    Doo-Wops and Hooligans

It's better if you don't understand; just listen and have a good time. That's the response Bruno Mars will give you with a smile when asked to describe his sound and music. He would much rather sing, perform and write his songs than talk about them, but that is becoming more and more unavoidable these days. It might seem that Mars appeared out of nowhere, co-writing, producing and performing on B.o.B's #1 Nothin' On You followed by Travis McCoy's chart-climbing Billionaire, but he makes one thing clear: It's not an overnight success.

Mars is a multitalented singer, songwriter, producer and musician who feels most at home when he's performing. Born to a musical family in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was practically raised on the stage. His father, a Latin percussionist from Brooklyn, organized a Vegas-style revue that featured the entire family, including his mother, a talented vocalist. When a four-year-old Mars observed his family performing Motown hits, doo-wop medleys and impersonations for enthusiastic crowds all over his native Waikiki Beach, I was jealous! says Mars with a laugh. My dad put me on stage and I remember singing an Elvis song and that was it. Ever since that moment, I've been addicted.

As soon as he graduated high school, Mars left Hawaii for Los Angeles with dreams of launching his career as a performer. Those dreams got put on hold, however, when The Smeezingtons, the songwriting/production team he founded with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine, suddenly took off. The pair has crafted major hits for a diverse roster of talent, including Flo Rida's Right Round, Travis McCoy's Billionaire, Brandy's Long Distance and K'Naan's Waving Flags, which was the theme song for the World Cup.

On the heels of Nothin' on You and Billionaire and as a preview of what's to come from Bruno Mars, Elektra Records released a 4-song EP aptly titled It's Better If You Don't Understand. The title is taken from a lyric to The Other Side; one of the songs included that features Cee-Lo Green and re-teams Mars with B.o.B. In preparation for this, his full length debut, Doo-Wops And Hooligans, Bruno recently released his first single Just The Way You Are.

    Brahms: Alto Rhapsody (Speakers Corner)

Johannes Brahms: Alto Rhapsody, Song Of Destiny / Gustav Mahler: Songs Of A Wayfarer

The Alto Rhapsody, Song Of Destiny and Song Of A Wayfarer. Each of these three vocal compositions is unique in its expression and construction, yet the frayed emotional worlds of all three works are connected by a multitude of fine threads. The Alto Rhapsody, which Brahms wrote as a wedding gift for Clara Schumann's daughter Julie, in whom he was himself in love, demonstrates with almost Wagnerian weight the anger that the disappointed Brahms must have felt while composing. The Song Of Destiny too, with its sonorous E major waves of harmony, soon announces in C minor the finiteness of existence as Hölderin's poem demands. That finally a hopeful, conciliatory - though unsure - moment lingers is reflected in the musical means. Many emotions and vagaries are emulated in Mahler's song cycle. The journeyman sets off on his wanderings in order to forget his unhappy liaison and strides through the ups and downs of mixed emotions and painful heartache. Drumrolls and march rhythms reflect the real world and sounds of nature, dissonances and a change between major and minor keys show the way from dreams, reality and feelings. The recording with Mildred Miller and the Columbia Symphony Orchestra under Bruno Walter has achieved reference status and is sure of a place in the TAS Super LP List given out by The Absolute Sound.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Mozart: Symphonies Nos. 35 & 41 (Speakers Corner)

    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphonies Nos. 35 K. 385 (Haffner) and 41 K. 551 (Jupiter)

At flea markets in the colourful, pre-digital era, one could occasionally find Bruno Walter's Mozart recordings amongst other 'rarities'. Thin vinyl discs of dubious origin changed hands for a small sum, the cheap bootleg recording gave up the ghost after just a few rounds on the turntable and then vanished into thin air. What remained, however, was a musical impression that - from that moment onwards - influenced what one expected when listening to Mozart's symphonies. Is it the unifying sound with which Walter so harmonically interweaves the slender serenade-like character with the great symphonic idea in the Haffner Symphony? Does the magic of the fast finale, which Mozart wanted »to be played as swiftly as possible«, lie in the brisk tempo or in its clear structure?

