    The Black Sabbath Covers

When Jason Molina took on another artist's song, he willed his own universe into it, his own
personal and artistic mythology. Be it Conway Twitty or Townes Van Zandt, their blues were
infused with Molina's own entrancing blues. This pair of newly discovered, home-recorded
Black Sabbath covers is no different. Molina, a through-and-through fan of metal (seek out his
high school metal band the Spineriders' album if you haven't yet) peels back the sinister and
stoned elements of Sabbath, zeroing in on the loneliness and brooding.

    He takes "Solitude,"
from 1971's unfuckwithable Master of Reality - and one of Sabbath's more mystical, near-proggy
songs - and doubles down on the title. Molina extracts Ozzy Osbourne's gorgeously
cooed vocal performance and transforms it into a high and lonesome sound, a desert campfire
howler. And on his cover of "Snowblind, from 1972's Vol. 4, it becomes obvious what a guitar
hero Sabbath's Tony Iommi was for Molina. Molina seemed to pull from Iommi's odd, simple
fingerings and tunings throughout his catalogue: from his first album (known informally as "the
black album") to Magnolia Electric Co.'s Josephine. Molina's brief acoustic cover dials back the
bombast, but you can surely connect "Snowblind"'s chord progressions with Molina's own on
the black album and Axxess & Ace.

Recorded in the midwest in the late '90s, during Molina's
multi-season run of batting 1.000, these two intimate songs are a bittersweet artifact of one of
    the Rust Belt's titan songwriters.

Note: Do not attempt to play Side B of this 7" release. Side B is a gorgeous etching of a
black ram by artist Will Schaff. If you do attempt to play the etching on Side B it will sound
    absolutely awful.

    The Best Of Crow

Pure Rock N' Roll From The Midwest On 180 Gram Vinyl!

With a lowdown bass lick, uptown R&B horns and surging organ punctuating a catchy chorus, "Evil Woman (Don't Play Your Games With Me)" hit the Top 20 like a comet in 1969 and propelled Crow from Midwest club band into national touring act overnight. Thanks in part to covers by Black Sabbath and Ike and Tina Turner, it's one of the most recognizable hits of the era and, inexplicably, one of the few to not make the transition into the digital age. Until now.

Out of print for four decades, Crow's finest recordings are now available again on CD and 180-gram vinyl editions meticulously mastered from the original tapes. Long-suffering Crow fans can at last savor the best of the band's gritty run from 1969-1971, including not only "Evil Woman," but their other charting singles "Cottage Cheese," "Slow Down" and "(Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie on the) King of Rock & Roll" -- not to mention deep album cuts like "Keeps Me Running." Both formats also feature a previously unreleased demo cover of the Beatles' "When I Get Home," and the CD edition adds a previously unreleased long version of "Cottage Cheese." Each edition comes fully equipped with memorabilia, photos and detailed liners by Doug Sheppard of Ugly Things magazine.

    El Camino

Reviewing The Black Keys' 2010 Top Ten breakthrough album Brothers, Rolling Stone called the duo a two-man combo with a big-band mind. That description seems downright prophetic now. With the hard-rocking El Camino, The Black Keys' fourth Nonesuch release, guitarist-singer Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney conjure up an exhilarating, stadium-sized sound in collaboration with producer and friend Danger Mouse. El Camino boasts a no-nonsense brilliance: The pace is fast, the mood is upbeat, the choruses unfailingly addictive made for shouting along, preferably in a large, sweaty crowd.

A band already at the top of its game has gotten even better. And The Black Keys have done pretty damn well so far this year, with three 2011 Grammy awards for Brothers under their belt, an MTV Video Music Award for Tighten Up, more than 850,000 copies of Brothers sold in the U.S., and upwards of a million units worldwide, plus innumerable licensing placements in film, TV, and commercials. El Camino features one stand-out track after another, such as first single Lonely Boy, Gold on the Ceiling, and the surprising, acoustic-guitar-driven, tempo-shifting Little Black Submarines.

This record is more straight ahead rock and roll raw, driving, and back to basics, says Auerbach. As Carney has put it, The Black Keys respect the past while being in the present, and that formula has made them sound like nothing less than the future of rock and roll. While the largely self-produced Brothers, recorded at the famed Muscle Shoals Studio in Alabama, had a more soul and blues-oriented sound, El Camino often recalls the blitzkrieg-paced British-style rock of the 1960s and 70s, post-Beatles and pre-punk: artists like T-Rex, The Sweet, and Gary Glitter, along with the heavier swing of such bands as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.

The references are there, but the sound is very much contemporary and utterly their own, equally informed by The Black Keys' passion for hip hop and R&B and bolstered by the atmospheric production approach of Danger Mouse (a.k.a. Brian Burton), who was behind the boards for 2008's Attack & Release and collaborated with them on the funky Tighten Up for Brothers. As Auerbach notes, Brian understands all the different kinds of music we're into. He's got really great ideas about melody and song structure. For him it's all about the song. Also rejoining them is consistently innovative mixing engineer Tchad Blake, who Auerbach calls a genius with audio, a complete wizard.

