    Bear Creek

Bear Creek is the newest release from singer/songwriter/guitarist Brandi Carlile who has been hailed as "the best voice in indie rock" by Paste Magazine. The lead track "That Wasn't Me," is a soulful piano-based song that showcases the warmth and subtle power of Carlile's vocals. It is the cornerstone of an earthy collection that embraces all of her musical influences: folk, pop, country, rock, gospel and blues. The album was named after the studio where most of the album was recorded, Bear Creek Studios, a converted early 20th century barn near Carlile's hometown of Seattle, WA.

The 13-song set features contributions from her longtime band mates: Tim and Phil Hanseroth ("The Twins," who co-wrote many of the songs with Carlile and play guitar and bass respectively), drummer/percussionist Allison Miller and cellist Josh Neumann plus Dave Palmer on keyboards and Jeb Bows on violin and mandolin. Drummer Matt Chamberlain guests on several tracks. Grammy winning engineer/producer/mixer Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Queens of the Stone Age) and Brandi and The Twins produced the Bear Creek Studios sessions. Frank Liddell (Miranda Lambert, Lee Ann Womack) and Jay Joyce (Cage the Elephant, Emmylou Harris) produced three tracks at Tragedy/Tragedy Studios in Nashville, TN.

Bear Creek follows Carlile's 2011 live album, Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony, which the Seattle Times called "breathtaking." It was recorded during the band's sold-out two-night stand at the prestigious venue in November of 2010. To date, Carlile has sold over 800,000 albums and has played over 700 live shows.

    My Name Is Bear

In news that will delight his loyal fans and followers, acclaimed artist Nahko of Medicine for the People has announced the release of his debut solo album, My Name Is Bear, which is set for release via Side One Dummy Records.

Spanning his formative years as an emerging artist traveling through the wild landscapes of Alaska, Hawaii, and Louisiana, My Name Is Bear is a collection of deeply personal songs that tell the tales of Nahko's awakening as an artist and his most revealing work yet.

"'My Name Is Bear' is actually the prequel to Medicine For The People. It's where this all began, before this chapter even started. I felt like I needed to retrace my steps before I could move forward," Nahko explains.

"I've been waiting for years on these songs, for the time to be right to release them. It's now."

Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper

Domino is pleased to announce the release of Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, the
fifth studio album from Animal Collective founding member and critically acclaimed solo artist Noah

Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear, has had a far-from-quiet few years with the release of his fourth solo
record, 2011's Tomboy. Since the breakout success of 2007's universally-adored Person Pitch, each new
Panda Bear release is a highly anticipated event, and a high-profile Daft Punk collaboration later ("Doin'
It Right," from 2013's Random Access Memories), that's more the case than ever.

Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper finds our hero leaving the airy minimalism of Tomboy and unpacking
his sonic toolbox again, rearranging the multitude of his disparate influences into the ever-morphing
concoction he refers to as "the soup." Old school hip-hop textures and production techniques meld with
the intuitive, cyclical melodies he has become known for a sound that is at once dense and playful.
The album signifies a pivotal point for an artist who has proven he can continue to evolve while
remaining at the top of his game. As Noah says, "It's sort of marking change - not necessarily an
absolute death, but the ending of something, and hopefully the beginning of something else."

    Get Thy Bearings

Robert Walter performs all his own stunts. For 20 years, the San Diego native has been pulling drawbars and pushing the limits of the Hammond B3 organ. As a founding member of the Greyboy Allstars, he helped usher in the funk-jazz renaissance of the early '90s and has continued to keep one hand comping chords in the instrument's funky past, while the other explores ever-new melodic terrain. On June 25, his long-standing project, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, returns with, Get Thy Bearings, via The Royal Potato Family. It was a recent move from New Orleans to Los Angeles that jump-started the 20th Congress who hadn't recorded a studio album in ten years. The nine-track effort presents Walter's organ, piano, Rhodes and synthesizer driving an all-star line-up rounded out by guitarist/bassist Elgin Park, drummer Aaron Redfield, sax players Karl Denson and Cochemea Gastelum, and percussionist Chuck Prada.

