    Welcome Back To Milk

It's time for a revolution. Beth Jeans Houghton is dead. Du Blonde is born.
Welcome Back To Milk is the Newcastle-born singer-songwriter's second
album, but her debut as Du Blonde, and it's a complete reinvention: new name,
new look, new band, new attitude - and attitude is a key word.

Du Blonde is not a persona or a character, it's Beth Jeans Houghton ripping
it up and starting again. Gone is the baroque chamber pop of 2012's Yours
Truly, Cellophane Nose. Gone is the band she recorded that album with,
The Hooves Of Destiny. In place of all that are heavy riffs, loud drums, vocal
aggression and the sound of somebody finding their voice, whether screaming
the chorus of Chips To Go, singing soul-bearing ballad Four In The Morning
or cooing through wistful torch song After The Show.

Aside from a track made with Youth, Welcome Back To Milk is produced by
Jim Sclavunos, who knows plenty about capturing dark sounds as a member
of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds. An unmistakable presence on the album is that of
Future Islands frontman Samuel T Herring, whose soaring vocals appear on
    Mind Is On My Mind.

Where Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose threw everything at a song, Du Blonde
strips everything down to the bare essentials. Black Flag, which opens the
album, is bass, guitar, drums and a dose of rage. "I got really into hard rock
and American hardcore while I was living in LA after we finished touring," she
says. "I couldn't work out why I was having such trouble expressing myself with
the music I was writing, but after a while I realised the instrumentation didn't
lend itself to the anger I was feeling. I needed to release all of this pent up
aggression and I was trying to do it over layers of vocal harmonies and nicely
played instruments. It was never going to work."

"I was hiding behind my guitar for so long, it was easy to feel safe there. I
wanted to put myself in a position I wasn't comfortable with in order to grow
as a performer. I want no choice but to look people dead in the eyes and give
    them all I have."

    The Record

Along with Black Flag and The Circle Jerks, Fear ushered in a new face of gritty, fast, angry punk rock which would later be called hardcore by some dedicated fans. While Black Flag and The Circle Jerks represented west coast inner suburb, art damaged nerds, Fear offered a sometimes sophisticated, sometimes offensive, always musically innovative antagonism that owed as much to stand up comedy and college boy saracasm as it did to the glam punk bands who came before them. Keep in mind that Fear was reportedly one of John Belushis favorite punk bands and he even managed to get them booked on an episode of SNL. Featuring: Lets Have A War and I Love Living In The City.

    Jealous Again

When the four-song vinyl EP Jealous Again came out in 1980, Black Flag had yet to provide a full-length LP or hire Henry Rollins as its vocalist. But even in those pre-Rollins days, Black Flag was regarded as one of the most important bands on the Los Angeles punk scene - and rightly so. In fact, it's safe to say that no 1980 release captures the raw, explosive anger of L.A. punk better than Jealous Again. Black Flag's second vocalist, Chavo Pederast (the one who came after Keith Morris and before Rollins), has no problem expressing his rage on such in-your-face classics as 'No Values,' 'White Minority,' 'Revenge,' and 'You Bet We've Got Something Against You!.' In 1980, some fans of corporate rock couldn't begin to understand the appeal of a punk band like Black Flag and dismissed this EP as unmusical. But to criticize Jealous Again (whose contents would, in the 1990s, be placed on SST's CD reissue of Damaged) for its lack of chops or technique completely misses the point: punk wasn't about technique, it was about feeling. Punk was rock and roll stripped down to its rawest, most naked, gut-level emotions. And on this EP, those emotions make for some compelling moments. - All Music Guide

Along with his role in the Black Flag reunion project FLAG, Keith Morris also fronts supergroup OFF!, featuring Dimitri Coats (Burning Brides), Mario Rubalcaba (Hot Snakes/Rocket From the Crypt/Earthless), and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross). Following their 2012 self-titled release, the next OFF! record, Wasted Years, will be out in 2014 through Vice. The album cover, features art by legendary Black Flag/Sonic Youth cover artist Raymond Pettibon. The 16 tracks on Wasted Years were tracked live to tape at OFF's practice space, recorded as they were written. According to a press release, the record has a thematic darkness to it.

