    Rio

    2009 Remastered Version

Duran Duran's artistic progression from their self-titled debut to the following year's Rio was the greatest aesthetic leap of their career. The group moved from catchy but somewhat rudimentary New Romantic synth-funk to elegantly arranged, sophisticated pop-rock, concentrating more on song structure than dance beats. For their efforts, they were rewarded with superstar status, due chiefly to Hungry Like the Wolf, a lascivious tune that injects a welcome dose of rock & roll guitar. The most impressive tracks on Rio, though, are the more contemplative, balladic offerings, like Lonely in Your Nightmare, Save a Prayer, and especially The Chauffer, with its stream-of-consciousness lyrics and unconventional structure. If you could only own one Duran Duran album, it should be Rio!

    El Rio

It's been one helluva ride to get here, from Nashville to El Paso and back again, but Frankie Ballard's new Warner Bros. Records/Warner Music Nashville album El Rio is finally being released. With growing anticipation, Ballard is especially excited to hear fans' reactions to some of the new music that no one has heard.

Ballard has been playing new songs like "It All Started with a Beer" and "Cigarette" from his third LP live, but not every song has made it into the set. "Good as Gold," co-written by Mando Saenz and Justin Bogart, is a track he's especially proud of that fans haven't had a chance to listen to yet.

"'Good as Gold' is the heart of this record," Ballard said. "Everybody asks, 'What's your favorite song?' I can't pick my favorite, but doggone it 'Good as Gold' is really close to the top. The spirit of this song, the courage in this song is what made me fall in love with it the first time I ever heard it. It's about telling a girl everything you need to tell her all in one moment and not holding anything back. The courage in that inspired me and I hope it inspires other people. It's one of the songs that I'm most excited to see what people think of it, on social media or at shows, or wherever I can talk to people about this album. I'm dying to get feedback. So go listen to the song if you haven't and tell me what you think."

Love and lust play a huge role in El Rio, alternating between tender tracks like "Good as Gold" and "It All Started with a Beer" to more experiential songs like "Cigarette" and "LA Woman," another new song Ballard is excited to unveil.

"This is one that I love to play for people because it's a rockin' song," Ballard said. "Every woman I think has a little bit of an LA side and I think every man has a side of him that wants an LA woman."

    Afternoon In Rio

This is the newest project, born in Rio De Janeiro. Ersahin has already presented the Brazilian version of his Nublu Jazz Festival, and this disc probably reflects the urban electronica advances of São Paulo in equal measure. There are supremely individual vocals from Nina Becker, Thalma de Freitas, China and Junio Barreto. Also involved are Kenny Wollesen and Alberto Continentino on the rhythm sections, and the massively influential (and innovative) producer/instrumentalist Kassin and guitarists Catatau and Muzak. As if this wasn't sufficiently impressive, there are the rappers Rodrigo and Lourdes de Luz from Mamelo Soundsystem. Acidic guitars contrast with dreamy vocals and tumbling drums. This is an organic funk with resonant basslines, harmonised saxophone and skittering drums. It's a swirling brew of vocals, vibes and stinging guitar parts. The sound of an experimenting Brazil that remains in touch with its pop, rock, bossa and samba roots.

    Blame Confusion

Montreal band Solids went to school with bands from the 90s, like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and Superchunk. Formed by Xavier Germain-Poitras (guitar) and Louis Guillemette (drums), the duo has understood that melody never shines as much as when it is forced to fight its way through many layers of distortion and feedback effects. A first EP released in 2010, Generic Dogs, already united fans of chaotic choruses under the banner of their intense rock. A 7 (Fog Friends b / w Blown Out) and a split 7 created with Toronto band Animal Faces have confirmed Solid's reputation: a rare duo able to reconcile punks, rockers and metalheads. Blame Confusion, recorded by Adrian Popovich at Mountain City Studio (We Are Wolves, Sam Roberts, The Dears, etc.), is the band's first full-length album.

Studio Rio Presents: The Brazil Connection

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Studio Rio Presents: The Brazil Connection, an innovative new collection of 12 beloved vocal recordings re-experienced through new samba and bossa nova arrangements created by iconic Brazilian musicians and The Berman Brothers.

Embracing the All In One Rhythm™ Theme of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Studio Rio Presents: The Brazil Connection blends 12 iconic performances--from Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday, Sly & The Family Stone, The Isley Brothers, Mel TormÉ, Nina Simone, Johnny Nash, Dave Brubeck with Carmen McRae, Andy Williams and Sarah Vaughan--with new, samba and bossa nova arrangements and production inspired by the spirit of Brazilian music.

Working on Studio Rio Presents: The Brazil Connection project, the Berman Brothers sought out the original multi-track masters and utilized an all-new, state-of-the-art separation technology from Science of Sounds to extract exquisitely pristine and detailed vocals. The newly isolated vocals were then melded with brand-new, authentic backing arrangements played by Studio Rio, an all-star cast of Brazilian musical pioneers from the bossa nova and samba genres, including Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Roberto Menescal and Brazilian musical legend Marcos Valle.