An answer to this and other questions is given by this new release of the Symphonies No. 35 and the unique Jupiter. The latter was a linchpin in the history of the genre; it not only terminated and consummated Mozart's creative period but also opened - as the first monumental piece - the way to the great symphonic works of the 19th century. The tightly knit finale in particular, with its sparkling mixture of strict counterpoint and galant style, is highly captivating thanks to its spirited and motivated, yet never overhasty, rendering, which can be enjoyed time and again on this production. And that's guaranteed!

The Famed Recording Returns In A Premier Vinyl Reissue From Analogue Productions!

Mastered From The Original Tapes By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound

Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings On 200-gram Vinyl!

Deluxe Old-style Tip-on Gatefold Jacket With Additional Photos From The Sony Music Archives!

Bruno Walter helped shape the very essence of interpretive style among conductors. Walter's rendition of Beethoven's sixth symphony is perhaps the greatest ever recorded - his reading of the score comes off sounding like a piece of literature or poetry, but that is a great thing and perfectly blends with the music to create a benchmark recording.

And here, once again, Analogue Productions has taken a classic and shaped it to make the premier reissue of this famed LP. Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound mastered this album from the original analog tapes. The cut lacquers were plated and pressed to 200-gram vinyl by our own Quality Record Pressings. The Stoughton Printing old-style tip-on gatefold jacket has been upgraded handsomely by a series of rarely-seen photos of Walter from the Sony Music Archives. Everything about this reissue radiates quality.

Written in 1808, Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major (Pastoral), Op. 68, is deemed one of the most influential by the famed composer. Unlike the vast majority of assumed names by which his works have become known, Beethoven directed from the very outset that his sixth symphony be titled Pastoral Symphony, or a recollection of country life. It was a musical approach to the forces of nature that inspired Beethoven.

Walter's late life was marked by stereo recordings with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble of professional musicians assembled by Columbia Records for recordings.

Originally released in 1958, this recording still sounds fresh, with a broad soundstage, persuasive depth, and a remarkable sense of air and presence. Simply because of Walter's vibrant, fluid interpretation, taking into account both variable tempi and heightened accents, the result is one of the most passionate, awe-inspiring recorded versions of this symphony that's ever been recorded.

Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) (Speakers Corner)

Recordings of classical repertoire in the Fifties and Sixties were made during a time of technical development, which is hardly given a thought in our day with its global digitization and mass reproduction. To appreciate the improvement offered by analogue recording technology as opposed to a high-quality mono reproduction, one can do no better than listen to the present rendition of Beethoven's Symphony No. 3. Bruno Walter and his handpicked Columbia Symphony Orchestra present this major orchestral work with its heroic, revolutionary character as a grand symphonic undertaking. Thanks to the new studio technology, Beethoven's 'new path', and his daring experiment with musical form and content is revealed with previously unheard of depth and amplitude. Just how prudently Walter approaches the score is shown again and again in the highly detailed reconstruction and finely chiseled rendition of passages for small ensembles. Instead of depending upon brusque contrasts of the elements, Walter's conducting concentrates on exposing the wealth of differing styles and tonality in the score. This strategy of balancing out the contrasts blazed a trail for today's unremitting search for the much-heralded original sound.

This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.

Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 4 & 5 (Speakers Corner)

Schoenberg, Zemlinsky, Korngold - Bruno Walter knew them all: musicians who sought refuge from the henchmen of the Nazi Party in the New World and found artistic fulfilment there. And they all knew him and his meteoric rise to success at all the great houses in Europe. Formed by working with Gustav Mahler in Hamburg, under whose wing he rose from rÉpÉtiteur to Chorus Director and then to Kapellmeister, Walter took on further posts as Chief Conductor in Vienna, Munich and Leipzig where the talented artist matured to become a true maestro.

Just when the aged Walter was wanting to retire into private life, Columbia motivated him to record several symphonic works - including Beethoven's Symphonies - at a time when stereo recording, with its previously undreamt technical possibilities, was just dawning. Even without any knowledge of the still existent recordings of the rehearsals of the Fourth and Fifth Symphonies, the final recording reflects the lifelong experience and meticulousness of the great conductor. In a taut and relaxed manner, and certainly not mellowed with age, Walter brings the scores to glow. The players weave a web that holds the formal symphonic components together with sophistication and richly contrasted, whereby the conductor's love for tonal detail manifests itself in easily identifiable instruments.

