Here Lynne has artfully revisited and re-recorded the greatest hits of Electric Light Orchestra, and actually improved on some of the most classic and beloved recordings ever.

The result is, in effect, a kind of showdown between Jeff Lynne today and his extremely illustrious past, and thanks to improved technology and recording artistry, wouldn't you know Lynne somehow comes out on top again.

    Point Of Departure

Point Of Departure is not only one of the greatest jazz recordings of 1964, but of all time. The stellar lineup (Eric Dolphy, Kenny Dorham, Joe Henderson, Richard Davis and a teen aged Tony Williams) was given a set of challenging compositions by the brilliant pianist and composer Andrew Hill. This group created the album known as Point of Departure, an acknowledged modern day classic and one of Blue Notes most extraordinary recordings. Andrew Hill was a quiet revolutionary, but he was every bit as original in his conception as Thelonious Monk. Hill extended, twisted and turned hard bop into his own very fresh and personal music. Like Eric Dolphy, Hill spawned few imitators. His conception was so pure, and so unique, both as a player and as an arranger-composer that nearly a half century later, Point Of Departure remains a brilliant touchstone of modern jazz.

    Point Of No Return

Point of No Return on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram Stereo LP from Mobile Fidelity

Memories of You: Sinatra Waves Farewell to Capitol on Elegantly Dressed Standards Set from 1961

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Mobile Fidelity 180 Gram LP Captures Gracefulness of Ornate Orchestrations

Sinatra Reunited With Arranger Axel Stordahl, Collaborator That Spearheaded the Voice's Rise in the 1940s

Thematic Songs Address Goodbyes With Profound Sense of Sadness, Longing

Nobody says goodbye like Frank Sinatra. For his final album with Capitol, Ol' Blue Eyes elected to croon an unforgettable selection of farewell songs marked with longing, sadness, and poignancy. To make the occasion even more special, he teamed with arranger Axel Stordahl, the virtuoso that helped launch Sinatra's star at Columbia during the 1940s. The results amount to one of the finest send-off statements in history.

Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity's numbered limited edition 180 gram stereo LP presents the songs as they should be experienced: In rich, lush, front-to-back sound in which the strings soar and literally inhale and exhale. Sinatra's singing, as good as it's ever been during his career, comes across with unfettered transparency and tonal purity. Such is the fidelity, the music turns into aural poetry, rendering completely fluid and tube-amp warm the rushes of strings, words, and structures.

Sinatra fans continually debate which of the artist's albums rank as his best, but there's no doubting the status attached to Point of No Return. Unquestionably the most overlooked effort in the Chairman's Capitol catalog, it defies common expectation that it was made haphazardly to simply fulfill a contractual obligation. Sinatra's presence alone guarantees that isn't the case, yet Stordahl's involvement ensures this 1961 set is something very special indeed.

The chemistry between the old collaborators is immediately evident. Sinatra inhabits every phrase, feeling, and expression conveyed on the dozen standards, achieving an intimate connection with Stordahl's instrumental accents. Akin to the downbeat moods he casts on the immortal In the Wee Small Hours and Only the Lonely, the vocalist keeps calm and cool, yearning and reflecting as if he's strolling a barren downtown after midnight, a man left alone with his thoughts and memories. Somber, wistful, meditative, teary-eyed sentimental-Sinatra paints each song with the emotions they need, nothing more and nothing less.

From regal ("These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)") to nostalgic ("I'll Be Seeing You"), relaxed ("September Song") to dramatic ("When the World Was Young"), Stordahl's treatments blush with natural ease and instinct, setting up Sinatra for countless moments of sublime beauty. Vocal pop aficionados, you don't want to miss this classic.

2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Valley Of Rain, the debut album by Giant Sand, the ever-shifting alternative rock band overseen by the Godfather of Alt-Country Howe Gelb. With that in mind, the band are celebrating in the only way they know how: with a flurry of great music, including the release of this new Giant Sand record Blurry Blue Mountain. This special edition is being released in a limited edition of 500 copies on blue vinyl and 500 copies on picture disc.

On this album, it happened that every session we were able to record came between work loads that rendered us at that point of sleeping and waking. Like the poppy fields in Wizard of Oz, we went in and out of consciousness at various times during recording. This is not a bad thing. Nor does it make the record sound like we're asleep. it has the momentum of that place between sleep and being awake. and in that narrow slip of existence lies a landscape of reason that most of us hurry past in daily lives. This record is planted firmly there between the crystal clear focus of your day to day and the luxury of sweet fuzzy sleep, we welcome you to the blurry blue mountain. - Howe Gelb

    Copper Blue (Discontinued)

The Classic 1992 Album Remastered & Pressed on Vinyl for the Very First Time!

