    Blows The Blues

...these are all truly classic Verve titles that you simply don't want to miss...most importantly, the sound of these reissues is nothing short of astounding. Particularly the early Billie and Ella mono records are incredible treasures of sonic beauty. I'd definitely ask Santa for the whole set, or, if you want to cherry pick, the most classic titles. Whatever you decide, you owe yourself at least a half dozen! Winner of a 2012 Positive Feedback Online Writers' Choice Award - Danny Kaey, Positive Feedback Online, November/December 2011

Sonny Stitt led a number of excellent record dates in 1959, especially at the end of the year when he produced three LPs for Verve over a span of three sessions with pianist Lou Levy, bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Mel Lewis. Playing alto sax throughout this album, Stitt hardly sounds like a Charlie Parker clone, something that unfortunately was a frequent claim by tin-eared critics throughout a fair portion of his career. The music includes several potent originals, especially Hymnal Blues and the slow, powerful Morning After Blues.

A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart

Bill Ryder-Jones is a talented man. His new album, A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart, marries his masterful capacities as arranger and composer with his first firm steps as a singer songwriter. It's an album of capital-S songs that will more than sate the appetite of those that appreciate his knack for heart swelling melody and painterly detail.

Bill left The Coral after their fifth studio album Roots & Echoes, on which his arrangements hinted at a deeper and spectacular compositional talent. Last year Ryder-Jones explored this side of his creative talent in full with the orchestral album If for Domino sister label Double Six - which was a grand 'imaginary soundtrack' to Italo Calvino's post modernist novel If On A Winters Night A Traveller.

A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart was recorded in Ryder-Jones' old bedroom in the upstairs of his mother's house in Liverpool. Two friends from local band By The Sea made up the backing band for the recordings, which were then produced and mixed together with James Ford.

    Blow-Up Soundtrack

Blow-Up is a soundtrack album by Herbie Hancock featuring music composed for Michelangelo Antonioni's cult film Blow-Up, released in 1966. Musically the songs evoke the ambience of swinging Sixties' London with grooves that create effective bluesy Jazz moods on the slow pieces, and funky ones on the up-tempo tracks.

The album features performances by Hancock on keys, Freddie Hubbard and Joe Newman on trumpet, Phil Woods and Joe Henderson on sax, Ron Carter on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. Rumours go that either the fabled Jimmy Smith or Paul Griffin played the Hammond organ on this record.

Rock fans remember the film and the soundtrack for the inclusion of a rare Yardbirds number, Stroll On (actually, an adaptation of Tiny Bradshaw's The Train Kept A-Rollin'), one of only three songs they recorded with both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on guitars. The bassline to Bring Down The Birds was sampled by Deee-Lite for their 1990 hit single Groove Is In The Heart featuring Bootsy Collins.

'Wired' is Jeff Beck's 1976 solo album. It was this album that started a fruitful collaboration with former Mahavishnu Orchestra keyboardist Jan Hammer whom Beck toured with shortly thereafter. Beck and Hammer interplay extensively between each other by making his synthesizer sound almost identical to a guitar. The result was a more synthesized sound, hence its title, 'Wired'. Some tracks include members of the 'Blow by Blow' lineup. These tracks were recorded during the 'Blow by Blow' sessions but were left off that album and carried over to 'Wired. One of the most highly praised tracks is Beck's interpretation of the Charles Mingus classic 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat'.

    There And Back

Whenever Jeff Beck releases an album, it's always a musical event. As the third in a trilogy of multifaceted career defining albums, preceded by Blow By Blow and Wired, the iconic guitarist unleashed one of the most popular albums in his ever enduring catalog with 1980's There And Back.

This masterwork unites the guitar hero with his powerful team of world class musicians, Jan Hammer (keyboards), Simon Phillips (drums), Tony Hymas (keyboards) and Mo Foster (bass). The brilliant guitar shredder and his quartet of amazing master musicians truly throw down some of his classiest and hardest driving repertoire for this Jeff Beck and Ken Scott (David Bowie/Kansas/Supertramp) production.