Studio Rio Presents: The Brazil Connection is the latest innovative musical project from the Berman Brothers (Frank and Christian), a production team whose previous work includes Rhythms Del Mundo (2006), a cross-cultural album summit which which fused an all-star cast of Cuban musicians including Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo of the Buena Vista Social Club with US and UK artists and superstars such as U2, Coldplay, Sting, Jack Johnson, Maroon5, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs and others. Rhythms del Mundo was released in more than 61 countries and received multiple sales awards worldwide.

During the past 20 years, the Berman Brothers have received more than 90 gold and platinum awards, two BMI Awards, a Golden Globe nomination, a Grammy nomination (for Love One Another, recorded by Cher) and a place in history for their production and remix of the Baha Men's colossal hit, Who Let the Dogs Out. As producers, writers and publishers, the Bermans have worked with an array of international superstars including Coldplay, Sting, Cher, Real McCoy, Dido, Maroon5, Sophie B Hawkins, Reamonn and members of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club.

Music is the heart and soul of Brazil, celebrating with syncopated beats and beautifully expressive melodies. It's the life force of the entire culture, wrote the Berman Brothers in their notes for Studio Rio Presents: The Brazil Connection. We have always had a huge appreciation of Brazilian music. Between us, we have a massive collection of bossa nova and samba recordings, new and old, a lot which we found in flea markets in Amsterdam, Paris, and London.... Once you get into this music, there really is no way to stop. It was this joyful and timeless music that inspired the idea for this collection. Our goal was to bring the Brazilian joie de vivre to iconic performances by well-known American artists like Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, and many others. What would these classic songs sound like had they been recorded in the studios of Rio De Janeiro in the first place, with the best Brazilian musicians and arrangers?"

"It was an amazing journey-bringing together these American classics and the vibrancy of Brazilian music with the help of so many talented musicians, arrangers and a dedicated production team. We learned many things putting together this music including what was the most important, and least surprising lesson of all: Brazil is the most musical place we have ever been in our lives.

    Rivington Nao Rio

Rivington Não Rio revels in the kind of compassionate
complexity that marks Prefuse 73's greatest works, with a
profound new element added to the mix: Patience.
Guillermo S. Herren's ability to marry the manic to the
melodic has always been uncanny, but here it feels
downright magical as the songs inhale with his trademark
sense of urgency then exhale in longer, more revealing
breaths. The prismatic textures that have long been a staple
of Prefuse 73 are bound to beats and melodies with the
spirit of hip-hop and the subtlety of modern minimalism. The
album's guests treat the material with a hushed respect: Roc
Nation songwriter and Jessie Ware collaborator Sam Dew
turns Infrared into a sublimely soulful, dimly-lit portrait of
    inverted R&B; Milo & Busdriver's vicious, rapid-fire verses
contrast a pastoral downbeat to brilliant effect; and
elsewhere, Pinback's Rob Crow and Latin electronic-folk
crooner Helado Negro navigate splintered tropics with
    passive grace.

As a stand-alone album, Rivington Não Rio ranks
extraordinarily high in the Prefuse 73 canon. As a
centerpiece to an epic triptych that includes the Forsyth
Gardens and Every Color of Darkness EPs, it's a new peak
from a pioneer who appears to only just now be hitting his
prime. For an artist who has played an undeniably integral
role in the careers of so many influential artists, it's not just
refreshing to hear him return to top form...it's revelatory.

    Lost On You

MUSIC DOESN'T HAVE TO BE COMPLICATED.

At the end of the day, it's all about being honest,
taking no B.S., and getting right back up after every
fall. New York-born singer, songwriter, and all-around
rock rebel LP puts it even more succinctly, "I
go Johnny Cash on that shit and just get through it."
As her six-year romantic relationship failed and she
split from her label, LP put her head down and wrote
what would become 2017's album Lost On You.

Its lead single "Lost On You" amassed over 191
million YouTube views as well as 44 million Spotify
streams and went triple-platinum in Italy, platinum
in France, Poland, and Germany, and gold in
Switzerland. Meanwhile, the title track, "Muddy
Waters," soundtracked the Season 4 climax of
NETFLIX's Orange Is The New Black.

LP reunited with the team behind the lead-up EP Death
Valley-producer POWERS' Mike Del Rio [Christina
Aguilera, X Ambassadors] and writer Nate Campany
[Tove Lo, Carly Rae Jepsen, Martin Garrix].

"It's a weird thing," she says. "I feel more
confident than ever before. I don't have to police
myself anymore. For this record, I decided to
unapologetically tress on, keep going, and run
    with my emotion."

