Cherry Bomb to the wall-of-sound horns of radio single The Underdog. Their most heartfelt batch of songs since 2001's Girls Can Tell.

Alabama Shakes' debut release Boys & Girls marks the arrival of a major new rock 'n' roll band. Due out on ATO Records, the album was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN and was produced and mixed by the band. From the heartrending title song to such stompers as Rise to the Sun, the album demonstrates the sense of groove and space the band learned from their idols, along with a blistering force and emotion that simply can't be learned.

    Destroy All Music

Back In Print On Green Vinyl

When original LA punks the Weirdos recorded Destroy All Music (their debut EP) on the day Elvis died, it must have sounded like a threat to western civilisation. Thirty years later, gathered here along with various demos and a 1979 EP, it's less revolutionary, but remains a blast. It's like a fusion of the Clash and the Ramones, fronted by a vocalist several sheets to the wind. The Weirdos failed to secure a major deal, presumably because of John Denney's berserk intensity. The rawness gives these historic recordings a punk edge. It's difficult to deny the nihilistic glory of the title track, in which Denney proclaims: I want to kick in the radio, bomb the record store. Outrageous.

sound isn't easily defined, the allure is the sincerity of a working class band that is honest, genuine, and transparent. Give their record a few spins and

Yo! Bum Rush the Show is the debut album from Public Enemy, it was originally released in April 1987 on Def Jam Recordings. The album debuts the
sample-heavy sound by production team The Bomb Squad and is very much a Rick Rubin-directed production. Each track is comprised of kicking heavy
guitars toward the front, honing the loops, rhythms, and samples into a roar with as much in common with rock as rap. The rage which is so often the
focus of "Nation of Millions" is present but with a little more diversity in subject matter that creates a more well-rounded listen. In celebration of Def Jam's

in a marathon session and finished moments before it was
released digitally on New Year's Day.

The lyrics get (really) heavy but the melodies are so catchy
and the builds are so big and bright that the end result is
more of a rallying cry than a surrender.

Four Craig Leon-produced tracks released on BOMP -- which is the parent company of Voxx -- and five demo tapes that were recorded on four-track comprise this excellent collection. When I Get Off was the number two Garage Record of the Year in 1978 in Boston's Real Paper, and it is a psychedelic masterpiece. The dueling guitars, slashing riff, and great Corraccio bass complement Mono Mann aka Jeff Connolly's blitzkrieg vocals. Here is a slice of pyschedlia that is the fans outdoing the bands they idolize. Also, as with Willie Alexander's demos, it seems Craig Leon did a much better job on smaller budgets. The lyrics are sexist, but fun in Barracuda -- definitely not the Heart song -- Lift up Your Hood, and the aforementioned When I Get Off. There is also a cool cover of Roky Erickson's You're Gonna Miss Me and a fantastic album jacket of the band photographed at what looks like the Rat nightclub inside a red background covered in barbed wire fence. There's even a cool inside joke, Bomb records instead of Bomp, the famous label founded by Greg Shaw. A definite statement about the heart and soul of demos having a special something major-label homogenization fails to establish. Rudy Martinez of Question Mark & the Mysterians has even covered a Connally composition written for Mono Mann Jeff's current group, the Lyres.