The album begins with the rhythmic rocker Star Cycle. The tune finds Beck and Hammer dueling on some very solid power riffs making this a great opening track for the listener. The soulful vibe of Too Much To Lose has the tremendous voicing of Jeff's guitar with Hymas' fine keyboard elements and Phillips' wonderful drum work throughout.

Always an astute bluesman, The Pump retains a solid groove which allows Beck to power away with some very intricate fret work, making this album the classic that it is. Hard rock fusion continues with more classics like You Never Know, El Becko and Space Boogie. These and his jazz rock leaning hits like The Golden Road and The Final Peace truly reward his fans with one of the finest albums in his decorated career!

Friday Music proudly presents the limited edition 180g audiophile release of Jeff Beck's classic There And Back. As a continuation of their highly regarded Jeff Beck Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series, this fine recording is mastered from the original Epic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso (Jeff Beck, Deep Purple, Yes) at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray.

Also for this rare anniversary edition, Friday will be presenting the original artwork now in a very limited first time gatefold cover featuring all of the art elements you remember from this incredible 1980 career album for Jeff Beck.

    The Making Of

The Bohicas debut album The Making Of lands blow after blow. A barrage of killer hooks, razor blade riffs and choruses that slap you in the face, grab your hand and lead you onto the dance floor. All shot through with pulp imagery torn from the pages of a graphic novel. Their story begins in Essex where as schoolmates they first came together over a love of The Beatles, The Kinks, Ray Charles and the new wave of guitar bands who emerged at the start of the century after the scrag ends of Britpop had finally limped off. The album was was produced by Mark Rankin (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bombay Bicycle Club), Chris 'Merrick' Hughes (Tears For Fears, Adam And The Ants) and Oli Bayston (Toy, Boxed In). It contains everything KREATOR is known for and it will blow your minds. Promise! Regarding the artwork Petrozza adds: The cover is a perfect reflection of my lyrical vision. Run-DMC

Future archaeologists will discuss two periods in 1980s: before Run-DMC and after Run-DMC. It's no exaggeration to say that the group
changed the course of music in the '80s, bringing the old-school of rap into the new with one simple piece of flat, black plastic.

Coming up in the rap world of the early 1980s under the wing of Kurtis Blow (group manager Russell Simmons managed Blow, and Run
was, at one time, a DJ known as "Son of Kurtis Blow") and Blow's bassist and burgeoning super-producer Larry Smith, the trio - Joseph
"Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell - learned from the best, but created their own path.

1983 was the year that they first broke out. With only an Oberheim DMX drum program and some cuts by Jay, "Sucker M.C.s (Krush-Groove
1)" was a shot across the bow to the slick, post-disco pocket rap had settled into. It was raw, pure swagger and it took both New Yorkers
and music aficionados around the world by storm. The song's lyrics are a mandatory memorization assignment to this day by MCs learning
their craft. "Two years ago, a friend of mine "

The group's sound, which was laid out muscularly on Run-DMC, had a harder approach than their peers, thanks to producer Larry Smith's
use of live musicians who laid down grooves but didn't soften the edges. Lyrically the group wasn't just about brags either, with songs like
"Hard Times," "It's Like That" and "Wake Up" (the first two were singles). Run's and DMC's overlapping tag-team approach to lyricism was
    powerful and immensely influential.

"Rock Box," another single and arguably the centerpiece of the album, was a nod to their hard edge, and a foreshadowing of their first
worldwide smash, 1985's "King Of Rock." Jam Master Jay's DJ work was stellar, knowing exactly when to jump in and put listeners' ears in
    a headlock.

The album was the first rap full-length to achieve Gold status, and as fans know, the group was just getting started - their next two LPs would
take them to even higher status in the music world, critically and sales-wise. But this is where it all started, and it's a classic that still sounds
fresh today as it did more than 30 years ago.