Get Thy Bearings is drenched in the vintage old school soul, funk and jazz vibe of Walter's heroes like Big John Patton, but it also reflects his recent work scoring films. There's a conceptual depth to the songwriting that draws on elements of narrative and character development, lending a cinematic color to the proceedings. The tracks range from the Sly Stone-style soul vamp of Little Business to the heavy gospel of Crux. Dog Party might as well be the theme song to a cartoon of the same name, while Don't Chin the Dog shifts from delicate shuffle to horn-drenched boogaloo. Things get eerie on Up From the Skies, a Jimi Hendrix cover rendered nearly unrecognizable in washes of electric Miles. Similarly, the album's title track is a shrewd reworking of the 1968 Donovan tune Walter first discovered on compilation of sample-friendly breakbeats, full of fuzz guitar and a mercurial organ solo.

    Periphery Ring Clamp

The Periphery Ring Clamp greatly improves the performance of VPI turntables by flattening the outer edges of LPs, increasing the cartridge's tracking ability, removing resonance and aiding detail retrieval. A massive ring designed to sit just outside the lead-in groove, the Periphery Ring Clamp's weight flattens the record onto the platter, eliminating edge warps and more completely coupling the record to the platter.

Scout, Aries 1 & 2, HW-19 & older TNT owners will need to purchase the HRX platter and bearing in order to use the Periphery Ring Clamp. Due to bearing height differences between the VPI models, please give us a call if you'd like to upgrade these components and we'll help you get the right bearing for your turntable.

    Young Prayer

Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear, a.k.a. one-fourth of the founding members of Animal Collective, has had a far-from-quiet few years since the release of his fourth solo record, 2011's Tomboy. Since the breakout success of 2007's universally-adored Person Pitch, each new Panda Bear release is a highly anticipated event, and with a high-profile Daft Punk collaboration later, that's more the case than ever. But if the title of his fifth solo album as Panda Bear seems to portend certain doom, think again. Taking his inspiration from '70s dub duo albums like King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown and Augustus Pablo Meets Lee Perry & the Wailers Band, Panda Bear prefers to frame his latest work as less of a battle and more a collaboration. "I see it [as] more comicbooky, a little more lighthearted," he says. "Like Alien Vs. Predator." Young Prayer is the second full-length solo album by Panda Bear. It was recorded in Panda Bear's childhood home in 2002 by Deakin and further produced by the mysterious Animal Collective brothers known as Come Winter. It was originally released in 2004 on Paw Tracks as PAW2.

  • Shields Shields Quick View

Shields is the fourth and most anticipated Grizzly Bear album to date. After long spans of shows headlining (as well as supporting Radiohead, Feist,
Wilco and Paul Simon), Grizzly Bear's members Chris Bear, Ed Droste, Daniel Rossen and Chris Taylor lived their own lives. Trips were taken, and friendships were restored; families were visited, and solo projects were finished. The potential energy gathered in tour vans and buses, in studios
and on stages for years was finally released, giving the individual band's pieces the chance to recover and, after a year, return to being Grizzly Bear.

The whole band wrote songs together, taking each other's ideas and extending them. And for the first time, they tended to move forward only with the
songs that were most open to true quartet collaboration. Asked which tunes on Shields belong to which songwriter, every member balks and explains
that, for the first time, these are actually full-band numbers. Both in process and product, this is Grizzly Bear as they've never been.

"This has a different energy behind it," concludes Droste. "Veckatimest was a little more of a polite album; the desire to keep the vocals smooth might have kept a little distance between us and the audience. This one feels a bit more rough and exposed, so that on Shields, everything speaks for itself."