    Project 1950 (Awaiting Repress)

Patriotism may be the last refuge of scoundrels, but nostalgia traditionally puts bread on the table for succeeding generations of rock musicians long after the hits stop coming. If 25th anniversary celebrations--the excuse for this Misfits roots covers collection--seem the very antithesis of punk, they're but another golden marketing opportunity for Jerry Only, the sole original band member still standing and arguably the Energizer Bunny of ghoul-punk. Teamed here with Marky Ramone and ex-Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena, Only turns his band's beloved PG-13 thrash-horror shtick loose on an oddball collection of his '50s and '60s musical inspirations. And just when you thought irony was passÉ, Only croon-howls it undead with fervent renditions of This Magic Moment by Jay & the Americans, Paul Anka's frothy Diana, and Conway Twitty's Only Make Believe.

Black Mountain (10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

    Limited Edition Grey Vinyl

It's only a clichÉ because it's true, but the greatest records are timeless. Black Mountain's self-titled debut
album is just such a record. It is a new classic rock, with reference points arcane and clear, its sound fresh,
unfamiliar and irresistible. The work of a small collective of musicians operating from Vancouver, Canada,
far from any industry buzz but firmly in the eye of their own storm of creativity, Black Mountain's debut
album was, of course, a beginning, but it also marked an ending.

Begun as the fourth album for Jerk With A Bomb, the 4-track bedroom project turned non-rock band led
by Stephen McBean that preceded Black Mountain, the songs grew from skeletal sessions cut by McBean
and Josh Wells and honed on the road in empty North American clubs along with Amber Webber. "We'd lay
down the bed tracks, the guitars and drums," remembers McBean. "Matt [Camirand, bass] joined, and we
changed the band name after a dream of how life could be different in the B section between Black Flag and
Black Sabbath. Josh's roommate Jeremy [Schmidt, keys] was lurking about. We asked him if he wanted to
add some synth bleeps or whatever. He came back with all these orchestrated keyboard parts, and we said,
'Oh, you should probably join the band now.'"

They cut the album at the Hive and their jam space in Vancouver, recording in "a big cement room with a
tall ceiling, nice boomy acoustics, lots of natural reverb, on an 8-track reel-to-reel tape recorder." During the
sessions, these elemental first tracks found their true shape: wry & giddy, hypnotic & gracefully heavy, the
dark and powerful blues, and mysterious chugging murk.

The album's initial success saw the band take to the road, leaving their Vancouver enclave for stages across
the world. "It felt like there was a real explosion of excitement at shows," remembers McBean. "We wouldn't
write setlists, we'd just feel the energy in the room and call things out, jamming on songs like 'No Hits' and
'Druganaut.' It was a good time for live rock'n'roll: DJ booths were being transformed back to drum risers,
people were digging 20 minute heady jams and there were bands like Comets On Fire and Oneida out there
who we felt kinship with. I was into Faust and Amon Duul but had no idea of the scene of modern bands
doing that stuff. And then we met those bands, and it was cool. And then we went on tour with
    Coldplay and the adventures continued.

Their jaunt across the world as guests of perhaps the biggest band in the world is a tale for another time,
perhaps: the start of Black Mountain's next chapter, and all that followed. For now, savor the compact,
spacey brilliance of that cosmic, heavy and subtle debut album, expanded now with a raft of delicious bonus
tracks scavenged from the Black Mountain Army archives.

    Import

Music On Vinyl are thrilled to unleash the fourth studio album from Venice Beach, L.A. heavyweights Suicidal Tendencies, Lights Camera Revolution (1990).

