    Wrecking Ball

Bruce Springsteen's politically charged new Columbia Records release Wrecking Ball, his 17th studio album overall, features 11 original songs which 'The Boss' co-produced with Ron Aniello and executive producer Jon Landau. The set boasts three familiar tracks including the title cut which Bruce has performed live since 2009, American Land from the tour in support of 2006's Seeger Sessions and Land of Hope and Dreams, which dates back to the late 1990s.

Said long-time manager Jon Landau, Bruce has dug down as deep as he can to come up with this vision of modern life. The lyrics tell a story you can't hear anywhere else and the music is his most innovative in recent years. The writing is some of the best of his career and both veteran fans and those who are new to Bruce will find much to love on Wrecking Ball.

    Drive All Night

The Drive All Night EP is anchored by Glen Hansard's compelling studio recording of the Bruce Springsteen classic, a live highlight of his 2012 tour with Eddie Vedder. Eddie rejoins Glen here to recreate the magic of their onstage performances, singing harmony vocals as Jake Clemons, nephew of the late great Clarence Clemons, plays saxophone. The whole track becomes a tribute to Springsteen and his musical and activist legacy: Hansard performed the song with Springsteen on stage in Ireland in what quickly became a viral YouTube hit with Hansard donating profits from the EP to Clarence Clemons' Little Kids Rock foundation. With three additional new Hansard originals, this EP will be a must have for fans of Glen Hansard and Eddie Vedder and the thousands of fans who saw their tour, along with Springsteen fans who have already embraced Glen's version online.

    Born To Run

Ranked 18/500 On Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time

Mastered By Bob Ludwig Working Under The Supervision Of Springsteen & Engineer Toby Scott

Bruce Springsteen spent everything he had - patience, energy, studio time, the physical endurance of his E Street Band - to make his masterpiece. There are a dozen guitar overdubs on the title track alone. The album became a monster, Springsteen recalled. But in making his third album, he was living out the central drama in its gun-the-engine rock & roll: the fight to reconcile big dreams with crushing reality. He found it so hard to re-create the sound in his head - the Jersey-bar dynamite of his live gigs, Phil Spector's grandeur, Roy Orbison's melodrama - that he nearly gave up and put out a live album. But his attention to detail produced a timeless record about the labors and glories of aspiring to greatness.

    The River

Ranked 253/500 On Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time

Mastered By Bob Ludwig Working Under The Supervision Of Springsteen & Engineer Toby Scott

The River is the fifth studio album, and the first double album by Bruce Springsteen.

The sources of The River go back into earlier parts of Springsteen's recording career. Independence Day, Point Blank, The Ties That Bind, Ramrod, and Sherry Darling were leftovers from his previous album, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and had been featured on the 1978 tour, as had parts of Drive All Night as a long interpolation within Backstreets. The River had premiered at the September 1979 Musicians United for Safe Energy concerts, gaining a featured spot in the subsequent documentary No Nukes.

Originally, Springsteen intended The River to be a single set entitled The Ties That Bind and released in late 1979 with 10 tracks. Springsteen added darker material after he'd written the title track. Indeed, The River became noted for its mix of the frivolous next to the solemn. This was intentional, and in contrast to Darkness, for as Springsteen said during an interview, Rock and roll has always been this joy, this certain happiness that is in its way the most beautiful thing in life. But rock is also about hardness and coldness and being alone ... I finally got to the place where I realized life had paradoxes, a lot of them, and you've got to live with them.

Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings is set to release Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 2, 1987-1996, a limited-edition, numbered boxed set comprised of material recorded and released by Springsteen for Columbia Records during that period. The long out-of-print LPs are available remastered for the first time on vinyl. In addition to Springsteen's four studio albums from the era, the boxed set includes a special 12" of 1988's live EP Chimes of Freedom, Springsteen's 1993 two-LP MTV Plugged special, and the first-ever vinyl release of the 1996 Blood Brothers EP for a total of 10 discs. All of this material comes in recreations of the original packaging, accompanied by a 60-page book featuring rarely seen photos, memorabilia and original press clippings from the period.

For The Album Collection Vol. 2, remastered albums from acclaimed engineer Bob Ludwig and Springsteen's longtime engineer Toby Scott have been pressed on vinyl for the first time. The albums were transferred from the original analogue masters using the Plangent Process playback system. 1987's Tunnel of Love and 1992's Human Touch have also been expanded across two LPs to maximize audio quality.

All four of Bruce Springsteen's studio albums from this period were certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the RIAA, with three reaching the Top 5 of the Billboard 200. The Vol. 2 collection follows the 2014 release of Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 1, 1973-1984, which included newly remastered editions of the first seven Bruce Springsteen studio albums.