Sugars secret ingredient was Bob Moulds popcore, his own personal brand of power pop, heavy on the angst and doom and gloom, with the back beat to drive the point in, and the melody to help make it all stick to your heart. Following nearly a decade as guitarist with the legendary hardcore band HÜsker DÜ, Mould formed Sugar with drummer Malcolm Travis and bassist David Barbe and recorded what is arguably his best recording since the mid-'80s, combining the dense, melodic noise of his previous recordings with a sharp, bright, hypnotic musicality.

Copper Blue turned heads in the press and radio world, and became one of the most influential albums of the early 90s. The critics lauded the album as a breath of fresh air, and to this day their Top-Ten lists are packed with bands who would never have gotten there unless there was Mould and his Sugar.

    Blue Bell Knoll

Heavyweight Black Vinyl Cut From HD 96/24 Masters

Blue Bell Knoll is the fifth album by Cocteau
Twins. Originally released in 1988 by 4AD in the UK
and Capitol in the US, Pitchfork listed this album
as one of the best albums of the 80s. This was the
band's first full studio album to be released in
the US via a distribution deal with Capitol. The
album marked a turning point for the band. Robin
Guthrie stated ""At first you're just trying to make
a record, and then you're trying to make a really
good record. And then you're trying to go further.... Blue Bell Knoll was a really important
record to me. It really sticks as one of my favorites. Perhaps not because of how it came out,
although it is quite listenable, but because of the
    experience of making it."

Heaven or Las Vegas followed in 1990, and the release was also via 4AD in the UK and Capitol in the
US. It was the band's last album for 4AD, and was
their most commercially successful possibly due
to Elizabeth Fraser's much more intelligible lyrics. Numerous publications declared it one of the
best albums of the 90s and Pitchfork called it "a
core of ungodly gorgeous songs that is every bit
as moving and relevant today as it ever was".

Both of these albums have been unavailable on
vinyl for some time. Heaven or Las Vegas has never
been commercially available in the US on vinyl,
while Blue Bell Knoll's vinyl via Capitol wasn't
re-pressed after the initial release, and therefore
hasn't been available in at least 25 years.

    Blue Rose (Pure Pleasure)

One of Rosemary Clooney's best records, and one of Duke's more accessible offerings, combined on one LP. The recorded output of the 1950's didn't get much more satisfying than this. Duke's music was always very sophisticated and this time it's even more obvious with a presence of such a talented singer as Rosemary Clooney. The songs are marvelous and she sounds young, fresh and sexy (ladylike sexy). In Blue Rose, not only are Clooney's vocals outstanding, but the arrangements are some of the prettiest of jazz.

The band swings simply and sweetly, though still thoroughly in the Duke style. As if to make the point that the band is the 'other' star of this recording, there's one instrumental here - Passion Flower (Johnny Hodges on sax never sounded more sure of himself). Its inclusion in the program, without a vocal from Clooney, is at first bizarre - but seems to make sense within the context of the album.

The fascinating album notes explain why and how separate tracks for Rosemary Clooney and Duke Ellington's orchestra had to be laid down. One would never realize that singer and orchestra were not together. They are totally in sync. This is not big, belting jazz; this is sophisticated, late night, intimate singing and playing. This is one of the most memorable pairings of a 'popular' singer with a jazz giant; ranking with the first Sinatra-Basie album and the Coltrane-Hartman session.

    • Rosemary Clooney (vocal)

    • Duke Ellington (piano, arranger)

    • Billy Strayhorn (arranger)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Special Vinyl Reissue

John Coltrane: One Of The Greatest Saxophonists In History, And One Of The Most Influential Musicians Of All-time.

The recordings that make up Afro Blue Impressions were acquired by jazz impresario/auteur Norman Granz during the tours he produced for many jazz
artists during the 1960s, though they weren't issued until 1973. Recorded at shows in Berlin and Stockholm, the John Coltrane Quartet -- with pianist
McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones -- is in tremendous form here, using a familiar repertoire in order to expand upon the
group's own building blocks in creating the new post-harmonic system that the saxophonist was developing. Afro Blue Impressions is a rhythm collision,
where mode gives way to some of Trane's most angular soprano playing, pushing the limits of the instrument and his own dexterity to near breaking
points. This is the sound of one of the greatest -- albeit short-lived -- quartets in jazz history completely coming into its own in concert.

