180-Gram Light Blue Vinyl In Gatefold Jacket

Vinyl Includes 18x24 Poster With Artwork By David Barnes

Recorded At Sonic Ranch (Band Of Horses, Animal Collective)

Engineered by Drew Vandenberg (Kishi Bashi, Deerhunter)

"Whether exposing light or dark, or some blank hue in the middle,
Barnes has all but bulls-eyed his status as a brilliantly daring artist."
    - PASTE

"A thrilling, carnival-like atmosphere around Barnes' fractured perspective."
    - AV Club

"A golden despondency" is how Kevin Barnes translates the meaning behind
Aureate Gloom, the title he gave of Montreal's thirteenth full-length album.
The oxymoron is one Barnes says best describes the overall state of his life and
mental outlook while working on the record - penning lyrics so personal they
sound like entries ripped from a journal that should be permanently kept under
    lock and key.

"I was going through a very stormy period in my life and felt like I was just
completely trashed," reveals Barnes. "I might be guilty of sharing or exposing
too much of my private life, but to me the best albums are those that help
people connect with an artist on a deep, human level and that do so without
    too much artifice or evasiveness."

Aureate Gloom was recorded directly to tape with musicians Kevin Barnes
(guitar, vocals), Clayton Rychlik (drums), Bob Parins (bass), Bennett Lewis
(guitar), and JoJo Glidewell (keys), plus the help of engineer Drew Vandenberg.

The strength of the members' musical rapport was instantly apparent. The
group completed nearly a song a day and even wrote a brand new track
on the spot, "Apollyon Of Blue Room," whose title references a supposedly
haunted bedroom in a hacienda on the studio grounds. With Aureate Gloom,
of Montreal have created one of the most unflinching, confessional and starkly
    emotional albums in their career.

The genius of Lousy with Sylvianbriar is that it was created on a 24-track tape machine without the crutch of computer aided pitch correction, effects plug-ins and editing capabilities. With no computer tricks to fall back on, Kevin Barnes and the band
recorded most of the songs live in the same room together.

"I wanted the process to be more in line with the way people used to make albums in the late 60s and early 70s," reveals Barnes. "I wanted the songs to be more lyric-driven, and for the instrumental arrangements to be understated and uncluttered.

    Innocence Reaches

Of Montreal have announced their new album, Innocence Reaches. The group's 14th album follows the release of last year's studio effort, Aureate Gloom, and their live album, Snare Lustrous Doomings.

Frontman Kevin Barnes said the style of the group's new 12-song set developed from him listening to current music versus tapping into the past. Forever I've been detached from current music, he said in a statement. I got into this bubble of only being in some other time period. I came up picking apart the Beach Boys, the Beatles and symphonic pieces. But last year, I was hearing Jack Ü, Chairlift, Arca and others, thinking about low end and sound collage. It was an extra layer to geek out to.

On the new single, It's Different for Girls, which Zane Lowe premiered on his Beats 1 Radio program, the whimsical, quirky vibe is juxtaposed against the song's more serious socio-political themes about questionable gender norms. Barnes' lyrics include lines like when they are children, they're de-personalized, aggressively objectified and it's different for girls, they are mercurial creatures, not a masculine dissonance or sexual currency, which he sings over bouncy synths.

The cover art was conceived by Barnes' brother David, who is a new first-time father and expresses his wonderment for the female anatomy and was also inspired by trans issues, which Barnes said in a statement has always been a part of my identity as a human and is evidenced by his gender-bending in performances.

    In Roses

Second Full-length Release For Hardly Art

Recorded In Analog At Tiny Telephone In San Francisco

There are times when beauty and sadness are inextricably linked. Massachusetts-based Gem Club understands this fragile symmetry. The band-singer/pianist Christopher Barnes and his collaborators, cellist Kristen Drymala and vocalist Ieva Berberian-create music that is intimate, graceful, and filled with melancholy.

In 2009, Gem Club's primary songwriter Christopher Barnes began playing local solo shows. The enthusiastic reception led him to bring Drymala and Berberian into the fold, and the six-song Acid and Everything EP was self-released the following year. Breakers, their subsequent full-length, paired plaintive piano melodies with impressionistic lyrics. Made primarily in Barnes's bedroom, the album displayed how music, even at its most minimal and hushed, could be cathartic, even transcendent.

For the new In Roses, Gem Club have ventured beyond the isolation of the bedroom to record in San Francisco at John Vanderslice's analog studio Tiny Telephone. Barnes worked closely with arranger and conductor Minna Choi of The Magik*Magik Orchestra, who, Barnes says, "helped reshape the new songs in fresh and unimagined ways," The resulting album is more expansive, more majestic, than prior Gem Club releases. There are spacious, grand flourishes-the church-choir voices on "Idea for Strings"; the reverberating drumbeats that propel the melody of "Braid"-yet the music retains the intimacy of previous works.