Assault on Precinct 13 / The Fog

12 Housed In Deluxe Mylar Mirrorboard Sleeve

Much of the power of the best films by the cult director John Carpenter can
be attributed to their use of music - music that, more often than not, was
composed and performed by Carpenter himself. What began as a necessity for
the low-budget productions by Carpenter became a major part of his aesthetic,
and established him as a pioneering figure in genre-film score work as well as
electronic music in general. Now, flanked by his son Cody Carpenter and godson
Daniel Davies, and with two albums (Lost Themes and Lost Themes II) of nonsoundtrack
material under his belt, Carpenter has decided to revisit some of his
    most beloved themes.

Assault on Precinct 13 was the first feature film Carpenter made after film school,
and he made it partially as an urban reimagining of Rio Bravo, a film by his idol,
Howard Hawks. In Carpenter's movie, a soon-to-be-closed police precinct is
placed under siege by a gang who have taken a blood oath to kill someone inside.
Assault is a classic, not least of all because it has perhaps Carpenter's best-loved
theme. The theme's main synthesizer line, partly inspired by the score to Dirty
Harry and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," is catchy and dread-inducing in
    equal measure.

Carpenter's theme for The Fog is one of his finest, and creepiest. In the film, a
weather-beaten old fisherman tells an ancient tale of betrayal and death to fascinated
children as they huddle together by their campfire. As a piece of driftwood
in a child's hands glows with spectral light, an eerie fog envelops the bay, and
from its midst emerge dripping demonic victims of a century old shipwreck,
seeking revenge. The spooky synthesizer tone in Carpenter's composition evokes
the advance of the fog itself, helping to make this a quintessential horror score for
    a classic horror movie.

This 12 release includes the themes to Assault on Precinct 13 and The Fog, newly
rerecorded by Carpenter and his Lost Themes bandmates. May it serve as a bridge
between the Horror Master's legendary, still relevant past and his remarkable
    present.

Looking On is the third album by The Move, released in December 1970 and is their first LP to feature Jeff Lynne.

With Wood's use of cello and woodwinds and Lynne's piano in addition to their usual guitars and vocals, anticipating the work they would later pursue in The Electric Light Orchestra, whose debut album they were starting to record at around the same time.

The Move was effectively a dead band walking when Lynne joined in February 1970 after fronting (and producing) The Idle Race. Wood had wanted to launch a new group with Lynne that would feature rock and strings, to pick up, in theory, where the Beatles' I Am the Walrus had left off. Brontosaurus was eventually covered by Cheap Trick and Feel Too Good was later featured on the soundtrack of the movie Boogie Nights as well as in the pilot episode of the UK series Life on Mars.

On Air is the second solo release by Alan Parsons following the split of The Alan Parsons Project, however the album's chief creative force was the Project's long-time guitarist, Ian Bairnson. Its concept revolves around the history of airborne exploration. Musically, this album is very different from Try Anything Once and the Alan Parsons Project albums, opting for more of a soft rock sound and a stable band line-up rather than the funky rhythms, symphonic flares, or rotating vocalists of the past.

    On Air

On Air is a collection of rarely heard radio recordings from the Stones formative years. The songs including 8 tracks the band have never recorded or released commercially, were originally broadcast on UK shows such as Saturday Club, and Top Gear between 1963 and 1965. The tapes have gone through the "audio source separation" process, making tracks like Come On, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, and many more sound better than before.

    Soldier On

Nashville's MONA have announced the release of their new full-length album 'Soldier On', their first new album following an extended hiatus that will be released via Bright Antenna Records.

'Soldier On' is a real statement of intent for the band who have survived through the pendulum of being a hype band in 2011, to now, seven years later, beating expectations to create a brilliant record that is both emotionally astute and personal, and has an underlying message of empowerment and positivity. Solider On ... no matter if it all works out the way you like or it all falls apart, all that's left to do is Soldier On says the band's frontman Nick Brown. After doing all things to stand. Simply stand.

    Press On

June Carter Cash has lived a charmed life: as a child member of her name-sake kin, The Carter Family, late-night duets with Elvis Presley, a movie appearance with Robert Duvall, romance with James Dean, and a Grammy Award-winning performing and songwriting career with her husband Johnny Cash.

But, to hear her sing such moving hymns as Diamonds in the Rough is to enjoy the holy, country hospitality of a simple countrywoman of a pure and spiritual heart. On Press On are other such gems as a touching, acoustic version of Ring of Fire, which June co-wrote. Throughout this album, June plays the Autoharp, a type of strummed dulcimer that lends a light, bouncy feel to these pieces that often contain no traditional rhythm section. She displays a worldly sensibility on such folk-rock numbers as the bitter Losin You and humor mixed with wisdom in Tiffany Anastasia Lowe,a song for her granddaughter, the child of daughter Carlene Carter and husband Nick Lowe. June concludes this warm and personal release as she began it, with a moving spiritual rendition of her familys standard, Will the Circle Be Unbroken.