El Camino arrives just in time to serve as the ideal holiday gift for The Black Keys' rapidly growing fan base. It came together quickly in an unfettered burst of creativity by the hard-charging pair. They recorded these 11 tracks between tour dates for Brothers at Auerbach's new Easy Eye Studio in Nashville, where he and Carney have now relocated after years of working in their native Akron, Ohio. The duo plans to embark on a six week European Tour at the start of the New Year, with U.S. dates to follow shortly thereafter-including several arenas.

In a time of global austerity, The Black Keys work simply and efficiently, with a minimum of tools and a wealth of ideas, to produce the richest, fattest, coolest music around. Upon the release of Brothers last year, Britain's Uncut magazine called them one of the best rock'n'roll bands on the planet, and El Camino, confirms that.

    A Fire In The Sky

3xLP Set Featuring 27 Songs Selected From Deep Purple's 19 Studio Albums Recorded Between 1968 And 2013

Deep Purple stands alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as part of the Holy Trinity of British hard rock. The list of the band's classic songs is legion, and the influence it's had on successive generations of musicians is both enduring and remarkable. Rhino will celebrate Deep Purple's history with three definitive collections.

A FIRE IN THE SKY will be available as a three-LP set that includes a selection of 27 songs chosen from the 19 studio albums that Deep Purple recorded between 1968 and 2013. Among the highlights are the single edit version of Woman From Tokyo, the U.S. single edit for Burn, and the radio edit of Bad Attitude.

In 2016, past and present members of Purple (being Blackmore, Coverdale, Evans, Gillan, Glover, Hughes, Lord and Paice) were finally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame; it was long-overdue recognition of all they'd achieved in a near half-century career. But in truth, this was merely affirmation for what millions already knew. Deep Purple have sold over 100 million records, were once acknowledged by the Guinness Book Of Records as the loudest band on the planet (for a show at the Rainbow in London during 1972).

    Beulah

Beulah. It's a small, complicated word with a tangle of meanings.

It's the title of John Paul White's new album, his first in nearly a decade, a remarkably and assuredly diverse collection spanning plaintive folk balladry, swampy southern rock, lonesome campfire songs, and dark acoustic pop. Gothic and ambitious, with a rustic, lived-in sound, it's a meditation on love curdling into its opposite, on recrimination defining relationships, on hope finally filtering through doubt.

Beulah is also a White family nickname. "It's a term of endearment around our house," White explains, "like you would call someone 'Honey.' My dad used to call my little sister Beulah, and I call my daughter Beulah. It's something I've always been around."

Beulah is also something much loftier. For the poet and painter William Blake, Beulah was a place deep in the collective spiritual unconscious. "I won't pretend to be the smartest guy in the world," says White, "but I dig a lot of what he's written. Beulah was a place you could go in your dreams. You could go there in meditation, to relax and heal and center B photo credit: Allister Ann 119 west 57th street, penthouse north, new york, ny 10019 t 212.741.1000 www.sacksco.com SACKS A CO. N D yourself. It wasn't a place you could stay, but you came back to the world in a better state."

And perhaps the music on this album originated in that "pleasant lovely Shadow where no dispute can come." According to White, the songs came to him unbidden-and not entirely welcome. "When these songs started popping into my head, I had been home for a while and I was perfectly happy. I wasn't looking for songs. I didn't know whether any would pop back in my head again, and I was honestly okay with that. I'm a very happy father and husband, and I love where I live. I love working with artists for a label that I think is doing good work."

Far from the grind and glamour of Nashville-where he worked for years as a working songwriter before stepping into the spotlight himself-White settled in his hometown of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, a wellspring of gritty Southern rock and soul since the 1960s. Together with Alabama Shakes keyboard player Ben Tanner and Shoals native Will Trapp, he founded and runs Single Lock Records, a local indie label that has released records by some of the Yellowhammer State's finest, including Dylan LeBlanc, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, and legendary songwriter and keyboard player Donnie Fritts. The label is based in a small ranch house a stone's throw from White's own home, which would come in handy when those songs started invading his head.

"Honestly, I tried to avoid them, but then I realized the only way I was going to get rid of them was if I wrote them down. I got my phone out and I'd sing these little bits of melody, then put it away and move on. But eventually I got to a place where it was a roar in my head, and that pissed me off." Due to his experiences as a gun-for-hire in Nashville, White was reluctant to romanticize the creative process, to turn it into a spiritual pursuit. "Then one day I told my wife I think I'm going to go write a song. She was as surprised as I was. I went and wrote probably eight songs in three days. It was like turning on a faucet."