This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.

Here Come The Runts (Awaiting Repress)

Multi-platinum artist AWOLNATION's third studio album 'Here Come The Runts' has been released by Red Bull Records.

"When all else is taken away, as long as your passion remains, anything is still possible," says singer, songwriter and producer Aaron Bruno. "'Passion' is about finding the balance that can lift both you and those around you to make the world a more positive place. It doesn't matter what names or labels people throw at you."

Serving as a follow up to the platinum-certified debut album Megalithic Symphony, and 2015's Run, which included No. 1 hit "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" as well as Top 5 tracks "I Am" and "Woman Woman," AWOLNATION's third undertaking sees Aaron Bruno once again at the helm producing, writing and recording. "With this record I really wanted to make a rock n' roll/pop album." says Bruno. "And I say 'pop' how I grew up listening to it, in the sense of Dire Straits or Born In The U.S.A or The Cars or Tom Petty."

Bruno spent 2016 crafting the album in his home studio nestled in the coastal mountain range separating the Pacific Ocean and the suburbs of Los Angeles where he grew up. The secluded location is reflected throughout the album. "The record definitely has a feel to it that seems parallel to the vibe of this mountain and the land," Bruno notes. "It's like a non-GMO record. There's no fake shit on there, none of the vocals are tuned. It's all real playing."

With the albums he grew up listening to as a sort of goal post, Bruno set out to create his version of an all-American rock n' roll album; 2017, AWOLNATION style. "I wanted to make an album that felt like the dream of America that isn't necessarily true, certainly not as much as it once was. Or maybe it never has been but the idea of when you listen you just feel this nostalgic sentiment of a high school reunion, or that girl you fell in love with that you never got to talk to in junior high The feeling of unity and anthemic songs. The spirit of what I thought Born In The U.S.A was is what inspired this record in a lot of ways."

Gagel (Miley Cyrus, New Order, Muse), and recorded at WAX LTD in Hollywood, California - is a brighter, more
sparkly, more sophisticated, more psychedelic Best Coast album across the board, embodying the rich lightness
and stinging darkness of a California state of mind.

    The Only Place

The Only Place is the follow-up to Best Coast's acclaimed 2010 album Crazy For You and it finds the proudly Southern California duo of Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno maturing in both their sound and perspective. While Crazy For You was a nostalgic tribute to teenage feelings, this new album finds front woman Cosentino transitioning into adulthood, with the feeling of uncertainty and self-doubt at the emotional center of the album. The Only Place also features a love song to her home state of California in the title track. All encompassed in the memorable album cover, derived from a 1913 sheet music illustration paying homage to the golden state.

As with all of Best Coast's previous recordings, on The Only Place, Cosentino handles all songwriting lyrics, vocals and rhythm guitar, while multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno plays lead guitar, bass and drums. What's new this time is their decision to work with producer and composer Jon Brion. A revered figure in the music world, Brion has collaborated with artists like Fiona Apple and Kanye West and created scores for such films as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Punch-Drunk Love.

Recorded at Capitol Records' famed Studio B, The Only Place features a cleaner and richer sound than other Best Coast releases. Many of the songs' arrangements are detailed with subtle percussion and unexpected instrumentation. Intricate but never overworked, the biggest change from previous releases is how it showcases Cosentino's voice, this time letting it ring clear, unhidden by distortion and reverb.

2 Steps From The Middle Ages

    Pressed On Translucent Orange Vinyl

Packaging Includes Rare And Previously Unseen Photos From The Band's Photographer, Robert Toren

The Reissue Also Features Essays From Easter, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star), And Franklin Bruno (The Village Voice, Salon.com)

Their final studio album - remastered and expanded! Following up 1987's Lolita Nation (whose reissue appeared on numerous year-end "best of" lists for 2016) would be no easy task for Game Theory. But, Scott Miller and company were certainly up for the task.