Album opener and unmistakable anthem You Can't Bring Me Down - S.T.'s rally against vicious rumours and their notorious ban from playing public places in L.A. - sets the tone for the record, with 'Cyco' Mike Muir's lyrics of social commentary handled with intelligence, humour and a punk rock middle-finger. Lights Camera Revolution boasts the line-up now deemed classic. Suicidal's flirtation with the mainstream (complete with obligatory criticism of 'selling-out') went Gold in the US with over half a million copies sold, and to this day remains an essential record in any Metal or Punk collection.

Same Thoughts Different Day (Awaiting Repress)

Legendary Canadian punk group Subhumans emerged from the 1978 font of creativity that produced DOA and The Pointed Sticks. They have been part of the Alternative Tentacles family since being included on the infamous Let Them Eat Jellybeans compilation and played shows with Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Black Flag, and Bad Brains.

Their first album Incorrect Thoughts was released on Vancouver label Friends Records in 1980. They always planned to make their older material available again, but a now defunct San Francisco label had issued an unauthorized version of Incorrect Thoughts in the '80s which substituted some remixes without the band's knowledge, included tracks which hadn't made the cut for the original album, and changed the cover art. It was an unpleasant mystery for the band and three decades later the former owner of that label was asserting ownership over the original album, preventing its re-release without an expensive and contentious legal tussle.

The Subhumans decided to meet the challenge to their ownership of their own material by rerecording all of the songs from the Incorrect Thoughts album, which they proceeded to do at the Hive Studios in Vancouver, assisted by Jesse Gander. Original members Brian Goble (vocals), Gerry Hannah (bass), Mike Graham (guitar), and newly-recruited drummer Jon Card (formerly with Personality Crisis, SNFU, and DOA among others) got together in 2005 to record a new album of original material, New Dark Age Parade, for Alternative Tentacles (Virus366) and the band had reactivated into a live entity. The intent was neither to slavishly recreate the old recordings nor to radically reinterpret the songs, but updating the sounds and the recording techniques while maintaining the original spirit of the album. As a bonus, Subhumans recorded six additional songs from the same period for the second 12 of a two LP set, some of which had never been recorded before!

Redd Kross is back and delivering their signature brand of genuine rock 'n' roll with a vengeance. Their Merge release Researching the Blues is the band's first new album in 15 years. Researching the Blues features 10 new songs clocking in at just under 32 minutes. With songs written by Jeff McDonald and produced and mixed by Steven McDonald, the album is by far the band's favorite record. Steve says, "It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we've done. It's just 10 really fucking awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways."

Founded 34 years ago in Los Angeles during the first wave of LA punk rock by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald (then respectively 15 and 11 years old), Redd Kross cut their teeth opening for Black Flag at a middle school graduation party. Their debut recordings caught the attention of Rodney Bingenheimer, who quickly became a fan as he spun their Ramones-inspired songs like "Annette's Got The Hits" and "I Hate My School" on the world-famous KROQ.

In 2006, Jeff and Steven announced their reunion with the "classic Neurotica" line-up, joined once again by guitarist Robert Hecker (It's Ok) and drummer Roy McDonald (The Muffs). Redd Kross have been playing to enthusiastic audiences at sold-out select shows and festivals such as the Azkena Festival; Coachella; The HooDoo Gurus' Invitational, "Dig It Up"; All Tomorrow's Parties; and Pop MontrÉal.

    Black Power Flower

BRANT BJORK, as cult figure of the Palm Desert scene, was founder / drummer of the now defunct Stoner-Rock legends Kyuss and is a permanent member of Vista Chino (formerly KYUSS Lives!). Now, he is sailing under his own flag, proving once again that his multi-instrumental skills know no creative boundaries. With his excellent occupied Low Desert Punk Band, Bjork lets the scorching heat of Nevada shimmer in his songs. He also scrubs his guitar through all sorts of psychedelic effect pedals and skillfully mixes Stoner Rock, Blues and Doom-bonds to a feverish hazy brew.