Sparsely-recorded on a cassette-tape Portastudio, the tracks on Nebraska were originally intended as demos of songs to be recorded with the E Street Band. However, Springsteen ultimately decided to release the demos himself. Nebraska remains one of the most highly regarded albums in his catalogue. The songs on Nebraska both deal with ordinary, blue collar characters who face a challenge or a turning point in their lives, but also outsiders, criminals and mass murderers, who have little hope for the future - or no future at all, as in the title track, where the main character is sentenced to death in the electric chair. Unlike his previous albums, very little salvation and grace is present within the songs. The album's uncompromising sound and mood, combined with its dark lyrical content has been described by a music critic as one of the most challenging albums ever released by a major star on a major record label.

    Born To Die (Awaiting Repress)

Lake Placid, NY native Lana Del Rey is a throwback singer/songwriter whose stage name combines that of the late Hollywood actress Lana Turner and the Ford Del Rey. Pop's newest femme fatale calls herself the gangsta Nancy Sinatra and cites Kurt Cobain, Thomas Newman and Bruce Springsteen as musical influences. She released an EP entitled Kill Kill in 2009 under the name Lizzy Grant and also recorded a full-length album on an independent label with producer David Kahne, which was released for a brief time before it was pulled due to lack of label support. Born To Die is her highly anticipated official debut release on Interscope Records featuring the viral firestorm hits Video Games and Blue Jeans. Her much talked about appearance on Saturday Night Live on January 15, 2012 marked the first artist since Natalie Imbruglia in 1998 to perform before the release of her debut album.

11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory

After twenty years, Dropkick Murphys remain bigger than ever, having sold over 6 million albums worldwide. Their forthcoming CD, 11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory, is a soundtrack to tragedy and triumph alike. On this album, the band carries on the tradition of rough and tumble storytelling - the kind of writing that never leaves fans wondering whether the band have lived what they're singing about. A look back at childhood, a snapshot of a clueless jerk, a stop-you-in-your-tracks reflection on a terrorist tragedy... There are moments of ass-kicking Celtic punk attitude, ball-busting wisecracks, tear-jerking confessions, and the kind of upbeat words of wisdom that can be chanted loud and proud across arenas and stadiums worldwide.

The band continues to sell out venues around the world. They've Boston's Fenway Park and been personally invited to share the stage with everyone from Foo Fighters to Bruce Springsteen to Mumford & Sons. The group's single I'm Shipping Up To Boston"-- from 2005's Certified Gold The Warrior's Code--has sold nearly 2 million copies. "I'm Shipping Up To Boston," a song with lyrics penned by Woody Guthrie, gained mainstream notoriety after being prominently featured in Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning film The Departed. It can be commonly heard at sporting events and on television as a theme song for many sports teams (even outside of Boston).

    Holding All The Roses

I think that this record does a really good job of conveying what we do and what we're about, Blackberry Smoke singer-guitarist-songwriter Charlie Starr says of Holding All the Roses, the band's fourth studio album and its first Rounder release. Indeed, Holding All the Roses compellingly captures the energy, attitude and honesty that have already helped to make Blackberry Smoke one of America's hottest live rock 'n' roll outfits, as well as a grass-roots phenomenon with a large and fiercely loyal fan base that reflects the band's tireless touring regimen and staunch blue-collar work ethic.

The 12-song set-produced by Brendan O'Brien, whose previous production clients have included AC/DC, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young-showcases the Atlanta-based quintet's emotion-charged mix of bluesy rock, gospel soul, and country, with Starr's raspy twang matched by his and Paul Jackson's snarling guitars, Brandon Still's hauntingly expressive organ and piano, and the propulsive sibling rhythm section of Richard and Brit Turner. The songs' musical and emotional appeal is further elevated by the band's three-part vocal harmonies and expanded arrangements that make judicious use of fiddle and added percussion.

The five musicians' instinctive musical rapport manifests itself equally strongly on such surging rockers as Let Me Help You (Find the Door), Living in the Song and Wish In One Hand, and on such intimate, introspective tunes as Woman in the Moon, Too High and the stirring, acoustic-textured No Way Back to Eden. The album's musical and emotional depth demonstrates how Blackberry Smoke continues to extend and expand the Southern rock tradition.

    Top Of The World

Slightly Stoopid's Top of the World continues the onward and upward trend within the band members' musicianship, while bringing the purity and energy of their live shows into the studio for recording sessions. Top of the World is most comparatively aligned with Slightly Stoopid's 2005 studio release of Closer to the Sun, except now the addition and solidification of both trumpet and saxophone are more profound. This is certainly not a step backwards, if anything, Slightly Stoopid enhanced their sound ten fold from their most successful album of all time.

Top of the World contains everything a music enthusiast will adore long after the first spin of the album. Whether the listener adores the hip-hop beats of the album's title track, the uplifting horns on "Don't Stop", the pure roots-reggae style of "Work", or the soulful cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire," Top of the World has all the necessary qualities of an instant classic.

