In, Get-Out, Live-In-the-Studio Immediacy and De-Congested Mix

Includes Introspective Songwriting Gems Such as "Indoor Fireworks," "Poisoned Rose," "Brilliant Mistake," and "Little Palaces"

Juggling Themes of Desire and Exile, Costello Strips Arrangements Down to Folk, Country and Pub-Rock Roots

Elvis Costello spent the year prior to recording King of America embarking on a solo tour, usually accompanied by producer/singer-songwriter T-Bone Burnett. The pair's decision to collaborate on Costello's 1986 album came naturally, and the music sounds it-emotional, effortless, literate, seemingly uncomplicated. Credit, however, not only goes to the best batch of Costello originals since 1982's Imperial Bedroom, but to the literally awesome and awe-inspiring cast of musicians Burnett invited to participate.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180 gram LP of this masterpiece broadens the live-in-the-studio intimacy and opens up the midrange, highs, and lows of Burnett's fabulously de-congested mix. Made with few overdubs or effects, King of America relishes organic approaches and faithful tones-as well as a vast spaciousness and balance not always evident on Costello's efforts with the attractions. Finally, Mobile Fidelity transports the listener to the semicircle of players that surrounded Costello in the studio, and highlights the benefits of the center-of-the-production miking technique employed on the singer's voice and guitar playing.

Given the brilliance of the performances, every music fan will want to be brought as near as possible to the purity of these sessions. A Hall of Fame-caliber list of instrumentalists accompany Costello, with Elvis Presley's T.C.B. mates Ron Tutt (drums), James Burton (guitar), and Jerry Scheff (bass) forming one band and drummer Earl Palmer (Little Richard), bassist Ray Brown (Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington), pianist Tom Canning, and organist Mitchell Froom ready in waiting as another. Several of these musicians formed yet another band, joined by drummer Jim Keltner of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and John Lennon fame. Oh-and the Attractions make a guest appearance on one track.

King of America-the title reflective of the threads of intentional, thought-provoking contradiction throughout-would be exemplary if just for the troupe. Yet it's the combination of chemistry, ability, sonics, and tunes that propel this watertight platter to iconic status. Unconcerned with writing a radio hit or adhering to a single musical theme, Costello wrote a majority of the material on acoustic guitar and on piano, tapping his pub-rock and folk roots in turning out songs that remain some of the catchiest, introspective, and deep of his career. Cuts such as "Indoor Fireworks," "Poisoned Rose," "Brilliant Mistake," and "Suit of Lights" epitomize Costello's inimitable manner of viewing adulthood, romance, and geographical transition through a transparent lens that blocks neither truth nor consequence.

As for the music? It swings (vide, Scheff's bass line on "Lovable"), swishes (Keltner's brushes on "I'll Wear It Proudly"), jumps (Brown's string bass on "Eisenhower Blues"), swoons ("Poisoned Rose"), and shuffles ("Jack of All Parades"). There's truly not a bum track here, and now, experienced in such high fidelity, the genius of every contributor can be easily heard and felt. Akin to Mobile Fidelity's other Costello reissues, this is not to be missed.

    The Best Of King Curtis

    Limited Anniversary Edition

    Pressed On 180 Gram Vinyl

Mastered Impeccably From The Atco Records Stereophonic Tapes By Joe Reagoso

King Curtis will be forever known as one of the leading voices of the 60's soul renaissance and truly one of the more championed musicians during his short lifetime. Thanks to today's respect and care given to his music by a whole new generation of musicians and fans, King Curtis forever reigns as one of soul's pioneers. Much like Ray Charles, Otis Redding, and other superstars before him, Curtis Owsley (King Curtis) had the necessary ingredients of stellar musicianship and songwriting acumen which successfully reached across all gospel, soul, rock and pop genres.

King Curtis created some of his greatest sides ever for ATCO Records, where he spent his time on earth creating some of the most masterful and funkiest soul music ever waxed. In 1968, he was honored with his first greatest hits collection simply titled "The Best of King Curtis." This stunning array of his most memorable hit singles and stellar album staples continues to illustrate how important a force he was then and still is today, over four decades since!

The album includes crossover hits Tramp and Knock on Wood. Following Redding's death, the single Lovey Dovey was also released. The original album's liner notes were written by Tennessee Senator Howard H. Baker, Jr.

The Shirelles and King Curtis Give a Twist Party

In 1962, the twist was EVERYWHERE. Artists from Joey Dee to Frank Sinatra (?!) were all chasing the craze, feverishly recording twist-able platters to meet the dance floor demand. Saxophone great King Curtis didn't sleep on the trend, scoring a major hit with "Soul Twist" along with several other twist-themed singles. Thus, it was only natural that he should team up with the country's #1 girl group, The Shirelles, themselves in the middle of an incredible run of chart-topping singles. This inspired pairing resulted in the Shirelles' second LP release of 1962, The Shirelles and King Curtis Give a Twist Party.

And what a party it is! The album's eleven tracks mix scorching instrumentals with vocal numbers, never once stopping for air. Curtis' gritty sax tone combines with The Shirelles' dulcet harmonies for a one-of-a-kind sound that will have everyone in the house on their feet, wearing through shoe leather. Sourced from the original Scepter analog master, this Sundazed reissue is destined to become a "go to" LP for your next soirÉe. Because when The Shirelles and King Curtis Give a Twist Party, the only acceptable RSVP is YES!!!"

A Tribute To The Great Nat King Cole

Early in his career Motown legend Marvin Gaye had wanted to be a crooner and his primary idol in this field was Nat
King Cole. So it's only natural that he would pay tribute to him on this covers album midway through his early 60's
success. This album features the favorites, "Unforgettable," "It's Only A Paper Moon," "Mona Lisa," and many more.