    Notes Of Blue (Awaiting Repress)

Led by the songwriting and vocals of Jay Farrar, Son Volt was one of the most instrumental and influential bands in launching the alt.country movement of the 1990's. A movement that was the precursor to what is now widely referred to as Americana.

The 10 songs on Notes Of Blue are inspired by the spirit of the blues, but not the standard blues as most know it. The unique and haunting tunings of Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Nick Drake were all points of exploration for Farrar for the new collection. The album opens with the country soul of "Promise The World", followed by "Back Against The Wall", a song that could stand alongside the great Son Volt songs of their early albums.

Farrar possesses one of the most distinctive voices in roots, rock, country or any genre. He exudes a soulful longing combined with a wise-beyond-his-years command that is as arresting and compelling as ever. As a songwriter, Farrar's depth and poetic penchant has been the foundation of a thoughtful, deep and intelligent body of work. Both attributes are on full display on Notes Of Blue, as he touches on themes of redemption and the common struggle, both of which are at the core of the blues. Whether you call it alt.country, Americana, roots rock, insurgent country or just good ol' rock 'n' roll, musical trends appear and disappear on regular basis. Notes Of Blue is a testament to the legacy of inspiration and creative spirit that Jay Farrar and Son Volt continue to uphold.

For Wild Blue Yonder to exceed the performance of Sky we increased the diameter of the FEP Air-Tube Insulation by 32%, thus creating greater space around the solid Perfect-Surface Silver Conductors. The Noise-Dissipation System increases from a 5-layer system found in Sky to a 7-Layer System. But to go even further, new techniques and materials needed to be used for the construction of the connectors. Custom-machined Direct-Silver Plated Pure-Copper connectors are Cold-Welded to insure a low-distortion contact between the cable and component.

SOLID 100% PERFECT-SURFACE SILVER CONDUCTORS (PSS): Perfect-Surface Technology applied to extreme-purity silver provides unprecedented clarity and dynamic contrast. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion. Extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface Silver minimizes distortion caused by the grain boundaries that exist within any metal conductor, nearly eliminating harshness and greatly increasing clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers.

FEP AIR-TUBE INSULATION (FEP is a Fluoro-Polymer): Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then later released as distortion. All of Wild Blue Yonder's conductors use Air-Tube insulation because air absorbs next to no energy, and FEP is the best extrudable solid insulation and absorbs less energy than other materials. The FEP Air-Tubes used in Wild Blue Yonder have almost nothing but air around the solid PSS conductors.

DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.

CARBON-BASED 7-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

TRIPLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: The three conductors in "Triple-Balanced" Wild Blue Yonder cables ensure that whether prepared with RCA or XLR plugs, the positive and negative signals have equally low-distortion conducting paths. The 100% coverage shield is never used as an inferior conductor.

COLD-WELDED HANGING SILVER DIRECTLY OVER PURE RED COPPER SYSTEM: This plug design enables a perfect heat-free connection between cable and plug. The connection between the plug and conductors is made using AQ's Cold-Welded System, which provides a superior connection that ensures that the structural integrity of the conductor is kept completely intact. The Cold-Welded System refers to a combination of high pressure at the point of contact and the use of copper- or silver-impregnated paste. (Wild Blue Yonder's silver conductors get silver paste.) XLR plugs are also available.

Lou Donaldson's undisputed masterpiece, Blues Walk, marks the point where the altoist began to decisively modify his heavy Charlie Parker influence and add a smoky, bluesy flavor of his own. The material is still firmly in the bebop style, and the mellower moments aren't as sleepy as some of Donaldson's subsequent work, so the album sounds vital and distinctive even as it slows down and loosens things up. What elevates Blues Walk to classic status is its inviting warmth. Donaldson's sweetly singing horn is melodic throughout the six selections, making even his most advanced ideas sound utterly good-natured and accessible. The easy-swinging title cut is arguably Donaldson's signature tune even above his late-'60s soul-jazz hits, and his other two originals, Play Ray and Callin' All Cats, are in largely the same vein.

African American singer and guitar player who got his start playing on the streets of Memphis around the turn of the century. His enormous repertoire of early folk, blues, old time country and popular music, along with his influence on local musicians has made many point to him as the true father of Memphis blues. He began touring the South with a black face Medicine Show comedian in the 1910s where it is said he met and influenced Jimmie Rodgers, among others. He then moved to Tennessee where he began playing with musician Dan Sane with whom he made his first recordings as the Beale Street Sheiks for Paramount in 1927. Throughout this period Stokes recorded a number of sides for Paramount and Victor until his old time style began to lose popularity with the record buying public.