Most artists would kill for such a downpour, but White was wary of the consequences. He knew that writing songs would lead to recording them, which would result in releasing them, and that means touring and leaving home for weeks at a time. "As soon as I write a song, I start thinking what other people might think of it. I've talked to friends about this: What is it about us that makes us do that? Why can't I just sit on my back porch and sing these songs out into the ether? I don't have an answer for it yet, but I think it's just part of who I am. I need that reaction. I need to feel like I'm moving someone in a good way or in a bad way. I need to feel like there's a connection."

White threw himself into the project, no longer the reluctant songwriter but a craftsman determined to make the best album possible-to do these songs justice. He cut several songs at the renowned FAME Studios in his hometown, where Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, the Allmans, the Osmonds, Bobbie Gentry, Arthur Conley, and Clarence Carter recorded some of their most popular hits.

One product of those sessions is "What's So," which introduces itself by way of a fire-andbrimstone riff, as heavy as a guilty conscience-the kind of riff you wouldn't be surprised to hear on a Sabbath album. But White's vocals are gritty and soulful, a product of the Shoals, almost preacherly as he sings about earthly and eternal damnation: "Sell your damn soul or get 119 west 57th street, penthouse north, new york, ny 10019 t 212.741.1000 www.sacksco.com SACKS A CO. N D right with the man, keep treading water as long as you can," he exhorts the listener. "But before you do, you must understand that you don't get above your raisin'." It's the heaviest moment on the record, perhaps the darkest in White's career.

At the other end of the spectrum is "The Martyr," one of the catchiest tunes White has ever penned. The spryness of the melody imagines Elliott Smith wandering the banks of the Tennessee River, yet the song is shot through with a pervasive melancholy as White wrestles with his own demons. "Keep falling on your sword, sink down a little more," he sings over a dexterous acoustic guitar theme. This is not, however, a song about some unnamed person, but rather a pained self-diagnosis: "These are the wounds that I will not let heal, the ones that I deserve and seem so real." White knows he's playing the martyr, but he leaves the song hauntingly open-ended, as though he isn't sure what to do with this epiphany beyond putting it in a song.

The rest of Beulah was recorded in the Single Lock offices/studio near White's home. "I can be more relaxed about the process. We can all just sit there and talk about records or baseball without feeling like someone's standing over our shoulders. That's a big deal to me, not to feel pressured. And I'm only about twenty yards away from home, so I can walk over and throw a baseball with my kids or make dinner with my wife."

Some of the quieter-but no less intense-songs on Beulah were created in that environment, including the ominously erotic opener "Black Leaf" and the Southern gothic love song "Make You Cry." As he worked, a distinctive and intriguing aesthetic began to grow clearer and clearer, one based in austere arrangements and plaintive moods. These are songs with empty spaces in them, dark corners that could hold ghosts or worse. "There were certain moments when Ben and I would finish up a song, listen back to it, and think how in the world did we get here. But that's just what the songs ask for. These are the sounds in my head. This is the sound of me thinking and living and breathing and doing."

Once White had everything assembled and sequenced, it was time to give the album a title, to wrap everything up for the listener. Beulah stuck-not only because of family history or Blake, but because White realized that making music was his own trip to Beulah. "If you had to sum up what music is for most people in this world, it's that. It's that escape. It's that refuge. You go there and you come back and you use that to help you with your life. You always have that as a place to go."

    Land

Novella's formation was the result of an instant spark-guitarist Hollie Warren,
guitarist Sophy Hollington, and bassist Suki Sou met through mutual friends in
Brighton in 2010, where they quickly realized that they shared a common
love for '60s counterculture and bands like Black Sabbath, the Brian Jonestown
Massacre, and Pale Saints. The addition of drummer Iain Laws in 2011
and keyboardist Isabel Spurgeon in 2014 solidified the group into a propulsive
engine, capable of welding woozy, cosmic psychedelia to sustained
squalls of flanged-out, far-out dream pop. Novella's debut album, Land, is a
controlled blast of mainlined electricity, a tempest of relentless groove and
crystalline vocals that is at once the vicious edge and the calm eye of the
    storm.

Recorded during one ice-cold week in January of 2014 by Jonas Verijnen
(Moon Duo, Ballet School) and Joshua Third (The Horrors) in an abandoned
clothing factory-turned-studio in Dalston, East London, Land perfectly absorbs
the band's vast array of influences and transforms them into songs
that Fact Magazine described as "equal parts effete jangle and ferocious
riffage." Combining London gloom and cosmic escapism, Sou and Laws
channel Can and the 13th Floor Elevators on the krautrock-inspired jams like
"Follow" and "Something Must Change," while Warren and Hollington stomp
their homemade flanger and phaser pedals to create dueling arcs of electric
guitars. As the band churns and riffs, the girls' voices soar brilliantly, their
glassy clarity recalling the Lynchian shoegaze of Lush or Stereolab. During
quieter, more reflective songs like "Sentences" and "Younger Than Yesterday,"
there are echoes of eerie psychedelia like Broadcast, evident in the myriad
of flutes, synths, and Fender Electric XII guitars.