To take the album to another level, Slightly Stoopid invited a whole host of musical studs in their own right with Barrington Levy on "Ur Love", "Ska Diddy" featuring Angelo Moore of Fishbone, "Just Thinkin" featuring Chali 2na, "Mona June" featuring Angela Hunte, "Hiphoppablues" with G. Love, and the legendary Jamaican singer and songwriter Don Carlos on "Marijuana".

The band name Slightly Stoopid doesn't initially give off the sense of soothing melodies, full-brained lyricism and heartfelt tracks from beginning to end, but that is exactly what Top of the World portrays to the listener. Slightly Stoopid's seventh studio album is the band's most complete and all encompassing sound ever tracked, and they recorded it organically in their own studio on their own time.

If you are looking for a 21-track album that will keep the sense of feel good summer vibes alive long into the fall and winter seasons, then Top of the World is the ideal remedy to bring the sound of Ocean Beach, California right to your side. -- Reviewed By: Kris Siuta

    Santa Rosa Fangs

Santa Rosa Fangs is a stirring, stunning, and cinematic look and listen into the sometimes autobiographical, sometimes fictional journey of the venerable California musician Matt Costa through the tangled groves and grapevines of his home state.

Throughout the album's twelve songs, Costa illuminates what he has learned and how he has grown in the past 15 years of his career. His music has taken him around the world, allowing him to work with diverse, respected artists and to connect with people everywhere-from his albums released on Brushfire Records to recording with Belle and Sebastian in Glasgow, to penning film scores and releasing a variety of genre-bending EP's, and to finally coming home to Los Angeles's Dangerbird Records for his first new proper full-length release in nearly five years. A rebirth in a sense, through his keen pop sensibility, studious songwriting, technical mastery, and a modern-meets-vintage sound bursting with bite, Costa has recorded the album of his career, one sure to reach new shores and sailors alike.

"In the past 15 years of my career, I feel I've continually been breaking through, speaking out, and reaching different people," Costa says. "If one of my songs connects now to someone who didn't connect before, then we have a dialogue together. That's the point of music, to have that dialogue and tell a story, and to entertain with a sound that has depth."

He began the recording of Santa Rosa Fangs over a year and a half ago, though some songs here predate that mark. Over the past few years, Costa had challenged himself to explore new terrain, from the acoustic-fingerpicking/lo-fi garage/experimental sounds of 2015's EP's to the acid-washed and reverb-laden soundtrack to the film Orange Sunshine to another complete album that never saw the light of day. Realizing he sought a collection of dyed-in-the-wool songs rather than sonic experiments, in July of 2017 he and producers Peter Matthew Bauer (The Walkmen) and Nick Stumpf (French Kicks) entered a studio to begin work.

"There's a difference when I sit down to write sonic textures and when I sit with a guitar or piano and write a song," he says. "These new songs went back to a traditional sense, and when stripped back to their purest form, they still work. They tell a story, the melodies aren't leaning on anything, and they make instrumentation around them come to life in a new way, but their core is strong. My goal for the EP's was to develop conceptual ideas, making each one in a short period and with their own concepts; Orange Sunshine was a bigger exercise in that. Now, this record is all of those things I was exercising come into their own. It's more of a visualized record that takes you into the world of the Santa Rosa fangs."

The tale of Santa Rosa Fangs centers around a young woman named Sharon, her two brothers Ritchie and Tony, and their story of love, loss, and coming of age in a timeless yet contemporary California. It is replete with long distance love affairs and nostalgic romances woven through the loom of tragedy and time. Interestingly, rather than setting out to create a specific narrative, Costa began noticing a theme in the new songs as he wrote them: an unconscious embodiment of the surroundings in which he himself had grown up. According to Costa, the titular teeth refer to that inescapable feeling of a romantic, tragic, and eternal bite that certain places and events will always hold on us.

"I've interwoven my own stories into a fictional idea of what 'Santa Rosa Fangs' is, from my own time spent living in Northern and Southern California and years driving up and down the coast, seeing the landscape and where life can pull you within one state," Costa says. "It is all these things-the 'bite that is eternal, the smile in the neon'-and it has fangs. They stick with you: the romantic, the tragic, all that. It's the characters' story and my story, too, contemporary but still tortured by the past. It's a window into a time period but spoken as if it's the present. The beauty of love and loss doesn't have a date on it; it's timeless."