Because In Roses is an album of haunting piano songs, it might seem felicitous to the listener that Christopher Barnes once lived in a disused Boston piano factory. Nights, from behind neighboring doors, he could hear strangers fighting, throwing loud parties, even shooting scenes for porn films. While life exploded around him, Barnes retreated, "trying to re-create these landscapes with music." But he is quick to note that In Roses takes a different approach to the landscapes of the world than before. "Whereas Breakers was more about the body and inward-gazing, the new album is about me looking out on relationships I've had or wish I've had." Many lyrics address "the crashing realization that lives are no longer happening the way we want." Other songs are elegies for those Barnes has idolized or loved, but has lost: "Soft Season" is inspired by the life and death of early-90s gay adult film actor Joey Stefano ("I'm a boy on my back," Barnes sings, "and I'm more of a man"); the harrowing closer "Polly" is a song he wrote about his relationship with his late aunt.

Beauty and Sadness is the title of a 1964 novel by the late Japanese writer Yasunari Kawabata, but the name could also serve to describe the music of Gem Club. During one scene of the book, Kawabata writes, "He heard a sound that only a magnificent old bell could produce, a sound that seemed to roar forth with all the latent power of a distant world." With In Roses, the beautiful and sad sounds of Gem Club come roaring forth with increasing power.

Of Montreals critical breakthrough Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? catapulted the band to the upper echelon of indie stardom. Their newest full-length False Priest finds mastermind Kevin Barnes teaming up with Grammy-nominated producer Jon Brion (Kanye West, Fiona Apple) at famed Ocean Way Recording (Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra).

False Priest is speaker rattling heavy on the low end and features appearances by Janelle Monáe and Solange Knowles (BeyoncÉs sister). The album also marks the return of organic instruments as live drums, strings and pianos eschew the midi sounds and sequencers of previous albums. Georgia

Georgia is the eponymous debut album by multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Georgia Barnes. Born and raised in north west London, the last few years have seen Georgia steadily establish herself as an important fixture in the city's most singular and imaginative artistic circles, playing drums for Kwes and Kate Tempest among others before emerging as an irresistible creative force in her own right with last year's Come In EP. Written, performed and produced by Barnes in its entirety, Georgia is the product of a young lifetime of voracious music listening - a bold, boundless 21st century amalgam that marks her out as an intuitive curator, distinctive songwriter of real spirit and self-taught producer of soulful, progressive and highly-defined electronic pop.

    Dear Bo Jackson

Serpents and Snakes is proud to announce the release of The Weeks full-length label debut, Dear Bo Jackson, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to their critically-praised EP, Gutter Gaunt Gangster.

The album was recorded with Grammy Award-nominated producer / engineer Paul Moak at his Nashville studio, The Smoakstack. Drawing inspiration from such iconic works as The Band's Music From The Big Pink, The Weeks enriched their well-seasoned sonic stew with the classic flavors of soul, R&B, funk, and heavy boogie to create their own unique take on contemporary Southern rock. Big brass, lush strings, and twangy pedal steel have been fused into the bands trademark sludge-pop sound, with Sam Williams' greasy guitars, the highly charged engine room of bassist Damien Bone and drummer Cain Barnes now officially joined by master keyboardist Alex Admiral Collier.

Throughout the album, songs like Brother In The Night and the exuberant title track see Cyle Barnes rending his throat raw as he tells dramatic and truthful tales of modern Southern lives, full of hope despite often punishing circumstances.
Dear Bo Jackson shows The Weeks to be not unlike the legendary athlete of the albums title: indisputable all-stars, capable of just about anything.

    Torment (Awaiting Repress)

Six Feet Under return with their 12th studio album and a leap in intensity. There's plenty of classic Six Feet Under groove to be had on Torment, but fans will note a much more aggressive approach, and even more modern blast beats throughout. This is a cantankerous Six Feet Under with absolutely nothing to prove. This is Six Feet Under at its most deadly.

Torment was brought to life by Chris Barnes with bassist/guitarist Jeff Hughell (Brain Drill) shouldering the load of writing the music, along with heralded drummer Marco Pitruzzella (Brain Drill, Anomalous, Sleep Terror). The combination of Barnes' multi-decade death metal experience and the speed and precision of Hughell and Pitruzzella's relative youth go a long way to cementing this as a solid foundation for high-level death metal. This is immediately apparent in the first track "Sacrificial Kill" and expanded further right away in the second track "Exploratory Homicide". Both Hughell and Pitruzzella are allowed to play their style of metal with a unique Six Feet Under flair. That's what makes "Torment" a unique and welcome addition to the band's stories catalog.

Chris Barnes elaborates on Torment: "I've been lucky to have a lot of standout albums in my career. That's only because I've had a great many talented writing partners and musicians to collaborate with. Our new album, Torment, to me, is one of those albums. Jeff Hughell has provided the flammable material for me to write some explosive lyrics and vocal parts to. I know people always say, "this is my best album ever", and I won't say that, because everyone has their own favorites, but I do enjoy creating new music, and I feel as though with this one we expressed concisely and to the fullest the duality of our music.