On Land, Novella captures the wild spirit of creating something new from
pieces of the past. They ward off the overcast London melancholy with
evocative tales of weightless meandering, of drifting over the pavement of
familiar streets while dreaming about exploring fantastical alien landscapes.
These are the yarns of twenty-somethings in limbo, a collection of late night
tales that more often end in avoided glances than locked eyes

Founded By Front Man Ronnie James Dio

Elf was an American rock band founded by singer and bassist Ronnie James Dio, keyboardist Doug Thaler, drummer Gary Driscoll, and guitarists Nick Pantas and David Feinstein (Dio's cousin). The band was originally called The Electric Elves, but was shortened to The Elves and finally Elf in 1972. Elf disbanded in 1975 after recording three albums and after most of the lineup had been absorbed into Ritchie Blackmore's new group, Rainbow.

Ronnie James Dio went on to a successful career in heavy metal, fronting Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, and his own band, Dio. David Feinstein also found a career in metal, leading the band The Rods for a number of years. Original keyboardist Doug Thaler went on to a career in music management.

Recorded while the band was evolving slowly into the Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Trying to Burn the Sun is the third and final release from Elf, the band that finally earned Ronnie James Dio the attention he had been seeking since the late 50s. After writing and recording a few singles for Blackmore, Dio and Elf were solidly moving in a heavier musical direction.

Trying to Burn the Sun is a great listen for all fans of 70s rock, not only Dio and Rainbow fans.

    Hollow Bones

Hollow Bones, the most anticipated blues rock album of the year from Long Beach, California's Rival Sons will finally be upon us! Having supported some of the biggest and best names in rock history, including being hand-picked to support Black Sabbath on their final world tour, following sold out tour after sold out tour, and just recently being added to the main stages at Europe's premier festivals such as Download, Hellfest and Rock Am Ring, the Rival Sons hype train continues to gain momentum, and Hollow Bones will surely propel them to their rightful place at the pinnacle of today's rock scene!

Arguably the most soulful voice in rock music today, Jay Buchanan's vocal performance on the album is as fiery and passionate as ever. Infused perfectly with Scott Holiday's fuzzy guitars, a powerful bassline courtesy of Dave Beste, and held together by the precise drumming of Mike Miley, and the two-times Grammy award winning talent of producer Dave Cobb, the lead single, Hollow Bones, Pt. 1 and the electrifying anthem Pretty Face encapsulate the harmonious blend that we've all come to know and love, now further refined and perfected to create a unique, timeless sound that sets the band apart.

Of course, no Rival Sons album would be complete without a heartfelt tune or two, provided here by the raw, dark Fade Out, which showcases the band's immense songwriting capabilities with haunting melodies and a touch of wistful melancholy. The final track, All That I Want, is an incredibly tender, touching finale, with the guitars this time taking a backseat allowing Jay Buchanan to deliver a breathtaking performance that'll tug at your heartstrings in a way that only he can. The man himself offers his own views on their latest work:

Each record we've made has been part of a distillation toward revealing the band's essence. This record, finally is the release of the unapologetic, wild beast that has long lived within the ribs of Rival Sons howling to be freed.

In keeping with a theme the band have touched upon several times, the stunning album artwork comes courtesy of renowned Brooklyn-based artist Martin Wittfooth, who's exhibited extensively in galleries and museums throughout North America and Europe. This particular piece, entitled Rainsong, is an oil-based painting featured in his latest solo exhibition, Offering, which was displayed at the famous Jonathan LeVine Gallery, New York in late 2015.

Through his work, Martin Wittfooth has presented a dystopian world, devoid of human life and filled with strong symbolic implications that the root cause is our own disrespect for the natural world. In contrast to some of his earlier work, which have often featured creatures removed from their own natural environments and instead surrounded by trash and decay, Offering explores the ancient art of shamanism, demonstrating a more optimistic view that perhaps its current revitalisation can peel away the materialistic obsessions through which we are collectively destroying our planet. In Martin Wittfooth's own words, the reemergence of shamanism appears to be having a great impact on consciousness around the globe by severing individual attachments to the ego-driven, ideology-based monotheistic modality that has shaped so much of the human enterprise over the past millennia.

    Savages (Discontinued)

Max Cavalera is the walking embodiment of creative energy, of all of the diverse layers of urgency that are possible from that select few whose artistic output defines genres. Mystic shaman, protest singer, revolutionary hero, everyday metalhead, furious consumer of heavy music of all shades, husband, father, leader, songwriter Cavalera reigns as the adoptive tribal chief of a generation of fans, stretching from the roughest slums of South America to the coldest confines of Russia. Anywhere that people are disenfranchised, the songs of SOULFLY serve as their anthems.