The album follows the siblings as they search for love and meaning in their lives, which are ultimately cut short by the passing of both brothers in unrelated accidents. Sharon, left battling with her own mortality and forced to see through a shattered lens, becomes the story's grieving, guarded hero and, as Costa says, is "a little bit me, and a little bit everyone." Similarly, the origin of the characters has one foot in reality and one in the ether. The song "Ritchie" is based on a true family saga, as two of Costa's cousins were twin brothers who died within a year of each other in motorcycle and car accidents in the early 1980s. Likewise, "Phosphorescent Letter" is the story of a local friend's daughter who endured a long-distance, online relationship with a boyfriend in Australia; in that dramatic situation Costa saw a through-line for Sharon's tale. "Because she is so tortured by loss she's afraid of love, so she sets herself up for a distant relationship, illuminated on her phone," he says. "It's a real-love thing that happens frequently these days."

Other concrete inspirations found their way into Santa Rosa Fangs as well. Costa imagined his creations in a setting similar to that of a Jim Jarmusch film, with dramatic events unfolding around them as they attempt to go about their daily lives as earnestly as possible. He also cites Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska as an influence for its songs and characters as well as its moments of sparseness. Like that iconic record, the cover of Santa Rosa Fangs is a stark black-and-white photograph tinged with deep red text, featuring three youths running along a freeway overpass. It's not clear whether the trio-Costa's real-life Orange County neighbors-are sprinting for joy or to escape some unknown entity; Costa hints that to him they are running away from the grabbing hands of time. "The song 'Time Tricks' is about that, too: it's inevitable and coming for you."

Costa also found inspiration in working with Bauer and Stumpf, whom he had previously admired from a distance and whose music resumes he respects greatly. "I really connected with Pete and Nick and took their lead on several ideas," he says. "That's why you partner with someone-you want their input. I shaped things a little differently by listening through their ears than I would have otherwise." Costa cites "Real Love," an upbeat, heavy tune written in 5/4 time, as such a moment of collaboration. Originally intended as an acoustic song, he was encouraged by his producers to approach it from a fresh direction. "I had done that sort of thing before, a Nick Drake, fingerpicking type thing," he says. "Pete and Nick inspired me to take it to a new place. To write a driving rock song in 5/4 is a real challenge, but I had the basis in my pattern and we all drove it home with a really strong beat. On my own I might have stuck with a simpler take, but it felt good to tackle some new ground."

In another circumstance, Costa again came up with two variations of the same song, but rather than being forced to choose between the two, he simply used both. As a result, "I Remember It Well" bookends the album, first as a rollicking, piano-driven number that sets the record's tone and pace, and second as a sparser, quiet version to end it. The latter was the initial version and was also the first song written for the album some four years ago. "That song is both the entrance and exit to this world, and also shows the process of how you can take a song, do it two ways, and both can be impactful and give you different feelings."

No matter how his process or approach may change-in the present moment or in any era of coming-of-age throughout his decade-and-a-half-long career-Costa recognizes that one unique thing in his work will always stay the same: his perspective. "Essentially, what it comes down to is this: I sit down with a guitar, and these are songs," he says. "I've worked hard to understand how to produce them in certain ways. You can try to dress up a song and put a different sound to it, but if the song isn't that kind of song then it's not going to work. I've had to exercise both of those qualities equally-to know how to develop these sounds sonically, and then when I know sonically where I want it to go, I have to write to that. I guess that knowledge comes with 15 years of songwriting experience. I couldn't have made this record any other time than now."

For Matt Costa, the world of Santa Rosa Fangs is the past, present, and future of his life all rolled up into one long stretch of sunlit California coastline.

    Nude Beach II

Growing up in the bucolic waterfront village of Northport, NY, Chuck Betz, Ryan Naideau and Jimmy Shelton played punk rock together since high school, in a succession of bands more than happy to set up at any house party, BBQ or makeshift venue that would have them. The familiar strain of classic rock is the go-to sound on the North Shore of Long Island, but they lived in an alternate universe where Ryan convinced his parents to let him turn the family basement into an occasional all-ages show space, hosting touring groups, and rounding out the bill with whatever band he and his friends were in at the time.

Fast forward to 2008, the boys had based themselves in Brooklyn and Nude Beach was born; the group slowly integrated themselves into the local DIY community, performing in dive bars and warehouse lofts, often several times a week, playing more than 100 shows in less than four years together. They self-released cassettes and vinyl LPs, they booked their own tours, and played in infinite side-projects and spin-off bands at every punk venue in North Brooklyn and beyond.

But while Nude Beach is very much a part of the Brooklyn DIY scene, it's always been more in spirit than in sound; sure, they're as beer-soaked, overdriven and raw as any group around, yet as hard as they've tried to ignore it, the trio could never quite shake the rock & roll of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen which sound-tracked their Long Island youth, and battered vinyl from the Byrds, the Replacements and the Jam sits side by side in their record collections with the hardcore and indie LPs and 7"s that brought the friends together in the first place.

