Black Out The SkyMetallic skate punk vets Strung Out are releasing a new acoustic EP, Black Out The Sky, on via Fat Wreck Chords. It features six new songs, as well as acoustic renditions of classics "Unkoil" and "Matchbook." Town of Corazon," is exactly the kind of song you want when you hear a skate punk band is going acoustic. It's still got choppy power chords, a big anthemic chorus, and punky melodic leads, just with a more tender approach. Singer Jason Cruz tells us the song "is about the heart as if it were a place. The corridors and the people and memories that live there. They say all things actually originate from the heart. It's the first organ to develop in the womb and everything is built around it."

City Wrecker EPHello everyone and anyone.
I recently made some more recordings under the name Moonface, which take the form of a 5 song EP called City Wrecker, and run at around half an hour.
City Wrecker is the title track of the ep. I wrote it before Miley Cyrus released "Wrecking Ball", but I cannot prove it. Oh well. In describing the song (and maybe the whole EP) I would say it's the aesthetic opposite of "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus, which is not to say that's a good thing or a bad thing, just an apple for you to hold up beside your orange. Regardless of all that, my friend Eetu, who recorded this EP, still likes to call the song "Wrecking Ball" and to sometimes call me Miley, but that's okay cuz we're buddies.
I lived in Finland for a couple of years, but now I live in a little town nestled in the woods of Vancouver Island. This is a recent move, and so City Wrecker represents the last album I completed in Helsinki. Maybe I will go back to that big icy lighthouse, and all the lovely weirdos within I have come to love, one day, but for now I have used it up.
I have a tendency to wreck the places I live. I am a luster scraper; a green grass imaginer. I wreck places emotionally, as in, even though they stay the same objectively, they somehow worsen in my heart. I wreck their meaning, and so ultimately their function. No more crackling inspiration. I waste my own time. I get bored. I turn gardens into dust bowls.
And I am a city wrecker not just for myself, but for those close to me as well, for my wrecking is a quiet and creeping poison that is hard to identify; hard to see coming through my mist of moods. I fuss, and then still am dissatisfied, making my loved ones feel sad and helpless, angry and confused, and perhaps most terribly, responsible. Though of course they are blameIess and magnificent.
I suppose this is why I have moved so many times in my life. It is not a good characteristic, and one I should work toward eradicating from my personality. But having regret is also unhealthy. So, I am Popeye?
Anyway, all of the songs on this ep, in one way or another, are about places. Going in and going out. Regret and hope. The past and the future. Ducking out early from your own farewell party. That's why it's called City Wrecker.

Yonkers NYIf a songwriter of some accomplishment who is also a singer predominantly known for his work in country music was looking for a subject for a deeply personal cycle of songs, it's pretty unlikely that Yonkers, New York, a small city bordering on New York City's borough of the Bronx, would be the subject.
Not, of course, unless the writer is Chip Taylor, who grew up there. With Yonkers, NY, Taylor, a veteran songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, the Hollies and, of course, the Troggs (who waxed his first big hit, Wild Thing), has gone back to his childhood and adolescence and come up with eleven songs filled with warmth and humor, enlivened with spoken reminiscences and packaged with a book of lyrics and vintage photos of the people and places that are their subjects. The songs on Yonkers, NY take us into Taylor's family life and into his discovery of music, horses and girls, opening these subjects up with a skill only a master songwriter can summon.

Last Chance To Dance (Awaiting Repress)While Fat has a long history of bands influenced BY the Ramones (Chixdiggit!, Teenage Bottlerocket, Masked Intruder, Screeching Weasel), releasing an album FROM an actual Ramone is a first and a true honor. Last Chance to Dance is CJ Ramone's second solo album and was recorded with the stellar backing band of Steve Soto (Adolescents), Dan Root (Adolescents), and David Hidalgo, Jr. (Social Distortion). With a sound and style true to the Ramones, CJ has created a positively infectious punk rock record. Sometimes you just "need a Ramones fix," the expression goes, and CJ Ramone's Last Chance to Dance satisfies that craving in spades. And now, a word from the man himself, CJ RAMONE:
Hey kids CJ Ramone here. My new record Last Chance to Dance is coming out November 25th!!! It's 12 tracks of everything you'd expect from a CJ Ramone record. Hard chargin' and vicious with some sweet melodies to smooth out the edges. Keep an eye for dates for our 2015 World Tour. See y'all on the big road.

1755Dark Metal's finest art project MOONSPELL outclasses all standards with their colossal new release 1755. The twelfth record from these Portuguese gothic masters is an orchestral adventure including siren like choirs with a Wagnerian pomp! Strings, bongos, Oriental singing, grand guitars are just a tiny part of this amazing piece of work. From the first superincumbent second, the conceptual dramaturgy of MOONSPELL's work feels like a detonation of the mind. Playful and mean-spirited. 1755 is their magnum opus.
This musical masterpiece represents the year of horror where a giant earthquake wrecked their home of Lisbon. Naturally, this album is sung completely in Portuguese. The album features Paulo Bragança, supplying a hauntingly voice of a Fado fallen angel who is a big part of the Portuguese culture. His fascinating vocals are featured in In Tremor Dei (Eng.: Fear Of God). 1755 is an adventure in medieval landscapes full of threats, guarded by stirring hymns including the bad luck Desastre. Choirs filled with fear stab into the wild disharmony of the guitars. The album is emotionally, technically and completely breathtaking!1. Em Nome Do Medo

Ripe Dreams, Pipe DreamsCameron Avery has arrived as a new breed of nocturnal crooner, a train-wreck romantic creating timeless, ambitious music for the modern age. Utilizing his soulful wit, shrewd arrangements, and a deep, husky baritone, Avery harnesses the dark power and humor of artists like Nick Cave, Scott Walker, and Tindersticks to expertly walk the fine line between vulnerable and venerable.
Hailing from the late 2000s-era Perth, Australia, a healthy scene of hard-hitting garage rock bands, including a long stint as the drummer of Pond, Avery found his musical footing while playing with friends but sought the reward of his own outfit. Encouraged by his friend Kevin Parker of Tame Impala to record on his own, Avery started The Growl as his solo project in 2007, making an EP and an album of aggressive, distorted psychedelic rock and roll. When Parker asked him to join Tame Impala as its touring bassist in 2013, Avery jumped at the chance and rose with that band to the top of the psych-rock heap, but all the while remained focused on carving out his singular identity as an artist and following his own muse.
On a break from touring, Avery decided to head to the US to work on his album. He would settle in Los Angeles at the behest of Jonathan Wilson, the Echo Park musician and producer who also encouraged Avery to shine a spotlight on his baritone singing voice, unlike the snarling, obscured vocals of The Growl. It was a lofty idea, but one to which Avery aspired, encouraged by the challenge.
Melancholic machismo is written into the very DNA of Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams. From the classical, finger-picked guitar on the opener "A Time and Place" and the orchestral vamping of "Do You Know Me By Heart?" to the bombastic, self-assured swagger of "Dance with Me." He takes an emotive page from the Leonard Cohen songbook-of-longing on "Big Town Girl" just as naturally as he thumbs an aggressive note of Bad Seed strut and Cramps rut on "Watch Me Take It Away." And by the time he purrs that earnest refrain of "Baby, it's you" on the album's closer "C'est Toi," Avery has surely mastered that drunken tightrope dance. Now a resident of New York City, Avery looks to continue his search for the ultimate sensations from a fresh vantage point.1. A Time and Place