Bear Mountain's electro/dance style blends syncopated bass lines and arpeggiated synth chords with live instrumentation and soaring vocals to produce a style that is unmistakably fresh and powerfully captivating.

With a vocal timbre reminiscent of Ray Lamontagne, and an emotive, spacious sensibility in the vein of Damien Rice, Bear Mountain performs with powerful release and vulnerable honesty.

Certain songs make you feel younger. It's something more than nostalgia; there's a joyous enthusiasm in some music that doesn't bring you back to the time you were young, but back to the sensation of being young. With the six songs on their debut album, xo, Vancouver duo Bear Mountain achieve this heart-pumping, smile-widening freedom, parsing the elements of dozens of genres and times and spinning them around until the listener becomes gleefully dizzy. - Adam Kivel

On their sixth album VOIDS, Minus the Bear started with a blank slate, and inadvertently found themselves applying the same starting-from-scratch strategies that fueled their initial creative process.

Album opener Last Kiss immediately establishes the band's renewed fervor. An appropriately dizzying guitar line plunges into a propulsive groove before the chorus unfolds into a multi-tiered pop chorus. From there the album flows into Give & Take, a tightly wound exercise in syncopation that recalls the celebratory pulse of early Bear classics like Fine + 2 Pts while exploring new textures and timbres. Invisible is arguably the catchiest song of the band's career, with Jake Snider's vocal melodies and Knudson's imaginative guitar work battling for the strongest hooks. What About the Boat? reminds us of the math-rock tag that followed the band in their early years, with understated instrumentation disguising an odd-time beat. Erase, recalls the merging of forlorn indie pop and electronica that the band dabbled with on their early EPs, but demonstrates the Bear's ongoing melodic sophistication and tonal exploration. By the time the band reaches album closer Lighthouse, they've traversed so much sonic territory that the only appropriate tactic left at their disposal is a climactic crescendo, driven at its peak by Cory Murchy's thunderous bass.

Not since Planet of Ice's Lotus has the Bear achieved such an epic finale. All in all, it's an album that reminds us of everything that made us fall in love with Minus the Bear in the first place, and a big part of that appeal is the sense that the band is heading into uncharted territories.

In poll after poll, this LP is hailed as one of the greatest records of all time and quite possibly the greatest live recording ever made. And now this 1964 classic makes a welcome reappearance on vinyl. Jerry Lee Lewis was never in better form, and his backing group, the Nashville Teens try to keep up as he jumps from one classic to another. His reading of Your Cheating Heart is still definitive and Whole Lotta Shakin' is arguably one of the greatest version ever recorded.

Forty-five years later, we can re-live that night on the Reeperbahn. For those who bought the original LP, Bear Family's remastering will enable you to listen to it anew, for those who missed it, there's no excuse now. As a bonus, Bear Family has included one song, Down The Line, missing from the original LP. And when you open the gate-fold cover, there's a large street map (60 x 60cm / 24 x 24) of Hamburg's St. Pauli quarter showing the Reeperbahn and Star-Club. This exclusive full-color graphic was designed by Ulf Harten, a well-known artist and friend of Bear Family.

Nashville, in the case of Moonfire - generated its share of magic, but Hosking and his fellow Boy & Bears wanted to bring it
all back home, to get back to where their musical journey began in 2009. His band mates Tim Hart, Killian Gavin, Jon Hart and
    David Symes, agreed.

The record in question, Harlequin Dream went on to debut at #1 in Australia. The bold and brave new album was recorded
in their hometown of Sydney at legendary Alberts Studio and mixed by Phil Ek (Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Modest
Mouse). The lead single, "Southern Sun," has a powerful urgency not unlike the best of Bruce Springsteen or Fleetwood
Mac, while a sprinkling of strings and brass brings life and color to such standouts as "Back down the Black," "Old Town
    Blues" and "Stranger."

Boy & Bear's debut record Moonfire took the band to some places they never thought they'd see, including several tours
of Europe and America, and went on to win five ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year.