Born and raised in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, the sultry-voiced Lipa attended Sylvia Young Theater School (Rita Ora, Amy Winehouse) until the age of 13, when she relocated to Kosovo with her family. However, the move wouldn't last very long, and she was back in London by age 15, living on her own and pursuing a singing career. Her shimmery debut single, New Love, was followed up with the soulful Be the One. Longlisted for the prestigious BBC's Sound of 2016, Dua Lipa released Hotter Than Hell and Blow Your Mind (Mwah) in 2016, coinciding with a tour throughout the spring and summer. While Hotter Than Hell went on to break the Top 20 in the U.K., in 2017, she earned the distinction of having three simultaneously-charting singles in the U.K. Top 15 with Be the One, Scared to Be Lonely with Martin Garrix, and No Lie with Sean Paul.

    Includes 1 Bonus Track

By the time that jazz icon/bandleader/percussionist Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers began recording for Riverside in the fall of 1962, Blakey had already been the spiritual center of the group for nearly 15 years. The unprecedented caliber of performers who had already passed through the revolving-door personnel reads like a who's who of 20th century jazz. On Caravan -- his first of several notable sides for the venerable label -- he is joined by a quintet of concurrent and future all-stars. Likewise, it could be argued that each has never again been presented in such a fresh or inspired setting as on these recordings. In order to establish with any authority just how heavy (even for purveyors of hard bop) the players in this band are, they need only to be named: Curtis Fuller (trombone), Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Wayne Shorter (tenor sax), Cedar Walton (piano), and Reggie Workman (bass). With Blakey (drums) firmly at the helm, these Jazz Messengers deliver a scintillating synergy that doesn't sacrifice intensity for the sake of cadence. The trademark give-and-take that graces the laid-back and sophisticated pop and jazz standards Skylark and In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning likewise is responsible for the palpable energy brought to the sizeable contributions from Shorter and Hubbard -- which make up half of the album's material. The title and leadoff track liquefies Duke Ellington's original arrangement and ignites it, fueling this extended fiery interpretation. Hubbard's first solo harks back to his own recording of Caravan, which can be heard on the Impulse release Artistry of Freddie Hubbard and was recorded earlier the same year. Coincidentally, that disc also features Curtis Fuller as well as a rare non-Sun Ra-related appearance from John Gilmore (tenor sax). Blow for blow, however, this reading has more than just an edge -- it possesses the entire blade. The melody snakes in and out of Blakey's strident flurry of syncopation. Another highlight is Shorter's interjectory solo, recalling his ability to succeed John Coltrane in Miles Davis' coterie. Among the original compositions, Shorter's upbeat Sweet 'n' Sour stands out as the most cohesive and ensemble-driven, although the singular group dynamic is well applied to the lively This Is for Albert as well. By contrast, Hubbard's Thermo is more angular -- taking full advantage of the musicians' aggressive chops. The 2001 20-bit remaster from Fantasy contains two bonus tracks: take four of Sweet 'n' Sour and take two of Thermo. This release can be considered definitive Blakey, bop, and Jazz Messengers.

Science & Magic: A Soundtrack to the Universe

Lil Bub has had her paws in the music world for quite some time now. She's tight with Steve Albini, produced a single for Kelley Deal, worked closely with David Yow, collaborated with Andrew W.K., spearheaded 50 Bands and a Cat (she's the cat), been held by Jonathan Richman, has a song written for her by Kimya Dawson, was rapped about by Aesop Rock, enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with Murder by Death, appeared in The Foo Fighters' HBO Documentary, Sonic Highways, was the July, 2014 cover story for SPIN Magazine, and famously appears on Run the Jewels' highly anticipated Meow the Jewels record made up entirely of cat sounds.

And now she's finally ready to blow minds with the very first full length concept album written by a magical space cat, and it's darn good. This is music made by a magical space cat. The songs on this album are the soundtrack to BUB's universal adventure, and a soundtrack to the universe itself. You'll feel transported by the music's stimulating spirit, and taken to places beyond your imagination's limits, all the while experiencing the sonic aura of BUB's loving and compassionate presence.