Armed with Cavalera's four-stringed guitars, unmistakable growl and instantly recognizable riffage, the muddy tones and constant rhythmic bounce of SOULFLY has retained its gritty edge while pushing the boundaries of what's possible in metal. »Savages« represents a career-defining moment, solidifying the lineup with longtime lead guitarist Marc Rizzo (who has been in SOULFLY almost as long as Max was in SEPULTURA), bassist Tony Campos (Static X, Ministry, Prong) and Max's 21 year-old Zyon, who splits his time between drumming in LODY KONG and now SOULFLY.

"All of the things that make SOULFLY killer are combined in Savages," Max declares.

»Savages« melds the most brutal, the heaviest and overall the most vibrant components that made up each record in SOULFLY's diverse catalog. By Max's own account, »Savages« is possessed of the tribal groove of the first two SOULFLY albums, particularly in songs like 'Bloodshed', 'Ayatollah of Rock 'N' Rolla' and 'Master of Savagery'. But there's also the thrash metal that was found on DARK AGES and OMEN; whereas the CAVALERA CONSPIRACY records contain short, punky bursts, the new SOULFLY record gets into the epic length territory of early METALLICA. The death metal vibe of SOULFLY's »Enslaved« emerges in songs like 'Fallen' and 'Cannibal Holocaust'.

"I really like the name »Savages«. I like single words that sound powerful, like 'Primitive', 'Roots', 'Arise'," Max explains. "It's about the human condition right now. We have the Internet and we're working on missions to Mars, but we are still decapitating each other and blowing up marathons. We're still savages. Even with technology and how far we've come in the world, our spirit is still that of a savage."

A trailblazing pioneer and musician with millions of albums sold who nevertheless retains boundless street cred due to his grimy, raw and undeniable authenticity; Max Cavalera is one of the most prolific artists the realm of heavy music has ever known. There's CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, which reunited Max with his brother and former bandmate, Igor Cavalera. There was the brutal attack of NAILBOMB, Max's collaboration with Alex Newport from FUDGE TUNNEL, which included members of DEAD KENNEDYS, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, BIOHAZARD and NEUROSIS on-stage. There's his forthcoming band with members of THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, MASTODON and THE MARS VOLTA. Of course, there's Max's unassailable work as SEPULTURA's founder, leading the Brazilian band from their badass lo-fi beginnings, through their era of sophisticated thrash classics, up through the cultural landmark that is 'Roots'.

SOULFLY began almost instantaneously after his departure from the band he founded. The eponymously titled debut »Soulfly« sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone, further expanding upon the tribal foundation of 'Roots' with percussive instrumentation, forays into esoteric sounds and multiple guest performers. Across the seven albums and never-ending tours that followed, Max worked with a who's-who of the heavy music scene as band mates, guest musicians and touring members, including guys from SLIPKNOT, SLAYER, MEGADETH, DEFTONES, RADIOHEAD, STONE SOUR, CYPRESS HILL, MACHINE HEAD, DEVILDRIVER, FEAR FACTORY, MORBID ANGEL, THROWDOWN, S.O.D., SKINDRED, BORKNAGAR, WILL HAVEN and CATTLE DECAPITATION, among others.

In addition to Max's own self-production, a number of important producers have lent their skills to SOULFLY, including »Roots« producer Ross Robinson (KORN, AT THE DRIVE-IN), Toby Wright (Ozzy Osbourne, SLAYER), Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), ex-SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader (FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, GORJIA) and Zeuss (HATEBREED, SUICIDE SILENCE) and Terry Date (PANTERA, DEFTONES).

Cavalera asked Date, who had mixed for SOULFLY in the past, to produce the new album. Once studio time with the legendary producer was on the calendar, Max kicked into high gear with the material. Max and Zyon worked on the songs that would comprise »Savages« at home. "Zyon came up to me and said, 'Give me a shot. I'll play on the record for you. I won't let you down," explains the elder Cavalera. "I went into a room with him to jam and it felt great. So I said, 'Fuck yeah, let's do it!"

Generally on a SOULFLY album, the drummers would learn the songs in the studio, based on demo recordings from Max. This time, Max had the luxury of working out the songs at home with Zyon. "We jammed every single day for a month. He knew 90% of the material already when we got into the studio. It reminded me of recording the old Sepultura stuff, like Arise and Chaos A.D., Igor knew exactly what he was going to do before we went into the studio. This was very similar."

Cavalera says he must've written at least 1,000 riffs specifically for »Savages«. "The killer riff is what hooks the whole song together," he says. "For me the writing process is about finding the most killer riffs possible. It's a battle; sometimes I struggle with the guitar for hours. You have to throw it down on the floor and take a break. Come back a few hours later. 'Let's try this again, motherfucker!' Grab it again and go to battle, go to war with the guitar until you get the right riffs."