As Atmosphere steps into their 21st year of making music, Slug & Ant show no signs of 08.12.16.
slowing, compromising or losing sight of their vision. Nor has time revealed any
diminishing of those qualities that have brought them this far. After ending the previous
year with a string of singles that led well into 2016, they still have an abundance of music

The title of this new album may
cause one to question; Is this the point in the career where Atmosphere chooses to step
back, put up the Gone Fishin' sign and reminisce about their successes? The answer, a

Tokyo Blues, a quintessential mid-'60s Blue Note session, is Horace Silver's tribute to the Japanese people who have long supported his funky, Latin-flavored modern jazz. American jazz has always been wildly popular in Japan, and this album is Silver's homage to the many fans that he has encountered on various triumphant tours of the island nation. While Silver's trademark funky Latin/swing is at the forefront, the inspiration of eastern delights is clearly evident in all aspects of this grooving date.

    Singin' The Blues (Pure Pleasure)

Singin' The Blues was issued as Crown 5020 in spring 1957 and featured some of B.B. King's best-loved songs up to that point. The LP included four #1 R&B hits: 3 O'Clock Blues and You Know I Love You (1952), Please Love Me (1953) and You Upset Me Baby (1954); four other top ten hits; plus Blind Love from 1953 and covers of Tampa Red's Crying Won't Help You (1955) and Gatemouth Moore's Did You Ever Love A Woman from 1956. To fill out the album, a superior alternate take of Sweet Little Angel was included. As John Broven observes in his notes: In 1957 Singin' The Blues gave the first real indication that B.B. King was destined to be a major star. Absolutely seminal material; his classic hits.

The Shape Of Blues To Come (Pre-Order)

"Have you heard the news? The apocalypse is coming, and it ain't your daddy's blues." The Apocalypse Blues Revue is back with their sophomore album, The Shape Of Blues To Come. While this may be a side project for a couple of guys from a tremendously successful mainstream metal act (Godsmack), it's also much more than that. There is a grand tradition in the pantheon of blues rock greats, that of the second album that literally defines a band: Led Zeppelin II, Beck-Ola, Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride, to name but a few. Somewhere there is a kid who has been listening to Godsmack, who will now come to know The Apocalypse Blue Revue, and from this revelation of the blues they will backpedal through time and space to discover the long and honorably trod path that leads to Robert Johnson, the Kings (B.B., Albert, and Freddie), all the way forward to the Doors and the British blues rock boom, which finally leads straight to today. Somewhere a kid will listen to this record and discover the blues and decide to pick up an instrument to play or to sing a bit, and we all remember that journey, right? This is one of "those" albums. The Shape Of Blues To Come is that rarest of beasts, a second album that is not just better than their first, but one that defines what the band is at this point, and one that points directly to where the band is going. The Apocalypse Blues Revue is here to stay! The Shape Of Blues To Come will be released worldwide on Mascot Label Group's blues imprint Provogue Records.

Janis Joplin decided to make a sharp turn after Cheap Thrills, and abandoned her previous band Big Brother And The Holding Company. Her new band, the Kozmic Blues Band provided a tighter, more soulful approach to the blues rock 'Big Brother' is known for. By going solo, Joplin made a crucial point: she's got soul for miles on end.

Featuring a horn section and a stronger emphasis on organ, I Got Them Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! yielded soul burners Try (Just A Little Bit Harder), Work Me Lord and As Good As You've Been To This World, as well as slower tracks like Maybe and Kozmic Blues. Hearing is believing!

Recycling The Blues & Other Related Stuff (Pure Pleasure)

One of the most prominent figures in late 20th century blues, singer/multi-instrumentalist Taj Mahal played an enormous role in revitalizing and preserving traditional acoustic blues. Born as Henry St. Clair Fredericks in New York on May 17, 1942, he moved after graduating in 1964 to Los Angeles and, after making his name on the local folk-blues scene, formed the Rising Sons with guitarist Ry Cooder. Not content to stay within that realm, Mahal soon broadened his approach, taking a musicologist's interest in a multitude of folk and roots music from around the world.

The title Recycling the Blues & Other Related Stuff certainly sums up the album quite well -- that's exactly what Taj Mahal has been doing for several years by this point. The first side features laidback in-the-studio work with some nice gospel-inflected back-up from the Pointer Sisters. The second side offers a good look at Mahal's stage show.

    Musicians:

    • Taj Mahal (vocal, guitar, banjo, bass, harmonica, kalimba, conch)

    • Howard Johnson (tuba)

    • The Pointer Sisters (vocal)

Recording by David Brown and George Engfer

    Production: Taj Mahal