In an increasingly fractured music scene, Chuck, Ryan and Jimmy play against fashion and deliver straight up rock & roll, and moreover, they do it better than anyone has in a long time. They've got the songs, they've got the sound, and they've got the fuck-all attitude that just can't be faked. Nude Beach will rock you if you let them. Turns out it's still more fun than just about anything else going on. Just check out their most recent full-length, II, if you don't believe us!

    120g Red-Opaque Vinyl

Limited Edition Vinyl Reissue Of The Iconic MC5 Guitartist's First Solo Album, Originally Released In 1995 On Epitaph

Wayne Kramer is a songwriter whose reputation writing music for film and television could very well supplant his legend as one of the world's stellar
guitarists. Wayne was a teenage greaser and leader of the MC5, widely recognized as the prototype for punk rock and heavy metal. In 1969, the MC5
released the incendiary album Kick Out The Jams on Elektra Records. After Elektra dropped them due to "radical antics", they released two albums on
Atlantic: Back In The USA, produced by Bruce Springsteen's manager Jon Landau and the masterpiece High Time. Between world tours, Wayne scored
Gold and The Living Theatre's film production of Paradise Now.

Wayne spent 1976-1978 in Lexington Federal Penitentiary, where he was tutored by fellow inmate Red Rodney, trumpeter for the Charlie Parker Quintet.
It was Red who taught Wayne how to read music and the two formed a prison band. After release, Wayne co- wrote the acclaimed R&B musical The Last
Words of Dutch Schultz with Mick Farren, then joined Don Was' revolutionary acid funk band Was (Not Was) as its original guitarist. Wayne helped define
the band's sound through, of all things, the dance hit "Wheel Me Out". In the 1980s in New York City, Wayne teamed up with infamous Johnny Thunders
for a short-lived, headline grabbing, punk rock group Gang War.

In 1994, Wayne moved to Los Angeles and signed with Epitaph Records. He recorded four records in as many years. He produced the album Full Circle
with provocateur John Sinclair and produced an MC5 retrospective collection for Rhino Records entitled The Big Bang, as well as a hits compilation
    Beyond Cyberpunk.

Wayne is recognized nearly as often as a vigorous social activist. Along with wife Margaret Saadi Kramer and British singer Billy Bragg, Wayne founded
Jail Guitar Doors USA, a Los Angeles based non-profit organization that provides guitars for prisoner rehabilitation. Known as "the loudest charity on
planet earth," JGD-USA launched at Sing Sing Prison in 2009 and has since intervened in over 50 adult and juvenile facilities. Shepard Fairey donated
the charity's logo and board member Adam McKay's company Funny or Die donated the design of its interactive site. Shira Piven and Adam McKay
directed a short film entitled The Beast & The Angel for PBS as part of their new LifeCasters series. It is a film about Wayne and it is currently in
    broadcast nationally.

Wayne's brand new album Lexington entered the national jazz charts at #6 in May, 2014. It is the flagship release for the launch of his label Industrial
    Amusement.

Moving forward with the past, Wayne is re-releasing the now infamous The Hard Stuff. The Hard Stuff features members of The Melvins, Clawhammer,
Bad Religion and long-time friend/collaborator, UK anarchist Mick Farren. Released in 1995, this album was the best-selling album of Wayne's solo
career. Nearly 20 years later, Wayne's tunes are finally getting out there again to wow old fans and new fans alike!

Imagine an album that could contain tracks by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Elvis Costello, as well as Frank Sinatra, Cream, and Van Morrison. That's part of the lineup on this various-artists sampler of music used in the television series The Sopranos, music that dates from each of the last five decades of the 20th century, from Bo Diddley's 1950s hit ''I'm a Man'' to Eurythmics' ''I've Tried Everything'' from their 1999 reunion album, Peace. Familiar songs like Sinatra's ''It Was a Very Good Year'' are given a new flavor by being sequenced between very different yet oddly complementary songs. The most interesting moments, however, come with the less familiar material -- cast member ''Little Steven'' Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul's ''Inside of Me,'' Elvis Costello & the Attractions' live take on ''Complicated Shadows,'' Wyclef Jean's rap over Sly & the Family Stone's ''Family Affair'' on ''Blood Is Thicker Than Water,'' which refers specifically to the mafia family story line of the show. The result sounds like an hour with the radio station of your dreams, which is what this kind of album aspires to be. ~ AllMusic Review by William Ruhlman

    Glow (Awaiting Repress)

I've been inspired for this record from a very young age, said Eldredge. I dreamt of the day I could record all these classic songs that I've loved since I was a little kid. I recorded those classics in New York City and tried to give a tip of the hat to the ones that came before me - Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ray Charles - by adding that swing and that soul to the best of my ability. When it came to actually recording, I wanted to live in the experience. We hung Christmas lights in the studio in the middle of May and had musicians from the best bands in the world all in the same room - from horns to strings. Everyone was so inspired to make this classic record. I think it really shows in the songs and I can't wait for people to hear that magic we found.