Re-teaming with producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M., Marshall Crenshaw, Velvet Crush), 2 Steps From The Middle Ages was released in 1988 and showed the band had no shortage of energy, experimentation, and excellent material.

The first pressing of this LP reissue, on vinyl for the first time since its initial release, comes on translucent orange colored vinyl. Packaging includes rare and previously unseen photos from the band's photographer, Robert Toren, as well as essays from Easter, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star), and Franklin Bruno (The Village Voice, Salon.com).

The band's drummer, Gil Ray, who was involved in all aspects of the Game Theory reissue series including this title, sadly passed away earlier this year. This reissue is lovingly dedicated to him.

    Undercard

Comprised of John Darnielle (the Mountain Goats) and Franklin Bruno (Nothing Painted Blue, the Human Hearts) The Extra Lens began as a potential home for any song John wrote that had a) more than three chords or b) a bridge. New songs for the group only happened when John figured he'd written something that Franklin might find clever or amusing.

Recorded with Brian Paulson (Slint, Beck, US Maple) at the Rubber Room in Carrboro, North Carolina, and with Mitch Rackin (Excepter, Heavy Hands) at Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn, NY, Undercard is the first Extra Lens record to arrive as a full collaboration between songwriters. The recording method, however, persists: John plays guitar and sings, leaving Franklin to provide arrangements as the songs require: here sparing, here ornate; sometimes gentle, sometimes not. The Extra Lens now invite you to sit down, put your feet up, and enjoy the Undercard.

Dumb Numbers Is A Brand-Spankin' New Band Featuring A Pretty Unbelievable Cast...

With his debut album, Australian songwriter Adam Harding has teamed up with Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr., Folk Implosion), Dale Crover
(Melvins), Murph (Dinosaur Jr.), Bobb Bruno (Best Coast), CR Matheny (Emperor X) and others to create an impressive breadth of material.

Dumb Numbers walks a line between the aggressive and the emotional. In just 36 minutes the album manages to move from feedback-drenched pop(Last Night I Had A Dream) to Melvins-leaning rock (Lost Inside),
to monastery doom metal (Without), to sentimental piano pieces (The Broken Promises), to balls-out guitar shredding (Redrum). Such a wide range of sounds contained on one album would usually result in an artistic train-wreck, but expert musicianship and an undenable cohesion tie these songs together. The result is an unpredictable and masterful debut album.

180 Gram Vinyl In A Wide Spine Gatefold Package

    Four-Panel Printed Fold-Out Poster

I am proud to announce that my new solo album Fever Dream - the follow-up to Hendra - will be released globally on my label Unmade Road through Caroline International.

Fever Dream was self-produced at London's famous RAK Studio 2, and mastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig in Maine. We kept Hendra's sonic template of open-tuned folk-jazz and distorted string-bent rock, and went for a new grainy intensity. Bernard Butler joins me again. Bruno Ellingham engineered and mixed. We just did most of it live. Small room, small band. A harder edge. Instruments spilling into each other. Martin Ditcham on drums. New recruit Rex Horan on double bass. And I've sprinkled guest vocal cameos from Boston's dream-folk singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler and Hiss Golden Messenger's M.C. Taylor.

    Have fun.

    LP4

Ratatat's new album LP4 is the next step forward on the work that Evan Mast and Mike Stroud began on LP3. It was conceived during the creative streak that began during the LP3 sessions at Old Soul studios, in rural Upstate New York. The period in between albums also saw Ratatat branch out into production with two tracks featured on Kid Cudi's debut album, including the single Pursuit of Happiness.

The band describe LP4 as a weirder album than LP3, with a much braver approach to the arrangements. There are more instruments featured on the record than ever before, and for the first time a full string section. The album also features a number of spoken word interludes, one taken from Werner Herzog's film Stroszeck in which the lead character Bruno S describes the keyboards he owns. The other samples are all courtesy of Linda Manz, the first taken from Terence Mallick's period drama Days Of Heaven. While trying to clear the sample, Evan unexpectedly ended up on the phone with Linda herself. The call resulted in a trip to Linda's house, where he recorded an interview with her, excerpts from which make up the remaining vocal samples.