Max points to BLACK SABBATH's 'Symptom of the Universe' as one of the penultimate riffs of all time, citing SABBATH's Tony Iommi and METALLICA frontman James Hetfield as among the riff-masters he most admires. "I think of riff making as an art-form. I take it really seriously. I think it deserves more attention. It has such value."

Speaking of riffs, Rizzo came into the band a decade ago and his love of thrash metal, death metal and collaborative spirit has energized Max ever since. "When Marc entered Soulfly, it was a drastic change. He's the guitar player I've been looking for my whole life. Andreas [Kisser] and I really clicked when we worked together. I never had that again after that. We had other guys that were cool, but it was never 100% there. When Marc came in, I found it! We've developed a great bond since." Rizzo particularly shines on the opening track on Savages, 'Bloodshed.' "There's stuff all over the song - clean guitars, feedback - he just makes the song better."

Campos has a lengthy resume in the world of metal and Max says they bonded over their shared Latino heritage, among other things. "I had this idea about this guy Vargas, a Venezuelan cannibal, they call him 'El Comegente.' He's the Hannibal Lecter of the Andes. We both read about it. Tony sings some of it in Spanish and I sing in Portuguese. He's a great bass player too, fucking amazing. Killer bass tones, distortion, all balls-out metal. He keeps this shit real heavy, great tone. It's great recording with guys who know what they're doing. I don't have to ask if they know."

Max acknowledges the inherent risk in putting a 21 year-old behind the kit for such an important record, but it was a risk he absolutely wanted to take. "To have my son drumming on the album, that's killer. I like risks. I like to start shit up and see what happens. Even if I fail, at least I knew I tried. Rather than knowing I didn't try at all. To me, that's the bigger failure. It took a little bit of courage to put my son on it. I came to the studio and told Terry there was a young drummer who doesn't play to a click. Terry knew what to do and Zyon did great. The drums sound amazing."

Like all things Max Cavalera, does SOULFLY's »Savages is a family affair. Not only does it mark Zyon's recorded debut with the band, but one of Max's other kids throws down some vocals in the opening track, 'Bloodshed'. "My son Igor has a killer punk rock voice that reminds me of the old CORROSION OF CONFORMITY days," Max says. "The chorus has this old punk style riff, almost like a MISFITS type riff. His voice is killer."

Like every SOULFLY album, »Savages« contains an impressive guest list comprised of veterans and up-and-comers. CLUTCH's Neil Fallon turns up on 'Ayatollah of Rock 'N' Rolla', the title of which was inspired by Mel Gibson's classic Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior movie. Jamie Hanks from I DECLARE WAR brought his high and low deathcore vocals to 'Fallen', a death metal oriented song Max says is in the vein of CANNIBAL CORPSE.

Mitch Harris from NAPALM DEATH contributed vocals to 'K.C.S.' Harris has been around the Cavaleras long enough that there are videos of him changing Zyon's diapers when SOULFLY's new drummer was just one month old. "Mitch came to the studio just to hang out during a day off from tour," Max explains. "I'm like, 'You ready to sing some shit on this record?' I put him on the spot. He's like, 'Right now?' I said, 'Fuck yeah, let's do it!' There was one point where we were recording together where he did a scream and I saw his eyeball popping out of his face like a cartoon. I was like, 'Dude that was the most metal thing I've seen in a long time.'"

Even as Max continues to consume new music from band like NINE INCH NAILS, MAN MUST DIE, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED and I DECLARE WAR, even as he revisits seminal material from METALLICA, SLAYER, C.O.C. and the like, and indulges his penchant for world music, and gets his hands in his other projects and collaborations, it all adds up to a singular, distinct, straightforward and riff-heavy machine known as SOULFLY.

    The Church Within

    Features Two Bonus Tracks

Includes Added Photos and Original Album Art With Lyrics

Includes a New Note From Wino Himself

Biker metal, doom metal, stoner metal whatever metal subgenre you
want to fit him into, Scott "Wino" Weinrich has been at the forefront of it
for over thirty years. The unmistakable rasp of his lead vocals and thick, fuzzy Gibson
guitar tone have spearheaded bands ranging from Saint Vitus to Spirit Caravan to Probot,
but for many his crowning achievement (and most accessible one) was The Church
Within, the last album he made with his first band, The Obsessed, for Columbia in 1994.

His lone major label release, The Church Within features the dark vision and crushing,
slow-motion riffs beloved by fans of Black Sabbath, but the driving intensity and atonal guitar solos recall
Motörhead and Black Flag, respectively; in short, this album transcends genre classifications even as it defines
them. Now, for the first time, this lost classic of '90s metal is being reissued by Real Gone Music on double
180-gram gatefold vinyl with two bonus tracks (the single "Mental Kingdom" and the unreleased track "Melancholy
Grey"), added photos, the original album art with lyrics and a new note from Wino himself. Everyone from Henry
Rollins to Dave Grohl to Ian MacKaye has sung Wino's praises time to join the chorus.