The album was recorded at the legendary Avatar Studios in New York which has hosted many iconic artists including Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen, John Lennon, Billy Joel, Iggy Pop, Madonna and David Bowie. Produced by Rob Mounsey (Elton John, James Taylor, Idina Menzel, Michael BublÉ) and Jay Newland (Etta James, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton), it will feature many of your favorite Christmas standards, plus an original titled Glow.

    Roadhouse Sun

With a writing style that echoes the working-man sympathy anthems of Woody Guthrie combined with the folky nature of Bob Dylan and a voice that mirrors Bruce Springsteen's, Ryan Bingham is quickly making a name for himself as one of the up and coming Texas bred songwriters. Born in Hobbs, New Mexico, and raised in rural Texas towns like Spring and Stephenville, Bingham made his living as a bullrider on the Texas rodeo circuit. He entertained his rodeo buddies with songs while selling his self-produced records at small clubs and rodeos along the way. His songwriting and voice soon got him noticed by idol and mentor Joe Ely along with Terry Allen, Guy Clark and other Texas legends. His major label debut, 2007's Mescalito, bears the hardscrabble marking of someone accustomed to the tough life. It veers from campfire balladry to ragged roots rock that bristles with roadhouse energy, wrote No Depression. Bingham's major label follow-up Roadhouse Sun is set for release in May of 2009 from Lost Highway Records.

Remastered Directly from the Analog Master Recordings by Chris Bellman

Van Halen will release its first-ever live album to feature original singer David Lee Roth. Recorded on June 21, 2013 at the famed Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan, TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT includes 23 songs, spanning all seven of the band's albums with Roth.

TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT features an electrifying performance by singer David Lee Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen. Van Halen reinvented the sound of hard rock in 1978 with its influential and wildly successful eponymous debut album and then achieved even greater success six years later with 1984. Both albums would define a generation while selling more than 10 million copies each in the U.S. alone to earn diamond-certification from the RIAA. The band recently went back to the original analog tapes and remastered both of these landmark albums - Van Halen and 1984 - which are now also set for release on March 30, 2015 through Warner Bros. Records.

Considered one of the greatest debut albums in rock history, Van Halen took the music world by storm in 1978 with an 11-song manifesto that features some of rock radio's most played songs of all time and scorching concert staples like "Runnin' With The Devil," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," "Jamie's Cryin'," the band's signature cover of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me," and Eddie Van Halen's finger-tapping tour de force, "Eruption." Six years and five albums later, Van Halen had become one of the biggest bands in world around the release of 1984, which includes a number of the band's most legendary songs such as the #1 hit, "Jump," "Panama," and "Hot For Teacher."

Mastering engineer Chris Bellman, who remastered the original albums for Bernie Grundman Studios, Hollywood, CA, was enlisted for these new versions. In order to produce the original sound the band intended, Bellman cut straight from the quarter-inch tapes for 180-gram vinyl.

    Middle Brother

Middle Brother (Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit) played their first show at 2010's SXSW, a tiny late-night unannounced event under the moniker MG&V. Other than recording the album and rehearsing once, they had never played the songs live. The audience (and the mob of onlookers crammed in the doorways and windows) were treated to an impossible-to-forget set by a band of musical comrades who seemed genuinely surprised by the fire that was ignited on stage. It was a rollicking and boisterous show that could have fallen apart at any moment and instead centrifuged into melodic and harmonic brilliance. What held it together was each member's sense of song and performance, a perfect, intuitive balance of craft and feel, equal parts playful and earnest.

In a time when synthesizers and laptops are taking over stages, Goldsmith, McCauley and Vasquez are leading the pack of young rock songwriters who strive to carry on the tradition of figures such as Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zevon and Tom Petty. Middle Brother came together in mid-2009 when the three song-smiths realized, after several on-stage collaborations, that they shared a unique vision and wanted to take it one step further, into the studio. Their songs are anthemic, soulful, passionate and confessional.

The 12 tracks on Middle Brother are the result of their off-the-cuff yet diligent workshop experience. The songs are world-class, the performances raw and immediate as each member pushed the other to bring the best of what they do to the proceedings. The record captures a potent moment in time for these three burgeoning songwriting stars who are just beginning to feel the real power in their respective talents. The members of Middle Brother are confident, but not resolute and stuck. They are willing to explore and are open to each others ideas as they work towards the common ideal of the redemptive power of the song.

The late Nashville songwriter Harlan Howard famously defined the ingredients of a great song as three chords and the truth. Every songwriter knows three chords, but laying bare the truth? Now that can be an altogether trickier affair. In January of 2012, The Gaslight Anthem piled into their old tour van and headed across the New Jersey state line for a 14 hour road trip to Nashville on their own quest for the truth. Their destination was 2806 Azalea Place, Nashville, Blackbird Studio, where the New Brunswick quartet had booked five weeks recording time with producer Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, AC/DC). Their mission: to reconnect with rock 'n' roll in its most feral, pure, stripped-raw form.