    Mirror Conspiracy

This highly anticipated follow up to Sounds From the Thievery Hi-fi left both critics and audiophiles delighted with Thievery Corporation's expert treatment
of bossa nova, dub, and downtempo. Featuring lush vocals by Bebel Gilberto, Pam Bricker, Lou Lou, and See-I, The Mirror Conspiracy is a fantastic
    statement from ESL Music.

" their remix work since then has since established them as leaders of the pack. And true to its name, the Corporation surreptitiously lays down
overdubs of keyboards, congas, and percussive instruments to piece together a darkly beautiful piece of music in The Mirror Conspiracy." - Wall of Sound

"The only thing snappier than Rob Garza and Eric Hilton's Armani suits and Bruno Magli shoes is the suave, downbeat dance tracks the Washington D.C.
duo creates as Thievery Corporation. The pair's top-shelf aural cocktails, which involve a smooth mixture of dub reggae, trip-hop, acid jazz and Middle
Eastern musics, have been fueling the fires of backroom lounges and dimly lit bedrooms since the pair's first singles emerged in 1996. The Mirror
Conspiracy, TC's long-awaited sophomore album, raises the temperature of the mix by melding the synthetic serenity of lush keyboards with the warm
hues of live strings, brass, percussion and the pipes of a host of vocalists " - CMJ

    Broken Into Better Shape

Broken Into Better Shape finds Good Old War pushing their musical boundaries to the limit. Road-weary from two years at sea, the trio (Keith Goodwin, Tim Arnold, Dan Schwartz) set out to write an album full of songs that were not limited to sounding perfect in a live experience. They bunkered down in Goodwin's toddler-toy-filled house and struggled for half a year to find what they were looking for. Around this time, drummer Tim Arnold left the band for Atlanta, where his fiancÉ was pregnant with their first child. Arnold's DNA remains in the band and his fingerprints are still present as a writer on some of the tracks on the record.

With half of the album's songs now written, Goodwin and Schwartz began experimenting with other writers and producers. In New York City, they dreamed up the ultra-inspirational "Fly Away" with writer Emile Haynie (fun., Bruno Mars). A trip to Los Angeles found them improbably paired in a writing session with Zimbabwe-born urban producer T-Collar, where a hook was crafted that the band were eager to take to the studio. It would become their first single, "Tell Me What You Want From Me."

Broken Into Better Shape became the record that it is in Nashville, where the band wrote and rounded out songs with producer Jason Lehning (Alison Krause & Union Station, Mat Kearney, Dolly Parton) and with the aid of a terrific group of musicians and writers. Whereas much of the band's earlier work had been written individually, this album would end up being a grand collaboration.

The result is the band's proudest moment, an album of lush, well-crafted songs with no filler, ten songs whittled down from a pool of over forty.

    SOULROCKER

MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD today announced their upcoming (and ninth) studio album SOULROCKER will be releasedvia Fantasy Records, their first album for the label. SOULROCKER features the new song "Crazy For You" a joyously upbeat rhythmic pop song that highlights Franti's soulful vocals and encompasses his socially conscious outlook.

In creating SOULROCKER-co-produced with Jamaican producers Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor (son of reggae luminary Freddie McGregor) and Dwayne "Supa Dups" Chin Quee (known for his work with artists like Bruno Mars and John Legend)-MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD have introduced a new sensibility to their potent hybrid of hip-hop, rock, folk, and reggae: a gracefully arranged take on electronic music that more than fulfills the band's mission of making impassioned music you can dance to. Along with harnessing the Bay Area-based band's dynamic energy for a more powerful impact than ever before, SOULROCKER again shows Franti's singular ability to channel frustration into music that's both thought-provoking and triumphantly hopeful.

"Right now is a very challenging time for people, for our nation and the planet," says Franti, a longtime activist and past recipient of Global Exchange's Domestic Human Rights Award. "But I really believe that music can help fight war and violence and hatred. The world needs that more than ever now, so my intention with this album was to make music that could bring people together."