Echo Of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across The Path (Awaiting Repress)

    6LP Picture Disc Box Set

Grammy-winning, multi-platinum selling and legendary rock band Soundgarden, have announced the vinyl release of their highly acclaimed rarities collection, Echo Of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across The Path. Hard on the heels of the 20th anniversary deluxe re-release of their chart-topping, five-times-platinum 1994 album, Superunknown early last year, the new vinyl package, first released as a 3-CD collection and as a 14-track single CD last November, will feature the three album thematic collection on six LPs with three separate jackets, each sporting its own unique art and housed in a slipcase wrapped in foil paper designed by Josh Graham.

The collection was curated and hand-selected by guitarist Kim Thayil. Echo Of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across The Path is the first time an official Soundgarden release has included more than 26 years of rarities that have appeared as B-sides, album bonus tracks, EPs, soundtracks, compilations and live recordings, a must for any fan of the band.

LP 1 & 2, dubbed "ORIGINALS," is filled with Soundgarden-written songs, mainly B-sides along with some soundtrack and compilation selections in addition to two unreleased songs on vinyl which go back as far as "Sub Pop Rock City," originally included as part of the 1988 compilation, Sub Pop 200. The two unreleased tracks on this disc are "Kristi," a 1996 outtake from the Down on the Upside sessions which is reportedly drummer Matt Cameron's favorite Soundgarden song, and "Storm," a brand-new track recorded in early 2014.

LP 3 & 4, "COVERS," offers a stellar showcase of songs from bands who Soundgarden love and admire, from classic rockers The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix and Sly and the Family Stone to punk pioneers The Stooges, the Ramones, Fear and DEVO. Showing their sense of humor, Soundgarden also cover songs by Spinal Tap and Cheech & Chong. The two unreleased tracks include the Beatles' "Everybody's Got Something to Hide " and the Sly Stone track "Thank You ", both of which were originally recorded for a BBC Radio 1 John Peel session in 1989.

LP 5 & 6, "ODDITIES," offers a wide-ranging combination of instrumentals, remixes and demos. The unreleased tracks on vinyl include "Twin Tower," penned by Matt Cameron, which was originally recorded at Seattle's London Bridge studio in December 1988 during the sessions for Louder Than Love. "Night Surf" is an instrumental performed by bassist Ben Shepherd which the band used to open their 1994 tour in conjunction with an introductory film which screened before they took the stage. Steve Fisk's new remix of "The Telephantasm (Resurrection Remix)," a song originally released for 2011 Record Store Day, has also never been available on vinyl before.

    The Garden Of Unearthly Delights

Mighty Doom icons CATHEDRAL from Coventry, England for sure are one of the most unique and unpredictable acts around. These legendary merchants of slow-motion sound could care less about redundant genre restrictions and have so far incorporated everything from Doom, Psych, Folk up to Funk in their works. With their eighth album The Garden Of Unearthly Delights CATHEDRAL have achieved much more than simply living up to that reputation - the guys created timeless songs that couldn`t be farther away from standardisation, stagnation and convention.

Produced by Warren Ryker (DOWN, CROWBAR), The Garden Of Unearthly Delights is probably the most varied effort of the band so far. While a song like 'North Berwick Witch Trials' will bring back memories of such immortal riffs`n`groove as in 'Hopkins' or 'Ride', 'Tree Of Life And Death' simply tears everything to pieces with its ultra-heavy guitar sound and fierce vocals courtesy of Lee Dorrian.

The centerpiece of it all certainly is the 27-minute-long mammoth epos 'The Garden' that almost bursts with such a wealth of ideas and changes in atmosphere that other bands probably couldn`t come up with on a whole album. Using every stylistic device from female vocals up to violins and embedding it all in that typical CATHEDRAL brand of Doom, The Garden Of Unearthly Delights is a treat for every fan of the band, old and new alike.

Starting with quite sinister and ultra-slow songs on the 1990 EP In Memorium and the full-length album Forest Of Equilibrium, CATHEDRAL quickly gained cult status. The 1992 follow-up EP Soul Sacrifice brought changes soundwise and saw the band mixing traditional Doom with 70s - Hardrock and showed a first glimpse of the trademarks CATHEDRAL still represent nowadays.

After having previously toured with MORBID ANGEL and SAINT VITUS, the band embarked on the legendary Gods Of Grind - Tour with ENTOMBED, CARCASS and CONFESSOR. „The Ethereal Mirror" featured alltime faves like 'Ride' and 'Midnight Mountain' and suddenly gave CATHEDRAL the reputation as „the next big thing in Metal".