Brian Fallon was thirteen years old when he discovered The Clash's self-titled debut album in the racks of Sound Effects Records in Hackettstown, New Jersey: the owner of the store promised the young teenager that the record would change his life. He wasn't wrong. But there was a time, not so very long ago, when The Gaslight's Anthem frontman had grown weary of the sound of electric guitars. After three albums of soulful, impassioned, hearts-on-fire punk rock, Sink Or Swim (2007), The '59 Sound (2008) and American Slang (2010), Fallon needed a change of pace, a change of scenery.

And so, in January of 2011, together with TGA guitar tech Ian Perkins, he formed The Horrible Crowes, a darkly melancholic side-project inspired by his love of The Afghan Whigs, Tom Waits and PJ Harvey. After the band's acclaimed debut album Elsie dropped in September, Fallon joined fellow punk rock troubadours Chuck Ragan, Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio) and Dave Hause (The Loved Ones) on the acoustic Revival Tour, airing stripped-down versions of Gaslight Anthem and Horrible Crowes songs to packed rooms across Europe. And then he returned home to New Jersey and Gaslight, re-energized, renewed and ready to make a full-tilt rock 'n' roll record again.

After six weeks of that there's nothing you want to hear more than a Marshall stack turned all the way up, he says with a laugh. The result is Handwritten, the most committed, affecting and compelling album of The Gaslight Anthem's career to date. Introduced by muscular lead-off single 45, which received it's world premiere on BBC Radio 1 as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record In The World on April 30, it finds the Jersey boys in inspired form, decanting '60's soul, '70's stadium rock, '80s hardcore and '90's grunge into eleven white-knuckle, blue-collar everyman anthems. Fallon likens its incandescent electrical storms to Tom Petty songs (being) played by Pearl Jam. Put more simply, it's a supercharged American rock 'n' roll classic.

We've taken everything we do and gone to 10 with it, explains Fallon. This is definitely the Gaslight Anthem record I would want next, if I were a fan. American Slang was cool, but this sounds like a band who has plugged back into the electric socket again. I think these songs are the closest thing to what we should have always sounded like, adds guitarist Alex Rosamilia. We just hadn't figured out yet how to play it right.

Fallon credits Brendan O'Brien for capturing the raw, live-off-the-floor feel of Handwritten. Fine-tuned in the living room of the small rental house the band shared in Nashville, its eleven tracks were recorded with the whole band eyeball-to-eyeball in one room at Blackbird, vibing off one another's energy. The electricity in the recordings is tangible. Brendan taught us a ton about songwriting and recording as a band, Fallon notes. The whole experience was amazing. That's the guy that recorded Pearl Jam, that's the guy that recorded Bruce Springsteen, that's the guy that did Rage Against The Machine; and that's the guy you want to say 'It's good', because when he says it's good, that's when it's good.

The purity of O'Brien's stark, unadorned recording process served to inspire Fallon's approach to the lyrical themes on Handwritten too. Where previous Gaslight Anthem albums evoked deathless images of Americana, all Cadillacs, jukeboxes, Ferris wheels and wistful, romanticized vignettes of star-struck lovers disappearing into the great wide open, Handwritten is rooted in Fallon's own experiences, lending the record a more immediate, emotional edge. Now I am no angel but I got nothing to hide, the singer rasps on the brooding grunge-noir of Too Much Blood. Can you say the same thing for yourself tonight?

It's supposed to be a letter to whoever is listening, says Fallon. Like, this is what we got beat up by and maybe you did too. There's so many things that I just never wrote about, real personal stuff that I just wasn't ready to talk about yet. Now I think being an adult I have some reflection on it. We wanted to look back on the music that we first found when we were in high school. The truth is, if you're my age, you were listening to Peal Jam and Nirvana and Soundgarden. When that music came out these were guys that we could relate to. They weren't the biggest bands in the world by accident.

And it's no accident either that with Handwritten, the Gaslight Anthem themselves sound built to take on the world. After years paying their dues in the punk rock underground, their major label debut is assuredly the work of a young band who know their time is now. And their laidback, charismatic frontman is ready. I've always been ready for arenas, Fallon smiles. I've just been waiting for them to catch up to me. I want to play Giant Stadium, I always wanted to be a major label, major league band. If I can be the kid that's on the cover of Time magazine, I'll take it. And I'll buy you a drink while I'm at it.