Following its Grammy nominated album Angel Dust, Faith No More returned in 1995 with KING FOR A DAY...FOOL FOR A LIFETIME. Recorded at Bearsville Studios near Woodstock, New York, it was the first without longtime guitarist Jim Martin, whose departure had an influence on the direction of the album. In the new liner notes, keyboardist Roddy Bottum writes: As a result, we wrote and recorded some of our most radical, out there songs, like 'Cuckoo For Caca' and 'Ugly In The Morning,' some of our mellowest like 'Take This Bottle,' 'Caralho Voador' and then some or our most high-drama, like 'Just A Man.' Among the eight bonus tracks are the b-sides Spanish Eyes and Absolute Zero, as well as the band's cover of the Bee Gee's I Started A Joke, which was originally released as a b-side in 1995, and then as a single in 1998.

King Bullard Version: Songs of the BOS Label

On Cleveland's late '60s gospel scene, the BOS label was the refined, professional ying to Boddie's lo-fi yang, galloping to the fore bearing a torch for Curtis Mayfield's robe-wearing roots. Founded by gospel impresario James Bullard, BOS is the first chapter in story that includes stints producing major spiritual albums for the Birthright, Roadshow, and Word labels. BOS got its start inside Lester Johnson and Bill Branch's Way Out concern, running the devotional wing of Cleveland's largest black-owned record company, and picking up a ton of Way Out's soulful flavor in the process. Compiled here are BOS's less traditional moments-12 bridges between FM R&B and AM sermons from a time when those worlds were splitting apart.

    Face Your Fear

CURTIS HARDING could best be described as a student
of the gritty, sweat-dripping, hip-swinging blues that
wafted through the air of the American sixties. The offspring
of a mother who sang gospel, and a retired veteran,
he traveled all over the country as a child, singing
alongside his parents, learning that music was in fact the
great communicator, and that the key was not just in how
pretty the notes were, but how if you were honest in what
you were singing, you could stir a person on the inside.
This is what Otis Redding knew. What Sam Cooke, and
Bo Diddley, and B. B. King knew. That somehow there
was a way to take your experiences, your pain and joy,
and give them melody, cause them to live and breathe
and massage the hearts and minds of all those who hear.
That is what CURTIS HARDING does on his new album,
Face Your Fear. He figures out how to tap into the old
soul man of the past without mimicking or bastardizing
it, but instead evoking the spirit of the true Soul music of
yesterday, meshed with the realities of now. With a little
production help from his friends Sam Cohen and Danger
Mouse, CURTIS HARDING has put together a collection
of tunes that NME described as "soul-meets-garage pop
    perfection."

    Black Moon Spell

King Tuff's new record is called Black Moon Spell.

It was produced and recorded by Bobby Harlow at Studio B in Los Angeles, California,
in the hot winter of 2014.

No one involved was prepared to make a record, but an invisible hand pushed them
to do it. Perhaps it was God or that special someone we all know and love called The
    Devil.

God and The Devil actually have very similar interests. They both love electric guitars
and they both want you to listen to Black Moon Spell and freak the fuck out.

There were many strange occurrences during the recording session- Dracula landlords,
flashes of mysterious light, haunted microphones, songs that mixed themselves,
demonic vortexes swirling in coffee cups, etc.

Under the Black Moon Spell you may experience euphoria, demented visions, wet
dreams, bouts of backwards laughter, and dazed confusion resulting in primordial
    dancing.

Fire played a very important role in the making of this album. King Tuff loves fire.
For some reason, no one can really explain how the Black Moon Spell came to be.
It just appeared one day and demanded heavy rock music and meatball subs.
Backwards messages may be found on this record.

Los Angeles, full of its screaming coyotes and creeping helicopters, surely slathered
its sexy, twisted, hairy, polluted spirit all over Black Moon Spell. The Sunset Strip
shat itself when it heard all these guitar solos.

Can you feel the Black Moon Spell creeping up the back of yr neck yet?

King Tuff would prefer not to tell you the full story of making this record because
its long and crazy and you wouldn't believe him anyway. Also, I am King Tuff.

Magic Jake, who played bass and is beautiful like sunshine, would like to take this
moment to give you a hug and invite you to a tanning party on a beach of your choice.

Old Gary, who plays drums and has the most glorious cackle, would like to take this
moment to crack a cold one with you and invite you to watch the old ballgame with
    him.

Old Gary was out watching the old ballgame, so a wild critter named Ty Segall played
drums on the song "Black Moon Spell". Ty enjoys speaking in a goblin voice in his
    spare time.

Night fell on Studio B. A Tarot card leapt from the deck and said, "No human
judgement is of any value here." King Tuff agreed.

Sub Pop first discovered King Tuff curled up in his palace in Vermont. It was basically
a shit hut made of moss, mud, and glimmering stones hidden near the graveyard,
and it was guarded by beautiful wild bullfrogs with silver fangs and baseball bats.

Punx, Squares, Skaters, Farmers, Bartenders, Grandparents, Stoners, Carpenters,
Hobos, Heshers, Babes, Babies, Plumbers, Strippers, Art Teachers, Teenagers, Townies,
Moms, Dads, Truck Drivers, and Witches will all love this record.

Every song on Black Moon Spell was written without giving a shining fuck about
    nothing.

Listen to Black Moon Spell, turn yr volume knob up to 666, put yr lover in a 69,
and let yr inner grinagog rear it's wicked, unwashed, smiling snake head.

    Listen to Black Moon Spell and give yr ears what they've been begging for all year;
a heavily weird, heavenly dark, hysterically magical Rock & Roll Sexperience.

ps. the only part of this story that isn't true is the part about the shit hut. I actually
was living at my parents' house when I was discovered. Love, KT