Struggling with this label, the band started to experiment on the EP Statik Majik and probably tried out every single instrument they could lay their hands on to churn out a 20-minute-track like 'Voyage Of The Homeless Sapien'. After touring with BLACK SABBATH, the guys went on to record the landmark „The Carnival Bizarre" in 1996 that brought us immortal tunes such as 'Hopkins (The Witchfinder General)' and 'Utopian Blaster' - the latter featuring Tony Iommi on guitar. Supernatural Birth Machine was released in 1996 after touring in South America, Europe and Japan amongst others. The catchy songwriting on that album echoed on Caravan Beyond Redemption in 1998, but with a heavier twist to it. The next serious change in style occurred on the gloomy and sludgy Endtyme that went almost completely without sound experiments and concentrated on ultra-grim riffing. 2002`s The VIIth Coming combined catchiness with heaviness to form a well-balanced mixture between old and new CATHEDRAL.

Now that the English fourpiece has returned with The Garden Of Unearthly Delights it`s time to follow them for new adventures in sound

Restless creative spirits never sleep and class is eternal. Thus, the timely and welcome return of Johanna Sadonis is only to be expected. Despite the sudden and distinctly premature disintegration of her previous band The Oath in 2014, Johanna's passion for making music that touches the darkest recesses of the soul has blazed on. The result is Lucifer - a new manifestation of the Berlin-based singer and songwriter's extraordinary and potent musical vision.

Although still firmly rooted in the fertile soil first cultivated by Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Blue Oyster Cult, Lucifer exist in a proudly liberated and limitless sonic realm, where the heaviest blues rock is a mere starting point for the band's skyward creative trajectory. Lucifer's instinctive take on the very soul of early heavy metal is the electrified essence of rock'n'roll at its nascent purest. This is Magic Rock - heavy, heartfelt and holistic.

Eschewing the now well-worn clichÉs of the occult rock explosion in favour of a truthful and tempestuous re-imagining of classic 70s proto-metal and turbocharged blues, the two songs on this band's debut seven-inch single crackle and fizz with nascent energy and the compelling conviction of music made for all the right reasons. Boasting a sound that revels in exquisite analogue warmth without ever retreating into some nostalgic ghetto, both 'Anubis' and 'Morning Star' came to life at Candy Bomber studios in Berlin, under the supervision of aural wizard Ingo Krauss, a one-time apprentice of legendary Krautrock producer Connie Plank. With the finest and most unique collection of old school analogue equipment, from tape machines to vintage amps, Candy Bomber provided Lucifer with everything they needed to realize their potent vision.

Lucifer represents the culmination of a spontaneous and intuitive creative mind-meld, wherein their leader's kaleidoscopic focus collides with the heavy soul abandon of earthbound but astrally-inspired musicians at the top of their game. With songs crafted by Johanna and Cathedral legend Gaz Jennings - the first Lucifer release is a mesmerizing glimpse into the sumptuous depths that await us further down the evolutionary trail.

After the release of their debut seven-inch via Rise Above Records in February, Lucifer releases their debut full length, Lucifer I. While Johanna states that this first release does give some indication of the musical direction that this band will pursue, there is a strong sense that these songs are merely a prologue to the much deeper and more substantial body of work to come. Meanwhile, the band intend to hit the road to spread the news of Magic Rock to as many willing sinners as possible. With a solid line-up, a renewed sense of collective purpose and the invigorating effects of creative adrenalin propelling them forward, Lucifer is a glowing advertisement for fresh starts, clarity of vision and the rejuvenative powers of heavy music. Lucifer lives!

The Real Thing (Deluxe) (Out Of Stock)

180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl With Gatefold Sleeves

Features A 2nd LP With A Selection Of Rarities

As Faith No More prepares to unleash its first new album in nearly 20 years, Rhino Records celebrates the back-to-back classic albums that helped establish the band's vital and visceral musical legacy with Deluxe Editions of THE REAL THING and ANGEL DUST.

Each album will be offered as a double LP, 180gm heavyweight black vinyl format of each album, featuring the original album and a selection of the rarities related to each. The release date of the vinyl formats is planned for August.

Like all bands who transcended their time to become cornerstones of an era, Faith No More sounded like nobody else. The group's commercial breakthrough came in 1989 with the release of THE REAL THING. It was the band's third album, but the first to feature the line-up of Mike Bordin (drums), Roddy Bottum (keyboards), Bill Gould (bass), Jim Martin (guitars), and Mike Patton (vocals).

The album was incredibly diverse, yet every song was linked by the band's own developing style. It peaked at #11 on the charts and was certified platinum, spawning the singles, "From Out Of Nowhere" and "Falling To Pieces," as well as "Epic," which was ubiquitous on radio and MTV.

The bonus disc puts a different spin on many of the album tracks with remixed versions of "Epic" and "Falling To Pieces," as well as live performances of "Surprise You're Dead," "Underwater Love" and the Black Sabbath classic "War Pigs." The bonus disc also includes the b-sides "Cowboy Song" and "The Grade."
