Black Fire! New Spirit!Soul Jazz Records' new release Black Fire! New Spirits! Explores deep, radical and spiritual jazz in the USA in the period between 1957-75. In the 1960s and into the 1970s, jazz music in the USA was in an almost constant state of revolution, with the music and lives of African-American artists radicalised by the advent of the civil rights movement, Black Power, and a new spiritual awakening. For over 20 years now Soul Jazz Records have been exploring this rich area of deep and spiritual jazz music with an array of albums such as Freedom, Rhythm and Sound, Universal Sounds of America, New Thing, Soul Jazz Love Strata East and more. Soul Jazz Records have also released a steady stream of reissues of lost and classic deep jazz releases over the years from artists such as Art Ensemble of Chicago, Steve Reid, Pharaoh Sanders and others. This new album features groundbreaking and revolutionary artists such as Don Cherry, Archie Shepp, The Last Poets and Yusef Lateef as well as many rare and deep lost tracks from lesser known artists such as Creative Artists Ensemble, Granchan Moncur, Lloyd McNeill, Tyrone Washington and others.1. Includes 4-Page Booklet
Black Beauty, Miles Davis At Fillmore West, was recorded on April 10, 1970 at Fillmore West, San Francisco, when Davis performed as the opening act for the Grateful Dead. The recording took place shortly after the release of Miles' classic album Bitches Brew. The album was released in 1973, originally in Japan only.
Black Beauty, a true jazz-rock album, captured one of Davis' first performances at a rock venue during the early stages of his electric period. At the concert, he led his band (saxophonist Steve Grossman, bassist Dave Holland, keyboardist Chick Corea, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and percussionist Airto Moreira) through one continuously performed set list.
The songs in the band's setlist were as followed: Directions, Miles Runs the Voodoo Down, Willie Nelson, I Fall In Love Too Easily, Sanctuary, It's About That Time, Bitches Brew, Masqualero, Spanish Key, and The Theme. They were performed as one continuous and uninterrupted piece of music, a practice Davis had begun in 1967. He later explained in his autobiography that performing these kinds of long musical suites without breaks allowed more space for improvisations in concert.
The original Japanese booklet is included in this vinyl package.LP 1

The legendary Weather Report set the music world on fire back in the early seventies with their hypnotic blend
of progressive-fused jazz with funk, prog-rock and soul, augmented with the brilliant and skillful musicianship of their
superstar founders Wayne Shorter on saxophone and various electronic reeds and the late great Joe Zawinul on a
stunning array of keyboards and electronic instruments. Both of these legendary musicians/composers worked with
Miles Davis on his classics like Bitches Brew, plus solid tenures with legends like Cannonball Adderley (Zawinul) and
Art Blakey (Shorter) all of which would prove to become the huge catalyst for things to come.
Throughout the remainder of the late seventies and beyond, Weather Report's fine arsenal of recordings would
take the band to the top of all the popular music charts. The 1976 fusion classic Black Market would go on to yield
one of the biggest albums of their career as it hit the top rungs of the jazz charts, plus major showings in the pop and
R&B charts. Black Market also introduced the world to the late great bassist legend Jaco Pastorius.
No stone is left unturned, as this masterpiece is loaded with hit after hit with smashes like Joe Zawinul's title
track Black Market, the powerful Elegant People by Wayne Shorter and of course Zawinul's tribute to his recently

As one of the most enduring albums in their massive career catalog, Black Market also features the all-star
line-up of Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius (bass), Chester Thompson (drums) and Alex Acuna (percussion).

Du Jazz Dans Le RavinLimited Edition Vinyl With ACV Quality
Gainsbourg, the original bad boy of French pop, the man who updated the French chanson and made it hip again infusing it with the youth culture of the late 50s and 60s, ruled by jazz, drugs and free love. Very different from his celebrated later works, the music captured on this limited edition vinyl edition finds Gainsbourg mixing traditional chanson and big-band jazz rather than the avant garde pop that went on to define his career outside of France. This record presents a revealing insight into the early years of this iconic figure.
Audiophile Clear Vinyl
Audiophile Clear Vinyl is made using the highest quality co-polymer available and processed without any carbon additive in order to dramatically reduce the "electrical distortion" often found on records. By itself the co-polymer of vinyl is transparent. In order to make the record black in color the plant must use a carbon additive with trace metals that can become magnetized. This is what causes electrical distortion during playback. That is the reason why we choose to offer our records in the following manner:

Black Night Is Falling - Live at The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club (Pre-Order)Black Night Is Falling finds John Lee Hooker in fine voice and backed by a driving band composed of John Garcia on guitar, Steve Jones on bass, and Larry Wild Man Martin on drums, with the end result being an excellent example of Hooker at his best. Highlights include impressive romps through Hooker's signature tunes, Boom Boom, which simply blazes with raw energy here, and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer, which is delivered as a wonderfully paced barroom cautionary tale. This is what the live Hooker sounded like with a sympathetic band behind him, a band that luckily wasn't afraid to push him a little. After the first song, Hooker says "I want to tell you one thing. This is the best blues club in town", and from it's opening in 1975, and for more than a decade later, The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club brought the best blues, jazz, Cajun, and salsa players from around the world to Montreal.1. Featuring Marvin Gaye And Paul Carrack
First Time On Vinyl!
Originally released in March 2007, Sex 'n' Jazz, starring Marvin Gaye, Paul Carrack, and Erik Truffaz, immediately captured the public's attention and became an overnight success for Dutch groove jazz band Gare du Nord. Tracks like Marvin & Miles, You're My Medicine and Beautiful Day would become instant classics and kick-started a new jazz pop wave in The Netherlands.
The appeal of the album was also recognized by jazz label Blue Note and in 2009 a remixed version of the album hit the shelves. With the key tracks, originally mixed in the chill mode, dramatically remixed in club soul style, the blue label parachuted Sex 'n' Jazz into platinum heaven.
This 2017 expanded edition brings together both the Blue Note remix album master and the original vintage album master from early 2007 for the very first time. State of the art remastered, this landmark edition of Sex 'n' Jazz sounds as crispy as ever. This must be the ultimate fan experience to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the trendsetting club soul masterwork and its prelude.
Ten years after its original release, the album is now available on vinyl for the first time. The first limited, individually numbered edition is pressed on white vinyl. Only 1,000 copies available.

Black Talk! The young organist Charles Earland converted the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" into an anthem called "Black Talk" and came up with one of the huge soul-jazz hits of the early Seventies. In this album, Earland worked the same magic with two other pop songs, "Aquarius" and "More Today than Yesterday," giving them the urgency and forward movement of R&B but managing to inject them with jazz values. He was greatly aided by a pair of soloists-trumpeter Virgil Jones and tenor saxophonist Houston Person-who added fuel to Earland's fiery concept. Guitarist Melvin Sparks and the quintessential soul jazz drummer Idris Muhammad helped keep the blaze going. It is not coincidence that his blues composition, and Earland himself, were called "The Mighty Burner."
Black Talk! went on to become an enormous hit, spending most of 1970 on the best-seller charts.1. Black Talk

Black GoldIn 1969, the High Priestess Of Soul, Nina Simone, descended onto the stage of the Philharmonic Hall in New York to record her new live-album, Black Gold.
It became a legendary performance, with the first recording of the Civil Rights song 'To Be Young, Gifted And Black',
a song which is not addressed to white people primarily. Though it doesn't put you down in any way...it simply ignores you. For my people need all the inspiration and love that they can get.
Black Gold also contains a rendition of Sandy Denny's 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes,' in a minimalist arrangement that ends in an uplifting orchestration true to both the writer of the song and the performer. Throughout the entire performance Ms Simone keeps a regal, aloof and sometimes goofy composure, her monologues in between songs ushering the listener a little closer to her moving performance.
Her eclectic style takes us past a number of different music forms; past Soul and Gospel and Folk, Jazz and Broadway; her androgynous and distinctive timbre floats somewhere between melancholy and bliss, and yet we always feel that Ms Simone is taking us exactly where she wants us to go.
Overall, Black Gold is a poignant and touching album from the peak of her performing and recording period that should not be overlooked.1. Introduction

Black MarketWeather Report was one of the most influential jazz-fusion groups of their era, and outlasted many of its contemporaries such as Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and The Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Despite many personnel changes over its 16 year lifespan, they continued to create groundbreaking music under the guidance of Joe Zawinul.
Bandmembers Zawinul, Shorter and Moreira all played the bands of Miles Davis and at first Weather Report was a direct extension of Miles' 'In A Silent Way'/ 'Bitches Brew' period.
But when bassist Jaco Pastorius became a bandmember in 1976, Weather Report entered their most popular phase including the release of 'Black Market'.