    Forever Found EP

    Limited Edition Clear Vinyl

The EP is highlighted by title track "Forever Found," which has already been championed by the ever-influential public radio station, KCRW, as well as by LA Weekly, which recently cited the evocative track in naming KAN WAKAN among the "Los Angeles Bands About To Blow Up" in coming months. In addition to an evolved take on the original "Forever Found" recording, the EP includes the spectacular "Midnight Moon," an epic suite of unprecedented adventurism, presented in two remarkable movements.

KAN WAKAN emerged in early 2012, under the moniker of Oren Lyons, as the musical brainchild of composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Gueorgui I. Linev. The Bulgarian-born musician originally set out to create solely instrumental music inspired by his lifelong passion for classical minimalism, but the involvement of chanteuse Kristianne Bautista and producer/guitarist Peter Potyondy rapidly saw the project grow in both scope and purpose.

Since then they have dubbed themselves with the Native American-inspired abstraction, "KAN WAKAN." The trio was abetted by Ian Anderson (bass), Dannon Rampton (violin), Jesse Aumiller (keyboards, saxophone), and Keith Krey (drums), all of whom helped bring the bold sonic vision to full fruition. At the forefront is Bautista's powerful, provocative voice - described by Linev as not unlike "the lead instrument in an orchestra" - which conveys remarkable levels of romantic nuance and human complexity to songs like the mysterious "Moving On" which can also be found on the EP.

    Live & Louder

    Pressed On 2x 180-Gram Vinyl

    Includes Bonus CD

'Live & Louder,' The Dead Daisies' highly-anticipated live outing, is set for release on Spitfire Music / SPV and perfectly captures the awesome vibe of their supreme, sweat-drenched, roof-raising live sets, recorded on a heady high at the end of an unbelievable 2016.

Not to turn down a good opportunity, the band recorded a number of shows on their UK / European Tour with the same team that made 'Make Some Noise' blow speakers worldwide. The album was mixed by Anthony Focx (Aerosmith, Bad Company, Metallica, Santana) at Focxhole Studios and mastered by Howie Weinberg.

They assembled a true monster in the vein of the great live albums of the 70s. You can feel the sweat drip from the ceilings and the energy of the crowd becoming one with the band, as they scream, holler and forget about our often mundane reality for a night of true Rock'n'Roll.

Warts 'n all, 'LIVE & LOUDER' is a document of a band in their prime; a raw slice of visceral energy, an in-your-face assault on the senses. Simply: THE DEAD DAISIES in their element and at their best!

    Midnight Special

Before Uncle Kracker spent six weeks at #1 with When the Sun Goes Down, a duet with good friend Kenny Chesney, country music might've seemed an odd place to find the Detroit-based good-time Kid Rock alumni. But as several summer tours with Chesney, the Top 5 Smile and the enduring recurrent status of Sun prove, Uncle Kracker's deep melodies and sense of what the heartland means has made him a perfect fit in today's post-rural realm of country music.

The first single Nobody's Sad on a Saturday Night, a theme song for a weekend party, from his label debut Midnight Special, has already hit the airwaves and is being embraced by Country radio. With producer Keith Stegall at the helm (Alan Jackson, George Jones and Zac Brown, as well as writing #1 songs for Jackson, George Strait and Dr. Hook), Uncle Kracker took his strong sense of melody and infectious choruses into the studio in Nashville. Writing all 11 songs with some of Nashville's best known writers, including Shane McAnally (Come Over, Somewhere with You, Last Call), Scooter Carusoe (Anything But Mine, Better as a Memory) and Chris Tompkins (Before He Cheats, Blow Away), as well as Detroit rocker JT Harding - Uncle Kracker grounds his music in bands people know, places they've been, moments they've shared and a real sense of America today.