Press On was originally released in 1999 on the tiny Risk Records label. The album immediately garnered tremendous press accolades, culminating with a Grammy award that year. Risk Records went under shortly after release and Press On has been out of print ever since. Dualtone is proud to make this album available on vinyl for the very first time. Press On features guest performances from Johnny Cash, Marty Stuart, Rodney Crowell and Norman Blake.

    On Tour

In the original liner notes for Chuck Jackson on Tour (1964), Bob King describes Jackson "a man with pent up talent." Consequently, this LP is the sound of that talent erupting all over the stage of the famed Apollo Theater, the same venue where Jackson had been discovered a few years earlier. Jackson leads the airtight band through raw, sweat-soaked versions of his hits "I Wake Up Crying" and "Any Day Now," giving the audience their money's worth and more. He also includes well-chosen covers, like Marvin Gaye's "Stubborn Kind of Fellow," Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" and the King of the Apollo himself, James Brown's "Please Please Please." In a true testament to his ability, he makes each of these songs his own, infusing every line with deep emotion. If you only know him from his smoothly-orchestrated studio recordings, Chuck Jackson on Tour will give you an entirely new take on this legendary performer. Working from the original Wand analog reels, Sundazed has mastered this explosive album in the rare true stereo mix for an immersive listening experience. Ramble On

The Ramblin' Ambassadors' third album for Mint Records proves again that the Canadian West is the true home of instrumental rock 'n' roll. Serving up another platter of big beat, no bullshit guitar instrumentals, the boys from Calgary kick up way more turf than surf.

Ever spend too much time at the Brazilian Barbecue? One hot dog too many? Then check out "Meat Sweats"; a greasy homage to that pulled pork you just washed down with a shot of cheap booze. "Back Seat Action" recalls borrowing Mom's land yacht for the big date, and every electric note of "Dallas B. Goode" counts the odometer clicks on your '56 Buick, or maybe even your '73 Pacer. Parties ("Clambake!"), cars ("Super Bee") and even the environmental activism of the forest-scorching "Pine Beetle Express" define what occupies the rock 'n' roll minds of The Ramblin' Ambassadors.

Ramble On was recorded entirely in the band's secret underground bunker, under the tutelage of musical whiz-kid Russell Broom. The album strips the Ambassadors' sound even further back, with pretty much a single track for each instrument. Ramble On has the familiar fiery twin guitar attack of Brent J. Cooper and Gentleman Doug Waite, and careful listeners will notice that Cooper occupies one side of the stereo spectrum and Waite the other.

Scott Nickless rides the yellow line, keeping his big bass right up the middle, and Tyler Pickering's able drumming puts the tyger in the tank. Ramble On maintains the reputations of the Ambassadors' two previous Mint releases, slamming home the fact that they remain, according to Exclaim Magazine, "one of the best instrumental acts around today."

    Shine On

Three Time Grammy Winner and legendary singer songwriter makes her Verve debut with her eighth studio album, SHINE ON. Sarah has sold over 40
million albums in her career and is one of the most respected female artists in music today.

The new album was recorded in Vancouver with longtime collaborator/producer Pierre Marchand (the co-writer of hits like Adia and Building a
Mystery), along with contributions from producer/songwriter Bob Rock (Michael BublÉ, Nelly Furtado) and keyboardist Vincent Jones.

In a press release, McLachlan revealed that the album was inspired by her father's passing and her own appreciation of life: "This album is about moving
through the second half of my life in a more mindful and meaningful way, recognizing that every day, every moment is precious and though we all have
our issues and problems, our damages, we all have the ability to continue to learn, grow from our experiences, thrive and shine on. Many of the songs are
inspired at least partially or wholly by my father's passing three years ago and the profound effect losing him had on me. I had to find my footing again
without the anchor of his unconditional love.

    Heart On

In 2004, the Eagles of Death Metal launched their wholesome good-graciousness with Peace, Love and Death Metal, followed in 2006, by the diabolical Death By Sexy. In 2008, Jesse 'Boots Electric' Hughes, and Joshua 'Babyduck' Homme unleashed their newest tongue in cheek collection, Heart On. The album is another dose of the duo's sex-drenched satire under a backdrop of authentic '60s blues rock and glam-pomposity. Entertainment at its finest.

The album was recorded live over several German and Japanese dates in late 1976 during the Rising world tour. Many of the tracks were spliced together from different dates by producer Martin Birch, and the running order was changed to more easily fit four sides of vinyl. The recording features the customary introduction to a Rainbow show - the classic quote from the The Wizard of Oz, Toto: I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. We must be over the rainbow! with the last word repeated as an echo, then the actual band plays a musical phrase from the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow before breaking into Kill the King.