''For all intents and purposes, this album is the black version of [The Beach Boys'] Smile-- at best, it will go down in the Smile/There's a Riot Goin' On/Miles Davis' On the Corner category.'' - Questlove
The prodigal son of the soul and funk canon, D'Angelo, is back! His ever-awaited third studio album, Black Messiah, is his first album since the critically acclaimed Voodoo, bringing to an end a 14-year hiatus. The album blends 70's jazz-funk and neo-soul.
Anyone who's been keeping up should be keen to the fact that the long-lusted over project was recorded in full analog, so the liner notes' PSA "For best results, listen at maximum volume" should be taken as a direct order for fervent D'lievers. And what better way to experience the gritty greatness of the release than a heavy-bodied vinyl pressing for the audio junkies?
The album features tracks co-penned by Kendra Foster (Parliament/Funkadelic) and Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest). It's also co-produced by Questlove (The Roots), bassist Pino Palladino (John Mayer Trio, The RH Factor), and drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers, Temptations, Beck, Jamie Lidell).

Black Radio, Volume 2On their 2012 breakout Black Radio, Robert Glasper Experiment laid out a new paradigm for creative music, reaching beyond entrenched genre boundaries to create a singular vision that drew from all reaches of contemporary black music and beyond. Black Radio drew unanimous praise from critics across the board and earned Glasper the highest chart positions of his career when the album debuted at #10 on Billboard's Top Current Albums chart, also claiming the #1 spot on both the Billboard Jazz chart and the iTunes R&B chart. The album kept earning accolades all the way to the 2013 GRAMMY Awards where Black Radio was awarded Best R&B Album.
In 2013, RGE ups the ante with the release of Black Radio 2 (Blue Note), another genre-defying effort that takes the Black Radio blueprint and builds to even greater heights. The core remains the Experiment, as astoundingly versatile a band as has ever existed, featuring Robert Glasper on keyboards, Derrick Hodge on bass, Mark Colenburg on drums, and Casey Benjamin on vocoder and saxophone. Providing the vocals throughout is another jaw-dropping roll call of vocalists including Common, Patrick Stump, Brandy, Jill Scott, Dwele, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Luke James, Emeli SandÉ, Lalah Hathaway, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
On Black Radio 2, the emphasis is on songwriting with 11 of the 12 tracks new originals, from the soaring lead track "I Stand Alone" featuring rapper Common and vocalist Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy through Jill Scott's sensual ode to connection "Calls" to the reinvention fantasy "Somebody Else" featuring BRIT Award winner Emeli SandÉ. The lone cover is the album closer, a spine-tingling version of Stevie Wonder's "Jesus Children of America" by vocalist Lalah Hathaway that also features a poignant spoken word tribute to the 20 young victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting by poet Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The album was produced by Glasper along with executive producers Nicole Hegeman and Eli Wolf.1. Baby Tonight (Black Radio Intro)

With his brother Branford (who doubles here on tenor and soprano) often closely emulating Wayne Shorter, and the rhythm section (pianist Kenny Kirkland, bassist Charnett Moffett, and drummer Jeff Watts) sounding a bit like the famous Herbie Hancock-Ron Carter-Tony Williams trio, Wynton is heard at the head of what was essentially an updated version of the mid- to late-'60s Miles Davis Quintet. The music is brilliantly played and displays what the "Young Lions" movement was really about: young musicians choosing to explore acoustic jazz and to extend the innovations of the pre-fusion modern mainstream style.

Black, Brown And Beige (Speakers Corner)Black, Brown, & Beige is Duke Ellington's musical representation of the African-American experience in the United States. It is arguably The Maestro's greatest work. The triumph of telling so important a story so well through music alone makes Duke Ellington's Black, Brown, & Beige a masterpiece. It also displays Duke's, and Jazz's, highest achievement in long form. Whether you perceive it as a three-movement symphony or accept Ellington's own personalized terminology »Tone Parallel«, Black, Brown, & Beige matches conceptually and in artistic content the musical continuity of Western Classical's greatest names in their lengthiest works.
The history of Black, Brown, & Beige is in its own right momentous. Ellington premiered the work at Carnegie Hall on January 23, 1943, at Duke's first performance on that illustrious stage. The Maestro has created the Come Sunday Suite. Duke Ellington basically reduced his three movement work to its first, Black, elevating that movement's spiritual theme, Come Sunday, making it the melody of the edited work. Truncating the symphony Black, Brown, & Beige into the song Come Sunday works because Duke Ellington has expanded Come Sunday through numerous theme and variations unknown to the original. The piece de resistance: a sacred text, by Duke himself, a text sung by the best known African-American religious singer in history, Mahalia Jackson. There is no doubt that it is the presence and performance of Mahalia Jackson which secures a home in the pantheon for this recasting of Black, Brown, & Beige, a work that already resided there.
And Duke Ellington pulled off this coup with one hand tied behind his back, or without the services of his right-hand man. Overlooked over the years since the album Black, Brown, & Beige was recorded in February 1958 is the absence of Johnny Hodges (Hodges did a gig with Strayhorn in Florida during this period), the Ellington band's premier soloist

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
