Bankrupt!Phoenix have announced the release date for the Australian edition of their forthcoming record Bankrupt!, their first studio album in 4 years.
So far from the album, we've been treated to lead single Entertainment, a catchy indie rock number dressed in shiny synths, picking up where Phoenix last left off.
Guitarist Laurent 'Branco' Brancowitz has described Bankrupt! as an album of greater depth than previous Phoenix releases:
"This album has more layers. The more you listen, the more you hear, and the more you really understand what's going on. At the same time, we wanted it to be really fluid and simple like a sphere made of marble. You just see a sphere, but there's a guy who polished it for a year."
The follow-up to 2009s Grammy Award-winning Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, the French quartet have lofty expectations to live up to with Bankrupt!.1. Entertainment

Ti AmoTi Amo is Phoenix's first album since 2013's critically lauded Bankrupt!. Produced by the band and recorded at La GaîtÉ Lyrique (Paris) with the help of long-time collaborator Pierrick Devin, Ti Amo is - in the band's own words an album about simple pure emotions: love, desire, lust and innocence, it's also a record about our European, Latin roots, a fantasized version of Italy: a lost paradise made of eternal Roman summers (hyper-light, hyper-clarity, pistachio gelato), jukeboxes on the beach, Monica Vitti and Marcello Mastroianni, fearless desire and Antique marble statues.1. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, New Orleans's Meters churned out irresistible funk instrumentals that were distilled to their essence and intended to get people up and shaking. When the Josie label went bankrupt in 1971, the band moved over to the Reprise label and began to broaden their horizons, expanding their sonic palette and putting more emphasis on vocals. Cabbage Alley, their Reprise debut, finds them experimenting with tropical sounds (Soul Island), Allman Brothers-style guitar leads (Stay Away), Neil Young covers (Birds), and socially conscious lyrics (Lonesome and Unwanted People).

CBGB: Original Motion Picture SoundtrackWATCH OUT! PUNK IS COMING!
By the end of 1973, New York City was bankrupt, Watergate had compromised the credibility of the U.S. government, and the Carpenters were the bestselling
young recording act in America. Rock 'n' roll was dead!
Enter Hilly Kristal, who dreamed of running a country & blues bar in the Bowery. Instead, the club he opened, CBGB (Country, Bluegrass, Blues) became
the birthplace of punk and underground music. CBGB was the modern-day salon for the disenfranchised youth of New York City and Kristal gave these
young local bands a stage. Artists such as the Talking Heads, Blondie, Patti Smith, Ramones, Dead Boys and Television all started at this iconic club.
The story of Hilly Kristal and his legendary club will be coming to theaters this October when CBGB hits the big screen. The film has an all-star ensemble cast headed by Alan Rickman (the Harry Potter series, Die Hard) who plays Kristal. Co-starring with Rickman will be Malin Akerman (The Proposal,Suburgatory), Ryan Hurst (Sons Of Anarchy), Ashley Greene (The Twilight series), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Stana Katic (Castle) and
Rupert Grint (the Harry Potter series).
Omnivore Recordings is proud to present CBGB: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on CD and naturally, double-LP (with first pressing on translucent
pink vinyl). An essential collection of songs that made the punk movement, CBGB presents twenty slices of original American music, many rarely
compiled or unavailable for years. The soundtrack contains music from influential artists that informed the scene (The Velvet Underground, The Stooges
and MC5), to acts that broke through with huge commercial acclaim (Talking Heads, Blondie and The Police). And there's even music from bands whose
legendary status will forever be linked to the club that gave them a voice (Dead Boys, Television. Wayne County, The Dictators and more).

Of all the bands in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, Samson takes the woulda/coulda/shoulda been big stars prize.
The band's talent and theatricality were undeniable; guitarist and singer Paul Samson had replaced Bernie TormÉ (of Gillan fame) in the band Scrapyard before founding Samson, which soon enlisted the lead vocal talents of a certain Bruce Bruce a.k.a. Bruce Dickinson, soon to be of Iron Maiden. Throw in bassist Chris Aylmer and drummer Thunderstick, who performed inside a metal cage wearing a gimp style mask, and this was an outfit seemingly destined for big things.
But, constant promotional gaffes (e.g. booking them on tour with an ill-matched Robin Trower) led the band to terminate their contract with management, who promptly brought an injunction keeping them off the road. Then, their label(Gem) went bankrupt; as Dickinson says, they made every mistake in the business.
In the midst of all the turmoil, though, the band made its third and finest record, Shock Tactics, which was ably produced by AC/DC producer Tony Platt; but, as Iron Maiden was recording next door at Battery Studios in London, the two bands became friendly, and Dickinson left Samson for Iron Maiden just as Samson received big offers from A&M and RCA, which were instantly withdrawn upon his departure. So, classic music industry saga classic British Heavy Metal!