While each selection on SOULROCKER began with Franti working out melodies on his acoustic guitar, many of the album's songs ultimately evolved into beat-powered tracks that reveal a close and nuanced understanding of the electronic genre. "One of the first records I had as a kid was a Kraftwerk seven-inch that I got from the giveaway bin at the UC Davis radio station KDVS," recalls Franti, who grew up in Davis, CA. "We always do a DJ set at the end of our shows, and I wanted to try bringing in those dance and electronic elements but still keep the organic instrumentation that I've always loved."

Franti's message of positivity-minded political consciousness, once an outlier in music, has found momentum in the mainstream in recent years-a phenomenon that compelled him to push his artistry even further on SOULROCKER. "I feel a deeper sense of purpose in music today than I ever have in my career," he says. "The album's really about me challenging myself and growing, and just trying to make the most inspiring music I possibly can for this intense, crazy and wonderful time we're all living in."

    Uptown Special

Uptown Special, the fourth album by producer-songwriter-musician Mark Ronson, is a tale of several cities, a wide range of collaborators, and a road trip deep into the American South. However the story of Ronson's latest project really starts back when he was New York's hottest DJ.

In the late 1990s into the early 2000s the New York club scene was percolating with booming hip-hop and glitzy R&B. In those days before he emerged as a multi-talented musical force Ronson manned the turntables of many great parties. "It was a fun time to be playing music," he says. "At clubs like Cheetah you didn't have to play a hip hop record until 1a.m. You could play early '80s classics by Chaka Khan, Boz Scaggs and Michael Jackson and rock the crowd. I'd play Steely Dan's 'Black Cow' at 11:30 and it world work. Then, at 1am you'd play 'Hypnotize' by Biggie and the crowd would go wild. I come back to those memories."

This mix of vintage R&B and pop with contemporary hip-hop is what made Ronson a star DJ. "I never get tired of hearing records like Earth, Wind & Fire's 'Can't Hide Love' next to 'Rock the Boat' by Aaliyah," says Ronson. "I wanted this record to feel like hearing that kind of musical mix on great New York club night."

Uptown Special has all of the flavor of a night with Mark rocking the ones and twos with funk, soul, and psychedelic pop in a style that echoes classic productions by Quincy Jones and Steely Dan, and funneled through its creators sophisticated understanding of arrangement and melody. Of his three previous albums Mark feels like Uptown Special is closest in spirit to his 2003 debut, Here Comes the Fuzz, which came directly out his DJ experience. "The difference," Mark says "is I was reaching for things musically I wasn't quite ready to execute. With all the experience I've gained over the years I had the maturity and knowledge to really pull this together."

The first single, "Uptown Funk," features GRAMMY® award-winning superstar Bruno Mars on vocals and drums, who sings with passion and plays drums with fire that will bring funk back on the radio. Joining Mars on the track is Mark on guitar, Mars' bassist Jamareo Artis and Jeff Brasker on keys. Mark produced Mars' massive hit single, "Locked Out of Heaven," where they developed a close musical kinship. "As a live performer no one out here now puts on a show like Bruno," says Mark. "This record has that same intensity. When you hear him sing you are always aware of how much he puts into a performance." Mark was so taken with the single's power that it inspired the album's title.

Though Ronson is now based out of London, most of Uptown Special was recorded in the United States with stops in Los Angeles, Memphis and Mississippi. Most of the music was recorded with live musicians with Mark anchoring the sessions on guitar, while surrounded by a complimentary mix of gifted young players and R&B vets. Several musicians, who worked with Mark on his historic production of Amy Winehouse's multi-platinum Back To Black and his own breakthrough album, 2007's Version, rejoined him for this album, including drummer Homer Steinweiss, bassist Nick Movshan and guitarist Tommy Brenneck. Also making guest appearances on 'Uptown Special' are bassist Willie Weeks (who played on Stevie Wonder's classic Innervisions) guitarist Carlos Alomar (who created the familiar guitar riff on David Bowie's "Fame") and drummer Steve Jordan (member of the John Mayer Trio).

Mark Ronson's Uptown Special is a unique blend. It's an album with a serious literary pedigree matched to down home greasy funk. It features a progressive pop vocalist from Australia and one reared in Mississippi, the spiritual root of American music. Hot young contemporary players dominate while some tracks are spiced with legendary musicians. It's a mix that reflects the musical taste and life experience of its creator.