    The Big To-Do

ATO Records is pleased to commence its relationship with the The Drive-By Truckers beginning with the incomparable rock band's label debut, The Big To-Do. The album is the band's 10th in their thirteen-year career and it features 13 new DBT tracks produced by their long time collaborator, David Barbe (Sugar, Bettye LaVette). Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley continue to handle chief songwriting duties here while bassist Shonna Tucker also contributes two originals. Brad Morgan (drums), John Neff (guitar/pedal steel), and Jay Gonzalez (keyboards) round out the current lineup.

The Big To-Do was recorded in three concentrated sessions during the first part of 2009: ten days in January, five days in March, ten days in May. That added up to 25 songs, a dozen of which sequenced into The Big To-Do. We had it mixed, mastered, and completely done, and Cooley wrote the best song that just needed to be on it, Patterson says with his raspy chuckle. This happens a lot with the Truckers, and it's always a good sign. So we went back in and recorded, mixed, and mastered 'Birthday Boy' pretty much in one fell swoop. Thirteen songs, then.
The balance of the remaining tracks, plus five more they've cut in the interim, will make up the Truckers' next album, which Patterson projects as a quieter affair.
This is, in large part, possible because the Truckers have such a long-standing relationship with David Barbe (ex-Sugar, etc.) and the Athens, GA, studio he calls Chase Park Transduction, which long ago Patterson helped to build so as to earn the right to record there.

It's gotten to where, that day of set-up time to get sounds and levels and all of that takes us about two hours, Patterson says. We can pretty much walk in the door, and we know exactly where to put everything to get that sound, so that's just one less thing to have to think about. I wanted to eliminate the distractions. That clarity of purpose translates into a delicious assortment of Trucker songs themed loosely around crime and (self-) punishment. The Wig He Made Her Wear, Patterson says, is both a true story (as seen on Court TV) and the closest he's come to making the movie he started out to make a decade or more back. The Fourth Night of My Drinking will speak for itself, and This Fucking Job (paired thematically with Cooley's wry Get Downtown) is arguably the most political song the Truckers have made since Living Bubba. Which leaves the deceptive, airy simplicity of Shonna Tucker's You Got Another and (It's Gonna Be) I Told You So to reckon with. We always knew she had that in her, Patterson says, delighted with the emergence of another strong songwriter in the band. It was never a secret. She was writing songs all along. But watching it come out has been a really amazing thing to behold.

Off the road, incidentally, didn't mean out of work. First off, there was the matter of cutting an instrumental album with the legendary Booker T, having previously served as the backing band to the equally legendary soul singer, Bettye Lavette. Potato Hole turned out all right, got a Grammy nod, and Neil Young added his touches separately even though it's pretty much a Truckers effort. But it's what they learned making Potato Hole that counts most. I think doing the Booker album really, really paid off a lot on the musical end of this record, even though stylistically it might not sound anything like that record, says Patterson, and then tells the story.

We made that record in four days, and that included the first day when it was, 'Booker, it's wonderful to meet you!' Maybe the third song we tracked just wasn't going the way he wanted it to go. We weren't quite understanding what he wanted. We were playing it right, but it wasn't right. All the sudden he just stopped the session. He gathered us around, and he told us a story about a Thanksgiving dinner, and the way it smelt in the house, he'd been on the road a long time, and they were all in - cousins and aunts he hadn't seen in several years. He said, 'It's just a day where nothing happens, but it's all really good.'

And we sat down and we played it, and we nailed it. It was like a revelation. We're a lyric-driven band, and our songs generally paint scenes and tell stories based on scenes. He instinctively knew that was how we operated. And I think it taught us a lot about how we operated. Going in and making this record, I could tell a real difference in the way the songs hold up musically. We put a little more care into that side of it than I think we ever did before because of what we learned from him.

...an absorbing hunk of smart, crunchy, guitar-driven music shot through with the bands vivid narratives, balanced storytelling, barroom punch, and Southern accents. Its a set that portrays desperate people trying to survive in these ever more desperate times, with the Truckers joyous pride and spirited attitude warding off any bitter aftertaste. Several songs are sad, and at times depressing, but the moods always point up. As it is for Bruce Springsteen, this blue-collar band not only believes in but preaches rock as salvation, and their iron-clad conviction suggests they wont have it any other way. --Bob Gendron, TONE Audio, Issue 27

    We Will Reign

Founded by New York City natives Delila Paz and Edgey Pires, The Last Internationale quickly forged a reputation for poetic, socially
conscious songs and explosive live performances. Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), who is the executive producer of the
band's debut album, noted, "The Last Internationale are one of my favorites in the next wave of rebel rockers. They're raw and real
and mix East Village rock sensibilities with Battleship Potemkin firepower."

Over Thanksgiving dinner at Morello's home, talk turned to the duo's need for a drummer. Morello suggested they talk with Brad Wilk
(Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), and got Brad on the phone. After hearing the material and bonding with Paz and Pires, Wilk
signed on. The Last Internationale's debut album - produced by Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Neil Young) - will
be released by Epic Records in 2014.