VenturaIn 2010, Antoine Hilaire and Florent Lyonnet released the first Jamaica album. Produced by Peter Franco, an American engineer known for his work with Daft Punk and Xavier de Rosnay, one half of Justice, 'No Problem' is boosted by a terrific single: 'I Think I Like U 2. Jamaica is taking off. Followed an almost two year tour, more than 150 shows around the world, and success from Paris to Tokyo.
Jamaica felt ambitious when it was time to start working on their second album, without any weight or pressure : "On the contrary! We felt extremely light. We only realised that in a way we had to write our second first album."
They started writing 'Ventura' in Paris, knowing they would start recording in Los Angeles, fed by both fantasies of American culture, gathered from records or movies, and the reality they discovered while touring several months in the U.S. "We often played in the U.S. during our first tour, and America as we know it now is not only spectacular and Hollywood-centered. It's also filled with clubs and cranked up amps."
When they tell about the month they spent with Peter Franco in a rented house in Los Angeles to give life to their new songs, Antoine and Florent mention a discovery in a literal sense: "We thought about for a while naming this album 'Pinta, Nina, Santa Maria', like Christopher Columbus's ships." In the end, they named it 'Ventura'. For the musicians, the name reminds of its literal translation of "luck" and "fate", but also of the 72 Pontiac and of course, of Ventura Boulevard, one of the biggest roads in the San Fernando valley. It's also on Ventura Boulevard that Peter Franco set a house into a studio, where Jamaica locked itself for a month, surrounded by instruments borrowed from local musician friends, sometimes recording vocal takes while friends would walk across the living room to get fresh beverages from the fridge, heading to the pool.
The duo is greeted with prestigious guests. One day, Tunde Adebimpe, TV On The Radio singer, sings soulful and worried vocals on 'Golden Times', another day, Chris Caswell, longtime collaborator of Paul Williams's gives them a hand with a few keyboard arrangements. Their friend DVNO writes and sings the song 'Goodbye Friday' with them in a few simple and entertaining work sessions.
Jamaica comes back to Paris, where Antoine and Florent take back the numerous tracks recorded in the U.S., helped by their producer friend Samy Osta and his 2001 studio. They listen, select, arrange the many layers of music Peter Franco led them to gather, under the influence of his recent work on Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories'.
Jamaica then settles in the Paris studio Tranquille Le Chat, where the owner Laurent d'HerbÉcourt just finished the recording of Phoenix's 'Bankrupt!'. Antoine and Florent find the perfect place to finish their record: it is bathed in daylight thanks to three large windows, which is seldom found in a studio. "To us, 'No Problem' shows a clubby and nightly aspect of the band, while 'Ventura' is meant to be the daylight album for Jamaica."
The band came in to record a few tracks, but never left the place or Laurent d'HerbÉcourt. They kept pushing in the direction they fancied in Los Angeles, helped by the huge Neve mixing desk that stands in the middle of the studio. The intent was to create a new depth to the band's sound, mixing electronic habits and an almost magical approach to analogue gear: "Depending on the moment of the day, the sound of analogue gear changes, machines heat up, like living things. It was very exciting for us, Jamaica being usually digitally driven."
Antoine and Florent's belief in a more organic sound was strengthened by Laurent d'HerbÉcourt: "While mixing, he definitely pushed us further towards a "radio" oriented direction, in the most noble and Fleetwood Mac sense of the word. A sunny pop that hides more sensibility when one really pays attention."
Songs like 'Two on Two', 'Golden Times', 'All Inclusive' or 'Ferris Wheeler' are fueled by this feel good music to listen to while driving along the Pacific Ocean. Other tracks reveal new leads for Jamaica, from 'Turbo' and 'Same Smile's' post surf music to 'Rushmore's' power balladry.

De La Soul were interrupted just before they could deliver the third volume in their AOI series -- projected to be a DJ album -- to Tommy Boy. (The label
perhaps bailed out from a 15-year relationship precisely because the group was going to release such a commercially bankrupt title, one that was planned
instead to appear on an independent label run by Maseo.) De La Soul quickly realized they couldn't go ahead with the plan after signing their AOI label to
Sanctuary, so they wrote a new record, The Grind Date. Although it may see them settling into a holding pattern, at least the pattern of 2001's AOI: Bionix
is one that any hip-hop fan won't mind hearing repeated. Better yet, it boasts productions from an excellent cast of figures -- partner in crime Supa Dave
West, author of the best tracks on their AOI series, J-Dilla, who's stretching out his patented (read: overdone) sound to embrace classic hip-hop, an only
slightly commercialized Madlib, and young phenom 9th Wonder. Madlib gets what must be the first lead single of his career, a bright, antimaterialist tale
called Shopping Bags (She Got From You) that thumps like a club tune, but lurches as only the Beat Conductor could do it. Verbal Clap finds J-Dilla
allowing some grit into his productions, and Supa Dave only continues floating the most fluidly catchy productions of any rap producer in action.
Meanwhile, De La Soul voices Posdnuos and Dave balance their time breezing easy on bumping message tracks with a few old-school shots that show
them a bit defensive about the passing of time. (Check out Come On Down, a Madlib-produced shot with Flava Flav, or Days of Our Lives featuring
Common.) Without a concept to tout, The Grind Date doesn't gel like AOI: Bionix, but it does show De La Soul keeping everything together more than 15
years after their debut. After all, you certainly wouldn't see MF Doom guesting on a Tone-Loc record. - Review By John BushLP 1