"I have also found it important over the years, going back to the start of my career, that the artwork for our albums gets to express, on some level, what the experience is within. To do that this time around we were able to incorporate an amazing new artist, Septian Devenum, to take on the task of visually bringing this album to life. Every song on the album is depicted with a piece of artwork that explores the lyrical content of each song, similar to what we did for the packaging for our album Bringer of Blood. Torment has been a great album to work on and help create, we hope all of our fans appreciate it."

Rose Hill Drive is made up of brothers Jake (vocals/bass) and Daniel Sproul (guitars/vocals) and Nate Barnes (drums). Somerville, Massachusetts' soft-focus pop group Gem Club features Christopher Barnes and his collaborators, cellist Kristen Drymala and vocalist Ieva Berberian. Together, they create cavernous-sounding piano-based ballads that, despite their earthly trappings, feel truly ethereal, as if they're being piped in from another planet bereft of gravity. Gem Club buries vague but revealing lyrics in delicate, sometimes somber, sometimes lighthearted melodies. There is a balance between pain and hope, a sense of growth and catharsis spawned from harder days, all complemented by the breathy vocals and symphonic instrumentation. Following their self-released six-song EP, Acid and Everything, Gem Club have made Breakers, their debut full-length album to be released via Hardly Art. Change Today?

    Import

Change Today? is the third studio album by the American rock band T.S.O.L. (True Sounds Of Liberty), released in 1984. It was the band's first album with singer/guitarist Joe Wood and drummer Mitch Dean, replacing founding members Jack Grisham and Todd Barnes who had left the band in late 1983.

The album was recorded using money loaned to T.S.O.L. by the Dead Kennedys, and found the new incarnation of the band moving away from the Hardcore Punk associations of the original lineup in favor of a traditional Rock and Gothic Rock sound.

Over the course of four nights at Mad Dog Studio in Venice, California T.S.O.L. recorded their new songs with recording engineer Stuart Schanwetter and producer Chris Grayson. The album was mastered by Eddy Schreyer.

    The King Is Dead

The King Is Dead is a mostly-acoustic set of 10 concise, Americana-based songs, that marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the Decemberists wildly ambitious and acclaimed 2009 song-cycle The Hazards Of Love. Produced once again by Tucker Martine, The King Is Dead features special guest appearances by Americana luminary Gillian Welch and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck.

The King Is Dead showcases the ways in which The Decemberists; Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query, and John Moen, sound just as glorious in simple, stripped-down compositions as they do on the elaborate structures that have defined their work for years. The album was recorded in a converted barn at Pendarvis Farm, an 80 acre estate of lush meadows, forest, and Mt. Hood views outside of Portland, and it was the concept of the barn, as recording space and as attitude, that informed the making of the album.

    I Want You

The thirteenth studio album by American soul musician Marvin Gaye, released March 16, 1976, on Motown-subsidiary label Tamla Records. Recording sessions for the album took place throughout 1975 and 1976 at Motown Recording Studios, also known as Hitsville West, and Gaye's personal studio Marvin's Room in Los Angeles, California. The album has often been noted by critics for producer Leon Ware's exotic, low-key production and the erotic, sexual themes in his and Gaye's songwriting. The album's cover artwork adapts neo-mannerist artist Ernie Barnes's famous painting The Sugar Shack (1971). I Want You consisted of Marvin Gaye's first recorded studio material since his highly successful and well-received album Let's Get It On (1973). While it marked a change in musical direction for Gaye, departing from his trademark Motown and doo-wop-influenced sound for funky, light-disco soul, the album maintained and expanded on his previous work's sexual themes. I Want You has earned retrospective recognition from writers and music critics as one of Gaye's most controversial works and influential to such musical styles as disco, quiet storm, R&B, and neo soul.

    The Simple Truth

Jeff Austin has been playing professionally for nearly 20 years, most of them as the vocalist/mandolinist of the game-changing bluegrass jam act Yonder Mountain String Band. Austin has long harbored urges to stretch out musically-and even cast a few pop hooks of his own. He finally makes the leap on The Simple Truth, his solo debut (releasing Feb. 10th, 2015) and maiden voyage with Yep Roc Records. Accompanying him is an eager troupe of trustworthy fellow travelers chartered as the Jeff Austin Band: Danny Barnes (of Bad Livers fame) on banjo, guitars and vocals; Ross Martin on guitars; and Eric Thorin on basses and vocals, with North Mississippi Allstar Cody Dickinson on drums, percussion and electric washboard. The result is an album that truly reflects Austin's goal of crafting a sonic document unconstrained by the limitations jamgrass, newgrass or whatever other names it wears. The Simple Truth captures the energy and excitement of that party, as well as the quiet moments of contemplation that happen after guests leave. If one must give it a label, Americana will do, but he prefers to call it, simply, "American music, written from my experience as a 40-year-old guy in America."
